Lately, I've been trying to be more intentional about what I wear, intentional about everything,
just choosing pieces that feel effortless, still put together, timeless, but also not overthinking it
every morning. It's why I keep going back to quince. Their pieces just make getting dressed
easier and I feel so classy. I feel elevated. The fits are flattering. The fabric is really
high quality. Everything is wearable day to day. I actually got this really, really,
beautiful yellow V-neck midi dress from them, and I paired it with some Italian leather sandals.
It's one of those outfits that just works. It feels polished but still comfortable. It's exactly
what I've been looking for. What surprises me, though, is the quality for the price. Quince uses
premium materials like European linen, organic cotton, but they cut out the middleman. So
everything is priced way lower than you'd expect. Refresh.

That's M-O-O-O-D.com to get started. Her mother came home after a road trip, but nine-year-old
Melody Buzzard did not. Now weeks later, the FBI and Santa Barbara Sheriff's Office have just
rated their home, a storage unit, and the rental car. Melody vanished.
And this week, investigators have confirmed something that changes everything in this investigation.
Melody was seen alive two days later than anyone thought, hundreds of miles away on the Utah, Colorado border.
Utah, Utah. After that, no one knows. The next step on investigators' map is Pinguich, Utah.
That city would have been an unnecessary detour near well-known national parks, Bryce Canyon, and Zanagan.
National Park. It's actually a place I know well. And I'll tell you what I think. We'll get into it.
I have some thoughts about the new key locations police have named. And the license plates on that rental
car switched from California to New York and back again before the car was returned. This case
just got darker and more complicated. I'm Laura Matthias and this is hidden true crime where we
uncover the hidden motives behind the most unimaginable crimes, and no update is more urgent than this,
the disappearance of 9-year-old Melody Buzzard out of Lompoc, California. Tonight, we're walking
through all the new evidence, the timeline shift, and the unanswered questions haunting
everyone following this case. What happened between October 9th and 10th, and where is Melody now?
you aren't caught up with this case, we have a full episode covering everything you need to know.
That episode is linked in the description of this episode.
And we'll also do a brief overview here.
But first, let's go over the latest developments because the clock is ticking to find Melody.
On October 30th, investigators returned to the Buzzard home with a full team.
The FBI crime scene investigators in Santa Barbara County detectives.
Ashley Buzzard, Melody's mother, was escorted from the property.
as investigators searched the house, the garage, and even the family's storage unit.
Neighbors captured flashes of light through the garage windows.
What looked like camera flashes as evidence was photographed inside.
But detectives weren't stopping there.
They also served warrants on the rental car, the same vehicle that Ashley used on her cross-country
trip just before Melody disappeared.
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office released this statement, quote,
every detail matters. Collaboration with our federal partners allows us to ensure we're using every
available tool to help bring resolution to this case, end quote. Despite the scale of these searches and
growing public pressure, officials emphasized that this remains a missing person's investigation.
No arrests have been made. But that could change, obviously. And I'm a bit surprised to have
hasn't happened yet. We'll get to that too in just a little bit. But here's what investigators have
pieced together so far. On October 7th, Melody's mother, Ashley, and Melody were seen
renting a car in Lompoc. Melody was reportedly wearing a wig. From there, a strange
road trip began stretching from California through Nevada and Utah all of the way to Nebraska
before turning back around.
The key locations now confirmed include Rancho Cucamonga, California,
Prim, Nevada, northwestern Arizona, Pinguich, Utah, and Green River, Utah.
These key locations are much different than the original focus on Nebraska and Kansas.
Nebraska and Kansas are states that the mom and daughter allegedly headed to in the rental car,
according to police, but then they turned back and started the drive back to California,
which is where these new key locations come into play.
Detectives say that somewhere, around October 8th, the rental cars license plates were swapped
from California to New York before being switched back when the car was returned.
Authorities believe this was an intentional effort to avoid detection, and then came the new
development again that changes the timeline entirely.
Melody was seen alive on October 9th along the Colorado, Utah border, hence the new key locations.
That means the window of time we once believed ended on the 7th.
Now stretches two days further on the return trip home.
So what happened between October 9th that confirmed siding and October 10th when Ashley returned the rental car without her daughter?
That gap could hold the answers to everything.
