Best win of the season.
Like, that was freaking awesome.
I was there.
We were going to get into it.
It was awesome.
But then, like, you know, 7-9.
They lost prior.
So I don't really know what to do with that.
It was more like, all right, good short yo for yesterday,
but let's pretend the rest didn't happen.
Yeah, I guess it was more of a thank God kind of yo.
It was a save the season type game.
Yeah, because obviously you could be like, well,
they were down to their final strike,
and it was Trey Turner up there, and whatever.
Dude, there is not a single person in that building watching on TV
who wasn't 100% sure that Trey Turner was ending that game.
In fact, I knew that Stott was going to get a hit
so Turner could get the last out.
That's where my mind was at in that moment.
And if I was a betting man, which I'm not.
Yes, never.
And there was obviously odds on it.
I would say strikeout was going off at minus 200.
Yes, I think that's a fair odds.
Weak ground ball to the left side was probably minus 100.
Yeah, and then maybe like a soft pop out plus 100 or something like that.
Home run, I think, was probably going off at plus 400. Are you kidding me? and then maybe like a soft pop out plus 100 or something like that. Right, right, right.
Home run, I think, was probably going off at plus 400.
Oh, my God. Are you kidding me?
No, way lower than that.
Plus like 1,000 or something.
Plus 800, somewhere in that range.
Plus 800-ish.
I would say plus 800.
So it was definitely something I didn't see coming.
And we were here.
So obviously I was here yesterday,
and Ike and I were watching the game on the hub where we could here. So, obviously, I was here yesterday. And, like, Ike and I were watching the game out in the hub where we could see the TV.
And instead of, like, going in the studio, all we did was stand outside the studio.
Like, we couldn't just, like, we didn't have the ability to go through the door to get in there.
So, we just were standing outside with, me Him, Yad, Scope
Like watching the end of the game
And Turner hits the fly ball
And then we're like banging on the glass
Like again
We were at the game also
We just couldn't go in the studio even though we could
There was no one in there
So it was weird and it was good
And after his strikeout
In the 7th which with the ugliestliest swing I think I've ever seen.
He got booed. Like lustily booed.
Now, were you a part
of the booing? We all were booing him.
Everybody there was booing him. No, it was you.
Did you boo? So in that
specific moment, I didn't. But it's
not because of that. It's because I was talking to someone
and I wasn't paying close enough attention.
We went with listeners. We went with
the morning show listeners.
We gave away a bunch of tickets.
And those games, like, you could only really pay attention like 30% of the time.
Of course.
Because if you just meet people and talk to people.
It's like High Hopes Nights.
Yeah.
It's exactly like High Hopes Nights.
But I was like the ninth inning on, we were just all locked in together.
But I actually missed it.
I went back and watched it later.
What did you think when you went back and watched it later i missed what you think when
he went back and watched it was horrible it was horrendous it was trey turner all season yeah um
so it's good to see that you uh you know uh contained your composure and did not did not
yeah oh i would have if i've been paying attention don't get me wrong i'm largely pro boo i'm a
booer i'm gonna hold them accountable yeah yeah Yeah. Again, I think it's the proudest
moment of my Philly sports fandom
was booing Adam Eaton at the
Ah, I was there too. It was one of the great moments
I've ever been a part of. My favorite boo. Yeah, it was great.
It was dessert, is what it was. I was
getting his ring. It was phenomenal. Top five
boo. Top five boo. I'm with you though.
I do think like, like, I'm
a big believer in, you know, outside
of, of, um, you know, doing things illegal in, you know, outside of, of, um, you know, doing
things illegal or, you know, like fights or whatever stuff.
Like I think a fan should be able to express themselves however they want.
Like whatever dude, like deal with it.
You make millions of dollars playing a game, like go out and play a game and let the fans
do what they want to do because you have to make them not boo.
You have to make them cheer.
Like that's the deal.
That's the contract we sign up for when we pay money to go to a baseball
game or to a sporting event of any kind.
The contract we agree
to is, I'm going to watch you guys.
I'm either going to cheer, I'm going to boo, whatever, but I get to do
what I want because I'm a fan. Yeah, booing's fine.
I don't need the whole, you bleep it.
