Hidden True Crime - UNHINGED Phone Calls, Epic Lies & Loyal “Ride-or-Dies” Testify | Kouri Richins Trial Day 9

Episode Date: March 6, 2026

** This episode was recorded live. It contains lots of profanity repeated from court evidence, and heard in audio played by the court. Day 9 of the Kouri Richins trial delivered some of the most dra...matic moments yet. For the first time, jurors heard recorded phone calls made by Kouri herself — conversations captured while she was in custody where prosecutors say her own words may reveal key contradictions. The jury also heard testimony from a coworker and close friend who claimed Kouri once said it might be easier if Eric were dead, a statement the defense fiercely challenged with prior interview recordings. Meanwhile, several of Kouri’s longtime friends — her so-called “ride-or-dies” from junior high — took the stand, offering a deeply personal look at Kouri’s life, marriage, and behavior after Eric’s death. About Hidden True Crime What started as a simple conversation at their dinner table became a captivating podcast. Join the dynamic duo of Dr. John Matthias, a criminal psychologist, and Lauren Matthias, an investigative journalist, as they delve into the psychological facets of unthinkable crimes every week. Starting point is 00:00:00 Lately, I've been trying to be more intentional about what I wear, intentional about everything, just choosing pieces that feel effortless, still put together, timeless, but also not overthinking it every morning. It's why I keep going back to quince. Their pieces just make getting dressed easier and I feel so classy. I feel elevated. The fits are flattering. The fabric is really high quality. It's day nine of the Corey Richens trial, the woman accused of attempted murder and murder, both, in the death of her husband Eric, who the state believes she poisoned with fentanyl. And my name is Lauren Matthias, for those just joining us, and this is Hidden True Crime,
Starting point is 00:01:40 where we delve into the hidden motives of unimaginable crimes. We've been covering this trial every single day here, haven't we? It's already been two weeks, guys, bringing you the most comprehensive nightly breakdowns, so you don't have to sit through eight hours of sidebars and legalese to understand what's really happening in the courtroom. And tonight, we're going to talk about something that the jury heard for the first time. Recordings, Corey Richens made herself phone call she secretly recorded, as she thought she was being secretive, where the words, though, she now says may be some of the
Starting point is 00:02:19 most powerful evidence against her. Because in those recordings, you can actually hear Corey telling lies in her own voice. I was sitting in the courtroom today listening to these recordings. And I kept thinking to myself, I can't believe she recorded these. I mean, this was not good for her. Then there's the mic drop moment where a witness says Corey told her that she thought it would be easier if Eric were dead. Yeah, I talked about that on my lunch live. Some think it was a mic drop moment.
Starting point is 00:02:48 Others don't. We'll talk about that. The defense pushed back hard with its own recordings. Plus, we got to know Corey's right or dies. today, the women who have been by Corey's side since junior high, they were up on the stand. One of them, we learned still, still a ride or die today. And then text. We love the text here.
Starting point is 00:03:09 That's when I always say, get cozy because we're going to read through a lot of texts. And in fact, I haven't read a lot of them because we couldn't read them in court. So I actually was busy. We're a little later than typical tonight because we're working on a special project. In fact, Grayson, if you have a photo to share, and then while I was filming, Grayson was transcribing all of the texts. They're in this script. Grayson's incredible. And we're going to read through them, but I'm going to read through reading through them for the first time reading them with you.
Starting point is 00:03:47 So, and reacting texts with Corey and her friends. Her writer dies or once writer dies. Some of them were thought they were right or die. Another one still is very much a right or die. It was actually very sad to see her best friends on the stand, both emotional, one of them in particular. Very sad. So we've got texts to read.
Starting point is 00:04:10 So let's get into it. Like I said, get cozy. I have my tea. I am sitting in a more comfortable chair. I'm comfortable. I got the good chair now, the reading chair. So today, honestly started out, though, with more sidebars than testimony. And it was fascinating to be in the courtroom today.
Starting point is 00:04:32 I was there. Maybe I should share you a little bit about that. It was crowded. We got there. I did a morning live. We got there at 7 a.m. We were given wristbands. I think I still have mine on.
Starting point is 00:04:46 Yeah. Baylifts, everyone was really nice. One of the bailiffs said I looked familiar. I think he recognized me from the prelim in the year. other hearings I've attended. And it was just really crowded. I think I was surprised because usually two weeks into a trial, things start to settle down and people don't go as much. No, it was full capacity. I mean, it is a little bit of a smaller court courtroom. But nonetheless, you also have all of the Richens family that are there every day, as well as Corey's mother and
Starting point is 00:05:18 aunt and, you know, Corey's family does go every day and her friends. So that was the, the core room and it was very, very snowy and very, very cold. And so they kindly gave us our wristbands earlier to get in to sit with the public so that we wouldn't have to sit too many hours in the cold. And I was really appreciative of that. That didn't happen in a lot of other trials. One of them when I was even sleeping outside all night. So they were very kind. And and it was very cold. We were watching from windows as snow just came down throughout the day. And, you know, today started out, you know, with more. sidebars than testimony. So I was a little concerned that maybe this would be a really slow day.
Starting point is 00:05:58 And no, no, no, it was not slow. But the first witness, Marie Brownswell, who is a domestic relations attorney, that one had a lot of sidebars. She's basically a divorce law, divorce attorney. She works for Gordon Law Group and her office is located in Heber City, Utah. So Heber City is a nearby mountain community where it's actually where Corey went to high school. And again, Corey's high school friends actually testified today. It was interesting. We'll get into that. But Brownwell explained that usually someone comes into her office for an initial consultation.
Starting point is 00:06:37 If they decide they want to move forward with hiring the firm, then they pay a retainer so the attorney can officially represent them. And she told the jury that Corey Richens met with her on May 3rd, 2021 for one of those consultations. And after that meeting, they exchanged emails a few times. So Bramwell said it was about five emails total. But ultimately, Corey never actually hired her. Bramwell explained that if someone decides not to move forward with their firm, the retainer does get returned or gets refunded. So prosecutor Shrivernak introduced the reimbled.
Starting point is 00:07:15 retainer check that had been returned to Corey as evidence. And after that, Shrivenack had nothing else. That was it. So this was like a really short witness. The whole point seemed to be to show the jury that Corey had consulted a divorce attorney about a year before Eric died as well. Okay. So I guess to show the jury that Eric wasn't the only one contemplating divorce throughout the marriage. And then defense attorney Lewis got up for cross-examination. Lewis pulled up Ramwell's website biography and pointed something out to the jury. And the bio says Bramwell practices in a bunch of different areas of law, not just divorces. It listed things like water law, boundary disputes, assessments, easements, property issues, child welfare contracts, criminal defense,
Starting point is 00:08:00 landlord, tenant issues, civil litigation. Lewis didn't spend too long on this. She was just kind of basically highlighting that Bramwell does more than divorce law, right? I guess that's reasonable doubt here. And then she too was done. And then on redirect, Shrivenat came back up and asked one more question. She asked Bramwell if she was actually handling all those different types of cases back in 2021 when she met with Corey. And Bramwell said, no. At the time, she said she was primarily practicing domestic relations, meaning divorce and family law. And that was it, when is done. And then after that, surprise like clockwork, the attorneys had a very long sidebar discussion outside the presence of the jury.
Starting point is 00:08:43 Let's fun to see all the attorneys, by the way, in the courtroom today. They're great. All of them. You know, I will say, though, that Bloodsworth, he looks like he should be like, you know, in the movie Clue. It's just cool looking, you know, like there's just something like, you know, or maybe you should have a British accent. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:09:04 But he looks apart. His name suits him. Anyway, so they have a very long sidebar discussion outside the presence of the jury. So the jury goes back and then this part was all about jail calls. The defense does not want the jail calls played for the jury, or at least they want parts of them redacted before they come in as evidence, right? And the prosecution obviously wants them in. So the jury ended up hearing the first recorded phone call between Corey and her brother Ronnie, although they didn't share who Ronnie was. and these calls were recorded while Corey had been in custody,
Starting point is 00:09:39 although they also didn't share that either. So in the call, Corey sounds pretty annoyed about the prosecution bringing up the fact that she met with a divorced attorney. She's frustrated that the state is trying to use that against her. And during the conversation, she tells Ronnie, who, again, the jury didn't know it was Ronnie, just a male. The area could actually seen a divorced attorney first. So take a listen to this.
Starting point is 00:10:03 Well, let's listen to the call. I was so excited for this call this whole time because there were so many sidebars and so much discussion about this call and so much fighting about whether it could even be played. So, I mean, my expectations were through the roof. I thought it was a little anticomatic, but still it is interesting. Take a listen. Obviously. Who's crazy? Like, I'm like, what the hell are you talking about?
Starting point is 00:10:28 Like, who gives me shit? Yeah. Obviously, in one party, you're going to do it. The other party is probably going to do it to see what the fuck. Right. And it's like... Like common sense. You know, regarding your side of the stuff, nothing came out of that.
Starting point is 00:10:49 What came out of the other side? Exactly. Oh, it's illegal transfer everything. Yes, exactly. A lot came out of that. Yes, I just went in for a consultation. That was it. Yep.
Starting point is 00:11:04 So why is that so bad? Am I misunderstanding something? No. it's just something they're going to try to probably try to hold against you you know for no fucking reason
Starting point is 00:11:24 because he did it first yeah he did it first and not only did he do it first he actually took action on it illegally yes all I did was what the hell am I supposed to do
Starting point is 00:11:40 that was literally the conversation yeah so you know that person was probably going to probably going to be brought in. Which is perfect. Because you know what I told that person?
Starting point is 00:11:57 Which is... I want to fill out the packet. I don't want absolutely anything. I want to walk away clean and free. I don't want anything. And she kept advice me, no, that's not how they work. You have to fill this out about that-da-da-da. And I said, I don't want to.
Starting point is 00:12:17 I don't want any of it. Yep. That is what I told that lady. I said, I just want to be done. And he's perfect with me. forever. I took the packet. I threw it away.
Starting point is 00:12:30 I'm like, no. I won't go with that. Because I don't want to have everything. I mean, you know. Yeah, I was like so fucking annoyed by it though. Like, quit portraying me to be this person. Yeah. Anything you're trying to say I did?
Starting point is 00:12:51 Eric did. Like, so now they can't please tell you around, you fucking idiot. Like, protecting myself. Yeah, I wouldn't get. Hmm. Hmm. Well, it's too, uh, too words out about it. Yeah, I'm not, but that just gave me an idea.
Starting point is 00:13:14 I am going to ask if she could, if she can testify. Well, just get to Tina and to be honest, their attorneys don't do it. Yeah, you're not. Yeah. But I don't know. I'm just, I'm just annoyed. I told mom, I said, three. Because they're going to try to paint this picture.
Starting point is 00:13:45 We're going to try to paint this picture and like, oh, no. picture and like, oh, no. Yeah. Nope. Here she is. What she asked about? What do you advise her? What should say no to? Well, yeah, I don't know. They thought like that. They thought about it, but just so it's everybody's natural. All right. So I don't know what you guys thought of that. I thought it was a little
Starting point is 00:14:14 anticlimactic after all the arguing back and forth and objections. But the state did say that their reason for this call was to essentially show her state of mind and then even said consciousness of guilt. So interesting. Most people don't realize how much their personal information is being bought and sold every day. Data brokers are making billions, pulling details about you from public records and the internet, and then packaging and selling it, usually without your consent. After the jury heard that first jail call between Corey and her brother Ronnie, the state called their next witness. And this was Becky Lloyd. Becky was a lot more interesting to me.
Starting point is 00:16:38 Becky, and I think she was a lot more interesting to all of you, too. Becky told the jury that she's worked for C&E Stone Masonry for about five years. And her role there is an estimator. So basically, her job is to calculate how much stone is needed for jobs when they're putting stone on houses. And she said when she first started at the company in February 2021, Becky also explained that she knew both Eric and Corey before she started working there and met them sometime around 2017. Prosecutor Shevannac asked Becky what her relationship with Corey was like in 2021. And Becky described it as actually pretty friendly. she said she knew Corey as a neighbor, the mother of her children's friends, and she also
Starting point is 00:17:19 considered her a friend. And then Shevannack asked Becky about a conversation she had with Corey on December 17th, 2021. Becky said that date stood out to her because she remembers it clearly. She keeps a journal and she even had a photo from that day. So this was absolutely this date. She explained that she and Corey were doing gift wrapping for C&E Stone Masonry. They were preparing gifts that the company planned to pass out to families in the community. And then while they were wrapping gifts, the conversation turned to Corey and Eric's marriage. Becky told the jury that she had actually gone through a divorce herself just a few months earlier.
Starting point is 00:17:56 So because of that, Corey started asking her questions about how the divorce process had been going and they ended up talking about their relationships. Becky said Corey told her that she and Eric had gotten into a fight that same day. so it was fresh on her mind, really fresh. So according to Becky, Corey explained that there was a work event coming up that she was really excited about. She felt like it would be a good opportunity for her career. But at the same time, Eric had already planned a family sleigh ride for them and the kids. And the two events conflicted, the family sleigh ride and this work event.
Starting point is 00:18:32 And they could not agree on what they should do. Becky said Corey described feeling trapped in the marriage. She said Corey told her she felt like there wasn't an easy way forward or a way out. Corey also expressed concerns about the kids. According to Becky, she said she worried that Eric could take the children from her and that his family might turn the community against her. And then Becky testified that during that conversation, Corey said that in many ways it would be better if Eric were dead.
Starting point is 00:19:04 Microw. That was their moment. you could tell the prosecution really wanted that to be stated. Becky described the conversation as serious and heartfelt. She said she could tell Corey was really struggling emotionally when they were talking about this. And Shevernaq asked Becky what her reaction was to hearing something like that. And Becky said to her, it just showed how far off track the marriage had gotten and how serious the situation seemed. She said that she felt bad for both of them.
