She's a mentor.
She was co-author of Rich Dad, Poor Dad, and you could reach her at personalsuccessequation.com.
Sharon, welcome to the show.
I am so delighted to be with you.
Thank you so much.
I'm absolutely thrilled to see you again, David.
Sharon, how many
books have you written now? 26. This is Exit Rich is my 26th book. 26 books, and we're going to talk
about Exit Rich here in a moment, but how do you come up with so much to write? Well, usually I get
frustrated about something that people are doing wrong or something that they don't understand, And it kind of like triggers. And when I get mad, I do something
about it. And I sit down and write a book. I'm really an entrepreneur at heart, David.
Books are my medium that I use, but I love helping build the businesses around them
and help people create their businesses. So my passion is education, educating people what they
need to do to get from where they are to where they deserve to be. And I do that most, I do a lot of podcasts like this. I do a lot of interviews. I do a lot of
online programs, but books are really the strongest medium to get that education into people's hands.
What type of skillset does it take though to concentrate, to actually start, right? Because
we've interviewed a variety of authors,
but to actually start and then do it. And then again, with you creating now 26 books, like
talk to us about, is it just being fed to you and you're just the medium that's writing it
on the paper? I mean, talk to us about the details of that. Well, sometimes that's exactly what
happens, David, what I do. And every author is going to give you a different answer. For me, I can't, a lot of people say I
do an hour a morning, every morning. I can't do that. I have to go somewhere and just escape and
focus and kind of dive into what I want to write, turn off the phone, everything just by myself,
usually at the ocean. So I get that food for my soul and I go deep dive into
something for three or four days. And then I walk away from it for a while and come back in and I'll
read it and I go, wow, that was pretty good, Sharon. And then the next one's like, what were
you thinking? But again, it allows me to get a fresh mind, a fresh look. And it's always, I go
with the start with the end in mind. What is the, you know, what's the final message I want somebody to have?
And then I kind of reverse engineer.
What are the steps to get there?
What are the stories that go along with those steps?
Sharon, what does rich mean to you?
Well, rich is a measurement tool for success.
But when I talk about richness, I think about my definition of success is how you feel about yourself when you look in the mirror.
And it doesn't really have anything to do with bank accounts.
It's more about who you are and do you contribute and do you add value to people's lives.
Now, when it comes to money, it's a lot easier to be rich than to be poor.
It gives you a lot more options and opportunities.
But making a lot of money just brings out more of who you truly are. And if you're there to, if you're on this earth to give and to help
other people, the money's going to help you do that even at a greater level.
And so was your first book being the co-author of Rich Dad, Poor Dad?
That was my first book in this topic. I actually started and grew, helped the inventor of the first talking
children's book grow around the world. And the book with sound strips down the side.
And then I wrote several of those books, the children's books for that. So I wrote books.
I just had not written a book on money and success. Rich Dad, Poor Dad was the first one we wrote.
All right. And now your latest book, Exit Rich.
Talk to us about the highlights of that, what you want people to gain from reading it.
Well, so most people, I asked the question, David, when you start a business,
do you start a business so you have to work until the day you die? Are you starting a business to
build a financial foundation for yourself and your family
so that you can get your time back and enjoy life? Everybody's answer is the second one,
but the vast majority of people don't build their business that way. They literally are working in
their business, not on their business. They don't create that economic engine, that asset. My
favorite word on earth, David, is asset. And so Exit Rich, I came together
with my co-author, who's a business broker and a mergers and acquisitions to really help people
understand how to build the foundation of your business. And we talk about the six Ps, your
people, who do you have on your team, have a mentor, right? Your product, of course, product
or service, your processes, are those processes are going to
allow you to be scalable? And then your proprietary, what's unique to new? What's
your competitive advantage? What are your intangible assets? Let's identify them,
protect them and leverage them. All right. And then your patrons, your database, the people that
you have, the customers that support you. And then the 6 P is profits. And so we go deep dive into each
of those to say, where can we build that sustainable business model, taking your
successful business, making it sustainable, scalable, and saleable so that you truly can
exit rich. Amazing. Amazing the type of work that you've done. And again, I've known you for,
again, about seven years. You're very,
you know, very into the community, very much into helping others. I've only heard the most
positive things about you. And I'm, again, not just saying that, but it's very true. And you do
a lot for people. And again, even the fact of writing these books to help people, 26 books.
Like, is there a thing when you're going to say, well, okay, if I hit 30 books, I'm done?
I mean, is there a number to be done with?
No, I don't think so.
I love, you know, I do a lot of work helping other people with their books as well.
Understanding that when you write a book, you want to write a story.
You want to tell a story. A lot of people write books to sound educated. And so, you know,
and people read it and it goes in one eye and out the other, right? And so in order to really make
a book that's going to be a bestseller or impact people in a strong way, you need to tell stories,
you need to impact their hearts. And so I love helping people take their message. Because if
you, you know, if you keep it up here, then they have to be in front of you to hear their hearts. And so I love helping people take their message. Because if you keep
it up here, then they have to be in front of you to hear your wisdom. Let's take out what you know
and your expertise and put it in a tangible format like a book so that you can impact a greater
number of people. Excellent. And we try to impact a lot here on the Alliance's Hero Show because
you're listening and watching me, David Kogan, host of the Alliance's Hero Show, because you're listening and watching me, David Kogan,
host of the Alliance's Hero Show
with the amazing Sharon Lecter.
She's a mentor, co-author.
She was co-author of Rich Dad, Poor Dad.
Her latest book is Exit Rich.
You can get that on Amazon.
Also make sure that you go to her website
at personalsuccessequation.com,
which of course we'll also have on our website at
alliances.com. That's E-L-I-A-N-C-E-S.com. So let's get into with all of the books.
I mean, you just have a whole library. I'm just like trying to picture 26 books even at a bookstore. Like that's like a quarter of a row.
I mean, just it's amazing.
And with all the books that you've had,
and I want to maybe focus on the Exit Rich one right now.
What was something maybe that surprised you most about it
that you really want people to get?
Like you read this book, you've got to get this.
Well, I think David, you know, Exit Rich, we love it. We made the Wall Street Journal bestseller
list, USA Today bestseller list. But I'm actually surprised when a lot of people say, oh, well,
I'm, you know, I'm not at that stage yet. And I'm going, but at some point in your life,
don't you want to be, don't you want to be able to get your time back? Don't you want to build
your business now so that you can make those decisions for yourself later on? And it's,
you know, it surprises me people, they have blinders on. They're so busy in what they're doing
that they don't understand how to prepare for the next step. And I want to just rip those blinders
off and say, you know, what you're doing today is going to prepare whether or not you have an easier tomorrow.
Right. And you have a son. I met your son. Very nice gentleman.
What type of advice secrets can you share for parents or parent out there when raising their kids to instill the right things to have them be successful like you are?
the right things to have them be successful like you are.
Well, I think it's so important in today's world of instant gratification and parents who all we want our children to have what we didn't have.
It's so important to make sure your children have the opportunity
to set a goal, achieve it, celebrate it so that their self-confidence grows.
You know, we talk about money.
We say we can't afford it.
That's a negative statement.
Your mind closes. Your child wants something. You can't afford it. Negative. They want to go hide away. Instead, choosing your language is very important. And so the saying we can't afford that, Johnny, Mary, say how can we afford it? And those kids, it opens their mind to the possibilities. It triggers their entrepreneurial spirit and they can become very creative
in finding ways to afford what they want.
Well, Sharon, you've definitely added value
to the lives of those that are listening
and watching today.
That's a hero, hero, Sharon Lecter.
