Starting point is 00:02:01 No big deal, but luckily for all of us We got the best possible filling you could possibly have One the only mr. Jack fritz fritzy man a cold shiver went down my spine when I heard the go bird No, it's good though because I Listen for everyone that's like at home. Oh my god hates the Eagles, hates the Eagles, hates the Eagles, when Walker and I are walking through town, he makes sure that we go and see this little eagle painting. And he starts with an E. And then we belt out an Eagles chant. So don't you worry about it.
Starting point is 00:02:33 I'm fully locked in. Yeah. I mean, Walker, knowing the Eagles chant alone is just great parenting by you. I'm proud of that. That's good work. Now it takes some encouragement along with me. We got to go A.
Starting point is 00:02:44 Oh, yeah. He follows along for me like we gotta go a oh, yeah Yeah, yeah a little over too. Yeah. No, I'm talking about a 10 year old I don't think Zoe had the Eagles chant till she was like five So I you know, it takes some time so real quick before we get into everything I mean a little surprising Elliott is seeing a band old like an older trust me I was surprised he had heard of Oasis honestly it's possible that he did not know who they were until the whole like Oasis is coming back and he's like oh Oasis who are they and then that that began his path to Wales that is absolutely possible or his wife
Starting point is 00:03:18 was just like loves Oasis yes that he's just there yep that too because the last time he went on a trip abroad to see someone was Spice Girls Oh, yeah, buddy, which is very up his alley Oasis does not scream like something. No, it's way too cool for Elliot. Oh, yeah Exactly and way too old and I know it sounds yeah I was listening Oasis when I was in, you know high school and college show Yeah, that's way way too early for a while champagne supernova. Elliot never would have thought Don't look back at anger Jack. That's all I'm saying. All right So yeah, that's way way too early for a while champagne supernova. Elliott never would have thought that's right
Starting point is 00:03:48 Don't look back at anger Jack. That's all I'm saying. All right two one five five nine two Ninety four and ninety four will obviously get this in Birds Day is go birds radio, but let's be honest I mean, yeah, it's just more than like what there's nothing going on with the birds right now You know, this is the one time of year literally This like five week stretch where it is kind of actually, you know Nothing to talk about with the birds But we do have a baseball team. We'll get into some eagle stuff coming up and we've got a fun game to play with you Later, too But but fritzy, I mean you and I I mean high hopes check it out if you never heard of the podcast
Starting point is 00:04:20 I hope it's podcast if you're a new listener, uh, let's talk a little fills too because It's kind of a weird a weird time with this team. It feels like any moment we all start to get excited and they're playing good baseball and then they'll win a series and then they'll handle business and then they'll lose nine to six against the Reds in an ugly game and stupid baseball and Alec Bohm's throwing his bat again. And it just feels like we can't, you know, get on a roll and just feel comfortable with this team, Jack.
Starting point is 00:04:49 Yeah. And at the same time, that's the nature of the sport. I mean, there's so much failure in it, it's hard to just say, hey, but like they've been on a pretty good run for an excited period of time. But man, when they throw a stinker, they sure can throw a stinker. Now, what's been nice about the last couple of stinkers that they've thrown is I actually give them credit for how they've battled back. I mean, that game with Abel, when Abel got shelled, that was the first game with a double header,
Starting point is 00:05:13 and they made it, they had the potter's and he used Robin's horse. They had a tying round of the play, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, so I give them credit for that. I get the winning round of the plate, actually. Yesterday, yesterday very easily could have been a win. Yesterday very easily could have been a win. It very easily could have been a win, even with what Lazardo did to start it.
Starting point is 00:05:30 And that's what made yesterday frustrating from that standpoint. Yeah, I mean, obviously I know it happens, but that was also a very, very winnable game. But I think when we're looking for a team that has some intestinal fortitude, I think they've shown that they're pretty dumb I mean, they're a pretty dumb baseball team. Yeah, I mean talking about that the Padres double-edder game You just talked about I mean Brandon Marshall almost ended the game as the you know
Starting point is 00:05:56 Run that doesn't matter at their base for no reason, you know Yep, but I have overall, you know been more impressed with this team than not. And there's been times this year where I thought that they could just fold and say, ah, we've got a bunch of old dogs here and we're running out of steam. I don't really feel that. I think some players obviously are. We could talk about Harper,
Starting point is 00:06:18 and JT's actually looking a little spry recently. But some of these older guys, they could have said, ah, not every year we got a bunch of free agents let's just chalk it up and get through the year and I think you're starting to see I think you're seeing a good amount of of a fight from this team which hasn't always been the case. Yeah absolutely hasn't always been the case and I do think that's important but it does it kind of you know raises the the question that's that's important, but it does. It kind of raises the question that's kind of at its specter over the whole season. And you can feel it as we're watching.
Starting point is 00:06:50 We really talked about this heading into the season. It's something we were concerned about. And it feels like that kind of no matter what happens with this fan base, as long as they're winning games to a point to your point, they've showed resiliency, they've had some really good stretches. And they have the best pitching staff we've ever seen in Philadelphia. You know that alone, you know, you think back to 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016,
Starting point is 00:07:13 if you told us that we were going to have these, these four starters on any team, like it'd be miraculous. It might be three starters. Yeah, we'll see what Lazaro. You're right. You're right. But right now, you know, like the staff is legit and we've got You know potential options coming and but it does kind of feel like whatever happens this season It always has that well, we'll see if they hit in October. Well, we'll see if they're hot at the right time in October You where you at with that because I feel like it's something that you and I do in the I hope spot all season long I've kind of vacillated back and forth on where we'll both go through stretches where
Starting point is 00:07:48 I've said things on the pod like, pay attention to this team, you're missing out on a fun to the point I just made. I remember 2015, 2016, I remember a 63 win baseball team and watching games in August and September where it literally was meaningless. It's like to your thing, Jagger playing for draft pick, you know? And I remember that. And in those moments you're like,
Starting point is 00:08:12 oh, well we're good again, I'm not gonna take it for granted. And now we're here, you know, fourth year into being a playoff team, contending team, playoff team, whatever you wanna call it. And we're halfway through the season and it does feel like there's a large portion of this fan base that just says, well, wake me up in October
Starting point is 00:08:31 and we'll see what happens. Yeah, I mean, just a reminder, Aaron Harang and AJ Burnett used to pitch for this team. Chad Billingsley, all those old guys that no one even remembers pitch for the Phillies. They don't remember they pitched for the Phillies. That's how horrible that time period was in baseball here. But you know, so I think two things.
Starting point is 00:08:51 One, I do think we are taking this team for granted, being as good as they are, being where, like just being a very, very good baseball team. But on the other hand I am and definitely more in the I don't think I can learn anything more about this team. I think that's where I've gotten to. I don't react too strongly to losses. I mean when they play horrible yeah it's hard not to react hard not to treat it like an Eagles game. When they win it's like well you should win you guys are good. So I
Starting point is 00:09:20 haven't I can't really learn anything else. We'll see what happens at the trade deadline. I think it's gonna be a pretty active one. Hopefully it's not just Hayes and Estevez Although it'd be funny they could kind of use Hayes and Estevez right now but I am definitely more I'm definitely having a hard time just Appreciating this because I Am just obsessed with at least winning two rounds, winning a round, going on another run again, and having this team believe in again. Or having the city believe in again.
Starting point is 00:09:56 It's almost like a defense mechanism for me where I can feel how people currently feel about the Phillies and my my my blocker goes up or whatever and I'm like just don't don't let me down don't let us down and I I am just I have gotten to the point where I've seen this team I know this team I've got a good feel for for who they are and there's really nothing that can change for the rest of regular season That's gonna make me feel one way or the other Harper is health is a is a big one There's gonna be players that are playing horribly right now that are going to heat up there's me players that are playing well right now that are going to cool off and
Starting point is 00:10:42 I just there I watch every day I love the Phillies cannot wait for for 405 today all that good stuff but I am I am annoyed at myself for how much I am just in the mindset of okay this is fun but it really doesn't matter until October yeah I get it And I do think there's a large portion of fan base that is there. And I do think that there is an argument to be made that when you look at how baseball has played out, particularly the last decade or so,
Starting point is 00:11:14 that it doesn't really matter until October. I mean, we keep bringing it up, but a team like the Texas Rangers two years ago had a 10 game losing streak in August. Imagine the Phillies lose 10 straight in August when they are competing for a playoff spot. But was it September? I thought it was September.
Starting point is 00:11:29 I thought maybe it was August. In September was maybe the end of August, in September, but it was late August at least. And they won the World Series. And it makes you wonder like, all right, well, if you could sit through a 10 game losing streak at the end of August, beginning of September, whatever, and look at that team. And then a month and a half later, sit through a 10 game losing streak at the end of August, beginning of September, whatever,
Starting point is 00:11:45 and look at that team and then a month and a half later they're winning the World Series. I don't know what to make of that, Jack. I don't know how to look at that because I do look at this Phillies team and I do understand that they just have to hit in October and all that, but I still watch them on a night to night basis thinking about October watching them For October are they good enough? Is this gonna kill us there like that stuff still matters to me in the moment even if I'm thinking about October I still need to see this now for October. Yeah, but do you though? I mean there's there's
Starting point is 00:12:20 We saw the Phillies in 2022 collapse down the stretch and And then we always say it's the same old adage. Well, you gotta get hot, you gotta be playing well at the right time. I don't even know how true that is anymore. You know, I mean, you just mentioned the Rangers, they collapsed down the stretch. The Phillies collapsed down the stretch in 22. And then they got in and got hot
Starting point is 00:12:38 and you give credit to that. But it's like, I almost, I go back to my main point of like, you're not learning anything new about this team. There's gonna be players that are playing well right now, they're gonna cool off. There's gonna be, now, I think we can both agree. We can both watch the bullpen and understand
Starting point is 00:12:55 that it's a huge change. It's just not good enough, yes, exactly. It has to change. But the truth is we have no idea what the offense is gonna look like. I think we can project, we can put this false bravado on or this doomer mentality. Either way you want to go and be like, no, that'll be fine.
Starting point is 00:13:12 Or they are who they are. We have no idea what that answer is going to be. So yeah, I'm mad at myself. I wish I was more in the camp of like, day to day, this is so fun. and it is fun. But I just, I have a hard time thinking how meaningful these wins are. You gotta get in the post season,
Starting point is 00:13:33 you gotta, I would like to win the division, I don't even matter to see you win the division. But I've certainly over the last, when they righted the ship, really after the Pirate series, when they righted the ship, I was like, all right, they're probably fine. There's gonna be more bumps, we get it. But I just need to see what they do in October
Starting point is 00:13:51 before I'm like, you know, all fired up about them. 215-592-9494, are you finding it hard to kind of get into this season? Not necessarily watch the games, but to believe in what you're seeing, to think that what you're seeing matters for October, you kind of where Jack is where maybe they'll hit in October, maybe they won't, we'll see, and that's really what's gonna decide whether this team wins the World Series
Starting point is 00:14:14 or not. 215-592-9494, that's on the table. In addition, I want to add one more Philly thing before we go to the phones, and again we do have a prize to give away, we'll tell you about that in a sec. Yeah, buddy. But quickly, one more thing with the Phil's, because I do want to throw it in, because I do think it jives with this whole discussion about, you know, October is the only thing that matters, or is it?
