Starting point is 00:00:00 Lately, I've been trying to be more intentional about what I wear, intentional about everything, just choosing pieces that feel effortless, still put together, timeless, but also not overthinking it every morning. It's why I keep going back to quince. Their pieces just make getting dressed easier and I feel so classy. I feel elevated. The fits are flattering. The fabric is really high quality. Everything is wearable day to day. I actually got this really, really, beautiful yellow V-neck midi dress from them, and I paired it with some Italian leather sandals. It's one of those outfits that just works. It feels polished but still comfortable. It's exactly what I've been looking for. What surprises me, though, is the quality for the price.
Starting point is 00:00:47 Quince uses premium materials like European linen, organic cotton, but they cut out the middleman. So everything is priced way lower than you'd expect. Refresh. your every day with luxury you can actually use. Head to quince.com slash hidden true crime for free shipping on your order and 365 day returns. That's quince, quince, q-u-in-c-com slash hidden true crime for free shipping and 365 day returns. Quince.com slash hidden true crime. It is Lauren Mathias with hidden headlines. And before we get back into the updates and analysis on the many cases we're already currently covering, we have got to stop and just go over this. This week's headlines, five new cases that have shocked and upset us, leaving us with
Starting point is 00:01:41 questions, as well as police requesting the public's help finding a woman wanted for murder. On Valentine's Day, officers in Bald Springs, Texas, they showed up at the home of Crystal Canales after she called 911 and told dispatchers that her 19-year-old daughter, Deliver, Lila Villegas was having difficulty breathing. Delilah has autism and she cannot speak. She's nonverbal. And after Delilah's father passed away five years ago, well, family members worried that her mom,
Starting point is 00:02:12 Crystal, would become overwhelmed with Delilah's needs. In fact, Delilah's paternal aunt Yarapardo recently stated, quote, I always had a gut feeling after my brother passed. It was always a fear of mine that something would have happened to her because there was never a way for us to be in contact with her. There wasn't a way for us to communicate with her. But in the back of my mind, I told myself she was going to be okay because she's with her mom. Her mom is going to take care of her, end quote.
Starting point is 00:02:38 Well, Pardo's gut feeling wasn't eerie, foreshadowing. Because when police and paramedics arrived at the home, they were met with a scene more horrific than anyone could imagine. Entering the house, the first thing they noticed was a foul odor coming from Delilah's bedroom. And inside Delilah's bedroom, they found a mattress, two, palates made out of comforters and Delilah, lying dead in a fetal position on a cement floor. While Crystal insisted that Delilah had been breathing just before paramedics arrived, her condition painted a different picture. Delilah's body was said to be skin and bones, covered with bed sores, and she had such large lacerations that it appeared her limbs were decaying.
Starting point is 00:03:20 Some of her bones on her shoulder, right thigh, hip and buttocks, hands, and ankle, were even visible. Boom. Even the medical examiner stated that Delilah had probably been in that fetal position for at least six hours, but authorities believe it was much longer and even described her body, which left an outline on the floor as appearing mummified. When asked why Crystal didn't seek medical attention for her daughter, Delilah's condition sooner, Crystal said that Delilah was known to have violent episodes and she was treating the sores herself with neosporin. The victim was nonverbal, and so there were times where she became extremely violent, punching, hitting, kicking family members. There was also an incident where she had an altercation on a school bus, but we're still investigating on that incident. But other family members did confirm that our victim was very aggressive towards family members, and sometimes they would be discouraged. to interact with our victim. However, Balt Spring, Texas detectives concluded that a reasonable person, especially a mother, would have sought medical attention for the severity of her wounds.
Starting point is 00:04:38 And the last time Delilah had even physically been seen by a doctor was in May of 2021. By the way, the situation, it reminded me it was reminiscent of 36-year-old Lacey Fletcher, also autistic, whose death sparked graphic headlines like, woman melted into a couch. Remember that in 2023? Lacey's parents were found guilty of manslaughter after her body was found covered in ulcers, fecal matter, and maggots. This was all on the couch where Lacey seemingly spent the majority of her life, never getting off of this couch. And her cause of death was severe chronic neglect. And officers said it was one of the worst cases they had ever witnessed. It's another example of what can happen when people with special needs are either isolated or
Starting point is 00:05:23 they cannot speak up for themselves. They are so vulnerable. They have to rely on caregivers who either can't or don't care to get them the help they need. Well, an officer with the Balch Springs Police Department named Pedro Gonzalez, he stated, quote, if someone would have noticed or would have been concerned about the child, they could have easily called 911. And also, do you know that he called Delilah a child? We know she's 19, but clearly, to the officers, this was a child.
