Tying run at third, winning run at second, two outs, bottom of the night.
The Steves kicks the 0-1, swinging a ground ball towards first.
Harper smothers it near the bag, picks it up, steps on first and the game is over.
Harper bangs that one around long enough to keep it in front and he'll step on first and
that ends the ball game. Skidding across the chalk as Harper able to finally reel that one in. It had
some weird spin on it but the Phillies celebrate a come from behind 3-2 win tonight over the Braves.
a come from behind 3-2 win the night over the Braves a
kick save and a
Beauty welcome on in it is the final out sponsored by Regency furniture affordable never looked so good
Had Whit Maryfield come through and won the game for the Braves there
Yeah, listen if you smoke the double it would have been
brutal if that ball
hit the first base bag
bounded away and
They walk it off on that and wick gets that satisfaction. I
Don't know who would have hosted the final out tonight, but it would have not been me would would not be here I would would refuse and it would have been
absolutely brutal, but as always
Never a doubt never a doubt fills win. Thank
God as always final out sponsored by Regency of furniture affordable never looked so good to one five five nine two

crevice dot online again two and five five nine two
Ninety four ninety four to react to this one. It was tight when they went down to nothing. I wasn't super
confident frankly. I think I watched the last three innings. Listen, it was a little chilly
out but it was under a blank and the blank was over my eyes. Tonight felt like a playoff
game. It really did. Like after yesterday and coming off the national series where you
feel pretty good Sunday
Was a damper a hundred percent
you know the whole Harper controversy in the ninth inning pinch hit whatever and then they laid down like they did last night and
had the top of the lineup to what they did and and
The Alvarado decision late it was just like
This thing is when we're talking about fan confidence, obviously the season isn't teetering right now
is when we're talking about fan confidence, obviously the season isn't teetering right now,
but I think fan confidence is teetering right now.
Again, and I brought this up on leading off,
but we did a poll in the afternoon show today
where just simply asking, do you still believe in the Phillies?
And 52% of people said no, and that's on like 1,500 votes.
So when we're talking about needing to get the fan base back,
obviously when Red October happens,
it's gonna be a madhouse down there
But like I think that if they can get some wind at their sails
Heading into heading in, you know down September and ends October
It was go a long way to not have the fan base feeling like this is a one-and-done kind of team and lost tonight
You know, obviously there's a good amount of season left to where they could turn around
It's just it would have been really damaging of like lose the first two in Atlanta fan morale down
You just beat the Nationals and Marlins. Congratulations. It means nothing and at least by coming back and fighting back tonight
they stave that off for a little bit and hopefully they can just carry that momentum into tomorrow and
And get going on a run speaking of tomorrow
James Salter and I will be hanging out at the trap Tavern out in the college real area area enjoying some Miller lights
Watching the Phil's hopefully take a series down in Atlanta the biggest takeaway the game brought to you by Morgan & Morgan
America's largest
injury law firm
my biggest take away of the game and it's it's
pretty obvious but
they did their jobs tonight like that's what i want the phillies to do
we love home runs we like we all know the old saying chicks take the long ball
like we get it
but that tonight and rob thompson talked about But that tonight and Rob Thompson talked about after the game Bryce Harper talked about after the game
Like that's winning baseball. You have to be able to win games like that
You have to be able to because you're the long balls. They can go cold
We've seen this team go cold when when the long balls they're not hitting home runs
They have to be able to win games like that. So I thought they all team go cold when when the long balls they're not hitting home runs they have
to be able to win games like that so I thought they all did their jobs tonight
they manufactured runs the bullpen did their job and I thought Rob Thompson
really did his job at a high level tonight it was a great Rob Thompson game
let's start with the offense sure top three in the lineup would like to see do more but they did their jobs
So it's a single row. I'll double by the way Ross playing good ball row houses
You know
Like his average if you want to go by average, I know it's not the same amount of play it played played appearances
It's above Marsh. It's above stop two guys that we hold in pretty high regards around here
At least heading into the year and for majority of this season and they've been
called off and whatever.
They also did some good things tonight.
