Well, there's certainly a lot to react to tonight on the final out
Welcome on in Jack Fritz hanging out with you here on this Tuesday night as the Phil's go down in
pretty sloppy fashion
As the Fills go down in pretty sloppy fashion
The right fielder and the manager are at odds. So war which side are you on team Thompson team?
Team Cassie honest will get into it all
Here on the final out the game wrap-up sponsored by Roto Router when plumbing problems hit wrap them up quicker and call Roto Router
Their team tackles clogs and leaks so you can stay in the game Roto router your MVP
for plumbing solutions two one five five night two
94 94 to get in react to everything that happened in Philly's land today
Escalated pretty quickly out of nowhere to to ultimately a
really just fascinating time
For where we are at with this baseball team two one five five nine two
Ninety four ninety four to get in the biggest takeaways the game brought to you by Morgan and Morgan
America's largest injury law firm before we get this and some thoughts on
Castellanos here
the game tonight, just sloppy all around.
It started with Lazardo who did not have great stuff tonight. Tonight I would say was not
a case of tipping pitches. What I hope tonight was he was returning to Miami, place he grew
up, team he pitched for, was looking to send a message maybe a little too overhyped and it resulted in four walks four earned runs the inherited runners came in with when
Tanner Banks came into the ballgame and ultimately not what you're looking for
he threw over a hundred pitches and was not super efficient they fell off a lot
of a lot of Lazardo pitches he was not know, in the strike zone, didn't get a ton of swinging
miss. So a step back after what his last start was obviously really good. And the two before
that obviously, you know, brutal. These starts do happen. You know, I don't think this is,
you know, hit the panic button. This is not like the, the Brew and The other starting there this is not this is not to me like that
It was just a night that Lazardo was was off. So blue J start but
Either way he was sloppy the base running in the fifth was sloppy Rojas went to second with no outs
Just being over aggressive for no real reason Marsh
didn't tag up even though looked like Dusty was sending him there but you know
Marsh decided not to go home on that luckily didn't come back to bite him
Schwab was able to to get a job done and they brought the run home anyway to
give themselves a nice 3-2 lead and then Kepler loses the ball in the lights.
And I can already feel the phone lines lighting up.
Oh, Cassianos catches that guy.
I mean, even if he does, whatever.
He lost the ball in the lights.
It does happen.
Kepler is a very good defensive outfielder that that wasn't his best moment.
Cassianos, by all the metrics, has been the worst defensive outfielder in baseball.
And that is the reason why last night
he was removed from the game.
And let's get into the Gassianos situation.
Overall, this is a really fascinating time for a move like that for a decision like that.
Pretty ballsy by Rob Thompson to do that.
And I try to look at it from both angles.
On the logical side, it is a 3-1 ball game in a huge stadium down in Miami.
You have a chance to get Kepler who's a really good defensive, by the way, a more natural
right fielder, even though it didn't look like it tonight.
Rojas in center, Martian left, a really good defensive outfield unit.
Castellanos just batted by all the metrics.
He's been the worst defensive outfitter in baseball this year
that is a logical move now
I think what chapped Castee is that Thompson hasn't really done this before
This is not something that he's done. He has pulled Schwab er in tie games for a pinch runner
he hasn't pulled Cassianos or really anybody unless it's a a blowout or they're getting blown out and
If we know Cassianos like I think that we know Cassianos he is someone that is a I guess
Honor guy someone that you know, you respect the veteran
he's been in the league for a long time and to do that,
maybe he viewed that as Rob Thompson showing him up and saying,
you don't deserve to be out there late in the game because you're a liability.
Clearly Cassianos is very sensitive about his defense. That is bar none.
100%. That is something I think we have learned
today and over the last couple of days got a little testy when asked about his defense to reporters
in the locker room. So I guess that would be the side of of Castee being annoyed at Rob Thompson. Now, what I find interesting is Rob Thompson
didn't make the decision last night,
he slept on it and then came in and made the decision.
