Starting point is 00:01:27 Yo. It is another edition of the I Hopes podcast. Podcast. Podcast. Podcast. Yeah, the podcast. Podcast sponsored by Miller Lite. Official sponsors philadelphia philly's he's like miller time philadelphia celebrate responsibly let's talk fishing buddy getting good bass this weekend so i actually was a big fisherman back
Starting point is 00:01:56 in the day i could totally see that yeah and then you know baseball started taking over and i just didn't have time to get out there and cast some lines. But yeah, I am. I'm excited to teach walk out of it. I could see you being a fly fisherman out there. I can't fly fish. The mood. I'm a,
Starting point is 00:02:13 I'm a flounder's men and a small mouth. That makes sense. Yeah. I see that. Yeah. Yeah. So if I had had to guess what you were, you know,
Starting point is 00:02:21 and you know, the problem, other problem is too consumed in the phone. I mean, if I could just put your hand right now, go fishing, you know and you know the problem other problem is just too consumed in the phone go fishing you know have a couple miller i'm pretty good about like ignoring the like especially on the weekends i'll kind of just forget about it be like all right you know what you can hear from me on monday i feel like after 40 yeah that can let me tell you it's pretty nice i know i'm kind of i'm kind of a fan of i'm good i wish good on that one day watch baseball hang out with the fam family man watch the phillies make up for the nlcs right by winning two or three made up for it's
Starting point is 00:02:58 like last year all the pain all the pain that we endured in October of last year. It was a way. I did not feel that way Friday. Friday was excruciating. What a horrible baseball game. They should have swept this week. It was cool, Mike. All the cool stuff was perfect. It was great. The whole ceremony.
Starting point is 00:03:19 We talked about the 09 thing. A little weird. But the ceremony was great. The cold was great. It was awesome seeing everyone there and having choo-choo in the booth the whole thing was was super fun and then it was like oh taiwan we're back to take your time taiwan at least at least we've got that bag take your time taiwan yeah uh that hashtag is definitely coming back it's coming back yeah and because it was like it was just like it was excruciating. It felt like back to back to back. Oh, I know. It was technically not. I know.
Starting point is 00:03:50 Listen, sometimes pitchers just lose it and sometimes it's just a sunk cost and he can spend as much time as he wants trying to find the splitter in the bullpen. Everything just is... It's the blister though, Jack.
Starting point is 00:04:05 It'll be fine. Right, right, right. It is. I appreciate it. It was so funny, dude. Rob Thompson after the game, like, yeah, we're going to see if he's healthy. And Taiwan's like, I'm fine.
Starting point is 00:04:12 I'm 100% healthy. And then the next day it's like, oh, yep, got a thing. Blister thing. Yeah, blister. I love that. This is definitely it. Well, my favorite line that Rob threw in there,
Starting point is 00:04:22 I think it was like, sorry when he threw in the little like, yeah, we think the blister might have been like the reason he's been struggling to begin with. I read some version of that. It was like, come on, man. Even though three starts ago. Come on.
Starting point is 00:04:31 It's best start of the season in London. In London. So the Londoners, they saw the best pitch of the year. They did. They did. Here's my question for you. Take the whole weekend series. Worst pitcher we saw, because I'm not sure which way to go.
Starting point is 00:04:44 Was it Tywon Walker or Tucker Barnhart? Because pretty close. It was pretty close. weekend series worst pitcher we saw because i'm not sure which way to go was it taiwan walker or tucker barnhart because pretty close it was pretty cool i mean it felt like i was kind of watching taiwan walker when when tucker was lollipopping it in there i appreciate tucker barnhart because you know what he did gave david doll he led david doll he right back up that dude that he's slugging slugging over 500 i'm just saying no big deal big deal. The dollhouse, baby. The dollhouse. So the Taiwan thing is, like, again, I think we know where this is trending. They're probably going to have to cut him. Or attach a prospect to him and trade him away.
Starting point is 00:05:18 Sure. But even if they don't want to eat the money. It's not even about at a deadline this year. It's more about the offseason. They can get through this season with Taiwan. Look, he will not be a part of the playoffs. He won't be a part of the money. It's not even about at a deadline this year. It's more about the offseason. They can get through this season with Tywon. He will not be a part of the playoffs. He will be irrelevant in the playoffs. I think in the offseason, they're going to have
Starting point is 00:05:32 to do something. Where this organization is heading, pitching-wise, you're going to have your four. We'll get to the Sanchez extension. Ranger is going to be here. Hopefully, they can get an extension done with him. Either way, he'll be here next year for sure 100 and then there's painter and like you're not keeping andrew painter out of rotation well yeah and that's not even talking about all the other guys
Starting point is 00:05:52 that you got like the clausens and the other people are you know low low but still like down the road all stuff you know that especially the point of the sam we'll get to the specifics of the sanchez deal but just thinking about it in a macro sense, you've got Wheeler for the next five years, about four more after this, wherever, signed. Nola, another six years after this, signed. Sanchez now through up to 2030, signed. You signed Ranger, which I think they will get a deal done. Bowden reporting, they're talking to him. It just made... And I know Ranger has made himself a lot of money. He sure has. He sure has. And it would be maybe smart for him to see if he can get to the market.
Starting point is 00:06:25 Like, I think that I think they will figure out a way to get it done if they do. I mean, you're talking about only, and again, injuries happen. You can never have enough pitchers, but theoretically going into each year for the next five years with four
Starting point is 00:06:37 fifths of your rotation set, no matter what monetarily speaking, especially that like it's painter for sure for the fifth of these here, but it's like the point being that you're really speaking especially, that like, yeah, it's Painter for sure for the 50s here, but it's the point being that you're really limiting that, you know, need for starting pitching outside of the overall you always need. Which is boring, you know? It's not your thing.
Starting point is 00:06:55 There is a hand. You're surprising. Because I really, like, there's so many pitchers that I want to bring in and see if we can fix, but we don't need them. We don't need them. So, listen. All right. We'll get to the
Starting point is 00:07:05 Diamondbacks series, but can we talk about the future of this rotation for one second? Yeah, I think we already are. I know. I think that's what we're doing. I think that's what we're doing. It's just sick, dude. It is sick. Like, Chris Sanchez has pitched to an all-star caliber Phillies. He's got the second best ERA in the National League. Tucker tweeted this yesterday.
Starting point is 00:07:21 I know, all three. They have the top three. They have the world to be living in. I love seeing when Tucker throws one out to get some traction. Oh, yeah. Because he's good with the facts and the little... Every once in a while. Every once in a while, he gets heat. Yeah. And when you're tweeting out the flag...
