And of course, we'll have it on our website at alliances.com.
Welcome to the show, David Brown, Chairman and CEO of Actives.
Thanks, David. It's great to be here.
So how you're building this team, and we're going to talk about Actives. So let's get an
understanding about the company itself. So how did you get involved with it and becoming the CEO?
Well, that's a bit of a long story.
I'm actually a recovering lawyer by training, if you can believe it.
And I've been in the nutritional supplement industry for about 25 years now at various
places, first as a lawyer, then as a CEO.
And I started this company three years ago with some former team members that had helped
me have a tremendous success at a previous company.
And we decided we wanted to give it another go. And that's how Actives came to be.
So what was the motivation of continuing in the nutrition business and being able to have really
the opportunity of your company of helping so many? Well, you know, I realized a long time ago
that I wasn't going to be 6'4 with a full head of hair. So I had to focus on the things I could control. And there's a ton of things that we can do that science has led us to understand
that we can control at the very genetic level. And by virtue of being in the industry so long,
I know a lot of great researchers, great scientists that have created great products
that nobody knows about that need to be out there in people's hands to improve their
health at the very genetic level.
Now, there's two parts of this company.
One is helping others be healthy with the supplements and that.
And then talk about, too, the other part of the business where people can actually build their business.
Sure.
Well, as we started this company, we had to decide what sales channel we were going to use.
I've had great experience in retail selling to Costco and Walmart and GNCs and whatnot.
But these products are a little bit different.
If I told you that there was something in one of our products called Genomics that could reduce oxidative stress,
which is free radical damage linked to 200 diseases, you might think that's pretty impressive.
But you'd also understand why a GNC clerk probably wouldn't tell you that whole story. So we needed to go direct to people.
And so instead of spending millions of dollars of advertising, we pass that along and help people
create their own business opportunity, create their own distributorships at a time when people
are looking in this pandemic, not only to increase their health, but to have more security at home with their income. And so we've been able to provide a
great business opportunity for tens of thousands of people. And again, we have with us David Brown,
the CEO of Actives. You can reach him at getactive.actives, with a Z. That's getactive.actives.com.
Again, you're listening and watching me, David Kogan,
host of the Alliances Hero Show. And we'll also have it on our website at alliances.com. That's
E-L-I-A-N-C-E-S.com. All right. Well, I'm sure, David, you know that some of the questions that
our listeners and viewers will have is, talk to me though about what's the science behind it,
what research supports your products. And also our our listeners want to know, what are some of your most popular type products?
Sure.
Well, you know, nowadays, with COVID-19 and the pandemic, people are worried about increasing
the strength of their immune system.
And we also know that inflammation is tied to a lot of disease states, the big guys like cancer and diabetes and heart disease, but also other things, macular degeneration and even neurological disorders.
So we have products that upregulate gene expression to strengthen the immune system, that downregulate inflammatory genes called cytokines.
One of the products is called OptiMend.
And a lot of people have heard
about turmeric and curcumin. They probably are cooked with turmeric. They probably know that
in Indian medicine, Ayurvedic medicine has been used for as an anti-pain and anti-inflammatory
relief agent for a long time. And in fact, if you go online, you'll find literally hundreds of
thousands of studies about that ingredient,
but almost all of them end with the same thing, that it's a large molecule not easily absorbed
by the body. So what we've done is taken a well-tested curcumin, curcuminoid, what it's
called, and we've put it into a patented process that actually takes one molecule of curcumin,
puts it in another molecule of something called cyclodextrin,
and the end result is it makes it much more absorbable by the body. So people notice that pain relief right away. How did you learn so much about the industry and all the terms and
the science and all of that? Well, I'm not a doctor, but I play one on TV. But, you know,
I just, I'm an old guy, David. I've been around for a long time. And like I say, the science fascinates me.
When I think of one of our products called Link, we call it Link because of what's called
the connection between the gut and the brain.
Did you know that sometimes the gut is called the second brain?
Because our gut or GI tract has as many neurons or brain cells as a dog has.
So it's a really smart thing that we don't take very good care of.
But increasingly, we understand that a lot of disease and a lot of even neurological issues
like autism, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's actually begins in the gut. So our product contains
something called butyric acid, which is a short chain fatty acid, again, delivered in a novel,
proprietary way that helps the stomach lining heal. It actually creates
new neurons and it upregulates the immune system. About 75% of our immune system resides in our gut.
And so it's really important to have great gut health. And so it's been a wonderful process to
get to know scientists, researchers, and the cutting edge research behind our products.
Now, David, you look like a very healthy guy. Which supplements are you taking?
Well, I'll tell you what, I would never sell anything that I don't take myself. So I take
genomics to reduce oxidative stress, which is the number one key in aging. If you can reduce
oxidative stress, that's a good thing. Downregulate, you know, anti-inflammation,
that's a good thing. I take Link for better gut-brain connection. You know, I don't have
serious conditions, but for me, I noticed that my digestive system is better, and it actually
helps reduce what we all kind of deal with as we get older in brain fog. And then I like to work
out. Today, I lifted weights, ran for a few miles, and at my age, I get a little sore. So OptiMEN comes to the rescue and helps me deal with those aches and pains.
We're getting some questions that were submitted, people that want, you know,
they want to know and stuff is to talk about what time we have left about the business end of it,
of how someone can, you said, become a distributor, become a distributorship. How does that work?
And what's involved with that?
Well, these days there's about, I think, 50% of people in the U.S. are looking for a side hustle,
something to help them get more money. And they want it to be something that's profitable and,
for the most part, doesn't take a lot of money. And the barrier to entry for us is very low.
People could get started actually for free or as low as 50 bucks. And they can go to the website actives.com or getactive.actives.com. And there they can sign
up. They can try our products and find out more information. And then most importantly,
they can plug into the system. It's kind of like Ray Kroc said with McDonald's franchisees,
you're in business for yourself, but not by yourself. So when people join Actives, they become part of a very vibrant community where we provide
training, we provide mentorship, and we provide groups of like-minded people to be there and
support you every step of the way so that you can be like Christina Godoy in Sacramento,
California, who's a single mother of two, a Colombian immigrant, and has totally
changed her life by virtue of not only the health benefits of the products, but more importantly for
her, the business aspect. All right, so we're going to do a little snooping now, David. We're
in your office. Tell me something that's unique because I see some things, those that are viewers
can certainly see some, we see some things in the background and all that. What's something unique
or something you enjoy in your office?
Well, I'll tell you what.
You can see the samurai warrior back there.
I speak Japanese.
I've spent a lot of time in Japan. And I found him in an underground pawn shop in Kobe, Japan, about 30 years ago.
And he's been my trusted companion ever since then in every office I've ever been in.
You notice he's got a shield and he's got a sword.
And he's got a hairdo that kind of looks like mine. So I like him for that reason as well.
But that's something that's pretty unique in the office. Excellent. Well, David, you've led
incredible teams. You continue to lead and helping others both with supplements and being able for
them to go into business. That's a hero. Make sure David Brown, CEO of ACTIV.
Make sure you go to getactive.activz.com.
