Episode Date: July 17, 2025

We were joined at The Pit Recording Studio in Sunland, CA by Nitisart “Mike” Chaiburi and Kitti “Ole” Suwan of the great WHISPERS, all the way from Bangkok, Thailand.A truly unbelievable group... of people both personally and musically, they’ve broken through every barrier imaginable through their undeniable spirit, infectiously unique and hard and passionate love for hardcore music.Being the first band from Bangkok to achieve so much of what they have achieved, we’re honored to talk to Whispers about their origin from local band in Bangkok who evolved into the definitive band that represents not only their city, but all of Thailand around the world. We can’t think of a better group or a better band for the job, and just five minutes of this conversation is all you’ll need to hear to understand why.______________________________________ Edited by Steven Grise (@iamoneonenineseven) • Title sequence by Nicholas Marzluf (@marzluf) HardLore: A Knotfest Series Join the HARDLORE PATREON to watch every single weekly episode early and ad-free, alongside exclusive monthly episodes: https://patreon.com/hardlorepodJoin the HARDLORE DISCORD: https://discord.gg/jA9rppggef_____________________________________ Cool links:HardLore Official Website/HardLore Records store: https://hardlorepod.comTry AG1 at DrinkAG1.com/HARDLORE to receive a free 1-year supply of vitamin D and 5 travel packs of AG1.Get 15% off MADD VINTAGE with code HARDLORE15! https://maddvintage.com/___________________________________ FOLLOW WHISPERS:INSTAGRAM | https://www.instagram.com/whispershc/TWITTER | https://www.twitter.com/whispershc FOLLOW MIKE:INSTAGRAM | https://www.instagram.com/mikelaw307/ FOLLOW OLE:INSTAGRAM | https://www.instagram.com/oletalifez/ FOLLOW HARDLORE:INSTAGRAM | https://www.instagram.com/hardlorepod/TWITTER | https://twitter.com/hardlorepodSPOTIFY | https://spoti.fi/3J1GIrpAPPLE | https://apple.co/3IKBss2 FOLLOW COLIN:INSTAGRAM | https://www.instagram.com/colinyovng/TWITTER | https://www.twitter.com/ColinYovng FOLLOW BO:INSTAGRAM | https://www.instagram.com/bosxe/TWITTER | https://www.twitter.com/bosxe #HARDLORE #HARDCORE 00:00:00 - Start00:01:02 - Introduction00:02:20 - Finding Hardcore in Thailand00:08:25 - 555555555555500:10:19 - Their Many Many Vintage Stores00:12:15 - Friendships before Whispers00:13:33 - H8000 Bands00:15:45 - Finding European Hardcore00:18:17 - Activities Outside of Whispers00:20:13 - Mike’s Vocal Style00:21:19 - Whispers Through the Years00:24:34 - Bangkok During Covid00:26:00 - Relax Time00:27:57 - Stories With Stéphen Kickback00:31:02 - Pardon This Interruption00:33:40 - Meeting Gap00:37:01 - First Whispers Tour Ever00:39:00 - Asian Countries Played00:39:42 - Response To Whispers Across The World00:41:00 - Linking Up with Speed00:42:09 - Touring Europe00:43:16 - Yom Ma Lok00:47:24 - Flatspot Records00:48:15 - First US Tour00:51:00 - Future Aspirations for Whispers00:51:59 - Tied Down Fest00:53:41 - Tour Essentials (Hot Dogs)00:54:49 - US Food vs Thailand Food01:00:18 - Sound and Fury01:03:21 - Top 4 HC Records01:06:38 - Ghosts?01:10:45 - Patreon Q&A01:11:38 - Top 4 Thai HC01:12:38 - Greatest Breakdown Of All Time01:14:50 - Inspirations / Influences  HardLore: A Knotfest Series, Fueled by Monster EnergyEdited by Steven Grise • Title sequence by Nicholas MarzlufJoin the HARDLORE PATREON to watch every single weekly episode early and ad-free, alongside exclusive monthly episodes.Join the HARDLORE DISCORD for community discussions and to participate in our future Q&A episodes.FOLLOW HARDLORE: INSTAGRAM, TWITTER, SPOTIFY, APPLEFOLLOW COLIN: INSTAGRAMFOLLOW BO: INSTAGRAM, TWITTER For sponsorship opportunities, email us! info@hardlorepod.com Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Starting point is 00:00:00 So how close are you guys as friends before Whisper starts? I think like the university. Yeah, because we are the same university. Okay. Yeah. What did you study in university? I'm in English major class. That's what's up.
Starting point is 00:00:14 I can tell. I'm marketing. Marketing? Well, oh my God. That's why the video came up. Watch this and you'll see why. Oh, I'm so tired in the Marsh Pit. I need energy.
Starting point is 00:00:35 Whisper, Hong Tai. Good, your energy for a more spend. So, welcome. It's Hard Door time. How you doing, Bo? I'm doing so good. Who do we got? This is a momentous day.
Starting point is 00:01:11 This is really over 10 years in the making in many ways. Thailand and me in the heart go way back. We're all the same. It's beautiful. You've been there? I've never been there. You've been there. I have.
Starting point is 00:01:25 Good. But I love these people so much. I love this band so much. I love everything they do. And now we are finally so honored to welcome Mike and Oleg from Whispers. How are you guys doing? Hello. Good.
Starting point is 00:01:40 So de Khab, so de Kopp, so di Kov. Hello, how you doing? So good. It's so good now. How are you doing? Great. Great. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:50 Second time in the U.S.? Yes. And you flew in yesterday? No, we flew in. Sunday. No, I think we are like here. Two days ago? Two days ago.
Starting point is 00:01:59 Yeah. So you're all right. All right. They played Gilman last night. Oh, how was that? We saw it out. It's the show. It was sold out.
Starting point is 00:02:05 And that is like the best show ever we ever done. One up to the best. Yeah. That's one of the best places to play in the country. Yeah. It's kind of all downhill. It's kind of all downhill for me. It's so crazy.