That's not a minor decision.
And I know that Castianos is a replacement level player
and he's been an average player since he's been here
I think if you wanted to go by strictly
Analytics he has been a more negative player since he's gotten here if you want to go by eye tests
I think he's been fine. He hasn't been overwhelming. He hasn't been a disaster. There's been times where he's a disaster
I think for the most part he's been a net zero
Yeah, I think he's been the defense is pretty brutal offense is fine
Whatever, but at the same time the guy had played
236 straight games and he's a ten-year vet. He is one of the leaders on this on this club
What he said must have been pretty bad
for Rob Thompson to a make it public and be
Do that to a guy who every account that we have of him and Thompson get along very well
So it must have been pretty bad. Obviously the first thing that was assumed
Was that he said something personal to Rob Thompson and that's
That that could have happened that could have happened
he also could have said something about a teammate and
If that's the case
Then I totally get it because you can't have in
You can't let your pride
Get in the way of of being a good teammate in that situation.
So it is really fascinating.
And on top of all of this, the Phillies have been playing really good baseball.
They had rebounded from the Bryce Harper injury and ride the ship.
And we'll see when he gets back but
This thing's not cratering this thing's not falling apart. This isn't this isn't a rudderless ship
But there's some there could be some choppy waters here and to do that when a team is playing as well as they are
It had to be pretty bad
But then again, I think Thompson would have known that last night
and he still slept on it and came in and made the decision.
What I also found interesting as we stream of conscious our way through this thing
is that Castellanos wasn't remorseful.
And I don't think he was remorseful.
He wasn't like, hey, you know, I said something I shouldn't have.
I understand Thompson's decision. He wasn't like, hey, you know, I said something I shouldn't have.
I understand Thompson's decision.
He's the manager and I gotta understand that better.
His thing was more, it happened, he's manager,
it's his decision.
The way it read, the way it seemed is that it was not,
hey, that's my bad
That's my bad and I don't I don't love that
Because I know that we can all say they're past it. They're past it. They're past it. Well, he doesn't sound past it
He doesn't sound like hey, that's a manager's call
He sounds still chapped about it and I I've been thinking a lot Well, I thought a lot when it happened about you know, the famous benchings
around here and a lot of it comes back to Rollins and whenever Rollins got benched
He understood it if you if you read the quotes from around that time
it was yeah, I was mad at the moment, but hey, I know Charlie's rules and
That's like getting mad at he said something like that's getting mad at the teacher for breaking their
rules. But you like, you know, you get the point. It's a horrible analogy.
Why did he let me talk on the radio? But you know,
Rollins his whole point was basically like, he has a couple of rules.
I broke one of them. What am I supposed to get mad about? He only has three rules.
And obviously they're not as defined under Rob Thompson. We don't know them. We knew Trotters rules blah blah blah, but the fact that
That Cassianos didn't sound
anything like
It's on me. I got to be better
That doesn't sound like a player that's that that's totally over it
And I think there's only two courses of action with Cassianos or two ways. This is gonna go. One, he's going to go on fire and get hot and be angry
and go on a run here.
Would be great.
Or the other, which I think is on the table,
is this totally backfires and you lose Castellanos.
Or he goes into a tailspin.
Or he's moody in the in the clubhouse.
It's a really,
really fascinating situation and certainly didn't love the way they played
tonight after in the aftermath of whatever happened with Castellanos and Rob
Thompson. Certainly didn't look locked in, didn't look ready to go,
looked like they were playing with a bit of malaise and then maybe a little bit thrown off that, hey,
you know, one of our guys is being made an example of and we're not, no one really knows what's
going on. I'm sure they talked about it. I'm sure that that is making a mountain out of a mole hill
buzz. But. Excellent work. Thank you.
But didn't love the response from the boys tonight
because it was not a locked in effort.
There is a lot of angles to the Castellanos situation.
Let's get to your takes.
215-592-9494.
Travis is in California.
What's happening Travis?
Travis, what's happening man?