Starting point is 00:05:52 So I'll continue. We would have responded and personally checked on the victim, and maybe we wouldn't be here if that would have happened, end quote. However, according to family members, Crystal had recently not even been allowing anyone to come and visit Delilah and may have even been trying to conceal her out of embarrassment or to keep them from reporting her conditions. I have a feeling it's the latter. Let's make sure no one sees what I'm doing and report her condition. Regardless, Crystal is currently being held at the Dallas County County. jail and has been charged with serious bodily injury to a disabled person under her care. It's a second degree felony that carries a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison.
Starting point is 00:06:34 Police are requesting the public's help and an arrest warrant has been issued for a San Diego woman after her wife was found dead in their home on February 17th. So let me set the stage here. Rebecca Marity suffered multiple stab wounds believed to have been inflicted by her wife, 53-year-old Yolanda Merida. Rebecca, let me tell you about her. She was a chief with the California Wildfire Agency and worked for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection and has done this for more than 30 years. She even helped fight last month's tragic, Eaton and Palisades fires in California. So while Yolanda and Rebecca had only been married for a little over two years, it appears as though some disturbing things transpired in
Starting point is 00:07:22 Yolanda's past relationships. Well, she's 53. Let's hear about her past relationships. Well, in 2004, she pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter after she admitted to killing her ex-husband James Olensnichek in October of 2000. Yolanda spent 13 years in prison for that charge, as well as for possession of drug paraphernalia while incarcerated. She was released in 2013 and remained on parole until 2015. While the motive is currently unclear, Yolanda's arrest warrant shed some light on an altercation that occurred between her and her new wife, Rebecca. Video and audio evidence from the couple's home security camera were collected. The footage showed Yolanda chasing Rebecca on their patio shortly after 8 a.m. on February 17th, the day Rebecca was found. In the
Starting point is 00:08:17 audio, Rebecca can be heard screaming. Yolanda, please. I don't want to die. And in the video, she could be seen again with what appeared to be blood on her back. Yolanda responded, you should have thought about that before as she stood in front of Rebecca with what looked to be a knife in her hand and blood running down her arms. The couple made their way inside. And about 10 minutes later, Yolanda was seen gathering up their pets, some luggage and other random items and loading it into a silver Chevy Equinox SUV.
Starting point is 00:08:48 After Rebecca was found, an associate turned over 10. text messages from Yolanda that said, quote, Becky came home and told me that she was leaving me. She met someone else. All the messages were lies. We had a big fight and I hurt her. I'm sorry. In an interview, Rebecca's ex-wife had this to say about Yolanda's jealousy. Yolanda was very jealous, my understanding, and did not want to have Becky maintaining friendships that she'd had for years with other women. Federal authorities are now on the hunt for Yolanda, who they believe crossed into Mexico after being seen on camera at the U.S. Mexico border.
Starting point is 00:09:27 The Silver Chevy Equinox has a California license plate 8BQJ 420. And Yolanda is 5 feet, 2 inches tall, has brown hair, tattoos on both her upper arms, and is believed to be traveling with a small white dog. Police are asking anyone with information to please contact the San Diego Sheriff's Homicide Unit at 858-28-28-633. For most of us, I'm sure that Paris visiting Paris, well, that would be a dream come true and a chance to create unforgettable memories. However, this past Monday, one American teen turned her trip to Paris into an absolute nightmare. While the 18-year-old's identity has not been
Starting point is 00:10:08 released, we do know that she was traveling with a group organized by the Massachusetts-based company called EF Gap Year. So per their website, EF Gapier provides travel experiences around the world for young adults who are taking a break between high school and college. And this is becoming more popular to sort of take that gap year, hence the name gap year, before jumping into college. And they have study abroad programs for these current students. Well, this teen was staying at a hotel in the French capital where she unexpectedly gave birth to a baby boy.
