Oh, what a night at the ballpark.
What a night to react to the Phil's.
Just taking it to the New York Mets.
Welcome on and it is the final out. Jack Fritz hanging out with you on this Tuesday night as yes, 40 plus thousand down at the ballpark, good amount of Mets fans. They get to drive home sad. They get the drive home sad as it looks like. We are inching closer and closer towards this team wrapping up the NL East for the second straight year. Second straight year taken home.
the end at least a lot to get through and i cannot wait to break it all down with you the game wrap
up sponsored by roto rudder when plumbing problems hit wrap them up quick and call roto rudder
their team tackles clogs and leaks so you can stay in the game roto rudder your MVP for plumbing
solutions 215 5992 if you're stuck in traffic would love to hear from you or if you watch this one at home
like i did of course i'd love to hear from you as well as again a lot to take away from this and
You know, my first biggest takeaway is more holistic, and the biggest takeaway is the game
are always brought to you by a Morgan and Morgan America's largest injury law firm.
And we'll get to the nitty-gritty of the game.
But overall, this team is just answering every single test that we've put in front of them.
Yes, there is the test of winning in City Field.
I think at this point, that's really it.
they've overcome adversity they've overcome losing star players they've overcome you know like they've had
they had the right deadline moves for the first time in the dave dombrowski era it seems like they're
getting hot quote unquote at the right time they have the right rally and cry in in zach
wheeler who was one of their brothers who was back in the ballpark yesterday i'm sure seeing him
around gave this team a little bit of extra juice they're having a magical season for one of their
players in kyle schwarber there's a lot of good things with this team that it feels like it's
coming together at the right time and listen if you're one of those fans that is in in wake me up
in october mode i got it i understand that mindset it's it's been a couple years with this team
where it's now or never
it really does feel like for them.
But I think if you're in that mindset,
you're also just missing out on what is a damn good baseball team.
And this is a team that they've been around since 1883.
And this, even without the title,
is far and away the third best run in this franchise's history.
They're about to win the NL East for the second straight year.
That's not something that we just do all the time around here.
We don't just roll out of bed and win NL East.
And we've talked about this at nauseam.
We've talked about this core.
But it's one of those nights where you look at them and you look at the way they've played
and the way they took it to the Mets tonight and you just leave it feeling like these guys deserve the parade down Broad Street.
We as fans deserve it.
I understand that.
But these guys, for what they've done for this franchise,
And if they exit this era without a title, we'll look back on it in 10, 15, 20 years,
and be like, yeah, those are still our guys.
And they'll be at fantasy camp and they'll be around and there will be the 22 reunion
and there will be those things.
But without the title, they don't get immortalized.
And there's just so many guys in this team that deserve that kind of recognition.
in this city. And then 22 came out of nowhere. You know, 22, they got in and got hot and
they went on a run. Twenty-23, that also had magical feelings to it. You had all the
try stuff. You had the Clutch Harper home runs. But this team, they feel more well-rounded.
They feel like they're in a better spot. Even the offense who you have your moments of
frustration with, there's something about the Bader edition that I think is, in Jackson.
life into the offense and what he did at the leadoff spot tonight was phenomenal, continues to
play great baseball. It's like every single night someone is stepping up while we're kind of waiting
for Schwerber and Harper. Listen, at times this year, Schwerber more than Harper, but it carried a
team, you know, and Turner had his moments of carrying the team. And there was a time in the middle
portion of the season where you were saying to yourself, after those three, it's a, it's a, the
flip as to what you're going to get.
And usually the coin flip actually wasn't even
50-50. You felt like they were going to not
come through it. Well, that hasn't really been the case.
There's been a lot of other guys
stepping up. Stott's playing good ball. Bader's
playing good ball. Marsh has been
fantastic. J.T.
has stepped up in a contract
year. It's a lot of the pieces
starting to come together. Bullpen
wise. You know, at the beginning of the year,
it was like, oh my gosh, they have so many holes.
And you look up now, they have a
real closer. Robertson's been a great addition.
