Jack Fritz hanging out with you on this Friday night,
reacting to what was a
just disheartening night at Citizens Bank Park
as the Phillies lose seven two, had some opportunities,
claw back in this thing,
but ultimately could not break through
and they fall seven two after last night
which might've been the game of the year. They could not, through and they fall 7-2 after last night, which might have been the game of the year.
They could not, could not carry that momentum over into tonight as they just run into a
buzzsaw in Reynaldo Lopez, who they have really, really struggled against.
So not great tonight from the Phil.
So let's get into it all.
The game wrap up sponsored by Blaser, Swiss lube and crevice the metal working fluid specialist providing professional CNC machine cleaning
coolant maintenance programs and waste coolant disposal
Crevice dot online if you're stuck in traffic, we'd love to hear from you
Obviously another pack night down the ballpark like most nights have been this year
So if you're stuck in traffic
We'd love for you to get in and give you your take on the current state of affairs
With team which again one step forward last night a little bit of a step back tonight
Ultimately, like not a huge step back, you know, I don't leave tonight feeling too down. There's certainly been
periods in the last month and a half
Month where it's been like, oh my goodness like they they might really be done. I don't feel that way
Leaving tonight, but I do have a couple takeaways. And of course the takeaways of the game are always brought to you by Morgan & Morgan
America's a largest injury law firm and my biggest takeaway the game and I think this is obvious
I think it's been obvious for a little bit now is that it doesn't matter how many players get hurt
It doesn't matter who's in the lineup like that
Braves team is just
Never gonna go away. They're just never gonna go away. Like I I think that this division race is gonna go down to the wire
Hopefully the fillies can keep them
At arms distance, but that Braves team is just not afraid of the fillies at least in the regular season
They're not afraid of the fillies. At least in the regular season, they're not afraid of the Phillies. Postseason might be a different story,
but this team just feels confident coming in here
that they're gonna come in and do their job.
I mean, Arcia, infuriating.
Guys like Orlando Arcia is not good.
He's 100% not good.
But against the Phillies, he's killed them this year.
So listen, again, it just doesn't matter
who's in that lineup.
It just doesn't.
Those guys have confidence that they're
going to come in here, play well down there.
It feels like they always get the big hit, when they always
get the back breaking hit, when the Phillies don't need it.
And the same thing tonight.
They hit a couple home runs tonight.
They did the Braves thing.
And I think the idea that they're
going to run away with this thing
is just not going to happen.
This is going to be a tight division race.
The Phillies brought this upon themselves.
They could be up by 10 right now if they wanted to be.
They were the ones that played 500-ish for about two months
there.
They could have ended this division race.
But unfortunately, they let the Braves stick around
and the Braves, I think, feel like they have a chance
to come back and win this thing,
and they're using the whole us against the world
to rally and pull themselves out of this.
And like last night, there was a lot of talk today of,
oh, that's a death blow to the Braves.
I don't think they viewed it that way at all.
I think that they've blown four run leads
in the last little bit here, so they're used to it,
and they just bounce back and come back the next day.
So, that's probably my biggest takeaway of the night
is that if you thought last night was a kill shot
that the Braves are gonna roll over now,
it's just not happening.
They're a really, really good baseball team.
Even with those injuries, They have a strong culture
It's infuriating like they they're like the net that just doesn't go away. They you want to stop them out, but you can't
They're just there. All they do is come back. They're the worst
They're the absolute absolute worst until October and then when October happens bang
They come into CBP and turn into like a minor league ballclub. I love it, but regular season-wise they are the worst
They're the boogeyman. They always show up my second biggest takeaway the game and and this is
Really been the the theme of this slump again rotation
I'm not too concerned with that they've done their job for the most part that they've righted the ship
Obviously they put Ranger on a pitch count tonight
Maybe they leave them out there a little bit longer
Offensive has a chance to climb back in this thing, but Ranger, you know, he wasn't like unbelievable
But they're clearly ramping him back up because he never had a rehab start
So, you know first start they push him a little bit tonight. They dial him back bullpen
They put in the guys that are not really gonna be pitching in the in the big moments and it didn't go
Well, but overall I think we feel okay about the rotation and at least the top three are pitching really well Ranger
I still put in that mix as the four and then number five will get to
Bullpen I think that they have found their their footing here
the biggest question mark with this baseball team continues to be the lineup. Like the lineup is the thing that you know if you're someone you know that this team keeps you up
at night it's the offense that's keeping you up at night because we've just seen them go through
these cold spells and tonight 0 for 5 with runners in scoring position, Seven men left on base and the top of the lineup,
now Harper, good night tonight.