Starting point is 00:10:42 Bystanders witnessed the horrific sight of a baby being thrown from a second-story window of the hotel. The infant was found wrapped in a cloth and still had the umbilical cord attached. When police arrived, the baby boy was transported to a local hospital in Paris where he unfortunately passed away. The 19-year-old was taken to the hospital as well. To receive medical treatment, she had just given birth, and authorities are considering pregnancy denial. That's in quote, pregnancy denial as a potential explanation.
Starting point is 00:11:13 So in some cases, women or girls experiencing pregnancy denial may not consciously perceive themselves as pregnant, even if they are experiencing symptoms of pregnancy. Denial can be regarded as a psychological defense mechanism in order to avoid negative consequences of a pregnancy or avoid remember a traumatic event, actually, such as a sexual assault. So not only is pregnancy denial about avoiding, let's say, the consequences of a pregnancy, which is a child, a baby, a life that you are growing inside of you, but it can also be an avoidance of remembering traumatic events, such as against sexual assault. I know I just repeated myself, but pregnancy denial. It's an interesting thing that Paris authorities are saying about this team. So similarly, a woman with
Starting point is 00:12:06 pregnancy denial may exhibit concealment behaviors, which can be fear-induced coping. It's a coping mechanism. Let's talk about this. An example of these strategies would be wearing loose fitting clothing to hide a growing baby bump. I did a little more research and some articles are suggesting that a recent uptick in baby dumping or infanticide cases in the United States, it may be a result of stricter abortion loss. So to combat the issue, states have been installing safe haven't baby boxes all over the country where mothers can legally surrender their newborns. And well, it doesn't appear that that France has designated safe haven boxes, women in the country are legally able to give birth in any hospital anonymously and surrender their babies at the hospital.
Starting point is 00:12:55 However, of course, as a tourist, this teen probably may not have been aware of that or even considered it, especially if she is just simply dealing with pregnancy denial. She might not have even considered other options. The travel company, E.F. Gapier, said in the statement, we are deeply saddened and shocked by this tragic event and our thoughts are with everyone affected during this difficult time. We are fully cooperating with local authorities as they continue their investigation. The teen has been arrested and police with the Paris Child Protection Unit are investigating the case as a homicide.

Starting point is 00:13:41 That is the problem. Nothing in my life goes to smoothie. I'm waiting for the catch. Maybe there's no catch. That's exactly what a catch would want me to think. Wow, you need to relax. I need a knock on wood. Do we have wood? Is this tablewood? I think it's laminated. Okay, yeah, that's good. That's close enough. Car selling without a catch. So your car today on Carvana. Pick up these may apply. Starting point is 00:16:10 licking a tub of ice cream and laughing as she placed it back on the shelf at Walmart. If you don't remember this, you're lucky. I'm sorry to inform you of this or to remind you of this, but it was a very disgusting prank that really no one found funny. And the ice cream manufacturer and Walmart partnered together to identify the woman. And she was charged with second. second degree felony tampering with a consumer product. Well, unfortunately, the incident didn't deter the suspect of our next story who was arrested for, you ready for this, urinating on food at a New Hampshire grocery store. Yes, on February 14th, Valentine's Day.
Starting point is 00:16:49 That day you might be, you know, going to the grocery store to buy some food. The Keene Police Department received an anonymous tip regarding a woman posting videos of herself, quote, contaminating items, end quote. At a store called the Monadonok food co-op, did I get that name right? We don't have those where we are. The Monadonok Food Co-op. This person was later identified as 23-year-old content creator Kelly Tedford. The store issued a voluntary recall for red quinoa, white quinoa, tricolor quinoa,
Starting point is 00:17:26 cornmeal, polenta, coconut shreds, and raw walnuts. and reported an estimated financial loss of more than $1,500 in destroyed merchandise and cleaning costs. They released a statement, quote, we have been in direct communication with the Keene Health Department, which has confirmed that no ongoing risk remains. We continue to cooperate fully with the police department and health department regarding this matter. We have strict food safety protocols and recall procedures in place. We are reviewing our security measures and procedures to further safeguard our store and customers, end quote.