But regardless, Johan Rojas is more than doing his job and it's really good to see.
So good for Johan Rojas.
Schwaber hits the ball in the middle, does his job and then Turner hits sack fly to two
It's would you would you like a big getting there? Would you like a crooked number?
They did get a crooked number
But you know what I mean more than just two runs after getting runners on first and second or runners on second and third
No outs sure. I agree with you, but at least they tied the game at least at a bare minimum
They did their job then late in the game
Wilson double off a righty off
a righty stop sack flight of center field Brandon Marsh in a huge spot
listen mentioned it last night in in heading into the night 69 of his last
160 plate appearances Brandon Marsh has struck out that's a huge number and I
was just so fearful of a Brandon Marsh strikeout and I was thinking in that moment
I really would probably rather have Rojas up to play at this point
But that's where we got that's where we've gotten to with the Brandon Marsh hitting situation
Is that I think I would have rather had Johan Rojas. I would have trusted Johan Rojas more in that situation.
But Brandon Marsh came through and did his job.
So again, was not pretty, was not super inspiring,
but they grinded out a tough win
and they manufactured some runs,
which they have to do if they're gonna win
a ball games in October.
It just matters.
The bullpen, obviously
great Hoffmanstrom, Kirk Ring and Estevez. Estevez, we just have to get used to it.
They're gonna be heart attacks in the ninth. It's gonna be as, it sort of is what it is.
And he's just added to the list of relievers that they've traded for the deadline over
the last couple of years that are heart attacks.? I mean you want to go to work man?
You want to go to Ian Kennedy you want to go in Kimberl was in the offseason?
But Kimberl, you know, you want to go David Robertson like he's
it's not gonna be the cleanest nine with with Carlos Estevez, but
Did their job and and I think Rob Thompson, you know gets crushed in this city
I think he deserves credit for tonight pulled Noah in that spot put in Hoffman Hoffman did his job roll a double play
He pinch hit Sosa and Rojas who both had pretty good nights for two struggling hitters and the two struggling hitters came through
They they did their jobs as well and he left West Weston Wilson in verse a righty in the eighth which
Well, I thought was pretty interesting. I mean, he hasn't been totally trustworthy with Weston
Wilson against Reide's since he's been up here.
But I think that they're starting
to develop some trust in Weston Wilson.
And they got to ride this run for Weston Wilson.
Do I know how long it's gonna last? I don't,
but when he's up there, I think I have pretty good trust in him. And it's gonna make the
Austin Hayes decision fascinating. Like Austin Hayes, they send a AAA to get some rehab at
bats and I think that was kind of a stall, like felt like a bit of a stall tactic because
I think they're curious as to what Weston Wilson brings them
Been really good against lefties had a hit against a lefty again tonight had the big double in the eighth
He's on a bit of a heater right now him and Austin Hayes are are sort of inter interchangeable
Like at their best, you know, so Austin Hayes is brought here to rip lefties Weston Wilson is currently hitting lefties
Austin Hayes was doing a good job against righties what like it's it's gonna be a decision of
Who gets a majority of the playing time when when Austin Hayes is back, you know, like like Western Wilson was here when Austin Hayes was acquired
So it's not like they have to send Weston Wilson down
But who's gonna get the line share the playing time?
That's gonna be really fascinating and it's a tough decision for the fills and Weston Wilson is making it tough on them to 1 5 5 9 2
994 and the second biggest takeaway tonight is if I know it's pretty good like again two straight starts where
Again did his job, you know and with 100 pitches
He pulled them and again our pitch count sponsored by the plumbers union local 690 protecting the health of the nation
Visit plumber 690 org the health of the nation visit
plumber 690 dot org let let the home run to our see you but for the most part was down
the zone did his job dodge some bullets and competed it's all I can ask for like I want
Nolan that spot it's a big moment. Again, season not like falling apart,
but hasn't been going great.
Fan-based teetering, it's a pretty marquee start.
And I thought I stepped up tonight.
And I thought that was a good sign for Aaron Nola.
215592, 94.94.
Blake is in our berth.
What's happening Blake?