And we'll get into more Harper stuff as we go along here.
But again, Schwabr hasn't done much since the Grand Slam.
Turner is back into one of these prolonged funks.
And when you're not getting production out of those guys,
it just puts a lot of stress on the rest of the lineup.
Now, good to see JT go yard tonight and stock a yard.
And obviously last night with Castellanos and Marsh,
but we know that this is a lineup
that when those guys are going,
they're a much, much, much better lineup.
And it just feels like almost like a golf game.
You know, for people out there that play golf,
it's like one day your driver's unbelievable,
you're right down the fairway
Maybe even you're mixing in some good iron shots, you know 150 in the hardest shot in golf
Maybe you're hitting the green but that day you're not putting well, then there's some other days you're sinking pots
you're saving par and
You're you're spraying off the tee, and your iron game's off.
Like that's how it feels watching this fillies offense.
They feel like an amateur golfer.
Is that what they're supposed to feel like?
No, they don't wanna be an amateur golfer as an offense,
but it's like when one part's going well,
another part's not doing their job.
They just never feel like they're on the same page,
and it hasn't felt that way for about two months.
They've had moments, they've had games, but for a large portion of
this it just hasn't been there and it's the biggest thing that I think worries
me and I think worries you heading into October that they could
100% go cold again. Ultimately saying that they're gonna go cold on August 30th
is dumb. Like we have no idea. We have no idea if they're gonna go cold or not. But it's the one thing
where it's that's like that is gonna be the thing that could sink them. And if you're
placing odds on what could sink them, I think it's 100% offense number one. But speaking
of the offense, my third big takeaway of the game is we're starting to see Brandon Marsh
and Bryson Stott pull out of this thing
Obviously March of the big game last night, which was good to see going the opposite way
Using the whole field but but Scott's been pretty good here for a little bit, you know, he's in over 300
I think in his last 14 games, which is good to see like he's a really important piece this lineup getting someone in the middle
Lineup, they can always play that Segura role. I was watching
highlights of the the gene Segura game and game
In game three of the NL
CS this morning actually like a totally normal person and
like they need someone that can can put the bound the baseball like Segura did where
Like like Turner's swing and miss Schwab er swing and miss even though he's been better this year
Harper can be swing and miss Schwab or swing and miss even though he's been better this year Harper can be swinging miss bum not really
Swing and miss but still you need more than just one guy that's not gonna be swinging miss
Castellanos gets into his modes where he's swinging this Brandon Marsh is swinging miss
JT can be swinging miss Austin Hayes like they need another guy that is bad on the baseball guy
Like they need another guy that is bad on the baseball guy because again in postseason baseball
Having a lot of strikeout guys in the lineup where they are prone to it
Can sink an entire offensive which we've seen like stout has to be the guy or has to be a a cog in that lineup
That can put the bat on the baseball to where they're not having a lot of strikeout guys in a row And I think he's done a better job of that. I don't think we're seeing him strike out as much
And we're seeing him work the the counts and in classic stop fashion
So how you could hit the opposite way tonight?
I think we're starting to see him come out of this thing and getting him going with Marsh
It just makes you you'll wait on the top of the line up to get going But again, they kind of feel like a golf game right now

Take a break here and on the other side the injury report with two big things to watch for
Because you know
we got some news pregame that it's good to
watch for and a big addition to the Phil's bullpen is back we'll talk about that next
coming up on the final out of sports radio 94 WIP.

Jack Fritz hanging out with you on this Friday night.
And what is, you know, the series of the year heading into this point?
