Why don't we go ahead and do a channel max?
Adel, I would absolutely love that idea because you know what?
What?
I feel like I have not caught up with my guys in forever.
What the hell is going on guys?
New year, new us.
Nobody here does New Year's resolutions, do they?
Does it seem like I do? What's the opposite of a resolution?
Like a New Year's devolution.
Getting worse.
I feel like.
Being resigned?
A New Year's unraveling.
Yeah.
This year.
Let's publicly state a resolution right now
that we're all absolutely gonna adhere to.
Can I tell you, it's not really a New Year's resolution
because I probably started this like two months ago,
but I have been reading more books
and I'm trying to continue that into the new year.
That's great.
I don't know if it's-
What have you read?
I've been reading a lot of fantasy books.
Are you guys on the Libby app, like the library app that you can like read books
on your phone thing?
I am not.
No.
Okay.
Gemma has that.
Yeah, I've, it's just like the library,
but you can do it for like eBooks
and then I can read them on my phone,
which I like because I was reading like fantasy books
that had like, you know, a thousand pages
and I don't love hulking around
like a thousand page book everywhere.
Um, but I was reading, I think Bruce Banner can hold a thousand page book.
I don't think he needs to turn into the Hulk to carry a thousand page book, but wouldn't
it help you?
You got me.
I just read two Cory Doctorow books.
Um, and he does like, uh. I guess he does sci-fi,
but these weren't really sci-fi,
they were just like modern fiction.
Now I'm in the middle of another one,
which is sci-fi and it's longer, it's called Walk Away.
The reason I don't really like to talk about books that I'm reading is
because sometimes I'll read a book and not really love it,
but I wanted to read it anyway.
I feel like I read a lot,
but I don't necessarily love all the things that I read.
Not to say that his book isn't great or that he's not a good author.
I know Cory.
He seems like a fun, cool dude.
But sometimes I read books that are just not my vibe,
and I don't really like gel with.
But I've been reading more and I'm continuing that into the new year and
the Libby app has helped a lot.
Then I've also seen, I don't know if you guys,
well, you guys probably haven't because I
just started talking about the Libby thing.
But there are people that have
like different library cards.
Because the Libby app, you can
have multiple library cards.
I don't know why it would be
the case that you could do that.
But like you can rent or like check out
books from different libraries
if you have access to different cards.
It's a whole thing.
Like people like min-max this shit
so that they can have like 13 books,
check that out at the same time.
And also sometimes if it's a popular book,
you'll be like, I wanna read it from the library.
And they'll be like, great, you're 150th on the list.
You have to wait a year for the book or whatever.
It seems insane that you would run out of digital copies of a book.
Um, but I know that Gemma last year at some point used her parents'
address in Brooklyn to get a Brooklyn Libby card or something.
And I was confused about that, but now that makes sense.
If it's like availability or whatever, my brother in law, it's also
like a digital rights issue,
I guess.
My brother-in-law works for a library in Florida
and he was telling me that like,
you can buy like guest passes,
like annual memberships to the library.
So like, if you want to pay money for it,
I could get a library card at his library in Florida
for the non-state resident price or whatever too.
So you could, I think do that to like also have better access to books.
Up your odds?
Yeah.
Yeah, but if I wanna get a library book from Florida,
it's gonna have like all of the, you know,
Florida book banning restrictions on it.
And I actually don't think that's true.
It's gonna be covered in alligators.
What about you?
Does anyone else have anything that they're like
trying to bring into the new year?
I would like to, I too, I'm trying to read more. I just finished tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow.
And it fucked me right up.
Yeah, turns out.
Um, but I do want to read more.
Um, and I'm also just trying to.
Like buy less of everything.
Like I really am trying to streamline.
11 eggs, five bagels.
Yes.
One sock.
Mm-hmm.
One twix.
I'm trying to live way more minimally.
I did a huge purge of my house at the end of December.
One hour a year you can kill whatever you want in your house? a huge purge of my house at the end of December.
One hour a year you can kill whatever you want in your house?
Yeah, Lou and I killed a lot of stuff,
mostly every guest that walked in.
But I really want, I just want empty drawers
and I wanna buy less food than I think
because I just wanna focus on food waste
and not buying any more than I need,
toiletry-wise, only having one shampoo at a time.
So we're working on that.
Love that.
Yeah.
Would love to tell my wife about one shampoo at a time.
You know?
Yeah, get her.