Hey Jack, thanks for taking my call.
And that was just a massive, huge win for the Phillies
tonight. And I think all week we put on WIP people just ripping Rob Thompson saying he should be fired etc etc
Tonight we saw why he's one of the best managers in baseball and really in Phillies franchise history
He managed it like a team that needed a win and he managed like a playoff game
Hoffman in the sixth in the dirty inning did his job then he brings strongman to face the top of the lineup, uses Kirkering, uses Estevez and then his
pinch hitting played to perfection and I think also as well you have to
credit to the hitters having along a lot of heat recently but since that stretch
the approaches looked a lot better and even when they lost that game to Atlanta
last night the approaches look better tonight. Same thing eighth inning. It's looking very very good
Yeah, I mean listen Kevin Long
It's tough because what do we know like like what do we know about his job in a way like
These guys are professional hitters. He's generally done a pretty good job with with some of the young guys
The stars are gonna carry this team. I don't know how much Kevin Long's really affecting
those guys, like they're pretty marquee names.
But at the same time, it's like the approaches
have looked so wonky at some points and they've gone cold.
But at least tonight, they did some of the little things well
and I just hope that it carries over and they remember
there are other ways to win besides just looking
to hit home runs
Yeah, and ultimately Kevin long is not telling more the players enough to play an offensive coordinator
Like some people think he is but on the topic of the bullpen
As you said, I'm concerned with that's the best to a degree
You compare him to David Robertson Kimball some guys that he reminds me of Tommy Hunter and that somehow his numbers look solid on paper
but whenever I'm watching that guy, I just feel like he's gonna blow it and he really gives
off it's a dangerous vibe and with that in mind I two thoughts number one would you use
who's Jose Ruiz in higher leverage spots he's been amazing since the All-Star break or do
you think that's too risky given his success in the fifth six innings and number two would
you consider bring actor nurse back he clearly? Is it clear to wave or is it time to bring Hector home? Hector the
protector breached the phone call Blake. The Hector the Hector situation is
tough because he has 14 innings left before a nine million dollar kicker or
it triggers in so because he breaches a certain amount of innings or whatever so I don't know what to
fill his mind do it.
I don't think he's a nine million dollar a year reliever anymore.
You know he's he's a sixth seventh guy.
You don't really want him in the eighth ninth which is where you generally find like the
nine to eleven million dollar a year relievers.
Depends how desperate they get.
I would hope that they wouldn't need Hector would I like an extra arm if the nine million dollar kicker wasn't in there
I would definitely be in on Hector, but it is and it's 14 innings
And you know, maybe if you want to wait a couple weeks and then bring them in but who knows?
I don't know what's going on with Hector. Maybe I don't know is there
Maybe they could talk to his agent and see if he'd waive it to try to get signed.
I don't know, but it's definitely something to monitor. Fully cleared waivers so he's good to go and sign with any team that wants him.
And Jose Ruiz, it's interesting, I thought tonight could have been an opportunity for him, depended on how much he trusted Orion Kirkering,
but he clearly trusted him and went back to him.
Tonight at Orion Kirkering was great.
So I think Jose Ruiz has earned more high leverage spots,
but at the same time,
I thought Gregory Soto had earned those spots.
He had pitched really well for a good stretch
in low leverage spots.
They put him in high leverage spots and he blew up in their faces. So I
Think they're willing to give it a shot
But I would definitely need to see it before I'm like you gotta get him in high leverage spots
And then hopefully you can it can do a job because again, he has been really really good since the
Since the all-star break, so maybe some more high leverage Jose
Ruiz spots two one five five nine two ninety four ninety four to react to this
one on the other side we'll get to the lamest thing I've seen on a baseball

Wilson is back at the track at the wall he jumps it's gone.
To run home run for Orlando Arcia. His 12th of the
year, the Braves are on the board. It's two nothing.
