Starting point is 00:00:46 This is the High Hopes Podcast. High Hopes. It's a bunch of baseball nerds. Well, without the computers. Talking about the Philadelphia Phillies. On Radio.com and Sports Radio 94 WIP. Yo, it is a opening day victory edition of the High Hopes podcast. I am James Seltzer.
Starting point is 00:01:10 I have made my way into the studio as Jack Fritz is finishing up producing the Phillies game as we speak. My wife might kill me if I am not home in the near future, but we had to make this happen for you guys as a, wow, 10 to four on opening day. I got the opportunity to be down there for a good portion of it. The electricity back in that ballpark, the excitement,
Starting point is 00:01:37 something we haven't felt there in such a long time. It was really special. It was special down there. And we know Bryce Harper comes out and does the bow and the fist pump. And it was an energy in that park that we haven't felt since 2011, since this team was making playoff runs. And that energy was back. And it was back in a big way. And look we'll we'll dive into it all here at least as much as we can before my wife kills me maybe i'll even go and jack will call me and we'll do
Starting point is 00:02:12 it that way whatever we got to do to make it happen but um just an awesome day and obviously starts out a great way aaron nola mows down the first three hitters he phases in the first inning. And then we get, and here he is, coming in to the studio. Straight off the press. Finally. Geez Louise. What do you mean? I know. These poor people had to listen to you.
Starting point is 00:02:32 For how long? They did. It was like a minute and a half or so. Oh, that's a minute and a half too long, buddy. Way too long. They listen to me have to talk about how my wife's going to kill me for being here. Emily, let me just say something to Emily. I had to do it.
Starting point is 00:02:44 Listen, Emily, love you very much. Everyone in Philadelphia needs this podcast. I know. Because guess what, James? We're going to have a baseball team this year. We're going to have a freaking baseball team this year. Like, Reese Hoskins, that home run was so beautiful. And, like, I swear to God, when McCutcheon hit the home run,
Starting point is 00:03:04 I literally started getting emotional. I really did. beautiful and like i i i swear to god when when mccutchen hit the home run i literally i started getting emotional i really did because like this is this is what hoskins has been waiting for i'm the most happiest for hoskins because hoskins has talked this whole offseason like i just want the fans to come back i want to i want to have that feeling of oh wait remember when remember when chase was here that's what he talked about right. Right. And he saw the 08 stuff. He's like, honestly, I don't want to talk about it anymore. He's like, I'm just done talking about that. I want it to be a new memory.
Starting point is 00:03:29 Well, guess what? The new memory was today. First career Grand Slam, Reese. First career Grand Slam. And he made them pay. He made them pay. Atta boy. Atta boy, Snicker.
Starting point is 00:03:39 It's like Manny Ramirez, David Ortiz type of stuff right there. No, but it was just like, that's the Philadelphia difference. Like that crowd was insane. That's what I was talking about in my minute and a half monologue before you got here was being down there, feeling the energy. It was like it was back in 2011, back when they were making runs. It was like, it was electric in that ballpark. Dude, it was crazy.
Starting point is 00:04:00 And like just hearing on the radio was so loud and you could hear Franski smiling through the calls and like LA's being happy again. And by the way, dude, I had no idea LA had prostate cancer, and he's fine. He's clear. Thank God LA's fine. Thank God. That would have been a horrible start.
Starting point is 00:04:14 But McCutcheon going out there, he hits the home run, the place is going bonkers, and he bows to the crowd. He bows. Reese got the curtain call. Oh, Reese has been waiting for that curtain call since he came up. And Bryce did the bow for you. As requested right here on the Hive Talk. It was going to be like Woodstock and right field.
Starting point is 00:04:35 Was I wrong? No, you were dead on. You guys were out there, weren't you? Yeah, it was like Woodstock and right field. It was crazy. And he's wearing the fanatic cleats. It was so perfect, man. He's too much, man.
Starting point is 00:04:44 It was super. Who would have thought his best play of the day, too, was a hell, man. He's too much, man. It was so perfect. Who would have thought his best play of the day, too, was a hell of a throw to home plate. Yeah, it was a good throw. It was a good throw. But, like, man, it couldn't have been scripted any better. It couldn't have been. I mean, like, sure, Bryce Harper could have home run.