Starting point is 00:19:35 And after that, Chevronach said she had no further questions. So, as you can imagine, it's a pretty powerful statement for the jury to hear, right? I gave my opinions about it on lunch life. Some of you agreed. Some of you disagreed with me. It was good to talk it out. The prosecution, they're clearly trying to build a timeline showing growing marital problems and statements that could suggest motive long before Eric died.
Starting point is 00:20:02 you guys have to watch Corey's facial expressions during this had to go back and watch them. I mean, she was absolutely not happy, the opposite of happy that Becky shared this information. It was like she was trying to signal to the jury. Can you believe this? I didn't say that. I mean, if looks could kill.
Starting point is 00:20:28 I feel like there's two looks for Corey, adhering headlights and meek and totally stressed out because like reality's hitting her or just the death stare. I mean, very similar look that she gave Carmen Lauber. So take a look at it. She found out how she was feeling trapped. She was feeling like there wasn't an easy way forward out of the marriage. She felt like she was worried about her kids. She was worried that she was going to lose them and that Eric was going to take the kids from her. And that, that his family was going to turn the community against her. And she said that in many ways it would be better if he were dead.
Starting point is 00:21:17 What was the tone of Corey's voice during that conversation? It was serious. She definitely had a very serious tone. We weren't really joking. It was a very honest conversation and a very heartfelt conversation. You could tell from her body language that, you know, she was frustrated and she was struggling with where she was at. I was serious tone.
Starting point is 00:21:39 What was your reaction to Corey saying it would be better if Eric were dead? To me, it really signified just how far their marriage was off track and how serious the situation was. And I felt bad for both of them. That's a heavy conversation. I don't have any other questions for you. Thank you. Thank you. Yeah, man. Corey Richens is not happy there, is she? So the defense attorney Nestor steps up for
Starting point is 00:22:12 cross examination. You saw her there get up. First, I mean, this is probably one of the best cross exams there's been so far. First, Nestor starts by establishing the relationship between Becky and Corey. Becky explains that Corey was the one who helped her get the job at C&E, Stone Masonry. Corey served as her reference when Becky applied there. And then Nestor asked about Corey's role at the company while Becky worked there. And Becky said that, yes, Corey was on the payroll and she was receiving a paycheck every couple of weeks. But Becky added something else. She said that after Eric died, Corey actually called and told them to stop sending her those checks.
Starting point is 00:22:50 And then Nestor went back to focusing on that December 17th, 2021 conversation that the prosecution had just hired. highlighted that Corey Richens herself highlighted by her looks there. Becky explained again that the two of them were wrapping gifts at C&E Stone Masonry to give out to families in the community who were less fortunate. It was basically a charity type effort. And during that time, they were talking pretty openly. Becky described it as girl talk. She said Corey trusted her because Becky again had previously confided in her about her own marriage and the fact that her husband had been unfaithful. so Becky said Corey felt comfortable opening up and talking about her own relationship struggles with Eric. So then Nestor started getting into Becky's prior interviews about this conversation.
Starting point is 00:23:41 She asked Becky if she had spoken with a private investigator hired by the Richens family about the conversation she had with Corey. Becky confirmed that she had. And that first interview happened on April 6th. Nestor then pointed out that during that first interview with the private investigator, Becky never mentioned the comment about it being better if Eric were dead. Becky responded that she didn't recall whether she had said that or not during that first interview, so Nestor kept going. She pointed out that Becky had a second interview nearly two years later in March
Starting point is 00:24:13 2024. And during that interview, the private investigator apparently told Becky something along the lines of, I understand you've talked to Katie and there was something you forgot to tell me when we first met about a statement Corey made. And that's when the statement came up about Eric being better off dead. Becky agreed that this was discussed during that second interview. And then Nestor pushed a little further. She asked Becky if she remembered telling the investigator that she couldn't get up on the stand
Starting point is 00:24:41 and definitively say that Corey made the statement. And Becky responded very firmly that she did not remember saying that. So at this point, that was Nestor's moment. And she said, okay, well, if you don't remember, we're going to look at that recording. So the defense has their own recordings. Nestor tried to pull up the audio recording of Becky's interview with the investigator. Prosecution objected and argued that if Becky needed her memory refresh, that could be done. But that wasn't the same thing as playing the recording outright.
Starting point is 00:25:20 Nestor pushed back and said, no, this wasn't about refreshing recollection anymore. Becky had just denied making that statement so she could be impeached with this recording, meaning lose her credibility. That led to another sidebar discussion between the attorneys and the judge, and then we were just all waiting. They're like, come on, we want to see this recording, just play the recording. So then after that sidebar, the judge ultimately ruled the recording could be admitted, allowing the defense to play this recording.
Starting point is 00:25:49 Let's listen to this recording of Becky Loi. Let's listen. And this part, I swear she said it, but I also feel like if you put me on the stand, I would not be confident enough to actually truly know if she said it, but I swear she said in many ways it would be better if he just died. That's true. Because, and I remember thinking, the reason I think, is that your voice? That is my voice.
Starting point is 00:26:19 And you did say that you wouldn't be able to swear to it on the stand, didn't you? I wouldn't be confident in that, yes. Okay. And then if we could play the second clip. To the person pointing out that there are a lot of redheads in this town, yeah, I'm with you. I'm thinking the same thing. Josh and Eric and the Richens and now Becky, I mean, yeah, a lot of redheads in this town. You're right.
Starting point is 00:27:05 So I'm curious. So I'll be honest, right after that, Grayson and I talked about it. I was more doubtful. I thought, you know, I think she does believe that she heard that, but I don't know if Corey really said it, where Grayson thinks that she absolutely believes Becky and that it was maybe a trauma block. And I kind of shared this in my lunch live and you guys had some varying comments. So I'd like to take a poll. And let me be clear, too. I don't think she's lying. I just wonder if it's like, sort of like a reclaimed memory. Like she believes it now, but maybe Corey really didn't say it, even though Becky believes she did. But Grayson thinks, no, she believes her. It was just a trauma block.
Starting point is 00:27:50 And she knows that Corey said it, and she just couldn't believe it. Oh, and Grayson thinks she had a lot of guilt too. So I just want to know, do you guys believe that Corey said this? Or do you think that maybe it is doubtful? I mean, I don't know. I just am more, like,
Starting point is 00:28:07 I don't think she necessarily, Um, Corey necessarily said this, but here's the thing for me, it didn't matter as much to me as it did to other people. Um, you know, I still think, uh, it was a pretty powerful testimony from Becky that Corey was sharing her marital issues and she wanted out. To me, that was motive and was powerful on its own. 83% right now say yes that the, you do believe that Corey Richon said that. There you go. Let that simmer for a little bit. Yeah. Okay, let's keep going. Most people don't realize how much their personal information is being bought and sold every day. No. My testimony is, well, it is very difficult to say such a thing when someone that you care deeply about has been leveled with such charges. It is very difficult. So that is why it didn't come up in the first interview.
Starting point is 00:30:08 it is a very difficult position to be here on the stand saying things like this. I don't want to be here. No one has supplied my testimony to me. No one has made me say anything about that. No one has supplied words to me. I know that that happened. And it is unfortunate that it happened because I don't want to be here saying it. But I know that that is what was said. And in fact, the friend you're talking about is Katie Richards, right? Oh, absolutely not. Absolutely not. Didn't you discuss this statement with Katie Richards? And Katie's the one who sent you to the private investigator. Katie is the one that made the private investigator aware of it, but that is not who I had the conversation with about it as far as the truth of the statement. But you did have a conversation with
Starting point is 00:30:48 Katie about it. I did. Okay. And then you also had a conversation with some other friends who helped refresh your memory about what you might have said. They confirmed what I said. They did not apply a sentence to me. They did not do anything like that. They just helped me do a hard thing. Okay. And who did you tell about this statement prior to reporting it? Besides your friends and Katie and the private investigator. What do you mean? Did you tell anybody else?
Starting point is 00:31:23 I told my friends. I told my partner. I told the investigator, Katie. I don't recall who else. And this was all in 2024 when you brought it up to the investigative. Gator, my friend conversation would have been in 2021 right about the exact same, probably within a couple days of that conversation initially with Corey. And you would agree that if Corey was planning to kill her husband 60 days later, it probably wouldn't be a really smart thing for her to say to
Starting point is 00:31:57 you, hey, it'd be better off if he were dead, would it? Now make your objection, that the question is complete. Go ahead. You can answer. Say it again. Please. so sorry. If Corey Richens was planning to kill her husband in about 70 days after she made that statement to you, it wouldn't be a really smart thing to tell someone like you, hey, it'd be better off if he were dead, would it? Actually, be honest, calls for speculation. Do you have an opinion about that? Same objection. Doesn't call for speculate. Okay. Did you ever ask Corey directly? What did you mean when you said that to me on December 17th? No. You never gave her the opportunity to explain whether she was just venting, whether she was joking, whether she was serious. Unfortunately, no. And you had a long time to do that before you reported it to this investigator, didn't you? As a friend. I suppose so. Yeah. That's all I have, thank.
Starting point is 00:33:01 I thought that was so interesting when she said, I don't want to be here. I can only imagine. Well, Shevernaq, after that, went back on redirect and asked Becky, of course, was joking when she said it would be better if Eric was dead. Becky said no. Nestor immediately objected for speculation and Judge Marazek sustained the objection, instructing that Becky's no answer be stricken because she can't know what someone else was thinking. Makes sense. She everneck then asked about Corey's tone of voice. Becky said it was serious. Corey wasn't laughing or smiling and she had no reason to believe it was a joke. Nestor asked one final question asking weather they were drinking during the conversation. Becky said they had had one beverage. And the next witness, he was one of my favorites today. The next witness was Gabe Morin,
Starting point is 00:33:51 Gabe owns and operates a restaurant in Camus called the Mere Lake Diner. Bloodworth introduced a document showing transaction records from February 14th, 2020. At 9.07 a.m. There was a to-go order that had been called in. So this is the attempted murder. This is really important. Setting the stage for Valentine's Day, the attempted murder date. So there was a to-go order that had been called in and then paid for in person when it was picked up. The jury was shown the receipt for that transaction along with an audit record for the order, which listed Corey's name on the to-go order. So after that, Bloodworth said he had no further questions. That was it. In other words, oh, is this where the sandwich came from, the Mir Lake Diner?
Starting point is 00:34:36 Nestor got up for Cross and pulled the receipt back up on the screen. The order included a Greek omelet, a bagel sandwich, and a quinoa salad. And she started by confirming the restaurant has had a similar menu items on the menu for a long time and more in agreed. They haven't changed that Greek salad since it started, he explained, as we all started getting really hungry. She then asked what's in the Greek omelette. and he explained that his Greek omelet has feta cheese, spinach, calamata olives, and eggs. It comes with a choice of a side, which in this case was the quinoa salad. And he mentioned that you can get the soup or the quinoa salad free of charge and switch that side.
Starting point is 00:35:22 They then talked about the bagel sandwich, the bagel sandwich. And Morin said it's made with a New York bagel, bacon, egg, overhard, cheese, avocado, tomato, and the cheese bean pepper jack. It's packaged in a styrofoam container and comes with hash browns. And we're all getting really hungry. And Nestor then pointed out that since it's a hot sandwich, you probably wouldn't want to eat it cold because that would be kind of gross. I see where Nestor's going right.
Starting point is 00:35:49 If this is the sandwich, the Valentine's Day sandwich that she left in Eric's car for him to take a bite of, which caused him to be concerned that Corey poisoned him and to take an epi shot, then wouldn't you want this hot breakfast sandwich, hot, right? I mean, that's, that's a good place to go. I give the defense that. Morin agreed, but he added that sometimes people don't pick up their to-go orders right away, so they might end up eating it cold anyway. But that Corey certainly picked it up hot. She also asked him to clarify the timing on the receipt. He explained that the order was called
Starting point is 00:36:26 in at 8.55 a.m. and then picked up and paid for at 907 a.m. And then after that, Nestor said she had no further questions, and Morin was dismissed. But I have to say this. I can't imagine that Gabe was looking forward to testifying at this murder trial in front of thousands of people. He's a business owner. He's owned this Mir Lake Diner for 13 years. But one thing I will say he did is up in that stand, he did a hell of an advertisement for his diner. I certainly am going to try to go there tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:36:58 It sounded delicious. We were all very hungry. And I also want to point out again, it was a very important witness. So I'm glad that Gabe came. This is where they're going to claim this this bagel sandwich comes from on Valentine's Day that Corey allegedly used to poison her husband, an attempted murder charge. The next witness to follow up with that setting the stage testimony was Josh K's. And Josh explained, so another Josh, not to be confused with yesterday's Josh, new Josh. So new Josh.
Starting point is 00:37:29 This is Eric's friend Josh because this Josh explained. that he first met Eric back in 2014 through mutual friends. And at first they only hung out a couple of times. But in 2016, Josh started working in Park City for a builder. And Eric was one of the subcontractors he worked with pretty regularly over that point on. And then over time, that working relationship turned into a friendship. They played rec sports together. They realized they both loved camping and hunting.
Starting point is 00:37:57 So they really bonded over that. They ended up being bros. And they actually went on a few hunting trips together. Bloodworth asked how often they talked during the last year of Eric's life. And Josh said at least every other week. But during the fall, when they were out hunting together, just the two of them, they talked a lot more. When you're out in the woods like that with just one other person, you end up getting to know your hunting buddy pretty well. Because there's really no one else to talk to.
Starting point is 00:38:24 That was a really solid point. That actually hit home to me. I'm like, yeah, these two talked. And so, Bloodworth then asked Josh what Eric was like as a person. person. It was very kind what Josh said about his friend, that he described him as very outgoing and confident and just a really fun person to be around. He said Eric had this magnetic personality and that he was not shy. He said he was competitive, especially when it came to sports and extremely dependable. Josh even said Eric was one of the best subcontractors he had ever worked with. If Eric
Starting point is 00:38:57 said he was going to do something, he did it. He never forgot and the job always got done. If he said he'd be somewhere, he showed up. Josh said Eric was just very responsible. Bloodworth also asked if Josh had ever seen Eric sick or injured. Josh said no. He also said he had never seen Eric use over-the-counter drugs, prescription drugs or illegal drugs, and he never had any indication that Eric used drugs at all. Then Bloodworth asked if Josh remember getting a call from Eric on Valentine's Day in 2022. Josh said yes, and he remembered it clearly because the tone of that conversation was completely different from any conversation he'd ever had with Eric before.