He left a bomb to Viantos tonight, but overall he's been great.
Strom is rounding a corner.
Kirkring, I hope, is kind of going through one of those stretches
that he seems to go through every year where he loses confidence
and then he bounces back and ends up being pretty good.
I have my questions about the postseason because he does have a bit of a feel of lights
might be too bright for him.
But regardless, it's not like, I think they need a Ryan Kirkring to win the World Series,
but they do have some other pieces that are starting to settle in.
And then the rotation.
I mean, the rotation has been money.
And even without Zach Wheeler, those guys have stepped up.
Like, we talked about burn the boats.
And we talked about use this as a rally and cry.
They are.
They had the bad three games in New York.
They had City Field might just be this team's kryptonite.
Whatever.
Like, I'm not going to change how I feel about the Phillies because of six games in
City Field when on the whole, they've been so good.
So bullpen coming together, offense doing their job.
Are they a juggernaut?
No.
People are going to say hot and cold, hot and cold.
That's kind of the nature of the sport.
But so they've been doing their job mostly for the last little stretch here.
And their rotation is money.
They are checking off a lot of boxes for reasons to believe in them.
And tonight was just another example of that.
They destroyed the mess.
Matt's tonight. Destroyed the Mets. And like, thank God, maybe let me, maybe last night and just
getting one and not letting the Mets steal one in your ballpark with, with your star clothes around
the mound. Maybe that was just a seal breaker for this team to where they can look across the
field, understand that they're looking at a pretty good but not great baseball team. They're
not a bunch of Goliaths.
They're a bunch of, they're a pretty good baseball team.
Their starting staff is mostly meh, bullpen, meh.
After the top of the lineup, it's a meh lineup.
And it was good to see the Phillies just take it to him and not live in fear of this
Mets team because there's not that much to fear.
There's just not that much to fear.
Ranger was freaking brilliant.
I mean, brilliant tonight.
No doubt about it.
our player of the game, which is brought to you by South Jersey Gas Conserve,

slash conserve.
Career high in strikeouts for Ranger tonight.
I've mentioned it a couple times.
There's nothing more Ranger than him realizing Zach Wheeler went down and just being like,
oh, team needs me?
Bang, here's a, here's, let me rip off five starts of an ERA under one.
And this is, we're not used to seeing Ranger this deep into the season.
starting to find his footing.
We're using this in April and May, where we're like, you got to resign Ranger.
Well, he's peeking at the right time, and maybe that time off is allowing us to get the best
version of Ranger now.
The answer changes every single day as to who my game two starter is going to be.
I think I'm pretty settled on.
If it happens to be on the road, it's Ranger.
If it's at home, I'll start Lazardo.
But Ranger also just might be taking the ball and running away with it.
and he might just be the game two starter.
He's been so, so good, and we know what he's done in the postseason.
We know that nothing's going to rattle him.
And it's not even like last year where you just put him out there with the hope and a prayer
that he was going to step up and shut down the Mets.
You feel pretty damn good about it at this point, about him going out there.
I do wonder if the Mets, if there's some scouting report the Phillies have on them,
seems like they struggle against soft stuff.
You know, last night, Nola, so Nola has had two outings where he's thrown 20% change-ups or more.
Both of them happen to be against the Mets.
Tonight, Ranger was soft, soft, soft, soft.
He's not like a, he's a soft tosser.
He's crafty, so it's not surprising.
I just think that when Ranger can get in those modes where he can flip all his pitches in for strikes at any given count, you know, 91 looks like 95 when he has the ability to.
to spin a breaking ball and get the change up off and it's in the zone.
So he is pitching right now.
And yes, there is a difference.
There is a difference between, like, there's pitching, and sometimes there's throwing.
Well, Ranger is pitching right now, and it is a sight to behold.
When he does get in these modes, it's very, it's very, very cliffly like.
It's very, very, very cliffly like.