Starting point is 00:14:34 The other thing that matters for October is what this team is going to do in what's today. Today is July the 5th. I probably didn't need to look at my watch for the date, considering yesterday was the 4th. Happy 4th to everyone. You't need to look at my watch for the day considering yesterday was the 4th. Yeah, yeah. Happy 4th to everyone. You know, just looked at the watch. So we're 26 days away, 25 days away, something like that from the trade deadline. You know, with that in mind, Jack, your concept of, you know, we'll see if they hit or not.
Starting point is 00:14:59 How do you rationalize that at the trade deadline? How do you look at Dave Dombrowski right now and say, you know, go all in. I want you to trade a Justin Crawford or someone. Look, Mick Able I think is the line right now for people where I think most people would say, if you can get a real piece from Mick Able, go do it. That's fine. But after that, you know, I think there are real questions about whether they give up the Crawfords or the, you know, Taïtse or whoever those type of higher end prospects that are just below Miller and painter or Whether you kind of just do what Dave's done the last few years into your point you'll add the Austin Hayes as steves types and hope that you actually hit this time because Dave's been awful at those but you know, we've seen like look as steves has been good this year. Austin Hayes has been good this year
Starting point is 00:15:41 You're off on those guys This year Austin Hayes has been good this year. You're a year off on those guys. So do you think it's a play the margins, fill some holes, and hope guys hit? Or do you think this team needs to actually commit to this group in what feels like the last real opportunity to commit to this group? Well, what makes it even more annoying
Starting point is 00:16:00 is you talk about the miss on Hayes and Estevez. I mean, in 18, you got Steve Pearce to the deadline. You got Nathan deadline You got Nathan of all the in the deadline and Steve Pierce ended up being World Series MVP we everyone everyone listening remembers that I'm sure and And if all he was a monster out of the bullpen That was the first time that of all he turned into like a playoff guy a big game ace big game horse so And they're already kind of putting out feelers. You can just feel a trade for Dennis Santana in my, in my books.
Starting point is 00:16:29 Oh yeah, buddy. And he's, he's had a great year. He's got interesting stuff, but I get Interesting moment with fans too. Yeah. It was fighting fans. It's the most, it's the most lock 4.5 ERA I've ever seen. He's having a career year in his 30s and they get traded here No shot that works out well, but my my my overall sentiment and I was way more early in the season like I just want to ride it out and make a Minor tweak here minor tweak there, but do not touch the tight Arun Escobar
Starting point is 00:17:04 Aiden Miller there, but do not touch the Tyeet, Arun Escobar, Aidan Miller, Crawford, I always have thought is tradeable, and then Painter. Don't touch those guys. But as this season's gone on and as I think more about the Zach Wheeler clock that we know is ticking, and now Lazardo being more of a question mark than a lock, certainly you have like three starters,
Starting point is 00:17:25 and that's how it goes. But I am certainly more in the mindset of, you gotta give this team a shot. You gotta give them a shot to end it, to end this last little streak here of World Series, NLCS, NLDS, and then whatever happens this year, it's on a downward trend. And when you have Schwab up and Ranger up and JT up, you don't know what the future of this team is going to be. I am coming around to the idea
Starting point is 00:17:59 of like, push your chips in, go get a Buxton type. If you can get in the Jaren Durant sweepstakes and they want to move them, get in those sweepstakes, trade real pieces. Obviously we know they need a bullpen arm, but what I'm talking about at the trade deadline, it comes down to getting another difference, making bat in this lineup to help an older and now dealing with a wrist injury, Bryce, I mean, to just bank on him being great in the postseason and back to the old Bryce, we'll see. But you got to make a gamble at the July 31st trade deadline.
Starting point is 00:18:36 You got to make a decision there. And if I was a betting man, I would like another extra real bat in that lineup. So even if it costs a tie eat, I don't wanna trade Aiden, I don't really want, but like one of the Untouchables, it costs one of those guys,
Starting point is 00:18:52 I just wanna give this team all the wind at the back of their sails as they need. Because guess what? Dave Tabrowski's legacy is on the line here. And if he goes out and trades for real pieces and they come up short, I don't think we're gonna be sitting here and saying, well, I didn't give this team the best chance I could.
Starting point is 00:19:10 But last year was not the leave every stone unturned trade deadline like I thought it was gonna be. I hope that this year is. Yeah, so I've come around to that too. And you know, I had not always been there, but the more I've watched this team, the more I've thought about team, the more I've thought about, you know, something we talk a lot about in the pod, the idea that you'll look at how
Starting point is 00:19:29 many, you know, top 100, top 50 type prospects they have now more than, you know, anytime in recent history. And really that I remember my lifetime in terms of the high end talent in this, in this system right now. Like if you brought these guys in to draft and develop and they've done a good job and you trust them all of a sudden to with this process then you know the idea is you replenish those prospects. You trade away prospects, you replenish them, you keep building. Maybe they're not as good as the one you trade away. Maybe they are, you don't know, but that's the whole
Starting point is 00:19:57 point is you keep developing, drafting, and developing at a high level. It allows you to sustain both by bringing those players up to the majors, but using those players as trade chips. That's the formula. So I'm with you. I think that this team is, you know, this is the moment, man. And the more I think about how open it is, how much of a chance they have, how great their pitching is, how long Wheeler is going to be here, how great Harper can be for how
Starting point is 00:20:20 long if he has how much greatness at all he has left in him, all that I'm with you. It feels like this team really needs to commit enough of these half-ass like maybe Austin Hayes will be good maybe he won't he wasn't enough like it I'm with you dude it's time to make a real move add to this team get the right hand at bat in here that they've needed for this entire run since Reese Hoskins left it is I'm right there with you 2155-592-9494 to chime in on that, to chime in on whether you can kind of invest in this team in the regular season or if it's just playoffs, wake me up in October for you. And one more thing as we take the calls today to give you a chance to win a $50 Rita's Italian
Starting point is 00:21:02 Ice gift card. Try the new Rock It Pop, big Rock It Pop guy, at Rita's Italian Ice gift card. Try the new Rocket Pop, big Rocket Pop guy, at Rita's. Be cool, eat a Rita's. Obviously an awesome summer prize. Can't do much better than Rita's, Jack. What's your go-to Rita's? I'm a mango custard man. Like custard and the mango.
Starting point is 00:21:17 I tell you what, there's a huge faction of people that love mango water ice. I think it's the goat water ice. I just, I do. First off, not a great fruit. And so I would disagree with that. But I will say that I think the mango flavoring is actually better than the fruit for me. Yeah. So you got to get on the Swedish fish grind that. So I'm picking a fruit and you're like, oh, take the candy one. Yeah, it sounds great. Yeah. Yeah, I like that Swedish fish water ice. That's good
Starting point is 00:21:46 It was that they did your child turn you onto that is that? No, this is like this is at least Four years ago. All right. So here's how we're gonna do the Rita's water ice gift card winner Yeah, everyone's gonna have a chance today We're gonna play a classic game a game that I love a game that I call the from game I am going to give you a player now Jack and I have decided we're gonna do Eagles again shout to the birds it is go birds radio Eagles from 2000 on yep and I am going to give you a player Jack and you in this case you will be our guinea pig for this but I'm gonna give each caller a player and if you can tell
Starting point is 00:22:24 me where they went to college you will qualify to wininea pig for this, but I'm gonna give each caller a player, and if you can tell me where they went to college, you will qualify to win the prize. We're gonna pick a winner at the end of the show of the qualified winner. So Jack Fritz, for example, do you want a hard one, an easy one, a kind of down the middle one? Give me a down the middle one. Okay, I'll give you a down the middle one.
Starting point is 00:22:38 You know, your generation, your era. How about an all-time eagle? I think this is a little easier than hard, but where did the great Trent Cole go to college? Trent Cole went to the University of Cincinnati. He did! All right, that's how you do it Jack, well done. All right, so that's what we're gonna do. We'll throw a few more Jacks throughout the show as we go, but your chances listeners, I'm gonna throw a former Eagle or current Eagle at you, and you're going to tell us where they went to school.
Starting point is 00:23:06 All right, let's go to the phones and start out where we do every single week of this time. Let's go to Abington and talk to our ready Tom. Yo, Tom! Yo, fellas! How we doing today? Here he is. Here he is.
Starting point is 00:23:16 Yup. I'm going to talk to you in a minute, John Fritz. I know, pal. I know. I haven't seen you in a ball game in a while. I love the commitment to John Fritz. It know pal. I know I haven't seen you in a ball game in a while. I love the commitment to John Fritz. It's really, you're committed and I appreciate it. Yeah, so you practicing your pitching there John?
Starting point is 00:23:34 I was at Plymouth White Marsh High School earlier today. So I was throwing with a local kid. The site where it will all go down. Yeah, yeah. The site where I will be. As will I, yeah. The site where I will be. As will I, Tom. We can hang out and watch together. Super. You're damn skippy, giving the hammer our support, right?
Starting point is 00:23:53 Yeah. I'm a neutral observer. I'm like Switzerland. Yeah, I disagree. I know. That's fair, James. That's fair. So are you throwing strikes there, Jon?
Starting point is 00:24:01 Yeah, I've got three strikes to my fastball for sure. I feel pretty confident that when I need a strike, I will be able to get a strike. I currently hope that my arm will hold up. But I did throw 55-ish pitches straight, so I didn't sit down at all. And it was fine. It was fine.
Starting point is 00:24:19 So did you just take golf lightly and you just thought you were just going to wipe them out? No, well, yeah, I definitely did. I played five rounds of golf in three years. And I played five holes heading into that. So yes, 100%. And then once I got out there, the pressure really got to me. So if we played 18, I don't know how I feel pretty confidently
Starting point is 00:24:42 about how it was going to go. But through the first five holes, it was certainly a debacle. Yeah, you also learned what I've learned with beat the hammer for the last eight and a half years Is that the guy is the most annoying competitor of all time? Well, he's not like fun to compete with. That's what I mean. That's what I mean. Like again, like I can't do I can't I've ever met. I can't do a radio bit Like contest thing without like him like yelling at me about like you said this I'm gonna go back and listen to it and I'm gonna contest this radio bit. So yeah, I feel you buddy
Starting point is 00:25:15 It's not even competitive this though. Like it's like I'm competitive too. It's just it's it's a it's an annoying way to But it's not like I'm a bro when it comes to competitiveness. He's not a bro. He's not a bro at all. As a pertains to the Phillies guys, James, you know where I stand with this. You hate the Phillies. I wake up in October. It's not that I hate them.
Starting point is 00:25:36 I just hate what they've done to us. I think they blew their shot against the Diamondbacks. I think that was the year for this squad. I think they was the year for this squad. I think that Mr. shot and listen that the pitching staff is probably the best I've ever seen in my life. You might be the best staff that they've ever had in their long history, but then the other three are suspected best bullpen offense defense.
