Starting point is 00:00:01 This is a headgum podcast. Checking Allstate First could save you hundreds on car insurance. That's smart. Not checking the layout of each hole when you're playing minigolf. That'll cost you. You confidently putted your ball through the clown's mouth and it went straight into the water hazard. Ouch. Yeah, check in first is smart.
Starting point is 00:00:23 So check Allstate first for a quote that could save you hundreds. You're in good hands with Allstate. Potential savings vary, subject to terms, conditions, and availability. Allstate North American Insurance Company and Affiliates, Northbrook, Illinois. In partnership with Airbnb, let's talk a little bit about travel. Tig, as you know, I'm about to go on my first big tour around the United States. And while I'm traveling in a bus, I want to make sure I get a couple nights in a nice, comfy bed that's not on wheels. So I'm going to book a couple nights' day on Airbnb.
Starting point is 00:00:53 That sounds like a plan, May. What area are you looking? Well, I'm going to be in Florida, which I'm very excited about. and I'd love to find somewhere with a hot tub or a sauna that I can relax in, maybe some nice nature nearby, like a big park or something. I love finding a home on Airbnb because I know I can get the place all to myself and I can read tons of reviews and make sure it's a great place. Airbnb also has guest favorites badges that show me the highest rated and most loved homes.
Starting point is 00:01:21 I'm just never gone wrong booking one of those. You know I swam with sharks in Florida? Is that something you would ever try? I hadn't thought about that, but if I'm near the ocean, then who knows? Maybe I will. On the other hand, if I find a really nice place on Airbnb, I may just never want to leave. Handsome Pot. Chatting the friends on a handsome pod. Cheers. Hey, it's your friend Tignotaro sitting here with my co-hosts. May Martin. I'm Fortune Famer.
Starting point is 00:01:57 on the handsome pod. You know it, you love it. You know it. I love it. You do. And maybe you don't know it and you don't know if you love it yet, but welcome because you're about to know it and you're about to love it. That's right. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:18 So welcome. So welcome. A bienvenu. Don't you think that when people, when babies are born, there should be like a song that we all sing to them like all the doctors go welcome you're here like this happy birthday not count well when you said like yeah do you sing that to a mother's crotch to a mother's crotch as a baby's being born happy birthday cheers i've seen there should be like a welcome song instead of it you know all the bright lights and the well let's hear it two three and four you
Starting point is 00:02:57 You just arrive and you're going to learn. Sometimes it's good. And sometimes it's hard. It's hard. But now you are here. And we are also queer. Queer. Something that's just like a, you know, a nice way in.
Starting point is 00:03:17 Yeah. Yeah. And memorable. Yeah. You know. Like that one. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:23 Like on your first day on planet Earth. it's you're going to always remember yeah yeah you should have the whole um we are the world crew singing to you yeah as you arrive planet earth yeah Bob Dylan just furious to be there mumbling how are you guys good i just wrapped star trek oh my god congrats oh you did yeah all right Did you have a rap party? They're having a rap party. I flew home because I have a few days off before I go back on tour. And I'm catching up on, you know, sporting events that my kids are doing and all sorts of fun things.
Starting point is 00:04:16 Stephanie and I are going for a very belated Valentine's Day dinner. Oh, my. Tonight? Tonight we're going on. Ooh, sexy. Yeah. Do you think you might have a few sips of her wine? Isn't that?
Starting point is 00:04:33 Don't you always, she orders wine and then you're like, I'm good. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, and then I just take a couple of sips. Yeah. But, no, neither of us have been sipping hooch, and it's been a... Sip and hooch. I'm going to take... I'm not going to drink while I'm on tour, I think.
Starting point is 00:04:53 Oh, really? I don't really, I don't drink a lot anyway, but... How was your party last night? Well, I am hung over today. Yeah. I am in, I've got a turmeric latte, a black Americanae, a ginger tea all going at once. Whoa. Do you go hard last night? You know, not really. I just, I was hosting. Hard enough. And I started at 4 p.m. I invited everyone over, which was a mist. I thought, great, then it'll be done by nine, but of course, people stay.
Starting point is 00:05:27 Well, we talked about that in one episode having it in time. Yeah, I should have put an end in time. I should have put it in time. What time did it end? One or something. Okay. That's a long hang. It's a long hang.
Starting point is 00:05:41 And when you get hung over, what are your symptoms? I feel like I'm in a kind of swampy soup. And it depends. If I'm really hungover, then I wake up and I think, oh, my God, why didn't I realize the world's ending and everyone hates me? But right now, I feel okay. That's your hangover? I get anxiety. Do you get anxiety?
Starting point is 00:06:07 Hanxiety? Yeah, anxiety. I've never heard of that. It's just the effects of alcohol. You wake up and think, what did I say? Oh, was that weird? You know? So you don't have a memory of what happened last night?
