The twisted tale of Amanda Knox is now streaming only on Disney Plus.
had you ever been up for a superhero role prior to this?
No, but I am curious what he had to do for an audition.
Seeing he's in the show, he kind of was out of mollusk mouse.
Like coming in, take your pants up.
Oh, my God, no.
Prepare your ears, humans.
Happy, sad, confused begins now.
Thank you so much for being here.
I'm Josh Horowitz, and today on Happy, Say, Confused.
We're live at the 92nd Street, why, with the cast of the boys, guys.
You ready for this?
Oh, you, you sick, twisted individuals.
I love you already.
You guys have great taste being here tonight.
This is a special one.
I'm obsessed with the show.
We're all obsessed with the boys, right?
It's season four.
There are so many adjectives to assign to this show.
It is funny.
It is disturbing.
It is gross.
It is, did I say, disturbing?
It is massively entertaining at the end of the day.
That's most important.
We're in season four.
We're careening towards, no tears, the end, season five.
Did you guys hear the news?
I know.
We're all going to collectively sobbed tonight.
But no, we're going to celebrate the beginning of the season with this amazing cast.
We've got a great group assembled, some new to the cast, some that have been with us from the very beginning.
Shall we get this party started?
Should we do this thing?
Okay. Please give a warm New York welcome to Chase Crawford, everybody. Chase.
Wes Alonzo is with us, Les. New to the cast, we have Valerie Curry, everybody. Valerie.
Susan Hayward, Sage is here. Come on out. Colby Menethe is here, everybody.
And you can't do the boys without Homelander.
Give it up for Anthony Starr, everybody.
Come on.
Hi.
Welcome, guys.
Happy season four.
This is how you celebrate by joining us.
Thank you for being here, everybody.
Thank you for having us.
Are we seated in approximate order of morality of characters here?
What's the one with the...
It's a little close.
I don't know.
Am I going to become more evil by sitting next to you?
If you come any closer, we're going to go on to date.
Oh, gosh.
Okay.
We just met, too.
Congratulations on the new season.
So, first of all, when a new season drops,
we have a lot of folks that have been with the show from the beginning.
Do you engage?
Are you out there?
Are you online?
Are you watching what these folks are saying?
Or is it best to kind of lay back?
It's a dangerous game.
It is.
You know, there's a lot of theater folks here.
The rule is no reading of reviews, so, and that's, that's, if you believe the good things,
you have to believe the bad things, so you just don't believe anything, and then you're fine.
No, you just believe the good things.
Yeah.
Absolutely.
It's like, you take all the good, and then anyone that says anything bad, fuck it.
They don't know what they're talking about.
It's also hard to kind of stay completely away because it's on social media.
It's on everywhere you look, nowadays we're surrounded with constant bombardment of information, so you can't
really totally unplug.
At the same time, also, like, this is a show
that is designed to provoke
in the best possible way.
So, now you're moving away.
You don't want to be too close.
No, I feel like I'm talking to my brain.
No, it's okay. It's okay. It's okay.
We need to bong.
Yeah, yeah, we'll get there. We'll get there, buddy.
But, yeah, like, you want this. You want to see
how the folks are reacting to the crazy shit that you guys
have been doing on set, I would imagine.
Yeah, look, I mean, it's also the way
that the show is structured. This season,
more than any.
We don't have read-throughs, we don't have rehearsals.
We sort of turn up and shoot.
So, I mean, I get to work with everyone but Las
on this stage at some point.
And my character's name is Mother's Milk.
Yeah, I'm just dying to get my hands on that guy.
There's one person I want to drain, and it's him.
That's how the show ends.
Give me your milk.
but we digress
no but it's funny because the only time we see
the other material is when we
read the scripts and then
it's really interesting I find it very interesting when the show comes out to actually
watch it and see what everyone else did
especially the boys unfortunately not only one of them is here
you're outnumbered I know this is very intimidating right now
you're really I just realized you're the only boy I need to call for backup
But no, it's the only time we get to see each other's work.
So it's a really, you know, take it with a fanfare out of it
because people are going to say we're going to say you're going to like it or not.
But it's great.
I love seeing what these guys are doing.
You know, we've got two new people in the cast who are crushing it.
And then we've got these three old hands who, you know,
since the beginning have been fucking rock stars.
So I love seeing what these guys are doing
if I haven't been in scenes with him.
And I think everyone feels like.
Yeah.
So for the newcomers, you are indeed crushing it.
You're killing it, guys.
Susan, Valerie.
What's it like to join this cast?
I mean, by all counts, this is a group.
I know it's always said, oh, we get along like a,
they actually really, you all sincerely love each other.
I get that sense.
So what's it like to join midstream?
Was it an adjustment period, or did you kind of feel like you knew your place from day one?
I felt like I was going to get fired every day.
I'm so scared. I was very intimidated.
You're the smartest person on the planet.
No, that's acting.
That's acting.
Let's pretend.
No, I was a fan of the show, so I knew the world, and I was delighted, intimidated, challenged.