And like I said, I'm very familiar with these new key locations, and I'll share some observations in just a bit.
I'm quite concerned.
But first, for anyone, just learning about this case, here is the brief backstory.
Melody's father passed away when she was an infant.
She lived full time with her mother, Ashley, in Lompoke.
On October 14th, the Lompok Unified School District requested a welfare check after noticing no one had seen Melody since August, despite her being in Rompocke.
enrolled in an independent study program that did require regular check-ins.
So then deputies went to the home, spoke with Ashley, but did not find melody.
Sheriff Bill Brown later said Ashley provided, quote, no verifiable explanation for her daughter's
whereabouts.
By October 18th, the FBI was involved.
Sheriff Lieutenant Chris Gottschall stated, quote,
We appreciate the FBI's assistance in today's searches in cases like this,
every detail matters.
and it is invaluable to have additional resources and specialized expertise.
Collaboration with our federal partners allows us to ensure we're using every available tool
to help bring a resolution to this case, end quote.
With the FBI involved, Ashley was given 72 hours to produce her daughter, Melody, or face
arrests, and that deadline, it came and went.
It's why it's surprising no arrest has been made, because even when they needed access to
the residence during the search for an extended time detectives escorted Ashley to an alternate
location, yet they did not even detain her. They just escorted her off the property. On Thursday,
October 30th, when those new search warrants were executed, video shows Ashley being escorted
off her property with the help of the FBI while a search of her home began. But again,
no arrest. During that search, neighbor shared videos of what looked to be camera flashes coming
from the garage.
Photos of CSI and FBI members at the home were also shared on social media.
Two of Melody's aunts joined News Nation that night to talk about what they knew about the
searches of the property.
Corinna Meza is Melody's sister and Elizabeth Meza is Melody's aunt.
Thank you both of you so much for being with me tonight.
Obviously, there's a lot of breaking information that's happening and this search is going on right now
at Ashley Bezzard's house.
There's a canine search at the house.
They're searching a storage locker.
They're also searching the rental car.
Are police or authorities keeping you in the loop as to any of what's going on?
Not really.
We spoke to the news girl that's been following it.
She called and just let us know what was going on.
And that Ashley was actually not arrested or detained.
She was moved out of the home so they could search.
But as far as detectives, we've called left messages, and they haven't returned any calls.
So we've been in the dark.
So what do you make of this imagery that we've got now?
The FBI is there.
We've seen plain clothes, police officers showing up and taking her with a packed bag in a van.
Do you have any idea what might be going on here?
No idea. I mean, they must have probable cause to, you know, be searching, obviously.
Maybe she said something. I mean, I don't know. It's all speculation at this point.
We're just waiting for her to let us know where Malady is so we could bring her home safe.
I mean, that is the goal of everyone. The police who are working on this, the neighbors who are keeping an eye on what's going on out in front of that house.
There was that other video that I just played early on about showing Ashley Buzzard taking down all of those missing child posters that were out on the front, you know, front sidewalk out in front of her house.
It just breaks my heart to see video like this, and I can't imagine what this is like for you guys.
It was extremely hard to watch that because, you know, I know my niece went out there, my mother-in-law and family members and put signs up there.
Not only for the community to see it, but for Ashley to remember, you know, that you have this beautiful daughter and we want her back.
We want her safe.
And for her to just rip them down like they didn't mean anything, it's definitely heartbreaking.
So I am curious about what you said about those who set those posters up.
Do you know specifically who put the posters out that she's tearing down?
Not like exactly which ones.
My name's Karina did.
I myself did put a poster up.
So do either of you know if Ashley put any of those posters up?
I mean, it's her daughter.
And I've been in this business a long time.
You cannot keep a mother away from the press or police when their child is missing.
They're clamoring for attention.
They're clamming for information.
They're handing out the flyers themselves.
They are not tearing signs down.
Yeah, no, she did not put any of those up.
She didn't, but she ripped them all down.
That's really distressing to see that.
And again, here's this other video of the van showing up with the officers.
Are the neighbors able to give you any further information about what they could hear?
Because you can see some of the neighbors out front there, and they're sort of within earshot of what's happening.
Were they able to shed any information about what happened when these officers?
Well, I'm going to just call them what.
appear to be officers, because we don't know for sure if they're officers.