Starting point is 00:07:37 Flames were coming off his fingers as he tweeted that one out. He knew where that was going. It was that tweet, the flag, right? From opening day. My biggest tweet was the fanatic. Yeah, with the Rolling Stones. The Rolling Stones used it in their concert. His tweet. That's our guy. How do you not pay attention
Starting point is 00:07:53 to what our guy's got going on? Someone on this podcast had more social media attraction than me. That's not allowed. That's not allowed. You know it wasn't me. Only about Pete Alonzo. Six years ago. My best tweet. that's not allowed so you know it wasn't me having anything that's that joke only about Peter Lonzo six years ago
Starting point is 00:08:06 but but yeah well okay so that one and the and the and I'll which they moved
Starting point is 00:08:14 did you see that oh did they they uh they hit it on the right field bleachers smart they put a pride flag up where it was
Starting point is 00:08:20 and they moved it behind the right field bleachers it's probably going back at the end of the month maybe yeah it's possible yeah but the future of the rotation is is just insane i mean well and how about i like it let's talk about the future rotation but now let's just get in the contract then then we'll get to the nine max we i mean and look chris has to be good and he has to keep getting good and all that but but it feels like the first braves contract we got like it's
Starting point is 00:08:41 not the acuna contract or whatever but this is the first time with our guys with our team first of all just a smart move we know that you're buying out the arby's you're buying out free agent years but when you look at what the actual money is it's like how did he sign this i know you get a little bit uh uh you know not a little bit a lot of security you go from making hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars that's a massive thing but like what a contract for the phillies i mean if he's anything close to the guy we're seeing this year it is a home run contract well and just the fact that he came to them i thought was really fascinating like i guess it's before yeah sure man yeah
Starting point is 00:09:15 yeah cool man it's before london like london was three weeks ago nuts and they're like yeah sure we'll do that sounds great so yeah well and and he's obviously looking to cash in on what was a uh you know because it's funny they did talk about how i mean a year ago he's viewed as like i just throw him in there and see yes he was started like an opener he kind of started as and then just kind of kept it i was like i was doing three now he's going forward i was you know i mean like it was out of nowhere yeah and you know he's always looking to cash in and, and look, I don't blame anyone in that situation.
Starting point is 00:09:47 He has, he is setting up his, his, cause like on a basic level, you could tear his ACL or yeah, his ACL. Sure. Nice.
Starting point is 00:09:54 I meant his UCL. Yeah. You could tear his UCL and then, you know, he's not going to make that kind of money and see out for a year and a half, whatever. Like I get the wanting the security, but from the Phillies perspective,
Starting point is 00:10:04 like what a, what a great deal. And then he, and then he shoved right after that well yeah he was great he was he was awesome he's had a lot of really good starts that was like the from pitch one because usually especially coming off the wall you know like the weekend we'd had it was like yeah dude go out and shove because chris sanchez it seems like wants to start like pitches his way into trouble and then like you know finds his way out of it and that didn't happen yesterday he was just like money from from pitch one so he's dominant but you know i i am curious i just can't envision ranger ever not being a philly you know what i mean so like because when when the when the sanchez contract came down i was like man you know they're paying all these guys and ranger he doesn't need to sign right now because like he's pitching his way into maybe getting a
Starting point is 00:10:48 hundred million dollar contract so it's like smart but you know like are they going to be able to afford Ranger because you already have the first three you have Painter coming do you is it like a luxury thing right now but at the same time I think Ranger and the Phillies would do what it takes to make sure that that he stays here so the few rotation you have wheeler nola ranger chris sanchez and then andrew painter who was the number one pitching prospect in baseball before he before he got hurt with the tommy john like i don't think it was skeens level like i i anticipate andrew painter coming up showing flashes struggling and then like two years from now he takes over as the ace of the staff, or one of the ace of the staff, because Wheeler's still here.
Starting point is 00:11:28 The future of the rotation is just so... It's ridiculous. And they don't have... There's no obvious hole. The fact that Andrew Painter is your quote-unquote five is... It's
Starting point is 00:11:44 insane. It's insane so i mean they're just set up so well and then like you i think you have such confidence in the in the like infrastructure that obviously you could draft guys you have clausen coming you have you know some other guys but also look what they don't spend to turnbull you can't spend turnbull $2 million deal once they they figure out what they're going to do with taiwan and you know kind of i don't think he's going to be here next year i don't either i think they'll keep him through the roster for the rest of the year they i wouldn't be surprised if he's back in the rotation oh i think he will be when i mean what else you're going to do with him you can't pitch out the bullpen like you can't like
Starting point is 00:12:19 you literally can and i mean again and look if the division gets tight, maybe some starts get skipped or whatever, but if you've got a six, seven, eight, even five game lead or whatever, it probably just makes sense to eat up those innings. People might not like it, but you know, look, and for what it's worth, you know, I don't know his exact record as a Philly, but they've won a lot more games than they've lost when he's pitched as a feeling you know it just is what it is taiwan yes i just everything's so good with the team and then every time he pitches i know it feels like it comes to a a halt it did feel like one of those classic like four nothing they're down for nothing oh yeah come back and win and they should have won they should have won i mean the bright the bryce at bat was the one where it was really like the bases loaded yeah
Starting point is 00:13:04 now and i don't blame whatever happens, but the double play in that spot, it was like, all right, that was it. And I know they still had chances. And, you know, they got the Chorber-Homer late to die, whatever. It was Cassie. Yeah, Cassie, whatever. And they were there. They were there.
Starting point is 00:13:19 But I felt like that moment with Harper, it felt like the stadium was ready to explode. It felt like this was the moment here. And the double play, it was like, oh. Yeah. It's not our day. ready to explode. It felt like it was like this was the moment here and the double play. It was like yeah, it's not our day. Hashtag feels like a loss. Yes, it did. That was it. That was a loss. That was such a feels like a loss moment. I was like, oh, we're losing and it stunk because
Starting point is 00:13:33 Anthony gave an extra run late on that dude to the freaking Ryan Thompson. Is that his name or this? Yeah, I hate it. He is like I want him to be a Philly so bad like that dude is just he's freaking nasty man and I feel like against the Phillies at least whenever he to be a Philly so bad. Like that dude is just, he's fricking nasty, man. And I feel like against the Phillies,
Starting point is 00:13:48 at least whenever he comes in a big spot, he's getting us out. Now Cassie did take him yard, which was shocking. Yes. Cause like that kind of guy, I feel like it's impossible for Cassie to, for him.
Starting point is 00:13:56 I feel like that kind of guy for him and boom, like boom with, with heavy sink. He just can't, he can't lift it. It just ends up being the Alec bone, like ripping the base. You just can't lift it. It just ends up being the Alec foam, like, ripping the base off the ground. But, yeah, listen. Don't eat it too well on Friday.
Starting point is 00:14:12 Although, the Hamels thing was cool. It was very cool. I did go down. Oh, look at you. Made an appearance. Yeah. You know, let the people say hi. Well, I just, you know.
Starting point is 00:14:23 I always wanted to be, like, there for our guys. You know what I mean? So like, I went to the, uh, 19, I went to the 10 year anniversary, the 19. I tried it.