Starting point is 00:04:56 And boy, was he trying. Oh, boy, was he. And I think that was part of it. But, look, ultimately, you felt the effect of Harper in the lineup. You know, again, the Reese Hoskins-Homer are a perfect example of that. But it was such a fun day because, first of all, Aaron Nola didn't have his best stuff and still just found a way to get through six with eight strikeouts. Five walks, you're like, what is going on?
Starting point is 00:05:15 James, Nola's bad day? Is six innings and a run and one earned run. That's his bad day. That's bad Nola. He's not going to walk five guys again. And that's the thing, though. This team is going to score a ton of runs.
Starting point is 00:05:27 Everyone contributed top to bottom. Not the guys you'd expect. 8-0 Mikey. 8-0 Mikey. 8-0 Mikey. Cesar obviously the RBI double down the line and the walk that he had to set up the Franco Homer
Starting point is 00:05:43 with two outs. That was a big at bat there too. Well Herrera with the single in the middle. Herromer with two outs, that was a big at-bat there, too. Well, Herrera with the single in the middle. Herrera got the RBI, which was a great at-bat, too. Went with the pitch, hit it up the middle. I was hanging with your buddy, Joe Giglio, down there, and we were like, that's when Herrera was home. When he's taking the pitch, going right up the middle. We had fun.
Starting point is 00:05:57 I'm so jealous of every single person that was there. Oh, so fun. I was morose. We got there right in time, too. Like, right before they took the field. It was perfect. So, like, it's just crazy. Our 3-4-5 hitters a couple years ago, or I guess Cesar was our leadoff hitter.
Starting point is 00:06:13 Yeah. Herrera was our 4-hole hitter. No, 3-hole hitter, and then Bronco would be our 4-hole hitter. Like, now they're our 6-7-8 hitters. It's crazy. And, like, that's what we've the lineup. Now there are 6, 7, 8 hitters. It's crazy. That's what we've been saying this whole offseason, was that the first five in that lineup are just going to be so tough to get out.
Starting point is 00:06:34 McCutcheon worked some 3-2 counts today. Even though Harper struck out, he was working deep counts. Julio Tehran didn't crap down his leg like I was anticipating. No, especially when you expect McCutcheon goes yard, you're like, oh, buddy, let's go. He was all right. It was the Braves bullpen that crapped him. I mean, we all see this Braves collapse coming, right?
Starting point is 00:06:52 Oh, yeah. It's the Nats and the Phillies in this division. I mean, they're a Ronald Acuna team and Freddie Freeman. Acuna's legit. Yeah, Acuna's amazing. He's even just tough. Like, you could see pitchers not want to mess with him. Right, and he stole that bag today.
Starting point is 00:07:07 I was like, oh, I forgot he can steal whenever he wants. Oh, he's like a 30-25 guy. Yeah. As a 21-year-old is what's going to happen. Yeah, it's going to be a long season. But real quick, back to the McCutcheon-Homer. We've not really talked about movies much on this podcast, but Major League, in my opinion, is the best sports movie of all time.
Starting point is 00:07:23 I know that's an aggressive take, but it's my favorite. Let's get this out of the way right now. Baseball movies are the best kind of sports movies. By far. It's not even close. It's not even close. Field of Dreams, The Natural, all of it. But I've always been a Major League,
Starting point is 00:07:36 your season's going to be what that first at bat is, and then McCutcheon goes yard. I even said that to Joe Giglio when we were saying that. I was like, I love the Major League line. Your season is what your first at bat is, and then McCutcheon goes yard. I even said that to Joe Giglio when we were standing there. I was like, I love the major league line. Your season is what your first at bat is. And then McCutcheon goes yard. It really did feel like just watching the game, hearing the crowd, seeing how the game unfolded.
Starting point is 00:07:53 I kept saying to myself, we're in for something special, aren't we? The introductions were crazy. The McCutcheon home run, it was like, that's a big exhale moment. You have Nola, didn't have his best stuff. But still, that felt like a team that's like, we're about to do some stuff. Yeah, it felt like a team that wants to go on a playoff run. Right, and you have Kapler going down the line, just aggressive high-fiving. And also, Gabe, not doing that much in terms of managing, over-managing, all that.