Starting point is 00:06:20 No, I don't have anxiety today. Oh. Yeah, I feel like it's manageable. I just feel like I'm, I feel like I'm getting older, you know. Yeah, you can't throw down like you used to. No, like I could go back to bed. Did you have any bed visitors? You know what?
Starting point is 00:06:39 I did not, actually. And there was a moment where it could have gone either way for the night. Tell us, girl. For many of us, girls, let me tell you, I thought to myself, it's either. going to become a games night with the remaining people. Right, right. Or it's going to veer into sexy territory. Bad visitor territory.
Starting point is 00:07:01 Oh, wow. How do you, and what, what do you think sets it in one direction or the other? Good question, Fortune. Thank you. Yeah, yeah. I think it's a choice. A vibe? No, I was like I want to play games.
Starting point is 00:07:16 Oh, you get to make the decision. It's either, we're either having. game night or yay night, which is on? So you got all of these broads pawn at you? No, not at all. And you're like, you know what? Let's take out the monopoly board. No, it's more like my buddies are around mixed in with everyone.
Starting point is 00:07:41 And if it was going to become a sexy evening, then I don't really want my close old pals hanging around. And then last night I thought, really, I want to be playing mafia with everyone. Do you ever play Parchisi? Never. What's that? I don't know. It just came to my head. Parchisi.
Starting point is 00:07:59 I don't heard of it, but I don't know how it goes either. I was on a flight. That's why I couldn't go to your party. I was on a, I was flying into Los Angeles after rap and Star Trek, you know? From Toronto. Uh-huh. And well,
Starting point is 00:08:12 that's where we filmed me. Yeah. You know this. What a useless comment to throw in. I started from Beijing. We've filmed the last few days of Star Trek in Beijing. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:25 So you were already, you had tied a few on by the time I was landing. Tied a few on is drinking. Yeah. Yeah, I had tied a few on. And I was playing a lot of foosball. But I'd say I threw out my neck playing foosball, which is so embarrassing.
Starting point is 00:08:42 What a night. Meanwhile, I was just having my little tofu meal as I'm like pulling into Los Angeles. Do you think pulling your neck also? contributed to doing game night versus gay night? I think it's, it made me feel very fragile. I actually threw it out a couple days ago playing foosball.
Starting point is 00:09:01 Yeah, and an orgy would not help. Yeah. The doctor is not going to prescribe that. Yeah. You know what? I couldn't go to your party because I went to the L.A.FC soccer, um,
Starting point is 00:09:17 opening match. Is that the woman's one? With my buddy Will Farrell. Oh my God. Tell me. How was it? It was their season opener. So they did it at USC.
Starting point is 00:09:28 It was like 75,000 people were there. Oh, my God. And it was great. Is that a larger number than it normally is? Normally it's at their regular stadium, which is, I think, more like 25,000. Uh-huh. Oh, okay. So this was like a big, like, thing to kick it off the season.
Starting point is 00:09:48 That's so fun. And I remember when we were on set and we were playing. robbers with these like stalkings over our faces squishing our faces and you were saying to will kind of jokingly like why why don't you ever let me sit with you at soccer games and invite me to these games and he was like I'll let you but you have to wear that stocking on your face through the whole thing did you so did you um no he has actually invited me to quite a few games now and that was the first one I was able to go with him too um he's invited me to lakers and Kings and I love
Starting point is 00:10:24 sporting events so I told him you know please keep asking me because I love it and he's a huge sports person so yeah I was glad we got to do that to finally get to do that that's really fun yeah but I
Starting point is 00:10:40 yeah otherwise I would have been at your party and who knows if it could have gone the other direction if you'd been there with you and me no no I would have fortune I told you I can't do that. This is a lights off body.
Starting point is 00:10:57 This is not a orgy body. Whether it's lights off or on, you'd be willing to hook up with the little cowboy? No, I can't hook up with a little cowboy. We're like family. We'd be like bros fist bumping in the middle of it. We'd be like checking in with each other. You having fun, bud? Yep, great.
Starting point is 00:11:15 I could never do any of that. I'm too square. Did you say bud or bub? Like, um, oh, like, hey bub. Hey, bub, hey bub, hey bub. No, it was a very nerdy, fun party. It was like games. I love that.
Starting point is 00:11:29 Yeah, it was really good. I'm going away on. I'm not going to see everyone for so long. So, uh, yeah, I'm getting anxious about it, about the tour. And I'm on my way. All my bags are packed. I always think about you. Singing in the breezeway at college.
Starting point is 00:11:47 Yeah. So kiss me and smile. me tell me that you wait for me hold me like you'll never let me go i mean because i'm leaving i'm leaving on a jet plane don't know when i'll be back again i mean who wouldn't want to hear that in a breeze way you know what i would do with you at a party fortune if you were up for it but i did last night and it was my favorite part of the party was Lisa Gilroy always I become like a 12 year old and we're like 12 year old siblings kind of that's the vibe and halfway through the party we were talking about Hansen and she was like oh my god can we go into your office and close the door and you play Hansen mbop and we harmonize in our
Starting point is 00:12:39 best voices and we weren't even laughing we went into my office and we sang Hanson with like beautiful harmonies and it was like we had to get at the party yeah and it was just a a moment of like, mbap, da, but we weren't even laughing. We were like, thanks for that.
