This is the High Hopes podcast.
High Hopes
on the Odyssey app in sports radio 94 WIP.
The crowd was singing High Hopes
smiling through a broken nose.
Tell the business heaven oh, oh High Hopes, High Hopes Smiling through a broken nose. Oh, high hopes, high hopes.
I feel a little less alone.
Yo, it is another edition of the High Hopes Podcast presented by
Miller Lite, official sponsor of the Philadelphia Phillies tastes like Miller time Philadelphia
celebrate responsibly. No idea what to do with the other what
do you do when they they split they score 16 runs on Friday,
they lose 10 to one yes, really, I don't I can know. Honestly,
Jack, I don't we were like, Oh, let's do the pod because we
love our listeners and we just want to talk to him and it's
like, why not? I got very little say coming off this weekend. Yeah. I
like the injuries are really like the only thing that I'm
thinking about right now. Like that's the only thing that I
felt like a, you know, I could have any lasting effects. Yeah.
How you doing?
I have two thoughts. Okay, good. Open the podcast. One. When
did you turn it off yesterday? When did I turn it? How long did
you know? Did you make a? Great question. It was the fifth inning. 10. Wow. Yes.
I turned it off and I went to another football game.
So two TVs with the football games and I opened the ESPN score.
I was going to put the game on my computer. I was like, no, you know what?
You don't even deserve it. I just opened up the ESPN MLB app thing.
And I just kept checking and it kept being 10. Nothing. I was like,
I'm not going back.
Yeah, that's what I did.
It was 10 nothing and like the third.
Yeah.
The Seth Johnson debut was not going well.
I almost said inside baseball, I almost texted you and then I was like, you know
what, it's I'm worth it.
Well, what am I going to be like, Hey, sorry about Seth Johnson, buddy.
Well, first off my first thought on Seth Johnson,
you tweeted out happy that within two minutes it was over.
It was over.
Connor Norby might be the best player in the history of baseball.
I should do like Connor Norby a lot.
I'm glad he's good.
Well, I was hoping that when he hit the home, it was like, oh, well, he knows him.
Yeah, he goes thing.
It'll be fine after this.
Well, my hopeful thought was like, all right, he had to get the jitters out.
There it is.
Yeah. First major league star.
Yeah. What's going to happen?
The most bold thing that Seth Johnson did was wear the number 51.
Yeah.
Like, Randy Johnson's number.
Can we take a deep breath before we were putting on 51 and because your name's Johnson.
one and your name's Johnson.
So it was a, it was a real like throwback to the bad era of Philly's pitchers that I always believed in.
So it was a good, like, this is how you used to be.
I remember everyone like, Oh, Jack's supposed to be smart.
Right.
Oh, and then guy gets shells and it's like, wow, maybe he's an idiot.
So, well, I will tell you real quick, just for you and the listeners from the pitching thing,
I actually had a conversation with Emily.
I won my fantasy league title again for the century.
I won the championship last year, too.
We'll see what happens.
But I won the regular season, the regular season title.
Oh, I'm saying back to the season I was talking to Emily about.
I was going through and I've led the league in the area and with the last two years.
And I was like, I got to be honest, it's all for it.
I was like, for instance, amazing at picking late round pitchers and like I've got like Bailey over and all these dudes who just like crushed for me this year.
So like you do know what you're talking about.
Jack hitters early and let Jack pick your pitchers late.
It's a great formula.
Well, and the problem with the thing that is always tough when one of these guys come up from the minor leagues and then you see them in
Game action is that it happened in Michael Mercado within two innings. I was like
And same thing as that Johnson like the first the first slider that moved a millimeter
So The first slider that moved a millimeter maybe, I was like, I don't know. I don't know.
So, there's two things that Johnson needs.
Like, there's one's a real splitter.
Like, he obviously has a splitter, like, kind of look to him.
And then he needs more of a knuckle curve rather than a slider.
Like, he's more of a, his, the way he throws is more prone to get more out of
I think a curveball slash sweeper then it is a slider like the slider should
really be a cutter so I think eventually as a four-pitch guy he needs to spend
about the entire office working on it because the fastballs good like it like it when he can find the
strike zone yeah I yeah I made it three Walker was napping and like I had to do like errands and stuff.
And like the early games weren't that interesting yesterday.
No, they weren't.
So football period didn't end up being that interesting yesterday.
Well, I forgot to I forgot to bet on the one o'clock games.
Oh, that's like who even cares.
Who cares?
What's the point of this?
What am I even doing here?