You know, this is the the division race back to five feels win last night
which is obviously good to see but like a
Split here
Take it but you're not leaving that feeling great and and knowing this team
It felt like the back of my hand. They're gonna they're gonna win tomorrow and lose Sunday and
Make everyone feel very questionable about taking a split from the Braves
But this again, it should be a series here at home. You have your your
Three best ready to go on the mound and you should go take three or four you're avoiding sale
You like go do a job and step on a throw here
But this team for a long stretch here
is just not doing that.
They're not stepping on a throat.
They're keeping the Braves around.
They're not doing their job.
And listen, they faced a stud tonight.

Like, Renato Lopez is fantastic. I mean his era is now two on the year
He missed a little bit of time if he doesn't miss that time
He might be the they saw young award winner in the NL
I mean, he's been that good and sales obviously the front runner right now with Wheeler hopefully chasing him down, but like
It's just disappointing tonight's probably the biggest
pitching disadvantage they have
in the rest of the series, but man, you know, the offenses do their thing and in a series
where again, you have a chance to really lengthen this thing and give some guys some rest, they're
not able to do it and they haven't been able to do it. So every time they win a game and
they have the game like last night they have a couple games
you know over the last couple weeks
where there's a chance to really gain momentum they they kind of give it right back
and it's it's
it is the old baseball adage that
momentum is only as good as the next day's starter and today it was Renato Lopez
and he certainly did his thing but
definitely a frustrating loss tonight with a chance to really gain momentum
After what was a super super important comeback win last night. Let's go to the phones here Scotties and Delco. What's happening Scotty?
What's going on? Pretty how are you man? Pretty good, man?
Not a disaster tonight an annoying loss, but you know ultimately it happens. I
Yeah, I think you just said it best.
I mean they took their foot off the gas. I mean you know I don't think anybody with a realistic
view on this team thought the start was you know necessarily sustainable all the way through. I
mean BOOM was on fire you know yeah the lineup was hot but it just they don't strike fear anymore.
I mean the fifth and sixth
inning I mean if you go look back and look at the the box crime I like Harper
Acasiano Schwerber just I mean they're just easy outs right now it's like I
mean Harper gets five curveballs and he's swinging over the final pitch is
it's just I mean Turner's swinging out of his shoes on the first pitch every
bat it's just I don't know they it just like lost right now and they,
they're not striking fear.
And I feel like they did that for the first two months of the season.
I mean, you know, they would go down two, three runs and,
and everybody knew the game wasn't over.
You know, tonight it's like, our CIA hits that home run in the, you know,
early in the game and then they go up two, oh, and I was there.
And it's just like, this kind of, it just felt like that was it it just it felt like they were gonna be behind
all night and battling and it's just tough I mean you know I'm not saying I
expect them to hold on to this you know that crazy start but I mean they just
don't strike fear anymore it's they they're figured out and it's gonna bite
them in October man well I think it's not getting punked by RC I'd appreciate
that I mean it's just it just getting ridiculous at this point.
I will say, listen, he hit the bomb,
and Harper did turn around and walk towards the right field.
Harper didn't even entertain it tonight.
So I was wondering if I kept an eye on it
to see if RCA tried it again.
But I think he learned his lesson.
Yeah, well, I appreciate the phone call.
And get home safely, of course.