I don't really know exactly how I feel about the Castellanos stuff.
I kind of, it's hard for me to judge when I don't know what was said.
I'm kind of with you, like I'm just curious whether he said something personal to Rob
or if he said something about a player like, I don't know, like for example, like why the
hell is he out there and I'm not? is her loss going in the game or something like
that yeah something like that I'm not sure but I'm more just frustrated with
the way they played tonight I mean I know they can't win every game but they
just I don't know I just don't know how I'm supposed to feel with this team like
some nights they go out there and they look amazing and I'm like all right
they're back and then like the next day they just like they no show against like talcantra like
and I'm just like, I don't know what team like on the nightly basis I don't know what
team is going to show up and I feel like by now it's basically been the same core for
like four years. Like by now we should kind of know what they are and I feel like every
night it's like, but don't we kind of know what they are They're they're a good baseball team. I mean yeah, yeah, so I don't know
I and I and I understand that and I feel you I really do
But I also just think that there's some nights we have an off night
I don't know like they've they've been on a good stretch here. They just went through a horrible stretch before that and
It's probably gonna even out the end of the year and they'll be over 90 wins. I don't know, man. It's super tough. It's the baseball.
Just real quick, I also wanted to ask you. Sure.
What are you thinking about Bryson Stott? I am just...
I'm getting so... He's just swinging like a freaking telephone pole up there, and I'm
like... I don't understand like the whole excuse last year was
Like oh, it's his elbow issue or whatever. Yeah, he'll be fine this year and we're thinking okay, maybe he'll bounce back
We'll give him a shot and it's been the same freaking thing dude. And then last night he
Hyper extends his elbow whatever the case may be and I'm like, oh great here they go
They're already kind of freaking talk about the injury all over there's the excuse
Exactly, but I'm just like, yeah Talk about the injury all over again. There's the excuse. There's the excuse. Exactly.
There's the excuse.
Yeah.
I know his defense is elite so it kind of sucks because I feel like because of that
there's no way they take him out of the lineup every day.
But his offense is just so brutal every night and I just don't know.
I don't know.
I don't really know how they improve because I feel like there's no way they let him go
with Bryce being his buddy and his defense and all that stuff.
I just – what do you think we could do there? Yeah, and I appreciate the phone call Travis
Yeah, I mean stops down to 181 since May 1st
Which is excruciating and he looks every bit of it when when you watch and play it's a lot of weak contact now
Last night he smoked the ball, which is good. He hit a ball pretty well late in this one
So at least it was not a weak pop up to the left side, but he's got he's got to start producing now
He does play lead defensive second base
I wonder if if when Bryce is back and camp is still hitting now. He hasn't been great down in Miami. He's
Do they do something there with a little Kemp
Kemp stop platoon at second base obviously Sosa has been doing that job for a little bit Do they think Kemp gives them more offensively he could definitely play left. He could stand in left
You don't know how great he's gonna be out there, but you know a little camp Kepler
I don't know, but we'll have some more thoughts On the stop situation as we go throughout the night
All right on the side your thoughts on the castiano situation and the game tonight
But also the pitch count the player of the game and some positives and negatives from the game tonight

Welcome back. It is the final out. Sports Radio 94 WIP. Jack Fritz hanging out with you
here on Sports Radio 94 WIP. All right. So the Cassianos thing, then we'll get to everything else from the night. If he's really that upset, I feel like I didn't say what I thought was right or wrong.
I was kind of just trying to piece the whole thing together because again, I think it is
fascinating.
I mean, I'm 100% on Thompson's side.
You're really getting that worked up
over a defensive replacement.
You are a $100-plus million player
who has, for the most part, underachieved in your time
here, and at the same time has graded out horribly defensively.
What do you want him to do? What if you out there cost them the game?
I just, at some point, I think what it really was is that his pride took a hit.
Because again, not something he's traditionally done.
Now, does Thompson maybe want to communicate that and avoid
the situation?
Sure.