No, no, no. Don't say horrible. That's my point.
You're right. Don't say horrible
things about people's families or this or that or whatever.
But a boo is a perfectly acceptable way to express your displeasure i think i believe nice
good um yeah so i thought his answer post game was fun like it was great like his shot to his
mom yeah like i was booing too and unbelievable real quick real quick do you think his mom really
was no shot no shot right like there's a zero percent and by the way if she did send that text
it was more like in a sarcastic tone.
It was a joke.
Yeah.
I don't think she was standing in front of her TV booing herself.
Boo!
Stop, Trey!
What are you doing out there?
Yeah.
I don't think that was going on.
Much more likely she was like, stop booing my son.
Because that's what I would do.
If Zoe were a professional athlete and people were booing her, I'd be like, stop booing
my daughter.
No.
Because, and I know this is, believe it or not, high school baseball is not the same as major league baseball.
Okay.
Not according to this podcast.
Yeah, I know.
But I remember my mom, like my mom was at all my games.
But she would be like, she'd be pretty tough on me.
Like, she'd be like, stop.
Wow, really?
You respect it. Trey Turner's mom, I feel like was locking up, like my mom, like, come on me like she'd be like stop like stop wow yeah so i you respect it
trey turner's mom i feel like was locking up like my mom like come on trey i like you're so much
better than that well yes well yeah she's not wrong not wrong she's not wrong but what are you
doing but then he probably sent her what like a cool millie after the uh yeah probably more than
that it's like i got you that three under it's like yeah you like that thanks for everything
mom yeah yeah she's like all right fine i won't boo. Yeah, you could definitely buy my boo.
I'll tell you that.
If you want me not to boo.
What if Trey-
Very happy to do that.
What if Trey just started Venmoing Philly fans?
Like, hey, please don't boo me.
Here's 100 bucks.
What would your price be to not boo?
I mean, I'm pretty easy sellier.
Like, you know, 50 bucks or something.
100 bucks.
Yeah, it's more than i had before
to just i would i would need at least a grand wow look at you i like i like the i like the
integrity that you're putting this is like this is my fandom here i i would need at least a grant
and not yeah i like that yeah so with trey like yeah it would be awesome cool with that
by the way clearly bryce has been talking to him about like, hey.
Accountability.
Here's what you say.
No doubt about it. Here's exactly what you say.
I sucked.
I would boo me too.
Oh, that's a, where have I heard that?
It sounds really familiar to someone else from their first season here.
Yeah.
Yep.
Yep.
And let me be the first to say this because I just, I feel it on my bones.
Okay.
Trace. Oh no Trey's bleep.
Oh, no.
Should I bleep that out?
No, you should bleep it out.
Trey's bleep.
Trey is bleep.
Trey is bleep.
Yeah, you got to bleep it again.
Can you give more work for me?
Yeah, no, I can.
Trey is...
Okay.
Good.
But I really...
I think yesterday was that moment where it's like, all right, exhale.
Exhale.
Like, just give me the big exhale and just go play baseball.
Like, he talked, I think Gelb wrote it, you know, how, like, he's had a bunch of people
texting him, like, do this, do that, do this, do that.
And I'm sure he's just like, can I just go be me?
He's like, shut up, everybody.
Like, I know I'm not playing well right
now. I'm good at baseball! I promise! I'm good
at this! God! And this is the biggest
probably struggle, besides May of
17, that this is the most that he's
struggled his entire career. Yeah. Like, no doubt
about it. And he's probably, because baseball,
like, Trey Turner seems like one of those guys
and much like JT, where
everything just comes easy for him. Yep.
You know, like. It's like natural.
Super fast.
If he wanted to be whatever sport he wanted to play,
he probably could have gone professional.
That's who he reminds me of.
And him struggling right now is probably the first time
he's really struggled like this.
And it's funny because he keeps saying this is the worst I've ever been,
but he has been this bad before, and again, May of 17.
So it's clearly affecting him, and he clearly wants to go out and do the right thing.
And frankly, like, I felt bad for him, you know, because I obviously I want him to be
great.
Seems like a nice guy, like, you know, unassuming and all that.
And I don't think he's not trying.
Of course he's trying.
Of course he's trying.