But did you hear anything about what was said?
Like the conversation that they had with her?
Well, either the conversation they had with her, or could anybody hear out on the street or the sidewalk
what these officers were saying when they were on location?
No, I haven't heard of anything what they were talking about or to her.
No, they wouldn't.
The officers wouldn't even respond when they were asked what agency they were from.
They wouldn't even respond to the question.
And no one could overhear what was being said to Ashley,
either as they were arriving or doing this, taking her out?
Not that I'm aware of.
So, Corinna and Elizabeth, let me know about the past,
because this is not the first time that Ashley Buzzard has had troubles
and has had melody taken away from her.
Can you walk me back to those days and what happened when it was and what the circumstances were when Melody was taken away from her?
I'm not sure on like the exact reasons why she was taken away.
I can only speak on what when I talked to Ashley previously on why her other child was taken away.
But as far as why Melody was, I'm not sure I was told it was because she attempted suicide and she her mental state was.
completely unstable and her it was just declining and so that's why she was taken away
but that's what I was told and Corinna as her sister this has got to be so
heartbreaking I think I've read accounts in the past that you have made overtures you've
knocked on the door you've asked if you could help if there's something that you can do
if if your sister Melody has everything she needs can you walk me through some of
experiences? Yeah, so I just been trying to make contact with Ashley to get
answers and hoping that she would tell me something as to where melody may be
or if she's okay. And did you get any kind of response at all? No. What happened
when you knocked on the door? Would she actually come to the door? Would she talk
through the door? Would she open the door? Like I
Describe for me what your interactions were like.
So there was one interaction that I did have with her.
Going to the door, I was knocking.
I waited for her to come out.
I was probably there for about 30 minutes.
She finally came out to do the laundry,
and that is when the news reporter caught in on camera
that I went and spoke with Ashley.
asking her if she's okay if Melody's okay there's anything I can do for them.
She did not answer any questions regarding Melody
only to let me know that
everything has been hard on her and her mental health and that she didn't appreciate
all the attention all the attention she's been getting and the fact that I was
there and knocking at the door when she didn't want to answer.
Did she seem hostile towards you?
No, she doesn't really have like much emotion.
Like very just straight face, like no emotion at all.
And Melody's relatives have been outspoken, especially her aunts, who appeared on
News Nation after the search of the property to discuss their growing fears about Ashley's mental health
and their limited contact with Melody before she vanished. And what they knew about the FBI's
searches of the properties. Their message has been consistent. They want answers and they want
Melody found. What were your first thoughts when you saw this image? I was totally numb and in shock.
This is just so shocking to me and that my granddaughter is dressed in the disguise. This is just so
overwhelming. It's just so really scary. The latest photo released of Ashley Buzzard and her daughter,
Melody, is reported to be from a rental car business in Lompoke on October 7th, just before the two
headed out on a multi-state road trip. It's one of several surveillance images released by the
Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office as detectives piece together, the family's route and timeline.
We know that Melody was still with Ashley on that return trip, as close as, as, you know,
the Colorado, Utah border on the Colorado side on October 9th. So this does very much shorten
our timeline, our search timeline, as well as the area of the search. Sheriff's spokesperson,
Raquel Zick, says an out-of-state license plate was added to the rental car at some point during
the trip. We originally were looking for a Chevy Malibu with California plates. Now we're looking
for a Chevroo Malibu with California or New York plates or possibly something else.
Zick tells me investigators have reached out to law enforcement in Colorado, Utah, Arizona, Nevada, and Southern California to help locate Melody.
Lori Miranda believes her daughter and granddaughter may have crossed paths with people she and Ashley's father once knew in those states.
You're saying that her father's family, his people and my family.
And your family are along those routes.
Utah.
Utah.
Yeah, Utah, when you start getting past Utah coming back, that's when you're running.
it to his friends. Lompoke school officials reported Melody missing in mid-October.
Authorities say Ashley has been uncooperative with investigators and has not provided any information
on her daughter's whereabouts. Last week, the FBI executed a search warrant at Ashley's home
as part of ongoing evidence gathering. Miranda believes Ashley knows where Melody is. It is pleading
for her to speak up. You need to tell them where the baby is. You need to tell them who's
setting all these things up for you. I know you're not doing it.