So I chose grocery shopping.
We're watching over watching the fills down.
I didn't turn on the radio.
No, again, that's what they lost privileges for me.
Like I could have put them on the computer.
Like I had three screens available to me.
And I was like, no, like you're not doing it today.
Oh, I do that.
And my second thought to open the podcast here is like.
I just need the regular season to be over like I just like
I feel like it happens always early in football season where it's like
just get me to the post.
Yeah, I'm so there like I can't deal with the Mets run.
I can't deal with like the one or two seed thing or even the three seed.
Like I'm over it.
I'm like, I'm over it.
Stabilized, you know, Saturday and Sunday, not withstanding.
We'll get into, I guess, Saturday. Would you be willing to take the two seed today for the playoffs?
Like the season ends now, they're one game back.
They don't get, you're good.
Just end it.
Just end it.
Just end it.
Just end it.
I don't need the Mets making a run.
I don't need this being close.
Like I just, I want it to be over and I want to feel right October because I,
I can just already sense that this next month's going to be like.
Oh, it's, it's going to be brutal.
Well, it's going to be brutal because like, so now they're banged up, which is
obviously a big story, the biggest to come out of the weekend.
Like, I don't care.
Well, I can't want to say 10, nothing.
Cause I forget that they scored the run late.
I didn't see it.
Nice.
10, nothing.
They lost that.
Nothing has it.
I can't keep room LA and, and Greg Murphy.
Yeah.
The biggest thing we could take away is the injuries.
I mean, the bone thing, the update on that not awesome.
So said just like, whoops, there we go.
Like the JT thing, you know, season, the game gets the hit, then he's out the next day.
They bring up, you know, Aramis Garcia didn't even know he was someone like triple easy.
He's a spring training.
Good. Clearly that's a March clearly. That's a March ends hurt
Let's go to our fourth catcher. Yeah, by the way for people tweeted me like where's Marsha?
Shocked he's art. Yeah, who knew that Marsha could get hurt, which is a shame
It is a shame
But it's also part of the reason that Marsha is not where he's supposed to be it is what it is
You can't see in the field. You're not gonna be able to move
Well, I'm not and and you bring up all his injuries and Bryce still says it this doesn't look great. No, right. Yeah. You know, he's still
every one ball deep to center. I was like, look at that. And then it's like
when I short again, every time,
the whenever he swings and misses, it looks like,
yeah, well, I'm saying he's like, yeah, you guys saw me have to put the bat
down. He's like, that's probably gonna happen more. Why? Why is this gonna
happen more? Don't play for two weeks.
Like, what are we doing here?
But but but I think that obviously, I think the biggest thing we've learned here
is that it is not a Philly's decision.
Like, I think this. Oh, it's a bright.
If it were up to the team, he would be sitting.
I am. I bet everything.
This is a bright decision, whereas like so I think they're honestly
they're opting for long term health over like
winning these games right now with the so so with JT. Boom kind of felt that way. But I don't know,
like, I hated that comment. I felt like the bone thing was like, all right, let's get him a blow.
And then he's like, it feels like I'm getting hit with a hammer every time he's like,
believe it or not, I believe that's what you want to hear. It's not what you want to hear about from me.
Not what I was exactly you to say, dude.
So the injuries are going to make the rest of the season bumpy.
They just are like, but it's time to buckle in.
It's not going to it's not.
By the way, September won't be easy.
No, no, I don't think so.
Carefree September.
So we got it. We got to buckle in with the offense and then every like who's going to be the
fist starter.
I mean, that we only needed you.
Yeah.
I, we always do people, they all put Jack out there.
We're actually at the point where it's like, maybe you put Jack.
What's so funny is when people do that, it's like, there's a real NFL players
here, you know, do it to them and make sense.
Like I need you out there.
Although I don't know what Richie would be anymore.
Like a slot receiver.
Yeah.
I don't know.
Yeah, no, I think Richie would be,
he'd probably be, what would Richie be?
A punter.
Maybe a punter.
A safety maybe?
Maybe.
But like, you know, that would make sense for me.
No, everything hurts.
So, yeah, it's just like,
the injuries are a huge storyline.
And I mean, I think we're hoping that they're more
just rest like precaution versus like, you know,
they're actually hurt because then again,
it changed everything heading into the heading into October.
So yeah, the injuries are the big story over the weekend.
Bryce continuing, it's officially a month now,
officially a month since his last home run.
Is it? Yeah. September 9th or officially a month since his last home run. Is it?
Yeah.
September 9th or August 9th is last home run today.