Starting point is 00:12:57 Are you going to release it on Spotify? Oh, I'd love to. Guys, do you know what I just realized is today is St. Patis Day? Oh,
Starting point is 00:13:07 my God. You know, I almost had Patsy's Day. Yes, too, St. Pashis today. And also, I'm also,
Starting point is 00:13:15 I'm just remembering because today is Tuesday, two days ago, was the Oscars. Oh my God. Oh my God. So people are going to be tuning here. Well, we are taping this right before, so we don't know yet.
Starting point is 00:13:29 That's what I'm bringing up. As of this recording, we don't know yet what's happened. That's what's such a funny vibe is like, I just left the Oscars. Yeah. My future is so. And I don't know if I have won or lost. The reason I remembered is because I just saw my Oscar certificate. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:50 Oh, so you got a certificate. Yeah. Oh, you got a frame it. Because you went to like the lunch, you get that at the luncheon. Yeah. How do you know all this? I was a journalist, Malo. Oh, right.
Starting point is 00:14:00 Wow. Look at that. You know that Harvard scientists are saying that the past, the present, and the future are happening at the same time and that things that you do in the present can affect both your past and the future. So that means that if we now act like you won, it could have. affect the future. Oh my God.
Starting point is 00:14:21 We won. We won. You did. We won. You won too, May. Oh, yeah. We won. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:28 I can't believe we won because we were up against the perfect neighbor, which is one of the biggest documentaries with the most streaming views of all time. Oh, really? Yes. That's our competition. The perfect neighbor became. one of the biggest documentaries of all time. I do have a question about the producer stuff.
Starting point is 00:14:54 There was four names on there, right? Mm-hmm. And how is it decided what four names? Because there was a list of producers longer than that in the movie, no? No, there's a list of executive producers. And it's interesting because in TV, film, and documentary, there's different titles and that mean, different things. And the reason these four names are the producers,
Starting point is 00:15:24 Ryan White directed the movie. Yeah. He's also a producer. Got it. His producing partner, Jess Hargrave, she is the lead producer on all of his projects. Yes. And Steph Willen, who is the old friend of mine and Andreas, it was her original idea. She brought it up to me on call. Okay. And I brought the project to Jess and Ryan. Got it. So that makes us the four core producers. And they also have to be very, very scaled down. Like you have to prove to the academy why each producer is necessary. And so they just want to make sure that it is bare bones. These are the producers. You can't have like 10 people on stage and just throw titles at them. So everybody gets a producer credit. You have to like submit why you were crucial and key to the development of this.
Starting point is 00:16:32 So you like, you write like a thing saying this is what I did. Yeah. You have to cite so much. And a lot of times they reject it and they need more information. That's so insane. Yeah. I get it. though. Oh, for sure. But like as far as executive producer, those are the people that kicked down cash and, you know, did other things that were very crucial to the project, but they couldn't be listed as an actual producer. Jess Hargrave, I just want to say, I had a roommate called Jess, and we lived on Hargrave. Oh, my gosh. That's why we won the Oscar. Oh, my gosh. I cannot believe. I believe. I think the Grammys best podcast. Oh, really? No, the Golden Globes. Yeah, which is wild and but do you think the Oscars ever would? No. But I think the Grammys
Starting point is 00:20:30 should. The Grammys. It's like they do audio books. Yeah, I can see the Grammys for sure. Yeah. Yeah. That feels like a very odd decision that they haven't come around to considering how massive podcasting is because of our podcast. Well, podcasting is now getting way more numbers than like all of these like late night shows and morning shows. So the medium has changed significantly. Oh yeah, you did Kimmel.
Starting point is 00:21:01 How was that? My Jimmy Kimmel hat. Yeah, I did Kimmel. It was so fun. And I felt like I felt like a big deal to me. I was really pumped. Yeah. It is.
Starting point is 00:21:11 It is cool. Like I guess I've done Colbert, but it was. He was so nice. He was really warm and yeah, I had a really fun time. And the producers asked me if I, I don't know, I must have said in the pre-interview that I'm practicing telepathy, like mind-reading cards, but I don't know how to do it. Like I never get it right. Oh, yeah. I watched that clip. That was funny. Oh, you did? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I think they thought that it was going to be like a magic trick that I could do. But it was so great that it led to nothing. Nothing, nothing. Like, I was jealous, actually.
Starting point is 00:21:47 When I saw you do that, I was like, oh, TIG loves things they had lead to nothing. Yeah, yeah. I was truly like, God, that'd be so fun to do. Yeah, you know what? I guess it was the first time I've been like relaxed enough to kind of do a bit, like, or at least like try to be funny and not just be like, yes, thank you. And thank you for having me. Yes, I did.