Starting point is 00:14:31 I think I was at a wedding for, for Utley retirement night, which was brutal. Cause I want to be there for that. Um, but it was cool. Like, uh,
Starting point is 00:14:39 the ballpark was juice. It's, it's nice that the, it's nice that the team's good now. So that when they say... Oh, I know. So it's not just packed because of that ceremony and nothing else. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:50 And it's like the players can... Like Hamels can legitimately say it's their turn rather than the team stinking and be like, eh, go get them. Love the fans. Pick them up. Yeah. There's like 15,000 people there for like the greats of the franchise being retired. But it really, it really does, you know, put that era officially to bed.
Starting point is 00:15:13 I mean, he was the last one. He's hanging on. He was trying. Yeah, he really did try. I mean, the Braves thing, obviously, then the Padres, the Dodgers in there. No, I don't think it's the Dodgers. No, he just never made it to the majors. He was in the minors. That's my point. He was in the minors with the Dodgers, minors with the Padres with their the Dodgers and they're like, no, I don't think it's not. No, he just never made some majors. He was in the minors with that's my point.
Starting point is 00:15:26 He was in the Myers with the Dodgers minors with the 99 percent. You can look at it. I'm almost positive. I'm almost would you like to bet before we look it up? No, I see. I said, yeah, he was in the Dodgers system too. So the point was he really tried and
Starting point is 00:15:41 you know, he hadn't thrown a pitch since 2020. I know and it was like and I respect that, you know, like we've always talked about it. Like, you know he hadn't thrown a pitch since 2020 i know and it was like and i respect that you know like we've always talked about it like you know it's the you have such a whatever sport and you know baseball may be a little longer in football but you have such a a short period of time in your life to do the thing that you're best at like comparatively to the rest of your life it's it's i'll never blame people for hanging on but yeah at the end it was like cole man it ain't gonna ain't going to happen anymore, buddy. I'm really sorry for you.
Starting point is 00:16:06 But he seems, I mean... He seems happy. He seems very content with how it all played out. And Gelb wrote the other day about how he wants to get involved in the organization. You could tell when we had him on the show in London when he came with me and Joe, like, he talked about that.
Starting point is 00:16:21 He talked about, like, now that he's kind of just, he's, like, starting to figure out what he wants out of life. And he's like, I want to be around the Phillies. Like I want to be involved in this. And like, and you could tell it was something that he'd been thinking. Yeah. Well, listen, just come into the organization, teach everyone how to throw the change up and then, you know, you're good.
Starting point is 00:16:37 That's all you need to do. That was cool too. Uh, we played an interview with from a year ago and we had him on the morning show and he was talking about his pitches and he was talking about A.J. Burnett helping him with the cutter, or maybe it was Cliff helping him with the cutter, and Burnett with the... He was talking about how important it was to go from being a two-to-and-a-half-pitch pitcher to be able to sustain his career. And he was talking about how the guys on the... How he was with Halliday with this, and how they were helping him with grips and stuff. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:01 I love that guy. That's great. Right? Like, baseball nerd-wise, when you hear about Roy Hall halliday helping cole hamels with the pitch grip it's like yeah dude like give me that all of it well you know who taught you know who taught halliday the cutter right i i this is one of those things i've heard and i forget was it was it was it mariano it was mario but he was already and all the yankees players were mad at him yeah because he was already roy halliday and then mares players were mad at him. Yeah. Because he was already Roy Alladay.
Starting point is 00:17:25 And then Mariano taught him the cutter. And they were like, are you kidding me? Like, you don't have to teach him that at all. Like, he's going to figure it out on his own. Oh, that's great. But yeah, no. And I think Max Freed talked a lot about how Cole really helped him when he was with the Braves, obviously, which is still hard.
Starting point is 00:17:44 Weird, yeah. When he's still there. I saw some quote because I was looking up. I wasves, obviously, which is still weird. He's still there. I saw some quote because I was looking up. I was trying to think the return or whatever. I was trying to find a piece of audio. And it was like Cole Hamill's quote was like, I can't, I'm just here to help the Braves win ballgames. That's not allowed.
Starting point is 00:17:58 That's not allowed. But, you know, Max Free talked a lot about how Cole really helped him get to the next level. And, you know, they have, like, I think Wheeler is obviously the stalwart of the staff. But having a guy that has obviously done it like Cole around is just smart. And when you have the players that they had during that run still wanting to be a part of the organization, they'll find a way to take care of them. Oh, yeah. I think they call you on your buddy. We'll figure it out.
Starting point is 00:18:23 Yeah. Even if just they come to a few games. Yeah, buddy. We'll figure it out. Yeah. Even if just come to a few games and wave to people will be ecstatic. And look, it is also I think it says something great about the organization. I think John Middleton deserves a lot of credit
Starting point is 00:18:32 for the whole infrastructure. And look, we talked about a lot of with the Sixers on the opposite end of it, where it's like, I know I know this came up on the morning show a lot, but watching like the Knicks
Starting point is 00:18:41 games at MSG and seeing like viewing and stocked and like all these old Knicks players were there and you go to a and Stockton, all these old Knicks players were there. You go to a Sixers game, there's AI, maybe Doc. That's pretty much it. The Phillies are
Starting point is 00:18:52 awesome at that. These guys are around and they're part of it. To your point, I think the key thing you said there is they want to be a part of it. That's awesome. It was really cool on Friday and he gave a good speech. He didn't land the Mets line. i think it it's such a bummer because like it it just felt it felt forced it felt like because you're not chased too and it was not like you know it just felt
Starting point is 00:19:15 like he's like i need a joke in here i'm gonna rip the mets you know that kind of thing yeah but like it just didn't line up with everything else yeah well he stumbled on the line before it too and i think it kind of threw him off yeah that's right and then i just i love carlos ah he's so likable he's just such a likable guy you know and i thought they were great in the booth together you could see you could just feel their kind of connection you know right so it was cool it was cool and then taiwan put them out and there was a lot of jokes ruined it there's a lot of jokes. Ruined it. There was a lot of jokes. It's like, whoa, I can't coke it out there instead of Taiwan. I was like, I don't know, man. It's actually not a terrible idea.
Starting point is 00:19:51 It's not bad. That says something right there. It says something, yeah. Hey, fantasy football owners. The road to winning your fantasy football championship starts now. Shout out to the bullpen.
Starting point is 00:20:27 The bullpen pitched pretty well after that. Really all weekend other than off, running to a little issue yesterday. That was weird, dude. So weird. I was like, what is this? What is happening? It felt so strange watching it.
Starting point is 00:20:37 He was getting like... He was getting tagged, dude. I swear to God. Even the outs were like deep fly ball outs and stuff like that. What is happening right now? Because I'm in a very comfortable place with Jeff. I felt like no issues with Jeff. And I still don't.
Starting point is 00:20:49 Scariest thing from the weekend. Scariest thing from the weekend. I was like, hold on. Hold on. You can't. What just happened? Don't you start. We need you.