So it's been a lot of like almost like you almost hit one on, on Friday.
I guess he had a couple of hits on Saturday.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You know, he hit the ball.
I mean, he, it seems like he's adjusted his approach.
He said, you know, it seems like he's doing a lot more of the spring, the ball
around the field when he needs to, which is fine.
Fine. I mean, it's if you have to do that to be able to contribute, not how he won.
It is September 9.
Yeah, I know.
The ball out of the ballpark, man.
So in my optimistic sense, my optimistic sense is, okay, he just wants to play until they
like clinch the division and then he'll sit.
Because he keeps talking about the division too.
Like he, what was he was asked yesterday about the division or that he was asked
about the magic number and he's like, I'm not even talking about it.
He's like, we just gotta go, you know, it's not over or whatever.
So I do think he's got some.
And look, you just win the division quickly then guys.
Right.
If we don't ask for much, just win the division as fast as possible.
Like it's like, just do it.
They want to get you.
Just do it.
Yeah.
Um, but yeah, it's just, I, every time Bryce swings and misses, like I just, I
want to just, I don't know, I want to drive in my car silent and just going to
nowhere.
Well, look, we've done the whole and rightfully so I think mean, all season long and really the last few years, we get it.
Like it's one of those things where you can break down the regular season and we
can overreact like we do and this and that and whatever.
But at the end of the day, like we all know that anything can happen in the playoffs.
It's a baseball playoffs. It's about getting hot.
It's chaos and all that stuff.
I can't imagine them going on a run without Bryce having power.
Like I just I can't. Like all the little things going on right now.
Like it's possible like they can any of these.
That's the thing about the baseball playoffs.
Like it's wild. Like weird stuff happens like Schwab or Kachorba for a month.
And then, you know, who knows, by the way, the September Schwab are clear.
June Schwab. Yeah.
It was what you what is it?
I swept timber, swarovet, swarovet.
OK, all right.
It's either way better than Schwoon. Yeah, much better. Schwab Timber. Okay, all right. It's either way.
A little better than Schwoon.
Yeah, much better.
Schwoon is not.
Yeah, I know.
Why is Richie?
I don't know.
At least he's ditched out.
Yeah, he's got.
I'm very glad.
He loves wordplay.
Yeah, he's big on that, man.
He's really big on wordplay.
But Schwab Timber is.
Is way better.
In on Schwab Timber.
It really works.
We need Schwabtober.
Yeah, Schwabtober is what we really do
and maybe even a touch of Schwabember, you know. Would need to work over. Yeah, we're October is what we really do. And maybe even a touch of Shwerbemberg, you know, would love to also get
price price tober. How about that?
Shwerber to get a hit before the NLCS?
Yeah, don't wait. Don't don't no more bits.
All right. Yeah. Listen, this team bits, our teams are going to be bringing in
right handed relievers to face Shwerber in the playoffs.
Well, the only hit singles against
left isn't really a slap hitter
against lefty man.
He's risky.
He's his OPS in September.
Yeah, well, thank God, you know,
but so that's where like they
theoretically they could win
without operating home runs.
I just I struggle.
It's a lot harder for me to envision a magical October run if harper's not in the soul
But so you're talking there and I mostly agree the one thing that with him is like I do think there's for some reason
In the postseason like he just goes Superman mode like it doesn't matter the wrist doesn't marry me
He just sits on runs like he in 2022
Does marry me just to run like he in 2022. Yeah, he was out. Yeah.
Tommy John ligament.
Well, it's way too.
You also had the the snow thing too.
We have both the tortor.
Tommy John Linger.
He's coming back from his wrist being shattered.
So, yeah, I'm with you.
I do think that.
But I agree with you.
I think I expect Harper to get there eventually.
But like I'm just saying, if he doesn't.
Yeah, I think that's a tough way to win.
And what I would just appreciate again, if they could just wrap this whole
division thing up quickly, if that's what your goal here is, is it's just,
if he could just sit the last week, I don't know something like it's not.
Cause again, he can't, he's struggling to drive the baseball.
I appreciate like slapping and getting hits and getting base hits and doubles.
But like, again, it's just such a compromised version
of who he is.
So yeah, but hopefully they can get the injury thing
figured out because again, if they had in October,
like now with all these injuries happening at the wrong time
and it could very well be an early accident.
Like now they're starting to lose some of their depth.
And now they're-
Exactly, yeah.
I mean starters and depth.
I mean, you know, yeah.
Although people, I mean, are there cry was their calls to the station today.