Starting point is 00:22:11 No, I thought, yeah, I thought it was really funny. Yeah, well done, kid. Thanks. Yeah, well done you. But I always fuck up my outfit. Like right before I was going on, I thought I'm going to tuck this t-shirt right into these pants. Oh, God. Did you?
Starting point is 00:22:25 You tucked it? The whole t-shirt and it was like riding up and kind of bunched up. It's just like, why do I always, in the last second, I think, you know what? I know better than all these stylists and makeup people. I'm going to throw on some lip taint and tuck in my shirt. I always do that with my hair. I'll like a moment before I go on. I do like a quick thing and I'm like,
Starting point is 00:22:46 oh no. I just lost control of my hair. Oh no. Yeah. Well, those seats are always weird and they're turned weird. So it's always like an awkward clothes situation when you're on late night. I don't know why. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:00 Yeah. And your ankles show and yeah. Specifically fortunes ankles. Yeah. That's one of the issues of late night. I always have a button up and a blazer usually. So then the button up always. widens.
Starting point is 00:23:13 You know, when you sit down at widens and I'm always like, Goddain. God dang. And then you just see a little belly. There's a little peek of the belly. That's what we're tuning in for. You know who has a little belly right now? Who? Little fluff doodle do.
Starting point is 00:23:32 Has a belly? Yeah, a little pot belly. Her steroids are creating a little pot belly. It's one of those like cute and sad things where you're like, oh, that's because... That's from medication, but we love it. She's doing okay? She's doing great. She's really responding to the steroids and then she'll start chemo soon, which is also cute and sad. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:00 But anyway. There's nothing like a little fuzzy belly. Just a little pot belly. How dare she show up with that thing? And how's Ginger? She's good. Yeah. Yeah, I were a phone call today, but she, yeah, she's doing, she has more energy now that she's like not on chemo at the moment.
Starting point is 00:24:24 She's just on the immunotherapy. So she's got a bit more pep in her step. Nice. That's good. I'm glad to hear it. Yeah. Fortune. What have you been up to?
Starting point is 00:24:36 What are you doing? What's going on? I'm just working. Uh-huh. filming this movie, we have just three weeks left. Wait, that was fast. As of this
Starting point is 00:24:49 filming right now, we have three, like, three weeks left. When everyone hears this podcast, I will be wrapping it up, yes. Yeah. But yeah, it went by super fast. And you're having a good time. I'm having a great time. It's been such a whirlwind. The
Starting point is 00:25:04 days are long, and we, I've never been in a movie where I'm in every scene. So it is like, it's almost hard to like sit and take it all in because you're just like constantly prepping a scene or in a scene. But the four girls doing it were all just like very in it and we have, we're having a good time. And great. Yeah. And then I will say, Eva Longoria is our director. And she is impressive. I didn't know she was directing. Yeah. That's so cool. A lot of people don't know,
Starting point is 00:25:42 she's been directing TV and stuff for like 20 years. I've heard she is so prepared. She's so prepared. She's incredible. I would die to work with her on any project she's directing because, you know, so much of acting is just sitting around and waiting. She is so prepared.
Starting point is 00:26:02 We are rarely sitting more than 20 minutes. 15, 20 minutes. She is so on it. Yeah. She comes so. so, so prepared. We are never sitting wondering what's happening next.
Starting point is 00:26:15 Yeah. And she's just got a real eye for things. Say this, don't do that. She comes and fixes clothes, hair. Like, she's very hands-on. I don't like that. Like, she knows exactly what she wants, what she wants it to look like.
Starting point is 00:26:27 That's awesome. I don't like that color. Let's move this. Yeah, she's, I've been super impressed by her skills. That's great. That's kind of like Stephanie. Like, she's so,
Starting point is 00:26:37 she has got a thought, opinion and vision for every moment of everything. Yeah. And I'm like, wow. Do you think she'll try to direct more? Well, yeah, we have projects in different stages of development. And yeah, but there's also ones where she's like, you know what? I could hand that off to someone or, you know.
Starting point is 00:27:03 Right. But yeah, she's really good. She's, she's, and just confident. just has that vision and talent. Yeah. Is there going to be a blooper reel? All I want is I miss like after the credits the bloopers playing. I know. I love a blooper reel.
Starting point is 00:27:20 I like seeing people laugh and giggle and mess up. Yeah. When it's real. Right. When it's real. There's nothing worse than a fake blooper. Well, when people are like trying to get into a blooper reel or like. yeah that's for the bloopers
Starting point is 00:27:41 that's one for the bloopers yeah yeah it's like ugly yeah I don't know I don't know if they will do that or not but it would definitely be fun it's a big crazy like this movie's crazy really I can't wait lots of shenanigans it's definitely rated R really yeah
Starting point is 00:28:02 I can't wait I can't wait when does it come out I don't know I don't know Movies take a bit longer. Yeah. Than the old TV stuff. But they don't have like a, oh, and we're, you know, hoping for it to go here. Is it for streaming? Yeah, it's a Netflix movie.