But yeah, the RCA thing is just infuriating
You know he's he's not a very good player and for some reason it's the fillies. He just kills them
like would kill them to just
Get out to a lead here and and hold on to it
You know like would have killed them to get the four nothing lead rather than going down for nothing in back to back nights
I mean imagine that just marches and hit that home run last night and cast the house and it doesn't hit that home run
Last night. I mean this would be a disaster start
to the brave series, so yeah, it's just
it's frustrating and and the offense again like Scotty just talked about and that feels like the thing that people are gonna be worried about
Up and about up and
to and through the entire postseason run. The injury report is important tonight because
a lot of interesting factors in there. The injury report is always sponsored by the Plumbers
Union Local 690, protecting the health of the nation. Visit plumbers690.org. Alec Bohm
did not play tonight. Rob Thompson said he was dealing with some inflammation. They're gonna give him the day. We'll see if he's in the lot of tomorrow
He did not commit to it pregame
but the nice part is is that it does not seem like he is going to go on the IL where
you know, there's been some time so far this year where
You know guys are
They leave the game. I mean Trey left the game with a
hamstring injury looked like he was fine bang he's out six weeks you know you
they've had these little injuries that you know the after the game like yeah
he's fine Turnbull talked about how he felt fine bang he's done for like two
months so it was good to see at least a positive report not immediate an
immediate kind of IL stint so
Bomer obviously hopefully they can get back in the lineup tomorrow if not then hopefully Sunday but
Bryce Harper was the big one pre-game before the game Tazelecki talked to Bryce Harper Bryce said
he's battling through some elbow and wrist stuff I think we've talked about a lot on this show like I think he's dealing with a wrist injury had it taped and
You know, you've seen the power just kind of fall off a cliff here has not hit a home run since August 9th
And I think a lot of that obviously has to do with the injuries
It was good to see him hit a couple balls hard tonight. He did have three hits which is important
Hopefully he can battles way through this but that's what makes a loss
Like like tonight
Frustrating it's like if you could just extend this thing if you could win three or four
Then you can maybe think about getting him some rest because I don't
You can win the division, you know, yeah, you have to play all
162 and not get these guys rest if Bryce Harper's not 100%
You know, it's it feels like it's a wrap if Bryce Harper isn't good to go
So the Bryce Harper injuries is not great
They need to extend this lead in the division so they can start getting us from rest to make sure he is good to go
In October, I know the last two Octobers. He's headed into it with little injuries
I know the last two Octobers he's headed into it with little injuries,
but I guess little injuries is definitely
not what I meant to say.
He now had Tommy John the one year
where he was at a torn Tommy John ligament
and went off in 2022.
And then last year was recovering from Tommy John surgery.
So like, he has just been dealing with these things
with the major injuries last year. This stuff seems more nagging but
like I I
Almost feel like this is worse because it's the elbow and it's the wrist and it's little things like
He figured out a way to play through that stuff in 2022
Like I can't have this kind of stuff piling on so a step in the right direction tonight
But it's definitely something to monitor and if they can find a way extend the lead take
three or four this weekend and get him off his feet like you have to get Bryce
Harper healthy for October because if not it's gonna be an early accident he's
super super important and he's been super clutch and in a big game riser
over the last
couple years in the postseason. We all know that. We all know that. So man, really need
to get him going. Mackenzie isn't ready. Mackenzie, how are we doing tonight?
You know what? It is good to finally have a heart to heart with you.
I know. It's been a long time coming. Right so I was at the yard tonight and I
moved here from California last December finally got to see one of my silly
friends we've been talking through the bills the whole time it was a blast out
there. I know it doesn't feel good I know it doesn't feel good, I know it doesn't feel good
looking at a lot of what happened tonight,
but we know where we want this to end.
Jack?
Yes.
You've been monitoring, we're still monitoring.
We're definitely monitoring, we're monitoring, yeah.
So when you know that we're all gonna be chilling
on Broad Street, climbing poles,
and looking back on times like this fondly.
Yeah, listen, I've definitely been thinking about that more the last couple days.
And this might sound dark, but it might have been the Taiwan thing about him getting booted
at the ring ceremony where I was like, maybe this is the year.
Maybe this is the year where it ends in a parade but I really I think the good part the good part about
what's happening right now if you want to look on the on the bright side because
I do think they've mostly pulled out of it like I don't think that they are
gonna awesome crater the good part is they're going through adversity now and
hopefully this is bringing them closer like I don't think we're looking at a
club house that's pulling apart I think that this is bringing them closer. I don't think we're looking at a clubhouse that's pulling apart. I think that this is hopefully pulling them closer.
And the other thing, and it didn't work tonight,
Renato Lopez is more a fastball guy than not,
but maybe all of these teams just spamming them
with curve balls is gonna have them ready
for the postseason so they know we can hit our way
out of this by seeing curve balls.
So if I'm looking for some positives,
like I just, I feel pretty good about that stuff
and more trust in this clubhouse
and thinking that as we get closer
that they're gonna pull out
and really be in a good spot heading into October.