Was there people were begging for more stubby.
I mean, zero.
Come on, man. He gets a bunch down on Saturday.
You got hit in the head.
Yeah. Twice. You got hit in the head twice.
Him and he got hit that once without his helmet on and once with it on.
Him and Bryce recreated the Bob Boone Pete Rose catch
Like it was it was beautiful. It was beautiful. It was a great it was the most
Bat hitting the catcher. It's always just like come on guys. Can we do better than this?
Like I don't know whose fault it was it did seem like subs kind of lean forward a little bit
But still it's like we can't have that all right that has to be a portable stick of ballplayer. Yeah
No, he's a ball player out there.
Yeah.
She's a good ball player.
That's right. Yeah.
That's what we said about President Saddle last year.
Yeah.

What injury you most concerned about?
Like when you look at home?
Yeah, yeah.
I mean, it's bomb because like like his is the one I think is most real.
Like JT may seem like he'd be fine, like he just want to give him the weekend.
And they thought they could beat Marlins without him.
That's what they're doing.
Balmy, they're winning the time.
And I thought they're like extending it like, OK, we don't need to rush you back.
Rush you back. So well, especially the way they talked about it at first, like
the way they were like, oh, don't think it's going to back, rush you back, rush you back. So well, especially the way they talked about it at first, like the way they were.
I got it.
Don't think it's going to be I.L.
It's not good.
A PSA out there.
We need to stop just believing what they say.
Oh, my God.
Because it's been like it's been two years of this where it's like he's fine.
You know, Reese Oscars is hop, skipping and jumping in the.
Oh, I know. Right after.
Yeah, I'm walking.
He's walking around looking good.
And they're sprinting.
Yeah.
From what we are like there. And he's done. He's walking around looking good. Damn near sprinting. Yeah. From what we are like there.
And he's done.
He's done for the year.
They're just it's not like it's it's just I can't do the whole positive
injury update thing like until he's on the field.
He's on the aisle. Yeah.
Honestly, I don't I don't love the way Siriana goes about it either,
but I would rather have the I'm not telling you anything about it.
Yes. Then the the. I I would rather have the I'm not telling you anything about it. Yes. Then the the
like, I don't know. Sorry. Like whatever you did. Yeah. You did. Exactly.
That I'm talking to the doctor. Yeah. I don't know. I'll talk to the doctor.
Definitely. It's Friday, man.
Like, don't lie to us. Like, you know, lie to us. Why? I want to be.
Rob, I want to be lied to.
I need it.
He's never going to come back.
I don't know.
Like this whole like that's why the JT it's like JT said yesterday.
Yeah, I feel fine.
I'll be back.
Like he's done.
He's done.
It'll be in two weeks.
I mean, it's like, oh, bum's fine.
It's like, well, actually, I feel like there's a hammer hitting me.
And who's he talking to?
Who is Rob Thompson talking to with the injuries?
It doesn't make any sense. How does it go from he's fine to be back in the day to I yell spot. It feels like a hammer is hitting my elbow or my or my wrist. It's ridiculous. Please start lying
about the injuries. I don't want to have I would rather have my hopes. I don't want hope. I don't
want I rather hope that kills you. Yes, fuck us for years.
That's the thing is don't give us hope.
Then boom comes back and we look at this.
So great. How about that?
Quick look. They always did it right with Bryce.
Bryce is like, I got for half the year.
Thanks shows up May 4th. Right.
You're right. Set set expectations low and blast those expectations out of the.
At the look for that's all we care about.
Yeah, smart.
It's all we care about.
You let us be running these things once again.
Listen, if you guys need some help over there, you know, we're.
Listen, I hope resume.
Brian Barber.
Yep. Caleb Coughlin, not Dave.
Bryce Harper, Bryce Harper.
You want to try and I was I didn't think they were getting that one doesn't that one doesn't count. But think of
the of the movements that we have put out there. The injury one
might be number one, though.
Like, I like that, like to the top of the list, please stop
giving us hope. Yeah, seriously, though. I mean, I just say
it. Honestly, we do beds, we do drugs. This is like stone cold
good advice. Okay, this is this is not a bit
Like this is not a thing like this is Philadelphia Phillies. Listen to us. Stop giving positive intrepid
It doesn't do anyone any good in any situation. No again. We'll see him in the field
Yeah, at this point, I'll see I guess Bomer game one of the NLDS. Yeah, hopefully. Yeah, hopefully
But yeah the injury stuff. It's,
it's real. It's concerning. And then the, the old vintage Nola on Saturday.