Starting point is 00:28:18 Oh, okay. Yeah. Got it. So I would imagine sometime next year, if I could guess. I'm pumped. All I've been watching is the America's Next Top Model documentary. Oh, I watched that too, the documentary. It's wild.
Starting point is 00:28:32 Yeah, it's crazy. I just can't believe that, like, we weren't at the, time like, I mean, I know people were like, this is, this is pretty crazy, but at the times were so different that we were like, yeah, that's cool that they're, I mean, and it was insane the challenges they were doing. Yeah. Yeah. Did you ever watch that show, TIG?
Starting point is 00:28:52 I know you love, love modeling. I know you love a catwalk. Yeah. I have never seen it. But I did have an idea years ago because Sarah Silverman used to watch it, I think, is where I would hear bits and pieces about it. And I was like, oh, my gosh, I would love to do like a funnier-or-die series where I'm in. And I'm like walking the boardwalk or catwalk with board shorts on and like a tank top.
Starting point is 00:29:32 Yeah. And like, is that where they judge you? Yeah. Oh, okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So, but also I was going to say when your movie comes out, girl, we got to have a watch party. We have to like, oh, that would be fine. And like one of that, when people, like an online watch party.
Starting point is 00:29:49 Yeah. You know, so, you know, because it. All the handsome. Oh, that would be cool. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Have everybody watch it and be like, girl, because it feels very primed for like, girl watch party. I know. I have been trying to get in period jokes.
Starting point is 00:30:05 Uh-huh. galore. You've been trying of shoehorn in. They're like fortunate enough of wedging in the period jokes.
Starting point is 00:30:17 We'll see. We'll see what makes it in. Yeah, we want to watch it with you so we get the commentary throughout of like, oh, on this day,
Starting point is 00:30:25 this happened. Yeah. Well, I just like, I mean, who knows how, you know, so much has to come together
Starting point is 00:30:31 and the editing and everything for the, for the final thing. But, you know, what we are shooting is just very wild and crazy. I like seeing female comedians do the things that the guys get to do.
Starting point is 00:30:45 Yeah. You know? Yeah. So that's what I enjoy about this. So we'll see. What if they cut you out? The movie I don't think could exist if I was cut out. I'm a pretty pivotal part of the movie.
Starting point is 00:31:00 Yeah. It feels like probably you all need to be in it. All four of us the movie could not exist. Have you been cut out of anything? I have. Oh, yeah, for sure. Yeah. Cut out of a couple things.
Starting point is 00:31:15 Yeah. And I've been cut down pretty significantly to the point where I could have been an extra. And I'm like, why did you leave me in at all? I think I would almost rather be cut out completely. Yeah, yeah. Then, like, show up in a scene and never appear again. And it was like, what were you doing there? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:31:35 Yeah. Yeah, it's, sometimes there's just like too much going on to service your character. Or sometimes you do a terrible job. I got to put out of that movie, the happiest season movie. Remember that one? The lesbian Christmas movie? You got cut out? I got cut out of that one. And I filmed a scene with Kristen and the other actress, I can't, the other main actresses. I can't remember the name. And my character was insane.
Starting point is 00:32:09 I rent them a car and for them to drive home. And they ended up cutting it because they were like, we just need to get to them going home. Yeah. And I totally understood. But I was being like my, I was a crazy like rental car salesperson. Sure.
Starting point is 00:32:26 Who was, I kept making Kristen Stewart break the whole time. Oh, that's so fun. And then I watched the movie and I saw that the next scene was, them in the car together, but basically just explaining the plot to each other. Yeah. And I'm like, well, I could have done that in the rental car scene. Right. Right. Right. And it'd been goofier. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:32:49 That's so funny. I was cut out of a Kristen Stewart movie. No way. Yes. Yes. I was. In the runaways, I played Joan Jets. Oh, yes. Yeah. Yeah. And I'm wearing a, I'm wearing heels of like. a long skirt. Oh my God. And a wig. Oh my gosh. I should put the,
Starting point is 00:33:11 I have a picture of me, Kristen and Joan Jett. And I should, and I'm in a dress. You need to send us that girl. And it's when I had boobs. Like I'm like full on top secret. Wow.
Starting point is 00:33:23 Just big old tid, big old tis. Tiggies. Wow. But yeah, my man, Kristen's ruthless. She's like,
Starting point is 00:33:31 out you go. Get out of my movies. I think, I think she, would have wanted to keep it in. She was laughing a lot. She was fun. Yeah. I need to get cast in something of her first so she can come out. You've got to get cut out of one of her movies. You're no one until you've been cut out of a Kristen Stewart. Put it on the list, Thomas. Yeah. You're not handsome until you've been cut out of a Kristen Stewart movie. What a funny connection there.