I was really excited about Eric's vision for Sage, and just felt really lucky to get the chance,
and everyone was so welcoming.
And it's a set where everyone's about the work.
Everyone's just about telling this incredible story
that we're so lucky to get to.
So I was looking around, like,
oh, these are my people.
Let's find the moment.
Let's find another moment.
So it's really exciting.
Is there a day for you, Valerie,
where you're like, oh, yeah, this is the set of the boys.
This is probably what it feels like.
This is what it should be.
Oh, God.
I don't know, because my first days,
I was shooting TruthCon.
And I was on stage.
I really didn't get to interact with anyone.
I was just on stage talking for two pages about Tom Hanks.
Well, you guys had scenes.
So it was this removed because there's always the sort of,
there's the performance of the soup as well.
They kind of have the mask as well as the character.
So I was doing this kind of extended sort of detached version of her first as a way in,
but also I got to go in with like both feet,
the absolute absurdity.
And even though the fight didn't happen until later,
you know, Splinter was there, which is the voice.
I'd love to hear, did anybody hear,
even from the folks that had been from the start,
who had the most traumatic audition?
Who had the one that sticks out in the mind?
Or was it pretty smooth from the get-go?
Well, I sent a tape in and didn't hear anything for five months.
That's right there.
That's trauma in its own way.
Yeah.
But it was fine.
Once they called, it was fine.
Once they got that.
Yeah, after five months of white knuckling it,
finally, I was like, oh, how nice.
Anthony Chase, had you ever been up for a superhero role
prior to this?
No, but I am curious what he had to do for an audition.
Seeing his, seeing he's in the show,
he can't keep his dick out of mollusk mouse.
Like coming in, take your pants on really interesting.
No, it was, I was like the last one in the room.
was like a big, big list of people.
I'm like, oh, great.
They're never going to remember this, you know.
But I was the last one in there,
kind of like a little irritated.
I was last.
Saving the best for last days.
I should be first.
That was what I just went for.
I just thought it was like a big, you know,
okay, it's going to be like a few different audition.
Like it's going to be a big process, right?
And Kripke, but Kripke was in the room.
And it was just, no, it was just me being like talking about the local lobster.
That I, you know, hanging out with the therapist office.
And then it was like a bit of a fight scene with Starlight that wasn't in the actual script
where I like, you know, scream at her in all the stuff.
So it was kind of intense.
And then that was it.
And yeah, they used that tape and I was like mortified.
I'm like, should I do it again?
Like, can't I do it again later?
But no, they cast me.
They didn't make you get into costume that first day, I assume.
They wait for that.
They wait for that.
Yeah, they wait for that.
Are you okay wearing sleeves right now?
Does it feel weird to have scenes?
Feels a little itchy.
Yeah, it's weird.
It's not normally how I do it.
He arrived in a tank top.
He misses up my tan, obviously.
So we had to put him in a shit.
It's like, do you look good?
I hate the T-shirt tan.
Las, did you know what you were getting into?
Did you familiarize yourself with the comic prior to this, or what?
I had no idea that this comic even existed.
I just got, you know, the sides.
I didn't even get the whole script.
And it was the scene where Mother's Milk
is in the detention center.
So I've auditioned for characters like that
my entire career.
You know, come here, young man.
Take that ruler out of that.
That's your brother right there.
Take the ruler out of his throat.
You know, like that kind of big brother, you know,
in the hood type thing.
So for me it was a very comfortable environment.
Obviously, you know, reading the sides,
I got the tone of the show.
So I improv, and that in my own little comedic
stuff in there. And once I heard Cripke laugh, I was like, okay, this is good. You know, we're in
good shape here. And I just went for it, like Jay said. And then I found out that was the tape.
Yeah. Like, I was like, okay, this will be good enough to bring me to round two. Yeah.
They were like, there is no round two. This is what they're sending to, you know, Amazon and
Sony. And so luckily it was good enough. Amazing. Amazing. So, Needles,
to say Sage's entrance mixes it up
a lot. Really...
Little bit. A little bit.
The dynamic between you two, what can you
say about this relationship, you think, as we
proceed in this season?
Collaborative, respectful.
Deeply affectionate.
Right. Yeah. Very emotional.
What can we?
That kind of gives you a pretty good
impression of what you can expect,
I think. I think there are two women who have
a really strong point of view on the
world and note that they have a huge opportunity and want to make it count. So you get to see
how they work together. I think that's all I can say. I do think there's also, they're both
stepping into a certain kind of vacuum in the seven and they are both aware of that. So, you know,
there's a bit of like positioning, elbowing maybe to see what space we can occupy, which is maybe
all I can say. And
for the deep and sage
maybe not an equal footing
relationship to say the least.
Not quite, yeah. Yeah. She's
playing 3D chess and
you know, he's playing tic-tac-toe.
But we did so many different
takes of that. It could have been its own little comedy.
I remember. I'm like, watch like, God, we had so many
funny takes of that. But it's great.
Working with Susan. Yeah, we'd a blast.
