If you remember them from TLCS series 19 Kids in Counting, you know this is a family that built its entire empire. on faith and on purity. Yet now, the Dugger name has pretty much become synonymous with scandal, and it is only getting worse. I shared recently the news about a second Dugger child, Joseph, being arrested for sexual crimes against a minor. And just when it felt like we had reached the height of that story, there's a major update, one that is shocking, because now, Joseph's own wife has been arrested and is also facing charges.

I told you it's gotten worse, much worse. And yes, there are also more charges on the docket against Joseph. Plus, this is interesting, not about who showed up to Joseph's court hearing, but rather who did not show up. We're learning this famously tight-knit family officially is not so tight-knit anymore and may not all be standing together. I'm Lauren Matthias, and this is hidden true crime. We're now learning that Joseph Dugger was essentially snubbed by his own family when he showed up to court after his arrest.

On Friday, he appeared in an Arkansas courtroom via Zoom, and during that hearing, he waived his right to an extradition hearing, which means he agreed to be sent to Florida to face his charges. But what really stood out to people wasn't again just what happened. happened in court. It was who wasn't there. It's been reported that his wife Kendra wasn't there. His parents weren't there and none of his siblings showed up. That's a pretty big deal because this is a family that's built its reputation on standing together no matter what. They present a united front even in the middle of controversy. We've seen that pattern over and over again. Yes, yes. Minus Jill Dugger. Because Jill Dugger appeared on the documentary, shiny, happy people, sort of telling her side of the story. But that's why Jill is an outsider. She broke the mold.

And it was a big deal she did. But for the rest of the duggers to all be absent like this, especially during something this serious, it immediately raises more questions and answers. But then as more information comes out, it's starting to look like that absence may not be random at all. And it may be because his wife, Kendra, was getting ready to be handed some of her own charges as well. Yes, I know. I've thrown that bombshell out twice now, but before we get into the newest developments there, and I realize, again, what I just said is a very big deal. First, let's just go over everything we know about Joseph's charges leading up to this point. So we're all caught up and ready for the heavy updates. This all started on March 18, 26, when Joseph Dugger was taken into custody and booked into the Washington County Jail in Fayetteville, Arkansas. At that point, he, he was being held there while awaiting extradition to Florida. The charges he's facing in Florida, they're extremely serious. He's been accused of lewd and lascivious behavior involving unlawful sexual activity with a minor.

According to the Bay County Sheriff's Office in Florida, investigators were contacted the same day as the arrest by a detective with the Tontytown Police Department in Arkansas. And just for context, Tonti Town is where the Dugger family home is located. In a statement, the sheriff's office said that a 14-year-old girl participated in a forensic interview. And during that forensic interview, she disclosed multiple alleged incidents involving Joseph Dugger and that she says this happened when she was nine years old. So these allegations, then if you do the math, go back to 2020. Investigators say the incidents took place during a family vacation in Panama City Beach, Florida. According to the victim, Joseph repeatedly asked her to sit on his lap.

As the vacation went on, she said he asked her to sit next to him on a couch and that he then covered both of them with a blanket. And during those interactions, she alleged that he manipulated her underwear, greased her genitals, and rubbed her thighs. She also said that later on, Joseph apologized for his actions, and after that apology, the behavior stopped. Now, here's where things escalated. Investigators say the victim's father confronted Joseph about these allegations on March 17th. Happy St. Patrick's Day, March 17th, just one day before the arrest. And according to law enforcement, Joseph admitted to the conduct. And he didn't just admit to the victim's father, but he also admitted it to detectives with the Tauntytown Police Department.