Starting point is 00:02:16 Before we start really ripping, we got to take a big whiff of this Whispers, Compound Herb Inhaler, not branded. Unbranded. Unbranded. DIY. DIY. Yeah. Now I'm ready.
Starting point is 00:02:32 That helps you mosh. It helps you smell. It helps you function, eat everything. Yeah. Thank you for that. A really nice gift. It's a beautiful gift. It's a beautiful gift.
Starting point is 00:02:41 I feel great. So guys. Fellas. Let's go back in time here. Yeah. Tell me about how you both found hardcore music. For me? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:51 I'm start to go to the scene because I love the heavy music from the start. Like, Sleep, Not. Like in part. and one of my friends in high school, because of he come from a different school, I'm seeing, pay for Perk from Bing Me to Horace in front of the classroom. You sang a talent show? No, no, no, no, no, just like in the, like, just funny.
Starting point is 00:03:19 Because you're the class class. Yeah, yeah, yeah, just like me and him, like, it's an early morning in the classroom because, like, me and him, like, we early guys. Yeah. So I'm seeing it. And he like, yo, that is bringing me the heart son. I know the band.
Starting point is 00:03:33 I think like the one that in that school, like, listen like heavy music like that. That's what I'm thinking. So he said like, yo, I know the band. So after that. Did you like, yeah. Yeah, like that. Like yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Like that.
Starting point is 00:03:48 No mic. No mic. Just. Wow. Yeah. Good. Good acoustics in those classes. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:53 And he's just like, oh, you know, in Thailand, they have like, um, undergrad. underground show like um they're core or everything like that so it's my first time to be there to see like a lot of the band like they they mix with like deadcore mid andcore emo whatever everything everything and last two band in that time it's a hardcore band they named born from pain but thailand oh okay okay yeah they just played the new one yeah so good do they play their own songs or born from pains no they own song they're all the old song yeah from 1998 yeah okay yeah yeah kind of same time yeah yeah and a zero I like I never seen anything like that like straight diving mosh pit I like I'm really
Starting point is 00:04:41 stoked about it like oh so good so the first show you go to UC2 of like the premier Thailand hardcore bands and it's crazy yeah and you're hooked yeah I'm like oh shit this my shit like I the thing that is like I'm loved to mosh like I love break down I like oh shit what do you always say Amen. Mosh. I'm like, yeah. Speaking of the heart.
Starting point is 00:05:02 And that is the way that I'm starting. And how old were you at that time? You're in high school? I think 15, 16, some stuff like that. Yeah. And how about you? What about you, Mike? How did you get here?
Starting point is 00:05:12 I started from that time too. But, you know, like, back then I, you know, I didn't know what, like, I didn't know much about this kind of music. I just like listen to it all. Yeah. Like, it's heavy. Metal core heavy. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:26 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Me too heavy. And then I just like, I think I started to listen like comeback kids to her on my playlist, you know, like I just like mixing between metal, dead metal, you know, like hardcore too, but I didn't know. So I just, I got my old band and I just like want to come to like OLE, come to the underground local show. And that time, it's like, it's not many hardcore bands that I know. So I just like walk to OLE and we are on the same age.
Starting point is 00:06:00 So we can, you know, like, be friends. Learn together. Yeah, learn together. One thing, like, his first band, I'm a fan. Okay. Yeah. That's perfect. What was the band?
Starting point is 00:06:10 Because of that is the game. The, the, what is the band? I thought you were a fan. The Boston Stangler. The Boston Stangler. Strangler. You were also Boston Strangler? No.
Starting point is 00:06:25 They're kind of same name but different. He do like the backdial or stuff like that. Yeah. That's awesome. That's the youngest band. Yeah, I just like 15, 16 to. And playing hard music. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:40 Awesome. Who all does what in the band for everybody watching? We have the rest of the band is in the room next to us listening. But let's, we should probably like sings, guitar. Yeah. Base and another guitar and daddy over there. Daddy. So they just like run into the scene like undergown scene for a long time before us
Starting point is 00:07:01 So it's just like met them at the some undergau show and then like you know They got the old band or hardcore band too like the proper hardcore so what time did you guys meet what year? Oh Let me wrap it up. Oh yeah Go ahead and wrap that off because of me and Nung we have another band like early before the whispers yeah name The Christmas promise. The Christmas promise? Yeah. What kind of bad?
Starting point is 00:07:30 I'm intrigued. I think, I think like we like South like The ghost inside. Yeah, yeah. Oh, okay. The Christmas promise. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:43 You guys fuck with Christmas like that in Thailand? No. That's why the promise is bad. So we... I think they have some tour like some like coding band named Sixth or something they do a tour in um northeast of Thailand and we in the same bus like we yeah yeah and like we pay some music and you like that and like talking my band his band yeah so that's why I met them yeah what year was
Starting point is 00:08:13 I think would be 2012 or 13 I think okay yeah before before we 2010 something How they go around that? Before the university. Has he always been so silly? Sorry? Has he always been the silliest guy? Yeah. He's so silly.
Starting point is 00:08:29 Yeah. That's why we met. Five, five, five, five, five. That is the way that when you're laughing, you're like, ha, ha, ha, ha, right? Yeah. It's the same sound. Five. Five in Thailand is ha.
Starting point is 00:08:42 Ha. Ha. Ha ha ha. I see it. It's like five, five. So now you know, five, five. When they're typing fives, you killed it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:50 And what's the Spanish was? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Ha, ha, ha, or the AJ, AJ, AJ, yeah. Yeah. Oh, yeah, yeah. So were you, yeah, that'll do it. Were you first attracted to, like, were there a lot, was there a big Bangkok scene of local bands that got you involved? Or were you, I know you guys are, like, deep into European hardcore and metalcore.
Starting point is 00:09:10 Yeah. Hey,000 stuff. I know you could tell me things I've never heard. No way. Was Bangkok, hardcore, a thriving scene, like, full of local bands that you guys love? Oh, yes, it's a lot of the band. The band, like, I think new born from PIN, so good.