I can't, he's been really good. And the last like two stars prior was a couple of his best.
You I think the one you were like, that was the best he's looked in a while. Yeah. Like it was just
to your point, especially against the Marlins, like we're taking right back to 2020 and it just it felt so familiar.
It really did. So Saturday and this is so this is, you know,
whenever whenever I get like this, things usually go wrong.
Just putting that one out there. Running six miles.
And no, but when I get to the mode of where I feel like
I can let my guard down.
Yeah, oh, it's the worst possible thing, yeah.
It's like kick your feet up, Jack,
it's not a jack that anyone needs.
No.
Because when I feel like I can kick my feet up,
bang, they lose six straight.
So, but I got the-
You got to always be ready.
You gotta head on a swivel.
Yeah, I know.
You gotta get your guard up.
But I thought I was fine when they won 16 to two and they had no law on the mound and they scored what they scored in the first and they whatever
And I was like, alright, they're fine because I was at a wedding in Annapolis all Saturday
So, you know, usually I'd be like
Sneak in the corner and I watched the guy got it
And then I was looking at it and I was like, no, it was like, alright right, they came back there. They, it's close enough. And then all of a sudden
it's like, no, no, no, no.
Oh geez. So that I went and watched the,
I went and watched the condensed game of it and it
was like, if they weren't in the position they are,
like if they weren't in like a pretty healthy spot, not, you know, injury wise,
overall record wise, we on this podcast are serious about injury.
We did not a bit.
Not a can emphasize that enough.
But, you know, like if they weren't in a pretty healthy situation,
it would have been an off like an excruciating experience.
Oh, yeah. A Marlin scene that is gutted.
Oh, it's disaster.
No, a walking, walking guys with two outs, the seven inning, yeah, a Marlins team that is gutted. Oh, it's disaster. No
Baseball walking guys with two outs the seven inning like it would if they weren't in a good spot
This would be a different tone of the podcast
in all time Philly's my
Especially that loss and then the ten nothing as we're saying yesterday like the follow-up like we would have been on Saturday
Watching that and then we get 10 nothing yesterday. We're coming in here melting the freak down.
People would have put it would have said, all right, we're moving Sanchez up a day.
I know I'm spending Seth Johnson on a on a Sunday when we against the ones we need to win.
So, yeah, it was.
It was it was an annoying split.
Ultimately, like they they lucked out yesterday
The brewers is well the Brewers lost and the Mets lost and that's for up one nothing in the seventh
I think and and then they blew it in the end which is good because they
Nine straight yeah, they've been way hot and they've been the best the best record in baseball since London since London. It's great
It's awesome Jesse on one also
I mean the Philly like if the Phillies
Fall by in the Brewers and the Met the Mets will probably the sixth seed if they get it. I mean I would
That's the first round come here best of three. Yeah, so the Mets they have a field on they definitely have a field on
I've been I've been worried about the Mets since the OMG song came out
Yeah, they're my stuff to the whole grimace thing was this was annoying
Yeah, yeah, and I keep waiting for them to met and they haven't really met in a while. You know, it's been great
I like David Stearns a lot. So I think he's a really good GM
The the one thing that I feel pretty good about if they play the Mets is like I just I'm not afraid of their rotation
at all, I mean like
Means who Jose can I got to start playing
with Sean Manaya like who has been really good.
He's been great for them.
I mean, I guess our playoff game.
No,
there's one guy that I was mocked by you
in my my perfect offseason.
Oh, time.
Luis Severino.
Oh, it was my I did mock you.
Yeah, I believe you use the term cook.
Yeah, he's been pretty good. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, no, you term cook. Yeah, he's been pretty good
Man I has been really good. I mocked you pretty pretty relentlessly about that. Yeah. Yeah, I
Lose Seth Johnson Well, we've lost that Johnson yet. Yeah, there you go. Still believe back. There you go
just needs to spend all the entire off season with a camera and developing different.
We certainly lost the guns for this season.
Let's hope.
Well, who's going to start?
Oh, I was just about to say who to think we'd be sitting here saying,
begging, thank God that Colby Allard is back.
Who would have thunk that we which, you know.
Well, we won't talk about your earlier takes on Colby.
Yeah, well, it wasn't a fan and now I need him.
So now we love Colby Allen.
I mean, it's so funny because you keep saying to yourself, right?
You just keep talking. It's like, OK, we only need the fifth started three more times.
But my God, it's just a week for a winner.
I know. How do we get to this point where the fifth started?