After that, he was arrested out of state and is now facing those charges that include molestation of a victim under 12 years old, along with lewd conduct by a person 18 years or older, and Bay County Sheriff Tommy Ford made it very clear where law enforcement stands on this. he said, quote, I don't care if he's got a TV show or who he is or what he's done. He's committed in a legal act and he's going to be held accountable for that, end quote. And he doesn't have a show right now because TLC now wants nothing to do with the Duggers, thanks to his brother Josh, but we'll get to that in a minute. As of right now, Joseph is being held in a secure area of the Washington County Jail while waiting to be extradited to Florida. reports say he has no access to other inmates and is under constant watch because of his status

as a public figure. There are officers with body cameras stationed near his cell and he's reportedly being checked on hourly. So that's everything we knew initially, everything I laid out in our first episode. And honestly, even just that on its own is a lot to take in, right? But now there's another layer to this story that is the reason I'm up late doing this episode because people were not expecting this. I certainly wasn't. And it involves his wife, Kendra. So according to new reports, Taunty Town Police have filed additional charges against Joseph Ducker. But not only that, again, Kendra Dugger, his wife, is now also facing charges in Washington County, Arkansas as well. So this is no longer just about Joseph. This now involves both of them.

husband and wife. Joseph, again, still being held, still awaiting extradition for the Florida case, but he is now also facing charges in Arkansas and Kendra, who is 27 years old, is facing those same charges in Arkansas. So please confirm that both Joseph and Kendra are each now accused of four counts of second degree endangering the welfare of a minor, along with four counts of second degree false imprisonment. Now, let's pause on that for a little bit for a second, because those are very specific charges. So second degree false imprisonment in, again, Arkansas generally means knowingly restraining someone without their consent and without legal authority. That doesn't necessarily mean something, you know, maybe very extreme in a way some people, including myself,

could imagine. I checked it out. It is definitely extreme, always. But it can be something like blocking someone from leaving a room, confining them to a space, or preventing a child even from leaving a situation where they should be free to go. It's classified as a misdemeanor, but when minors are involved, it's still pretty incredibly serious. Police actually went out to the Dugger family compound around 1 p.m. on Friday, March 20th, to serve a warrant for Kendra's arrest. But when they got there, she wasn't home. And there are even reports that there's some confusion about whether Joseph and Kendra even still live on this compound, like they once did or if they live somewhere else in the area. But at that moment, they could not locate Kendra. That's what matters here.

Early this afternoon, here's a look at Toneytown Police after agreeing to meet Kendra at their family compound to serve her arrest warrants. That's the compound you saw on the 19 and counting, 19 kids encountering. reality show for years. But after waiting for about a half hour, they were told she wasn't there and plans changed. Kendra Dugger then later turned herself in at the Washington County Detention Center. Needless to say, this week has been a wild one for the Taunty Town PD due to the cross country and local charges and the notoriety of that Dugger name. We're getting phone calls from all over the United States, news channels, the post, the insider channels in Florida, just trying to to confirm both what we're doing and what they're doing.

And I can't speak on what that agency's doing. But yes, we're getting calls. We're just inundated with phone calls, emails, and trying to keep up as fast as we can. And Tiny Town Police tell us they discovered information and evidence while assisting that Florida investigation that led them to these new charges. They will not give us any details what they're connected to. They tell us these charges, though, are not directly connected to that Florida case. Kendra reportedly turned herself into.

the Washington County Jail before getting out on bail just an hour and 23 minutes after being booked in. Seriously, she was booked in at 4.56 p.m. and then released at 6.19 p.m. Jail record showed that she had a bond set at $1,470. And something really important to understand here is that the Arkansas charges, again, are separate from the Florida case. Police have made that very clear, separate from Joseph's charges that he faces in Florida. However, they also said the Arkansas investigation was launched after the Florida allegations came to light. So while they are technically separate cases, they are connected in the sense that one led to the other being investigated. And because minors are involved, law enforcement is being extremely limited in what they can release. And while the victims haven't, yet been publicly identified, given the fact that Kendra and Joseph have four children, many are assuming right now that the charges are related to them. But we do not know. Now, as all of this

is unfolding, people are also stepping back, looking at the bigger picture here when it comes to this family. It's already widely known that the oldest son, Josh Dugger, Joseph's older brother, was convicted on charges related to CSAM. But even before that, there were past allegations, that he molested several of his sisters when he was younger, as well as another young girl. We went over those charges in history in our last episode. So now seeing another Dugger son being accused of inappropriate behavior involving a minor, even though the situation may or may not involve a sibling, allegedly it does not, but we don't know.