Starting point is 00:33:55 We got to get, we got to get a question from her. I know. Ask you why we got cut out of our movies. Yeah, we send her a question. Starting point is 00:37:41 No way. I did not realize that. Yeah, when she was obviously a wee one. A wee, but a wee child. Yes, a wee child. A wee child here. Script supervisor is such a crucial. role. Oh my gosh. You have to be so focused and you're just sitting there. I could never.
Starting point is 00:38:01 Oh, no way. Yeah. And there was this woman Susie who was a script supervisor on. Oh, Susie. How is she? She's thriving. And we were like, I walked by and she was having a conversation with someone about dreams. Like, do you remember your dreams? And this was so out of keeping with her what I knew of Susie, which was like just just very focused, quite sweet. And she goes, well, you know, most nights. I dream about horrific violence and where I'm breaking people's bones. I'm pounding people into the dirt. I was like, whoa, Suzy.
Starting point is 00:38:37 Anyway, just made me think of it. That doesn't fit the name Susie, I'll be honest. That was my mother's name. Really? Yes. Well, her name was Mattiel, just like mine was, but my mother went by Susie, just like I go by TIG.
Starting point is 00:38:50 Anyway, makes no sense. Should we get to our question? Let's do it. Today's question asker is an actor, an activist who starred in shows like One Tree Hill and Chicago PD. She's also known for her advocacy of environmental causes and women's rights, including as a founding member of the Times Up movement. She hosts the podcast, Work and Progress. Sophia Bush is asking today's question.
Starting point is 00:39:16 Eyes. Not our eyes. Well, hello, you handsome three. Sophia Bush here. I am very curious. If you could stop time for a day or, I don't know, a weekend, the whole world would just pause. And you could continue, have a real break. What would you do? Would you go somewhere? Would you sleep? Like, what would you? You would you? You do, let's say with a spare weekend. I know what I'm doing. We know that May is stopping time.
Starting point is 00:40:02 I'm in the three of us. Stop the world. I want to hang with my girls. I want to take you guys to Disney. To Disney? I don't remember who asked that. That was early on we had something about spending time together and they chose us. Yeah, it was if you could freeze time
Starting point is 00:40:24 and we awkwardly stopped talking. That's what a superpower would be. It made someone to freeze time so we can hang out together. You guys were like, right. And it was like crickets. We were just like, really? That's the superbrient. Stop time and hang out with my podcast, huss.
Starting point is 00:40:44 Well, it's, it's. I talk to you guys more than a lot of my other people in my life. True, true. You know, we talk for hours on the pod, but I would like to have, we gigs. I want to have some new experiences with you guys. Like I want to see you in a different context, like on Space Mountain. Like on Space Mountain or Joshua Tree. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:06 It's not mutual. That's not true. If we get freeze time for, she said a weekend? Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Oh, it's so boring to say sleeping, but I do fantasize about that feeling that you have when you're a teenager and for whatever reason your parents are leaving you alone and you get to just knock it out of bed and just keep going for like 13 hours.
Starting point is 00:41:37 Yeah. I mean, it sounds amazing to sleep, but I don't think I'd want to do that with my time. Did I tell you, I got rid of my CPAP machine? Yeah. No. I don't, maybe, but I don't remember. Yeah. You block out everything I say, fortune.
Starting point is 00:41:53 Yeah, I got rid of that. So sorry, no more videos. I forgot why, though, it wasn't, you didn't feel like it was doing anything? I felt like I was struggling it, struggling with it more than actually sleeping. Yeah. And so I've just been. But it's so sexy. I know.
Starting point is 00:42:16 It's really sexy. but I don't know. I've actually, I've been feeling good about my sleep. There's still a little bit more of a bridge to connect there, but I've been very, very good with it. And I'm happy with my progress. So I think that creates less anxiety than putting that contraption on my head and face. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:39 And then I also don't have Stephanie in the middle of the night tapping me and being like, I think your tube fell off of your face because then it's like, Oh, yeah. Makes a loud noise. Yeah. So you wouldn't choose sleep. No, I wouldn't choose sleep. I think that I naturally, which I'm not going to do and you can't really do in life.
Starting point is 00:43:04 But I think when I start to feel overwhelmed by the world and politics and injustice and all of that kind of stuff, I start to imagine. just living off the grid and just homesteader. Yeah. Yeah, traddike. Like just a total traddike. Like growing food. Growing food and running through the pasture with the kids with no shoes on. But I also, which is something I actually would like to do with you both, which we've talked about.
Starting point is 00:43:42 Run through the pasture with. No, no. But I'd love to have like with. With you two specifically, I want to use you as like my little experimental wellness weekend. Yes. You know. I'm so in. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:43:58 I just think that would be so fun and interesting if we forced ourselves to do that like early rising and meditation and all organic, vegan kind of food and talking about any sort of feelings. that come up in the meditation and yeah and journaling yeah journaling swimming um cooking together art all of it listening to vinyl fortunes i'm getting real right eyes glazing over yes because i i don't do it for you too i love structure yeah yeah and and what a fun pod that would follow i just think it would be It's so funny if we forced ourselves to get up to watch the sunrise and meditated and like really had an unusual weekend together like that. I know. And I'm like, would it take away from the magic if someone documented it?