Starting point is 00:08:23 He just set his lineup, let the guys play, made the right bullpen decisions at the end. Nairus, obviously. Well, what can you do? It happens. Matt Joyce is a good, it's right in a pitching well. Anyway. Well, and I was just laughing.
Starting point is 00:08:39 They start getting itchy trigger finger at like 80 pitches. Oh, yeah, buddy. He let them go to 99. He did. He did. He had to after 69 last year. He's like, eh. 68, but yeah. Was it 68? It was 68. It's the He did. He had to after 69 last year. He was like, eh. 68. But yeah. Was it 68?
Starting point is 00:08:45 It was 68. 69 is a better number. It's the only calls we took on the station for two weeks. He took a null after 68 pitches. But yeah, it just felt like we're about to go on a really, really special run. And I keep coming back to Hoskins. I know with Harper being here, he's not the leader or whatnot. But it sounds crazy.
Starting point is 00:09:02 He's still the face of the Phillies to me. Reese Hoskins is still the face of the Phillies. Well, because he was kind of here before in that way. Right, and he's the guy. The team in 08 was special because you grew up with Rollins, Ali, and Howard, and Hamels in a way. You grew up with those guys. We grew up with Reese Hoskins.
Starting point is 00:09:16 We went through the lean years with Reese Hoskins. And when you see him have that kind of moment, it makes you emotional. It really does. I like that. Because he gets a curtain call. He's going down the line before the game even starts, and he's giving out, like, let's go.
Starting point is 00:09:31 He is, like, when he was doing that, I was yelling let's go. I thought I could have thrown at least 82 today. Like, if I was on a gun today, I'm pretty sure I could have hit 82. I'm serious. I believe you. Thank you. You were jacked up. I was so fired up.
Starting point is 00:09:45 I actually saw someone who plays baseball with you, and they actually said you were pretty good. Yeah, well, I'm sure he- I saw someone down there, and he was like, actually, Fritz is good. He's like, Fritz has got an arm. Yeah, I'm sure he will. People think I'm, because I work in sports radio, they think I'm lying. I was actually good at this.
Starting point is 00:10:01 Yeah, that's what I was told today. Yeah. I still need to see it for myself. I'm glad to see the told today. I still need to see it for myself. I'm glad to see the sources are. I still need to see it for myself. Oh, man. It was good to hear. What a freaking day, man.
Starting point is 00:10:12 Like, what a day. You had a Neshek save in the ninth inning, kick save and a beauty. I can't get over that Nola's bad day is now 8K's one run and five walks. He walked three guys in an inning, and I was like, oh, my God. Yeah, in the second inning, I was like, what is going on right now? What is happening? Can I be honest? So, I couldn't., and I was like, oh my God. Yeah, in the second inning, I was like, what is going on right now? What is happening? Can I be honest? So I couldn't, Joe and I were in right field, so was he getting squeezed at all?
Starting point is 00:10:30 He was definitely getting squeezed. I couldn't tell from out there. But it wasn't the same, though. He was getting squeezed, but he also was off a little bit. His fastball location was just off. I think he just dropped his arm slot a little bit. And the great thing about Nola is that he is able, he's such a smart pitcher. And Aaron Nola is just such a treat to watch from a pitching guy
Starting point is 00:10:45 because he pitches backwards, in and out, fastball wherever he wants it. You're in and out right now. No, it's just like watching an artiste. An artiste, not an artist, an artiste. It really is. And can I just be honest? Yes. I never lied to the High Hopes crowd.
Starting point is 00:11:02 During the three walks, I was like, oh, no, I did not expect an aaron nola like like come back oh god is nola gonna ruin today no it wasn't today it was the season oh god it was the aaron nola regression season oh you were you took that yeah you didn't even take today you went the whole leap you're like oh god i was like the one thing i wasn't prepared for the only thing we felt 100 sure about was nola would be freaking awesome i know i know and i it was a moment of weakness. That's such a glimpse
Starting point is 00:11:27 into your psyche, Jack. I'm always thinking that and looking for the worst. By the way, I think Uri's RBI projection might come to fruition. Jesus Christ. The guy has real muto behind him and OBP machines in front of him.