Starting point is 00:20:57 You and Strom, like you guys, like I need you two. Like you two have to be what you are because it's something that i i i count on with all of my soul you know yeah yeah i trust yeah offman and strom again kind of sounds like a law firm but it's actually a pretty strong law good offman and strom yeah you know you know you're winning whatever it's pretty good but yeah getting like squared up yesterday it was it was a bit jarring yeah it was a bit jarring i know they took bit jarring. I know they took two or three. I know the NLCS were all over it. Everything's fine.
Starting point is 00:21:28 It's fine. You're seeing him get hit around a little bit. It was a good weekend for the run differential. It was a good weekend for the run differential. You lose by one. You win by 11. You win by three. I'll score by 13 and a two of three.
Starting point is 00:21:42 Not too bad. I'll take that. There you go. Best run differential in baseball. What else really matters? They are back to the best record in baseball not too bad. I'll take that. There you go. Best run differential in baseball. Like what else really matters? And they are back to the best record of baseball. They are. They are.
Starting point is 00:21:48 Yeah. I do want that. Like I, it shouldn't matter. You want it for the world series and you want like, you know, home field, Amanda,
Starting point is 00:21:57 like it feels like this has been such a great year at the end of the year. And they went like one Oh four, but the Dodgers went like one Oh six. It'll just be like, huh? What? No, no, no,
Starting point is 00:22:04 I don't care at all. Because ultimately, if they don't get done, it just sets up more pain. Yeah. I look to avoid as much pain as possible. Well, it's going to be impossible. Yeah, I know.
Starting point is 00:22:15 I know. Unless they do what needs to be done. They just have to. They have to. All right, let's get some other stuff from the weekend in general the cast the odd streak he's been pretty good for you know close to a month not quite about three weeks whatever and and obviously over the weekend especially if you take the four a game
Starting point is 00:22:34 right before the weekend kind of locked in right now you know he is what he is he's obviously streaky but here's my question to you do you think there is a version of Castellanos now moving forward where the bad isn't as bad, isn't as horrible as it's been? And maybe we get a little bit more of the, the positive streaks, or do you think it's just total? Like who the hell knows?
Starting point is 00:22:59 Well, I feel like he's the hardest player to get a read on in terms of like, other than, he's streaky of anyone. I remember in recent years, like it's really hard to, to he'll get hot, but no matter,
Starting point is 00:23:09 even when he's hot, like you're looking for a consistency. I'm looking for when he goes to the plate. I don't have fear every single time. That's kind of where I'm. Well, I don't think that's going to happen. Like,
Starting point is 00:23:19 I think he's like, cause I think he's just, I think he's just streaky. I think it just kind of is what he is. And you hope that his hot streaks come at the right time. The biggest thing in watching them this weekend is just the continued want to get a guy in the middle of the lineup that could just push everyone down. Just get one extra guy.
Starting point is 00:23:45 You know what I mean? Even with Boehm. Boehm's heated back up. Imagine Boehm. Just get one extra guy. You know what I mean? Even with Boehm. Boehm's heated back up. But imagine Boehm was the five-hole. It puts less. There's less of a magnifying glass, I guess, on if Castellanos struggles. If Stott can't figure it out. If Boehm goes back.
Starting point is 00:24:00 If they could just get one more real bat. Real bat. It could be Luisis robert could not whatever but even like taylor ward we were texting about him this weekend taylor ward if even if it's like big taylor ward tyler o'neill yeah well dude tank jobs like i for sure for sure but just someone someone who strikes a little bit of fear into the opposing pitcher where like that guy could in the case of tyler o'neill hit any pitch out of the ballpark that guy taylor ward like it's a good hitter like i can't i can't just go up a patient righty yeah a patient right a little pop like taylor ward's good hitter he's
Starting point is 00:24:34 good he's good it's just they still and in the lineup had a good weekend a lot of the guys are hitting well cassia but it's just to to give yourself a little bit of insurance and a little bit of hedge. Just one more real bat. One more real bat. Because everything else is there. Rotation, we know, is there. Bullpen's there. If you want to go get a bullpen arm, knock yourself out.
Starting point is 00:24:57 Sure. Okay. I mean, if you want to get it closer, go ahead. But getting one more bat just so that if Castellanos gets cold in the postseason, if Boehm gets cold in the postseason, but also maybe the hitter you acquire gets cold and those guys are fine. That's where we're at with this team where it's just one more real bopper to drop everyone else down or get them into more comfortable roles
Starting point is 00:25:21 because Castellanos in the two holes is obviously dreadful, but that won't happen again because Trey's back and looks pretty good, by the way. The homer, that might have been the best thing that happens to him was seeing him knock when I was like, all right. You still got it. We're good. You still got it, but they still look like one more bat and just kind of
Starting point is 00:25:38 giving them a little bit of more insurance for a lineup that we've seen have a talking culture. Yeah. I mean, again, there were multiple things that contributed to them losing that series last year against the Dimebacks. Probably the biggest one is their batches going cold in the last two games.
Starting point is 00:25:53 Especially after being so hot. They're the best offense in the history of postseason baseball. Yes, through game two of the NLCS and then no more. Dude, Friday just brought brought all the bad memories. I know. Because I had it in the series.
Starting point is 00:26:09 Like, ah, it's kind of indifferent on the Diamondbacks. You know, whatever. Yeah, they haven't been very good. They're under 500. There's more we lost the series than they, like, won the series. They didn't win the World Series. It makes it a little easier to deal with. They going on to win the World Series would be that much worse.
Starting point is 00:26:21 And then Friday night, like, erased all of it. Like, it all the all the the hatred towards the time back so um but like you know saturday and yesterday were good yesterday yesterday felt like they were gonna like early in the game they left a million runners on base and it's like one nothing until like this oh yeah here we go like this is this is a classic you shouldn't have lost this game but they lose two or three of the dime backs, but they didn't, they came through big. So again,
Starting point is 00:26:47 I don't think David doll is the, the extra option we're talking about as a big bopper off the bench. But man, it's just the, the, the clear, the clear, they got to go.
Starting point is 00:26:59 Oh, it's such a, like they have to like it. And I think they will, like we've talked about, I think, and look, and it's,
Starting point is 00:27:04 I think they need a little bit more power than this guy, but it's what Whitmerryfield was supposed to be. If Whitmerryfield wasn't batting 192, maybe we would be less insistent on going out and needing a bat. I think they would still need a bat, but they might have to get two. I mean, we'll see. Bowden's talked about, but they absolutely need it. They absolutely need another bat they can trust.
Starting point is 00:27:24 Insider of the year, Jim Bowden, by the way. It's been a hot... He's clearly got a source in the Phillies front office. That's for damn sure. Hot start to the trade deadline season for Jim Bowden. How about just the Phillies being in on stuff? We're really good now. So if we actually get to your point,
Starting point is 00:27:40 be in on all these rumors. Have fun. Enjoy a trade deadline. Sit on the, sit on the NLB TV and switch to all the games and try to see who we like versus who we don't like.