We don't know. It's still raising a lot of uncomfortable questions. People are asking, what is going on in this family? That's not about jumping to conclusion. this literally asking what is going on in this family. It's about people noticing a pattern trying to make sense of it. There has also been a lot of speculation online about the identity of Joseph's alleged victim in Florida with fans or followers of the Dugger family trying to piece together timelines and context and clues.

But out of respect for the victim and because nothing has been officially confirmed, That's not something we're going to get into yet or even speculate on. Another question that's coming up now is what this means for Kendra, especially in comparison to Anna Dugger, Josh's wife, who has stayed by his side. Anna largely stood again by Josh and has reportedly been supported by Jim Bob and Michelle Dugger, her in-laws, since Josh's arrest. So naturally, many are wondering if Kendra is going to end up in a similar situation, Instead, plot twist, she was arrested.

But separate from that major plot twist, from what's being reported, Kendra's relationship with the Dugger family isn't quite as the same as with Anna Dugger. There have been mentions of distance between her family and the Duggers. So Kendra's family and the Duggers possibly due to a family feud. Issues within the church during COVID, okay. and other factors that are still kind of unclear or murky, we're working on sorting it all out. And on top of that, Kendra has been described as extremely protective of her children, especially after everything came out about her brother-in-law, Josh. It's been reported that she doesn't trust anyone outside of her own parents to babysit.

Makes sense. So, but, hmm, that death adds another layer of confusion here because now some people online, they're chatting, leaning back, seeing the big picture, and looking at this and thinking, okay, even with that level of protectiveness, the alleged danger may not have been external at all. It may have been inside her own home. There's also been a clear distinction made between Josh and Joseph over the years, the two brothers, Josh, the oldest brother, oldest Dugger son, was often described as more boisterous, cocky, more attention seeking.

while younger brother Joseph, on the other hand, was sort of seen as soft-spoken, gentle, more reserved. He had close relationships with his sisters and was widely considered, you know, like one of the good ones. And I think that perception is part of why this is hitting so many of us so hard because it challenges the idea that you can always tell who is capable of something like this. Dr. John Matthias, my husband and co-host, a clinical and forensic psychologist, can speak to them. that once more is out and when he's ready. But let's talk about how the Dugger family is responding, okay? Because this is where things also get even a little bit more confusing. Like family members, yeah, they're speaking out already since Joseph's arrest, dropping PR statements left and right. But it's not who you think. The first statement actually came from, are you ready for this?

Josh Dugger. Yeah, the older brother, who again is. currently in prison for C-SAM-related charges. Probably the last brother anyone would want to speak out PR-wise for you. So when people saw that Josh, of all people, was speaking out, we raised some eyebrows. I did a little side-eyeing and then I listened. So according to reports, Josh's attorney said, quote, Josh understands the stigma of being accused. And that statement, it's very carefully.

worded, it doesn't address the allegations or comment on Joseph's actions. It just focuses on the idea of being accused. But despite the careful wording, it also, I would say certainly implies wrongfully accused, being wrongfully accused. The attorney also added that Joseph and Josh are not infrequent communication and that Josh hopes and praise for his brother's well-being during this time. So again, it's this tone of distance mixed with a very general form of support and empathy. Like Josh understands his brother, Joseph's pain right now. If I were Joseph, I'd be thinking, like, please, Josh don't speak about me or for me. But nonetheless, Josh spoke through his attorney.

And again, through his attorney, Josh went on to say, quote, let's just read this here. Josh sympathizes with the suffering that the public spectacle of criminal accusations creates. He has felt the pain of false public accusations himself, and he has seen how the media sensationalizes his family's private struggles, end quote. Brindley continued by saying Josh cannot speak to his brother's guilt or innocence, but he can say that no one deserves to have their lowest moments broadcast for the world for the sake of clicks and online comments. And then his sister, Jessa Dugger, made a public statement.

And let's talk about that because her statement, it's also important. Jessa released a statement before the news about Kendra's arrest came out. And since then, that statement has been deleted, actually. So in Jess's statement, she said, quote, we learned of the saddening news along with the rest of the world on Wednesday. and we are in complete shock. Our hearts are grieving for this innocent young girl, and we know this is deeply grievous to God

who cares tenderly for children and the vulnerable. We are keeping her in our prayers as a family. We are pulling together to support Kendra and her kids during this difficult time, end quote. And that last part stands out now, especially knowing what we know, because at the time Kendra had not yet been arrested, and she was being viewed as someone caught in the middle of this, understandably.