Starting point is 00:44:57 Because I would like to have a visual memory of us all on the dock at 5 a.m. watching the sunrower. Well, what we could do is we could do our first trial run of wellness weekend. And then we could do one where we have somebody document our well. wellness weekend. I love structure. I love being told what to do. Like, and I can get quite bossy as well, like with my parties and I'm forcing people to play games and stuff. So the idea of someone going, this is the schedule and we're sticking to it. Oh, I love that. So you throw parties and then you just ruin them. Yeah, pretty much. Yeah. Okay. But you know what? People, a lot of people appreciate it.
Starting point is 00:45:35 There's no awkward. That's what you've told yourself. Yeah. No, like I have a telepathy table that's set up. Okay. So if you just met someone and you want an icebreaker, you go sit at telepathy table and you. Okay. Yeah. Well, that's what I would do. I'd have a wellness weekend or I'd go barefoot. It's kind of the same thing of just kind of disconnecting and not having any sort of knowledge of what's going on in the world. Yeah. My first girlfriend, actually when Bill Clinton was in office. when he won the first time the presidency. She was like, I'm not reading the news. And she did this game where she wanted to see how long she could go without finding out who won the presidency that year. Oh, that's funny.
Starting point is 00:46:27 That's really funny. Yeah. She was like, don't tell me, don't tell me. Don't tell me who won. And, yeah, I think it went on for a couple weeks. Oh, wow. Well, that was before social media. Right, right.
Starting point is 00:46:38 You know. For smartphones, yeah, you would just have to not read a news. paper and not you could talk to like a taxi driver or anything. Right. Yeah, I fantasize about that too and about, yeah, yeah, just nature. I might go on a hike after this. Yeah, what about you, Fortune? I mean, it's funny when I think about freezing time.
Starting point is 00:46:57 I think of the past, right? And I don't know if that's part of this equation, but I would, you know, if it were, since we can make it up to be anything we want. Yeah, I don't think Sophia is going to hunt us down and correct the answers. I would want to go back in time until my grandmother was alive and have a weekend and freeze time there. Because I think freezing time for me just symbolizes like getting more time with somebody you don't get to have time with. So that's why I went wellness weekend with you too. That's right.
Starting point is 00:47:32 But I think I would want it when I was in high school before my grandmother got sick to just be able to like, have a conversation with her, knowing what I know now, would be pretty cool. And just to kind of take her in a bit more in a way that was like paying attention to the details more. You know, you don't really think about when you're a teenager.
Starting point is 00:48:01 And what is the particular knowledge you have now that you think would make it all that much better? Well, I mean, I was, you know, she died when I was, right after I turned 18. So I appreciated her as much as you could for being a teenager. Yeah. I think, you know, I knew how special she was even then.
Starting point is 00:48:24 And I, like, would pick her up and take her to like, you know, we would go to this Chinese restaurant we loved. So I had a lot of quality time with her. So I don't have regrets in that way. I feel like I did as much as I could with her for being a silly teenager. But I think as an adult, you know, I can look back and think about her in a way that's like all the sacrifices she made for me. And the unconditional love part that she don't really think about at that age.
Starting point is 00:48:56 Yeah. The significance of that. And just I would have like to, like I have bits and pieces of her in my memory of like her. Like she was more of a straight lace lady, but like seeing bits of her. humor. I would like to take that in a bit more. Yeah. Seeing her talk about trees and birds and flowers and the little things like that too. Yeah. I would like to be able to go back and remember like more instead of having like pieces of
Starting point is 00:49:25 her memory, like having full conversations. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And even and to record some of it and to like listen in a different way. Yeah. I actually found a DVD that I was. was worried I had lost that I had taken a bunch of tapes back in the day and made into a DVD that were of her. No way. That I haven't watched in like probably 20 years. So I'd like to get a DVD player. Yeah, you have to.
Starting point is 00:49:55 Yeah. And then if it were to freeze time now, I guess I'm in a similar situation of like, my mom's getting older and is sick. So maybe freezing time there where we, but we've had some really good quality experience. lately, especially that cruise I took her on. Yeah. I think that was a significant memory for the both of us as of recent times. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:50:18 Where she mothered everyone on the ship. Yeah. She mothered all the gay guys. And we just spent, you know, I was going through a really hard time in my life with my marriage falling apart and to like go, to leave that situation and go to your mom for five days. Mm-hmm. The timing of that was pretty significant as well.
Starting point is 00:50:45 Yeah. Because even as an adult, you're like, oh, I still, you know, you still need your or want your mom. Mm-hmm. I feel like you guys really know each other as adults. Like you are very yourselves with each other and know each other. Yeah. It's a rare good thing.