Starting point is 00:39:40 He said Eric sounded somber. That was actually an adjective he kept using again and again somber. And if you knew Eric, Josh explained, that was unusual because he was normally upbeat and joking around, a lot of ribbing going on between the bros. But this call, this call was different. Eric sounded very serious and sincere. Josh said he had never heard him sound like this before. And based on what Eric told him during that call,
Starting point is 00:40:08 Josh said he had offered Eric some advice and suggestions. Okay, it's fair. And at that point, the defense objected and there was a sidebar. This is really interesting to me because I actually thought it was a fair question to ask. I'll tell you what I think was happening here. But after that, Bloodworth changed directions a bit and asked Josh a few yes or no questions. He asked if, based on that conversation he had with Eric, if Josh had asked Eric if he was okay now. Josh said, yes, he did ask that.
Starting point is 00:40:39 Ludworth asked if he asked Eric whether he was going to go to the hospital. Josh said, yes again. Then he asked if Josh asked Eric if he was going, what he was going to do about the situation. And Josh confirmed that he did ask that to Eric. And after that call, Bloodworth. asked if Josh told anyone else about this conversation with Eric. Josh said he did. He told his wife about it that same night. And then he, a few days later, mentioned it to two mutual friends of his and Eric's. And at some point, after Eric's death, he also talked about that call with Cody Wright,
Starting point is 00:41:17 Eric's business partner. Lutterworth then asked Josh if Cody had received a similar call from Eric and whether it was consistent with the one Josh had. Well, the defense immediately objected on speculation. The judge sustained it. And after that, Bloodworth said he had no further questions and the defense didn't have any other questions either. So clearly, I think reading between the lines,
Starting point is 00:41:40 I don't know if the jury's going to pick it up, I think they will. We learned that Eric probably called Josh to say he thought he was poisoned and that he was worried about going to the hospital. The defense is, going to object to this because they're going to say it's hearsay. Eric's dead. We can't ask Eric what he really said to Josh. So they're going to say it's hearsay. I thought that Bloodworth did a
Starting point is 00:42:03 great job just saying, did you have any suggestions for Eric? I was surprised that the objection was sustained there, but we did learn through yes or no questions that he was so concerned he asked if he would go to the hospital. And I think the jury is certainly picking up what the prosecution is trying to put down there, right? That Eric called his buddy Josh to say, look, I think my wife's, I think I've been poisoned. I'm not okay. I wonder if my wife's doing something. But we don't know for sure. We're left speculating. Filling in the gaps there. And I want to say, sometimes I think that filling in the gaps for a jury does help, like not knowing what that conversation was about. Our minds can now wander and wonder. What did he say? Did he,
Starting point is 00:42:50 Did Eric say, I think my wife poisoned me? We can't know because they left us a lot of blanks to fill in ourselves. And sometimes our mind can do a better job filling in those blanks than even what actually was said. So I think the jury will get that witness. And the next witness was someone else. So we are hearing from another Chelsea. But this time, we're hearing from Chelsea Barney. So we've heard from Chelsea Gibson.
Starting point is 00:43:18 She was on the stand for three days. So do not confuse. Chelsea Barney with Chelsea Gibson and the prosecution did at one point. They said, sorry, not Chelsea Gibson, Chelsea Barney. Chelsea Barney is completely different. Chelsea Barney is one of Corey's writer-dice or was. It was sad to see her on the stand, honestly. It was heartbreaking to hear her testify, a best friend of murder trial.
Starting point is 00:43:44 So essentially, Chelsea has known Corey since junior high. They've known each other for over 20 years. And they talk every day, if not every other day. And Chelsea considers Corey her very, very best friend. As far as seeing each other, just every day, how often they saw each other, varied because they both had children. Chelsea back then had three kids. She now has four children. We've learned.
Starting point is 00:44:14 But kids schedules mattered. So sometimes it was a couple times a week, sometimes once a month. they traveled together occasionally and Chelsea said she considered Corey her best friend. So Bloodworth asked Chelsea if she was aware that Corey had taken out a $250,000 home equity line of credit on the house that she lived in. Chelsea said yes, she knew about it. She said she first learned about it in early October of 2020 when they were on a trip to Sun Valley with some other friends. And during that trip, Corey told her that Eric had found out, she took the loan out on the house and was really upset about it.
Starting point is 00:44:55 According to Chelsea, Corey said Eric had turned off her credit cards after he found out. That's kind of big. Eric turned off her credit cards after he found out. Because of that, Corey asked some of the friends on the trip if they could cover the cost of her portion, and she said she would reimburse them later when she could. Chelsea said Corey told them she'd used the loan to buy a house, that she planned to flip and then sell. And after that, Bloodworth displayed an exhibit showing a text exchange between Chelsea
Starting point is 00:45:27 and Corey from October 14th. And here's this text exchange. And like I explained, I was in court watching this. Could not see all the texts. Grayson has transcribed them here. And I'm going to read them with all of you for the first time together. Let's do this. Let's do this already?
Starting point is 00:45:46 Okay. So Corey says, call you in 10 minutes. Chelsea. Like what the fuck, friend, I'm freaking out. Ha, ha. Corey. Ha, ha. You're so funny, friend.
Starting point is 00:45:59 Everything's going to be just fine. But if I die, Eric did it. Crazy though, right? I don't know what to do. If he thinks I owe him money, then that's fine. I'll pay whatever he thinks and then I'm out. It's getting a little out of hand. That to me.
Starting point is 00:46:18 my opinion, that text was the mic drop moment in this trial. I explained on my lunch lie a little bit. I was told that that was in a text. We'll get back to that. Let's keep going. Chelsea, it's getting way out of hand. I don't think you should pay him anything. Let the attorneys decide stuff like that because guarantee they will say you don't owe him anything or that his payout of the house won't be as big, which is fine. Corey. Oh, exactly. They would say he still owes him. me triple of what he says. I owe him just for paying me out for the house. Just kind of feel like an asshole or maybe I shouldn't. But I feel like it would be bad karma if I didn't. Shit, I don't know. Honestly, what would you do? Chelsea, what do you feel like an asshole about? Taking money out of the house? Corey. Yes. But it's technically my house so I shouldn't feel bad. But if I just walked away and said good luck i would feel like an ass chelsea how much did you take out corey a lot chelsea ha ha i don't know friend how long do you think it would take for you to pay him back i just worry he's going to keep digging and hire a p i something and things get bad core oh for sure so i just got to be top notch careful he's
Starting point is 00:47:36 totally going to i feel like and then shit will hit the fan and there's nothing more important to me than the boys in making sure custody is always going to be at least 50-50. And if he digs and digs and finds something, I don't want him hiring some expensive attorney to fight for the kids or something. I don't know. Everything has gone through my mind on the endless possibilities. Chelsea. Yeah, I bet so.
Starting point is 00:48:02 I don't know. If it was me, I would want to be out ASAP and let the attorneys figure out all the money stuff. Whether it's now or a couple of months, he's going to be vindictive and try to fuck you over no matter what. Corey, guarantee he would, exclamation point. He's going to try everything. He's pushing me so bad to go to counseling by myself because he thinks I need help. Like what the, like what, WTF, I feel like he's doing that to set me up for down the road to say she's crazy.
Starting point is 00:48:31 She even goes to counseling. Like he thinks I'm the damn problem here, but he's not hearing himself. I should go back and talk to your attorney and let him know the situation. and see how we should move forward. Maybe that's what I'll do this next week. Chelsea, ha, ha, I just can't get over him thinking you're the crazy one. That's nuts. You should say, fine, I'll go if you go and see what he says.
Starting point is 00:48:53 I'm sure that's what he'll try to do and say you drink too much and blah, blah, blah. Yes, you definitely should go see him and see what he says to do. Corey, Eric's home. Chat later. All right. And after showing the text, Bloodworth asked Chelsea if Corey had ever told her whether she paid back that home equity line of credit. Chelsea said she couldn't really remember for sure, but she did say that the house, Corey flipped, ended up making money and that Corey had told her
Starting point is 00:49:21 she paid Eric back. Let's go back to that one text, though, where she says, hey, if I die, it's Eric's fault, writes that in a text. To me, that is the mic drop moment of today. Because there's only two ways to look at this for me. Well, three ways. to look at it, but one doesn't work. Either she's telling the truth, but she's not because that didn't happen. And I've never heard anyone else imply that Eric was plotting anything about Corey. So then she's then lying. And why would she be lying about that? Like, who thinks about that? Like who thinks, hey, by the way, if I die, it was my husband. That to me is even more unusual than saying the other things she said.
Starting point is 00:50:17 And it would have to be projection. Like you spot it, you got it. Like you have to think something like that. Like guilt. It's a consciousness of guilt to say that. Because clearly how many people, you know, how many people did Eric say, look, if something happens to me, I think my wife's poisoning me. And now she's saying it to me, it tells me.
Starting point is 00:50:37 it tells me she's thinking about it, right? Or that either that she knows that Eric has said thinks this about her. So she's throwing it out to friends. Anyway, I thought that was like a whoa. Bloodworth then asked Chelsea about something that came up at the end of February 22. And he asked if Corey had mentioned a cervical cancer scare around that time. And Chelsea said, yes. She explained that Corey was waiting on a call from her doctor.
Starting point is 00:51:06 and when the doctor called, they said there was a possibility she had cervical cancer and that she needed to come in for a biopsy. Chelsea said she was actually there when Corey called Eric to tell him about it. And then according to Chelsea, Eric sounded concerned, but he didn't want to overreact until they knew for sure what was going on. Ludworth also asked Chelsea if she had ever known Corey to use drugs aside from THC Gummies. Chelsea said no. He followed that up by asking if she had ever known Eric to use illicit drugs, including pain pills, and she said no to that as well. Bloodworth then displayed more texts from May 7th, 2022. Let's read those texts. So Chelsea says, Derek is home and putting that envelope in the screen door. Corey,
Starting point is 00:51:57 oh, yeah, it is. It's all just fucking crazy. My attorneys have been talking to me all day about it. They're saying if it's poisoning, that means he overdosed on it by accident, obviously because he doesn't do drugs. He said they have no evidence of either of us having anything to do with it. So somehow it got into his system. We should get the cause of death and autopsy this week. And then my attorneys are going to push for everything and try and close this shit out. And in response to the envelope comment, Corey said, oh awesome, thanks friend. I think she ran over and grabbed it.
Starting point is 00:52:32 Chelsea says, yeah, it's nuts. They say poison and automatically jumped to murder. Like, no, that's ridiculous and guarantee that came straight from Amy and Katie once they heard that. Do they still have the answer by Monday? Those are, yeah, those texts, man. Wow. Bloodworth and asked how Chelsea learned about Eric's death that morning. She explained that Corey's mom, Lisa Darden, called her.
Starting point is 00:52:57 And Lisa sitting in the courtroom every day, by the way. And she went straight over to Corey's house. and when she got there, Corey told her what had happened, and she said she had gone to bed with one of the boys at night. And when she woke up, she went back into the bedroom, and that's when she realized Eric was cold and not breathing. Corey also told Chelsea that the two of them had a drink earlier that evening to celebrate the closing of a job she had.
Starting point is 00:53:20 Next, Bloodworth asked Chelsea about a phone call in November 2022 between Corey and her attorneys, and he asked if Chelsea had been present during that call. Bloodworth pointed out that during the conversation, Corey said Eric had been on the phone with people in Mexico about a hunting trip when she went into Ashton's room, her son's room. And Chelsea confirmed that she was there for that call. Then there were some more texts. Corey states this. You ready? More text. Let's read together. Corey. I just tried Chelsea so fucking hard to save him. His lifeless body on my bedroom floor. His eye. eyes, his yellow body cold. It was so cold. I pumped so damn hard on so hard screaming at him to come back to life that I needed him. He was gone, Chels, just fucking gone. He never even gave me a sign he needed fucking help. I would have woken up. I could have helped him. This is so fucked up. Wow. Reading that was wow. It claiming that she pumped so hard
Starting point is 00:54:27 doing CPR when we learned that according to first responders, it looked like CPR hadn't been performed. That would be really difficult to read as a juror. Anyway, Chelsea then states, I can't even imagine, friend, I can't. And no matter what people say, you're going to feel different. But I don't think there was anything that could have been done. It was an unexpected thing. I don't even know what to say. I can't even imagine what you're going through.
Starting point is 00:54:56 Do you want me to come up? Corey, I'm okay. I need to get stuff over to my attorney. Thanks though, Chels. Give me a few days. Then Chelsea texts. Okay, just let me know if you need anything with the boys. You anything.
Starting point is 00:55:14 You can call just a chat too. Corey then says, fucking nightmare. I hired the law firm that represents the jazz. It cost me 100,000 K. I will fucking win. They will not take from. me, what is mine, and what I have worked my ass off for. They won't. Thanks, friend. I love you.
Starting point is 00:55:34 And then Chelsea says, I just can't believe they are following through with all of it. How fucking heartless can you be? Have you asked Katie to back off? I'm just shocked. I'm sorry, friend. I will help in any way I can. I love you too. And after all those text messages, Chelsea's still on the stand. there's a lot more with her. We went into lunch recess. That was, how are you guys doing? Thoughts on those?
Starting point is 00:56:01 I'm taking those in for the first time. Wow. Wow. That, Robinson, Caruso, many secretly love it when Lauren has a good swear
Starting point is 00:56:11 in the name of reporting, right? I'm sitting here quoting. And it's core the needs to wash her mouth out with soap, not me. Yeah, that was,
Starting point is 00:56:20 that was, to me, pretty heart. and damning, you know, she's very angry about the money. She's kind of, she's lying. We know that there are things that just aren't true, that she has told Chelsea. I think what they're painting here is that she lies to Chelsea. You know, says she paid him his money back and saying she's giving them CPR.