And it's fun to
see Homelander kind of
put in his place and kind of out of his depth.
with, you know, the smartest person on the planet.
How does...
Oh, is that fun, is it?
Is it fun for you, I shouldn't.
Yeah, no, of course, it's great.
I mean, that's one of the things about my character.
You know, it's, a lot of the season was,
I spent a lot of the season with my son, Ryan, you know,
teaching him things or let the boy watch
and, you know, trying to make him a man.
And then there's this other person here helping me develop my legacy through the boy who's very difficult for me,
difficult for Homeland to deal with because there's a part of his mind that knows this is the right way forward.
This is a good thing.
But there's a pretty whopping ego that says, no, I can't handle it.
So, but, you know, the greater causes about the kid and legacy and all that.
So, yeah, it's probably very enjoyable for everyone to watch Homelander get crapped on.
But it's fun to play a midlife crisis.
But it's great.
Yeah, it's fun to play that.
As long as it doesn't seep into the reality.
Oh, there's nothing.
No, I'm fine.
I'm totally fine, totally fine.
It's really good.
I love that you all just laugh
I'm having a midlife crisis
rebel in his misery everybody
no but it's great
it's like this relationship was actually
one of the most enjoyable
that I've had in the show and so it was really
actually both of them because they both
and the stuff that me and Val get onto later on
is pretty pretty interesting
so I'm not going to go into a lot more
because I don't want to spoil anything for you guys
but there's a lot of great stuff coming up with everyone, really,
but especially you too.
I had a great time working with them.
How's Ashley doing?
Stress level in this season?
What do we think?
Yeah, I mean, she's really pissed, I think.
There's a lot of, you know, she has chosen a path
that is
she has to continue choosing it every day
and she really does love
I think the power
that she has
like she likes
I always think of like her going back to her
her high school reunion
and being like
that's right girls who believe me
fuck you you know like
but
but then you know
all of a sudden
this these two show up
and especially you, when you come in, you're like,
all of a sudden, I'm, you guys have seen the first three episodes, right?
And in the first three episodes, we, I get, I become a, I get, right?
I get fired.
Okay, great.
I forgot when that happened.
Thank you.
Yeah, that sucked for her.
And so all of a sudden, like, she's got this, something to contend with,
this, like, person that can talk to Homelander in the way that she talks to him,
and she doesn't die, and I'm like, excuse me.
I've spent all this time, like, cowtowing,
and all of a sudden I can't do that anymore.
So, yeah, I think she's having a bit of a hard time.
But she gets it out in a really kinky way.
So she's finding new levels of comfort and stress release.

As for you,
Yes, Mother's Milk's leadership abilities of the boys versus Butcher.
Who's the better leader at this point?
Mother's Milk is insanely horrible at leadership.
He hates it. He hates it.
And that's what I always loved about playing like his co-captain,
was that he had to worry about all the business side of it.
And now that MM is in charge of the boys,
you're going to see a lot of different things happening to the office.
It's going to look more M-M-ish.
Clean.
It's going to be spotless.
Complete, complete makeover, you know.
And, I mean, just in general, you know, obviously he's now buttoned up.
He's in a suit.
He has to report to the president, to the CIA.
Like, it takes a toll on him.
And so we start seeing that affect him.
is OCD differently than we've seen it in other previous seasons.
For you, Chase, did you have any idea you were playing opposite, spoiler alert, Tildus Winton?
No, I did.
Can't believe she did it.
I thought she was high or something when they told us.
At what point did they clue you in?
So you've shot the scene and they're like, by the way, that's Tildes Swinton.
Yeah, I know.
I think Kripke texted me that.
I was like, he's fucking with me.
I mean, there's no way.
But he did say he wanted, like, to get, like, you know,
the most British Oscar-winningest actress.
And there's only, like, two of them or three, you know.
So I had no idea because when I was shooting it,
it's like an empty tank.
There's no octopus.
It's like a little X.
And then there's, like, someone, like, overly dramatic
really reading it on the sides, you know.
And it's like, it was just, it was a lot of fun.
A lot of fun to, like, shoot it.
But you don't know who's going to be this proper, like,
nice voice.
She's so reasonable.
Are you allowed to say you've done a scene
with Tilda Swinton now, technically?
Oh, I'm going to be milking it for everything.
Yeah.
It's like, yeah, Oscar nominated.
Yeah, I'm like, yeah, exactly.
You left her in a dark closet, bro.
I know, I know.
And all my same outfits just in the closet.
Tilda's doing the same thing.
She's back in England and going,
I did this wonderful role as an octopus.
With Chase Crawford.
Oh, magnificent.
Oh, my head would explode
If I knew it
I love it
Has your relationship
With seafood changed
Thanks to the show
A little bit
Yeah
Yeah
I mean, yeah
You know
No, no no no
We just went to Mexico
And we ate more octopus
Than I've ever eaten
In my life
Yeah but that was it for me
That was like
This is done
It was a little bit much
People send over
Octopus to you
In restaurants ever?
