0-2 pitch, swing and a miss, struck him out and the Phillies open the series in
Miami with a 5-2 win tonight
It's their fifth win in a row and for the Phillies their longest winning streak
Going back to the middle of May as the Phillies keep it rolling here to start September a 5-2 victory tonight
Five in a row for the fight ins welcome on in it is the final out sponsored by Regency Furniture
affordable never looked so good Jack Fritz hanging out with you on this Thursday night again here on
the final out which listen when things were getting shaky here I think that we can we can boil us down
to one thing I was off the final out for a good portion of that they went to the West Coast I was on vacation you know now
that we've settled back into doing the final out again it feels like this whole
thing is has just gotten right back to where we needed them to be and they went
out put together a professional win tonight and came out with again their
fifth straight win and they have

to get in and react to this one. Listen, I know there's people out there
you're watching the football game. But at the same time
we gotta react to a Phil's win tonight
so cheese ravens and a little bit of a delay
but Phil's have won five in a row
and when you call in tonight, just a special
request for me
Is he got to let you know
Tell justin morgan stein to keep his head up back there and then and tell him that you you appreciate his work
My man is grinding tonight. He'll be here until 6 a.m. 6 a.m. He's already at six
So just just you know when he call in let justin morgan ste sign know that you support him and and and
Help him through this night because it's a big one
But it's time to get to the biggest takeaway the game brought to you by Morgan and Morgan
America's a largest injury law firm in like we kind of talked about right there
I actually I think I had the same thing written yesterday, but it's how I felt today a
professional win
very much like the first half like the Phillies came in to Miami a place where they said there was 9,000 people there I
Mean, I'm not sure there was 9,000 people there said there was 9,000 people there
I would say half of them if not more were Phillies fans
It's a place where it's hard to create your own energy
But you have to if you're gonna win and they just went out and they took care of business the Marlins stink
But the Phillies have played down to opponents during when they really struggled here recently now
I had the opponents been as bad as the Marlins
No
the Marlins came to town and they most took care of business besides that Tuesday night where it felt like the season had
really hit rock bottom but
like it was just a
professional like
Workmen like come out take care of business. Don't let them breathe and get out of there with a stress-free
Five to win like you take that but dominant starting pitching. I thought Ranger was really good
Much better than his last start. They're extending a little bit but not over
working him Thompson mentioned post game a little bit of dead arm which is why
maybe the velocity was down a little bit but I never just worry about Ranger with
velocity because he's not a big velocity guy anyway I thought he was just solid
in the strike zone tonight generating soft soft contact and did his thing.
That's a lineup you don't have to go strike out 13.
That's a lineup that you wanna just put the ball in play.
They don't really have guys that can kill ya.
I mean, Jesus Sanchez didn't even play tonight
until a pinch hitting appearance late.
And he's a guy that hits home runs.
Jake Berger has the most home runs in the NL
in the second half but
like besides him no one can kill you so throw strikes pitch to contact and let
your offense kind of do their thing bullpen did their job I got some more
thoughts on the bullpen here in a second and the the offense wasn't all home runs
I know that's everyone's main concern is you can't win in October by just hitting
home runs and like I likeeltzer and I talked about
on High Hopes earlier today, and by the way,
if you're looking for more affiliates conversation,
me and James Seltzer host the podcast, High Hopes.
You can get it wherever you get your podcasts.
But this whole narrative out there about how,
whenever they hit a home run, it's bad,
it's just we've gone too far with it.
There has to be a mixture of both, I totally agree,
but they also have to hit home runs.
And yesterday, they scored all the runs
by hitting home runs.
Today, they only scored one and it was a solo shot.
They scored in other ways.
So it has to be a mixture.
I don't think he can be y'all home runner boss,
but I do think the home run is really, really important.