Starting point is 00:26:00 We know the offense is going to go cold. Is it going to go cold in October? I don't know. We'll see. Um, I just think ultimately this, the squad disappoints us. I think at their trade deadline, they're going to try and sell us that they, you know, they're bringing up Crawford and between him and camp, that's the batch. They'll make a move or two in the bullpen, but ultimately they just disappoint us. You know what I want to see out of this year? I want to see them solidify the five starting peters
Starting point is 00:26:25 we'll work stanchis swarming and not what moving forward and then rebuild the lineup sirmoving on the mouser yeah i i i i do you see he's too inconsistent for me and i think you can get to work
Starting point is 00:26:43 at this deadline or in the off season? I'm sorry? At this deadline or in the off season? If somebody's gonna give you something at the deadline so be it. If it falls into the off season so be it. You'd have to resign Ranger obviously in that case and you're trading. I have one Ranger. I get it. No I get it. I get it. All right, Tommy you ready for a player a from game I'm not gonna get it right, but I'll give it a shot. Well, we're gonna find out it was a first-round pick So let's see if you can pull it off. Where did Eagles wide receiver? Jeremy Macklin go to school
Starting point is 00:27:20 Jeremy Macklin went to Miami come on man! It's Mizzou! It is Mizzou! Fritz can play the from game, not too bad! Guess who his quarterback was? Wasn't it Chase Daniel? Yeah the guy who makes a lot of sense. Oh come on. The guy who makes a lot of sense. There will be no Chase Daniel love on this show. Alright, 215-592-9494 to chime in on the Phillies. You know, can you invest in this season and the day to day? Are you enjoying it or is there more of a wake me up when October comes? We'll see what happens. And the trade deadline. Are you going
Starting point is 00:27:55 all in on this team? I think a lot of people have gone back and forth on this. I know I have. As of three weeks ago, I was not going all in on this team. I'm finally there. I think they need to commit to this group and see if they can finally make this happen. 215592, 9494. It's Fritz, it's Seltzer, it's Go Birds, High Hopes Radio. Keep it here, we're coming right back. On July 18th, it's the Blue Crew to the rescue.
Starting point is 00:28:21 It's smurfing time. Hefty. Can you even lift, bro? Glouchy. I hate the radio. Quiet. There's something crew to the rescue. It's smurfing time. Hefty. Can you even lift, bro? Glouchy. I hate the radio. Quiet. I have something important to tell you. I have no idea what he just said.
Starting point is 00:28:30 And smurfette. That's how it's done, boys. Smurfs. Only in theaters July 18th. And the Champagne Supernova. Do you think Elliot knew that? Do you think Elliot knew this when they played it last night? I saw it, I think they encored with it. Do you think Elliot heard Champagne Supernova and last night. I know I thought I saw it was I think they are on cord with it
Starting point is 00:28:45 Do you think Elliot heard champions or super no one was like I know this song Yeah, well I could see him doing his little like drink up in the air. Oh, yeah Well, you know his little his little hand thing that he does. He was definitely doing that little move that he does Oh, you broke it down the Elliot hand. Yeah, it's a twirl. It's a good word for it. Yeah, the Elliot hand twirl. That's usually when he's about to, quote unquote, go in. That's true. When he's dancing. Yes.
Starting point is 00:29:13 The drink in the air, vibing along, that's kind of how I envision Elliot doing it. The lighter in the air, swaying back and forth. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Or the phone, probably the phone light now. I think it's now it's a phone light, is what people do, instead of the lighters. When I, Jack, when I grew up, it was the lighters in the air.
Starting point is 00:29:29 Now it's the, that's the phone light. Yeah, I'm sure. I'm sure. Well, and Elliot, I would say that he only knew two songs. Yeah, yeah. I think there's a, there's a chance that because he was going, he listened to A Little Oasis before he went, possibly. But I, you know. I'm not feeling very optimistic that he's gonna come back a
Starting point is 00:29:49 big Oasis guy. Oh see, no no no no no no no. I, he's gonna come back and say Oasis is the greatest band of all time, they're the only band that ever mattered. Like this is what Elliott does. He will go to this, now Oasis will be his favorite thing that ever happened until he goes to another concert and then that thing will become his favorite thing that ever happened. Well, I will say it's less embarrassing than him going to a Beyonce concert. And talking about, again, he's almost 40, but talking about Cowboy Carter in like a serious... Yeah, you can't do that seriously. I would go to Beyonce concerts. That would be fun. Sure, but breaking down Cowboy Carter and like the set list. Yeah, taking it seriously. Yeah, that's seriously, I would go to Beyonce concerts. That'd be fun, but yeah. Sure, but breaking down Cowboy Carter and the set list.
Starting point is 00:30:26 Yeah, taking it seriously. Yeah, yeah, that's a good point. That's a little too much for me. Yeah, well, we'll find out when Elliott comes back if he now knows any Oasis songs and where he stands. All right, 215592, 9494, Talking Phils. Phils on the station today at 405, Game 2 against the Reds, Fritz and I
Starting point is 00:30:44 will officially preview that with leading off earlier today. But get it now talking. Phil's the trade deadline coming up. Would you go all in with this team and how invested you are with this team? Let's go back to the phones and talk to our buddy, Drew Westchester. What up, Drew? What up, folks? How we doing?
Starting point is 00:30:58 What's up, Drew? Hey, Jack, I know, I know everyone's given similar, given you similar advice, but I would just emphasize, I know, you know, Delta was mentioning, I know everyone's given similar advice, but I would just emphasize, I know Selzer was mentioning Joe's ability to throw people off and beat the hammer. Don't underestimate how important it is to get in your zone. Maybe not with baseball because you're the pitcher but the other stuff like watch your clips to Utley single and off of Billy Wagner What watch Shane Victorino taking CC deep like do whatever you got to do to get in your zone? Have you ever seen the movie for the love of the game either of you? The guy I have okay, so it's a it's one of those that anything that's not baseball in the movie is incredibly
Starting point is 00:31:44 Boring and melodramatic, but the baseball stuff's great. The baseball stuff is actually really well done, but that's what they do with Costner and he has this thing where he's like, all right, lock in, and he blocks everything out and it all goes silent. It's just him and the batter. Jack, that's what you got to be. It's got to be you, the mitt, and nothing else.
Starting point is 00:32:02 And the catcher. Yeah, the mitt. Just locking on the catcher. The mitt, that's what I'm saying, the mitt. Yeah, that's all it matters. Yeah, I was gonna, before I won Beat the Hammer, the last thing I did was I watched the clip from the Queen's Gambit where Beth Harmon gets the call and all the friends are like, go beat them,
Starting point is 00:32:17 and then you just take that, you just take that into it. On the field, I think it's's interesting so on one hand they are having a better season than I expected them to so I credit them for that I did not think they were gonna win the division I now do but the downside is I just feel like they have so many more needs than I was initially anticipating and I'll ask you guys because I did not watch him you know in the minor can Otto Kemp play a competent second base because I'm not sure that there's a starting second baseman that's what drew Jack's been talking about that on high hopes you Jack has
Starting point is 00:32:59 brought that up a couple times as what he thinks is the most natural spot for Kemp to go to. Yeah, so I'm a little behind on Pod, so I apologize there. But yeah, man, I think Bryson's regression is one of the biggest things bothering me right now, because I love the guy, but he has been so has been he has been so bad and I would not trade Painter or Miller look I know they're on a different level but like some of these guys is lack of development You know has me more towards you know Go make a move because you know go give up some other prospects because when these guys come up are they going to be? Coached properly are they going to be coached properly? Are they going to be developed properly?
Starting point is 00:33:45 So I don't know that the the Bryson season is really bringing me down right now. Yeah Well, and it should I mean he was like last year we felt like we could excuse it away with the the elbow thing and he kept dreaming on what he did in in 23 where Heading to the last month He was hitting 300 and then he had a horrible September and and didn't really do much in the postseason besides the Grand Slam But you know, he is someone that you were banking on being one of your young cornerstone ish type of players and
Starting point is 00:34:21 Right now he's almost unplayable at least at the plate. We know what he can do defensively, but at the plate It's just it's just not getting the job done. It's such little impact and the annoying thing. He started swing early now He's not even doing the good Bryson Stott's thing. Yeah, I'm standing at bat yesterday swung first pitch. I think yeah He's done it a couple times. So I think you're seeing a guy that's one in his own head, you know, been there, brother. But I think, you know, he hasn't adjusted back when the league has adjusted to him. And I think if one of these, I think Stott actually, if they felt like they had to go this way
Starting point is 00:34:59 or wanted to go this way, I do think he has a decent amount of trade value just from what he does defensively. I could see one of the smaller market teams that really value defense taking a shot on Bryson's dot. But second base, all of a sudden, is now something that they could be looking to upgrade. And maybe Kemp can do it.
Starting point is 00:35:18 I've been more impressed with Otto the last week. Certainly don't love him in left field. He just doesn't have the range out there But maybe if he can just stand at second base make the turn on a double play and and get to the balls in front of them What he can bring offensively maybe could help this team Yeah, it just feels to me like there's one too many platoons Yeah, holes in this in the problem is they don't know none of the halves of the platoons have been super effective
Starting point is 00:35:47 is the issue. And look, it's admittedly Austin Hazian, but a guy's name jumped out to me maybe because I watched him hit two home runs yesterday. I'm curious what you guys think. Harrison Bader. Oh man, you're talking right to Jack. Here, Drew, Jack will talk about Bader in a sec. Drew, are you ready for a player of the from game? Yeah, let's see what we got here.
Starting point is 00:36:10 Let's go with another wide receiver. We were just talking about Elliott Shore Parks. Let's go with his guy. Where did Jordan Matthews go to college? Oh, there he went to Vanderbilt. BANG! We're on the board. Good job, Drew. Jack, Harrison Bader, I know that's what he allows for you. Yeah, well, I've won Harrison Bader for two years. And it's not that Harrison Bader's good, but he plays really good defense. At center field, they can pop a home run every once in a while, but also not hit 180 something.
Starting point is 00:36:36 I don't know. It's almost Adam Duvall-ish, James. Oh, buddy, talking. That's a name right there. I know absolutely no one listening. Former Philly, who was never a Philly, Adam Duvall. Well, it was three years in a row, where it's like, we could really use Adam Duvall. talking that's a name right there. I know absolutely no one listening. Former affiliate who was never an affiliate of Adam Duvall. Well it was three years in a row where it's like we could really use Adam Duvall, we could really use Adam Duvall, we could really use
Starting point is 00:36:50 Adam Duvall. And they would just never sign out. I think it's personal now. I think that affiliates are now making it personal. They don't want to trade, they don't want to sign Harrison Bader for like a million dollars because it would make me too happy. So I'm trying to think of like second basement names out there. The one that, now they're playing really well right now, but, and I hope they would cool off heading into the trade deadline
Starting point is 00:37:15 because the guy is on an expiring deal. But imagine if you could make a trade for Boba Shet. Oh buddy. I mean, they're playing too good. They're in first place. I know, I know. It's not gonna happen. I could really. I mean, they're playing too good. They're in first place. I know. Yeah, it's not going to happen.