Starting point is 00:09:29 They just released, like, week, last week. 10 bucks per hours. Oh, wait, the shaders. Incredible. Bro, I'm so stoked with them, like, so crazy. New record, amazing. Every band in holding all the court is amazing. Yeah, like, Gap.
Starting point is 00:09:47 Yeah. Thriving local scene, Gap, holding it down. I mean, Gap. The Lil King. We met him in 2015, and he just was like our TM in Thailand. Yeah. Just took everybody. He's daddy.
Starting point is 00:10:01 Yeah. Yeah. He was daddy in Thailand. Yeah. So something somebody wanted me to say to you was Jang Ahea. Ha ha ha ha. What that? That just means awesome.
Starting point is 00:10:15 A lot of five. Whispers. Fives in there. Jang Ahea. Yeah. Jahia. Some are saying. Can you tell me about Chubby.
Starting point is 00:10:21 vintage Shabby boy vintage yeah it's a gap store yeah it is yeah it's a gap store you're the chubby boy yeah yeah yeah how many of you have vintage stores in the night market in Bangkok we have different store I have one get have one how you all have this much stuff that you can all have separate vintage stuff oh shit I think like trying to steal each other stuff no way no way kidding you buy stuff from him and then you sell it for more who don't know that's yeah clientele's clients I think in Thailand is like kind of big thing from like different things like different stuff like that like nearly big like Japan, Thailand is
Starting point is 00:10:59 crazy with it so I think that market that train market I think we have like store like secondhand vintage and stuff like that I think more than 50 more than 50 50 store in the market in just that one market yeah yeah you're all friends all this kind of the same group people who know each other yeah yeah yeah so gotcha Gotcha. What's the, maybe the craziest thing you've come across that you've sold or you've seen at the market
Starting point is 00:11:27 as far as, like, shirt goes? I think that one time that I walked like fair market, I have the irate, I red shirt, but they fix the side. The tag is XL, but they fix the side like small. Yeah. So I think that time it would be like 2016 or something. Okay.
Starting point is 00:11:48 So I post it. I post this on IG. There's someone, they message me like, hey, I want that. He describes everything like how like the first time this year is lead, some stuff like that. Yeah, yeah. So, okay, okay, I sell it to you now. All right, all right. You know everything more than me.
Starting point is 00:12:02 Okay, you take it. Yeah. That is, I'm buying it for $1. $1. And I think I sell it for maybe like $200. There you go. That's like a lot of profit. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:15 So how close are you guys as friends before Whisper starts? Because this is it like we gotta do a band together guys Yeah Yeah I think like the university Yeah because we are the same university What did you study in university? I'm in the English major class That's what's up
Starting point is 00:12:33 I can tell I'm marketing Marketing well Oh my god That's why the video came up I'm still busy sorry Watch this And you'll see why
Starting point is 00:12:44 Oh I'm so tired in the marsh pit I need energy Whisper Hong Tai Good your energy for more speed Yeah Unbelievable Yeah Wow
Starting point is 00:13:07 Marketing and English And that's time Just like I always hanging out with him Yeah So we just like Talking about the Hardcore music
Starting point is 00:13:15 He taught me a lot About the hardcore music Because I didn't know much About that Yeah so Are you guys best friends Yes Yeah
Starting point is 00:13:21 Oh Really long time Love and hit At the same time Yeah of course You have to Yeah, that's exactly right. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:28 I'm sorry. That's okay. So what? I know, like I said before, you guys are super in, you're like deep into European middle core and stuff. Tell the audience about some of your favorite, like eight thousand bands and stuff like that. Let's start like this. The real big influences on you personally and as Whispers. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:51 Let's start from kickback. Well, yeah, I figure kickback when you get to later because I think you guys are the only band for real i've never believed a band when they say we sound like kickback a hundred percent it's never true yeah you did it absolutely oh yeah yeah we could start there yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah main influence i think like the band like congruress yeah yeah congress yeah like angi with the sun yeah perfect yeah a lot this one yeah for me like a lot the people say like um they love like the lifting with the band some stuff like that but for me angry with the sun the top for me i love
Starting point is 00:14:26 we've been taking risks for it yeah for a long time yeah i fuck a little bit and the band like lynch of time yeah lens of time sentence reprisals yeah i think like the stuff that i interesting is like like they make it like
Starting point is 00:14:42 before the mid-hand call like like real real metal core nowadays so at first i didn't know like they call themselves like mitten core some like mitten hardcore some stuff like that yeah so i realized like oh shit this my shit. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:55 And before that, like, whispers, I think, like, we, at first, we tried to sound right, Kinai. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like, mixed with Kinai, like, Afakhanis, like, 2014.
Starting point is 00:15:09 Yeah. I like that. I like, 2018, like, trust me, like, first time I'm listening, like, a bunch of stuff from the hit 8,000. I don't understand.
Starting point is 00:15:20 Even kickback. Forever war? I don't understand. Like, oh, what the fuck? Why? Why did they need to sing like hi? Too crazy? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:26 Why does he? And then Mike. It's new things. Yeah. Yeah. Mike, you do the best. Your voice is so much like him in the best way. When I was first listening to it fucked me up because I knew you guys had a relationship with Stephen.
Starting point is 00:15:38 Yeah. You know. And I was like, is that him? And then there is a song with him on it. Yeah. And if you don't know, it'll throw you off, you know. It's very, very good. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:47 Where are you finding? How are you sourcing all the European bands? Like, how are you finding them? I have. I have one brother's, like me and him, like, we smoke a lot of weed. Ah. Is that legal there? Yeah, now it's legal.
Starting point is 00:16:03 Now it's legal. Was it at the time? No. No legal. Yeah. So you were smoking a lot of something. Yeah. Oh, sorry.
Starting point is 00:16:10 I'm sorry. Oh. Come on, bro. Yeah. Straight edge. Yeah. And I'm, we in the loom. We smoke a lot of wheat.
Starting point is 00:16:22 And in that time. You still say. Oh, shit. No, it's fine. It's totally fine. In that time, they have, like, blocked spot. Yeah. So we start to listen from the A alphabet.