Starting point is 00:17:59 But get this, during the investigation, police uncovered numerous additional videos of Tedford committing the same act over a four-year period in Keene and surrounding communities. Yes, four-year period in all of the videos. Tedford urinated on items and then left them to be purchased by unsuspecting customers. So on her Instagram account, which I checked out, the only link that Tedford provides is for her only thing. man's account. So I'm now wondering, was it possible that she was carrying this out as some sort of sexual fetish for her paid subscribers on OnlyFams? Look, I don't know. Maybe I'm stretching, but Kelly was arrested and she was charged with criminal mischief, a Class B felony, and authorities say there may be more charges coming. I hope so, honestly. She has since been released on bail and
Starting point is 00:18:54 is scheduled for arraignment on April 7th. It seems like many influencers are driven. this do anything for views mentality, but cases like this show that pranks or doing over-the-top things for subscribers can lead to serious repercussions and even legal consequences. Surprise. But thank goodness, there are legal consequences. I'm completely shocked and dismayed about what this woman decided to do and for how long she's gotten away with this. Police haven't said exactly where those other locations are, but noted more charges may be
Starting point is 00:19:28 coming. And we also have a lot of people that are trying to capitalize on the strangest things. On the morning of February 19th, police were called to the home of Dorothy Whitamore in Reedfield, Maine. Dorothy's son Samuel and his wife of only five months, Margot, were in town for a visit when things took a terrifying turn to say the least. So to set the stage here, let me explain who everyone is. French native Margo Whitamore, age 32, has worked as a communication specialist, a freelance marketing specialist, a yoga instructor, and through her photos, you can tell that she loved to travel. Samuel, a 34-year-old MIT graduate, formerly worked as a senior avionic systems engineer for SpaceX
Starting point is 00:20:19 before quitting the company in July 2021. And since then, he has worked as the lead engineer for a French Polynesia-based company where he designs equipment to monitor and improve coral reef restoration. Samuel is also the owner of a 50-foot sailboat and describes himself as a passionate engineer and sailor. Well, he and Margo, they got married in an intimate ceremony in September, and had recently moved to Belfast, Maine after traveling the world. They were seemingly starting a beautiful life together. So what went wrong?
Starting point is 00:20:52 When police arrived at the home, they were immediately met with a tragic, scene. Before even entering the house, they found Margot, unclothed, lying dead in the driveway. Inside, they located Dorothy, who was badly injured and had to be rushed to Central Maine Medical Center where she was initially listed in critical condition. Samuel's father, Henry, wasn't home at the time of the incident, but arrived soon after police and realized that his son was nowhere to be found. And a short time later, Sam was located by a state trooper after seemingly fleeing the scene. and he was evaluated at a hospital before being taken to the county jail. As of now, there's a lot we do not know about this case.
Starting point is 00:21:36 The medical examiner ruled Margot's death at homicide, but the arrest affidavit is currently being impounded, which means it is not available to the public. So we do not know Margot's cause of death or any potential motive. However, since Samuel's arrest, Sam has been charged with murder and is scheduled to appear in court on February 21st. First, the hearing was delayed after his attorney raised questions about Samuel's mental status, and the judge has now ordered Sam to undergo a competency evaluation before proceeding.
Starting point is 00:22:08 So we all now question was Sam having some sort of mental health crisis that would explain the sudden act of violence, a newlywed, newly wet, traveled the world together. An article Dorothy wrote for a local publication called the Kennebec Journal does indicate that someone in her life could be experiencing mental health issues. I mean, maybe I'm stretching, but, but hear me out. The article by Dorothy was a call to action for Maine to enact red flag laws. These laws would allow law enforcement and family members to confiscate firearms from individuals who are at a high risk of hurting themselves or others. And typically, this is to do with mental health reasons. And while we are not sure if a firearm was used in this case. Again, we cannot see the motive or how Margo died.
Starting point is 00:23:01 I am wondering if this issue was dear to Dorothy's heart for maybe a specific reason. Maybe she felt Sam could benefit from red flag laws like this. I don't know. Only time will tell if there's a connection there and we will see what happens next. Sam is currently being held without bail pending the results of his evaluation and it has been said that Dorothy, his mother, is now in stable condition. Thank you for subscribe.