Welcome back. It is the final out sponsored by Regency
Furniture. Affordable never looks so good. Jack Fritz hanging
out with you here on this Wednesday night and boy, sick
Orlando Arcia
Oh, you really showed them you show the fills it's over
I don't know how they're gonna be able to recover from from staring down Bryce Harper on
August 21st when you're down in the division by seven games boy
I just just completely made up for for for what happened last year in the postseason
I mean what a clown but whatever I mean he's been I mean how he acted even like, you know
when it first happened and he's like that wasn't supposed to get out like dude just
It would have been better if he just owned up to it and then I he could not handle
The fans after that like it was it was a tough scene for him
So I'm glad he got his revenge
tonight on August 21st. That was just dynamic. Everyone's shaking in their shorts. I am glad
they fought back and won the game after that. Because to have him do that at Bryce and to
just lay down, because at that point again it was it was too nothing they didn't score for a couple of things after that I was
getting furious just I was getting like they really might be cucked like what
are we doing like can someone just show a backbone and and put up a fight here
and I'm very happy that they at least did that, you know, they scored runs in different ways and
We don't have to deal with the RCF thinking he won tonight
So I appreciate that and my big goal of tonight is I really hope that Bryce watches that video a thousand times
I'm sure Bryce saw it. I'm sure he felt it in the moment
But like I need him to know that Orlando RCA did that and get back on track and get mad and and go on a run
here because we talked about a lot we know that this team goes as price goes and
Getting him back going, you know launching baseballs. I think would go a long way towards like
Really pulling them out of this rut manufacturing runs like we talked on the open really important But like really getting them out of this rut. Manufacturing runs, like we talked on the open, really important, but like really getting them
out of the rut is getting Harper close to where he was
for majority of the season,
really before he pulled his hamstring.
And I just, I hope that he uses the RCM moment
as some kind of motivation because man,
that was embarrassing.
And you know, his teammates are like,
what are you doing?
Like, awesome.
You really nailed that.
And I, Rob Thompson, I think gets a reputation
of just being laid back, letting whatever happen.
I do think there's a fire in Rob Thompson.
I really do, in my gut.
I believe that Rob Thompson has a fire to him.
I think he's calm. I think that he's
pretty calculated, but I do think there's fire and I
Really appreciated this quote after the game when talking about it. Here's Rob Thompson postgame
I see it stared at Bryce after he hit that home run running person. I heard about that. Yes
Game's my show we won
I heard about that. Yes gamesmanship. We won
And the way he said that like he we won like good good
Show the fight show the backbone. That's fine. It's a rivalry
It means something in this city. It means something to hate the Braves, to hate the Mets.
And it's okay to embrace it. It's okay, I promise you.
I wish all of these teams understood that.
And the Philly's Braves thing feels pretty damn real.
And I just like the little cocky, well, we won.
It's okay.
Sports hates good.
And I do think there is a sneaky fire in Rob Thompson.
We'll get to the player of the game here in one second.
But Luke is in New Hampshire.
What's happening, Luke?
Jack, what a day when the Phillies win, am I right?
I mean, it's an immediate mood booster.
Don't ask me how I felt when Mary Field hit a squibib or the first baseline that I thought was gonna squeak fast Harper
Bad part I just want him to fail so bad
I'm like we you were a missing piece and we were gonna do so well and then nothing
Scosia Atlanta it's like two hits off of us last night three hits like you gotta be kidding
Well again, he had more extra base hits more more
Games with extra base it with multiple extra base hits in one game
Which was last night than he did his entire time as a filly and it's like dude. I
Know they gave up on you man
But they also paid you nine million dollars with that option for a second year and you hit 190 like
You know, what are they supposed to do? Like I understand you to use things
as motivation and I get it but they were pretty pretty pretty good to you. They
weren't gonna start you and he couldn't adjust to a roll off the bench. Like
congratulations on starting for the Braves but man if he came back if he
had if he had a hit there and broke our backs it would have been I
Wouldn't be here to doing final out tonight. We could use the 9 million to get Hector back. So what are we doing?
apparently so
Thank you so much. We have a series at home against the Braves and I know CBP like we're good
Make them hear that especially if we already got the division on lock. Like dude, what are you doing?
Loading the barrel.
Well, I hope this team responds.