Starting point is 00:16:32 Media fire. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Mediifier was the share. Yeah. Yeah. From A alphabet to C alphabet.
Starting point is 00:16:39 Like, I think, like, it's a lot of the band from around the world, like, Mexico, Brazil, anything like that. And, yes, that's... Exploring the music. What's interesting, and I'm generalizing here, obviously, because you and your brother are an exception. but I would say generally finding European bands in America
Starting point is 00:16:58 or I should say European bands becoming more popular in America is tough because there's so much here already so it's interesting that you guys being in a foreign place to America are finding another foreign place that's having a hard time I just find that the crossover is fascinating
Starting point is 00:17:15 was it something that drew you to the European thing the 8000 thing or like What was it that you know connected with you so much? Like I think for me like the years that I tried to connect everything is like 2017. Okay, okay. So just by myself, I'll listen, title, oh, listen again.
Starting point is 00:17:38 And like, oh shit, this is a go-mine. This is a fucking goal mind. Why I skip it like, I'm, I'm talking to my barrens like, hey, bro, I'm sorry. Like that time when you show me, I don't understand. But now, now, I get it. It happens, man. Yes. It happens a lot.
Starting point is 00:17:54 Yeah. What are you into, Mike? Me? Yeah, what do you like? I think just stick with him. Okay. And, you know, like, talking about the hardcore music and, like, he taught me a lot about the hardcore music, too.
Starting point is 00:18:07 So if he, like, he likes to listen to that stuff. Yeah. You're in. Yeah. I mean, I'm always in. What do you guys do together outside of Whisper? What's the post? Post practice hangout for whispers.
Starting point is 00:18:25 I think walking in the fear market, they named like Chattoochak in that time, green vintage market, some stuff like that, like hanging around, talk shit. Yeah, that is the way. Jang idea. Just chilling. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:39 Yeah. No, we're good. Yeah, that's cool. Yeah, that's cool. And also, I just, like, my change idea. And also, I just, like, my change. my changer is like when I when I went to Japan for the
Starting point is 00:18:57 Badax Festival. Yeah. To Mailder? Yeah. Yeah. Wow. What was that? So that changed everything. Yeah. Yeah. So you watched Marauder at Blood Axe and yeah. And it's like many Japanese, like many good Japanese band. So after that I just like, yo I want to you know. But Whispers had been a band for several years by then yeah i think would be like 11 years 2014 yeah at your first show yeah yeah you just told me that you covered god's hate yes divine injustice yeah at the same year that daily list the same year at the day list here's the video wow so obviously whispers is my favorite band of all time
Starting point is 00:19:47 yeah uh i gotta give a big shout out yeah to my boy potty wat young yeah paliwat young hey bet Patti Wat Young, yeah. He helps me a lot because he helped me to sing. Party Wat? Yeah, in the Gossay song. You tell me Patti Yung help you sing. Yeah, yeah, yeah, like... Legend, dude, that's my son.
Starting point is 00:20:09 Yeah. It's full circle. Yeah. It's hard to sing it. It really is, man. Your voice changes a bit, I would say, from the first recording to the more recent one. Was that intentional, or did that just happen?
Starting point is 00:20:22 Yeah, it just like, decide to you got older. Oh, you decided. Yeah. So it wasn't like it just naturally progressed. You were like, I'm going to sound. I'm going to sound like that's hard. It's hard to do.
Starting point is 00:20:32 That is hard to do. Yeah. That's cool. Is it more comfortable for you to sing now? Yes. Yes. Okay. It's like, and it's fit in for our music now.
Starting point is 00:20:41 Yeah. So it's like if it's good for the band, good for our music, I like to, you know, like make it perfect. Okay. Yeah. Make it fit. Yeah. It's like fit. It's like it.
Starting point is 00:20:53 guitar tone or something. Absolutely. You want it to fit the music. And it's crazy because even with your new, we'll call it the new voice, you have a range within there where there's some lines where you sound fucking crazy. Thank you. You know, it's awesome. It's really cool.
Starting point is 00:21:07 I think it fits really well. Narak Bandin, is that it? Yeah. How about it said? Did I say it wrong? Nauru. Narok. Nalop.
Starting point is 00:21:14 Bonin. Naluk. Yeah. Yeah. Tell me. Exactly. Tell me about writing that record and how you've progressed since then. Like after the but-acted Marauders,
Starting point is 00:21:27 we come back, I think we had, in 2018, we released the demo, we opened act for Turnstile. Yeah, in 2018. Yeah. So you were like, okay, we got this show, we gotta get this demo to get it. Yeah, yeah. Sometimes you need something to make it happen.
Starting point is 00:21:47 2016, we bake up the band because it's my last year. in University and really busy you gotta learn how to market yeah I'm not gonna lie like that year I'm really
Starting point is 00:22:04 fuck and bad like yeah yeah a lot of things to do like oh shit so yeah I from the at first I never thinking like we're gonna come back
Starting point is 00:22:13 yeah so Whispers was done yeah the 2006 it wasn't even just like I need a year it was you're done I think like just that years that
Starting point is 00:22:21 just take a baby Yeah, take a break. Okay, good, good. And in 2018, like, early, one, he's like, hey, bro, let's come back. Let's do something, let's do some shit. You know why? Straight-edge. Yeah, that's it.
Starting point is 00:22:40 Yeah. Clear mind. Yeah. That's why. We have to take a break. I'm talking to him, like, hey, if we come back, I need to be, like, more heavier. Like I need to like like like crazy stuff. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:55 You can tell from the intro. Yeah. On the record, like, okay, these guys know what they're doing. Because that demo, 2018, is the way become like, Nalok Pondin. Yeah, it was the, okay, we like this style. Yeah, we made something different from the, you know, first one. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:12 What I do like this. I'm thinking I love kickback. I love murders. I love, um, all war. Yeah. So what I think is like, okay, gonna start, yeah. And you can first read this, da-na-na-na. I was like, I love it.