2-15-592-94 to get in on the final out tonight and the final thing,
and I'd be remiss we didn't bring it up now, but only the second Philly to cross the 50 home run mark.
I think I was sitting there, you know, maybe two off-seasons ago, last off-season,
saying to myself, am I ever going to see a Philly come close to the year that Howard had in 2006?
And it's like hard to comprehend.
I mean, hitting over 300 and 58 and 140 plus RBIs, like, that's an absurd offensive season.
And for it to be Schwarber, he's not hitting over 300 like Ryan Howard did,
but he's at 50 home runs in September.
I think that home run tonight was the floodgates hopefully being opened.
You know, I think he was thinking about 50 for a while,
and him chasing down Howard for the last month here would be a lot of fun.
but only two Phillies.
Franchise has been around since 1883.
Only two Phillies have crossed the 50 home run mark.
Pretty remarkable.
Even Mike Schmidt, Bessler Baseman of all time, did not cross the 50 home run mark.
It has been a special, special Kyle Schwerber season and part of the checklist when you're
looking at narratives and reasons to believe and can this team win a title.
Well, sometimes they're accompanied by one of your players having one of those seasons.
And Kyle Schwerber is certainly doing that.
Colin is in Limerick.
What's happening, Colin?
How's it going, buddy?
Ah, feeling great, buddy.
You used absurd in that last little rant.
I think it's absurd that the people that think that they're just ready to get to October.
or whatever.
Baseball is, it's a pastime.
I think you're, you, you enjoy it just as much as I do.
Like, it's not just, like, football's so hot and intense for 16 weeks.
Baseball, it's like, it's more than just that.
Like, it's, it's part of the summer.
Yeah.
And they made it, so, yeah, it stinks, like, you get heartbroken in, in October when they've,
when they've been letting us down, especially against the Mets, which they've been doing great
the past two nights, but, but like, they've, they've made it a great, the past few years,
a great and memorable, memorable summer.
And with, with all the, the moves and everything, I think it's awesome.
Wheeler, like, we're, we lost our best pitcher, and the best, he has, he, when he got, when
when Trey got, got injured, he had the, he had the,
most hits in, what, the, just National League or the majors?
Most hits in the National League.
He's competing with Freeman for the National League batting title.
It was, to lose him as well, the fans like that stadium, they pump so much life into the players.
Regardless if it's Weston or Auto or any of the Kepler, like they, they,
the team feeds off of us, and it's awesome.
My friend Rachel was there last night and snite.
She gets, it gets all the time.
Like, we're passionate about that.
I took Baby Girl for her first Phillies game on the 24th of August.
It was Ranger Man, seven innings, 11Ks, 90 pitches against the nationals.
And it was just, they have made, again, it stinks when it comes.
comes October, and we had that heartbreaking, but they have just made these past few summers
so awesome for all of us, and hopefully we can keep it going with the giving them energy
in that stadium, because if we can get, like, the two and have a monster home field, not
that that buy as much of a home field, if the past few seasons history dictates, but just getting
them at home and and willing
them with the positive energy
I have
it's going to be tough but
crazier things have happened as we know
with Nick Foles I know
it's apples to oranges
but
they've made it very exciting
I'll listen to you tomorrow
afternoon bro it was nice to talk
this night man you too Colin you too
appreciate the phone call
yeah the Wheeler injury totally thanks
And Trey will be back.
I guess I wouldn't be surprised to be played in the regular season.
If I had to bet his first game back is going to be the NLDS,
maybe they play him in like the three final regular season games
to get him reacclimated to it.
But getting a two-seat is beyond massive.
And giving Trey that extra week off, get him off his feet,
get back and be good to go would be huge.
But yeah, it's the Wheeler thing.
stunk. If there was one spot where they could, unfortunately, lose a guy, it was the starting
pitching staff. And part of the burn the boats movement was using it as a rallying cry. And I think
so far, they have. And they've played really good baseball since Wheeler's gone out,
outside of a blip in the radar up in New York. But guess what? They're making up for it
because they took it to the New York Mets tonight.