The Spencer Turnbull.
It's so funny because it's like it's it's an ongoing bit, whether it's the center fielder,
whether it's the bullpen, like no matter how good the Phillies are, no matter how far they
go in the playoffs, we always find a point in a season and this is annoying, it's the
end of the season where we find a way to have the worst in the sport at something.
It feels that way.
I mean, there's a lot of bad fist starters, but like we, I mean, they're arguably as,
I mean, they have, they never win when the fist are pictures.
Like you can't be worse.
Are they, are they over their last 11?
So I know they had not wanted to tie.
They didn't want to tie one star nine may, except for the one that, you know, the relief
in Toronto.
Oh yeah.
Nothing.
Yeah.
That was the first one that they appeared in that they had won.
Yeah.
And just in watching that again, that's another fit.
They won the game. There's another star game.
I mean, like they've just other than when Colby Allert pitch, they've been on.
Yeah. Yeah. Well, and and I didn't like the situation on on Saturday.
Like it wasn't obviously locked in on the game, but just in watching the condensed
version, like it looked like Taiwan was throwing like a special slap. Oh my God. It
somehow looked worse. So it's so funny. I'll always like, I watch games that Emily like,
you know, watching the games at night and whenever a pitcher position player comes in, like,
I'll be like, oh, you like obviously visit, like, because if you don't know,
seem like the hell's the guy
or whatever the guy pitch on Friday.
I know he was other than I saw him.
I'm like, oh, that's because you didn't know who he was.
No, you don't remember him from the twenty twenty two Astros.
They ruined our life.
No, I don't. Wow.
The world's OK.
Either right. I saw him and I'm like, oh, that's position player.
I'm like, and she's like, how do you know?
And I'm like, just look.
And then she looked and she's like, oh, you can tell.
Like Taiwan looks like a position player pitching.
He does. Like if you don't know any better and you look up, you'd be like, oh, it's
so it's that they're like their basement or something.
Pitching doesn't matter.
He does.
So he doesn't he doesn't look like a pitcher.
He looks like position player up there.
Just.
Yeah, it was a different level of Taiwan slop, which is already not exactly the most
awe inspiring.
Yeah, it is so funny that the fifth spot's gotten so bad.
So bad people are like, I don't know bring that one
Seriously flipped it all the way on
Andrew Pan is gonna look really good in that spot. Oh is he ever body next year ever his first rehab?
I guess is 15 pitches. I heard get excited hit 99
body
You see hopefully is good at least at least he is coming in with like because there's always going to be any,
you know, top, you know, best pitching prospect ever for the Phillies.
I guess there's always going to be pressure.
At least he is coming into like a nice landing spot where it's like, well,
you're just the fifth.
You can't be worse than what we dealt with.
Yeah. Well, I wonder what they're going.
I mean, they're obviously going to the managers innings.
So maybe that's part of the reason they're keeping Taiwan.
Oh, we all know the reason they're keeping Taiwan is because they
stole 36 million dollars. Yeah,
I want to give a shot next year.
Look, with this specific thing with that, like, the money's
already there. Like I why not? He Yeah, I mean, like what you
never know with the development, you know, maybe off season, you
figure out something where you add a little velocity like, you
know, but like, I can't imagine that Taiwan Parker Walker is a
part of their plan.
No, no, but they are going to need to have a real sixth
option.
We're seeing it this year, right? Like because of a time
being so bad, but Taiwan bad then injuries and this time,
I mean, they've gone through like five or six guys in that
spot. Like, Termo was supposed to be the guy he got hurt.
You need to bring him back.
You just think that, right?
You need dudes like you just need arms.
So, well, yeah.
And for the course of the season and not to get to into the 2025 Phillies.
But especially because Painter is like obviously going to be in the innings limit.
You know, they're going to need a six starter.
So we'll see. Yeah, I'm with you.
With you, Colby Allard, I'll be out there right now.
Yeah, give an extension to the team around.
Whips it in there, man.
We got a lot of lefties.
A lot. We're not.
No, that was like something the Phillies were just not their last.
There's a stretch where Adam Morgan was our last left hand starter.
Unbelievable. Yeah. Yeah.
All right.
What else we got? We start naming random. Yeah. Yeah. All right What else we got naming
Josh Johnson Jake Peevee
Brad penny Brad pennies a good Paul. Thank you, Ricky, and Alaska. Oh, it's gonna go Marley. Yeah, AJ Burnett
Chris Ball said how long do we want to do this?