Starting point is 00:23:30 Yeah, that's it. That's it. They got me. Stephen away like, hey. That's my riff. He's been doing that to me for a while. Yeah, too, too. We're doing the same thing.
Starting point is 00:23:43 Yeah. I'm not going to like I say, hey, I love it. I don't care. Yeah. I take it. Yeah. What are your goals in 2018 when Whisper starts over? Are you even thinking that years down the road you'll be touring America?
Starting point is 00:23:58 Or is it just play Bangkok? Yeah. Have fun. Or is it play Blood Axe because you were inspired? Yeah. Like what? We're never thinking about anything like going to be touring the state, Europeans, or anything like that.
Starting point is 00:24:11 It's just having fun with a bunch of friends in the band. Yeah. That's it. No plans. No plan. That's the way. That's why it works. That's why it works.
Starting point is 00:24:19 That's why it's absolutely right. That's why it worked. Yeah. So during the COVID time, so we have to, you know, like create our music. Yeah. Yeah. On the COVID time. So we have much time to, you know, talking.
Starting point is 00:24:34 Yeah. And how did Bangkok change during COVID? Yeah. Yeah. More people. I think. After. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:42 Before that. But before. It's like not much. How many people at the average Whisper show from 2018 to 2020? Um, I think we should have like one show they have like 10 people. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:57 It's all my friend. Yeah. It's all my friend like that. And that's, after that I think 100 or 150. Yeah. And that's a lot. Yeah. That's a lot.
Starting point is 00:25:05 Yeah. And it's like you're not having American bands there every weekend. This is this is like full Bangkok. Yeah. That's right. Yeah. And you created a place where now like we're all dying to go there. We want to go there so bad.
Starting point is 00:25:19 Yeah. And that's through your persistence in your work and your being cool and liking cool shit. Yeah. How do the Bangkok old heads, like the old guys who have been around a while, look at Whispers? How do they, are they proud of you? Yeah. Yeah. They should be.
Starting point is 00:25:36 Yeah, they should be. Yeah. Is Whispers the first Bangkok band to do a lot of these things? Yes. I think so. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:47 Pretty cool. Yeah. I cannot believe that It's gonna happen to my life time We always respect them That's the attitude Yeah I mean I can't think of another one
Starting point is 00:25:56 Since we've been around You know Yeah So it makes total sense It's awesome Can you tell me about Relax time Sounds like something I'd like
Starting point is 00:26:04 Um Maybe Thai massage Oh Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah

Starting point is 00:26:23 this is a different one. Can you tell me about designing this shirt? Yeah. What happened with this one? Can I have a look? Like straight diving, I think. Stage diving? Yeah. Who's diving? I think it's the singers.
Starting point is 00:26:41 Is Evan? Yeah. It's the singer. Oh. Yeah. Who is designed? Gap must have designed it. Yeah, Gap made it. Oh, can you open that for him? Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:26:52 Open flame. It's a heavy door. You can pull a gap. There we go. Yeah. It right into that microphone. Talking to that microphone. Okay, that shirt.
Starting point is 00:27:06 Yeah. I'm just like, as I was making a shirt, this is like the show from Speed Show. Yeah. Yeah. In Bangkok, when Whisper played with them. and the stay diving guy he's Elvin
Starting point is 00:27:20 he's the guy from Destiny the band from Singapore okay it's look fucking amazing yeah it's a sick ass die yeah it's just like oh a shitty photo could be on a shirt and then I'm making a new logo
Starting point is 00:27:31 for them to put in the front like is this papyrus font I do it from taffant oh okay all the shirt yeah I see it
Starting point is 00:27:42 that's awesome yeah that's good I got specifically asked to ask you about this shirt. Yeah, that's it. Thank you, Gap. Gap. What a great guy. Legend. Daddy. Daddy. Thank you, Gap. Thank you, Gap. Thank you, Gap.
Starting point is 00:27:57 All right. So, Stefan from Kickback, tell me some stories. I've never met him. Obviously, I've been, I'm like, the, me and Taylor are, like, the first two kickback fans in America, it seems. Tell me some stories. Haven't met him. How do you get it introduced to him? and what has your experience been with him? He has a bunch of friends in Bangkok, Thailand. What I know is like he be there like maybe 1998, like first time he come and like he keep coming. Like when I first go like go to hardcore scene,
Starting point is 00:28:33 I didn't know that is Stephen from kickback. Yeah, I didn't know like, oh shit. And then I think like maybe when we released like Narok Bandin. It's like it's the time we're connecting together. Yeah. And like we're talking about that. So you showed a bunch of those riffs.
Starting point is 00:28:51 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And you said we didn't, you know, like hanging out. But you'd seen him around. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:58 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. For me like as as a Thai people like, we're gonna keep like some space for like own people. Like oh, like, eh, just say hi. And they like, uh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:13 Sure. Yes, some stuff like that. And I think the show that maybe in Lido, we have like, we sit and talk about like this, that, that, that. I think that is the day that we're connecting. Wow. Yeah. So was there a moment where you're sitting across a table from him?
Starting point is 00:29:33 Yeah. And he's like, yeah, that was my band. And he, you're right. You're right. He gave me a lot of the story. Like, oh, what happened in the past? Like, oh, what we do? what he does
Starting point is 00:29:43 like how he comes like four-e-war thing some stuff like that I'm like oh remember it copy but like my secret spike
Starting point is 00:29:52 does he does he mash hard in Thailand oh one time they have a show they swing the letters
Starting point is 00:30:03 a ladder yeah yeah and hit the hate so that guy like get stitching maybe 40 40
Starting point is 00:30:11 yeah yeah I think five Five, five, five, five. So scary. Yeah. Yeah. I think that is the last time that I see him mush.
Starting point is 00:30:21 Okay, okay. The latter incident was maybe the last time. No, but I, you're tired of TLC. I remember the one time that he sing with us, and he just like punched the monitor, the speaker, and he's like, broke his hand. That'll do it. He'll do it every time.