Starting point is 00:37:26 I could really use a cool off heading into the trade deadline. Yeah, it would have to be a very quick, very steep cool off. Half Bichette plays second base. Half Bichette plays second base. Oh, man, buddy. You're going to twist my arm. Jonathan India, maybe. Sure.
Starting point is 00:37:38 Maybe Jonathan India. Is he in KC, right? After Kansas City, is he like KC? 42 and 47 on the year. OK. They're probably out of it The one that I think is is is interesting they would also need to fall out of it But Brandon low from here from the race. Yeah, I teen home run there in second place right now. They are
Starting point is 00:37:58 They are and he has one more year left on on the deal that he signed He signed one of those early deals. So I'm sure the Rays probably don't want to pay it. But yeah, it's really surprising, James. But second base has to be a talking point now heading into the deadline. 215-592-9494. We'll continue to take your calls with you till 3.
Starting point is 00:38:20 Then leading off after that till 3.30, we'll get you set for Phillies baseball at 4 0 5 talking Phil's is a little high hopes radio It's for it's itself. So we're coming right back Mom's dads. Are you the parent of a student athlete? Do you want to know how to get the most out of youth sports? If so, listen to the next pitch podcast to give you the tools to raise an aspiring athlete It's not simple, but we talked straight and give you the best insight there is when it comes to youth sports. We'll cover everything from nutrition and training to mental toughness and teamwork.
Starting point is 00:38:49 It's a podcast you can listen to together with your kids so everyone can benefit. Follow next pitch on the Odyssey app or wherever you listen to podcasts. It's Go Birds Radio, a high hopes edition. Jack Fritz, James Seltzer Fritz, we're in for Elliott Sherbarks who is gallivanting across Europe, going to Oasis concerts and just generally, you know, not doing his job. So good to know. I think that's my second least favorite Beatles song. What? Is that Oasis for the Beatles?
Starting point is 00:39:22 It is not the Beatles. It's just Helter Skelter. It's just Helter Skelter, yeah. Oh, Helter Skelter, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So that's your least favorite Beatles song? What is that always the Beatles it is not the Beatles Skeletor yeah, it's your least favorite Beatles my second least favorite. That's not twist and shout is my least favorite Wow, that's your least favorite Beatles song. Well, I can't stand twist and shout I don't like when Paul did the pop songs like I just you know, I understand you guys sell records or whatever, but I I Appreciate the Beatles too much to get sucked up by Twist and Shout. Okay.
Starting point is 00:39:46 That's my big take on Twist and Shout. Lennon sings Twist and Shout. I don't care. It feels like a McCartney song. Shaking a pan! Yeah, yeah, yeah. And it's also in Ferris Bueller's Day Off, which I think is one of the most overrated ones.
Starting point is 00:40:01 Well, it's one of the fun, like the cool recording songs where like the reason Lenin's voice was so like scratched up on it was they had been recording all day and it was like the last song they day and he did of the day and he's like just like the last of his voice is screeching it out and they kept it cuz they liked it so yeah that's good yeah yeah all right two one five five nine two ninety four ninety four Let's get some calls in here. Talking Philz. And obviously if you want to make an Eagles play, it's Go Birds Radio. But not much going on with the Birds right now. We're talking a little, a little Phillies action.
Starting point is 00:40:35 Phillies 405 today. Phillies Reds will get you set for that as the show goes on. Let's go back to phones and talk to Dave in Maryland. What up, Dave? What's up, gentlemen? How you doing? Dave, what's happening pal? I'm not out on the team. Obviously I'm a big baseball guy. So the ups and downs of the season are what makes baseball very intriguing. That's why Jack you're going to be fine on Wednesday. The ups and downs of this contest are going to take you to a victory over Joe on Wednesday. So we're rooting for you there.
Starting point is 00:41:05 Yeah, I feel pretty good, man. I feel pretty good. I just want to get out there, get it over with, and go home. That's the exact attitude we want there, Jack. Yes. I got you. The one thing that bothered me, I guess, you asked for a while now, is that we talk about Bryce, how he's not performing the way he used to be,
Starting point is 00:41:28 but he's still a great player. But we cannot keep throwing Alec Bone behind him in the lineup and expecting good things to happen. Alec's a great hitter, but he's not a four-hitter. That's the glaring. They haven't the glaring they just they haven't had one of it they have had one and that continues to be the Achilles heel when when the Phillies were kind of playing well earlier in May, Schwab was a good stripper and I feel like it just gives him a little bit of security blanket the Seymour Pistons and it lengthens lineup I realized Scott is the key to that, you know put somebody else up there in the in the front of the lineup, but I
Starting point is 00:42:09 Would like to see Schwerber behind Harper again Yeah, well, I think that that we don't know this but that feels to me that Harper doesn't want to bet too Because I agree with you. I want I want him I want Schwerber behind him as well and it makes it was working early in the season obviously because thought was doing a pretty good job in the in the leadoff spot. That's where that's where I want to trade for a If these guys are available great but like a Duran or bucks then because you can put one of those guys either in the leadoff spot or the second spot and and it does
Starting point is 00:42:40 lengthen the the top of the line to where you can feel more comfortable putting short behind Bryce because I Agree with you Dave like when I saw bone back in the cleanup spot, I was like, oh no Oh, not again because of all the things where I do the doomer like we know how this ends I feel pretty confident. I know how the Alec bone hitting cleanup thing ends and I I just don't want to see that again so either they can acquire a real cleanup hitter and he can bat forth or I just don't want to see that again. So either they can acquire a real cleanup hitter
Starting point is 00:43:03 and he can bat forth and keep Schwerberg second, or you get another dynamic type at the top of the lineup that pushes everyone down. But that is a huge, huge problem for this team, is having Boehm hitting cleanup yet again. Yeah, when Boehm was playing well, when he obviously started bad, when he was up in the lineup well, like when he obviously started bad when he meant what he was up in the land They pushed him back in the lineup
Starting point is 00:43:28 Just took a little pressure off of them and like I said, he can hit he's just not a four hitter He's not I think he's more of a six through six through six seven hitter Yeah and you know if you could put him there then then you're talking about a lengthy lineup and But that's that's the key yet like in unless they can figure out something to the effect of putting somebody up there in front to allow Schwabr to go behind that that's the that's the biggest need in my opinion is getting the bat at this point obviously you need bullpen help but yeah I think I think Jack and I are
Starting point is 00:43:57 both with you Dave I think look they need both in reality but this the must have can't do without thing is a bat like it just is get to Jack's point He's made many times like they have Internal options like they're all their starters are not gonna pitch in the playoffs They can mix and match and try and find something that works At least there's like hope there with the bats if they don't get it a legitimate bat near at least someone who can You know give this lineup something from the right-handed side. I think they're in a lot of trouble All right, you ready to give this lineup something from the right-handed side. I think they're in a lot of trouble.
Starting point is 00:44:25 All right, you ready to play the From Game, Dave? Let's, let's try it. All right, a very famous first round pick, not a good one, but a famous one. Where did the fireman Danny Watkins go to college? Oh, geez. No idea. Baylor University. I know it is incorrect.
Starting point is 00:44:41 Baylor is, Fritzie. Baylor University. Fritzie, you're pretty good at the from game. Dude, I was going, how this came about is I was walking around my house this morning in a very normal state of mind, I guess, and just thinking, could I go 1-53 of knowing where everyone on the Eagles, I would say last year, where they all went to college. I think I could do every starter as it gets a little I probably used to be able to do the hole 53 but I think it's just something about being a guy is if you just name a guy.
Starting point is 00:45:14 It's what you do. I've been doing it with my buddies since high school like 25 years of playing the from game. Now how deep could you go on Phillies? Not at all. Come on man where'd Stock go to college? That one I know, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on. I should know this one. Oh man. Come on man! Yes, I don't know. Where'd he go? UNLV. Oh yeah of course. Where is Cassie Onnes committed to? Is it Miami? Yeah yeah. Yeah okay, okay. Alright, alright. Yeah!
Starting point is 00:45:45 Alright, alright. 2155929494. Let's go to one of your guys. And he was supposed to partake in the Joe vs. Jack thing on Wednesday, but was deemed not an acceptable umpire for such an important, meaningful event. Let's go to your guy. Yo Herb, what up? Herb!
Starting point is 00:46:10 Herb! Huh? Herb! Okay. Hey, honestly, can I be honest with you? That might have been the best Herb call that he's ever had in his entire life. You don't get or appreciate Herb.
Starting point is 00:46:21 You know who I get and appreciate? My guy Jason in sweets, bro. What up, Jack? Yep. James and Jack. You know, today's fact, we're going to take a ride up 295 and we're going to stop in Palsboro. I laid the ground. This is special for Jack. The first publicly accessible professional wrestling school is the world famous Monster Factory located in Psboro. Oh. 40 of the 41 WrestleMania's have featured a graduate from that school.
Starting point is 00:46:49 Wow. Including two that you guys will definitely know, Lane Johnson and Jason Kelsey. What? Wow, I didn't know there was a school for Russell. Wow. I bet you Jason Derazio knew that. Oh man, Derazio's like, you idiots, of course.
Starting point is 00:47:03 Derazio's like, you morons. Yeah. Jason and Lane, before they made their appearance at the Philly show, uh, turning to the Monster Factory. That's cool. That's cool. Um, but anyway, let's talk Phil's, right? So we always talk about, um, getting up,
Starting point is 00:47:18 uh, giving up, sorry, uh, our top prospects. Are you able, and we don't want to touch. Um, but like no one really talks about what's actually accessible to the Phillies right. Buxton doesn't want to leave Minnesota. He's got a no trade clause. You know that we've got other like Louise Robear in Chicago nobody wants a guy hitting 192. He's too big of a risk for this. Yeah, he just is not, he hasn't hit since last trade deadline, like he's, and he's been hurt. We all talk about going all in on filling all these holes
Starting point is 00:47:52 within the Phillies lineup, but there's no real options that are available. You've got too many teams that are getting to the playoffs. We've got too many players that don't fit what we need. I mean, there's plenty of relievers out there, but if we're gonna get a realistic bat, I don't see any options out there that are worth going all in on.
Starting point is 00:48:11 Hold on, you're not excited about a possible Joe Adell trade with the Angels? Hey, hey, Joe Adell is in fuego right now. He is, he is. You're not excited about a 506 OPS Adolas Garcia or whatever he's at. Oh, I know You know, you know what he is. He's a World Series MVP folks. Okay, could he is he the next of Rosarania? I mean he I will say he is the kind of like I I'm not giving a ton
Starting point is 00:48:37 No, but but it could I see a Dolis Garcia get traded and hit you know 15 homers for you know who he gets traded to and go on a run of course I could it's just why not bring up the kids why not bring up Crawford I'm with you I'm like Jason I'm fine at this point like if they want to bring up Crawford that's fine but I I don't think that I honestly I think it's crazy for Crawford to place too much pressure on him and expect him to come up But I just think as a fan base We should not be expecting a 21 year old kid who is still showing that he can't lift the ball and drive the ball Super well to come up and save the offense
Starting point is 00:49:15 like I just like I think Justin Crawford in all honesty like what and I don't expect it to continue because we know him as A player but what Brandon Marsh has done for the last month, like, Justin Crawford's not going to do that. Like, that's better than what you'll get from Crawford without a doubt, you know? I'm just saying. I just don't think what we have is making anybody happy. Crawford can't do any worse than what we've got in left field or center field. We got to... There is no pressure. If there's no expectation of him doing more than what we currently have, then there's no pressure whatsoever.