Starting point is 00:56:50 All the evidence we've seen the last two weeks tells us that, that she lies. So after lunch, Chelsea told the jury she was at the Richens home on March 6th, 2022. That's two days after Eric died. And she said Corey was extremely upset that day because she had just gotten into an argument with her sister-in-law. According to Chelsea, Corey was trying to get into Eric's safe because she wanted to find his will. And during that argument, the sister-in-law told Corey the house wasn't hers anymore, and that it now belonged to the other sister who was supposedly in charge of everything.
Starting point is 00:57:32 Chelsea said that sent Corey into a spiral. She described Corey as very upset, seeing Corey collapsed and became hysterical. Chelsea testified that Corey couldn't believe all of this was happening. Chelsea also talked about how Corey presented herself at the time. She said Corey acted like a very successful house flipper who was constantly buying and selling properties. Chelsea said Corey came across as generous and successful and she had no idea that Corey was actually struggling financially. So more lies building up here. And they're painting the picture that
Starting point is 00:58:10 Corey is a liar. Everything isn't what it seems. Chelsea, this part was heartbreaking. This was, whoa. Her ride or die. Okay. Chelsea even ended up buying a home from Corey, moved in with her husband and kids. She explained that her family really needed a place to live and Corey offered them one of the homes she was flipping. Corey asked her for a $45,000 down payment. Chelsea said she was working as a restaurant manager at the time and had saved up tips for years, for years.
Starting point is 00:58:48 And that $45,000 was basically her entire. life savings. She wired the money to Corey in two separate transfers. Chelsea said that she understood that Corey was going to use that money towards the mortgage on the house soon after receiving it. The loan itself was in Corey's name, okay? But Chelsea said she paid the mortgage company about $2,900 every month and that the deed to the house was in Chelsea's name, which means that Chelsea owns the home and that she signed the deed. So when I'm first hearing this, I'm thinking, okay, so it does sound like maybe Corey's trying to do her friend a solid, sign that give her the deed.
Starting point is 00:59:33 But then prosecutor Bloodworth introduced the warranty deed connected to the home. The document, again, lists Chelsea Barney as the sole owner and shows it as signed on January 6, 2023. It says that Chelsea was the borrower or truster while Corey was listed as a beneficiary or lender. So the total amount listed on the document was $370,000. But then Chelsea testified that the document was never actually recorded with Wasatch County. She thought it was. She said she believed the home was hers and kept making the mortgage payments like everything was normal. that changed though after her best friend corey was arrested chelsea said that's when she found out there had been a loan taken out on the house that she knew nothing about she contacted the county by
Starting point is 01:00:30 email and asked for copies of the paperwork but she was told the documents had never been filed her documents the deed Chelsea said she stayed in the house until september of 2024 always paying the mortgage when she was eventually evicted, not because she didn't stop paying the mortgage. She was evicted because the property had new owners by then and they forced her to leave. She said Corey had turned the deed over to someone else in lieu of foreclosure, which meant that person ended up owning the house. Bloodworth tried to introduce another exhibit, but the defense objected. The attorneys went to a sidebar with Judge Morazic, and the judge ended up excusing the jury so he could review the exhibit first. But let's stop there. Can you imagine your best friends in junior high,
Starting point is 01:01:23 your life savings, your family's home? And that happens? I cannot imagine. It is devastating, Margaret, that is devastating. That, like, shattered me to hear that. And she trusted, Corey. And even I thought as it was playing out, even I thought that Corey was doing her friend as solid. I was thinking, okay, she's helping her get into her first house. And then to hear that, that was awful. Can you even imagine your best friend? And Chelsea did cry on the stand. She broke down a couple times. She broke down talking about the house. Right when she started talking about the house, that was when she broke down. Not broke down as in like started sobbing, but like caught herself. You know, like it was clear that she started crying and couldn't control
Starting point is 01:02:20 her emotions. The other time she started crying was when they started talking about children. And she heard children on a recorded phone call. Very sad. So Judge Mazik ended up excusing the jury so he could review the exhibits that everyone was arguing about. He discussed certain parts of it with attorneys and decided what should be allowed in, should be kept out based on the defense's objections. The exhibit turned out to be another text message exchange. So when the jury came back into the courtroom,
Starting point is 01:02:54 the judge gave them specific instructions before showing it, he told them that they could consider Corey's messages for any purpose. But when it came to Chelsea's messages, the jury could only look at them for the effect those statements had on Corey, not for the truth of what Chelsea was saying. The texts were sent June 17th, 2022. Here we go. Corey, oh my fucking God, I got the documents.
Starting point is 01:03:19 It's Katie and Amy. They told the detective, basically, I've been trying to kill Eric for years. And Eric was divorcing me. Then Chelsea responds, holy fuck, are you fucking serious? I mean, we knew it. But what the actual fuck? when was he divorcing you? Can you send it to me? I want to read it if it's okay. Corey, just sent it to you and they said we were arguing about buying the Midway House
Starting point is 01:03:48 because he didn't want to sign papers on it at all. And that house had nothing to do with him, she says with an exclamation point. Well, that's interesting then that you two were celebrating it together. Okay, well, that house had nothing to do with him. They said I didn't even try CPR. Oh, my God. So it's coming out that, yeah, the sisters, Katie and Amy. Chelsea then states, what do they want with the Midway House? Like, do they want the equity of it? Like, what the fuck? Are you fucking serious? It even says in the ME, the medical examiners report, how you did CPR, what the fuck? I would be so done and ask Gene, that's Eric's dad, if he knew about them doing this. I knew it was them, but that's still fucking shocking.
Starting point is 01:04:40 Corey then says, this is all so full of shit and lies. No, they are saying we were arguing about us buying the Midway House the day Eric died, so I had something to do with this. He had nothing to do with the damn Midway House. We never fought about it. Eric was at the Midway House the day he passed away having gravel delivered. Okay, so she's sticking to her story there. They are so fucking stupid and have no idea about anything. Chelsea, oh my fucking God, God, didn't you guys have a drink to toast to signing the Midway House? And why the fuck would you kill him over that? That's the stupidest fucking thing you have bought and sold tons of houses. Why all of a sudden that one? Was that one he argued with you about and you killed him over? I would completely cut ties with
Starting point is 01:05:28 that family now. That is so fucked up. They are all fucked up. Corey. Exactly. And I'm going to just count one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight exclamation points. Exactly eight exclamation points. They are so fucking stupid. And Valentine's Day, are they serious? Oh my God. Clearly, by the way, Amy and Katie, Eric's sisters are on it. Realizing what they think is happening. And Corey is catching on that they're catching on. Let's keep going. Chelsea. I have. haven't read it yet. I'm about to grab a beer and read it. What did they say about Valentine's Day? Corey, oh, ha, well, read it. Then we can talk. Some parts of this text were redacted, by the way, but Chelsea said, in part, what in the actual fuck you gave him a sandwich. And Eric has talked to us about how he got sick in Greece because of his Lyme disease medicine. Wade does the same with his old Crohn's disease medicine. That's not uncommon.
Starting point is 01:06:40 I mean, fuck, what if Eric was trying to kill you and set you up with the things like that? And if he wanted to divorce you, why didn't he let you move out when you had your condo? He didn't want you to leave and begged you. Even Amy said he was trying by reading anger management books and everything, he loved you so much and couldn't let you go. Even fucking Bryce said it. It says how his family came to them. Do you think Gene, Eric's dad, was one of them? Have the detectives talk to Sky ever? And what would you have put in the sandwich for him to break out in hives? So they're clearly talking about Valentine's Day. Corey states, I didn't even make him a fucking sandwich, those fucking
Starting point is 01:07:28 idiots. It was Valentine's Day and Eric and I both were working from home that day and I ordered lunch from Mir Lake Diner. He never broke out in hives or used an EpiPen. I was fucking with him. Bailey was there too. He said the sandwich hurt his stomach so he was going to nap. No hives, no EpiPen. They are such liars. And then he woke up and went to work. Eric got sick in Greece because we were all at a restaurant and he ordered a non-alcohol drink and they mixed alcohol in it anyway and gave it to him. Everyone was there and watched it happen. I didn't give him a fucking drink. The waitress did. And exactly, Eric was not going to divorce me. Are you fucking kidding me? They can go through our text and read the messages she would send to me and know that.
Starting point is 01:08:15 And then Chelsea responds, where the fuck are they getting this stuff from then? How can they just make this shit up and get away with it. Like for fuck's sakes, Cody definitely is involved in this also. I bet it was him and the sisters. They don't want you to get anything. This is fucked up. Like for real, you guys were not divorcing and you have no reason to kill him. You could have just left him without killing him. I'm fucking shocked. Corey, I am suing them for defamation and lying to the cops. Every bit of that is a fucking lie. Every bit of it. They are not getting away with. this. I sent it to Jean. I told him I was done with the girls. They are never allowed to see my kids again and he needs to respect that and said because they are fucking liars. He hasn't gotten back to me
Starting point is 01:09:03 yet. He will, but I'm done. Chelsea. Oh, for sure, sue them. Even fucking Cody. All three of them are lying. I'm fucking shocked. How could they say that and how could the cops go believe that without asking you any questions about any of those accusations. I wonder what Gene is going to say. Introducing Taco Bell's new jalapino citrus salsa with bright citrus, real red jalapinos, guahillo chilis. Usually, you add sauce to the food, but when the sauce is this good, the food is just there to get the sauce to your mouth. That rolled cassidia, not a rolled cassidia anymore. Now it's a sauce shovel. Taco Bell's jalapeno citrus salsa, get it with any item on
Starting point is 01:09:47 a canteen a chicken menu while it's here. The participating U.S. Taco Bell locations for a limited time only while supplies last. Contact store for availability. All right. So then, Bloodworth then shifted to a phone call that happened on March 19th, 2022. He asked
Starting point is 01:10:04 Chelsea about a call between Corey and Bryce Knudson, who she said was Eric's best friend. So we've heard from Josh, but now we're learning about Bryce Knudson. Eric's best friend. And Chelsea said she was also on this call with Bryce and Corey. And the prosecution moved to admit, admit the recording into evidence and it was allowed in. Bloodworth explained to the court that there are two different portions of the call and that both of them are fairly long.
Starting point is 01:10:38 And before playing the recording, the judge gave the jury another reminder about how they are allowed to consider what they're about to hear. So this is what the judge told them. Guys, man, this recording, I'm telling you, this is what I said. This is this recording, man. He told them, the jury, that they can consider anything Corey says on the call for any purpose they believe is relevant. But the other voices on the call, which are Bryce and Chelsea, and Chelsea's still sitting on the stand for this, those cannot be considered for the truth of what they say. just the effect they may have had on Corey as the listener. So after those instructions, the calls were played for the jury.
Starting point is 01:11:22 And we're going to play a lot of those, a lot of that here because, guys, we got to know Corey better than ever during these calls, in my opinion. And let me tell you what I, before we play him, let me tell you what I'm thinking. The way the evidence has gone for the last two weeks, we know a lot. We know all of Corey's finances. We know all, we know a lot about the marriage. We know a lot of everything. So they've set this up that we can listen to this call and know that Corey's lying about things because we've seen the evidence.
Starting point is 01:12:08 Take that for what it is. and the most fascinating thing about this too, I do not think this call makes Corey look good at all. My personal opinion, I guess I'm prefacing it with that. And wow, this call, it was actually, by the way, the courtroom was so still as these calls were played. And it was really hard to watch Chelsea. But to think that Corey recorded these calls herself,
Starting point is 01:12:35 had she not recorded these calls? they would not be being played for the entire courtroom right now. Corey recorded her own calls that I think are really pretty damning. It was difficult to listen to. Let's play these, though. Let's play these. In the airport. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:13:01 Well, no, I want to talk to you when you're free. That when you're at work. Oh, I got 30 minutes. Okay. I just, I got to talk to you. I got to shit off my chest. You okay? So, you know that I'm obviously in a lawsuit with the richons.
Starting point is 01:13:31 Yes. I just want to tell you what's going on. But I also want to back up a couple steps. And I want to tell you that I understand that your loyalty is 100% to the rich. It's like you've known them longer and I get that. And that's fine. And I just, if our, you know, if our friendship ends here, I get that too. And I mean, I just, I get it, right?
Starting point is 01:14:05 It's like, I just get it. And it sucks, but it is what it is. And I just want to get everything out on the table right now so that, you know, but basically you know you know about Eric's trust it's no surprise um yeah Bryce I you know I don't care about money it's not a it's not a big fucking deal to me all the money you know Eric has almost you know what three million dollars
Starting point is 01:14:36 in life insurance money in money I want it all to go into the trust to my kids I don't want any of it right like I don't care about money this house is my house price but I mean when I make money like I work hard for my money
Starting point is 01:14:55 right it's like I do I don't make Eric money I have put $80,000 towards our mortgage in the last year I paid $60,000
Starting point is 01:15:06 and cashed my money towards that pool like this is my house and I'm going to fight for it I just want you to know and whether I have to fight the girls about it
Starting point is 01:15:20 I'm going to they can have half of C&E they can have all the life insurance money they can have anything they want take it take it you know but they can't have my house
Starting point is 01:15:35 Bryce yeah for sure I don't you know I don't know everything right I mean I don't judge you Eric doesn't judge you. Eric doesn't judge me in the mistakes that I've made right. But I know that. Bryce, I mean, I'm just going to be out.
Starting point is 01:15:58 Yeah. I took $250,000 off of our house. Yeah. Do you know how much in real estate we own today because I did that? $11 million worth of real estate. Do you know why I did that, Bryce? Because Eric would never let me work. Eric never trusted me and believing me.