Starting point is 00:30:34 Because he's, hey, like, he feel it. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And you look at any old kickback video. You see there's that video of him, there's a guy watching. watching like with his he's watching the pit and stephen rap yeah yeah yeah and keep singing and the guy's

Starting point is 00:34:24 Tell me about meeting him. Your early impressions of him and how your relationship has grown since. I think for me, that is my fourth of five show. And in that time, my family is. it's like not have like good money so i message to him like hey gab do you have anything that i can't help to be at the show like carry some stuff sure yeah yeah stage i'm down i'm down to do that he said like yeah just come over i'm kind of looking something that you can do and enjoy the show i like okay thank you so much oh yeah yeah that is the way like and he showed me a lot of

Starting point is 00:35:20 That is the way that I'm stuck. Yeah. How about Gap's relationship with you, Mike? So I just quit the old band and then they just hanging out with them and all my friends. I asked to the drummer and Oleg and me. So I just start to, went to the, local hardcore show and I made Gap because Gap is always you know like made a local
Starting point is 00:35:45 hardcore show in Bangkok yeah and not just only the local hardcore show the international hardcore show too yeah yeah so yeah he's bringing international bands all the time yeah so I just we're working on a Gap I swear one day so I brought a ticket yeah from the his old store in the other J. J.J. market so that's why I And after that, I always hang out over there and I, you know, like... Become a friend. Yeah. Just over time.
Starting point is 00:36:15 Yeah. So does he encourage Whispers to start and do more once you guys start playing? Yes. Actually, because he's the guy who pushing out our first demo. Yeah. On the Holy Cross, too. Yeah. That is everything.

Yeah. How is the show in Vietnam? So good. How many people would you say?
Starting point is 00:37:39 I think it would be like 80 to 100. Dude. Yeah. Let's go to Vietnam. Hardcore is the coolest thing. That sounds awesome. I think nowadays it's become bigger. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:37:50 Because like they have like a lot of band in Vietnam now. Yeah. So Vietnam has a thriving local hardcore scene. Yeah. I think especially in Ho Chimen. In Ho Chimen. Do you know of any bands off the top of your head? Um, district 1.05.
Starting point is 00:38:09 District 105? Yeah. That's sick. Hey, it's awesome. We're going to check that out. Oh, I forgot the name. Incredible. They have one like band. They sound so good.

That's a lot. It's a lot, right? China, asking Gap is so funny. I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
Starting point is 00:39:20 Where in China? That is here for the answer. Where in China did you play? In Guangzhou, Sun Quan. At last, the last one is Ningbo. Oh shit. So you've played a lot of China. Yeah, I think we'd be like three times already.
Starting point is 00:39:34 I think if you guys have a shame go to China I would love to I would love to bro so crazy so good everything there's so good so since you started touring you're playing all these in Asian countries
Starting point is 00:39:46 with these thriving local scenes how is Whispers response and all of them like is every show yeah are they treating you like Whispers is here we gotta show up
Starting point is 00:39:57 Are they beating ass Every show I think go crazy Yeah yeah yeah we got like four shows in Indonesia too you know you can make a tour in yeah yeah yeah and the scene that is really good yeah bro like Indonesia I think it's same as the
Starting point is 00:40:16 state for me I mean like the big you can make it like full tour a full tour like 15 shows oh wow wow yeah it's really really big and there's the got style I think the band like like pain off to you guys got hate yeah yeah If you're going to be like a killing face. They've been asking us for forever. Indonesia and Malaysia have asked the most. So one day I swear, Indonesia and Malaysia, it'll happen. But Bangkok.
Starting point is 00:40:48 Bangkok. Bangkok. Bangkok first. Please. Please. Please. Have you done a European tour? Yes.
Starting point is 00:40:54 Was it with speed? Yes. With the first one world? Yeah. Yeah. Speed like question ended. I mean, that's an incredible tour. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:02 How was that? And was that when your relationship with Speed started? No, I think because the way to start, because Jim, he in the band like Enlis High. Like he toured in Bangkok and everyone here's like chill, make friends, take care. He connected. Yeah. And Deco, he's loud. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:27 He loud, but he understands Thai. Oh, really? He speaks Thai. Like, every time when we were on tours. like we just try to speak tight to him and like he understands and yeah that's fun yeah yeah and and and then when they have like speed and we just connect yeah we just connect like that yeah and they've like really taken good care of you guys yes yes probably between them and you or how i heard about whispers yeah that's it good segue by the way yeah yeah first time in the bus
Starting point is 00:41:57 tour you know yeah yeah yeah yeah i was gonna ask yeah yeah so that was on the bus yeah isn't that crazy Good. It's so good. It's so much. Yeah. It's a little bit. I'll still be seeing that bunks. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:07 Yeah. Where is someplace in Europe. Like, give me a couple stories from Europe. I'm just fascinated to hear about a Thai hardcore band touring Europe. Oh. What was the reception like? I think from, because you know me, like, I'm stuck with the Europeans. You love.
Starting point is 00:42:26 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Belgium. Belgium. I met Lenny. Lenny from sectors and he gave me a bunch of the stuff like hit 8000 book scene that I'm still the good bum to say that because I'm I'm fucking stuck I never thinking about I kind of
Starting point is 00:42:43 get it in my hand and yeah thank you Lenny and the show in Pallis is really good show in Paris yeah yeah you guys are basically a French man yeah yeah so they treated you like that is the show we the last the last song we bring headbasser we To cover that FOIA war, and his intro is the last one. Headbasa, intro, fucking crazy. Yeah. They made for the most bit. Yeah. Great band.
Starting point is 00:43:12 Great European band. Yeah. Yeah. Yomala. Yomala. Incredible record. Thank you, sir. The 2024 EP of the year at the Hardlaw Awards.