Starting point is 00:49:53 Yeah, I hear you. And I think that's fine to say. It's hard for the fan base to not put pressure on a kid, especially how tough the outfield has been. And I just keep watching him and he hit a double the other day where it was just a pop-up that the outfielder missed. And it feels like there's been so many of that where you watch him, you keep waiting for like, oh, wow, he's like, great.
Starting point is 00:50:18 But it's a lot of balls that I just keep watching and think in the major leagues, that's going to be an out. that I just keep watching and think in the major leagues that's gonna be an out and maybe like maybe they're keeping him down for that fact to to Keep up the idea that he is a real 330 type hitter Like that's what I find so interesting by the Justin Crawford thing is that he's sitting 340 something down in in Lehigh Valley But there's not like the the buzz about him that you that usually comes along with a former first round pick and a top 100-ish prospect.
Starting point is 00:50:51 There just hasn't been that, I think, because people watch them and they're like, I don't see it. All right, Jason, you ready to play the from game? This is gonna be horrible, but go for it. Okay, we're gonna give you a Super Bowl champion, an Eagles Super Bowl champion. Where did Michael Kendricks go to college?
Starting point is 00:51:07 I don't know. Let's just say Rowan University, which is the home of the first U.S. show for practice. I like what you did there. It was a good word. Great, great, great. California, University of California. You fritz. One of the more impressive skills you've displayed. I'm very impressed with you right now. He got torched by Theo Riddick all day on Thanksgiving 2015. Oh my god, did he ever, dude. I hosted a show after that game and it was one of the just more embarrassing conversations. Alright, 215-592-9494, one hour down, one to go. Then Fritz and I will get you set for Phillies Reds 4-0 405 on WIP. Get on the line now. It's Go Birds Radio.
Starting point is 00:51:46 And let me tell you, the humidity is getting thick out there. You got the AC running on blast, the fans on, and the shades close. But the heat, it still seems to seep into your home until, that is, you replace your old drafty windows with energy efficient top quality ones from Window Nation. And if this sounds like Window Nation has an amazing offer for you like you know window nation has an amazing offer for you guess what
Starting point is 00:52:07 they have an amazing offer for you right now you can get up to 50% off on all window styles yes 50% off plus this is crazy zero interest for five whole years zero it is an unbelievable deal you heard that right window nation you won't pay any interest until 2030 and did did we mention, installation only takes a day? Hey, so what did you want to talk about? Well, I want to tell you about Wagovie. Wagovie?
Starting point is 00:53:05 Yeah, Wagovie. What about it? On second thought, I might not be the right person to tell you. Oh, you're not? No, just ask your doctor. About Wagovie? Yeah, ask for it by name. Okay, so why did you bring me to this circus?
Starting point is 00:53:20 Oh, I'm really into lion tamers. You know, with the chair and everything. Ask your doctor for Wagovie by name visit what go be dot CA for savings exclusions may apply Yeah, I I can't I can't get down with the hating on twists and shout I mean, it's an awesome song and it has the whole Ferris Bueller thing, which you know is iconic So I'm gonna say it's bad take Brits That's fine. It's an instant skip. Let's flip it around what is your favorite Beatles song if you can choose? I guess like while my guitar gently weeps. It's a strong choice you can't go too far wrong. She came in the bathroom window.
Starting point is 00:54:00 Really? That's like literally one of my two or three favorite Beatles songs. No one ever mentioned she came into the bathroom. I love she She Came Into The Bathroom. What a great song. No, I know. I'm a medleysman. The Abbey Road medley, I think, just put all those together and I can't... Wow. Did I text you my take on Abbey Road after listening through it again? I don't think so. Because once a year I go through a nice Beatles phase. Which is it's always a nice cathartic time where you just remember. Hey, the Beatles are great But I remember listening I want to just listen to the albums last year like because I would just put it on shuffle and sure I just want to like appreciate an album and I kept like Abbey Road is
Starting point is 00:54:39 Unbelievable. It's unbelievable. Unbelievable. Yeah, but I kept thinking Sure would have like a full song rather than a minute and a half of golden slumbers. Well, that's the medley. I know they shortened them all and put it together. They just take all the good parts. So my big take on Happy Roads, they were actually lazy on it. They needed to fully commit and go all in rather than just congratulations, you can
Starting point is 00:55:01 write a hook. Hell of a take on The Beatles' last album. I think that is really well done by you. Thank you. Yeah. At our wedding, we had the Beatles as our entrance music. Like every, you know, when we had... So when Emily came out, she came out to something.
Starting point is 00:55:14 We had like our friends come out to a little help from my friends. Parents come out to Blackbird. You know, it was cool. That's not bad. Not bad, right? Wish I would have thought of that. Wish I would have thought of that. Wish I would have thought of that. All right.
Starting point is 00:55:26 21559294. Back to the phones. In one minute, talking to Phils. We're playing the From game. Give you a chance to win a Rita's gift card. But two things I want to touch base on with Fritz. One Philly's related, one not. We'll start with the not just to get it out there.
Starting point is 00:55:40 We mentioned the top of the show, but just for those wondering, because I know that something dumb that people seem to care a lot about is the you versus Joe thing. Where you at? Just an official statement. I know you said earlier you were out, you know, throwing some pitches at the spot where it all happened. How you feeling?
Starting point is 00:55:59 Official statement as of Saturday, July 5th on Jack Fritz. By the way, for those who don't know, Wednesday at noon at Plymouth White Marsh High School, the baseball field there is where Jack and Joe will be. Going at it in competition number two of the overall Jack Fritz Joe competition. How you feeling? Well, it was a long week. It was a long week.
Starting point is 00:56:19 So I actually really, I didn't listen to the station at all this week because I do. But can I just, real quick, let me just jump in and let everyone know, like, of all the people that I work with, like, Jack might listen to the station the most. Jack is always listening to the station. So for you to like tune out, that really says something. Yeah, I knew what it was.
Starting point is 00:56:37 I knew it was going to be. I didn't really need to hear it from coworkers. So but I've heard it a lot around town. Seems like no one missed it. And I don't know what happened. I had a bad day on the golf course. I psyched myself out. So I think I'm over the golf.
Starting point is 00:56:56 I'm ready to move on to baseball. Arm feels pretty good. I would say I was probably, if I had to guess, like 78 to 82 today. And as long as I throw strikes, I don't think there's any way he's gonna hit me. So I would be very surprised if I walked him four times Given my given how I threw today. I'd be just shocked But I'm trying to not get too ahead of myself
Starting point is 00:57:20 I look forward to Wednesday and I really hope it's not too hot but 95 degrees probably In on turf in the hottest part of the day sounds like a disaster Buddy, but I tell you what man. I I Love pitching. I love pitching. I will always love pitching. I miss it But for a 31 year old father of two, I certainly felt like I had some pretty good stuff today. I love it. All right. That's what you want to hear everyone check it out. And yeah, this is big. And it is it seems like so simple. But I really do think it just comes down to you throwing strikes. I think you win if you throw strikes.
Starting point is 00:57:57 I'm well aware. Everyone's told me the exact same thing. Yeah, it's true. You know, sometimes it's it's it's said for a reason because it's just what it is and believe me I'm going to try to throw strikes. So if you're there Now did he say that he thought he would struggle with like 70 miles an hour? Yes, that's what he said Now, I don't know again with Joe You know, you don't know what is real and what's not when he says these things But yes, he said well cuz he said if he's throwing 80 I'm cooked and I was like I don't think he's actually gonna hit 80
Starting point is 00:58:30 I think Jack's more likely to be in the 70s somewhere and he's like if you throw 70 I'm in trouble So that's what he said. Yeah, I'm definitely in the I'm definitely 75 ish 76 range. Maybe I'm at least 78 I would not be surprised if I was in the gun out there I think so I think Scott and KOP is bringing a gun of course who else would bring a gun shout out to Scott and KOP that makes sense alright so
Starting point is 00:58:54 everyone check that out at noon on Wednesday one other thing quickly we've mentioned a couple names give us another name of two because Byron Buxton has been brought up Adolas Garcia has been brought up he brought up a couple second base names. Any other names you just want to throw out there as people who over the next three weeks before the deadline Phyllis Vans can kind of keep an eye on as potential targets?
Starting point is 00:59:15 Well, the one that seems like it's certainly out there is the Bednar, Dennis Santana, the idea of those two. And I really like the idea of Bednar a lot You know and and Bednar was trending towards being cooked about a year got sent down, right? Yeah, he got sent down earlier this year actually and and he's he's come back with it with a vengeance He comes out to renegade by by sticks. Oh Really which all right, I can do which in the ninth inning I think would play He just he has the look of a guy that would be able to handle the ninth inning, I think, would play. He has the look of a guy that would
Starting point is 00:59:46 be able to handle the ninth inning here, kind of a gruff. So the stuff is certainly trending back up. Dennis Santana, I really like what he does. For a guy who is having a career year at 32, it gives me Brandon Woodruff, Heath Hembree. They've gone out and acquired the Ian Kennedys or whatever. That's more of where my back gets up, worried about it, one of these relievers.
Starting point is 01:00:16 But Andrew Filippone last week mentioned Bednar and Dennis Santana. It seems like it would be Crawford for those guys. Crawford is the one guy, and then I'm sure they would add other pieces to it. But at least from the standpoint of making this bullpen better, I think adding Bednar back there, giving someone along with Orion Kirkering and letting Romano and Strom and even Banks, but letting those guys kind of not have back end availability and let them settle into being more middle-lidding type could really help. And then Santana is a wild card. and even banks, but letting those guys kind of not have back end availability and let them settle into being more
Starting point is 01:00:47 middle-lidding type could really help. And then Santana is a wild card, but again, having a great year. So I would, those two, I think, and it was reported again today by one of the Pirates beat reporters, the Phillies have touched base on a Bednar and Santana trade. So I think that certainly feels like one that makes a lot of sense
Starting point is 01:01:05 all right two one five five nine two ninety four ninety four to chime in on the fills and again to win a read as gift card will give you the from game eagles a player former current player since 2000 where they went to college to go back to phones and start at our two where we do every single week this time let's go to Vancouver and talk to our buddy Tom you Tom hello gentlemen Tom it's it's been a while pal, I miss you. It's been a long while and I miss you too. Very much so. So I was absolutely delighted to hear that you were going to be on the show. So I'm very very happy about that.
Starting point is 01:01:38 I've changed jobs and you know the Odyssey app for Canadians isn't the friendliest way to be able to listen. And that's not putting down the Odyssey app to American listeners. It's just to do with the regulations. Thank you for the important clarification. Thank you for cleaning that up. Well, yeah, it's a fantastic app when it works for Canadians. Exactly right. I'm really, really glad to be able to speak with you though, and I'm gonna do my best to actually be able to
Starting point is 01:02:07 To ask you, you know baseball questions that aren't completely moronic So we'll see how I go with that. I believe you Tom. I believe you need to Thank you very much. Jack. I believe in you against the camera. I just want to be very clear on that I think that this is more anticipated than any Phillies game this week, certainly. It certainly feels that way, Tom. It certainly feels that way, which I, from a radio perspective, I love.