Leave on her Nan. Ah, Levi Hernandez is a good Paul
One of World Series from
Heath Bell was a Marlin
Remember when they signed they signed Jose Jose Reyes youth Bell and Mark Farley in an offseason. They were horrible. Yeah
Good times good time. Yeah
So and about Santa, I mean we're not every so gonna keep going
Yeah. So and of all Santa, I mean, we're not every so going to keep going.
I think of all the Marlins stars was way in Chen.
Was it Wilson Valdez down there for a moment?
No, it wasn't. Wilson Heredia. That's that's a random.
Dantra Willis.
Well, you know, so funny as I've gotten older and this is one of my
I like it in a way,
but it's also very weird to me.
But it's like there's we talked to the younger producers here, obviously, Justin
Morgenstine, right? And love Justin Morgenstine.
But my guy, but like his beginning of baseball knowledge is like 2010.
I know. So like if I brought out Don Charles Willis, that's like
these guys have no idea what I'm talking about.
No. When we bring out that.
Meanwhile, Don Charles Willis was like the coolest pitcher in baseball for.
For like, yeah.
It's like there was like a three month spam where it was like, that is the dude.
Don Charles Willis and Tim Linsk on the two nastiest shortest.
Yeah. I mean, oh, yeah.
And let's go into Cy Young.
Yeah, I know. It's freaking awesome.
Brad Penny started an all star game. He did. Yeah, they had I mean they they had dudes man
The Marlins brought guys in and out like yeah, it's an arms Burnett never reached his potential down there
No, no, he was talented though. Oh, yeah, he won a World Series against us. Sadly former Phil. Yeah and a former
2014 agent Burnett and then he went he left here and then was discussing again for the Pirates, which was
beyond annoying.
Yeah, it was annoying.
He had a nice year there.
It was two years.
Yeah, I think he retired in 15 or 16.
That's enough.
That's enough.
No.

Or wherever you get your podcasts take back. I really like Connor Norby
You know, yeah, like I know we had like eight home runs against us in two games
But like if there's one Marlins player that that you could have it could be like a real problem
You know, like I think it's Connor Norby. I love it. They've always had talent like Jake Berger
I'm not buying the what do you have toys. You have 25 home runs
Yeah, like he's the second most in baseball in the second half like not really buying Jake Berger
He's more of like a like Norby's a a foundational piece. Yeah, Norby's good and Jake Berger's a
Majorly baseball player. Yeah
Just I don't know if a winning baseball. No, I'm certainly not playing third base It's really not playing third base
But kind of or we might be quite because of some problems for us for a good stretch and the literature
I was a good trade by them Trevor Rogers for Norby and hit me
I know but the good part is they won't pay them and then
We can get him
And then just like some good numbers, I guess.
I have a lot of numbers.
Last 15 games.
You get some good numbers, I think.
Last 15 games for these two.
Stott and Marsh.
So Stott's last 15, 359 with a 964 OPS.
Ooh.
And Marshie, 353 with an 11, like a 1,019 OPS.
So like, once they're hopefully healthy
and you obviously feel good about again,
Schwab in September is a 1400 OBS, insane.
Trey, hot and cold, had the home run on Friday.
Just gotta hope he's hot.
Still, it's such a coin flip when the ball's in his way.
So.
Oh, I know that one where like, he doesn't like to put his body in front of
the ball and no one does these days.
I know. But like that week, like we grew up with that, like get your body in front
of it, man.
I'm taking more. We get the body.
Yes. You know, like so many of Trey Turner's errors come because he doesn't
his body in front of.
So and I know that one was hip, pretty hard.
It was like, we get a chance.
He could have put his body in front of it and said he's like, like I'm gonna swipe it from the side and it went right by him like so it's it's the I'm not
I've never been a big
Analytics guy for deep. I just think it's flawed. Mostly. It's really hard. Yeah, they're they're imperfect
But so like feeling percentage wise Trey is top five in fielding percentage among shortstop. Really? And of all the advanced metrics, he's pretty much like, even CJ Abrams is like the worst.
Yeah.
Well, it's clear.
I mean like, we always say, you know, we love our A-lakes, but we're I-test-men.
Yeah.
You know, first and foremost.
And like, you don't have to watch how many fillies game to see Trey Turner not a good
shortstop, definitively.
And that decision is going to come sooner than I think they
thought.
So I look, it should be made now. Like, let's be complete that
not in this season, right this second, I'm saying, but like,
Trey Turner should be moved off of shortstop. He is not good at
the position. It's too important defensive position to put him
out there just because he paid him. But they paid him $300
million to be the shortstop
for a long time.