Yeah, and you're seeing guys like Marcy and Cassidy
not take the bait as much.
So you take a night like
tonight and look for the little things you know you you look at Marcy work
working that laid-back you look at Nick laying off some of those thinkers when
they're just spamming flyers you look at that Rojas catch so you know and and the vibes there
We're honestly pretty good like all the people around us. We're having a blast like so, you know
The city feels it we feel it and the guys out there taking care of each other
So yeah, you just take it one day at a time. That's all we can do Mackenzie
I really appreciate the phone call and good to good to finally connect with you one day at a time
Do just keep our head down.
Now, we did get big news earlier today about Jose Alvarado.
Frankly, I had no idea when Jose Alvarado was going to come back.
Because he went on a restricted list.
We've seen guys miss seven weeks.
We've seen guys miss a week.
They were very vague about it, but showed up today.
And Rob Thompson, he's probably gonna be activated
on Sunday, so Jose Avarado, again,
because of their deadline moves,
is a really, really important part of this line.
Now, it probably takes them out
of the Taylor Rogers conversation,
or the Drew Smiley conversation.
I wish it wouldn't, I would like another good arm
back there, but just feels like that is probably
the situation here, so, but just feels like that is probably the situation here.
But Jose Avarado getting back is obviously really big and maybe the time off cleared
his mind, whatever happened, maybe we don't know what these guys are dealing with, obviously.
So maybe we can get a good version of Jose Avarado back.
He did have a good outing his last time against the Royals.
It was a super low leverage spot, but, we're just looking for for positives here from Jose Everato
but either way it was good to see him back and and back in the fold because
They feel a little bit of a lefty short with with strong and Tanner Banks and you know
They could use another guy out there but good to see Jose Everato back in the fold two one five five nine two
Ninety four ninety four get get your phone calls coming up
Next but we will also get to a look at tomorrow the play of the game plus an option
That could eventually take Taiwan's place in the rotation. He had himself a night
Who is it and what did he do?
We'll get to that coming up next on the final out on sports radio 94 WIBA. Obviously, you don't like that. I don't know, maybe it's the Friday of heading into a long weekend, but I'm not super down.
I'm really glad they took game one and then they're in a pretty good spot the next two nights.
I guess I almost headed into the night being like, wow, Renato Lopez really has their number,
and I hope Ranger can look pretty good.
And Ranger, you know, he missed some pitches.
He wasn't as sharp
maybe striking out five of the first six batters was the best thing for him but
he also was on a pitch count and had he been able to stay in the game and you
know they pushed him maybe the offense can stay in it and come back but
ultimately they deal with Orlando RC is nonsense and hit two home runs tonight
his second multi home run game of his career.
And of course, it happened against the Phillies.
The second home run of the game, I'm not playing it.
I'm not playing the audio.
Don't care.
The second home run of the game is the play of the game,
sponsored by Mike's Amazing, the official mayo and mustard
of the Phillies.
We have some thoughts here on a possible tie line replacement
and a look at it tomorrow.
But I have to take this call from Rich in Sellersville who says I want
to put push Jack off the bridge and follow him. Rich, what are you talking about buddy?
Well you were on the ledge and I think it's proper to be on the ledge because I think
they are going to fall and like how am I taking the plunge you know you're not gonna get hurt
it's yes a c you know you don't have much faith in the ball club rich
no i don't
with the main reason
because
they're just sloppy i
do not like
carter at short
i was talking to my mother last night my birthday and as we
were talking Katianos hit that home run I said he was the best hitter for the
last month and I didn't even know what he did that they had two home runs last
night that was only runs mm-hmm They should have lost that game Well, I mean the brave scored four runs and three of them were on home runs. So they should have scored one
Well our top three hitters are not producing
You're right. Do you think that's gonna happen the whole rest of the year?
And I think boom you should have never did that home run derby probably used up all his wrist
Muscles, so you think that the home run derby that happened a month and a half ago
Contributed to last night. Yeah, it's the old omen right
I'm what about when Ryan Howard wanted in 06 and then one MVP. So was that a bad?