No, they don't
They're just like
wearing them around there
They just have
I'll see like
People like
Dress up
And they'd be like
Look what I
to Comic-Con or whatever.
And it's like a stuffed animal, octopus.
It's always like a toy.
Right.
It's always like a toy thing.
Forever.
Did Deep watch my octopus teacher?
Chase watched it.
The Kripke was like,
Have you ever seen my octopus teacher?
And I was like, yeah?
Like, what?
What? Why do you want from me?
But yeah, no.
But I mean, the funny, the documentary
was actually really good.
It's really heart rendering, no, but yeah, it was interesting.
Yeah, these are the things they do not warn you about when you take on roles.
You don't anticipate this kind of collateral damage.
Yeah, I dreamed of it since I was five.
Yeah, mom, yeah, it was great.
But they loved it.
This cast is wonderful.
Sadly, some of the cast couldn't be here, but someone sent in a message that they wanted to play for you guys.
Shall we check in with Mr. Jack Quaid, everybody?
Yes.
Check it out.
Hey, Josh, Jack Quaid here, long-time listener, first-time caller.
I'm coming to you live from my apartment.
My question is for the cast.
We always get asked what our favorite onset memory is.
What's your favorite offset memory?
What's your favorite memory of just hanging out in Toronto with everybody?
I love you all.
I miss you all.
Go fuck yourselves.
Have an amazing night.
Say hi to Papa Gary for me.
Okay.
Bye, everybody.
Bye.
Oh,
so what are this off set shenan?
I got one.
What's...
So, last year, Chase decided to be so nice to us and host one birthday party.
Good story.
Good story.
One birthday party at his crib.
Oh, yeah.
We took over his house.
It was like a loft space.
Like kind of like a...
Beautiful loft.
Beautiful love.
Like one space.
But we were just very disrespectful.
Carl was very disrespectful.
To the point where 2.30 in the morning,
we're still blasting music, dancing,
singing karaoke,
and somehow Carl and Tomear, Frenchi,
decided they had five.
I mean, we're drunk.
Might as well light some fireworks in front of Jason's building.
No, they first, they tried to light them inside his apartment.
Yes.
I didn't know about any of that.
I'm putting out my own fires.
So then they weren't just fireworks.
They were, you know, those like M80s, those like...
The shells.
Yeah, they were like half a dynamite stick, yeah.
Yo, his neighbors, I don't know how you didn't get kicked out of that neighborhood.
I have no idea.
People were screaming, and these are Canadians.
They're nice people.
We were getting yelled at in English, in French, you name it.
It was hilarious.
No, because the neighbor's dogs, you know, and I have a dog, too.
I get that when you get really angry when your dog gets involved.
So she, like, came over.
But I kind of had, like, go out there, get out there, and talk to her.
We were all apologizing.
I apologize later, but then some of the other neighbors were like,
And then we took over his house for, like, the next five birthdays
because his house, it was so much fun.
It was just like, yeah.
Carl.
And then the cops, like, we sound like a cop car, like slowly.
And we were all like, the cops.
We were hiding.
We were hiding in the bathroom.
We were playing like running charades.
Then it just evolved into, you know, fireworks.
Running charades.
Yeah.
Was that my birthday or parents?
I didn't say running charades was your birthday.
I think it was my.
But then there was mine and then there was Karen.
We had two parties.
Yeah, we had two parties.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Colby was wearing a see-through shirt that wasn't see-through.
But it looked like it was see-through.
It's the naked.
Yes.
Body suit.
Naked.
I have a body suit that's, like, printed with a naked body.
Someone else's naked body on.
That was a hit, though.
I almost wore it tonight, actually.
Oh, my God.
But I was wearing that, and it was making everybody deeply uncomfortable.
We were not uncomfortable.
Everyone except for Valerie.
You had to be there.
No, I feel like we were all just there.
Maybe cross off indoor fireworks next time and just, like, go to a Taylor Swift concert or something, like, something chill, guys?
Just a suggestion.
Very chill, very chill. Very chill.
So normally, like, the tried and true question is similarities between the character you play, right?
But in this case, you probably don't want to own up to any, too many similarities between you and the characters you play.
Does anybody want to out another cast member?
What's something they share with the characters?
character they play.
Susan's really smart.
No, I'm dumb.
No, no.
Susan is really smart.
Underestimate me, it's great.
Don't pay attention, don't look.
Thank you, Colby.
You're welcome.
That was positive.
That was good.
But we don't want positive.
We want negative.
Anything else?
Jack Quaid is literally Huey.
I mean, you just saw that.
He's just like, hmm.
I got to do things on Instagram with my thumbs.
If you think about it though, Carl's kind of butcher and Domer is kind of Frenchy.
Right.
Yeah.
So I'm not gonna argue.
I'm just saying.
You're also very anal about cleaning shit.
You're a very tidy man.
I am.
I am.
Very tidy man.
I can get my M.M. on.
And then there's Chase.
Totally different in my character.
Right, Anthony?
Right?
Totally, wow.