Get her. Get her ass. Ad, Adil, what are you trying
to bring into the new year? Um, two things I can think of. One is that we're trying to,
as best we can, like cook at home, make meal, make meals versus putting Jimmy John's kids
through college. If, if Jimmy John's has kids. Um, I think he does it, I think they're awful.
Oh, well that's all the more reason
to stop ordering Jimmy John's.
And then I'm also, I feel like a lot of times
I get stuck in routine every day where I'm like,
oh I sit at my desk for six hours and do this
or check on the email replies and whatever that is.
So I'm trying to break out of routine a little bit.
So I got this like Advent calendar box
with like a bunch of drawers.
Okay.
And so Gemma and I like writing little things,
like little maybe half hour to two hour activities
and putting them in the box
and we're gonna roll a D20 every day,
or not every day, but whenever we have
the Impulsor, the free time,
and then we're gonna do whatever the box contains.
That's so cool.
So it might be, it might be like, let's watch a video on like a,
how to repair something around the house for half an hour.
Or let's play a board game or let's go for a walk
or let's take a drive and try and find a new restaurant
we haven't tried.
Which immediately goes against my,
let's cook more at home rule.
But just trying to break up routine
with more sort of new input.
That's such a good idea. That's a very good idea.
And it's also so hard to do, especially in Chicago in the wintertime too, because it
sucks outside and it's like to want to be like, I want to go do something.
And then you're like, okay, and then I have to like put on my all these clothes and then
like have a very warm up.
There's it's just, and then it's like, okay, then I have to get inside a building
as quickly as possible.
Like, what can I do that gets me inside of the building
as quickly as possible?
Yeah.
I think it's gonna turn into a lot of like,
make pants for the cats, like stuff,
it's just little projects around the house.
Well, that sounds kind of awesome.
Tell me that you wrote
make pants for the cats. Every drawer is
make pants for the cats.
20 times.
Jim was so thoughtful about yours.
You crushed yours in six minutes.
You're like, make pants for the cats, make pants for the cats.
Oh, eventually you just sort of wrote it in cats, pants,
cats, pants, cats, pants.
Any other resolutions?
This is not a resolution, per se, but along those same lines, and this is, I guess, not an ad,
but I think Adel, you were the one that clued me into it, was like the purple carrot meal delivery
thing that you did for a little while. Yeah.
Mariah and I have been doing that for a few months now. Just I think like the smallest one
that they have, which is two meals a week.
Because we got to get back in the cooking habit,
and it would be nice to have a meal kit.
It's all vegan too, which is pretty cool.
But we've really enjoyed that.
That's been really nice, and it has helped us cook a little more.
Yeah. Especially when you're cooking for a kid,
you're like, I need kid like you're like, okay, like I gotta I gotta like I
Need some brain juices flowing to think of like more things than I can feed a kid
It also I feel like purple carrot when we were using it felt like healthy
Or at least healthier than I mean stuff, but I guess any any vegan or vegetarian is gonna be a little bit healthier
I think than most stuff. I don't know how like healthy healthy it is
But it's like it certainly has vegetables in it like you're certainly are I felt better than if I was eating an Italian beef
Every day. Yeah
Twice a day Jimmy John's ordering it's much healthier healthier, but we've been trying to we were like in January
We want to like try to like reduce our processed sugar intake
But then we were like going through the house,
Aaron food waste and looking at all the things that we had
that had like processed sugar.
And then, and we were like, okay,
we don't want to throw away all of this stuff.
We just want to like not buy new,
we don't replenish the processed sugar, you know.
So we're doing this thing where instead of just like
cutting it off cold turkey,
we're like finishing the shit in the house that like, not like bingeing on everything
that has processed sugar.
Yeah, finishing the 300 buck guys.
You're eating more sugar than ever before.
Than ever before.
But we're like slowly getting rid of it
and like not replenishing it
so that we're like out of processed sugar.
And then the other day we got a knock on the door
and it was a Girl Scout who was selling Girl Scout cookies.
We're like, well, we're not gonna be the fucking assholes
that don't buy any Girl Scout cookies
from the one that's coming to your door
Telling things door-to-door is hard enough and I'm not gonna do it for like the bug spray people, but I'll do it for the Girl Scout cookie
So then now we have a bunch of Girl Scout cookies and I was like
I think I'm gonna hide these somewhere in the house and then hit myself in the head really hard
So I won't know where they are and we can continue living without them
Well, good luck.