But also, let's be professionals here. I mean, let's, Kyle
Schwaber gets up that a games for faster runners. Does he get all worked up about it? No. So
I, I on one hand, I'm happy that Rob Thompson did that and showed that it is still his clubhouse and that he's gonna do what he thinks is right and
it's on players to
Wake up and understand that
the the players got to just
Be a little bit more professional in that situation. So
Again, we may never find out what he said. My only hope is that this is not something that really hurts the team.
Or turns into a... well, it's not gonna turn into a...
Eh, I don't think it's gonna turn into a Rafael Devere situation where they gotta just salivary dump him, but man...
Tomorrow night's game becomes even more fascinating You know, he's gonna be going he's gonna be back in there. How does he play? Does he go off?
Does he go into a tailspin? What's their energy like?
They said that it's over they're past it again

first off his check swing he he went and then he rips a ball into the gap and
Gives them Arlen's the lead and then he has a nice catch in the ninth even though the game was was over
He is he he hit a single up the middle last night.
You would have thought it was to win the World Series.
Already found a new thorn in our side with the Marlins, with the Sunoa kid.
Rich is in Ridley. What's happening Rich?
What's going on Jack? I just got walked off the field in your old stopping grounds.
Oh nice. I was at Kelly Sports Complex playing some softball. what's going on jack i just uh... i got walked off the field in your old stopping grounds uh... kelly kelly sports complex with so far
uh... nice to talk to talk seven then i think
uh... we actually went to extras i walked off in the eight by good old
uh... square part
uh... high side i heard that her there a machine this year
a total heartbreaker i mean they can spray it man
that's what they said about square bar for years
Yeah, they know they know how to play the game
Yeah, they spread there. All right, so my thing with the phillies, um
so
In all sports baseball, especially I feel as though, you know right or wrong jack being good
Just isn't good enough. You play 162 games, you can sit back and say,
well, yeah, they'll win 90 games. You got Zach Wheeler, you got Bryce Harper, you got
PowerScore. We're right. But when you consider what makes up the NL East, what makes up the
NL West, how they do fall apart, you know, they won one playoff game last year. They
won one game. Like they can't just be good. They need to be better than good. They need to beat the Marlins
They need to you know sweep these kinds of teams at home, you know, they need to be better than good
right, but also like
It's June like what it what do you want to do?
They like they have to go out there and win every single game like I understand your point
But also they've been playing good baseball they had a bad game tonight I don't know I don't
know what you want me to do like is there is there a flawless of course they
need a real bullpen arm at the trade deadline they need a real bat but also
we can't just fluctuate and be like they lost game of the Marlins there they are
they're frauds because I don't I don't believe that either I think they I think
they lost a baseball I think they are one of the fivelins there they are they're frauds because I don't I don't believe that either I think they I think they lost the baseball I think they are
one of the five best teams in the National League I don't think they're too
far behind the the best teams and I don't think they're I think they're all
right in that same mix and hopefully they're playing the right kind of
baseball all the time that we needed to play I see what you're saying but given
you know yes like I don't mean to make it just dialing
in on one June loss here, but let's, you know, what we've been talking about, uh, this Castellanos
thing, the excuses, Bones, you know, the way Bones can be like, is that really what makes
a team that's going to last in, you know, the mid to late September, October. I feel like we're falling back to 2022 too much.
That happened. We caught lightning in a bottle and ever since then we just think they're better
than they are. They're not bad. I'm not saying they're bad and they are good, but I don't think
they're better. I don't think they're as good as we think they are. But I don't think people think they're that good. I mean, what, what do you,
like I don't think everyone's sending that.
We think they're a given it's going to happen because of XYZ playoffs team.
I just don't think that's the case. I even said it last year,
but my buddy Dave Clay, you know, they're going to play these Mets,
they're going to play these Mets.
They're going to lose the series three games to one.