Starting point is 01:02:34 From a personal perspective, I'm not sure how I feel about it. Well, I think that you might want to go back. I know that you're getting unsolicited advice from everybody. And that's going to continue because that's just how we are, because we care. We're like parents listening, watching their kid, thinking about their kid, going out there to fight, to fight for the family. And it's important to us to see you win.
Starting point is 01:03:02 It certainly seems like there's a lot of people rooting for me. Yes, and a lot of people seem to care a lot more than I would have expected. Well, so I think, Jack, you should go back and listen to your run, because that was just so epic. This peak athletic moment, the achievement. It was not my peak athletic moment. It was a surprise, though, I will say that.
Starting point is 01:03:24 I was surprised that it happened. No, that's a good one. I did have Ike in my ear, which when Ike starts yelling at you, you feel like you've got to really dig deep. You've got to give it. That made for some of the best radio at WIP over the past few years. That was just phenomenal. Yeah, it was fun. It was awesome. Okay, so with the Phillies, I heard you mention sacrificing Crawford. And I'm just wondering,
Starting point is 01:03:53 do you not think that we could get away with keeping Crawford and Painter and just being able to trade people like Abel, Tate, or Escobar? Or do you think it's gonna be a good one? Well, Tate and Escobar are more valuable than Crawford. Yeah, I would put them both over Crawford. You would, huh?
Starting point is 01:04:09 Yeah. Okay, all right. Yeah, so I think they could. Of the guys, I would be surprised if they traded it. I don't think Painter's getting moved. I don't think Painter's getting moved. And I don't think Miller's getting moved. I watched the start the other night.
Starting point is 01:04:24 He's close, he's getting closer. He watched the start the other night. It's, he's close. He's getting closer. He's not a finished product, but you see it. You see it. So of the untouchables, like I think Aiden could get moved if it's like a super difference making player, but I don't know if that guy's available. And then Tyeet, I could see get moved. Again, it's almost the same thing
Starting point is 01:04:45 where it's like if the difference making player only they want to move Tite. And Arun, I would put in the same class. When it comes to Crawford and Abel, I just feel like that those are the guys that they're gonna try to move this deadline for maybe a couple of bullpen pieces, maybe a bat. But the way that they've pumped Crawford,
Starting point is 01:05:05 they talk a lot about how they're enthralled with him. When teams start putting that stuff out there, it makes me feel like that's a possible trade candidate because they want it out there. And the fact that he's, now could he not be coming up because Marsh started playing better and the Kepler situation happened, they want to give him some run?
Starting point is 01:05:25 Sure, but there could also be the side of the Crawford calling up situation, which is let's not bring them up and get them exposed to big league pitching. And maybe that freaks a team out when it comes to trading for them. OK, all right, well, thanks for that, Jack. Very thorough, no follow up questions there. Tom, you got one more question?
Starting point is 01:05:44 Yeah, I got a quick Eagles one for you. Well, and that's, well, it's more of a statement I guess. I'm on team and Nolan Smith. I've heard the, you know, the rumors out there saying like trade him for TJ Watt, but I'm just not into that. I'm happy with Nolan Smith. I think that's fair. I'm more interested in it than I thought I'd be, but I see both sides of it. I'm not strong in it. Tom, you ready for a from game? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:06:11 I'm no Drew from Westia. Come on, Tom. This is disappointing. Jagger's got everyone. We're going to go with a current Eagle. Our first current Eagle, obviously a Super Bowl champ as well. Where did Dallas Goddard go to college? Dallas Goddard, it was near, I thought it was near Wentz's place, right?
Starting point is 01:06:33 Oh man. No, it's South Dakota, wasn't it? South Dakota State! South Dakota State! Wentz was North Dakota, right? South Dakota State, time. All right, close enough, close enough. Is it, we're gonna put a bit, all right,
Starting point is 01:06:44 we're gonna give him that one, you're so kind, Jack. All right, Close enough. Close enough. Is it? We're going to put him in? All right. We're going to give him that one. You're so kind, Jack. All right. Let's just speed up close enough. Let's see if he's close enough to being ready this time. Let's go to your guy, Herb. You there, Herb? What's up, dude?
Starting point is 01:06:54 Hi. There he is. There he is. What's up, big dog? I got important people calling me. Oh, sure. Who? Who?
Starting point is 01:07:04 People, you know, Burkett. Oh, those people. Burkett? Dad people, you know Call me, you know, okay cause you Rex Burkhead for the running back, you know, that's Burkhead So anyway, I got it. Got it. Got it. Got it. The draft is coming up all you Guys, you know, I'm Jack's language is the draft next week is the draft Yeah, boy guys, remember, next week is the draft, next week is the draft, we're gonna see what the Phillies do in the first three or four rounds, okay? And if there's anybody out there that looks pretty good, okay? You want them to take him? They might, they might move Miller, they might move Crawford, they might move, you know, a couple of guys, you know what I mean?
Starting point is 01:07:45 so it all depends on who they take at 26 52 and 78 see you think if they get a guy they want they can then they'll trade Miller because they got a different short sappers Is that what you're saying? Well, yeah, if there's somebody what's an area where they didn't want would be my Really what I want is I want to see them take a catcher, OK? Yeah, you want them to take a catcher if the kid from Haddon Heights, OK, is Johnny Morisano physical attributes, okay? And actually got a better arm than Johnny Marzano had. But, okay, you know how they are with these pitchers, they're always taking pitchers.
Starting point is 01:08:38 You know, they might take an outfielder, do you know what I mean? Or an infielder. Yeah, they might take an outfielder. Outfiel I mean? Am I taking out for an infielder? Or a pitcher or a catcher Did you watch the college world series? Did you watch the super regionals? I you I did not her I did not So I saw I saw a guy take Davis that's the only cause
Starting point is 01:09:05 I know about the my guy Guy you're the one Ben Davis did a good job with that kid. He sure did Spent the money sent him to all the different Country the size of perfect Herb I got an important question for you. This is important. Can you get you got any advice for Jack for pitching to? I mean, you're someone who stood behind so many pitches coming in as an umpire. Give Jack a little advice for his big. How hard were you throwing today? Jack? Again, I think it was between 78 and 82 So between 78 and 80. Okay. Yeah, that's what I figured. Yeah
Starting point is 01:09:49 Just all you got to do dude is I mean just put it over the plate Don't don't try to be fancy or anything, you know, you got a captured it's gonna call the pitches or what? What is it? Well, I'm pretty much just going to throw fastballs until he gives me a reason. Yeah, exactly. I know you have a catcher or what? Yeah, we got a catcher. Yeah. We're all, we're all locked in. So you got to catch you. So do you think I should, do you think I should show up the umpire if he makes a bad call? Wow. Herb did like that one bit. You ain't going to,
Starting point is 01:10:22 you ain't going to embarrass me. That's never, you didn't get the job. Herb. Herb, you that one bit. You ain't gonna embarrass me. That's for sure. Well, you didn't get the job, Herb. Camera-rotted. Herb, you were deemed not an important enough umpire to umpire this. That was true, camera's gone on. Don't even know how good of an umpire I am, OK? OK.
Starting point is 01:10:40 The major league people do know how good I am. Is this breaking news I'm just as good as Alan Porter and the rest of the ones that are out there Calling balls and strings. I believe it her her are you good at the from game now? Are you good at knowing where people went to college? Kind of that first one I heard you that that was on Missouri, right? Yeah back it was Missouri. Yeah Here's this I'll give you another receiver. I heard was a little older you can get this early 2000s I'm gonna give you another receiver. Where did the man who thanked his hands go Freddie Mitchell? Freddie Mitchell went to
Starting point is 01:11:22 This is easy for me because he played He played baseball and then he decided to be a football player. He went to You see One of the odds I get that when he said this is easy for me I thought there was like a one in ten chance who's actually getting it right really? Yeah, how about it her yeah stakes the stakes were raised when he said this is easy He said this is easy. If he had not said this is easy, I would have thought he was gonna get it I thought there was no chance when he said this is easy. Great job Herb. Herb in the running.
Starting point is 01:11:57 UCLA? From Freddie Mitchell over Reggie Wayne, right? Yeah, and over, I think Steve Smith was after him, Chad Johnson, Chad Oto-Sinko Steve Smith was after him Chad Johnson Chad Oto-Sinko whatever was after him there were a few of those guys that draft where it was like oh could add that guy could add that guy could add that guy. And he was short on 4th and 27th. Oh yeah definitely was short on 4th and 27th. I don't think there's any question about that. Alright 2 on 5, 5, 9, 2, 94, 94. We got 30 minutes to go we're getting you set after that for Phillies baseball we're leading off Phillies baseball at 4 0 5 here. Phillies red. So keep it here for that. We're going to keep talking. Phil's leading up to that. It's Fritz. It's seltzer. It's go birds. High hopes radio.

Follow the baseballs and boring podcast in the free odyssey app or wherever you get your podcast There it is Justin Derazia well done Show sound jam show sounded great nothing to do with us, but such a jam
Starting point is 01:13:21 I wish it was three. I'm with that songs three and a half minutes long. It's on the pantheon of Beatles I'm with you. I'm with you again It's a good take but also the medley is perfect. So it's like I can't agree but write the full song Yeah, I get it. I feel like Elliot when I say that I know I know I don't I don't love you saying it But I never want to go full. Oh, yeah It's really the key. It's the you can kind of like nibble at like a quarter Elliott, but you don't want to go full Elliott. No. No, it's a dangerous place to be. All right, 215-592-9494, a dangerous place to be. Dave
Starting point is 01:13:57 Dombrovsky right now, Jack. Sure. You know, seriously, when you look at what Dave's done here, and you know, we've talked a lot about on the shows and on the podcast and stuff, but you and I know you and I are big proponents of the fact that we think he's done a lot behind the scenes that doesn't get enough credit with kind of building this organization up and the drafting and developing is better because Dave Dombrowski made a point to make it better and hired the right people and has put in the right systems to be a functional, successful franchise, what a winning organization
Starting point is 01:14:24 should look like. But on the field, the actual player moves, outside of the big contracts that the Shwerver ones were, the Castellanos one not as much, Trey better this year, but the real thing that Dave Dombrowski has had each season, a chance to add to a group and round the margins and make the moves or make a big trade, do the Dave Dombrowski thing and get this team over the top. He's been a disaster. You know, he has had what three straight disappointing trade deadlines when the team really needed more and those players have, you know, not come through in big moments for this team.