Now my second biggest takeaway of the game game and it's something that is a negative
offensively and it's something that I hope that they can
Rectify and and start getting back in the right direction like they were doing in the first half when they were really good in this
Category is their runners in scoring position
numbers so three for eleven tonight
They're four for 26 in Toronto and that makes that seven for 37 with runners in scoring position
They're last three games like that game one Toronto or Schwab went went nuclear
I mean that easily could have been a 20 run effort. They they hammered the baseball that night
They could not get the big hit to kind of break through
Yesterday not so much the case and tonight. I mean again, they could have won by by way more tonight
So of all the things offensively that are looking pretty good
The runners in scoring position thing is something that has to get a little bit better. You have to get those those clutches
again when when
When you have momentum take advantage of that
They've been getting away with it because they've been plaguing some bad opponents the last two nights or last two series
Blue Jays aren't great marlins
Obviously are just dreadful. It's so funny
It's like whenever the marlins make the playoffs they all they blow it up immediately
And they're back to being like the worst team in baseball made in 2020 horrible for a couple years made it last year horrible
We all know about 97. We all know about oh three
We all know about having jing car Christian Yellage Marcelo Zuna
JT real muto and then blowing that whole core up as well
So no one better at the third down in the Marlins and holy cow
I mean no wonder there's no one in the ballpark, but the runners in scoring position things definitely important now
I do think the offense did a good job against Ollard tonight. I mean he walked five
He had a grind his way through it.
This offense is at its best when it's grinding pitchers.
And Tuesday night again, I was very excited about Schwaber, but I think the Cody Clements
at bat was the thing that made me the most excited.
11 pitch at bat followed by an 8 pitch at bat.
I thought they'd worked some good counts yesterday.
There's been some good things happening offensively that haven't led to a lot of runs yet
and I just hope that the the runners in scoring position number is one that can can increase as
As they head into the stretch run here and into October two one five five nine two
94 94 the final takeaway and then we'll get to the phones here is
To two bullpen guys. I want to highlight
Tonight made eight straight
scoreless appearances for a Ryan Kirk ring, I think it's interesting he's talked about changing his position on the mound and
Allowing that slide allowing that sweeper to not start out of the zone
But start in the zone and then get out of the zone rather than just like pretty much being a ball at a hand
And it's really helped, You know, he's also
Done some tinkering with that fastball when he first came up and he was throwing 99 to 100 with this fastball
Very flat very flat. He's taken a little bit off
Velocity wise he's more 96 97
But what he's added is some real run on a sinker to get guys off the barrel and you're starting to see I mean
He dotted a 2-2 sinker. That was like 97 away tonight to a righty. It's a big pitch
He's got to have that pitch but he is just continuing to progress along nicely here and giving them another
Righty option out of the bullpen they can go to he's probably their
Second most reliable righty right now, you know, I mean, I think Estevez is in there.
Hoffman's obviously the best,
but Estevez and Kirk Ring are close.
I give the edge to Estevez right now.
I actually think that he's progressing along nicely as well.
I don't know this for a fact,
but it looks like by my naked eye
that Caleb Cotham has worked on
adding some depth to his slider.
You know, it was kind of a cement mixer when he came over here.
But he's added some depth to it, maybe dropped a little bit velocity-wise, but
adding some difference between his fastball and his slider.
So, but Kirkering again developing nicely.
And a guy who, he got a pretty big-ish spot tonight.
It's the Marlins, so it's not the traditional 2-3-4
but Jose Ruiz mowed down the top of the the Marlins lineup tonight and he's only
allowed two earned in his last 17 games. Now there haven't been the most high
lever spots. He's had some he's mixed in but it's sort of Soto-ish before
obviously Soto was was given those high leverage spots now Jose Ruiz is
Man it I want to believe because I think the stuff's good
I definitely do believe I do trust him when he has a lead to do a job still not sure
I'm ready for high leverage Jose Ruiz, but stuff's playing man
And the fastball is is is definitely taking a step up here
So exciting stuff out of the Phillies bullpen the night strong very easy knife good to see didn't need a high stress match
Drumming I thought frankly I thought Rob Thompson was was just getting a little cocky in the middle of this one
He went he went Hozer weas and then he went max Lazar
Which I think he was trying to maybe get two out of, but he didn't. But it was a pretty cocky Rob Thompson for the out of that one run to
make a save situation. Um, but either way, good job by the bullpen tonight.