215.5.592, 94. On the other side, we'll get to more of your phone calls, plus some fun stats.
And Fransky's call of Schorber's 50th was money.
So don't miss that. If you were at the ballgame and missed it, Franzky killed it per usual.
We'll hear that coming up next on the final out on Sports Radio 94WIPA.

Yeah, you felt it coming.
You know, last night he hit a couple balls hard,
right on the screws,
but more line drives right at people earlier in the game tonight.
Something similar.
It was about time.
It was about time.
And I think he needed it.
I think he needed number 50.
Get that out of the way so that he can, you know,
refocus and get that, you know,
monkey off of his back.
And here we go.
And we'll see.
The chase down of Ryan Howard is on.
It's funny.
I would feel a certain way if he actually does get close and possibly take him down
because Howard is one of our guys and as a World Series champion and just had a ridiculous run here.
It would be really, really weird watching someone else possibly had the most home runs in franchise history.
and goes without saying, but quite the contract year for Kyle Schwerber.
It is the final out, Jack Fritz, hanging out with you, reacting to a just crushing defeat of the New York Mets tonight.
A little different of a ball club outside of City Field.
I don't know what's in the water up in City Field, but for some reason,
they play like Monstars up here, up there, and then as soon as they leave that,
ballpark, something happens. Something
changes. Might be time
for Major League Baseball to investigate the Mets because on the road,
that team is pretty pedestrian.
Greg is in East Norotan. What's happening, Greg?
Yeah.
Ranger Chores is a pit bull.
Yeah? He is so intense.
And I love it when he doesn't
let the umpires dictate what he's
going to do.
he goes after it every night
and then the shore bomb tonight
everybody's waiting for it
and when he hit it everybody's like
oh my God
you got to be kidding me
I mean that ball is still rising
when he was leaving the ballpark
he killed it
I'm telling you what
they're destined this year
they are destined for greatness
starting to have that feel Greg
it's starting to have that feel
Well, you know, I'm really sorry Zach went down, but we got three lefties that are so good.
And as long as the offense holds their end up, those guys will do their job.
Yeah.
And you got Duran closing things.
Yeah, sometimes he makes it interesting.
Like most closers.
Well, of course.
But is it not a beautiful thing?
I think it's all coming together.
Yeah, Greg, and I appreciate the phone call.
They're checking a lot of boxes.
They've checked the adversity box.
They've checked playing well against teams over 500.
They're not just beating up on bad teams,
which was talked about a lot at the beginning of the year.
They're not just living and dying by the home run,
but they're also starting to hit home runs,
which you have to do.
I know we have this mindset of like,
you got to do small ball blah blah blah blah blah well listen teams that hit the most home runs
generally do win in the postseason like you you have to be able to take the ball of the
ballpark i think they're still leaving all of baseball in home runs since the all-star break so
even the power department which i did not think was going to happen this year like every time
they talked about the slug was coming i would i would scoff at that but they've been right
about that the power has been there a lot of the stars are aligning and talk about playing their
best baseball at the right time well they're starting to do that as well and you just hope that
for for freaking one month one month in october that they can just get it done just get it done
end it and be legends forever.
Like just play the Fred Schiro quote over and over again,
the Flyers coach.
By the like, you know, when did I walk together forever?
I'm definitely botched that, but you get the point.
You get the point.
Some fun with numbers here.
Harrison Bader is hitting 576 against the Mets this year.
I think he played against them with the twins.
I'm sure he did.
but at least since he's been a Philly, just killing that team.
And I really, I really do believe him being added to this, the mix here,
and being thrust into, I think, of a leadership position
and being one of the more vocal guys in the team has really changed the chemistry of them.
Because I think the Phillies are a collection of very, they're just good guys.
I think they're good dudes, but I think there are a lot of, I think they're comfortable and they get along.
And I think Bader is one of those guys where he doesn't have trouble saying what he believes.
Been around the game, been a part of winning clubhouses, was with the Mets last year.