Now that she faces charges herself, that statement definitely takes a different tone. And the fact that it's been deleted raises even more questions about how this case is developing. And then we have Jill Dugger Dillard's statement, which was the most detailed. Again, Jill appeared on the documentary, shiny happy people. And that statement reads, quote, we were shocked yesterday evening to learn of Joseph Dugger's arrest. We first learned of anything related to his charges yesterday via a text from a friend who messaged us about the recent media reports of Joseph's arrest and his alleged confession to molesting a juvenile female in 2020. We are shocked and heartbroken. We strongly condemn abuse. We support. the rule of law and hope that justice will be achieved.

Our hearts go out to the innocent, juvenile victim of this unspeakable crime and her family. We pray God gives her strength, comfort, and hope, and that she is able to get all of the help and support she needs and deserves in the days ahead. We love our sister and like Kendra and our four nieces and nephews and pray that they feel loved and supported during this time, as we cannot imagine the indescribable pain they feel as a process and grieve everything. a child who deserved to be safe, protected and surrounded by people she could trust. The courage it took for her to come forward, especially after years of carrying something so heavy, cannot be overstated. And that bravery deserves to be honored above all else. I will always, always honor the victims and talk about them and celebrate their bravery and truth because that's how monsters like this get put away. I was utterly shocked to hear about these allegations in Joseph's arrest.

At the same time, I am not surprised that another alleged predator has emerged from this. toxic system. For years, I've spoken out about the importance of truth, accountability, and protecting children, even when it meant going against my own family. Family ties should never equal automatic trust or access, especially when it comes to the safety of children. And when an image is protected over truth and silence is chosen over accountability, it creates an environment where abuse can thrive. I have worked hard to break cycles in both my extended family and my immediate family. My boundaries are in place for a reason, and I have used my voice to expose the darkness and advocate for the protection of children.

A journey I wrote about in Holy Disruptor, my memoir, my book, as a way to help others recognize harmful patterns. Speak the truth and find their voice in toxic systems. I'm praying for the victim and her family. as they walk through what is sure to be an incredible difficult road ahead, recognizing that we do not yet know the full picture. I am also praying for Joseph's wife's Kendra. She's precious, you guys. As she begins to process this and for the protection of their children, I'm praying for eyes to be opened. And above all else, I pray that justice will be served to the fullest. I, I, it's so hard. hard to comprehend and to process. And it's really scary to think that I thought I knew someone who apparently I didn't.

And my heart just breaks. It's just absolutely shattered right now. So thank you for the prayers. It's not about me, but it's a ripple effect of what happens when something so evil comes out. It affects all of us. It affects the entire family. And my heart just goes out to everyone that's hurting right now. So at this point, that's where things stand.

It's kind of a lot. You have two separate investigations now in two different states, Arkansas and Florida, both involving minors. You have both Joseph and Kendra now facing charges. It's all evolving in real time and we're following clearly. and statements that were released just hours earlier are already being labeled, well, at best they're being labeled as outdated. At worst, they're being labeled as out of touch, these family statements.

And the more details that come out, the more questions we have. And it's not looking better necessarily. It's looking worse. But there are still a lot of unanswered questions again here. We're going to continue to learn and follow to understand about what exactly happened, about what Kendra may or may not have known, and about how all of this is going to play out legally moving forward. And through all of that, the most important thing to keep in mind is that this case, again, involves minors. And because of that, there are going to be

limits on what we know, at least for now, or even what we might learn, but not always share. The victims are most important here. Kendra has her first court hearing on Monday morning that we will be following closely and then she is a peer scheduled to appear again on April 29th. While Joseph, Joseph also has a hearing on the 29th for the same charges he faces with Kendra, although given that could possibly be in Florida, right? He could be in Florida at that time. It's unclear how his court date will play out. As this continues to develop, we'll keep following the updates, separating confirmed information from speculation and sharing everything being reported as this moves through the legal system.