Do you, Chase, do you draw upon any friends, family, co-workers in the past for The Deep?
What's your inspiration for The Deep?
No, we all know that guy, kind of, right?
I mean, not like, I'm trying like the Perlake did kind of, you know, that guy who's just so unself-aware and doesn't really get it, right?
I'm not a guy that does the things that the Deep does.
you know, he's just like, that guy's
a little bit aloof and kind of, you know.
But he's doing God's work. But he's doing
God's work. Humble
man, he's a humble man. He's a humble guy doing
God's work. So.
But I have to say, I say this all the time, but I have to say
you have to be so smart to play that dumb.
It's not easy
what Chase does. It's true.
You have to be really, my favorite,
this is my favorite story, but I'm going to tell it again.
That my favorite line that Chase
did is, he has, you know,
In, like, season three, he gives Starlight a gold necklace.
And the line is, it's 24-carat gold.
And Chase comes in, and he adds one word.
And it's so brilliant.
And it makes the deep so much dumber.
He goes, it's 24-carat and gold.
You have to be so smart to do that.
I love you. Thank you.
It's true.
Oh, my gosh.
There's so many iconic scenes from the show.
I want to play at least one or two
before we get out of here.
This is the end of last season.
Instantly iconic, featuring Homelander
in a very pivotal moment
with a crowd that just eats up what he's doing.
Let's check out the end of season three.
Check it out.
Abuse.
Say it.
Yeah.
Say it.
That's my boy.
Yeah!
Fuck yeah, USA, USA.
All right.
Yeah, we're dumb as far, guns.
Whoa, USA.
Music, like.
Let the boy watch.
Yeah, but there was an assault.
He was an assaulted with a bottle.
We saw.
Sure, sure, sure, sure.
So it's fair enough, right?
Eh!
You laughed, but if it was your kid.
What a dumb thing to do, throw a bottle at it like...
You killed him.
Yeah, well, you know.
What's the stage direction for Home Wander's reaction?
Do you remember what Eric and...
I think it was hurry up and get this done because we were running out.
No, I'm not even kidding.
It was like we spent so much time that day shooting, me and my son landing in our little piano wire rigs.
And we were trying to angle with the sun because, you know, the sun moves.
So to try and make it all work.
And it was literally, it was like two takes.
And I actually thought I fucked that up completely.
I was like, I was very surprised.
It's quite a, it's quite a memed moment, which I've, if anyone can fit,
out how to monetize memes, see me after, I'd have about 80 bucks.
So, no, but it was like literally like, okay, we gotta go, we're gonna go, we're gonna go.
And I left that day, I remember leaving that day thinking that, ah, I really didn't stick that
and feeling terrible about it.
So it just goes to show actors really, we don't know what we're talking about.
But it worked out, okay.
But you shouldn't throw stones at, or bottles.
people with superpowers. It's just dumb. There are a lot of lessons in that scene. There's
many lessons. There's also a lesson in that, like, I guess even a smile can, in the wrong
context, be super disturbing. Did you ever imagine that a simple smile could turn into something
that's, like, chilling? No, well, the thing was, the thing about it was as well, is like,
at least me personally, I don't want to answer the question. I wanted to leave it open,
and I think the look at the end in my eyes, anyway, as I see it, is not, is not,
oh, ho, ho, ho, I got away with it, is, oh, fuck.
How much can I get away with?
You know, it's a realization, like, wow, I could walk down in a street in New York with a number on it and shoot someone.
Sounds somewhat familiar.
If it rings a bell, it rings a bell.
But, you know, it wasn't so much like, ha ha, got away, it was more like, oh, wow, someone's just opened the door and I can walk through and let's see where that goes.
And I think that comes across in that moment.
Do you guys, like, openly, I mean, look, obviously you're satirizing a lot of things that we're seeing in real life.
You just alluded to a figure that pops up every day in our news feed.
But is that something that's discussed on set?
Like, does Trump's name come up when you're discussing homework?
I don't know who that is.
But anyway, one of the things that I've deliberately gone against is, like, I don't want to make him like that.
That's Eric, Eric very much likens that character to that person, but oddly enough, I always felt like if we did model it on that person, it would be a two-dimensional cardboard cut out of a character.
And we wanted to make something with more layered, more dimension to it.
Because it's, he just hasn't got any, he's got one and he's got two gears.
It's a tack and I don't know what the other one is.
Is it something to do with dancing?
I don't know, I don't know what the fuck, I don't know, that's like stuck in reverse or something, but no, we wanted to make something better than that, so I think, like, you take a little bit from life, there's a little bit of, dare I said, Obama, no, but you know how he always comes out and goes, hey, how you doing, all that, so we started pulling little pieces of everything in, so it's not strictly based on, touched you, it's not strictly, it's not strictly, it's not strictly, it's not strictly, it's not strictly based on, it's rubbing.
Never been so uncomfortable.
No, we've bonded.
Speaking of real-life counterparts, Marjorie Taylor Green come up, maybe?
I have never heard of that person.