Starting point is 00:51:03 For sure. So, yeah, I don't know. Some of that stuff. I'm scared that I would freeze. Oh, sleep, yeah. And I'm scared that I'd be like, oh, yeah, I'm going to freeze time so I can read all those books I've been planning on reading or catch up on sleep. And then I'd freeze the time and then I wouldn't be able to do it.
Starting point is 00:51:22 And I'd see that time slipping away. I'd be like, I can only freeze it for one weekend and I haven't read a single fucking book. I'm still. So you'd just panic. You'd freeze time and just be in a full panic for the whole weekend. I can't do anything. It's like a black mirror episode. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:51:36 If you froze time for one thing, it would affect another thing. Yeah. I am glad I, when I was in my early 20s, I wrote a letter to my grandma asking her about the Second World War. So weird. She was like, what? Where did this come from? But she never spoke about it. But I just was like, I knew she was in London during the Blitz.
Starting point is 00:52:00 And I knew my grandfather was in the army and stuff. So I just was like, I want to know. And then she wrote me back this handwritten letter. This is your agent, grandmother? Yeah, yeah. And so I'm glad I asked. God, you know what hasn't come up much in my life? Second World War?
Starting point is 00:52:21 Is the Blitz. Oh, the Blitz? Yeah. It just rarely comes up. Really? Because I think about it all the time. Well, I don't doubt that. But it just hasn't been a huge part of my life.
Starting point is 00:52:35 Yeah. But you know what it is. A picture of me and you may just flash through my, my electronic frame. Yeah. We were talking to Eddie Izard. Oh my God. That was the first night we met.
Starting point is 00:52:53 Stand up. That's kind of what accidentally caused this podcast was connecting with you and enjoying talking to you. And then I think I have. I would run into Fortune in Vegas. And I just kind of was like, oh, yeah, I like running into them, chatting. And it's pleasant. And anyway, that picture just ran right past me.
Starting point is 00:53:22 That's so funny. Memories like the corner of my mind. Well, should we see what Sophia has to say? Yeah, let's do it. I can I just say it? that came from. Can I say also that I love Sophia Bush and know her a little bit and wish I could hang out with her more in freeze time. But the one time that I went to her house and we were hanging out and then her partner, Ashlyn Harris, face timed her and was just like, hey, what do you up to?
Starting point is 00:53:53 And they're like the tiny glimpse I got into their relationship dynamic and their vibes. I was like, that's the goal. It was just such a sweet, flirty, funny combo. And I was like, That's so nice. That's so beautiful, yeah. Yeah. I, I, I, I did Sophia's podcast years ago. And, um, I'm embarrassed to say I didn't know how politically, I didn't know she was politically active for as long as she has been.
Starting point is 00:54:22 Yeah. You know, and I think because she's kind of thrust more into my site, um, that I, I kind of assumed like, oh, maybe because. she's now in a gay relationship, it's made her more political. But it's just fascinating to know how long she's been so political. And it's just, it's a really nice layer to getting to know her. Yeah. Amen. Amen.
Starting point is 00:55:00 Amen. Let's hear what she has a say. I'm realizing that for me, I have two different answers and they're based on place. I think if I were at home in Los Angeles, I would lay in my backyard and read a book that I've been desperate to read but haven't cracked open yet. I think if I were home in New York and I had a weekend, I think I'd want to go walk around the city and just look at all the people, you know, frozen in time. I don't know if I'd really want to go into anything, but I think I'd want to walk around.
Starting point is 00:55:44 And then, yeah, I'd probably read. I think really what this means is that I should start making my way through more of the books that I order. That's really interesting that she needs to freeze time to walk around. Well, maybe she gets recognized a bunch. Maybe it would mean she wouldn't get. Yeah. I don't want to interact with anybody. Just like to walk around.
Starting point is 00:56:08 Everybody stay in your home, in your apartment. I'm going to take a walk around while you guys are frozen. Yeah. I forgot everyone else would be frozen like that. Yeah. Well, yeah, it's like the simple things in life. It sounds like that's what we're all interested in. Isn't that interesting?
Starting point is 00:56:27 Yeah. Yeah. None of us are like, oh, I would. I know. We can do all of these things. We can walk around. We can read books. We can go to nature.
Starting point is 00:56:39 I can go see my mom. Yeah. You guys can come over for the weekend and meditate with me. Yeah. So I have to do this alone anymore. Yeah. None of us were like, I'd walk into the bank and... What?
Starting point is 00:56:55 Rob the bank. I don't know. Because everyone would be frozen. That's true. No, we all just kind of want to be alone. Well, Sophia might. She might. That'd be one of her stops on her walk.
Starting point is 00:57:08 She'd walk right into the bank and take it all. I love the phrase crack open a book. You can almost smell the new book smell there. Yeah. I was going to launch into just a few little mentions of my tour, if anybody cares. I'll be always doing Dynasty typewriter in Largo in Los Angeles. And then I'll also be. in New Hampshire, Connecticut, Portland, Maine.

Also, let's hear it again for the big Oscar win. Come see me in the good way. It's so exciting to get this news. to be able to share it that we did in fact