Starting point is 00:11:43 Gene Segura, he hits the ball today, it was like five feet in front of the plate, beats it out the first base. Oh, Philly was in on Gene Segura there, then took second on the throw, stumbled going around, hustling down there. Oh, LA was fawning. Everyone was in on Gene Segura then. And, you know, I think it's right
Starting point is 00:11:59 to be in on Gene Segura. Scored a couple runs today. Look, that, it's a great point because the top of the offense, the top five allows those bottom three to not have that type of pressure on them as well. They don't need to produce. It's a bonus when they produce. When they produce, you put up 10 spots. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:20 You put up 10 spots. Yeah, well, it's just the lineup top to bottom, it just makes so much sense. I'm at a loss for words sometimes. They're going to have some... Remember the 08 teams when it would be like, oh, they're going to put up a 20 spot tonight, like in St. Louis. There's going to be multiple of those games
Starting point is 00:12:39 because they're such professionals. They're so hard to get out. They work so many pitches. They don't really strike out I know Bryce had the strikeouts today And listen We're gonna give We're gonna give Bryce
Starting point is 00:12:49 A very big pass For today Oh please If you were watching Bryce He was trying to hit a home run He only wanted to do A home run So bad
Starting point is 00:12:58 And I can't blame him I get it I would be at 1-2-2 When I saw the When I saw the fanatic When I saw the fanatic cleats and I saw the shirt. Yeah, the Pulp Fiction shirt. That was hot.
Starting point is 00:13:08 Do you think he's embracing the face of baseball thing? Yes. Because he's trying to make it fun. And he's trying to be like, check out this guy. He even said why he wore the cleats thing. He's like, the fanatics always just made me and my family happy. He's like, he smiles all the time. I love it.
Starting point is 00:13:21 He just wants baseball to be fun. And that's all we ever want. That's what we talk about. That's why we rail against the old school people who are like, bat flips are stupid or this or that or whatever. Like, it's your disrespect in the game. Like, screw all that. That's why I love the Let the Kids Play campaign because that's what it needs to be.
Starting point is 00:13:42 Let these dudes have fun. There are actual people in this league, and Reese Hoskins is one of them. Bryce Harper is another one of them who can actually appeal to a younger fan. They are faces of baseball in a way where they're likable guys. Alex Bregman, McCutcheon here.
Starting point is 00:13:58 There are so many guys like that now. Let them have fun. Go out and make baseball fun. Show people that it is fun. And by the way, I mean, talk about a game to get the casual fans back in. Oh, buddy. All the people who just tuned in were like, yeah, I'll check out this Phillies
Starting point is 00:14:13 thing everyone's talking about. Schwack. In. Yeah. Wow, do they score 10 runs every game? That's great. Well, according to our callers, we had a caller so James and I obviously work different shows. We had a caller into my show that said they're going to score three runs an runs an inning yeah we had a guy say double digit runs a game and i was like wow that is absurdity three runs an inning beats it yeah yeah it's it's crazy the things that people come up with but whatever we love them equally but like imagine you're imagine
Starting point is 00:14:40 you're a six six through nine year old like at that game. It's your first baseball game. How do you not fall in love with that sport? Of course. You have to. The crowd was... That was the biggest thing, especially being down there and seeing it. It's been a really long time since baseball felt like that here, and it was immediate. It was electric in that stadium. I mean, the first inning, everyone's hanging on every pitch.
Starting point is 00:15:02 Dude, you couldn't hear Dan Baker's introduction to Bryce Harper because it was so loud. I didn't get to hear it. I didn't get to hear him introducing Bryce Harper for the first time because it was so loud in that stadium. They were hanging on every pitch of Nola's first inning. It was great. People were invested in the game. I know.
Starting point is 00:15:19 That's one of the cool things about baseball is that you can go to a game and it can be a hangout type of thing where you're talking to people in between pitches and all that. But when it's great is when everyone is hanging on every pitch and there's a tension in the air in between pitches and all that. And that's what it felt like there. It felt like everyone was invested. Everyone was locked in.