Like I agree with you.
I think it'll get there, but I don't think it's coming yet.
And I think and I think they give him next year and then I think that is.
Yeah. And it's to the Bryce point you made before, where it's like this
clearly Bryce decision.
Sadly, I think it's going to be like at least for a little while a trade decision.
I don't think if he does not want to move off shortstop,
I don't think they force
him to move off yet. Was I thinking about Starling Cabba this morning?
Of course, Cabba, the 80 grade.
Yeah, 80 grade.
80, dude.
One 80.
I will wear eight in place like we always said, like you don't even need to hit.
If you're an 80 grade shortstop, you know, you can be on.
We do always say that.
But then it's like it's on.
Ross, by the way, real quick, can we give you all a little credit?
We didn't mention it triple.
Dude, belted a ball off the centerfield wall.
Like I was like, what is this?
It doubled the game before to like, you know, picking it up.
Yeah, the but my only problem with that was I saw Christian Pache at a ball there.
Like, you know, saved the season last year
so I can't get too caught up but I need them just be serviceable because the defense is obviously
the defense but um the trade thing is definitely concerning but like if you get stock going I know
like things can change in but at least they're showing signs of life him and marsh big time
it's very important it just lengthens the lineup you know Cassie has Cassie's stayed pretty like
he's not like he's launching home runs but he's He's been fine. He's been fine. Yeah, he's fine. And you know, JT has been pretty fine as hopefully his injuries. He's been much better like early in the season. It was like, oh, and he's been okay. And he's a dude. JT has been an underrated great postseason player last year. You're right. Like, yeah, overall numbers last two postseason. He's been one of the best guys. So good point. Yes. Yeah, no, you're right
We always talk about Chorbers numbers in the playoffs and Harper and like these guys. We don't you're right
we've not talked much about how good JT's been and
Yeah, so but it just makes the lineup look that much better
So it's good to see those guys picking it up and now like what's so sub being out. It's not
Southland every night. Yeah. Yeah, we're gonna see Cody Clemens a lot more with the bone injury as well.
And how about Weston Wilson making a diving play?
Unbelievable. Yeah.
It is funny, too.
I never would have thought, you know, a year ago, whatever
that bone would go out and you'd be like, wow, what a downgrade.
You know, you're coding who's been great. He threw a ball maybe into the. I said to Emily, I said this, wow, what a downgrade. No, you're not. Well, Cody Clemens, who's been great, he threw a ball maybe into the.
I said to Emily, I said this, honestly,
I don't know if I've ever seen an infielder throw a ball higher.
Went out of the frame.
They went.
You couldn't you couldn't see the ball anymore in the frame.
I don't like guys who lose them.
You know, you see, I don't ever remember one going that high from third to first
because it's right out of hand
It just took off. Yeah
It's like kind of a weird throw because
You can't get a lot on it. You need to throw pretty hard. Yeah, he's got caught in between it Yeah, I did clearly it just took off on him, but I definitely can't remember one going that high above the first bit
Yeah, so listen, it's gonna be be a I mean, the Rays, they've they're they've won the last two series
against they took two or three from the Orioles.
And they're the Rays, they're the Rays.
Annoying, still pretty good.
The the Mets series weekend is going to be hopefully a lot of fun.
Mets series this weekend leading into the Brewers next week.
So it's Mets this weekend, three against the Brewers.
So it's like a big stretch of baseball coming up here, especially for a team
that, you know, we're like, where are they at right now?
What are we going to see?
And the season is I want to feel because again, I walked out this morning,
you know, it's like this is October.
You know what I mean? Oh, yeah, you feel it.
This weather is like I need to be I need to be surrounded by
46,000, you know Feeling like a thing the red rally tiles which are not as great as the old white rally. I'm fine
It's what they have to do but just like I'm ready for October. I'm ready for October
Me too. I don't want to deal with the stressors of the end of the season. Yeah, I couldn't guess what we're going
Guess what life doesn't work like that. So sadly we're gonna, we'll be here.
Yeah, and we'll be back after the race series.
We'll keep talking to you and we'll feel our way through.
Are you gonna get us?
I don't believe I have anything.
I had nothing to begin with.
I was gonna just come on and be like, so guys got hurt.
And it was more than that.
So that was pretty good.
Nice job.
Well, we do.
That's what we do.
All right, we'll be back after the race series.
Until then, he's what we do. All right. We'll be back after the race series until that.
He's for it himself.