And then this week came the news that investigators confirmed that during the trip, this road trip,
the license plate on the rental car Ashley had rented was switched from California plates to New York
plates before being switched back before returning the rental car.
Santa Barbara Sheriff's office says that the license plate switch came sometime around October 8th,
although they aren't sure on the specifics, or let's be honest.
they're maybe not letting the public know any more specifics. We don't know, right? But one thing is
certain. They believe the plate change was used in an effort to avoid detection. On top of that,
again, we now know that Melody was seen on October 9th along the Colorado, Utah border. That adds
two days to the timeline we initially laid out. That same day, October 9th, investigators believe
Ashley traveled through the following areas, which includes, again, Green River, Utah,
Pankowich, Utah, northwest Arizona, Prim Nevada, and Rancho Cucamonga, California.
So let's talk about these areas. The Utah-Colada border would be on the way back to California.
So would Green River, Utah. Although rural, it makes sense. Green River, Utah makes sense if you're
heading home to California. But when we get to Pinguich, Utah, it's a detour. It's not the
fastest route one would typically take to head back to Santa Barbara County, California.
I've done a map comparison of the two routes you can take. Take a look at this first map,
which is not the route Ashley took. Going from Green River through northwest Arizona,
prim and Rancho Cucamonga to Lompocke takes about 13 and a half hours, which is around 820 miles.
Going that route, she'd go from I-70 to I-15 and stay there as she made her way back to Lompoke.
However, if we take a look at the route Ashley did take, according to law enforcement,
first, increases travel time by about 30 minutes and 31 miles.
Second, like I said, it is a detour.
She would go from I-70 to the 89 down to Pangewich and then she would have to go north
to get back up towards I-15.
So it is, again, a complete detour, a scenic detour, I might add.
if her motive was to see the majestic red rock. It's beautiful, but I'm not too sure scenery was on her
agenda. Pinguich is near National Parks, close to Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park. Mostly,
it is very near Bryce Canyon. It's a more scenic drive, a more isolated drive. It definitely
would be a route to avoid detection. It's near the Dixie National Forest.
Anguish is a red flag for me. When it comes to northwest Arizona, I would like to know more specifics
because it could mean a lot of things. But according to the map, the law enforcement provided,
take a look here. They suggest the route Ashley took through northwest Arizona was an area
between St. George, Utah, and Las Vegas, Nevada. I'm familiar with this drive, as I used to be
a reporter in this area. And you do travel through a corner of northwest Arizona.
Arizona through a winding mountain gorge when driving through Las Vegas to reach California.
That is most likely why northwest Arizona is mentioned, and it makes the most sense.
Police are asking anyone who was in this area and the other key areas mentioned between October 9th and 10th to review dash cam and security footage.
This is honestly becoming similar to the search for Gabby Petito, where fellow travelers found Brian Laundry's van, which then led police to finding Gabby.
But I want to speculate for a bit here about maybe some other possible areas because it's odd to me that Las Vegas, while it is shown on the map offered by the sheriff's office as the likely route, law enforcement did not specifically mention Las Vegas as a key location or as a place they know Ashley traveled through on the way back to California on the 9th.
They only mentioned prim Nevada, not Las Vegas.
And so that makes me wonder, makes me speculate,
if Ashley could have possibly avoided Las Vegas as well after detouring to Pangewich.
Again, just speculating.
I think I've said that enough now.
But if Ashley possibly avoided going through Las Vegas on her drive back to California on October 9th,
that would put her in the direction of the Grand Canyon.
She'd have gone from Pangwich for the Gras,
toward the Grand Canyon and then to Prim.
I just want to point this out.
We put some locations in maps here.
This is the different detours, different ways, different routes.
And I just want to point out, why do I know this area so well?
Well, as a 19-year-old, I used to work as a waitress
and I cleaned cabins just outside the north rim of the Grand Canyon
to save money for college.
Right in this area.
Years later, I was a reporter covering northwest Arizona.
And you won't believe where I just traveled a couple of weeks ago to take some time off and avoid my phone and screen.
I visited Penguins, Utah, Bryce Canyon, Zion National Park, and the North Rim of the Grand Canyon where I used to work as a college student.
We had no self-service much of the time, which was the point of our travels.