Starting point is 00:27:50 It's going to be great. Well, that's what I, that was what I texted you like 1245. It was shockingly late. Morning. I was like,
Starting point is 00:27:55 I just watched Taylor Ward get an RBI hit in the 10th. I need him. I'm ready. I know. I know. Yeah. It's a late night for you.
Starting point is 00:28:01 I know. I know. Just power through on Fridays and Saturdays. Yeah. Cause like now I, it, you know what it is? It's one of those things. Is it a point of pride? it's a late night for you i know i know just power through on your fridays and saturdays i see yeah because like now i it you know what it is it's one of those at a point of pride no no it's a point of i feel like i miss out so much by having to go to bed so early during the week that on the weekends i'm like i'm not missing out i'm watching sports i'm watching movies i'm like staying up to watch whatever i can like and then i get you know get myself in trouble like a true high school i know
Starting point is 00:28:24 i am i become like a high school student. I'm like, no, I'm going to eat candy and I'm going to watch TV. You can't tell me when to go to bed, mom. That's exactly right. That's Tucker. That's Tucker on the weekend. That's really it. Yes.
Starting point is 00:28:35 You nailed that. A 42-year-old with a five-year-old. I got nothing else to say. What I will say, come to Wilmington with us. Yeah, buddy. Yeah. We, July 3rd, if you haven't seen, check out on Twitter, Jax tweeted it out.
Starting point is 00:28:48 We have a section, plural now, for us, the Wilmington, see, I always do the blue coats and the blue rocks. Thank you. I always get those. The Wilmington Blue Rocks have set up sections for us. We're going to go down, watch
Starting point is 00:29:04 Aiden Miller, Justin Crawford, the Blue Claws play. Hopefully Claws. Hopefully Claws. And figure another five no-hit innings. Yeah, no big deal. But we're going to go. We're going to cheer on our guys, make some noise for Aiden,
Starting point is 00:29:17 Justin, those guys. And coming out with us, we've got a lot of people coming. And there's fireworks. And there's fireworks. And we're all going to hang. It's going to be awesome. We're bringing our families down. If you ever heard stories about Zoe and you want to see this psycho child, guess what?
Starting point is 00:29:31 She'll be there running up and down the aisle. Yeah, she'll be like the mascot of the whole segment. Well, listen, they have a celery race down there. Zoe would race in a second. Zoe is still not... You know that anyone old, at least of a certain age, we all remember that moment
Starting point is 00:29:48 when you find out that you're not the fastest person in the world. When you're like, oh, someone beats you in a race, and you're like, oh, I'm not faster than everyone. I thought I was. I never had that issue.
Starting point is 00:29:58 Oh, so I did. I feel like most kids do. Zoe thinks she's the fastest person in the world. She would be pretty, pretty sad when she found out. She's got a lot of confidence in herself, which is a good thing. Wonder where she gets that from. Wonder where she gets
Starting point is 00:30:12 that from. Let's get the take back in a minute here. First, shout out to the Miller Lite account of the week. Today's show is sponsored by Miller Lite and Tradesman's in Center City. We are men's fans across the board. Tradesman's a great name. Check out Tradesman's for every Phillies game. Enjoy their Miller Lite and Tradesman's in Center City. I mean, we are men's fans across the board. Tradesman's a great name.
Starting point is 00:30:26 Check out Tradesman's for every Phillies game. Enjoy their Miller Lite bucket special. I'm also a bucket man. That's good stuff there. And they're pulled pork sandow with cheddar cheese and long hot. Are you in on calling sandwiches sand? So Miller Lite's for Philly's and Celebrate your sons. They actually wrote sandow in here.
Starting point is 00:30:41 So that's why I'm I don't know. That's why I said it that way. And I was like, I'm not sure how I feel about this see i can't pull off the sand no i'm not cool now it's sammy you'll hear people call them sammies i'll throw a sammy around i'm sometimes a sammy's man yeah i've never gone sandeman i do sammies with breakfast sammies yes breakfast sammies exactly what's your go-to breakfast i mean i'm a bacon egg and cheese guy you know it really is the best sandwich it It's just the best sandwich. It's just the best.
Starting point is 00:31:07 I'm a bagelsman, obviously, but I could do it on anything. You want to give me a Kaiser roll? You want to give me an English muffin? I can't do the Kaiser. I'm a bagelsman. The problem with the Kaiser is that's a burger. I agree. I'm saying I could do anything. Give me a long roll. I don't care.
Starting point is 00:31:23 What's your go-to bagel? Everything is what Emily likes. We me a long roll. I don't care. Go to bagel. So. I mean, everything is what Emily likes. We have a lot of everything bagels in our house, but I like egg bagels. I love egg. I think egg bagels are so underrated. Why can't we get the egg bagel with everything? That's what I'm saying.
Starting point is 00:31:38 Everything. One out of 10 bag. One of 15 bagel stores will have it and I'll get like 12. I'm like, give me that. It's the best bagel. Yeah. And there are some fraudulent places that do not put salt on their everything bagel stores will have it and I'll get like 12 of them. I'm like, give me that. It's the best bagel I could possibly have. And there are some fraudulent places that do not put salt on their everything bagel and that drives me nuts.
Starting point is 00:31:50 It's not an everything bagel. It's an everything bagel. Drives me up a wall. I will say a Scrapple egg and cheese is also phenomenal. So I've never had a Scrapple egg and cheese. I'm a Scrapple guy. You're a Scrapple man? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:02 Now, I don't know what it is. I don't think anyone does. Honestly, I don't know what it is. I don't think anyone does. Honestly, I think it's a trade secret. A little ketchup on there. I have no problem with Scrapple. I've just never had a Scrapple egg. Well, it's just like a Scrapple. Yeah, I'm sure.
Starting point is 00:32:16 With egg and cheese. I can imagine it, what it's like. Yes. What is that like? Gee, it's totally different. Gee willikers. Yeah. That's probably the only person to ever do that.
Starting point is 00:32:26 I know. Yeah. I know. All right, you ready? I've been ready. There was nothing funnier to me this weekend than having to hear TMAC call two games right down the middle, and when they hit the back...
Starting point is 00:32:39 Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Like, listen, this is not a shot at TMAC. We love TMAC. A little too excited on some of the home runs on Friday night. Yeah, it's like, I, yeah. Like, listen, this is not a shot at TMAC. We love TMAC. A little too excited on some of the home runs on Friday night. It's like, I get it. You're trying to, you know, do the journalist thing or the broadcaster thing, you know. No.
Starting point is 00:32:54 No. Favoritism. Do what we do here. Are you kidding me? I need you downtrodden, TMAC. I need you downtrodden. And it's cool. I need that.
Starting point is 00:33:03 Yeah. What? Again, where are they going to put the next baseball game on i mean roku roku channel yeah so it's ridiculous actually i've grown to like apple tv games yeah they're pretty good at least they try stuff you know and so sometimes they do the national broadcast on those games i listen to t-mac and croc but the the beauty is you can get the franskin la button in the bottom, right?