Starting point is 01:16:18 No, but I want you to know. that would you do would you do it would you take 250,000 to make 11 million dollars well that's true you're right like uh communication was the big thing for Eric right he told me no right I believe in myself he told me no but I knew I could do it because I know what I can do I'm Bryce I wouldn't do something that I didn't know that I knew I could do I'm not fucking stupid price I own 12 properties that are almost all paid off including yeah including my own house that I've almost paid off like I own multiple houses in Park City in Mill Creek in Saratoga Springs
Starting point is 01:17:05 and milk in Heber in Midway in all because I did that and they all go to my kids $11 million of real estate property because I took $250,000 price he just never gave me a fucking chance. He never gave me a chance because he didn't believe in me. And he can say whatever he wanted. He can say I stole from him. He can say whatever. But at the end of the day,
Starting point is 01:17:33 that $250,000 price was paid off in seven months and turned into $11 million in two years. And now somebody's going to come in and take my fucking house for me. It's not going to happen. I didn't think they were going to take the house. They're taking my fucking house, right? This is my goddamn house. This is my fucking house.
Starting point is 01:17:58 You're going to stay with people a matter one. No. The house goes to the trust's name, which goes to Katie. She has the right to sell it. She has the right to remodel it. She has the right to do whatever. I have no rights to the house. So to speak of the trust.
Starting point is 01:18:19 I mean, you know, I mean, you did everything. And when all that shit went down between you and Eric, attorney and taking the money and whatever, that's a change for him, right? He was like, right, I'm not here anymore. I need to make sure my kids are protected, right? I get it. And they're just protected.
Starting point is 01:18:46 I get it. So if you can just take my word for it. You can take your word for it. I'm terrified to take your word. No, I'm not on anybody's side. I'm more on your side than Katie Navy's side. only because even though Eric and you were out getting along I don't get along that's not part of being a marriage right
Starting point is 01:19:14 but Eric would always say that you or his wife you're the mother of his children and he loved you right and so he would do anything for you and those three boys and I know he sent things up with the lawyers and all that bullshit right and that was where I'm trying to protect his three kids but I know if Eric was still here today he would say no bullshit I need Corey to be protected. But unfortunately here to set her up that.
Starting point is 01:19:41 And I don't even know how he said. I don't know. No way, no way should be that way. It shouldn't be that. The money, phrase, I can make more money. I can take care of my kids. I just want my house. I just stuff in my house that me and Eric Faw.
Starting point is 01:20:06 I just want my house. They can have all the money. They can have all the money. Did you tell them that? I can't. I can't. I tried to tell him that, Bryce. Hey, Bryce.
Starting point is 01:20:19 This is Chelsea. Hey. Okay. So Corey has told them, or they're going through like a turning to attorney. It's never been like face-to-face. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So Corey has told them that they can take all the life insurance, whatever they have in their name, what it left to them. But Corey just wants a house, which is like a three-minute.
Starting point is 01:20:43 which is like a $3 million to $7 million difference. Well, they won't agree to anything until they get the autopsy because they think that Corey had a part in Eric's death, as in Amy and Katie. They probably not Katie as much as Amy. They think that Corey has a part in Eric's death. What? I mean, that's kind of where we're at now.
Starting point is 01:21:22 And she just got us telling yesterday. And she's, I mean, I'm up here just since she asked me to come up because she's kind of broken right now. And she doesn't know what to do. And I mean, that's kind of where they're at where they said they don't want to agree to anything until they get the autopsy back to reassure them that Corey had no part in Eric's death. So that's kind of where Corey is like, you know, like how, I don't know. I don't I don't even know like this is all this fucking crazy no and I mean everyone like everyone totally understands that like I think everyone understands that everyone knows how coordinating there's where everyone does like even I do like everybody knew how they yeah like we're not fucking stupid I mean two years
Starting point is 01:22:27 ago they were getting a divorce and then they were great but like to say in the moment that they were at when he died I mean I I can honestly say because I even told Corey, like, I haven't gotten a call from you in a year that Eric was being an asshole. Like, I hadn't gotten that call. So, like, for me to say, like, Eric wouldn't have turned this around, like, I guarantee Eric would have turned this around. And I'm not saying, like, Corey needs to life. And she doesn't. Like, Corey, Corey can make whatever money she wants.
Starting point is 01:23:03 But the fact that they're going after her house is what she's just so broken about. because it just says so every in the will it says everything that like so eric put the truck eric put the house in the trust no not just for the kids for like katy so katy can make all cool all calls up until they are 18 years old yes she's not the power of the trust too so like Eric put the house. So Eric not only put his part of the house, but he put Corey's equity in the house in the trust. So Corey has no fucking say right now,
Starting point is 01:23:47 unless she fights it with a lawyer, which she's doing right now. But also he put half of his business. And the half that, so him and Cody signed a, I don't know, some like insurance thing to where if one of the partners died, that half would go to the widow.
Starting point is 01:24:07 will Eric sign his half that would go to the widow into the truck? So in all honestly, Corey gets nothing from Eric, which I mean, Corey's not about getting anything from her husband dying right now. I mean, that's a tragic thing where no one, like, that's not when you go after, unless you're some fucking black widow. Like, that's not what you go after.
Starting point is 01:24:28 You don't go after your husband dying and you don't go after money. But, I mean, she's just saying, all like she doesn't even care about the life insurance because the life insurance the beneficiary is katie right now of eric life insurance but fine which cori says she's fine and like in all honesty like if you weigh out how much katy gets in the in the will and how much cori is asking for is compared to seven million to three million like cori has already weighed her assets on everything and with Corey's house and like everything that is in her house, she would probably get $3 million with that.
Starting point is 01:25:10 And Katie, with the life insurance and everything she's getting out of it, she's getting $7 million. So it's like, you know, like all Corey is asking for is her house. But they're not agreeing to that because they are, Corey has a say or has a like Corey was in a conference in how Eric is what they're saying. if that makes sense that makes sense
Starting point is 01:25:39 18 or anybody well I mean there's no reason to talk to because June's kind of Switzerland
Starting point is 01:25:47 on this whole thing yeah yeah but I mean with like with all being said it all comes down
Starting point is 01:25:56 to Corey can't attend Eric's celebration of life but yes my attorney
Starting point is 01:26:04 said her attorney said there's no like absolutely not like don't intend eric's celebration of life because katie or amy will be there or one of their friends will be there or someone will be there to come out and making cori look bad because they've already come after her of being a incompetent mother amy said i was an incompetent mother of saturday night tell him that i didn't tell him that on saturday amy has came out to her lawyer saying that saturday night the night that you came over and we were all drinking that Corey was an incompetent mother and couldn't take care of her own kids that night.
Starting point is 01:26:41 So Amy had to take care of them, which Amy had no part of taking care of them because Lisa and Ronnie, or Lisa and DJ were here. And so they're filing a suit saying, so they're filing a suit trying to make Corey look out as a confident, like incompetent mother. I know. And Greg and Corey kept saying like all day. She's like, I need to call Bryce. I want to talk for him. I don't know how to go about it because Bryce is like a rich inside. And I hate it fucking sucks, but there's like a rich inside and there's like a Corey side.
Starting point is 01:27:20 Like it's fucking like that's like let's fuck that, you know? Like fuck. Like this isn't what this isn't what this should be about. Like we shouldn't we shouldn't fucking like grieve about Eric's death about being who side is who. Like it should be all one in one. and we should come together as a fucking family and just like love each other and like...
Starting point is 01:27:59 To me, I know whatever for why. I didn't. You got his baby feelings her. He won't have. Price, I am not that. They never will. But that's kind of like ultimately what she wanted to call you about
Starting point is 01:28:40 was that she just can't make the celebration of life. And she feels awful about it. She doesn't want... I mean, and if you. continue to do it, whether you cancel it or not, like if you continue to do it, she doesn't want you to, she doesn't want to come out as looking at the bad guy that she's on there. Coming though, Bryce, I invited everybody and everybody's coming. I just can't. I just can't go and I feel like a fucking asshole, but I just can't.
Starting point is 01:29:12 And I don't know what they're going to do or say next. And I didn't fucking do anything. I know. I get it. Yeah. Like in all reality. she's just kind of looking out for her and the boys right now. Well, I just hope you guys went so damn fall.
Starting point is 01:29:47 I don't want to, I don't know those boys grow up with me. Him and I made promise on one another. We're having to either one of us at the end of the day. Yeah, I agree. I get it. Yeah. All right. Call us back.
Starting point is 01:30:39 We can move to 4, 2-47. I'm starring a lot of your comments, guys. Painful. Hi, Bryce. Hey. Sorry, my phone is on silent. So ultimately, Corey, or you, right? Normally, I can't even get involved anyway, right?
Starting point is 01:31:24 Like, the riches, which the riches would be. Let's fix that. One moment, please. Yeah, I'm wrong to them. I guess I've never, I mean, I helped Katie when she had cooked hard on, I watched her girls. I helped Amy when she, you know, she loves. her mom and like I just I don't understand what I what I did start wrong um yeah we've never been super close but it's like I've never done wrong to them and I don't understand why they're putting
Starting point is 01:32:24 me through hell yeah you you personally they don't do anything wrong with them but you you just just keep right oh it is it is yeah his response was I love Corey I love my three kids I every single day That's the idea. They freaking make it. Do that happen again? Audio goes out. They'll have it out. When people describe Eric,
Starting point is 01:33:17 if Eric is a great guy, but he also, like, you need to relax a little bit. I think we jumped ahead a little when the recording restarted. Do we need to go back? People just get to the board.
Starting point is 01:33:37 Eric, you're not out of half, because he's going to say anything to be because he's going to die. I said, you got to do one or two things, Eric, and not out of a half,
Starting point is 01:33:43 because he's going to say a thing to be broke, right? Brian God me, I'm just get divorced. I'm like, oh, it is. It is. Yeah, it's easier said than done. You know, he'd always push you to get divorced. I would say, dude, if you're not on how Eric, you should get divorced.
Starting point is 01:33:59 And his response was, I love Corey. I love my three kids. I couldn't bear to see my not being with my kids every single day. I get it. They're freaking making divorce. It's so hard ass. You know, when people, Eric is a great guy. But he also, you need to relax.
Starting point is 01:34:29 I was like, hold. I'm like, holy shit. I think we're. Your Honor, stopped published. Oh. Stopped on anger management classes. I think I needed to do it, right? No, and that's a thing.
Starting point is 01:34:42 But I was like, we were so good this last like two years. Like we have been so good. Like Eric has been like, he had an anger management book that he would write in like every couple days. Like it was in his nice stand. Like, he, I'd come home from like work and he was be right. like out on the back deck, like writing in his anger management book. And, you know, like, we were just good. I was going to counseling.
Starting point is 01:35:08 Like, he was doing anger management. Like, we have been so good. Like, everybody knew it. Like, we were going on double dates. Like, we were going out more. We did weekly date nights. Like, it just, it doesn't make any fucking sense. And now all of a sudden, Katie and Amy are attacking.
Starting point is 01:35:29 me for no fucking reason. Like, I don't get it. I don't fucking get it. And they did. And I... Eric, when things were good between you guys, Eric wasn't calling me or... Yeah.
Starting point is 01:35:55 You're only... The bad stuff. Right? And so, yeah, all you heard was a negative shit, right? Yeah. Yeah. He would explain it.
Starting point is 01:36:21 Set things up to protect his kids, but it wasn't said anything else to try to fuck you. all of all of he loved you well yeah and that was two years ago Jesus Christ we've come so far in two years and it's like
Starting point is 01:36:58 if Eric reed did his shit you know you know just I mean last month we sat down and talked about every asset that we had everything we had and Eric was like
Starting point is 01:37:10 holy fucking shit you know like he was just also taken by surprise. Like you just was like, you know, that $250,000 is the best thing you've ever done. And I was like, I know, you just didn't believe in me. And, you know, and I was like,
Starting point is 01:37:28 and now it all goes to our kids. Like, our kids are taking care of for life. Like, you know, and if he redid it today, it would be fucking different. And now everything is just so fucked up. Like, it's just a nightmare. It's just a nightmare. and every day they're coming at me with something.
Starting point is 01:37:46 Like, I'm getting charged with fucking assault. I'm getting charged with, Your Honor. Like, Jesus, I haven't been in trouble since I was in high school. When I was 16 years old. Jesus, I haven't been in trouble since I was in high school. When I was 16 years old, for hell's sake, I'm 32. Like, what do you mean? I'm in trouble.
Starting point is 01:38:14 Like, I didn't fucking do anything. You know, like, I don't know. Anyway, I went to call you yesterday. I talked to the medical examiner. I call them because I just, I don't believe that they don't have anything. I just am having a hard time believing that. Yeah, it was taking so long. Well, I, she said that, you know, she's like, well, I'll have the actual doctor call you who did his autopsy.
Starting point is 01:38:47 And I was like, okay, whatever. So her name is Pamela, Ulmer. And she called me a couple hours later. And I was like, look, lady, like, you got to have something for me. Like, there's no way you didn't notice something obvious. Like, Jesus Christ, 12 weeks, you know. And she was just like, well, yeah, there was something obvious, you know, we noticed. But, you know, we're not going to call you and tell you that immediately.
Starting point is 01:39:14 And I was like, well, what? You know? so they ruled out an aneurysm automatically she's like it wasn't uh huh yeah she's like it wasn't an aneurism I can tell you that and she goes he did test positive twice for COVID
Starting point is 01:39:34 and I was like yeah bullshit no no no which we did have COVID a month and a half ago like we all test the positive but that was like a month and a half ago like he didn't still have fucking COVID yeah like yeah like we didn't have still have COVID and she was like well his lungs he had a fungal infection in his lungs like they were completely covered in white spots she's like and I don't know what it was she's like so I cut three of them out and sent him in for biopsy she's like but they were so full of fluid and blood she's like I have no idea yet what it is she's like so So I'm thinking between the COVID and the fungal infection that it shut his lungs down. And I was like, no, no.
Starting point is 01:40:28 Like that, he is the healthiest guy. That guy is a fucking mountain goat. Like he could like, I was like, we just were going to have a marathon six months ago. And Eric didn't even train for it. And I did. And he beat me by 40 minutes. Like, no, there's nothing wrong with his lungs. Like, no, I don't believe that.
