You know I love a good story from history, especially the kind that peels back the layers
and asks, wait, why didn't we talk about this sooner? That's why I'm excited to present the trailer
of The Seaward podcast. The Seaward is a smart, funny, and deeply moving podcast hosted by
writers Lena Denham and Alyssa Bennett. In every episode, they explore the lives of women throughout
history who were branded with one word. Crazy. Originally behind a paywall, this is the first time
the podcast is available on all major podcast platforms. These stories are bold, surprising, and they
deeply resonate. As you enjoy this trailer, be sure to search for full episodes of The Sea Word,
because history isn't just what happened. It's how we talk about it.
Hi, it's Lena. A few years ago, I was busy hosting a podcast called The Sea Word with my
dearest friend and historian of bad behavior, Alyssa Bennett. What is up? We loved making this show
so much. But at the time, it was only available behind a paywall. Now, we're breaking her free baby,
much like all of the greatest women in history who have dug themselves out of jail. We are bringing
her out of the vault and into your hearts. It will be as though we are all returning to high
school together after decades away to open up a time capsule. But instead of finding cigarette butts,
old mixtapes, and security footage of me eating lunch alone in the stairway.
We're going to be rediscovering the stories of women's society dismissed by calling them mad, sad, or just plain bad.
These stories feel as relevant now as they did when we first recorded them, because I have a secret.
Nothing changes for women.
But if you're new to the Seward, it's a chat show about women whose society is called Crazy.
It's a tale as old as time and maybe as recent as yesterday for some of you, Lena.
Oh, I would know nothing about that.
Some of the women whose stories we explore include, but are not limited to.
Robin Givens. Lindsay Lohan.
Mariah Carey.
China.
Journalist Janet Cook, the only person to ever return a Pulitzer Prize.
Winona Ryder, the only person ever to steal a Mark Jacobs cardigan.
Just kidding, we've all done it.
Then so, so, so many more.
Because unfortunately, our culture is addicted to calling women crazy.
And if you think it's stopped, it has it.
Just try doing something lightly crazy.
But Alyssa and I, we never, ever, ever, ever.
will. We'll never call you crazy. Listen to and follow the C-word with Lena Dunham and
Elizabeth Bennett, available wherever you get your podcasts.