Starting point is 01:15:01 Is this the year Jack? We've talked a lot about what they should do at the deadline. Do you think Dave will do what we're talking about? And back to the phones in a minute, but are you optimistic that Dave is going to really kind of commit to this group? Kind of feels like you're asking for a gut check. Yeah, it's exactly what I'm asking for. Yeah. So if you ask me, ask me my gut, my gut is no. My gut is closer to the Estevez and Hayes types. Again, I don't know, it kind of does depend on who's actually out there. Like if Buxton's never out there,
Starting point is 01:15:36 then what do you want him to do? If Duran's never out there, then what do you want him to do? So then he just has to be smarter in his bets. And the one thing I will say about Dumbrovski is, like he, they put together a really, really strong trade package for Crochet last year. The White Sox just said no. Like I believe that Aiden was on the table in the Crochet package last year. So like, he's tried and teams have said no. And I think they tried to the crochet match last year. So he's tried, and teams have said no.
Starting point is 01:16:05 And I think they tried to get Lane Thomas last year, and the Nationals wouldn't deal with an NLE's team. So I think sometimes he has gotten unlucky and has had to pivot. But also there is overwhelming evidence of him not pushing all the chips in. And the one thing that I don't think is talked about with Dymbrowsky is how much is this also Middleton in his ear?
Starting point is 01:16:25 Like, and this is not to rip Middleton at all. It's just Middleton is clearly, I think, does not want to go through what they went through from 2012. Totally. He's talked about it. He's talked about it. So he's very hesitant, I believe, to trade some of those top prospects.
Starting point is 01:16:41 When Dabrowski was in Boston, his only MO from the owners was win a World Series. Do whatever it takes to win a World Series. That's where you trade the Michael Koepke and Yoen Mankata for Chris Sale. I think the biggest thing Dave Dombrowski had to do when John Middleton hired him was get a competitive team back on the field and turn the Phillies into a big boy organization. And from those standpoints, he has done that. I think they have ushered into a big boy time for the organization. The question is, is this deadline the time that we get the riverboat gambler Dave Dabrowski? Because I tell you what, James, I'm already annoyed at the idea of
Starting point is 01:17:26 all these national beer reports saying listen you know and Dave has a shot he's gonna go for it. I know it's like Buster don't say it I don't need to hear you say it Ken Rezendahl don't need to hear you say it don't say it don't say you know what say it after he goes all in don't say it before I'm sorry. Well the one name I know we've kind of been throwing around names
Starting point is 01:17:41 so I have I have one that I think is really interesting and So the first one's a joke just Previses if people don't freak out just saying Monia I could have the second most home run. I know you would I know It's unbelievable Why not mix still lives on but but the one name from a Rockies perspective is, and he has been horrible this year. Brandon Doyle? I would still take a shot on Brandon Doyle. Yeah, he's been very, very bad.
Starting point is 01:18:12 It's a little Luis Robert-ish where it's like, you're taking a pretty big risk, but he's also, I mean, Brandon Doyle's on the worst team in baseball. I just looked at their run differential for the first time in a while. It's minus 224. Wow, that's real bad. So I don't know what it would, I'm sure that it's trade value. That's really bad halfway through
Starting point is 01:18:30 the season. Wow. I'm sure, I'm sure his trade value is down, but what if a two-time gold Glover in center field, it would let Marsh play less field. Under control for a couple more years, I believe. Under control for a couple of years and you're taking a shot on the bounce back and you're taking a shot on a guy who will be better than than Johan Rohan and is a right-handed bat, you know Maybe it's been a great one right now, but at least gives you that that you know, cuz that look you they need a bat Obviously just basic but if you have a choice a right-handed bat would be nice You know, I don't know how he would work and I know our own Alex call put this out
Starting point is 01:19:03 But the the augenio Suarez idea going for a guy on a contract here that would give you cheap power I mean yeah he's got power that's for sure he certainly has power from the right side would that mean bone plays first base and you put Harper in the outfield would they trade bone in the deal to get a you hit you Suarez would they put Schwab and left and DH Suarez you know Su, Suarez, that's possible. Well, I think he's, from what I remember, he's a better defensive third baseman than Bohm, but I hear you.
Starting point is 01:19:31 But at least getting that bat as a right-handed option, like that's a right-handed bat if you want to put behind Bryce or someone like that. So then you get him here and you make it all work. But Eugenio Suarez is certainly, if they could make it work roster-wise, would be someone that would certainly help this team. All right, 215-592-9494. Let's go back to the phones and talk to Alex in Pittsburgh. What up, Alex? Hey, what's going on, James?
Starting point is 01:19:57 How you doing, pal? Good to hear from you. Oh, not too bad. Good to talk to the famous Jack Fritz. You guys were talking on the podcast this week about the very few, this very small demographic that listens to you guys but not WIP and that's me. No way! Wow, well welcome. Hold on, actually it's fine. For those WIP listeners out there, a little more context, we were talking on High Hopes
Starting point is 01:20:23 this week and Jack and I kind of just joked around like if if anyone doesn't really know about the Joe versus Jack thing, someone didn't know Alex. So you're just trying to like figure it out from the pods? Yeah, a little bit. Yeah, piecing together what Elliot's saying, you know. That's awesome. Yeah. Well, it's been a tough week, Alex. It's been a tough week. Yeah, I can't imagine. It's been great. Also, you know, I just hear from the GoBirds side all the crap they give you, Jack. So I feel like you're always on the bottom row. Well, listen, a lot of questions about my mental toughness this week. And I will say, I think I've mentally
Starting point is 01:21:00 done a pretty good job holding it all together. Could have snapped, could have snapped, but there's been no snaps. And I will also give you credit, like you owned it. You didn't come in and try. Even Spike was trying to make excuses for you, and you were like, no, no, no, no. That was the right call there. You know, like, I appreciate it. I thought that was the right way to go about it,
Starting point is 01:21:19 not come in and be like, well, it was because of this, or oh, if I dropped here, Joe just did this, and so on. You came in, you were like, I blew it. I st know, because of this or if I dropped here, Joe just did this. And like you came in, you were like, I blew it. I stunk and I, I appreciated that. Jack. I thought that was the right way to handle it. Hey, thank you, pal. Thank you.
Starting point is 01:21:32 I will say as of week two, I think they added Jack to the accountability, you know, text read. And so, yeah, that's right. Yeah. He took, he took Devin White's place. Is there, is that a bit on your podcast? No, it's not really just a bit. It's just, it is hilarious that I just, that Devin White started to call Billy Dexter and then just had zero
Starting point is 01:21:49 accountability. It was very funny. So. Oh, my bad. Yeah. Yeah. I also, I can't talk about baseball much, so I don't know if I'm going to give you guys much. I will say I have a Kevin Stocker signed Billy's ball from when I was like three. I don't really know much about Kevin Stocker. Well, he's the Phillies radio announcer now, or one of the two. Colorguys. Maybe he'll be worth some. Dude, I think Stock, if you don't listen to games a lot, you should, because baseball on the radio is magical.
Starting point is 01:22:14 But I think Stocker is phenomenal. I think he's really grown into the role, and I always learn stuff when I'm listening to Stocker. I'm with you. I think he does a great job. Can I just ask a random question that I don Stockground with you. I think he does a great job. Can I just ask a random question that I don't know if you guys would have any information about it? Sure.
Starting point is 01:22:29 All the people here say that the Pirates are never going to pay Skeens. Would you think the Phillies would ever pay Skeens? Oh, sure. Yeah. I think, I think any of the big teams that had a chance to pay Skeens would pay him. Do you think they'll, do you think he would want to come to Philly? I think Skeens would want to go anywhere that's not Pirates, you know? I mean, no offense to any Pittsburgh fans.
Starting point is 01:22:51 I just, yeah, I mean, I think Skeens would love to get paid and I think Skeens would love to have a chance to win, you know? Yeah, okay. That's all I got for you guys. Alex, you want a from game, my friend? Yeah, I'm pretty dumb, though, so... All right, well, we're gonna go with another current one. Don't beat yourself. Yeah We'll go with a current one. This isn't that long ago. This guy didn't get drafted that long ago Where did Cam Jergens go to college?
Starting point is 01:23:15 Nebraska There we go good work Alex good work, all right Jack since we've been talking good. Yeah, I'm saying like There's no more perfect replacement to Zach Wheeler than the idea of Paul Skeens. Oh my god, I know, right? Just move on to that guy? Like, ugh. Paul Skeens is the first in a while of a true box office starter.
Starting point is 01:23:39 I think Wheeler's box office, no one knows Tariq Scubal, but I think he is. I mean, Skeins has that skeins has the verlander Scherzer holiday aura about him that of just like that guy's a horse's horse and Would would even the look like even though he just looks huge. He's like built like, you know 30 and yeah, exactly. Yeah, that's a pitcher. Yeah, yeah, yes. All right, speaking of a pitcher,
Starting point is 01:24:09 talking a lot about the Jack versus Joe thing. And that is funny that Alex has been piecing it together, but I'll let you know this, Jack, that we have had a, you mentioned Anthony and Jersey before, who is, you know, Joe's champion, so to speak, on the morning show. And Anthony has done a great job supporting Joe. I will say that there has been one person
Starting point is 01:24:26 that has consistently called our show over the last few weeks having your back, Jack Fritz. The number one morning show I'm defending Jack Fritz caller is on our line right now. He's your guy. I don't know if you knew that he's been calling. You haven't been listening as much. I know.
Starting point is 01:24:42 But Tasty Cake Dom calls our show and has your back. Dom, how you doing, pal? Hey, James. Hey, Jack. Dom, great to hear your voice, pal, on this beautiful Saturday afternoon. Like Dom has your back. I know. He calls it.
Starting point is 01:24:58 He's like, I am a Fritzman. I'm here to have his back. Of all the people I don't want to let down during this competition, I think Tasty Cake Dom is number one. Yeah. Well, back you could never let me down and and Get that out of your head, you know, I Said this to John Richie I'm more confident in you than ever. I just think I just think it's going to be domination now Yeah, I needed to get brought down a little bit
Starting point is 01:25:24 I needed the cameras trying to you little bit. The camera's been trying to keep his ego in check this week. Trying is the keyword. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, dude, he choked like a dog the last four holes and you saw it starting to fall apart. Unfortunately I had a bad shot on the 10th hole and I'll never forget it for the rest of my life 155 yards out with an eight iron I've hit a thousand times in my in my life. So like he's He's trying to humble himself, but I know that he is now I can feel him feeling the pressure of people now thinking he's gonna win You got this guy and this James you said something that is interesting is that the Jack versus Joe thing has me I I will call Jack show that's where I will call and now I've become active yeah I know hold your show for this and now I've become active because I think,
Starting point is 01:26:26 and Jack, I have to say, James has defended you during the morning. Yeah, I mean, I heard some reports that he said I was just a high school pitcher, not a college pitcher. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. See, this is what happens. What happened was that Joe came on and was talking, oh, Jack lied about being college
Starting point is 01:26:46 Richard I'm like no he didn't Jack has always said that he didn't pitch that much in college He's always talked about keeping the book if you listen to the high hopes pot ever He has said he was a high school star and then in college kind of didn't you know put in as much as he wanted Or you know, whatever, but I've never said, you know, which is fair. I just repeated what you've always said Well, I've oh the thing that annoys me. I've always been very honest about my college career. That's my point That's what I'm saying. I'm saying you've always said that So yeah So
Starting point is 01:27:17 Things I've been listening to WIP for over 30 years all the time You got this station helped me run my route forever. Thanks, man most disappointing and I've said this to Jack many times is I'm most disappointed in Rhea I Really was a fan of hers and She's been way over the top. She has been very anti Jack in this Yeah, I get it and it's disappointed me because I like I said I thought she was really sharp and knew her stuff. Here's what I'll say Dom, Dom she is really sharp and she does know her stuff. That's all I'll say. Like yeah come on you know don't get on too much you know Joe
Starting point is 01:27:55 needed a little support, Ria provided it you know it happens you know. Okay okay we'll leave that there. I wanted to get to something. Yeah, I need a quick, Dom, because we're up against it. I need it real quick. Okay, I'll just make the one quick point. I think the pitching is great. Execution, more than getting personnel execution, because if I laid this at you, James, if I gave you an over and under out of a guy getting thrown out of their own plate today, at one, would either one of you take the under? Well, the Amundou play was infuriating insane and they've done a better job of like you know get them over get them in recently but they are just not a smart baseball team and they've been a smart baseball team I feel like even during
Starting point is 01:28:38 this entire run I haven't seen good high quality winning baseball since 2011 yeah all right Tom you ready for a from game? I'll try. Okay, we're gonna go back a little bit. I know you're back in the day a touch. We got this. We're gonna go with a former first round pick. Where did Broderick Bunkley go to college?