Maybe he told the Phillies, like, this is like an optimistic mindset, but maybe he told the Phillies, like, this is everything we saw.
Like, we thought you guys were soft.
We thought this, that, and whatever.
And I don't think he cares.
I don't think he cares.
I think he carries himself with such moxie and feeling like he's one of the best players in baseball,
even though for a majority of his career, he hasn't been.
But he carries himself with that moxie of not giving a crap.
And I think this team needed someone like that.
Dombrovsky's couple deadlines have been mostly underwhelming,
although the March trade is starting to right now look really good for this team.
They've been underwhelming, though, at the deadline.
So far, he crushed this trade deadline.
Bader's been unbelievable.
Like him and Luriano have been the two best bats acquired at the trade deadline.
And Duran's been great.
1.32 ERA since coming over, had the shaky little three outings.
but besides that has been absolute nails.
They've got a lot of the pieces right.
They've got a lot of the pieces right.
And the nice part about how they're playing right now.
I know Schubert, the four home run game.
I know we get the home run tonight.
They're doing a lot of this winning with Harper and Schwerber
not really doing their part.
There's been a lot of games recently
where they've been up with runners in scoring position
and they're not getting the job done.
Get them going in October, along with a lot of the other pieces on the team, figuring it out.
They got a shot.
They got a shot.
One of the guys that's definitely starting to pick it up is Bryce and Stuy.
His average is up to 255 all of a sudden.
He got his 500th hit tonight, which is great.
Defense has been phenomenal, but you're looking at the whole lineup and the makeup of the lineup.
Him at the bottom of it, doing what he's been doing recently, really adds it a nice dimension.
mention to it at the bottom.
The pitch count tonight brought to you by the Plummers Union Local 690, protecting the health
of the nation.
Visit Plummer 690.org at 99 pitches for Ranger Suarez.
He was brilliant.
Attacking the strike zone, you know, having command of all of his pitches, keeping hitters
off balance.
It was vintage, vintage Ranger Suarez tonight.
And one of the many Phillies that seems like is peaking.
at the right time.
215-5-992-94, roll your phone calls on the other side,
but also a look ahead to tomorrow before getting out of here.
It is the final out on Sports Radio 94 W-D-Y-Pa.

so not only is bader seemingly taking the center field job and run with it at least while tray out does he take the lead off spot and run with it at this point i wouldn't put anything
past Harrison Peter.
The guy's just special.
Said it when they straighted for him,
that he reminds me of a 93 fill,
and the more and more you watch him,
he's just got that field on.
Maybe he's found a home here in Philadelphia.
He has a mutual option at the end of the year.
Both sides have to agree.
I assume that with the year he's having,
you'll want to opt out of that.
But two years, $24 million,
$12 million a year.
for Harrison Bader.
Another guy in a contract year is kind of going off,
which makes you a little bit nervous,
but at worst case scenario,
you play a good defense and kind of has a flare to him.
I don't know.
But Harrison Bader has been
quite the trade
deadline acquisition.
And just saw a video of
if his handshake with Nick Cassiano's
where they both at the end point to the ring finger.
And it does feel like that that's where his team is.
And, you know, in the club outside
after the game, they raise a glass.
asked to Kyle Schwabber for his 50th home run, only 34 players in the history of the game.
50 home runs in the season.
And for the Phillies, there's only been two.
So you've been saying it a lot tonight.
They're checking a lot of boxes when you are evaluating, can this team get it done?
And some of the narratives that are starting to form around this team,
a lot of it is coming into focus at the exact right time.
Like they've passed so many tests this year.
Now it's just time to get the ultimate test.
Hope it tomorrow, they can get Brandon Marsh back in the lineup.
He's been battling the flu.
Been recovering, I guess, at the ballpark.
So, you know, sick as a dog.
But we'll see if he can get back in there tomorrow.
Against Clay Holmes, Chris Sanchez, versus Clay Holmes as the Phil's go for a series
win over the Mets and get some revenge off of what was, again,
a disaster series up in city field.