Let's go to the phones here. Bobby in Buckingham. What's happening, Bobby?
What's up, Jackie baseball? Uh, real quick before I get into my Phillies point,
I tried to call
earlier I got tickets for Creed in Atlantic City Saturday night. You got tickets for Creed in Atlantic City?
Yeah cuz Spike was talking about I didn't buy it for I just can't make it I
got four tickets if he wants to buy them. Well when we get in tomorrow when we in tomorrow, I'll get your number and we'll
try to connect because we might make a show out of going down and seeing Creed.
I think it would be an amazing time.
My takeaway is, Cody Clemens, I can't get enough of the kids.
Every time he seems to come up, he gets a hit,
or even when he hits a home run,
it seems to happen more frequent than not.
And I think he's been a big part of this team.
Yeah, I mean, listen, he's playing his way
into more and more, I don't think he's gonna start,
but I think if they wanna give Bryce a day here, wanna give Boam a day coming back from injury, if he ever comes
back, and I think at least pinch hitting wise, he's definitely doing that. Now he
did have a brutal throw at third base tonight, but Cody Clemens is, he's
developing into someone that they could really use off the bench. Right and
that's, you know, that's how I saw it. His interview with, I don't know if it was Scott,
when he was talking about his role as a pinch hitter
and how he has to come in and his mindset.
I just love that, you know, it's like not going in
and no approach, he actually does have a plan.
So.
Totally agree.
You know, it's confident.
Totally agree.
Do you think they're back?
I think they're back, baby.
I think just keep the ship steady and then bread October light it up. That's right
I appreciate the phone call Bobby and that's the the big thing that I wanted is I always felt they were gonna make the playoffs
I didn't think they were gonna like
Totally collapse, you know, obviously things got dicey there where it's like are they ever gonna pull pull themselves out of this?
But I did not want heading into October the the vibe around the ballpark being like that they stink blah blah blah
They collapse and I think they get the playoffs right now
I think people are just right back to where they they were in the first half of the year
We're just jacked up for these games and and that's the biggest thing that has happened here
Are they going to the World Series? I have no idea, but they've pulled themselves out of it.
They're playing good baseball
and they're taking care of business.
Five in a row by the Fightings.
On the other side, we will get to more of your phone calls
plus the injury report, the play of the game
and a whole lot more.
Don't miss all that.

Three two on the way breaking ball bounced left to the mound.
Rangers into get it quick spin fires he got him. What great play
there by Rangers Suarez who fields his position so well.
That is our play of the game sponsored by mike's amazing the official mayo and
mustard of the phillies
rangers war is just continuing to be a wizard on the mountain at that might
have been that
the the best play i've ever seen a phillies pitcher make on the mound
is not clifftly behind the back in game one of the does not world series
the the best play ever seen a phillies pitcher make is maybe the best play I've ever seen a Philly's pitcher make
is maybe the best play I've ever seen a pitcher make
on the mound, maybe Mark Burley.
When Mark Burley on opening day flipped the ball
between his legs, pretty crazy.
But Velasquez getting hit in the arm
and then throwing a left hand into first base
is like one of the craziest.
Mince Velasquez was great at everything besides pitching.