Starting point is 01:40:49 And she got bitchy with me. And she's like, well, what do you mean? No. No. But no. It's not COVID in his lungs. Like, there's just not. There's no way.
Starting point is 01:41:02 And I was like, no offense. My husband would roll over in his grave and haunt you and everybody involved if you put him down as COVID. We are very against COVID and vaccines. Like, nope, not happening. Like, if it was COVID there'd have been signs of him. Well, that's what I said.
Starting point is 01:41:23 He was able to breathe and she did, right? Yes. He wasn't sick. I was like he was just at soccer the night before. I was like he was at soccer the night before. He was running around. Like, he was totally fucking healthy. He wasn't sick.
Starting point is 01:41:38 He was not sick. No, I don't buy that. Like, no. I was like, I will call you back in two weeks because she said that she sent all his organs out for testing, a toxicology report, blood, everything. And that's why it's going to take so long. And I was like, okay,
Starting point is 01:41:55 well, I'll call you back in two weeks when you have more results, because that is not what it is. Like, there's no way. There's no fucking way. The people who have died of me. Yes. They were overweight. They were in the hospital. I see you. Like, he did not die a
Starting point is 01:42:14 fucking COVID lady. Just rammed. Jesus. In the middle of the night. In the middle the night. Like I would have heard him get up, have a hard time breathing. Bryce when I found him. He was in the exact same position as he was when he fell asleep. When I rolled over, when I got in bed with him at 3 a.m. Like he was in the same position as he was when I went to bed with him. Like, no, no, that's no. I don't buy it. Like keep testing. That's not it. And if she puts him down as fucking COVID, I will, Jesus Christ, I will flip fucking shit.
Starting point is 01:42:52 It's not COVID. No. And so I was like, nope, I'll call you back in two weeks when you have some more results back, because that's not it. I was like, that guy was in better shape than anybody you could ever imagine. Like, he didn't drink. He didn't drink. No, he didn't drink.
Starting point is 01:43:11 He didn't smoke. I was like, literally, I trained for a half marathon for six months. He woke up that morning. and decided he was going to run a half marathon and still beat me by 40 minutes. It was so annoying. I was fucking pissed, but he still did it.
Starting point is 01:43:30 Like he, no, he had better lungs than anybody would ever, no, it's not his lungs. I don't buy it. I don't buy it. So she's wondering that too. So she,
Starting point is 01:43:46 I gave her all of his Lyme's disease doctor's information. So she was going to reach out to his Lyme's disease doctor. and contact them and see his last lap results and stuff. And then she was going to look into silicosis because Sylvie actually got cancer and stuff in silicosis, who's one of their main employees, two other of their employees, you know. And then Shane, Shannon's brother died of silicosis. But I was like, no, he doesn't have silicosis.
Starting point is 01:44:16 Like I just sent him in for testing five years ago and his lungs were 100% of it. shit. Yeah. And I was like, trust me, my husband was 100% healthy five years ago. Like his lungs were 100% and he does not lay stone, nor does he cut it in the last five years.
Starting point is 01:44:37 Like he drives around in a truck lady. Like, it's not, because she was like, what does he do for a living? And I told her and I was like, but that's not it. Like, he owns a company. He doesn't cut it.
Starting point is 01:44:50 No. He's not the main cutter by any. she's like, I'm just going to look into it. And I was like, okay, you can look into it if you want. But it's, that's not it.
Starting point is 01:45:02 And I was like, and it is not his lungs. Like, you have to go with something else. Like, I was pissed when she said that. I was like, he will roll over in his grave.
Starting point is 01:45:11 You put him down for COVID. And so she was just, I don't know, trying to snagy up for that. Yeah, I'm sorry you have to go through it. I knew. Anything.
Starting point is 01:45:28 I think you're doing the right thing. You knew that. get Eric's have things up legally with, you know, the, you know, the computer, I get it. Right. Do you really think I was just going to screw Eric and take everything he had? Like, why? No. No, but he was worried about it, right?
Starting point is 01:45:57 It's because, you know, not saying you personally, but the people we've known over the year, you think you hear shit on the media, right? To be homeless. I don't want to be homeless. Oh, Jesus. Oh, my God. Yeah. But that was going stupid with you, too. I get it. I get it. I think if, uh, he would, he would.
Starting point is 01:46:44 Unfortunately, it sucks a cat. Right? Now Katie has all. I'm, at least Katie. Just like hurt. I think it was most hurtful the way that he wrote it, right? Like, if you, like, read it, it. It was just so hurtful the way that he wrote the trust. Like, I just, I get we were in a rocky spot two years ago. did I ever think we would officially divorce and go about our ways? Like, really? Like, I mean,
Starting point is 01:47:19 hell. I guess. You know, when he was seeing that stupid jet chick, I would tell him, I'm like, bro, like,
Starting point is 01:47:28 if you're going to be with this chick, well, because if you get caught, you're going to get divorced. Yeah, yeah. But I, I mean,
Starting point is 01:47:50 I think Aaron was here. I'd say it again. I think you change it. This unfortunately, he didn't. And now you're, suck at a hard place. I don't necessarily, gee, I think, gee, is ruthless as
Starting point is 01:48:08 any name. He's trying to stay neutral. He's trying to say neutral. Yeah. And it sucks. Like, I don't, right, so we don't have her talk.
Starting point is 01:48:30 I mean, all she has to do is just, Bryce, give me my house. Like, I don't make Eric money, but I make okay money. Like, just give me my house.
Starting point is 01:48:39 They can have everything. This, this is, Bryce, this is my home. I got married here. This is my baby. I brought my baby. here like this is my home they can have everything they want but give me my house for god's sake like
Starting point is 01:48:54 jesus what do they want to do with that's just you want to sell it no i don't know they just want to it they want the title and the trust's name so i can't have control over it and they won't figure anything out with it until they have the autopsy report and when they said that it broke me like i just I said, what is that mean? Yeah. Yeah. And I just, I broke, I just, I lost it. And I asked my attorneys, I said, I don't, I don't understand. What does that mean? And he was like, they think you had something to do with Eric's
Starting point is 01:49:30 death. And I said, what the fuck does that mean? Jesus Christ. And he was like, they think that, you know, and they reiterated it. And I was like, oh my God, what? And they're like, they're going with that, Corey. They're on that level. And I just, Bryce, I lost it. Fucking lost it. It's like, you think I killed my fucking husband?
Starting point is 01:49:53 For Jesus Christ's sake. No, I thought that for many of those two. I ignored how I thought that myself. Why? Like, you know, shuddy. Like, two years ago. Right? Like, two years ago.
Starting point is 01:50:22 Like, years ago. I don't. means. I was like, well, what do you mean? How does that even fucking happen? Like, what? Like, I gave him too much water. Like, I don't even know, like, I drowned it. I don't know what that, like, what? And my attorney was like, well, that's kind of a silly thing to say. I was like, why don't fucking know what you mean right now? Like, I don't know. And he was like, poor, you need to lay low in your house for the next three months and not go anywhere. and I was like, are you serious? And he's like, no, that's what they're attacking you with.
Starting point is 01:51:03 And I was like, oh, my God. Yeah. So, and then, yeah, that was the other thing. It was, I just, I fell, right? I, like, fell to the floor. They're not only coming after her with that, but they're coming after her with being a mother. I didn't ask Bryce to write a letter.
Starting point is 01:51:24 Bryce, I asked everybody else to write a letter from that night because Amy said I was an incapable mom and that I was so drunk that night. She had to care for my kids. And I couldn't care for my own kids. I have never. I love to drink. You know that, right?
Starting point is 01:51:43 It's like everybody knows it. I love to drink. I have never been in a position ever that I could not take care of my own children, ever. Like, and Amy has, Amy, remember Amy took video? She showed her attorney those videos and said, look, Corey's
Starting point is 01:52:02 partying all night. She's not a grieving wife. She's not a capable mother. She showed those videos to their attorney, Bryce. Like, and showed my fucking attorney. Like, I'm a good mom, Bryce. Like, Jesus fucking Christ.
Starting point is 01:52:20 I mean, she showed them me with your pants off, right? also you know anybody who knows that are a great relationship my pastor never on celebration of life like it was like girls I don't know what makes them their dad Bryce Jesus fucking hell
Starting point is 01:53:07 and you're going to submit videos and say that I'm an incompetent mom like what's not fair and I said but that's the thing like it's so hurtful it's so hurtful that there's there's a decision regarding the op-opsy that they wouldn't even take them like it's like you're wanting an autopsy to make decisions so like what like it's just like no and well she's crying right now what hold on Bryce what
Starting point is 01:54:35 Yeah, I said like a woman from a natural. Okay, like two minutes, okay? Okay, this is when Chelsea starts crying. Here, she hears the kids. Okay, go lie on the couch. I don't know what you're saying. Go lay on the couch. Okay, go downstairs.
Starting point is 01:54:58 Two minutes. I don't know, Bryce. Like, it's just, like, kind of crazy. Yeah. I mean, it's like, it's kind of crazy. kind of like she neither of them like not even like I'm not even just speaking for Corey
Starting point is 01:55:15 but like Katie and Amy cannot grieve for anything because all three of them are concentrated on fighting against what Eric has and that's you know it's just kind of like that's all they're concentrated on and what like
Starting point is 01:55:34 I don't know like and I mean I've seen this like it happened with my dad and his uncles when my grandparents died. Like everyone fights against money. It always happens with death. Always.
Starting point is 01:55:51 Like there's no guy. Yes, exactly. It happened with Eric and Julie. Like that happened. It happened with Linda. It happens all the time with death. Every single time death happens like money is fucking involved. And like that sucks.
Starting point is 01:56:10 But at the same time, it's like Eric. I'm not fighting for it. No. I'm giving it to them. No. Eric, like, Corny's, but, but Eric left behind, like, a family that he took care. Like, how much of Eric's wealth went to Amy and Katie? I don't think you didn't.
Starting point is 01:56:28 Exactly. That's what I'm saying. Like, why are they fighting for this when they, like, all of Eric's wealth, all of Eric's, all, it's, it's, almost probably, all of Eric's wealth, all of Eric's, like, like everything your lizard's all the fucking chairman of him. But all of Eric's
Starting point is 01:56:50 wealth and everything went to his family. Yes. Right? Absolutely. Guys, they can have it. They can fucking have everything. Exactly. I don't think.
Starting point is 01:57:02 I'm not speaking forward for it. I haven't spoke to about it, right? I had it all set up anyway and go to the kids. No, it does. It goes to the kids, but the house also, but the house one goes to the kids.
Starting point is 01:57:23 until they're 18. So that's what Corey is fighting for. I'm like, they're acting like I'm some snake, Bryce. Like I'm some, I don't get it. I don't get it.
Starting point is 01:57:35 I don't get it. They can have it. Take it all. Take it all. So just what Corey is saying. Like what their attorney said, like everything goes to the kids. The kids are set up for life.
Starting point is 01:57:44 The kids are completely. Yeah, stop mid. Guys, I have so much to say. I probably should have taken notes. I kept wanting to pause it and say, thoughts. Let's see what I can remember. Thanks for your comments. I started some of them, too.
Starting point is 01:57:59 Someone just asks, is this a nail in the coffin? And honestly, I wonder too. Not because, you know, if you add all the evidence we've already heard and then this call, like he said, she's caught in her lies. But also, if we're going to talk character development, like, I think overall she's very unlikable to me. This is me. So Lauren's opinions. I think she's, she comes across is very unlikable to me. I mean, some of the things, first off, you know, I thought her grief book interview was cringe, and then I heard these calls. She's much more likable in the grief book interview with Good Things, Utah. This, well, first off, her voice is a struggle for me, but, you know, to each their own. And then, you know,
Starting point is 01:58:53 and then her wines and her high pitch. And Grayson pointed out, I don't even know why she's calling him. People are pointing out she's calling him to persuade him to be on their side, to gain his sympathy. There is no reason to call him. Why are they calling him?
Starting point is 01:59:11 They're calling him to Bryce to manipulate him. They know he's friends with the richons. Because they, and I should not say they, I should say Corey. Corey is Chelsea, it was actually really hard to see Chelsea on the stand there, wiping tears. I think she realizes now what this is and that she was manipulated too by her best friend. So when I say they, I should probably, I'm referring to Corey, but there were two of them on the call. This is what people do when they, when they triangulate, when they're trying to win sides, when there's a smear campaign, when they're manipulative, manipulating and manipulative.
Starting point is 01:59:52 She doesn't make any point. She's lying right and left. She's misrepresenting the situation. It's a lot of word salad. Nothing makes sense. They won't let Bryce talk either. They're not there to listen to Bryce. They're there to persuade, convince, and earn and gain Bryce's sympathy there, right?
Starting point is 02:00:13 They keep cutting them off. But they, you know, which one is it? Do you have $11 million? One moment she's saying, I don't make Eric money. the next moment she's saying she has $11 million. One moment she's saying that they're trying to take her home away. And the next moment, they're saying, well, it's in the trust and it belongs to the kids. And they're waiting.
Starting point is 02:00:35 At one point, she's saying, she's explaining, well, they're waiting for the autopsy to come back. Because Bryce says, I don't understand why they won't just let you have your house. Well, it's the kid's house. It's not the sisters. It's not Katie and Amy. It's the kid's house. But they're waiting. They want to make sure that she's.
Starting point is 02:00:52 she's not involved. They're waiting for the autopsy to come back. And, you know, she's irate about that. My thought is, well, then if you haven't done anything, wait for the autopsy to come back. Wait, wait for it to come back. What are you so afraid of? If you have nothing to do with this and the sisters are saying, you know, you'll have the house. We want to wait for the autopsy to come back first. Wait for the autopsy. You know, I get it. You want your house. Okay. Wait for the autopsy. It is your kid's house. Thank goodness. You know, a few things that Bryce says makes me realize how bad this marriage was. I don't think, you know, trust me, I'm not, I'm not, I don't think Eric was a saint.