Starting point is 00:33:26 Amazing, which is perfectly synced. And the cameras are really, that's what I was about to say. The cameras are so much better and they have cool shots. He won't get like following guys after they have the Homer into the dog out or whatever. Like,
Starting point is 00:33:36 like you just get like, it's a cooler viewing baseball game in a lot of ways. So I'm with you on, but the Roku thing, it was just MLB network. Like all the MLB network, like, you know, things. things yeah it didn't feel different or special or whatever just felt like i actually didn't i didn't mind the uh the diamondbacks guy i thought he's all right it's candy yadi yeah that's tom candy yadi one of the knuckleballers from our lifetime
Starting point is 00:33:58 i was growing up he was like a legit knuckleballer yes if it's not an r.i.p i was such a wakefield guy yeah like wakefield's my knuckleball well candy yadi it's not an rip i was such a wakefield guy yeah like wakefield's mine well candy out it was before wakefield and i was i wasn't a huge ra dicky guy yeah yeah he threw too hard it was like it didn't feel like a true i want to read i want a knuckleballer over 65 miles an hour what are we doing here yeah yeah it's like that waldron guy on the you'd be a knuckleballer or not you or not. You can't have 95 in your holster and also throw a knuckleball. That's a fantastic take. I agree with this
Starting point is 00:34:29 100%. Tom Kinney was a real knuckleballer. A true blue knuckleballer. He had a good career. He was around for a while. Knuckleballers, they're not real pitchers. I get it. Don't worry. I always had that take in college.
Starting point is 00:34:44 Why don't you learn how to throw one if you're such aners. I get it. Don't worry. They're not real pitchers. I always had that take in college. And they go, why don't you learn how to throw one if you're such an athlete? Well, I can't. Yeah. So. It looks really hard to do. It's hard to do. And it's probably like really.
Starting point is 00:34:53 Yeah. You know. Yeah. I don't know. But either way, if you're good enough at throwing a knuckleball to do it in the major leagues,
Starting point is 00:34:58 that's pretty cool. You're pretty good. That's pretty cool. And when you watch like a real, not that I've faced it, but when you watch videos of like a real knuckleball. I have no idea how they hit it. It's, it's, it's wild to watch. And when you watch like a real, not that I've faced a true, but when you watch videos, I'm like a real knuckleball. I have no idea how they hit.
Starting point is 00:35:06 It's, it's bad. It's wild to watch. And I, it's all just like goes wherever the hell it wants. It's pretty cool. But yeah, I thought that guy was fine.
Starting point is 00:35:14 And it was just, it was just funny here. See your team back. Try to be in. I know it's so good. This is the best price we've ever seen. Right? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:21 So I think, yeah, he's better than the MVP here right now. Yeah. I mean, he's up to he's damn close to 300 400 500 he's i think third in the national league home runs and him versus otani is going to be awesome and he's playing gold glove defense you know that's the differentiator there i mean both teams are the two best teams in the league otani let's be honest has better
Starting point is 00:35:43 offensive numbers not Not just that. I mean, whether or not, you know, we've had our issues with certain advanced stat things or what we need and what we don't need. But like looking at his stack cast data and there's a, I mean, he's hit like the 20 hardest balls hit in baseball this year. Like they're all him. It's, it's, he is, it is wild. The whole thing where it's like, oh, he's not going to pitch us here.
Starting point is 00:36:04 Let's see what he can do if he just works on hitting. The best hitter in this sport. That's what he does when he just works on hitting. But the Harper thing is real. And the first base thing, I think the narrative will help Harper. You know, the Phillies are kind of the team of the season. It's more expected what the Dodgers are doing. We still have a season left.
Starting point is 00:36:19 So see how it goes. But it is, it could be like a gargantuan badass between two of the five most famous players in the sport type of race. It could be really fun. Yeah. And Otani's winning right now because what he's doing is... It's insane.
Starting point is 00:36:33 It's insane. His numbers are insane. And he's just like... I don't think we're ever going to see this again. We never have. I've said it. I think he's the most talented baseball player I've ever seen by far.
Starting point is 00:36:43 He's the best baseball player. Ever. Ever. In the history of the world. Yes. He's the most talented baseball player I've ever seen. He's the best baseball player ever, ever in the history of the world. Yes, he's the best. It's crazy. It's hard to compute. He's the best hitter in the sport. And when he pitches, he's like a top 10 pitcher.
Starting point is 00:36:58 Yeah, that's crazy. It's no matter the best players. Barry Bonds, best hitter of all time, whatever, and was a gold glove outfielder. That's not even close to being a top 10 pitcher in the sport on top of it. It's so crazy to me. It's so impressive. And the interesting part about those two is that they're both going for their third MVP, which only 11 players in the history of baseball have ever done. Well, it's an elite, elite club.
Starting point is 00:37:20 And then there's Bonds Vista. Seven, yeah. And I think A-Rod got four, I want to say. Was there anyone else in that era and i think a rod got four i want to say was there anyone else in that era like i think those are the only two uh yeah those are the two pools got the three trout has three then your old school like bar as three campanella has three schmidt obvious has three but it's like a really exclusive exclusive list i know it doesn't equate a championship but i need bryce having three mbps i mean it's that's like historic greatness stuff you know yeah i'm with you i want that's you know we've talked about
Starting point is 00:37:52 i want to get a championship i want bryce's resume at the end of the day to just be you know i want to be an inner circle all-famer because he can be he's he's trending towards yeah is is nick cassianos the number one dad guy in Philadelphia? That's a great question. I mean, the second Liam gets back, Liam's out of school. It's like, oh, there he is. I mean, think about it this way. We're dad guys, right?
Starting point is 00:38:17 Big time dad guys. Cassianos might be the number one dad guy. So think about it this way. Whose kid is more famous than his? Like of all the athletes in the city all this stuff like no one else has raised their child up and then look liam does it himself he's likable and stuff but like no one else has like put his kid on display like i'm agreeing with you i like what other kid is like a part of a of a team's narrative and a part of a bit right exactly so like yeah i think he has to be number one dad guy in the city.
Starting point is 00:38:45 Yeah, it's just, you know, he shows up, Cassie's like, oh, hold on. Hey,
Starting point is 00:38:49 here's my guy. I'm right back. And it's his bat. It does look quicker. Yeah, it does. It looks quicker. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:55 Look, Cassie, I'm strong. You know what? He's a human. Again, again, again,
Starting point is 00:39:00 just be serviceable. Yeah, just be serviceable. Just be fine. And then, and then get hot for a couple times in the postseason,
Starting point is 00:39:05 but find a bat that can just help the middle of that lineup in case everything goes bad. Or even not in case. Just get another bat. Why not? Because the bottom of the lineup, while they do seemingly step up every night. Yeah, I don't know that Mundo Sosa is going to come through in October.