Like he was a really fun player in just about every
situation like when you play left field fun throwing and
running around the plate fun when he hit fun that play fun
watching him pitch excruciating I mean it was the whole Vince
Velasquez kind of experience in one thing where it's like man if
you could just like have a second
pitch or even a third pitch or maybe develop a different kind of fastball that's not flat
and not walk a ton of batters. But I mean, for a guy who was infuriating, the 16 strikeout
game will live in infamy. The left handed thrower first base live in infamy. Him against
the White Sox where he caught the ball on left field
And threw a guy out of the plate live in infamy
He had a think a home run at one point down in Marlin Stadium like a fun player
When we talk about the when you're looking at the all
2013 to the
2017 2018 Phillies, I mean Flask has was a
Kind of a bright spot still not your favorite Phillies pitcher that are not even close come on man
Everyone knows everyone remembers breakout the better
I was actually talking about Pavetta earlier today because the blue jay series everything they play in Toronto
I'm always reminded of him getting shot on my wedding day
Which is about his you know, how can you not be romantic about baseball but either way, Ranger, unfortunately, yet again, is not going to qualify for the
gold glove. It's insane. The guys like the best feeling pitcher in baseball for going
on three years now and it's just not, it's not pitching enough innings. So once again,
ranch wars is not going to win the gold glove. Like even like, all right, Zach Wheeler won
the gold glove last year in the NL. Every one of the team would be like, again, Rangers Wars is not going to win the gold glove. Even like, all right, Zach Wheeler won the gold glove last year in the NL.
Every one of the team would be like, yeah, Rangers is a better fielder.
It's just, it stinks.
He deserves it.
He's been really good for a while now.
But I thought Rangers took a step forward tonight.
The Velocity stuff, definitely something to monitor.
Rob Thompson said maybe dealing with a little bit of a dead arm thing.
I don't know.
But either way, the play on the mound was pretty phenomenal.
Let's go back to the phones here
and talk to Jason in Swedesboro.
What's happening, Jay?
Hey, what's going on, Jack?
How you feeling, buddy?
I'm doing good.
It's been a while since we talked,
so I had to get on and talk to Phil.
Well, it's football season, so you're gonna be back.
Yeah, I'm gonna be back.
You already know, I've been hearing nonsense
from Spike lately.
Me and him gotta argue.
I hear him argue with other people, and I'm like, we're gonna get along so well.
Yes! We're gonna get along so well. I actually respect how well he argues.
It's frustrating. It's frustrating. I know, that's the best part. He reminds me of me.
During that whole kind of like slump period that the Phillies were having, I had mild concern, but I did
think a lot of people were getting a bit out of themselves just because I know how long
the baseball season is.
And I was really in that camp of like, I'm glad it's happening now and not in September
or going into October.
I was very happy to just like, all get it out now like while you're doing it
It was also just there was so much going wrong at the same time that it was just so obvious that the whole team
Was out of it and it was just gonna take something to pull him back
And I think that Blue Jays win with the three home runs from shore were that that was that that's really what's the men to me?
Like okay, they're back. They're good. They know what they're doing
They're coming back from you know big from big deficits and pulling through with it.
Yeah, and I think the most important thing off of that was also, off the Brave series,
you win three or four, it's an emotional high, to have to go on the road to Toronto, I'm
sure it was a bit of a letdown, and to be able to go down 6-1 and fight your way back,
that was, of all the wins, we'll talk about the Schwerberg Grand Slam,
but against the Marlins is maybe the turning point.
Like that game in Toronto is 100% gonna be one
that we talk about at the end of the year.
Oh yeah, 100%.
And it was really funny because I saw like a highlight
of Ryan Howard and his three home run game,
like the day of that Toronto game.
And I was talking to my buddy, I literally texted him,
like, why am I on my knees watching Ryan Howard highlights and reminiscing about 20
2008 and stuff I was only like six I still remember that
Run so well
It's like my earliest memory is watching that Philly team and he was like you're really hitting me in the middle of my day
With Ryan Howard highlights like well a cripple man. He was like it was majestic
It was it wasn't oh And 06 Reinhardt, 06 Reinhardt I don't think we'll ever see again.
I mean, the best single season athletes, 04TO, 06 Howard, 2010 Doc,
and 17 Carson are the best single seasons we've ever seen here.
Oh my god.