Yeah, you know, I think at times it can be challenging in a similar way,
and obviously Firecracker is so resonant of many voices that we cannot escape currently.
And there have been times, one time in particular, there was a bit of dialogue, and I reached out to Kripke and I was like, I don't know, this feels like, would she really say this? This feels like too far. And he's like, actually, this is a quote, and here's the video.
Not from hers, from someone else who also, I don't know. And so it's one of those things where it could be so easy to watch those videos to really.
like lean into those real life figures that were satirizing here to draw from, but then I worry
about that falling into parody. So it was nice to take a break from the Marjorie Taylor Green's thing.
Yeah, I think that's the case with everything in the show is like, you know, we've got to,
yes, there's a relationship with, there's a very, this season more than any, there's a direct
correlation with what's going on in the world
socially and politically, but I think
what's most important is
that the narrative is driven by the needs
of the characters, and I think that's one thing that we've
all policed, not
policed, but we've all been
the custodians of our characters in that
respect.
Really?
Right when I'm trying to say something,
it's feeding time.
Laz is going to
go.
No, but I think that's one thing that, you know, everyone in this cast, we're very fortunate.
Everyone in this show, it's not just the cast, but everyone really cares about staying true to what we're trying to make not just poach from the real world and smash it into the world without, you know, the square peg in the round hole.
I think everything makes sense when it comes from a narrative driven my character.
Is it odd to play
Homelander out of costume for the first time?
Yeah.
Yeah, that was cool.
That was our first scene together.
That was our first scene again?
Yeah, that was really, it was cool
because that wasn't your first scene though.
No, no, I think the first scene.
No, but that was our first scene together.
That was our first scene together.
So that was kind of cool
because we were building this relationship.
We're setting up this new character
and I didn't know what to do
out of the costume.
It was really weird out of that
Because that, I don't know how you guys found it in the end, but like, but you put the
suit on and there's a, something happens mentally.
It just shifts you into, I mean, I can't move anyway once in a minute.
It's like, that's it.
Like, there's a very physical way that that takes over.
But did you guys find that?
Well, with the suit.
With the suit, absolutely, especially because we hadn't shot anything.
And I had, um, Shannon.
L. Shannon.
L.J.
Thank you.
L.J.'s voice in my head about all the ideas that were possible.
So it was kind of like a well of energy coming up from the ground.
Like, anything is possible.
It's a dangerous amount of possibility and power that comes when you put it on.
But I remember that first day also feeling like, I don't know what to do.
I have no idea what to do.
And in that moment of instability kind of clocking in with you and just playing off each other,
you're so gracious to do and the way you were very encouraging as well um was exciting and
scary and kind of made a knot in the pit of my stomach which i think kind of shows up and
translates yeah man it's fun yeah oh hi buddy who's the best you are i wish i could spend a
day with you instead.
Uh, Dave, you're Huff mute.

Okay, it's official.
We are very much in the final sprint to election day.
And face it, between debates, polling releases, even court appearances, it can feel exhausted.
even impossible to keep up with.

because staying informed shouldn't feel overwhelming.
Do you all now have, like, a different perspective on superhero films, TV shows, comic books?
Does it now kind of give you, can you not help but think, oh, like, Iron Man's probably a secret asshole now?
Like, I mean, we're not so secret.
I was going to say.
Or maybe no.
We look at everyone.
Anybody.
Anyone?
I mean, I feel like us as a society, right?
now we're more cynical than we used to be. There was a moment when we did believe in the
heroes as they were presented to us. So I think it's one of the reasons why the show resonates
the way it does. I think there's a deep suspicion of things that are presented to us
to look up to and to just believe in without any kind of questioning or poking or prodding.
So yeah, I think we're all in this moment of questioning our institutions.
As you can imagine, we have some audience questions.
This is from Claudia.
For any of you, what would your character's social media platform be,
and what would they post on there?
Can you imagine what the social media presence of your character would be?
Just virtue signaling, constant, touching on everything, like, Juneteenth, like, nightmare.
And like, look at my new outfit.
Fair enough.
Would any of you be friends with your character in real life?
We got one.
I'll be friends.
With your own character?
Yeah.
Oh, no.
You were rooting him on in that clip.
I was thinking about Lazz.
I was like, yeah, it seems like a good...
But no, no, no.
Would you be friends with Sage?
I don't think Sage has friends.
She lives alone
She's like a fucking
Shut in
There's no friends
She has her books
Yeah
There's no friends
First Age
My friends are Thomas
Toy
Is it can come out
Chase no love for the deep
Oh no chance
No
Definitely not
No
Hey bro
What's up bro
I mean
Seam with a gym
Hey what's up man
As the gym
As the atrocities stack up year after year, do you become more empathetic or less empathetic with the characters?
Because, you know, the cliche, it's not really a cliche, is like, you know, playing a villain, you have to see it from their perspective, right?
You're not necessarily thinking of them as a villain, or does that go out the window after a certain number of atrocities are pulled?
Glancing at me.
So, it's funny, like, I don't see my character as a victim, but there's always going to be a reason behind what's happening.