Starting point is 00:15:40 It was awesome. Dude, it felt like a playoff game. It felt like a playoff game. It felt like a freaking playoff game. It was awesome. Dude, it felt like a playoff game. It felt like a playoff game. It felt like a freaking playoff game. Like, just watching the game this season is going to be so freaking special.
Starting point is 00:15:51 I am so happy. I think, all right, I'm so happy for Reese. Like, I just think this is a huge moment for him and Nola. Like, they came up. They're our babies. Totally. And whatever. I freaking love Andrew McCutcheon.
Starting point is 00:16:02 Oh, already. Like, I'm in love with him. In. In. I love the dude. In. Like, hitting the home run and'm in love with him. In. In. I love the dude. In. Hitting the home run and then going out and bowing to the crowd. That's freaking amazing.
Starting point is 00:16:09 I know. But that's what makes baseball so much different than the other sports. Sometimes the Sixers do it where they have that kind of crowd interaction. But baseball is the one sport where you can have fun with the crowd. You can have a catch with the kid. You see that all the time. Totally. You can be Bikes Harper and throw a ball into the third deck and all that.duble herrera can actually be oduble herrera yes yes like he can
Starting point is 00:16:30 because his team is fun like this team has harper who's fun all in loves the philly thing by the way hustled out his first his first ground ball we watched it we were very closely we were joe and i were staring down like run buddy yeah run and Run. And he did. Yeah. You could see it. It was funny. It was at least like 97% hustle. It was perfect. Which is the fake hustle. And it was a ground ball to first base.
Starting point is 00:16:51 Like, it's all right. You know? No, I was definitely watching it. But this team is just, it's going to be a team that Philadelphia fans are going to fall back in love with baseball with. Like, this is a team that you can easily rally behind. They have the ace in Aaron Nola, which you can tune in once every five days and watch a stud like performance they have mccutcheon who's super fun and left they have herrera who i think when he's not like when he's
Starting point is 00:17:12 not the the derisive figure for all these people who like he's the only person that they can zero in on and and kill like he can be shane victorino that's what he can be yep you have harper and right field all in on everything you have franco's fun like he can be. You have Harper in right field, all in on everything. Franco's fun. He's a funny player. Hey, and in an eight-hole spot. Eight-hole Franco? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:32 I mean, how does it feel to be dead wrong about Michael Franco? I'm just kidding. Yeah, this guy. Okay. I never got off Michael Franco Island. You know that. You know that, too. I never doubted the guy.
Starting point is 00:17:43 But, I mean, he's crushing mistakes right now, which is good for him. Obviously, the disclaimer is that I want to see him go the other way more than once a month and have hard contact the other way. That's my only disclaimer. He can smoke any high and inside fastball over the wall as he wants. That's great. But the next step in him actually becoming a legitimate weapon on the scene is plate coverage and being able to take an outside pitch, go the other way hard and not
Starting point is 00:18:05 the the weak little stuff to the right side that jacked up his batting average of 270 like we don't want him to be Derek Jeter with the soft contact to the right field and and
Starting point is 00:18:13 fake his way to 3000 and no MVPs but I didn't say that wow good I just love it's good sticking the knife in. Segura, you saw the hustle today. You saw the good defense today. He's just going to be the guy that's like,
Starting point is 00:18:31 oh, finally a guy that doesn't strike out all the time. That's going to be awesome. Kingery can come off the bench and just be your super utility guy. Cesar Cesar, I mean, he's kind of Cesar. He's not fun. But he was solid. He's good today. He's good.
Starting point is 00:18:41 Again, that- And he's bulked up. The RBI hit was nice, but that walk was monster. It he was solid. He's good today. And he's bulked up. The RBI hit was nice, but that walk was monster. It was two outs. It felt like a throwaway at bat, and he worked a walk. Right, and then you have Hoskins at first, which is kind of the face of the team, the guy that came up through everything, the guy that's going to have like a
Starting point is 00:18:55 Howard-like season, 40 homers, 130 RBI, like that kind of season. Your big masher in the middle of the lineup. Modern-day bash pros. McGuire and Canseco with Harper and Hoskins. That's what it's going to be. And by the way, it flows off the tongue. Harper and Hoskins? It does.