Yeah. I didn't think they were going to win the Mets. They're gonna play these Mets. They're gonna lose the series three games to one Yeah, I didn't think they were in the Mets series either. I
Just don't I
Don't have high hopes right now Jack. I need your help. All right. All right. I appreciate it I mean, I'm not sitting here saying I think they're I think this is where it gets all
Convoluted I guess like I'm not sitting here saying I think they're the best team
in baseball. No. I think they're one of the best teams in baseball. I think they're one
of the better teams in baseball. I think that sometimes we just get so fixated on our own
team that we don't see the flaws of other teams. I mean the Mets are super banged up
right now. We'll see how this weekend goes.
It's a good show me series.
They've also won a good amount of games here
with Bryce not in lineup.
And I understand now everyone thinks
is Bryce is just a replacement level player.
I've seen the top 11 lists.
You know.
We'll see how they're playing.
It's June 17th. they've had a good little
stretch here tonight was sloppy
cast-in-house thing is interesting
but i don't think anyone you're not hearing a lot of people pounding their
chest about how good they think the Phillies are i think everyone's kind of in the
same boat
that they're good and and hopefully that at the right time they'll they'll turn it
on now
the
well and turning on baseball's kind of a stupid point anyway because in 2022 they were horrible down the stretch
And then they got it and got hot I did
It's baseball the pitch count is brought to you by the plumbers union local 690
protecting the health of the nation visit plumber 690 org 103 pitches for
Hey Zeus, Los Arda tonight, and he certainly had to work for it.
I mean, four walks, only four strikeouts.
He wasn't, I felt like his command was just off on all the
secondary pitches, couldn't get a feel for that.
I couldn't tell if maybe he's a little amped up being back in
his hometown trying to stick it to the Marlins,
but either way it was a,
it was a Lazardo start that we'd seen
From the old hazes Lazardo not the one we'd seen before the the two bad game stretch again
I didn't think tonight was a case of any tipping or anything like that
I just don't think he had it now some some other positives tonight and again a
Negative but positive. I think Kepler is continuing to look
Okay, I don't obviously want him batting fourth,
but you're starting to see,
I think he's got like a seven game hitting streak right now.
Looks more balanced at the plate.
Marsh, I've been really impressed with recently.
Had a big hit to left center field tonight,
and is again, putting together some pretty good at bats here.
He struck out late on the slider,
but it was also a good pitch.
But from the nine hole with what he's doing right now,
I think you take it.
And he's definitely not the best center fielder defensively.
But at least what he's doing offensively
is starting to make up a little bit for it.
Trey, again, has just been a monster.
Hits the home run, gets a hit late.
He just looks like he's in cruise control right now.
And this is the Trey Turner that they signed.
He's probably not going to start the All-Star game.
I hope he makes the All-Star game because he deserves it.
For all talk of Francis Gullandor, I, Trey's got a higher OPS right now.
Hit for a higher average.
Might be time for a conversation.
And obviously the negative.
Bryson's got 188 since May 1st and looks the part.
I mean, it has looked that way.
So it's a total bummer what's good
what's going on with Stott. I feel like it hasn't you definitely noticed it but I
guess with Marsh looking better at the plate, Bum looking better at the plate,
Kapler even JT you can kind of survive especially with the level of defense he
plays but man it does it looks like he is swinging a pool noodle right now.
So, stop 188 since May 1st.
That is not good enough.
On the other side, a look ahead to tomorrow before we hand things off to TK and his new
show open.
Everyone's looking forward to it.
A dynamic, dynamic show open.
So we will finish out the final out and hand things off to
TK coming up next on Sports Radio 94 WIP.
Welcome back.
It is the final out, Sports Radio 94 WIP.
Jack Fritz hanging out with you on an interesting night in
Philly's land.
We haven't had this in a while.
It's been pretty harmonious down in that clubhouse since
Rob Thompson has taken over.
You haven't had really any public disputes.
You haven't had really any situations
like this, Cassie, on this one.
No tough conversations.
No tough conversations.
No, no Segora versus Gerardi in the dugout.