I do, they did a good job tonight responding,
but I don't know how many players in the moment
knew that the RCM moment happened.
Like I hope they watch it a million times tonight.
I don't care, like use it, use it it you've been playing and you've been in cruise control for two months two months
Use it Luke. I hope they do
Good and I need a division. I need it so bad. Let's get
Series off come October
Rest up the playoffs hard and let's go Phil's man. Thanks Luke. Appreciate the phone call
well, the thing is that is they can win the division and still
Have to play in the first round because you're gonna need the one in one or two seeds to get a buy
But yeah, I mean
Listen if they lose the division at this point
I'm not sure where you're covered outside of
at this point, I'm not sure we recover. Outside of blowing the division
and then winning the World Series,
the city might never be the same.
And people bring up the Rangers,
most of those people are me,
because I am trying to convince myself
that everything's okay.
But the Rangers last year,
they had a seven and 17 stretch
like the Phillies did this year, but the same time their biggest division lead, I believe was three games
It's a little different than having a seven game lead here on August 21st
The player the game sponsored by South Jersey gas conserve helping customers and the community save money and or saving energy and money

and I'm giving it to the bullpen.
Bullpen did their job tonight.
I thought, obviously Hoffman, huge spot there,
got the double play and I'm just happy he pitched
because I thought it was fishy last night
how it looked like he was ready to go in
and then all of a sudden he wasn't ready to go in.
So it was good to see Jeff Hoffman, fine,
did his job tonight.
I would have extended him another inning.
He only faced the one batter.
You let Strom get the eighth,
and then the ninth is gonna be Estevez
until proven otherwise.
But, you know, he goes to Strom.
I also would have left Strom in to face Olsen
He didn't Orion Kirkering with maybe the quickest inning I've seen from a Phil's reliever my entire life, which is shocking
But Kirkering did his job slowly. I think starting to come out of his little funk, which is really really important because they need
Competent bullpen arms at this point. I think he's doing a better job of throwing the fastball. Looks like he's added a little bit of sync to it. So it looks like Kirk Green, I think,
is coming out of the little funk that he was in.
And Estevez, listen, he did his job.
I just walk in the first batter of the inning,
and it's like, oh, here we go.
Here we go.
I'm going to have a hard time trusting him.
I really am.
It's a pretty time trusting him. I really am.
He, it's a pretty flat fastball.
Slider feels like more of a cement mixer.
I think he's got stones, but I just,
I'm having a hard time trusting Carlos Estevez,
but did his job tonight and obviously I'm hoping
that he can
Solidify the ninth inning spot for the Phil's on the other side. We will get to the play of the game and
Maybe the funniest stat about the 2024 Phillies plus a look ahead to tomorrow and all of your phone calls It's the final out of sports radio 94 WIP
Two balls two strikes on Marsh. Here's the pitch
Two balls, two strikes on Marsh. Here's the pitch. Swing and a high fly ball left center field on the run in the alley is Harris at the track. Kelnick is there. Kelnick makes the catch. But here comes Wilson. He'll score.
And it's a sacrifice fly for an RBI for Brandon Marsh and the Phillies take a 3-2 lead.
That is our play of the game sponsored by Mike's Amazing,
the official mayo and mustard of the Phillies.
Thank God, because Brandon Marsh, again,
like I mentioned in the open,
69 out of his last 160 plate appearances were at bats.
He just struck out in, and it was a one-two count,
and he was not seeing spin very well,
but regardless, he did his job
By the way, like what was up with some of the balls down in in Atlanta tonight?