I don't think there's any redemptive path for Homelander.
But, like, I am interested in why he is what he is.
And I think actually, who's seen, you guys have seen one, obviously,
but you've seen three?
Nearly everyone?
Okay, I'm not going to spoil,
but next episode is really very interesting from that perspective for my guy.
And I'll shut up there because I don't want to spoil anything.
And I'll hand that over to...
Some other villain.
Well, I think for me, I'm new here,
but I think as the atrocities mount up,
it's more curious.
It's like, what is going on?
What happened to you, baby?
You know, and you get to keep investing, keep building.
Well, this must have happened in this person's past
for them to go this far.
So just as much as the atrocities build up,
the relationship has to get deeper, I think.
Colby, I think you mentioned it in another conversation, some succession comparisons.
Which character would play who in succession?
Who's Logan?
Who's Connor?
Who's who?
Oh, I can't remember what I said.
This was not too long ago that I said this.
Yeah, we were, was it you that asked that question?
It wasn't me.
Somebody's the thing we got to ask about what show would you cross over with.
Cross over with.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
It would be like succession.
How fun.
But I could see it fitting in in a weird way.
Yeah.
Who would I be?
Oh, who would anybody be?
I mean, Jeremy Strong?
No!
No!
I fucking knew you were going to say that.
It was the one guy, I'm like, please don't make me him.
No, I don't want to be that guy.
What do you want to be?
It's okay.
I would like to be Brian Cox.
I think I would be the oldest brother
that gets totally, he's like,
I'm going to run for president.
And rap at my birth
Oh, no, no, that was him.
Yeah, sorry.
No, that was Jeremy Strong.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Rapping at his birthday.
That's the deep.
The deep is Greg, obviously.
The deep is definitely Greg.
I mean, or Connor, maybe.
Greg, Greg.
That's a very good point.
There's always a cousin Greg, and it's the deep, definitely.
They're related.
Oh, no, I want to be Matthew McFadian, I changed my mind.
Oh, you want, okay.
I want to be Matthew McFaddy.
He's my favorite.
That's how you say his name, right?
McFodian.
Yeah, McFadian, yeah.
We can just spend the rest of the time trying to figure that out.
Yeah, I think that's good. That's good. That's what we do.
Another question from the audience, if you could play another character on the show, who would it be?
You can swap roles for a day.
Who do you want to?
I'm in love with the deep. I would do the deep.
I would not do it as nearly good of a job, but I would.
You should switch. Yeah, it'd be great.
I could put on the wig, yeah, it'd be great.
I love your character, yeah.
Anybody else want to switch?
Karen, Karen's character.
I think she gets to do such a much.
amazing stunts and she's like girl power.
Sage isn't, that's not her power.
So I'd love to go the complete opposite direction.
Did you have something you know?
You're good?
I'd like to try butcher.
It's a fun one, yeah.
It was kind of a pity wenge.
You feel good.
Come on, guys.
No, I know.
I'd be shit at it, but that's okay.
No, I'd give it a shot.
He's got a cool jacket, big boots.
looks kind of chic.
You just won out of that homeowner uniform.
I just want to wear no more clothes.
So it has been announced
there's only one more season left, guys.
How are we feeling about this?
Did this catch anybody off guard,
or did Kripke tell you this was the plan, basically?
We knew, yeah, we knew for a while.
Yeah.
Yeah, he started the show saying,
saying, you know, this was always
in his head to go five seasons.
And of course, I don't know.
about you guys, but I was sitting there go, we'll see. Oh, we shall see. It might only go, too.
But no, the show's done well. I think one of the most important things, I won't speak for
everyone, because most everyone's not here, but I think everyone wants to go out on a strong
note, and I think there's nothing worse, and I've been involved in a show that did this,
and it was fucking horrible. You do that last season, and it's shit, and you get remembered very
poorly and you're going to kind of wear that. And I hope, I like to think that we will go out
on a really strong note. And I think we all deserve it. I think the people that make the show
that aren't here across the board from the executives at Amazon to at Vort, to the people to
the people to the people, to the people. It's a fucking great team of people that all deserve
to have the show go out on a strong note. So hopefully we'll do that.
Any of you made specific requests?
Before we end this show, Eric, I need this for my character.
I need this moment.
I've been unsuccessfully pitching
that we end the show with a feature film to Eric.
Like, make the last episode of season five,
the cliffhanger, and announce the film
that we've been filming since the beginning
of the series, pretty much.
You know, but he always says,
somehow gets out of that one that doesn't
yet. Would it be in
cinemas? Sorry? Would it be in
cinemas? Yeah. Eat your film.
Okay, I'm down.
What do you guys think? I don't want to just
like... Should we get
everybody, should we get
everybody to at
Eric Kripke on Twitter?
Shameless, but I love it.
Yes. Just saying,
you didn't hear from me.