Starting point is 02:01:37 I really don't. I think he was probably controlling a bit. And I think it's really interesting. Bryce reiterates it here, how everybody always says to Corey or on the stand. there's been a few people that have testified to this now. Eric loved Corey and wanted to make it work. She was the mother to his children. And Bryce said that again, you know, Eric, Eric, I would say, why didn't she divorce her?
Starting point is 02:02:01 And he said, I love her. She's the mother to my children. Let me just say this. If someone loved me because I was simply just the mother to their children, I would be not very happy. You know, they clearly, I don't know if, you know, Corey is simply. love for herself in this relationship. She's the mothers with the children. At the same time, I mean,
Starting point is 02:02:29 I don't love Corey, you know. She's not very likable in this call. So I'm not necessarily blaming anyone either. She's, I don't know, it was cringe for me. It's a lot of word salad. It rubs me the wrong way. It gives me like, I actually, like I joked with Grace and what we were listening to in the courtroom. I'm like, this is like giving me PTSD because I feel it's this thing that people do to twist and to get people on their side and manipulative. It's a smear campaign. That's that's what Corey's doing here. She's twisting the narrative. Let's also, you know, she's calling and saying things that just simply aren't true and making her look like the victim and implying, you know, all of these things and not letting.
Starting point is 02:03:19 him talking, just trying to gain his sympathy and confuse people and say, you don't know the whole story and this. And when he starts to try to reason with her and say, you know, I have empathy, but this is what I've heard. She cuts them off and says, no, you know, this is the story. Other things that I, that I, that I noticed in this. And, you know, and the jury, they're well aware of her, of her finances now. They're well aware, this is all a lie. They're well aware that. They're well aware that Corey is absolutely lying through her teeth there. Let's talk about the anger and the competitiveness in her. It's like, I don't know, I don't know what it is.
Starting point is 02:04:00 It's so unattractive to me, this whole, first off, she's talking about a recently deceased husband, you know, being so healthy that, you know, she was, you know, he beat her in the half marathon. She's not even, maybe they're competitive in real life while he was alive and she was so upset that he was able to beat her by 40 minutes. You know, she's, he's dead now. You'd think that this would be something where she'd say, oh, you know, it was so cute that, you know, it was so wonderful. He always beat me. But she's like sitting there saying, I'm so angry. How dare he, you know, he beat me in this. It was so mad, that asshole. And, you know,
Starting point is 02:04:37 and Bryce is just chuckling along. And then there's like sort of threatening of violence to everyone. Like, I'm going to, you know, the medical examiner, the educated medical examiner where she's like, and then I was like, it's not COVID because my husband's anti-COVID. I'm like, I'm pretty sure we're all anti-COVID. I don't know anyone that's pro-COVID. You know, she better not put him as COVID down or else I am going to get the ghost of my husband to come and beat you up. Like, it was just like, Who? Like, are we 12? Like, you're going to go, you know, get the ghost of your husband to go meet the medical examiner by the flagpole and say, don't you dare give me COVID because I don't know. It's like so weird. I don't get it. I don't get it. You know, and then the fact that she's recording it to me, it just shows how delusional. she is. She's recording it to kind of share what, you know, she thinks that this is going to prove something. And then to lie about what the medical examiner is saying to her, you know, the lung infection all over. And then to say, there's no way he died of a lung infection. That's really weird. You know, she's lying about her conversation with the medical examiner, very basic things that she thinks she can pull the wool over everyone's eyes, you know, when there's going to be factual evidence
Starting point is 02:06:13 with all this stuff. You know, she's under investigation. Clearly, they're suspicious of her. You'd think that she had just say what the medical examiner said, you know? It's, yeah, Dululu, Corahor. And look, I have tried very hard to keep my, my empathy for Corey. I've tried, actually, in this trial. I continue to try to see her side, to see that if this was someone who wanted more
Starting point is 02:06:42 freedom, you know, who wanted to get away from, from a husband that wasn't giving her opportunity and just wanted her to be a stay-at-home mom. I've tried and I've tried to give her the benefit of the doubt and see things from her side, being in a family where maybe she was the outsider, you know, that pre-nup, the day of her wedding, like, okay, all those things, okay. And then these calls come out. And I'm just like, oh, oh, it's so, it's so. bad. Let me read a few of the things you guys said. And maybe it'll help remind me of the few of things I wanted to say. All right, starred comments. Let's go down here. Okay, so a lot of people saying, Bet you Bryce is having some regrets here. I'm sure he is, but he was also really pushed.
Starting point is 02:07:28 You know, he kept trying to be reasonable. It kept getting pulled into this. You know, if she owns 11 properties, why freak out about one? Well, you know, if it was her home and her, I really try to say, well, if it was her home and it was, you know, sent her to her kids' stability, she'd care, but again, just wait for the autopsy. What she's saying is that they're simply saying, well, we just want to make sure that everything's good to go in the autopsy, right? Maybe those 147 employees can start a co-fund me for you. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:07:56 Oh, wait. And then she says, I just want my house. I just want my house. Wah-W. She cried more over the house than Eric passing away, right? That was really unlikable. The forensic accountant said, Corey could sell all of her property.
Starting point is 02:08:11 and she was still not have enough money to be out of debt. Exactly. Just this idea that she has $11 million. And again, repeatedly kind of trying to earn the pity of Bryce by saying, I don't make Eric money and then saying, well, I made $11 million. You know, it's just it's, yeah, it doesn't work. Since Corey was a multimillionaire in the tune of $11 million, why didn't she simply offer to purchase the house from the house from the trust?
Starting point is 02:08:36 Yeah, that would be a great idea. Gossip rumor. Thank you so much for being here, Kathy. Catherine Smith says it's only money, Corey, and you're rolling in it, allegedly. So just cut your losses and purchase your home from the trust. That's chump change. Exactly. Make it make sense.
Starting point is 02:08:52 She's saying she doesn't care about the money because the life insurance people are on to her. She knows the game is up. Yes, I also think this is a panic call. You know, most moms put kids first, right. She should be actually feeling reassured that Eric set up a trust going to the children, the children will be taking care of, right? Her children will be taken care of. Yeah, someone else. What was Corey even trying to achieve with this call? And Grayson says the whole
Starting point is 02:09:23 call, I was trying to figure out why they called them in the first place. And then Mrs. Martin says this, and I agree. Grayson, I think they were using him to plead her case. So he would go back to cops and family and say, she's not a bad person. And he had an end with the family. She's trying to convince people, sway people to her side, let them, you know, you know, just, it's very twisty, as I call it. Kalu says they were trying to get him on their side, but Corey's lying to both of them. Yeah, both Chelsea and Bryce. I agree with this.
Starting point is 02:09:54 After seeing this, I'm like, okay, so this is who Corey Richens really is. Corey trusts no one and only manipulates people to see things her way. Those who can't don't get to stay in her life. It's heartless. Yeah, I mean, like I said, I have tried to really see things from Corey's side and really kind of keep my mind open for and have some empathy for. And so just that alone, just the emotions of listening to this call really affected me. I thought, wow, Corey, Corey is just simply really manipulative, so manipulative that even her best friend there that's with her on that call, her right or die. She didn't tell her she didn't own her own house. and went to foreclosure and her friend lost her house, best friend. Rowan says, I call people like Corey master manipulators because I guarantee you there is a one person in her life she doesn't try to control with manipulation, including her children.
Starting point is 02:10:51 Yeah, exactly. If I have learned anything from true crime, never write anything or be on the phone to say anything again, anything. Yeah, I know. And I always assume you're being recorded. Unfortunately, you know, it's actually, that's also terrible. I mean, I mean, great. I'm glad she recorded this call because of the evidence for court,
Starting point is 02:11:13 but at the same time doing that to Bryce, you know, not only did they call to use Bryce to gain his sympathy and pity them and pull him onto their side and confuse him, they recorded his call, you know, without him knowing, you know, it's just that in itself is manipulative. Yeah, what does she think she's accomplishing with these bizarre lies. I mean, does she just think she's that believable? This one. Thank you, Catherine. This is exactly what I was thinking. Corey, the jack of all trades, including medical examiner expertise, so full of
Starting point is 02:11:48 shit. Yeah. The sort of grandiosity in her, here is a woman who's a medical examiner that knows what she's talking about. And Corey's just, you know, she's getting bitchy with me. She's telling me this. And I'm like, I'm going to beat you up. And, you know, it's just, just, and that's not the way she's talking. I don't even know I'm going there, but there's just something so, you know, I mean, even, I don't know, I mean, clearly the medical examiner didn't say that, but her talking back to the medical examiner and saying, nope, not true. And the medical examiner is getting bitchy with her. How did she talk? Let me do it right. Like, I, it was just this like the whole time. It was like this and just, you know,
Starting point is 02:12:37 And then the medical examiner is going to bitchy with me. I'm like, dude, are you the medical examiner? I mean, just have some humility. Sit down. Just sit down. You know? And yeah, the house isn't yours. It's your children's wonderful.
Starting point is 02:12:52 And look, if the autopsy comes back, great, then we're good. Everybody's good. And we know you didn't have anything to do with this. And this is so funny too, right? So after she's telling the medical examiner that she knows more than she does and, you know, Um, since Eric's anti-COVID, don't, don't give him COVID. That was, you know, everyone's anti-COVID. Uh, she says, she knows everything about all these illnesses, but didn't know what Tylenol was, right? Because we've heard a call with the medical examiner. Remember that? Where she talks,
Starting point is 02:13:21 you know, Christiansen. And she's like, what's that? What's Syracool? She has a prescription for Syracool. You know, what's, you know, asking about Tylenol. So you're seeing all these different Cori is dependent upon who she's manipulating when she's talking to Bro. Browski Bryce, Pantless Brooski Bryce, she's just crying and swearing and saying I'm going to go, you know, meet someone at the flagpole and beat them up and be competitive, you know. And then when she's talking to a medical examiner, she's actually saying, oh, help me, I'm innocent. I don't know what's what. Help me, help me. We're seeing so many Corrie's. Who's Corey Richie? We've also seen the grief book mom, Corey. We're seeing best friend, write or die, Corey. Who's Corey Richens? Who is she? You know? Yeah, thank you, Carrie. I start all these guys. These are the ones I liked. These are the ones that just really resonated with me. You know, and I thought Lori was dim. Carrie says, I know, like I, I listened to this and it was cringe. It was just in so many ways. The delusion that she was going to pull the wool over people's eyes, what she was saying, recording it. I think if it wasn't recorded, maybe I would think that she was just thinking, okay, you know, she's just going to have this weird conversation. But she's recording this.
Starting point is 02:14:44 Like what, for posterity sake? For a murder trial? Like this is, she shouldn't have recorded this. She should not have recorded this. Mrs. Martin says she wants reassurance and to see what his response is, gauge what he's telling other people, including the cops. Yes. I agree.
Starting point is 02:15:00 That's also like the triangulation, right? She's, she's gauging. She's, she's doing a gut check. She's, she's figuring. it out and she's trying to get in her story there too right um it's hard to be caught i agree laura debby yeah lies everything's so good that she has her boy toy and wanted to go on vacation with him lies making up stories to cover her tracks yeah i agree she's making up stories to cover her tracks but they're bad stories and they're dumb stories and you know again what murder documentaries did she
Starting point is 02:15:33 watched i mean this is just she's dim like like no Right. And my hubby just said, if you have $11 million in houses, take your eyes to your own house. I don't even know how to process it. It was just, it was just confusing. Okay, tell you about the jury reaction. So the jury was more attentive during these calls than any other time during the day. And they were always attentive. I'm not saying they never weren't attentive. These were attentive jurors. They were taking notes. They were listening. Everybody was quiet while listening to this. I think everyone was actually a bit mesmerized. I mean, we were getting an inside, inside look.
Starting point is 02:16:13 And at Corey, we've never seen. We've seen a lot of Corrie's. We've seen innocent, naive Corey. We've seen grief book mom, Corey. We've definitely seen texting Corey. You know, she loves using colorful language and text. But now we're seeing angry, uh, juvenile,
Starting point is 02:16:36 defensive, manipulative, competitive, braggadocious, lying, Corey in these. We're seeing every type of manipulation. There isn't Corey here. It's just, it's really
Starting point is 02:16:52 unlikable. And after listening to this, I trust her less. I don't believe a word she says now. That's the bottom line for me. And I'm talking to someone like, you know, watching this. I have my feelings. I've always said there's reasonable doubt in this trial.
Starting point is 02:17:10 Always, always. I believe that every defendant deserves a good defense. I do think that there was a chance for reasonable doubt. There still is. But this just paints a picture of who Corey is. And it's, you don't know. Like, who is she? She's a chameleon.
Starting point is 02:17:26 She's manipulative. And she, I don't trust the single thing she says now. you know she's lost me um she's desperate right mrs martin my husband wants to say thank you for the shout out i need to give you a shout out mrs martin has been our our newest trial mod and you have been incredible all of the mods are trouble maker breaker everyone and i'm not trying to all of the mods here are so incredible so thank you for all that you have done does she really have a master's i know i don't know now I'm doubting everything about her now. Maybe she does, but I don't know. Have we seen the degree? Yeah, braggadocious. I think that was from like a word I use in eighth grade.