Starting point is 00:19:11 It's the HH, the alliteration. High hopes. Yeah. Oh, man. Oh, goodness. Are we the three-four hitters for the Vays? I think we are. That's what we just came to. Also, how about Real Muto blocking every single ball that was thrown in the dirt? Like, oh my God.
Starting point is 00:19:29 All that is real. Like, he is awesome. I think Real Muto. And he's in command back there. The play, the Harper throw to home, like, that was just a great read of the situation. It was a good throw to home. Like, theoretically, you think you have a chance of that guy. He knew he didn't.
Starting point is 00:19:42 Came out. Took the throw. Made the play at second base. That was a big out. You want to get real nerdy with it oh you know i do after nola walked his third guy right out to the mound yo look at that yes see that's a picture thing yeah that was good that's really good that's great i think for me i think real amudo is going to be the the straw that serves a drink for this team i think so too like the culture guy the leadership guy he's not gonna be the most flashy guy but in that clubhouse he's gonna get everyone's respect the straw that serves a drink for this team. I think so too. The culture guy, the leadership guy,
Starting point is 00:20:05 all that stuff. He's not going to be the most flashy guy, but in that clubhouse, he's going to get everyone's respect. Well, and it's funny too, because like, he's only 28,
Starting point is 00:20:11 and yet he, that makes him like, other than McCutcheon, obviously like, he's like an old man compared to the rest of the squad. Right. He's going to be our Bregman, like from a standpoint of,
Starting point is 00:20:19 you know, Bregman's obviously amazing, has absolutely no holes in his game, kind of like Brillo Muto, but he's like, when people think of that team now, it's Correa, Altuve, Springer. They're the big, big flashy guys, like the former MVPs. And then Bregman is just like consistent, amazing.
Starting point is 00:20:37 And he's like that fiery inside the locker room team leader guy. He is the best. If there was one player in baseball who I could have be a Philly. Besides Mike Trout. Other than Mike. Who's a traitor now. Okay, yeah. Are we a pro Alex Bregman podcast? We are traitor now. Okay, yeah. Are we pro Alex Brangham in the podcast? We are pro...
Starting point is 00:20:47 Well, he's Jewish on top of that, so definitely my guy right there. But in terms of also from a personality, he seems like the best dude ever. Yeah. Of all in. I think Real Muto's going to be that kind of player for us.
Starting point is 00:21:00 Sure, he may not do the crazy flashy stuff, but every day, day in, day out, consistency, and inside that clubhouse, he's going to get everyone going. Just watching that team today, it was like everyone had this let's go. Let's go. We are here to win a division. And to your point earlier about McCutcheon and Harper and all these fun guys, it does, and not in a sense of like I'm saying they're going to win the World Series or anything,
Starting point is 00:21:26 but it has a little bit of that feel with the 2017 Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, where it's a bunch of guys you like. You know, it just felt like not only was that a team that, you know, broke through for us and won us a Super Bowl finally and all that, but it was a team full of good dudes who seemed to like each other
Starting point is 00:21:43 and also were guys that we liked and could root for it's like look you root for so many guys who maybe aren't the best dudes when you're a sports fan it just is what it is right it comes with the territory if you root for a team you're gonna at some point root for some guys whether you root hard for them or not they're on your team there are gonna be some guys aren't the best dudes this feels like a team full of good likable guys outside of pat neshek and jake arietta no but arietta is gonna be good this year i hope so no i think i think arietta has changed i understand why you say that but i i his mannerisms this spring i hope so i i that was more of uh i'm just throwing it in there but we'll see i'll'll defend Jake. Your boy.
Starting point is 00:22:25 What? Pitching the next game. I know. That was a very subdued I know. I should have been like, yeah! Brand new Pabeta! While today was a cute, cute day. It was a cute, adorable opening day.