You guys just want the feature film, right?
he's on Twitter
what about a telefeature on lifestyle
no dream bigger
no we're good
does this
help or hurt chances in the future
to play another comic book superhero
does anybody is it hard to
move past the boys and play another
costumed superhero
there's been talk
Anthony thank you mister gold
booster gold
booster gold what does he do you know about booster
Gold?
No, tell me.
You seriously not?
No, I genuinely don't.
I'm not, I'm a little slow.
You have been fancasted a lot as this character who is, it's a long story.
But I can see this comparisons and maybe it's too close in some ways to Homelander, but clearly there's no truth to these rumors.
Is he got blonde hair?
He does.
He does.
Wow, how'd you come up with that?
You really dug deep for that one.
So we can cross off Booster Gold off the list.
I'm getting old and my body.
old and my body doesn't want to do much
action anymore. I want to sit and
go, hey, you go and do all that
stuff. I want to sit behind
a desk on a CSI
show and go,
oh, you shouldn't have done that. Go back out and try
how to
superhero
smearer.
All right, let's end
with this. Some most likely to
is among the cast. Who's most likely to go on Reddit
reading about the boys? Like,
reading fan theories, really diving
into the internet stuff. Anybody?
Oh, it sounds like none of you are on there.
I've done that a little bit.
Yeah?
Let's see.
Okay.
The first season.
Just to see what's up.
Yeah.
It was nice.
Very nice.
I think I know the answer to this.
Most likely to complain about their costume?
Anthony.
Come on.
Nathan.
Oh, yeah, you're right, Nathan.
Nathan complains, like, on an hourly basis.
Ah, I can't move.
It's like, you don't.
talk.
Shh.
He also can't see out of the face.
Life imitating art.
Hey, sh, shh, shh.
We'll be in scenes and he's literally asleep.
He'll fall asleep during like scenes.
Actually, he legit falls asleep.
He's really like.
There's a line in that is not, is not asleep, and he wakes up and goes,
I'm nocalyptic, which he really is.
Because he fucking is in real life.
He's fallen asleep at the table in that suit in real life.
real life. Nathan is
almost an acalyptic.
He's not joking.
He's method. He's going all in.
Most likely to take Compound V.
Give it a try.
The cast?
Of the cast?
Yeah.
Tomair.
Yeah?
Yeah, I'd give that a crack, right.
Microdosync.
Just a little in the morning.
Anyone that
wants to do indoor fireworks, don't trust them
compound V.
Who's most likely to secretly be a superhero?
You haven't told anybody.
They're actually running around town
in a costume.
Jack, quiet.
But it'd be, what was that movie with a kid
that dressed up and, like, a track suit, basically?
Pick ass, yeah.
He'd be like kick ass.
Try to do good.
Oh, my God.
Who's most likely to join an ice show?
The boy's ice show, ice capids.
I feel like Colby.
Like you would secretly be taking ice skating lessons
in addition to your other crafts and skills.
When I'm not potting, I'm ice skating.
Did have an ice skating party once a couple years ago.
But I was, what happened was, it was funny.
I, like, face planted.
And then some guy, like, picked me up off the ice
and he got my number.
We then went on a date.
it didn't go well, but it would have been a really cool way to meet somebody.
It didn't work out, but that's okay.
Next.
Most likely to be in the boys' musical.
You're coming to Broadway.
The boys on Broadway, finally.
Colby.
Yeah, one of you theater brats.
I don't think, no.
Okay.
And finally, who wants to make a pitch for a spinoff?
there's already some spinoffs that are on the air
that are in the works
this is your chance Eric's going to be watching this
60 second pitch
I would I think there should be a
pitching on behalf
I think
Colby and Chase's characters
would make it pretty epic
you're a great show
like a buddy some kind of buddy cop film
Prime Analytics
Ashley in the deep
it would be pretty great
That would be really...
Take L.A.
We moved to L.A.
The deep's going to be an actor.
But it'd be like a half hour, a half hour or three.
Oh, it'd be a half hour.
Like Barry or something weird.
It could, it would be like 22 minutes.
It couldn't have a hour.
It wouldn't sustain.
With ad breaks.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Because it's on ABC.
Just get Tilda Swinton involved,
and you've got a show.
You got a green light.
Anything of the tease without ruining the rest of the season?
What can fans expect?
We've teased a little bit already.
Adjectives to describe this season, anybody?
I'll start.
These blank faces.
I'll tell you what I would say.
I would say that the season does not end how it starts.
I mean, it's a very strong, I don't want to say on the nose,
but it's not subtle about what it's saying in the beginning,
as we've seen, and you've all seen.
Do not expect that to continue.
Like everything in this show,
nothing is what it seems.
So don't be misled by the three-episode narrative
that you've seen thus far.
Everything is about to flip on its head at some point.
Expect the unexpected one might say.
I could have just said that.
But thank you for correcting.
That's all good.
That's our dynamic now.
now. Guys, give it up one more time for the amazing cast of the boys.
Season 4 on Prime, check it out. Thank you guys so much for coming out tonight, guys.
Really appreciate it.
Thank you, guys.
And so ends another edition of happy, sad, confused.