I think he's just like, what the hell is going on right now?
So, but I think that yesterday having that home run, it lets him just like,
all right, I can still just go play because that's what he needs to do.
There's no mechanical fix.
Stop thinking about it.
Just go and play.
Stop thinking about it.
You don't need these extra long sessions with Kevin Long.
Sometimes the best thing is to just get away and take a deep breath
and just come back refreshed and good to go.
And I just have this belief that, and maybe it's because I've watched
too many of the video yearbooks, but it's like, can't you just see that being like,
and that was the moment that Troy started.
It all turned around for Troy Turner.
And the Phillies.
And hopefully the Phillies.
Well, that's what we're hoping.
And look, it is that kind of moment.
That was the most I've been surprised by a win in a game I've been at in a long time.
When it was 5-0, it was dead.
By the way, real quick, what did we always say?
They were going to win the Gallon Star.
Yeah, you did.
Actually, you said it.
So we were hanging before the game yesterday, and I'm sitting there.
I'm like, oh, good thing they're facing Gallon.
And I was like, well, you know they're going to win the Gallon Star.
Obviously, they're going to win the Gallon start, which is hilarious.
But, yeah, it was like it felt done.
Like it felt over.
Like they had no chance yesterday.
And they just fought, man.
And it was like last year.
You know, you think about some of those games,
like the Bowman-Vierling game off Hader in Milwaukee.
Like it had that kind of feel where it's like, whoa, like this is different.
This isn't what we've been doing.
Like there's simply – you talked about it. I mean, confidence is everything in baseball. It's mano a mano. It's you versus that, this is different. This isn't what we've been doing. There's simply, you talked about it.
I mean, confidence is everything in baseball.
It's mano a mano.
It's you versus that dude on the hill.
Confidence is everything.
So I absolutely could see, I mean, it has to become a lot.
Well, and Matt Wilmington called the final out yesterday.
And he gave me the perfect comp for it.
It was the stop walk off last year.
Yeah, against the Angels.
Yep, sure.
That's what that was.
Because that was right before the Brewers series.
That happened next.
And it was like the right around the same time.
Well, and that was that they were down 7-5.
They tied it.
Well, Bryce hit the Grand Slam.
That's right.
Bryce hit the Grand Slam to tie it.
Then they gave up the lead.
Then Stott.
Yeah, that was a great game.
Yeah, it was.
That was a great game.
And it was funny, too, because I was on final out that day.
And I was like, started the run. And then they started the run, and it was bang. So, yeah, it reminded me of great game. And it was funny, too, because I was on final out that day, and I was like, started the run.
And then they started the run, and it was bang.
So, yeah, it reminded me of that game.
And, you know, when Rob Thompson says after the games when they lose,
it's always like, well, I think they're fighting.
I think they're trying hard.
And I thought yesterday was a good example of that from the standpoint of
that's a 5-0 game on a getaway day against the best
pitcher in the National League this year.
Could have easily just been like, alright, we're on to Atlanta.
I thought it was! I thought it was over!
And then they came back
and...
Till their last at-bats, till their last strikes,
till their last outs, man.
The one thing I'll say
about the Phillies, and
how I felt Tuesday night.
Like, Monday night was annoying because it was like Tommy Henry.
Because they would come close and then they would give it away.
And Wheeler would give it away.
But I'm with you.
I thought they battled on Tuesday, too.
Yeah.
My problem with Tuesday night was I didn't think they were good enough,
which is another problem of itself.
Couldn't hit Nelson.
I was just like, okay, guess we're not hitting this, dude. But, you know, what I felt more Tuesday night was like,
they look like they're pressing.
They started to have a look of a team that was trying to do too much.
I think it was Bryce trying to steal a base in the fifth inning.
And it was like, dude, Kyle Schwarber's up.
All he's going to do is hit a home run right now or strike out.
So, you know, it was just kind of unnecessary
and they looked like they are trying to get out of this and they want to get this right and i just
hope that yesterday is like the moment where they can just say we got this we're good let's just go
play because that's what they need to do i mean that's what rob thompson really did last year
there's nothing genius he he made good whatever. The biggest thing he gave that locker room
was he took the tension away.
I think Joe Girardi created the tension.
I agree with you.