Starting point is 00:43:24 Tell me about writing this record. This is like the kind of the turning point for whispers. Yeah. American audiences really took it, understood it, you've now been here twice. Tell me all about this record. This album, we spent many years to do it. At first I got to give cadet to Nung. He is the guy, like, the way I do, I have, when I think, when I have the riff in my head,
Starting point is 00:43:54 I record, like, phone. Yeah. And sent to him. And he translates it. He got to be like, I proof, oh, this one, good. okay you keep it he's the producer yeah yeah yeah he knows everything so that the song that we have the stephen sing on it like the the rastak that yeah yeah so we're just thinking like oh we should have something like that as montfier songs yeah yeah not just we just spoke now crazy but it's like yeah the
Starting point is 00:44:22 evolution is yeah right the first record to now it's like a completely different band but but but still natural evolution yes yes change you you you you figured out your identity yeah we just talked here's and then like we finished jamming he come back to home i think like he's saying that song on maybe 3 a.m or 4 a m yeah yeah he like stay up like all night and like hey i finish that yeah and when i listen it like bro this is fucking massive yeah and he said to me like i don't know what what you think but i need stephen to sing on it and when i saying i send that whole song to stephen to stephen just one minute
Starting point is 00:45:02 just one minute he said you made a song for me do you do you make a song for me it's my fucking song he knew yeah I mean when I heard it wow I thought oh they made a song for him
Starting point is 00:45:13 yeah at first I didn't know like it's gonna become like this like but when it finished it's fucking crazy did he sing it with you at the record release yes yes at first we penned to do like only one last time
Starting point is 00:45:29 I mean like that show delete show for that song. Yeah, that's it. Just only one time, yeah. Yeah. That's it. Wow. No more.
Starting point is 00:45:36 That's awesome. Yeah. That's really cool. But do you still play it? No. No. Only for a second. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:42 It's on your, you know, top 10 on Spotify. Yeah, pretty cool. It's pretty cool. No way. Yeah. I kind of believe that. Oh, shit. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:51 So you know how he wrote that song at three or four in the morning? I think we finished like jamming like 11 p.m. Yeah. And he's still like. Still riffing? Yeah. He'll come back home. You know why.
Starting point is 00:46:03 Straightish. Straightish. Clear mind. Yeah. That's what we do. Yeah. And yeah, we used to come like that. Who?
Starting point is 00:46:13 Okay. This is kind of, this is the other record, I believe. But a choice to survive. There's a really weird rhythm. Yeah. In that song. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:24 It's a weird. It throws me off. Yeah. Love it. Who came up with that. I just want to know. This guy. You're kidding me.
Starting point is 00:46:29 Yeah. He's a. This guy. Actually, it's not like that, but he decided to. Yeah. Oh, change it. I think only one song that have only one version is retribution. Okay.
Starting point is 00:46:41 Yeah. When arriving down, I sent him to him, he said, keep it. Keep it like that. Cool. I don't change it. I need a solo at the last part. I like it. Just keep it simple like that.
Starting point is 00:46:52 Awesome. But like all the song, okay, just say like this, retribution and Yomalogue, only have one version. Wow. The list of that, maybe four version, four, five version. Those are the best songs, though, is when you tinker and slowly work together, collaborative. Yeah, and he's genius to making that weird rhythm. Yeah, it's a weird, because I'm always waiting to switch to just four, four.
Starting point is 00:47:16 But instead, it gives it this identifying thing where you go, oh, that's that song. And it's in my head. Yeah. Thanks. Very good. You guys are good. Yeah. Thank you. Tell me about working with Flat Spot on that record.
Starting point is 00:47:27 How did that come about? I think Jem is the guy who. tried to connect me with a flat spot. We know Liggy for many years because he toured with the Backtrack in Thailand. Three times in Bangkok. Three times? Yeah. Backtrack was kind of the band of our era that showed us you could do that.
Starting point is 00:47:47 Yeah. And James said like, I think you should go with the fast spot. Yeah. And then we talking how it's going to happen, some stuff like that. And Jim is like fully 100%. fully 100% pushing us to the first spot So speed has Gem and Speed in particular
Starting point is 00:48:07 have looked out for you guys in more ways than people know Yeah Yeah Including taking you on your first U.S. tour Yes, you're right Tell me all about this tour
Starting point is 00:48:17 Yeah Oh first U.S. tours So crazy Yeah Yeah And Canada, right? Oh yeah Yeah
Starting point is 00:48:23 The thing that killed me is like Jet Lag Like Were you sleepy boy The whole tour? Kaida. How about you, Mike? How'd you do with jet lag and stuff?
Starting point is 00:48:34 I don't know, just sleep. Yeah. Yeah. Just sleep and then eat some food. Yeah. Speaking of which. Well, we'll get there. I want to talk about the actual tour.
Starting point is 00:48:45 What are some shows that are memorable to you, some experiences, just like being with the speed guys for that amount of time? Yeah. Like, we start from Canada and like... Western Canada. Yeah. Western Canada. So you flew to Western Canada?

Starting point is 00:51:00 What do you want the future of Whispers to be? Are you guys kind of going for it full time other than the vintage stores at night? Yeah, from now, I think we're thinking about maybe like do like full time if possible. Yeah. Because like touring, making music. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:51:22 Yeah, the best. Yeah. New life for me. Yeah. Yeah. I don't know I'm gonna do it like like how long, but I'm trying to do my best, like in every tour. Yeah, that's it.
Starting point is 00:51:36 So I want to keep it going in every year. Yeah. And what's up? That's kind of, you have an English degree. That's an incredible use of your English degree is being the singer of a band internationally. Yeah. And connecting with people in ways that they may not think. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:51:51 It's still difficult. Yeah. Of course. But fine. You're doing great. You're doing much better than we wouldn't tie. 100%. Tell me about Ty.
Starting point is 00:52:00 Downfest because that was your first American hardcore festival that he played. That was where we finally met that day. That day. Beautiful. Yeah. Beautiful day. Yes. Starting point is 01:02:15 No sleep. Who's the tour in Australia with? Speed. Oh. Yeah. So that'll be pretty good. Yeah. And feel the pin.