Starting point is 02:18:13 Corey has gone me back to like my junior high level. You know, I'm thinking of like words like braggadocious. 1992 called back. Yeah, sociopath. I'm sure of it. She even had her backup supply affair that she could easily control. Poor Josh. I mean, that's where I go too. Seeing so many different sides of Corey depending on who she's talking to. I wonder that too. And again, the idea that she wants to prove herself and she wants to have her independence and live her own life, those things are all fair. I think to use a word of the defense, fair, right? I think it's fair that a woman maybe wants to be more than a stay-at-home mom,
Starting point is 02:18:54 wants to prove herself, wants to start a business, wants to have a life outside of homemaking, wants more out of life, wants to chase some dreams, get it. That is a quarry that has my attention. But then she says she can do it all on her own, but then wants, but needs Eric's millions to do it. She wants Eric to fund her independence. She wants Eric, and this is what we learned, this isn't even how to do with the murder. She, she wants Eric's, millions. I mean, whether, you know, divorce or not because she says, you know, it's going to be hard to divorce them because she wants the money, but she doesn't care about the money, but she wants it. So, so which is it? But she's saying, she has all this talk about independence and proving
Starting point is 02:19:45 herself and, you know, being worthy of this. And yet she feels entitled to her husband's millions in order to do that. Dead, dead or alive. Um, um, Right? Because here he is dead and she's, she's demanding it, even though her kids have it. That's a great place to be. Right. Your kids, she's just not the trustee, but her kids, everything in the trust goes to her children. Thank goodness. And she's saying, hey, look. So, so dad, I want his money. I need his millions. I'm an independent woman. Hear me roar. I need all his money. and alive, she's talking about divorce and crying to her friends saying, you know, I'm afraid that I'm not going to get this money if I get divorced. So again, she has an affair. She wants what she wants, but then she feels somehow entitled to everything Eric earned to make it work, to buy the Midway Mansion, to make it an event center, to live this dream life of proving herself she needs to do it.
Starting point is 02:20:59 on someone else's back. And that's her husband. I just, I just, yeah, will the real Corey Richards please stand up? She did today, in my opinion. So, all right. Those are my thoughts. We still have a few more text messages, so I probably shouldn't have done that for so long. But I just needed to process that.
Starting point is 02:21:21 Again, yeah, here are the text messages. Corey, they said it's ready and they have me on a lot. list to come and get the official report. Oh, so the medical report is ready. And the death certificate has now been updated. So I'm rushing to get it before Katie's dumb ass. She writes to Chelsea. Chelsea writes, I was going to ask you if you might run into them. What if you do see them today? Holy shit, I'm freaking out. And then later, Chelsea said, is everything okay? Corey states, A trace, a fentanyl, manner of death, undetermined. His lungs were shot to shit.
Starting point is 02:22:02 Something containing fentanyl, it put his lungs overboard and they shut down. Chels, I think it's finally fucking over. Fucking over. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven exclamation points. I'm waiting on my attorney to call me and confirm that, but I think it's over, exclamation points. I'm bawling. Chelsea, holy shit. Is that what the medical examiner said? So are they done with the investigation too? Like, did they find where he got the fentanyl from? Holy shit, friend, it is over. And Friday, we get to see more
Starting point is 02:22:36 about it and have everything over like, holy shit. It looks like with the silicosis, COVID and then fentanyl, it just got his lungs. Did they say how much fentanyl that is? Corey, text you in a few. So Bloodworth had no further questions and the defense had no questions for Chelsea. But then up next was another one of Corey's childhood friends named Allie Stocking. Ali Stocking came to the stand. Beautiful. I thought, wow, this looks like a runway model coming in here to the witness stand. And it turns out that Ali and Corey met in junior high school.
Starting point is 02:23:13 And Ali said she was one of Corey's best friends. And by the way, I should know that I have seen Ali before. other hearings. And she was actually asked, I remember, to no longer go. hearings, I knew her as Corey's friend. She was there supporting Corey. And then she was asked no longer attend court because she would be a witness. So here she is. Again, I recognize this, this beautiful woman. She's on the stand. So she's one of Corey's best friends. They attended a Finding True Self Retreat together in Sedona, Arizona in February 2021. So a little over a year before Eric died, they attend this Finding True Self retreat in Sedona, Arizona. And as part of the
Starting point is 02:23:54 retreat, each of them wrote their life story in third person. Bloodworth tried to admit the exhibit, but the defense objected. The judge called for a sidebar and denied the motion at that time. Bloodworth asked Stocking if she knew about Corey's house cleaning business. She said she and her kids' dad had planned to hire Corey, but she didn't know the business was struggling financially. Butterworth also asked if she knew Josh Grossman. That's the paramour, her boyfriend. Stocking said she knew of him because Corey had told her about him. Corey had said they were having an affair in June 2020.
Starting point is 02:24:28 And on February 20th, 2022, Corey told Stocking she had broken things off with Grossman nine months earlier. And during a visit on February 20th, staking, Corey, Eric, and two other friends were present. Eric said he thought Corey had tried to poison him on Valentine's Day. but then everyone else thought it was just an allergic reaction. And then they all laughed at the story. So now we're learning that Eric actually, you know, told Corey what she thought too.
Starting point is 02:24:59 So Eric jokingly said he thought Corey had poisoned him to Corey. And Corey said that wasn't true. She said he had just had an allergic reaction. So that's interesting. Right now we learned Corey even confronted or Eric even confronted Corey about it. Then there was another issue at the bench about. the letter being admitted as evidence. And the court then looked at a document
Starting point is 02:25:19 Corey had written at the women's retreat telling her life story and third person. It covered her parents moving her to 17 states, her mom's gambling addiction, her father going to prison. We're learning more about Corey in this letter than we have, you know, in other ways. Their home being foreclosed and cars being repossessed.
Starting point is 02:25:38 It detailed Corey graduating high school in 2007, getting pregnant in college, getting married a few years later, having her second son and then her third son in 2016. It covered her life spiraling downward, discovering her husband's emotional affair, going to counseling for anxiety and depression and feeling she had to chase happiness because she was never enough for her husband. So now we're learning even more about the real Corey Richens.
Starting point is 02:26:04 So let's take a look at this letter. I'll read it here. So this letter written in third person, she wrote of this retreat with her right or die. Ali, that's on the stand. Corey was born in 1990 in Oklahoma. Her parents were married and worked for the same engineering company. They were both previously married with children. Her father had a daughter.
Starting point is 02:26:29 Tanya and her mother had a son and a daughter, Renee and DJ. Together, Corey's parents had Corey and her brother Ronnie. Ronnie and Corey had to move a lot when they were kids. From 1990 to 1994, they lived in 17 different states due to their parents' work. Corey's father was a success. engineer, but he was also an alcoholic and had been most of his life. In 1996, he was drinking and driving and fell asleep at the wheel and hit and ran over a cop who had another car pulled over on the side of the road. He was put in prison for the next six and a half years. Corey's mom, who today is
Starting point is 02:27:04 her best friend, had her own addiction. She is a compulsive gambler. Once Corey's father was put in prison, her mom then filed for divorce in 1998 and continued working full-time rarely being home. Tanya Corey's dad's daughter was raised by her mom, DJ. Corey's half-brother lived with his father. However, Corey's older sister helped Corey's mother raise Corey and Ronnie while their mom worked. Once Renee turned 18, she left and never had a relationship again with Corey or Ronnie because she blames them for having to help raise them and destroying her life as a kid. In 2000, Corey and Ronnie and their mom moved to Utah to be closer to their mom's sister and finally settled down.
Starting point is 02:27:53 However, their mom's gambling addiction made life as a kid difficult. Their mother was a compulsive gambler and there was a casino only a couple hours from our home. Every other weekend growing up, we would spend it in a hotel room while mother gambled. Eventually, our home was foreclosed on, multiple cars repossessed, and ends were barely being met. Corey's mother spent everything and more to fulfill her addiction needs, even if that meant losing our home multiple times. Corey lost trust in her parents at a very young age. She graduated from high school in 2007 when she was 17, eager to be in college and have a stable life, making a stable life for herself. She began college and met her now husband.
Starting point is 02:28:40 When Corey met her husband, she instantly fell for the idea of a marriage with kids and a happy family, a stable family because that was her dream. Corey got pregnant her sophomore year of college, which was very unexpected. At the time, Corey's relationship was very rocky, but she thought, no, once the baby gets here, I'll be happy and everything will be fine. Corey had her first son in 2010 and graduated college that same year. She then got married in 2013 because she told herself, when I get married, I'll be happy. In 2014, she had her second son because she told herself another baby will make me happy.
Starting point is 02:29:17 Corey then started graduate school in 2016 because that will fill this hole and make me happy, but it didn't. In 2017, she had her third son and her life spiraled downhill. She graduated from grad school in 2018, I'll believe her on that. However, she also found out her husband had been having. an emotional affair. Corey went to counseling on and off because of anxiety, depression, this constant need to chase happiness and her husband emotionally. She is exhausted from years of hearing, quote, you're selfish, you're not enough and you need
Starting point is 02:29:52 me from her husband. She's ready to open her heart and find the happiness that's already there and stop looking for it, end quote. So after that, you know, maybe a little bit of empathy back for Corey a bit. It's not an easy childhood. I think that was honest. I actually think that maybe that's the honest, Corey, we just read there, right? Okay.
Starting point is 02:30:20 It's a hard life. Explains a lot. It explains a lot, a lot. We just learned more about Corey there than we have in my entire backstory that I did and in all of trial. I think it's straight from her heart. I think that's really honest. After that, Bloodworth had no further questions. And Wendy Lewis took over for direct examination because Ali was visiting from out of town.
Starting point is 02:30:50 So Ali's staking. Her ride or die was very clear that she's still her ride or die. Unlike Chelsea, who seems to have had some realization that her best friend from junior high isn't who she always thought she was. Ali seems like she is still a right or die, still believing in her best friend Corey. So Staking said she and her family did things with the Richens family, including a trip to Hawaii in early 2018 for a friend's wedding. And on that trip, Corey found out that Eric had hidden THC gummies in her suitcase. Corey was upset, but Staking said it was a funny story. Staking said Eric thought it was hilarious.
Starting point is 02:31:31 She lived in California and visited Utah about a month before Eric died. And Lewis asked if Staking had taken gummies with Eric on that trip. And she said, no, the gummies made Corey sick because they were bad. But she had taken gummies with the richons before, as had all their friends occasionally. Lewis asked where Staking and her friends were getting the T.HC. Gummies and then Staking said they came from one particular person. The prosecution kept objecting based on foundation. And the judge called for yet another sidebar.
Starting point is 02:31:59 again, Staking said all the gummies were from the same person. Lewis asked if she was ever there when they were purchased or delivered. She said she wasn't. She said someone had told her where they came from. Staking then said that she learned about Eric's death from a friend's call. She cried and booked a flight for the next day. She arrived in Utah on March 5th and said that Corey was distraught and grieving. Staking said nothing about Corey's behavior at the celebration of life.
Starting point is 02:32:29 though struck her as unusual. She said the gathering at the riddons home, the night after Eric died was informal. People came to offer condolences. There was alcohol. Kids were playing. People were sharing memories of Eric and some were dancing. And Lewis admitted a photo showing Corey, Bryce, Ali, Chelsea, and Amy, Eric's sister at the celebration of life, staking stayed overnight and was there the next day when Amy came.
Starting point is 02:32:53 At that time, Corey was trying to open a safe that belonged to Eric. to see what his will said, but she couldn't get into his safe because she didn't know the code. And so a locksmith was called to try to open the safe, but Amy ran into the garage as Eric's sister to stop him, stop the locksmith. Staking said Corey was frustrated, shaking and crying, but Ali felt her reaction was valid. Lewis then asked about the sandwich conversation with Eric and their friends, and they joked about Eric having an allergic reaction and needing an epipin. They said, don't eat what Corey gives you. Eric wasn't upset and joked along, though, according to this witness.
Starting point is 02:33:38 He just thought it was funny. And Allie also said that Corey and Eric were getting along better than they had in a long time during the visit. So on redirect, though, Bloodworth brought up back. He asked about the Hawaii trip and if it was funny because Corey hadn't been caught with the gummies. Staking said it was funny because Corey didn't know. Bloodworth asked if people used gummies at the celebration of life and Staking said she didn't know. Ludworth asked of Bryce removed his pants. Rowski-Brice removed his pants during the celebration.
Starting point is 02:34:06 And Staking said, probably, but the photo shown in court was taken before that. After showing a photo from the party, Bloodworth had nothing further. Lewis came back and asked if Staking had been two other wakes. She said she had and that there was nothing unusual about them. they tried to keep things light and happy for the kids. Amy, Bryce, and Chelsea also spent the night at the home, the night of the wake. And then after that, there were no further questions. So there you go.
Starting point is 02:34:37 There you go. It was a really interesting day. To me, one of the most interesting days of trial so far because we learned about Corey Richens. I learned a lot more about Corey Richens. I think what we're interested here in Hidden True Crime is the hidden motives, right? I see some hidden motives in Corey. Yeah. Chasing something that she's never going to get.
Starting point is 02:35:03 I don't know. You know. I just think it's very clear that Corey doesn't know who she is. So, yeah, it's interesting. It's interesting. So anyway, it was a riveting, a riveting day. this was another very long live. There was a lot to cover. And I, grateful for all of you here in chat, thanks for sticking with me. A lot of thoughts and
Starting point is 02:35:32 opinions from me today. You can disagree with me. Forgive me if any of my opinions aren't yours. I understand. I respect that. But I was literally processing all of this in real time with all of you. So thanks. No court tomorrow. No court tomorrow. we have we have plans here tomorrow and and i'll be able to share more about them at a later date and yeah so uh and then i'll be traveling back and i also have a few other cases to bring you there's a lot going on so hit subscribe and hit notification a hate to support us it it means a lot so thank you so much but be um truly because uh there's going to be a lot happening and i don't want you to miss um things as they come
Starting point is 02:36:22 Also a little bit of tea today earlier in the trial day. We learned what the prosecution essentially has planned. Their last witness they want on the stand is to be Detective O'Driscoll, and then that'll be it for the prosecution, the state. And they suspect that that could be as early as maybe late Monday or early Tuesday. So there you go. Maybe this trial is going to wrap up faster than five weeks. then it will be the defense's turn to bring their witnesses. So I also thought it was really interesting today watching somebody who stands by Corey.
Starting point is 02:37:01 That doesn't always happen in cases like this. And then somebody like Chelsea, who clearly stood by Corey for years and years and years and has been hit with a somber reality that she's probably still processing. So all right. Okay. See you this weekend. Bye bye. Most people don't realize how much their personal information is being bought and sold every day.