No, you know, it's been pretty smooth sailing. It's the first
kind of rocky waters here for them. So again, we'll see how they handle it. We'll see how
Cassianos handles it. I think that's the interesting part. Because I think Thompson's pretty over
it. He made it clear. He didn't want to talk about it. I thought it was good. The couple
times I heard him talk, he talked about
how much he loves Gassianos and loves the fire he plays with, but then also ended his
236 consecutive game-started streak for comments. So again, it's going to be one to monitor.
My guy Dave in Maryland sneaks in under the wire again.
What's happening, Dave?
Hey, Jack.
As far as the game goes tonight, I think it's a loss.
The disturbing part, and I think what
you have to look at at the trade deadline,
is what the bullpen hasn't been able to do
in these types of games is keep it close where you can mount
a comeback, possibly.
That's where this team's lacking when it comes to the regular season, but just giving the
offense a chance, it went from 3-2 to 8-2 pretty quick and the game was over.
As far as the Castellanos thing, I think he's been taken out a couple times this has happened before where Kepler's moved to right
Late in the game. Yeah, but it was more it was more in blowouts though. Yeah, it was more in blowouts
So and I had to run out there
Do you think it has something to do with it being in Miami family friends? They're coming out
So like he's very prideful in that in that respect
Yeah, so I brought that up earlier and I and I thought about it from that standpoint, but it was the a thing
I mean, yeah, and also he's a ten plus year vets. I mean, yeah, like I don't know
It's that is the inning and a half and he's not in the outfield gonna make that big of a difference
Yeah, you just and I'm glad you know Thompson nipped it in the bud
like you got to nip that stuff in the butt
but you know you like
it just wonder if it causes any ripple as far as other players and those types of things but hopefully they saw how he
handled him and
You know if you handle him that way
You're gonna handle everyone that way. So
Yeah, I don't know. It'd be interesting to see how it plays out, how, you know,
it does, does he come on and have two hits tomorrow night and everything's,
you know, back to normal or does he, he can, he can,
he's such a, uh, you know, kind of player where it could go,
it could go either extreme. Oh yeah. Yeah. And he could get Mopi and,
and I appreciate the phone call. Yeah. I, I,
I think my gut tells me he's going to get like motivated.
I guess maybe that's my, my hopeful gut, but yeah,
I don't really know. But on the bullpen, yeah,
that's been something that's cause the tough part about managing a bullpen and
everyone wants him to throw all their best relievers every single night.
Doesn't happen When you go down
It's not unless they haven't pitched in a while. You're not gonna put your best guys out there, but
Where this bullpen is when you go down?
You know last year they had essentially two different bullpens that you felt pretty good about they had the one night where you can go
Hoffman,
Alvarado to close out a game.
The other night you would have Kerkering and Strom
and then you had other guys mixed in there
that were doing pretty well.
Eventually they added Estevez.
Obviously the bullpen last year,
outside of the course in the playoffs was really good
But this year when they go down, it's like alright Well, here's Joe Ross and and here's Tanner Banks and here's
These guys who who should be at the back end of the bullpen not in a 3-2 game or a game that they're
Only up by one. So yeah, that's a big thing now
I think it can be fixed in the second half, I think they're gonna go
and get a bullpen arm.
And then one of these starters are gonna go
with the bullpen.
Maybe it's Lizardo if he can't right the ship here.
But that is certainly one of the things
plaguing them right now.
Now one guy who has not plagued them
and one guy who's been great is Ranger Suarez
who is on the mound tomorrow.
We don't know who is starting for the Marlins yet, but Ranger on the mound for the Phillies.
He's been just brilliant and really looking at the Ranger that we saw in the first half,
the first 10 starts of last year.
Hopefully he can hold up.
I think that's the biggest question with Ranger.
We're all rangered up right now, which is great.
I'm rangered up too, but we know that he has worn down
and seasons have gone on. Can he hold it up in a contract year? That will,
uh, that will be one to certainly look out for. That's going to do it for me.