The RC a ball goes out but JT I thought hit one 10 rows back
I thought the Marsh one there had a shot. I think Cassiano's hit one to the wall
I think I think the Braves are using different baseballs than the Phil's so that's that's my theory
And and I'm sticking to it. It is the final out sponsored by Regency furniture affordable never looks so good Jack Fritz hanging out with you here
Wrapping up the final out here on WIPA 215 592
94-94 let's go back to the phones Eric is in contrahawking. What's happening to me? Hey, Jack. Hey don't man
I'm doing well that I needed that one. how about you yeah that was a nice win little concerned about Harper man I
don't I don't know what's up with him I don't know if he's a little bit hurt or
what's up with him but he has not looked like himself yeah so I I think I think
he's banged up a little bit again I said this on on pregame and I said it
yesterday you know so he slid into second base
it looked like kind of jammed his wrist when he went to it against the nationals in the 13 to 3 game and
Then I remember he had his wrist taped on Saturday
And then all of a sudden wasn't playing on Sunday and wasn't able to pinch hit in an obvious spot
So, I don't know. I think he might be doing something something with their wrist. Maybe I'm talking myself into it
I don't know. I thought was at least a good sign that he hit a ball to the wall in the middle of
the game, so maybe he's starting to climb his way out of it.
But yeah, I mean, again, getting him going, I believe his last 20 games heading into the
night, he was hitting 225, but they got to get him going, obviously.
He's a huge, huge part of this offense.
Yeah, they really do.
I mean, JT's looked better, I think, recently.
I agree.
Turner's looked better.
Not great tonight, but overall, he's looked better.
I'm just a little worried that these bats are
going to go cold.
They did last year in the playoffs,
and they just seem to be so streaking, Jack.
I don't know what it is.
I don't know how to explain it.
Yeah, well, I appreciate the phone call, Eric.
I think my biggest, well, that's why, again,
that is why winning the game like they did tonight
is important so they see that there are other ways to win.
I think my biggest fear with this offense is,
I don't know why anyone throws them a fastball
Like like try feels like he swings at every single curveball, you know, Bryce traditionally fine
But like he's swinging everything right now
You know Cassie and also swing like against spin Brandon Marsh
Struggling to see spin. It feels like all of them are
marsh struggling to see spin. It feels like all of them are really, really floundering
against breaking balls.
So I don't know why you'd ever throw a fastball.
They've got some good fastball hitters.
But spin killed them last year against the Diamondbacks.
When they go cold, it feels like it's when they're just
chasing and they're struggling to recognize spin
So I think that's the big fear at the offense is it is that?
teams start breaking balling them to death and and they can't get out of it, so
Again, it was good to see them score in a different way tonight
And hopefully they realize that there are other ways
But I think my big fear is them getting kind of breaking ball to death.
My favorite stat, I think, about the 2024 Phillies, which I did not know, I guess has
been a running Fransky bit, which I appreciate as a bitsman.
But tonight was their first pinch at RBI of the season on American soil.
It's August 21st.
Like they have gotten by American Soil like they played over in
London and obviously David Dahl had the pinch hit home run. So like that's but that's it. They've
got they've got two or whatever how much the David Dahl home run was but like on American Soil tonight
was their first pinch hit RBI. That's almost impossible. And again, it's August 21st
Tomorrow Chris Sanchez versus Spencer
Schwellenbach actually likes well and buck. He's got some interesting stuff
He's got a 2.86 ERA in his last seven starts and shockingly. He's got very good off speed stuff
So I expect them to have some some strikeout numbers early
But hopefully they can get him out of the game and Chris Sanchez looking about or looking to build off of
What he did the last time out be curious to see if they they manage his pitches at all
You know, I don't think I think he's on regular rest. I don't think they got an extra day for Chris Sanchez
So, you know today
maybe calf him at like 85 and and you
know but at the same time go down there and get a win so I hope they don't but
I know that at this point they do still have the lead in the division and you
know I'm sure that they want to be cautious with some of these guys but
Chris Sanchez is brilliant his last time out was filling with strikes So was not in the middle of the strike zone
We know he struggles on the road a little bit more than he struggles at home
So, you know, hopefully they can kind of rectify that tomorrow
But Chris Sanchez again the push for the number two starter in the postseason. No one did his job tonight
Now it's on Chris Sanchez to do his but either way that's gonna do it for me again
Come hang out with seltzer and I will be at the trap tavern tomorrow in the in trap PA the collegeville area
So watching the fills here in the area stop on by
Enjoy some Miller lights and hang out with us as we watch the fills. Hopefully win a series
So no final out for me tomorrow, but thanks for hanging out with me tonight