We wanted to touch some grass.
There were very few people at the Grand Canyon as the Grand Canyon is only partially open due to the Dragon Bravo Wildfire.
It's less busy than usual.
I certainly wonder,
we also went through the gorge and took the route that police show on the map that they have shown the public.
And yes, I have compared the dates.
We were off on our dates, but I still checked, and it's chilling to consider that I was recently at every key location police are asking about.
And if you two were near, please check your dash cam and security cameras.
But look, I want to make it clear one more time.
I am speculating right now.
I am simply thrown by the detour in Pinguish, Utah, the knowledge of the area, knowing that it's rural, knowing there are not that many routes, knowing that it's isolated, and the fact that investigators are not saying whether or not Ashley and Melody were ever seen in Las Vegas or Mesquite, only mentioning northwest Arizona and prim.
But the map offered by police show the most likely route through Vegas, and hopefully we will know more soon.
soon and we will keep you updated.

The statement from the sheriff's office says, quote,
detectives have now confirmed that Melody was last seen along the return route via video surveillance on October 9th, 2025,
in the region between the Colorado, Utah border.
Investigators are working to fill gaps in the timeline.
They're working to fill these gaps for that date and are working with law enforcement agencies
in Colorado, in Utah, Arizona, Nevada, and Southern California.
for assistance in reaching the members of their communities. So again, if you are in these areas,
please check your security cameras, check your dash cam. So what happened between October 9th and when
Ashley returned home on October 10th? That's a mystery and it matters. No matter my speculating,
we don't know. It seems like whatever happened in that timeframe happened quickly with few stops
given how far they traveled. Now, many of you have asked, why hasn't Ashley been arrested?
I've been asking the same question because why give the 72-hour threat when they're not going to
follow through? It's frustrating, or at least it is for me. I'll speak for myself, but I did do some
research, and I learned that under California law, police can only detain someone for 48 hours
without charging them with a crime.
My sense is that investigators are moving strategically.
They're watching, they're gathering evidence,
and they are waiting until they can connect the dots
in a way that holds up in court.
And as Dr. John often points out in cases like this,
coercive control and psychological unraveling
can play out over months, even years,
before an active desperation occurs
where someone slips up with the tell that investigators need.
So I'm going to personally set my frustration aside.
I'm going to sit back and trust law enforcement on this move.
And why the 72-hour deadline has passed without an arrest?
I don't know.
But I'll trust the process.
So what has this mom been up to since returning home to California alone?
She ain't moving heaven and earth to get her little girl back.
I'll tell you that.
But she may be thinking of moving because yesterday, according to a neighbor,
Ashley had what looked like moving boxes delivered to her home. And she appeared to have changed her hair as well, or her wig once again.
Let me just show you the video that we can play for you that was shot right next door of Ashley, weirdly with her purse slung on her shoulder and her boots on, although not leaving the property.
Take a look at this.
Yeah, nothing suspicious there, moving boxes. For a woman who just, you know, last week was hauled.
out of that house and taken with what looked like detectives, plainclosed detectives with sidearms
in their gunholsters, got her into a vehicle and drove off with her to a quote-unquote alternate
location right before police and FBI raided her home for hours and a storage locker
and also searched the rental car that she'd been using. You may recall late last week,
this happened in Longpoke, California, right? And they did those searches, but then weirdly,
she returned.
That part was a head scratcher to me.
That alternate location after the storage locker
and all the rest?
No, she was allowed to return.
And after that, the neighbor says
that Ashley did not venture out of the house
for 72 hours.
But on Sunday, she went somewhere
in an Uber, apparently for about two hours,
according to the neighbor.
And on Monday, a sheriff's deputy was back
and knocking on her door
and said they, quote,
had something to give her, end quote.
but Ashley Buzzard, keeping in constant, you know, behavior, refuse to answer the door.
So I know what you're thinking, and no, police and the feds aren't just relying on neighbors for intelligence.
What's believed to be, plain-closed officers or agents are parked outside of Ashley's house round the clock.
Tonight, as searches continue and leads develop, one fact remains unchanged, Melody is still missing.
Every new clue, the confirmed siding, the plate swap, the expanded timeline, brings investigation.
investigators closer to the truth. But until that truth is known, one question continues to haunt the case