That run that they had in that core with just J. Roll, Cliff Lee, Roy to victory.
You know, it was just the whole team was everywhere you look.
It was like, wow, these guys can just play.
But yeah, I just want to get it.
I just want to get calling.
It's been a while, Jack.
I'll be I'll be I'll be going back to you more often.
Appreciate it, man. Appreciate the phone call.
Now, Justin Morgenstine.
At some point tonight, are you going to bring up some of those six
Ryan Howard highlights and educate yourself?
David, come on. Six year old Justin in the stands of Citizens Bank Park, which is for number
I think I was there for the 50 51 52 game, but I don't remember it. I've been told I was there
Two of them off of Tim Hudson
Yeah, dude, he was the third one. That's oppo is just like how do you hit a baseball that hard to the opposite field?
And just make it look so simple? Yeah
It's it's actually I mean him and Schwab are just beautiful when they fully connect with the baseball
But yeah, I assume that tonight maybe maybe in the 230 230 range to keep yourself awake
Maybe maybe put on some o6 Howard because it's it's truly like putting on a show
Now the injury report
sponsored by the Plumbers Union Local 690 protecting the health of the nation
visit plumbers690.org. I think the biggest thing to monitor with this team
continues to be the health of Bryce Harper. How does he look? Is he looking okay?
Well at least tonight he hit a ball to the wall. Now he did ground out in a big
spot where you need him to lift the
Baseball to runner on third less than less than two outs, but he almost hit one out
so I guess we take that as some progress and then boom, you know, he's still down and
I just I wonder if they're just sitting him until they lose. He's probably if I had to guess
Sitting him until they lose. He's probably if I had to guess
75% 80% right now and they're saying hey like we might as well just give you this opportunity to
To take some days here while we're still winning and you know when we lose what will put you back in there I have no idea. He was supposed to be back on on Tuesday
It's not been three games where he has not played now Cody Clemens did throw a ball almost into the
The front row tonight, but obviously, you know did a job and I don't know
I mean, we'll see what's going on with bomb and something to monitor every day
But I wonder at this point if they're just like
We're gonna keep sitting in till we lose so we don't have to rush you back out there
We're we have a pretty big cushion.
If you missed it, Braves lost tonight. They let Austin Gomber, who stinks, go eight innings of
one run ball against them. So the division lead matcher off tonight is officially up to eight.
Eight games. I wonder at what point they feel comfortable enough
to sit Bryce Harper.
And now it kind of feels like a Bryce decision.
Like with Bowling and Bryce, they'll be like,
now you're out.
With Bryce, I mean, we know how star players go.
Like it might be a Bryce call, but if this gets to 10,
can we please hit the guy for a couple of days
and make sure he's good for October?
What are we doing? What are we doing?
And then the other thing in the injury report is that painter apparently hit 99 in his first
His first outing against pitchers or against hitters. So he only threw 15 pitches
But he did hit 99 and that is exciting 2 1 5 5 9 2
94-94 is how you get in on the other side. We get a look at tomorrow plus the player the game and
maybe the most important thing that I heard that I will get all that coming up
next
on the final out on sports radio 94 WIP

Stott hits one high and deep right field.