But one that could have sent them into a tailspin, and it didn't.
They responded immediately pouring on 19 runs the next night against the Atlanta Braves.
So another one of those little adversity moments that the Phillies have taken and ran with so far this year.
Hogueies in Bryn Maw. What's happening, Hogue?
Hey, Jack, how are you doing that?
Oh, I'm doing great, pal. I'm doing great. What a win.
Man, what a great game. Almost home.
Driving home. But I wanted to react.
One of the things you first said at the beginning of the show was you said, oh, all the Mets fans are driving home sad.
They already left.
Yeah, I'm sure they did.
They were gone by the time Schmobom hit the 50 Schmobom.
They got up and left as the ball was still mid-flight.
that was still rising and they were they were for the park a lot
how was the uh how was the field tonight in the ballpark it seemed like a pretty
joyous atmosphere from from my tv yeah i was i was a it was a i thought there would be
more people there but i guess because it's a tuesday but uh there weren't
it was capacity but uh it was it was yeah it was rocking and uh and of course they
played great and ranger pitched great and uh but another thing i want to
wanted to react here, Harrison Vader, I feel like the platoon situation might not work if we
hadn't gotten him.
Sure.
You know, like, it seems like he makes that, that platoon thing work, and, like, Cassie's
willing to do it because, you know, they're all working together, and it's really great.
It is, Ogian, and get home safe.
I will give Cassiano's credit for this.
It seems like he had his little phase where he was being a little mopey about everything.
But he had a quote over the weekend finally seemed like he got the message of these fans don't care about.
To the effect of these fans don't care about like Nick Cassionness that when I win a World Series.
Not at the same point of like we don't care about Nick Cassianos, but it's not about Nick Castionis.
about winning the ultimate prize.
And I think you've seen him be more bought in.
And it bought in Castiano's can be a valuable player for this team.
We've seen him have big postseason moments.
And it's a little thing.
But him pointed the ring finger with Harrison Bader as a part of their handshake,
that's not nothing to me because it shows that he still is all in on trying to bring a title
back to a city into a team that, by all intents and purposes,
seems like they're ready to move on.
You know, it seems like there's going to be a mutual split this off season.
But he got a big hit tonight, open the scoring against Manaya,
who is shoved against his Phillies team,
going back to the playoffs last year and at least one start or two starts this year.
And he broke the game open early, not broke it open,
but he gave them the lead early.
So you give Cassion's credit.
Also, like, credit for the defense last night in the ninth.
you know, Ronnie Maricio probably should have scored in that baseball,
but Castionis did just a good enough job to get the ball in quickly
and keep that a one-nothing game and Maricio on third base.
So a lot of guys buying in.
I love the Kepler quote from over the weekend talking about how, you know,
he had to swallow his pride and realize that they got to do whatever it takes to win a World Series.
And I feel like you're starting to hear more.
and more of that. I think the last couple years it's felt more lip servicing.
Seems like there's a good level of desperation with them right now.
But overall, an unbelievable night down at the ballpark, Ranger, great, and they took it
to a Mets team that a lot of people have said are in their heads, and that's impressive.
So Tom Kelly, don't you worry, he's going to have you next, reacting to it all as the stars
continue to align for our baseball team.
Luke Nichols produced the final out tonight.
Tomorrow night, I'll be out at Screwballs in King of Prussia
alongside James Seltzer for a little high-hopes watch party.
And if you're still waiting to get your copy of Ring the Bell,
the story of how the Philadelphia Phillies,
but the build baseball's best fan base,

We'll be signing copies of it and selling copies of it
out in King of Prussia as well at ContraHock and Brewery
with Glenn Mack now on Saturday.
from two to four. So come on out. A lot of opportunities to hang out, talk some phils,
buy a book, and have an overall great time. So hope to see everyone out. I guess I'll just be
living in KOP for the rest of the week. But that's going to do it for me. Tom Kelly's next.
He'll take you through the rest of the night here on Sports Radio 94 WIPA.