Starting point is 00:22:40 The real opening day is Saturday. Let's just be honest with it. It's going to be the same kind of electricity. I mean, it's going to be 99 on the outside corner to get a strikeout in the first inning, and he's just going to mow them down. He's going to mow that Braves lineup down. Not even worried about it. Everyone's all in on breakout Pavetta.
Starting point is 00:22:58 Jeff Passan wrote an article today. I saw. He was the most coveted trade asset on the market this year. I am solely blaming that on Ben Harris and the Milwaukee Brewers because it was definitely Ben and Milwaukee who was like, you know what, Ben, heard you covered him. Should we steal him? And Ben was like, yes, I'm going to spite Jack Fritz and I'm going to steal Nick Pavetta.
Starting point is 00:23:18 It always comes back to you somehow. Yeah, I find a way to make it about me. Yeah, it's pretty impressive. You really can do some mental gymnastics to get there about me. Yeah, it's pretty impressive. You really can do some mental gymnastics to get there. I appreciate that. It's very impressive. Yeah, not many people can do it. Not many people can think as highly of themselves as I do.
Starting point is 00:23:35 By the way, I have an Is It Weird from this game. Oh, okay. Is It Weird? Joe Gigliano, I had to leave the game. I had to pick up Zoe and then I had to come in here to meet you to actually do this and to wait forever because it took a little while for the post-game show. I don't blame you.
Starting point is 00:23:49 Things out of my control. You know, Jim Jackson could have gone a little quicker, but I love Jim, so I won't rip him too much. But as I say that, I'm actually about to rip Jim Jackson, but not really. It's more of a pro-Scott Franski thing. But is it weird that as we left, it was the inning that Jim was calling and Harper was up, and I didn't want Harper to homer because I wanted Scott Franski to be able to call the first Harper homer.
Starting point is 00:24:15 We're going to hear that call a million times. Harper's first home run with the Phillies. I don't know. I love Jim Jackson, but I've been a little bummed if Scott Franski didn't get to call it. Is it weird? It's not weird. And I mean, Jim is someone that I love.
Starting point is 00:24:29 You're huge. You are like a huge Jim Jackson. I love Jim. You defend him all the time. I love Jim. But Franski, like that's a Franski moment. And just hearing
Starting point is 00:24:39 how happy Franski was like during the first couple innings and how he's turning off all the power in here? Not purposefully. I was trying to unplug my phone charger because I have to leave any minute because my wife's going to kill me. I was supposed to be home for five minutes from now. Okay.
Starting point is 00:24:56 I don't live five minutes from here, but go ahead. Okay. We'll wrap it up. Yes. You can call me, but that sounds silly. No, no, no. It's already 25 minutes. Okay.
Starting point is 00:25:05 We'll do more podcasts okay we have 162 games of a playoff of a playoff caliber but uh but yeah jim franski moment it's a franski moment and he was so happy and la was back and it was just like i cannot wait for playoff so you agree with me on that it's not weird it's not weird okay it's not weird i love jim but that's a francie thing all right final thought final thought is go phil's i don't know i mean i like you don't need a final i'm so happy for how about this 10-4 on our way to 162 and zero well at least we're one and zero i'm closer to 100 wins though i like it i was at 92 and i feel bad i i feel like that's low. After game one, overreaction theater, baby. I feel like that's too low.
Starting point is 00:25:49 I'm going to forget the Hector Neris moment today. Yeah. Not going to talk about it. It's Matt Joyce. Matt Joyce crushes righties. Not his fault. Yeah, Matt Joyce is so good. He's on three different spring trainings.
Starting point is 00:25:58 Matt Joyce is still in the league just hit right in at pitching. So, come on. Matt Joyce is on three different spring training teams this year. Oh. So. All right. For Jack Fritz, I'm James Seltzer. For the 1-0 Philadelphia Phillies, we'll be back next week.
Starting point is 00:26:12 React to the weekend and all that. We love all you people. Get ready for breakout Pavetta on Saturday. Brand new Pavetta. The real opening day. All right. We'll talk to you guys later. All-star closer, Kenley Jansen. We have a question. All right, we'll talk to you guys later. It's my passion. It's a cause I started more than two years ago. It is now the most prolific national daily baseball pod there is.