Starting point is 00:39:31 It'd be nice you know yeah yeah exactly like the season comes down to david doll like you and i were like all right we got it you know i don't know if every philly's fan is psyched if david doll's up to play with the season one dude tucker barnhart saved david doll oh so great because he's trending towards you know cody clemens, David Dahl decision. I know. Yeah, Clemens had a nice night in the Myers last night. I know. And Clemens has the positional value. He sure does. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:39:56 But I do think the thing that I think Dahl is going for him. Is that he was an all-star in 2019? I was going to say he slugged him 513 or whatever. Like, you know, to the point you're making like ideally you want a bat you any you want any bat you can get coming out but you want a bat who can hit some home runs you know like the ability to put the ball out of the ballpark is something that you know obviously there are some guys on the team who have it but you when you get to the bottom of the lineup it really does run out like a doll you know somebody could pop one in the 7-8 hole
Starting point is 00:40:26 is valuable. Well, speaking of that, again, to go back to Friday night, that David Dahl ball is a home run. I couldn't believe it. I thought it was just like London. I was like, when he came in at the pit. I was shocked that didn't get out. The Diamondbacks had some nice
Starting point is 00:40:41 outfield catches this weekend of balls where it was like, oh, that's gone. And then they're running and he's jumping. He's got it. I do like Jake McCarthy. The Phillies have been linked to him. I moved. He can move. He can hit. I like that he's a Phillies fan. There's a lot of Phillies fans. Is he a Phillies fan in real estate?
Starting point is 00:40:58 Do they have Walker and McCarthy there? Yeah. And Gallon's a Cardinals fan. He's a Cardinals fan. His family is Phillies fans. Yes. Even though they're excommunicated. Yes. Even though. Yeah. He's a Cardinals family. Yes. Even though they're excommunicated. Yes. Even though they're not allowed to be mentioned in this spot. Yes.
Starting point is 00:41:11 By the way, I wrote down twice on the take back. Best price has been. So you're really feeling it. I was. I think it is though. Like, look,
Starting point is 00:41:18 especially because the MVP season was kind of weird in that he was only okay for the first third or so of the season. Exactly. And then he, and then he had that amazing second half and went nuts. He's been... I know he's had spurts since Javier had the three-homer game after the slow start. But he's been pretty consistent.
Starting point is 00:41:36 It hasn't been an unbelievable, crazy stretch. Right. But he's just been consistent. But when we look at the end of the year, he's going to have a 930 OPS with close to 40 home runs. Yeah, it's working. Yeah, it's the year, he's going to have like a nine 30 OPS with, with close to 40 home runs, you know? So, I mean, you know,
Starting point is 00:41:46 yeah, it's, it's working. Yeah, it's working. It's working. And it's good to see it's because, uh,
Starting point is 00:41:50 but that speaking of 2021, it would have been crazy if Wheeler and Harper won the Cy Young and an MVP. It was so close to, it was close. And looking back, like Wheeler probably should have won. He deserved to have a Burns. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:42:01 I think he did. So, you know, that's interesting. And, um, oh, Schwarber's also been really good. Schwarber's been really good. Yeah think he did. So, you know, that's interesting. And Schwarber's also been really good. Schwarber's been really good. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:07 And, you know, he continues to get on base, you know, and the homers are there all of a sudden. It's like, oh, look at that. Everything's off the middle. Yeah. Staying on balance. Well, look, and let's give a little credit. You know, now we're well into June and all that. He had his best start as a Philly easily and really one of the best starts of his career for the first two months
Starting point is 00:42:26 of the season. I wonder if he's done. Which is hilarious because it was like 2.30 where we're like, look at him. Let him figure it out. I wonder if he could, they probably don't want to do it, but he's looking spry. He is. If they want to go get a third, he's like, if they want to go get a
Starting point is 00:42:42 DH and he can play left field. Like I'm just saying, if you're looking for a bopper... I mean, your lineup gets immeasurably better, obviously, especially with the issues you've been having, kind of just filling that right field or left field spot, you know? I'm just saying. Open up the options.
Starting point is 00:42:59 I mean, I don't know if you can do it every day. No. I don't think you'd want him doing it every day. I don't think you'd want him out there. But they did, again, they did win a pennant with him in left field. By the way, shout out to them. And he's in better shape now than he was that year. Yeah, better. Shout out to them. Let him do the run out by himself thing.
Starting point is 00:43:13 That was hilarious. I just thought it was just a sick joke that made him play on the hottest day of the year. Oh, I know that, too. But I love that. I mean, again, we know the group likes that there's a good clubhouse. But, you know, they constantly show us. That's a fun thing to do, to have him run out there and left him by himself. It's very fun.
Starting point is 00:43:29 Yeah. I'm just saying, there could be something there. There could be. Hey, hey, hey. Come on. Come on. Impossible. Come on.
Starting point is 00:43:36 Schwarbs? I mean, look, they got further with him in left field than with him as a DH. That's just the fact. I'm going to be real about it. I loathe Tori Lovello and like like put a freaking jersey
Starting point is 00:43:49 on by the way. Weird man. Dude, he is and he complains about everything. How about his bench coach getting taught?
Starting point is 00:43:56 Like when was last time you saw a bench coach? Yeah, I never saw that was so weird. Tori Lovello just so take a chill pill. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:44:04 every every little thing he's out there grilling the umpire. He's got a real Luka Doncic vibes from him. I can't believe he was a Philly. You texted me. I was like, what? 19 games. I do not remember that at all. I have zero memory of it. 19 games. None.
Starting point is 00:44:19 19 games to the Phillies. And then we're three weeks away from the draft. Yeah, it's time. Go ahead. We made it to the end of the pod. Do your thing. The floor is yours, Francie. affiliate um all right and then we're three three weeks away from the yeah it's time go ahead yeah we made it to the end of the pod do your thing yeah so the floor is yours francy so the the prep pass i'm interested in is real quick before you do that just i would assume with what we talked about before with the pitching and the you know the contracts and you know the rotation i know we're a long way from some of these guys potentially if the guys could get a while for the majors but do you think they're going to prioritize hitting
Starting point is 00:44:48 more see i actually i actually kind of feel like it's a it's a year they take a picture in the first round again because like abel's falling off a little bit clausen's here does he get traded the deadline painters coming and then after that it's like mercato but they traded for mercato so you know they have guys like they have the, I keep on calling the baby aces just to throw back to the Trevor May, Jared Coe start era of Phillies baseball. But they have some arms down in Lakewood that are looking pretty good. But they're more like they've developed them along the way
Starting point is 00:45:21 and they might be more trade pieces. And like Mavis graves was a fifth round pick i believe um you know so i wonder if they go back because they have like they developed justin crawford he's looking like a pretty good prospect obviously aiden starling caba we'll see what happens there if they if they do put him in a trade at the deadline um but like i do think that it feels like especially given the options at 27, you know, like I like a lot of these guys, but the public is not super high on them at 27. Like, like Tyson Lewis, I think is my favorite shortstop prospect.