Starting point is 01:29:00 I don't even have a guess. Florida State. Yo, Fritz. Dude. Thank you. Well done. All right. Where'd Jerome McDougal go to college?
Starting point is 01:29:09 Miami? Yeah. Okay. There we go. There we go. All right. One more segment to go. We're going to try to win someone a Rita's gift card.
Starting point is 01:29:17 Then leading off after that. Don't go anywhere. We'll get you set. Philly's Red's coming up at four or five. It's Fritz and Seltzer till then. Yeah, this song's pretty good. Yeah. I think this is probably the best one.
Starting point is 01:29:29 I think, and I think Wonderwall is probably their best song. Justin Derazio disagrees. Yeah. It is their best song. I think, well, I think Don't Look Back in Anger is their best song. Well, so Don't Look Back in Anger is my personal favorite. I think Wonderwall is probably their best.
Starting point is 01:29:41 I mean, I think sometimes the best song's the best song for a reason. Wonderwall is just also just the basic answer. That's my point. I know, I'm saying sometimes the basic answer is the correct answer. Like Freebird is Lynyrd Skynyrd's best song. That's okay. Wow.
Starting point is 01:29:52 It is. I mean, it's not my favorite. Boutta for Curtis Low is my favorite song of all time by anyone, but Freebird is Freebird. You're like, what do you want me to do? You know? Ah, Stairway to Heaven. Well, I said by Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Starting point is 01:30:01 Yeah, so no, not always. So I'm not saying it always is that. All right, take it easy, Valerie. I'm just saying sometimes. No one's questioning your music knowledge. Sometimes a cliche is a cliche for a reason. That's all I'm saying. And I will say, if you haven't listened to it,
Starting point is 01:30:14 I probably had to listen to Stairway to Heaven for five years. And then I went back and just blared Stairway to Heaven. It's a total banger. I got chills again. I got chills again. I will say, D'Razio's bounce back songs today, on fire. D'Razio's great at it. Well, yeah.
Starting point is 01:30:29 And it's just like, and this is not to rip Fran. We never rip Fran. But Fran plays all these songs no one's ever heard of. At least D'Razio is fitting the vibe of the show. Yeah, I totally agree with you. And that's the other thing too. A, also doesn't need to tweet them out so everyone can see them.
Starting point is 01:30:44 Sorry, Fran. I'm just playing with you But but I will say too that I appreciate the Dorazios like listening to the show and playing things that have to do with the Show like oh we talk about twist and shout. I'll play twist and shout like I love that I'm a big proponent of producers playing things that happen during the show and I think I do a terrific job You're right. You know what? I'll say you're a treasure. All right. No way Elliot knew that last Oasis song. No, no chance. No chance. He only is there for Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova. Yes, without a doubt.
Starting point is 01:31:13 Like with no doubt. Yes, maybe just Wonderwall. All right, 215592-9494. Let's get some calls in before we get out of here. Let's talk to our buddy Rob Inducco. What up pal? Hey, good afternoon boys. How you doing? What's up Rob? Hey what's up Fred? Listen guys, are we gonna waste a World Series type of rotation here? I mean this is what I'm worried about. Three-quarters of this lineup just has no power, has no pop. Even a couple guys that we think have pop may never have the same pop again. Sure.
Starting point is 01:31:49 Top of that list, Bryce Harper, who we love, but I don't think he's feared anymore the way he was a couple years ago. Yeah, I was actually thinking about that yesterday, Rob, and there used to be a time where I was like, just get Bryce up, just get Bryce up. Now I've gotten to the point where I used to expect him in the big moments And now I've gotten to the point where
Starting point is 01:32:05 I used to expect him in the big moments and I've gotten more towards the please, I hope, I hope. So I'm with ya, I'm with ya. In the postseason I still think he's gonna rise up. I mean, even last year when he had no power heading down the stretch, he did show out in that series. I know, game three he struck out.
Starting point is 01:32:22 Yeah, but that homer in game, I mean, game two, they don't win that game without that Homer. And also, like, in general with Harper, where, and I am concerned about the future and what the risk means and how he's gonna age and all that. I do think that he is such a great and smart and talented pure hitter that he can adjust, like he can hit differently and not hit for power and be... I do think the point being that if the power goes away, I think he can turn into a 300 hitter. Like, I believe that. I think he could do that and contribute.
Starting point is 01:32:56 But, you know, for him to be the guy who we know he can be, you know, the power is a part of that. And a couple things real fast. This is what is making me counting down the days for training camp. Already there's stuff starting again with Lowe and Away and right field. He's already starting to draw with the fans again. You got guys like Bum who are in the strike. Yeah, real quick on that. Apparently now, this is a guy who was right there.
Starting point is 01:33:23 I mean, Cassianos was sticking up for stock yeah apparently yeah and a guy came down was yelling at Scott for for making the pop-up which is it like I mean Cassie honest was sticking up for his teammate if it was a guy I appreciate that from Nick more than I'm annoyed at Nick you know what stock I deserve to be yeah he does but I'm also okay if I wouldn't want Scott responding to a fan, but if a player wants to defend his team and I can't, I can't get too upset about that. Robbie, you got a, you want to do a from game with us? Oh, yeah, sure.
Starting point is 01:33:53 Bring it on. All right. Let's go with a Eagles quarterback. Where did Kevin Cobb go to college? Having Cobb. Oh my gosh. Come on. I'm gonna start in the dark here.
Starting point is 01:34:04 I'm just gonna say University of Nebraska. Houston Cougar. It sure is. Jack, I'm so impressed with this. All right, quickly back to the funds in one second. I just want to quickly ask about the bone thing last night because we didn't talk about it. I'm sure we'll get more into it leading off coming up in a few. But, you know, it was clearly a strike. I don't think that's in question. I mean question I mean definitely a strike whether you saw it or not But what'd you make of you know yet again in a moment from you know chucking the bat and you know kind of just You know not being able to keep it tight. Well, I understood it again
Starting point is 01:34:38 Essentially what happened on the golf course for the first five holes So I I mean like that's what you want out of your, out of your athletes is someone who's going to throw stuff and be angry and be a little mopey. Then me and me and Boam are very, I will say, I think the athletes I see myself the most in, and I don't know if this is going to make anyone at home feel better about Wednesday, but I see a lot of of imbeed I will say on the mound. I'm pretty good. I'm pretty good. They pretty locked in I I can I can get locked in for that golf is where it just totally Like I can I can take myself right out of around better than almost anyone as we saw. Yeah
Starting point is 01:35:22 Yeah, my golf coach came on this week and he's like, yeah, we've seen that before. And I was like, I know, I know. It's the reason why I was a good golfer, not a great golfer. But the bone thing, yeah, I guess I just have learned to live with it. You don't want to see it. I think he takes himself and psychs himself out of at bats with that kind of stuff. But again, right when it seemed like he was at least rounding into a guy that we saw close to at the beginning of last year, feels like we're right in a big step back moment.
Starting point is 01:35:52 It really bothers me at ball more than anything. It's not even his fault. I can't go through another postseason with him batting fourth. I refuse to go through that. Yeah. I could not be more with you. Could not be more. All right.
Starting point is 01:36:04 We are up against it. Le at leading off coming up next, but quickly let's try and give people a chance to get in the running to win this free discard. I got three people on, I'm gonna give you all a chance. We're gonna go with the from game quickly. Rapid fire, it's all gonna be current Eagles. You got a shot here. Cashmere, tell me, where did Tyler Steen go to college?
Starting point is 01:36:21 Tyler Steen went to college in Texas. Oh, that's tough. Nope, he went to University of Texas? Nope, he went to University of Alabama. He did go to the University of Alabama. Alright, Charles in South Carolina, the player taken right after him, Sydney Brown! Where did Sydney Brown go to college? Wisconsin? University of Illinois. That is correct.
Starting point is 01:36:41 We got one more here. Let's go to our guy Fred in Scranton. Fred, a lot of pressure here on this last one. We will go with that same draft. He has been talked about as a potential trade chip. Where did Tanner McKee go to college? Tanner McKee went to college at, oh, man. I, you guys, that's a tough one to make. He was Stanford Cardinal. Oh
Starting point is 01:37:12 Yes, all right, so not many things in there I think you could go do you have any given a list in front of you? I can yeah, I kind of do I've been scrolling like not like directly in front of me But I've been looking I just wanted I wonder how many I get before we yeah, you know fire some Like current Eagles, we know whatever you want to do Okay. All right. Here we go. All right. How about where did Marcus Smith go Marcus Smith went to Louisville? Where did? Jalen Watkins go Florida nice one there. Where did uh, uh
Starting point is 01:37:39 Brandon Boykin go Brandon Boykin Went to Georgia. Look at you. All Boykin went to Georgia. Look at you. All right. Let's see two more here. Two more. Where did Nate Allen go?
Starting point is 01:37:52 Nate Allen went to South Florida. Yo, dude. All right. One more. I got to go back a little bit. Let's find a little deeper cut here. All right. All right.
Starting point is 01:37:59 Where did, I'm going to give you a first round pick here. OK. Where did Mike Patterson go to college USA. Yeah I did Alright, let's go to Justin Ross. He is a wheel set up with the names of the people who answered it We're gonna find who won the read his gift card all four people all four Full showing we would have we took so many calls today that heard from the northeast would be one of the four Anyway, go ahead. But the winner is
Starting point is 01:38:25 Drew in Westchester a great go-birds caller. He deserves it shout out to Drew I will say Drew texted me while her was on the phone saying I think herbs gonna get his answer right so What a call by that's a bold call right? So I congratulations Drew he wins the Rita's gift card don't go anywhere though because the Phillies are playing at 4 or 5 right here On WIP and Jack Fritz, and I aren't going anywhere. We're gonna get because the Phillies are playing at 4.05 right here on WIP and Jack Fritz and I aren't going anywhere. We're going to get you set.