That one is headed out,
long gone into the second deck for Bryson Stott. Oh, he right field that one is headed out long gone into the second
deck for Bryson Stott oh he turned on that one Stott with his 11th home run of
the season a solo shot will double the lead it's two nothing. I'm always surprised
when Stotter can go like second deck, I mean not second deck at Marlins Park it's not
exactly the easiest thing to do but you know when he gets into it he gets out
his front foot or whatever a little bit
Ball can take off but either way Bryson Scott our player of the game sponsored by South Jersey gas conserve helping customers and

Conserve and and stop signs of life
Brandon Marsh signs of life again Brandon Marsh is on
base eight times in the Blue Jays series and tonight had a hit which was good to
see was on base with a walk and a hit was on base two more times and as a ten
times in his last three games but you know again signs of life from those two
guys at the bottom of the lineup that you needed to get going here I
Think we all believe the top of the lineups gonna be mostly fine, you know Schwab or Turner
I mean Turner goes for these things where he's the best player in baseball and then not good for for periods
It's it's very very strange Harper have to get healthy, but I feel good about him bone Castellanos and then it's really you know
JT stop Marsh three big bats at the bottom of line up that you need to get going
Like a row has got a hit tonight. But again, he's got one hit in his last nine games. So I don't know he just
I'm I can't believe we're gonna be back here with the the Rojas having playoff at bats because you know
Austin Hayes goes on the IL today and hasn't exactly lit the world on fire since he's come over here like it
feels like he's kind of actually lost his job to to Weston Wilson but also I don't know
if Weston Wilson playing every day so it feels like we're gonna get Marsh and Rojas in the
playoffs and it's it's kind of like having a pitcher hitting knife it's just it's it's
not great at the play with the old hunter roas
obviously defense is phenomenal, but
but
If he's in the bat 9th, you need everyone else to to get going here
The nice part is when a guy like cody clemens is emerging and doing his thing
You feel like you can bring him off the bench. It's actually both of them weston wilson and cody clemens
Where I don't feel they really had that last year
like if it's game seven and you have
Bases loaded two outs and row houses up and like the sixth
You heard it wasn't the six was the fourth whatever that that game is just
Trying to think about it, but you know you can bring Cody Clemens out of bench for Rojas
You could bring Weston Wilson and they do have other options here, but
Either way, you know getting Staten Marsh going is really really imperative for them to to get going here
And hopefully win the World Series. What's the biggest thing that I heard tonight?
Yeah, right now one caller dropped off
The biggest thing I heard tonight was was the party music behind Thompson
That's how you know, the vibes are back. That's how you know that
They're feeling good about themselves. So, you know, Rob Thompson's just you know, given his Rob Thompson answers
There's a remix of the weekend song behind them stuff matters now wasn't dancing on my own
Curious see if it leaks out that dancing on My Own is back or Dancing on Our Own is
back. But I don't know. I thought it was good to see some good vibes behind Rob Thompson
and getting the party music back and everyone have a good time celebrating wins because
it was a rocky month and a half there and now they've pulled themselves out of it and
they're allowed to have fun again
The tomorrow night obviously the game is moved back a little bit seven ten start down in Miami game will be on
1210 at WP HT and it'll be Zach Wheeler on the mound versus Edward Cabrera
Edward Cabrera was pitching really well before he saw the Phil's last time out and the Phil's smokedug them for six earned and then he's pitched pretty well since you know
He's got two
He's a three earning two starts
Yeah in each and in two different starts and then one earned in his last start
So Edward Cabrera is always a guy that has stuff throws hard has a change up
That's like 92 miles an hour, but the Phil's have kind of done their job
against Edward Cabrera and Zach Wheeler
He's gonna have to really pitch well and gonna need Chris Sale to get shelled in
one of his last like three starts if he's gonna win Sa Young which is a shame
because he's been great but man Sale's just again he was dominant last night
yeah right down I think in the two fours now Wheeler's in the in the two sixes so
you know Wheeler's pitched more innings,
but still feels like Chris Sale has a stranglehold on the
National League Cy Young. But Wheeler's been great. And I mean,
Cy Young would be nice, but ultimately we know what the ultimate prize is.
But regardless, Zach Wheeler has pitched really well recently,
and I expect that to continue tomorrow,
even though one of the outings of my costume as I young was then in Miami when he allowed like seven earned in or it might have been
eight earned. I don't know. It was brutal against that Marlins team.
So it could have cost him a Cy Young,
but as long as this season ends the way we want, no one's really going to care.
So Zach Wheeler versus Edward Cabrera tomorrow as the Fills go for their second
win of the series and their sixth overall.
That's going to do it for me.