You know I'm saying? I'm just trying to be a
little funny. No I know it's all good buddy it's all good I appreciate the phone call it's a Friday
night it's a Friday night we took a shot but yeah listen I get it I think the offense is the thing
that's keeping people up at night at the same time though it's like I don't believe that those three and when Bohm is back, those four,
again I outlined this last night, but between Turner, Harper and Bohm, they have five home
runs in all of August.
I just don't think that's sustainable for a deep postseason run.
Those guys have to hit the ball at the ballpark at some point.
I don't need Turner trying for it, but he needs to be better than he is boom
But we know he's not gonna really go for it. You know, it's really Harper but like I
Just don't believe that this is what they're gonna also be for the rest of the year
like I think there's there's
Obviously better ball in all four of those guys and the good part is if you want to look at this again on the bright side
He's atie Austin really good, JT swinging a better bat, Marsh swinging a better bat,
Stott swinging a better bat, if you want to go Rojas, he's swinging a better bat, like
the rest of the lineup doing their job.
You need those three though and those four to really make this thing feel like the lineup
that they could be.
Now it seems like Tyler Phillips is gonna start Tuesday
in Toronto, obviously it was not great.
By the end of his last three starts here,
were not the best work, but there is another option.
Now, he might be on a pitch count, they're monitoring it,
obviously coming up with Tommy John,
but they trade for a guy at the deadline.
They trade Gregory Soto for Seth Johnson and Moises Chasse. Chasse has been unbelievable, you know like down in the lower minor leagues
He's not ready yet, but Seth Johnson's close. He's 25 years old. He
Was good again tonight up in Lehigh Valley six six innings five caves one hit one walk
The walk number matters a lot to me. They're doing the the the IBS system
Or the ABS system up in in in Lehigh Valley in minor league baseball
So I think it's a the word is it's a tighter strike zone. So one walk is is significant for me and
They've kind of just got him to another level since since coming over from from Baltimore Baltimore's pitching
Got him to another level since since coming over from from Baltimore Baltimore's pitching
Factory or or their their pitching development a little bit behind Phillies actually pretty good
So they've got a good amount of you know, they've gotten some good work as that Johnson and obviously being older
Being more seasoned. He should be ready for this. I know about the Tommy John
But of all the options down there, he's in tree they able allowed five earned last night. So I don't think he's ready Colby Allard again
I think of the three he's the one that's gonna get the the bulk of these starts again
It's pretty much just five starts left
So it's not the end of the world and Taiwan's gonna be buried in the bullpen
But so Johnson someone to monitor here if they if they need a guy Tyler Phillips comes up on
Tuesday and it doesn't go well Colby Allen can't come up until September 10th
Maybe maybe we see what's that Johnson can do because he's been pretty good up in up in Lehigh Valley since the trade
He had like one start in Reading before going up
But yeah, you see he did some things tonight six innings five caves one hit one walk something to monitor tomorrow a nationally televised game the next two
Both nationally televised so I feel like they never win when they are nationally televised
But here's hoping that is not the case this time around Saturday tomorrow on Fox Max Friede
Versus Zach's was Zach Wheeler. Wheeler's been really good the last couple starts
Looks like his stuff starting to tick up a little bit heading into the postseason where we know iseler Wheeler's been really good the last couple starts looks like his stuff starting to
Take up a little bit heading into the postseason where we know is that Wheeler has been nails
For this fill a team of Max Fried dominated in the the Phil's his last time out
They have made adjustments on curve balls
So maybe this time they are more ready to go against Max Fried
But either way should be a fun weekend of baseball
Also a stressful weekend of baseball would have loved to win tonight and make it
a little bit less stressful, but
Nevertheless here we are so big weekend of baseball ahead before and off day on Monday on Labor Day and
Against the Blue Jays next week. So enjoy hope they
Do what they should do and and take these next two and then three or four
Lengthen out this lead in the NL East and get Bryce Harper some rest.
That is priority number one. Either way, that's gonna do it for me Justin D'Orazio, I produced the program tonight.
Rob Cherry!