Starting point is 00:45:52 And I would take a shortstop cause I don't think he, like Aiden could do it, but he feels more like third base shortstop. Um, and then like, there's, there's not really that outfielder guy that like, there's not like a pure center fielder at,ielder at 27 that I think jumps out. PJ Morlando is a guy I've loved forever, but he's more of a corner guy, and I don't think he has really a position, so that's why he's dropped. Theoretically, obviously
Starting point is 00:46:13 another person could get traded, but Justin Crawford profiles as a centerfielder. He makes it right. You have that potential. I don't know whether they're looking to keep him or not, but if they are, that could be a future centerfielder So I got three, the three righty options. Cause I'm only really looking at prep guys because I feel like we're not
Starting point is 00:46:30 going to drive the college. They've made it clear what they do. Yes. So, so there's three that jump out. Joey Oki is an Iowa kid who, Joey Oki. Joey Oki.
Starting point is 00:46:39 Oh man. I don't know if I like the name or hate it. I can go either way. It flows though. Yeah, it does, but I want to be like Okie Dokie or something like that. No, it can get hokey.
Starting point is 00:46:47 Yeah, a little hokey, but it does flow, like Joey Okie. Yeah, but then again, Joey Okie can become hokey. Yeah, good. You're right. I don't want that. But either way, he's got like 97 with heavy sinks. So he's from Iowa. He kind of didn't pitch much this year because it's Iowa and it's cold.
Starting point is 00:47:04 Good. That seems like a good way to get his career. But to get the iowa pitching they have a lab dude like brody bracht is a kid that's either way iowa pitching you were about to nerd out there i saw it there he's he i saw the the little realization jack's eye where he's like okay i'm about to go too far i gotta rein this back in i Iowa pitching is actually so legit. Iowa pitching, you know, the fertile grounds of Iowa pitching. Well, there's a reason why he committed there. He's committed to be a Hawkeye.
Starting point is 00:47:32 So I love him. Looks like, just in watching him, it's like you just put him in the Phillies kind of development thing and let them figure out the off-speed. Sometimes he throws his slider and it's like the best pitch he has, and then sometimes he just loses it. Ryan Sloan, I think, is eventually my
Starting point is 00:47:49 number one, just from the standpoint of it's easy 96, it's heavy, and he can already command three pitches, which I like. And then Braylon Doty is a guy who I think is just the next Joe Musgrove. Super easy mechanics.
Starting point is 00:48:05 Super easy mechanics. Repeatable. You don't see dynamic stuff out of him, but I think Braylon Dodie is dope. There's only one college guy I like a lot, and it's only because of JT, but Malcolm Moore is the catcher from Stanford, who
Starting point is 00:48:21 is good. If they go catcher because they might actually have to start thinking about i mean jt yeah especially if you're talking about you know at this age and i'm getting drafted that that does make sense especially getting rid of a hobby you know well now that now now marjana no now i always say tate but i'm wrong but there's a eduardo tate is a catcher down in the minor league system who went 5-5 the other night down the Florida Gulf Coast League. And he is the future, but he's only 17.
Starting point is 00:48:54 Well, that's young. Yeah, we can't be banking on him right now. So he's that. And then, yeah, Tyson Lewis is a guy, a shortstop prospect, that for some reason is in the 40s in public boards, who I think should be going higher because he's super athletic, the ball really hard, and can do a lot of things. Look, you were saying take Aiden Miller last year,
Starting point is 00:49:14 and you were like, I don't know why he's going to be there. It's a weird draft up. That's the problem with this year. Yeah, I mean, you were right. That's pretty good. But Aiden was like a pedigree guy that fell for no reason. Well, it was the handmade bone, right? It was part of it or whatever.
Starting point is 00:49:25 Yeah. So I keep trying to see who could be that guy. Like who's the guy that got hurt or who's the guy that got hurt or whatever. I don't think that guy's there. I don't think that guy's there. I mean, Billy, Connor Griffin really fell. I would give up the pod for it. No, you wouldn't.
Starting point is 00:49:41 Don't say things that you don't mean. He's probably not going to. You just had to do Eagles chants at a Phillies game. That was excruciating. Reign it in a little bit with these bold declarative statements. Yeah. but he's probably not. Don't say things that you don't mean. He's probably not going to. You just had to do Eagles chance at a Phillies game. All right? That was excruciating. Ring it in a little bit with these bold declarative statements. Yeah. But either way, I can't wait for the draft.
Starting point is 00:49:52 I know, buddy. Three weeks away. So what's the actual date? It's whatever the Sunday is. They moved it back because it used to be June, right? Yeah, they moved it back. They included it in all-star weekend. Oh, all-star.
Starting point is 00:50:02 I remember. That was like last year, year before or something. They did that. So I think it's the 14th. All right., All-Star. I remember. That was like last year, the year before or something, they did that. So I think it's the 14th. All right. Cool. I know. Get excited. Let's go! I don't think I'm in Canada yet, but who knows?
Starting point is 00:50:14 We'll figure it out. I really should figure out when the trip is. You probably should know when you're going. So how long are you in Canada for? I think like five days. Wow. Look at you. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:50:24 Up there in Banff. Banff. Yeah. Hiking and all that stuff. What a Fritz trip right there. Oh, man. You're going to see the lakes. It is funny.
Starting point is 00:50:32 All you guys do, whenever you and Jill end up going somewhere, it's always like, yeah, we're going somewhere to hike, like the Appalachian Trail. You are really committed to the hiking thing. I like the woods. I like it. Good for you. Proud of you, buddy. All right.
Starting point is 00:50:46 Tigers, sweep or two or three? Two or three, always.. Good for you. Proud of you, buddy. All right. Tigers, sweep or two or three? Two or three, always. It's going to be good to see Peerling. Very excited. They should lit up Casey Mize tonight. It's not great getting Scooble and Flaherty, though. I mean, I guess they're all pretty good. I mean, Reese is pretty good, too, but
Starting point is 00:51:01 I guess getting Casey Mize is a good thing, but I mean, Scooble tomorrow.'s scooble ranger which that's actually a you want to talk about a lefty battle that's awesome you know it could be a two-sided i mean scoobles in the running for cy young in the ale oh yeah he just got lit up by the braves last time yeah did he i didn't know because he was like he was running away with it yeah exactly so and again part of the last thing on the curse of being so good pitching-wise is he can't push for trays or pitchers. I would be all over a Flaherty trade.
Starting point is 00:51:32 Me too, dude. Oh, he's been awesome. I know. Yeah. Kind of surprising. Me too. I thought he was cooked, but it turns out not cooked. Not cooked.
Starting point is 00:51:40 Pretty damn good. Yeah. All right. Tigers, we'll be back after that. Anything else? No. Wilmington. Wilmington. Come to Wilmington. pretty damn good yeah all right uh tigers we'll be back after that anything else no wilmington wilmington come to wilmington it's gonna be awesome and uh i can't wait i'm actually really excited july 3rd come with us uh get tickets now and we'll talk more about it next until then peace for themselves Peace for now.