Starting point is 01:02:23 Yeah. Yeah. Awesome. So you guys are like truly flying the flag around the world for Bangkok hardcore, for Thailand hardcore, for the first time, really for any band on this scale, does that responsibility weigh on you,
Starting point is 01:02:39 or are you just excited to be doing it? Yeah, excited, really excited, yeah. Happen bought? Yeah, yeah. You try not to think about the first band ever for me, you know. It's only a positive thing. It's the best, most positive things. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:02:53 And you're the right group of guys to do it because you're the best. Thanks. Well, it just goes to show, we've talked about this so often it's the same thing with speed yeah they were the guys going to all the shows and doing bands and you were the guys in the pit
Starting point is 01:03:07 your guys in the pit become the guys on the stage it's the coolest thing ever yes and the only music form really where that happens yeah hardcore the only place for that happens yeah yeah that's why I love hardcore yeah it's hardcore the best music in the world speaking of which

Starting point is 01:05:33 Because he's... I love kickback, no surrender too. Yeah. Dying beat that you show me, leave a little. Oh yeah, but I forgot it. Yeah. Take my soul.
Starting point is 01:05:43 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:05:47 Yeah. He showed me that. I like, I never heard of it. It's the best. Yeah. It's good. I think upstate, I've stayed.
Starting point is 01:05:52 I've stayed hardcore. Yeah. It's insane. Yeah. It makes no sense. Makes no sense. Exactly. All, all, all world.
Starting point is 01:05:59 Two. To the end of the line, fucking good. Oh, that's the one. We're the same, you know what I mean? Fuck it, the band. I love the one, the main order with 80 Sutton. Oh, the demo, that's the EP is the best for me. Interesting.
Starting point is 01:06:17 I love Save Mysore is the best. Yeah. Okay. All the year. Yeah. And the last part is fucking crazy for me. Fucking hard. I love it.
Starting point is 01:06:29 Those are great. I mean, those were great answers. Yeah. Last thing before we get to our Patreon Q&A. Are you guys superstitious at all? Like about ghosts and stuff in Thailand? When I was young, I'm really scared. Not now.
Starting point is 01:06:47 Me too. Yeah, I'm now. I'm more scared now. Like, in the state, this is weird for me. Like, in the state, like, it's too dark. I can walk. But in Thailand, like, fucking dry. I don't want to walk.
Starting point is 01:07:01 Really? I feel like, some, it's like, it's some, like, people is gonna walk past something like that?
Starting point is 01:07:06 Well, we have, crazy night people here, too. Yeah. Are there ghosts in Thailand? Like crazy, like Thailand? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:07:14 Culturally, do you believe in ghosts? Yeah, in the north. Like, in the north. My girlfriend's hometown, they believe in ghosts.
Starting point is 01:07:20 They don't pay for God or anything. They just pay for God. Just ghosts. Yeah. Just ghosts. Yeah. Like behind her house,
Starting point is 01:07:29 got the, A ghost house to... A ghost house? Yeah, for ghost. Like, um... Oh, it's for celebrity. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:07:36 Oh, yeah. Like a shrine? You believe in them? Sometimes. Sometimes. Yeah. When it's night and you're taking the trash. When I have to turn the light off, I believe in ghosts.
Starting point is 01:07:46 Yeah. That's true. I think... The daylight, I don't believe in ghosts. In Thailand, they really love to listen about the ghost story. Yeah. They have like... Alainavi?
Starting point is 01:07:58 The shock? The shock. The shock. It's like, like, um, like, um, podcast and stuff. Oh, okay. And like, the people we call, call there and, like, give the story about the ghost. Some is good. Some is like, mm.
Starting point is 01:08:10 Yeah. That's kind of the first few episodes of Hardlora. It's weird. Somebody just, like, got crammed when you sleep. Yeah. They believe it's good. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:08:18 Yeah. Yeah. Like, ghost trying to possess you. Yeah. At night. Have you ever been possessed? No, not yet. Not yet.
Starting point is 01:08:26 Maybe. Maybe. Maybe. Maybe. Maybe. Maybe. You never know. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:08:29 Yeah, very haunted. You have no-go stories? I have. Mike, give me your story. Like, it's something like that. Like, when I was young, like, I, I slept. And it's like, when I woke up, my grandmother, like, told me about why you just, like, sleep like this. Like a dead body, something like that.
Starting point is 01:08:55 Uh-huh. And it's like, when I was asleep, I'm dreaming about some, you know, some woman, like want to, you know, like, eat me, something like that. Yeah, should get you. Yeah. You better be careful. And it's really scary. So you were praying in your sleep to keep away?
Starting point is 01:09:15 Yeah, like this. Like, when you die in, in, for Thai people, when you die, you have to do it like this. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Interesting. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:09:27 I think, I think this, that's, this that happened same thing with me when I was young too I mean because um the cultures the cultures about the ghost story is in the hate yeah yeah and I think when I sleep I'm like I feel like I cannot move I like I feel like I feel like oh and I see like some people try to walk up to my in in my homes like second six second four I see the feet like cover with the butt yeah yeah that's the sleep paralysis he says I want to get out. I want to get out from that dreams.
Starting point is 01:10:01 But I realize, like, when I get out, like, Yeah, yeah. You ever, when you're in that state, do you ever hear a loud bang? Yeah. The noise, you hear banging. Yeah. Because when my mom, when she, when she sees me,
Starting point is 01:10:14 she's cheating like, I'm like shaking. Because, no, I see someone. There's someone. Yeah. My mom, like, no. You're stupid. Thai ghost culture is crazy. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:10:26 That's good enough. That's what I wanted to know. A lot of story. Is he silly to all of you? Are you all like always so silly? Yeah, I'm the best silly. Yeah, I'm the best silly. Who cares?
Starting point is 01:10:39 I'm the best. Yeah. I agree. Yeah. He's the best silly. Yeah, thank you. 100%. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:10:45 All right. We've got some Patreon questions now. We're going to wind it down. Here we go. First question. What's the mindset when coming up with these evil-ass riffs? This was Cody. What's the mind?
Starting point is 01:10:58 What are you thinking when you're writing these scary riffs? Oh. Mosh Pit? Yeah. Mosh Pit is the point, the whole thing. And like, you know, like I said, like I love this band, this band, this man, this man. Yeah. That's it.
