All-star closer, Kenley Jansen, we have a question.
What's the best podcast of all time?
Baseball Isn't Boring, baby.
I'm Rob Bradford, and every single day I'm sitting down with the biggest names
to show you this great game is the greatest game.
It's my podcast. It's my passion.
It's a cause I started more than two years ago
and is now the most prolific national daily baseball pod there is.
Another fact, so jump aboard the BIB Express.
Follow and listen to Baseball Isn't Boring,
presented by Wasabi Hot Cloud Storage on the free Odyssey app
or wherever you get your podcasts.
I want to congratulate all of you.
What an unbelievable team you have.
And this is just the start.
This team is built for where we're going.
To get there is the tough part.
Now we've got to finish this thing off.
I'm so proud of you guys.
You guys have overcome a lot of things.
This is the most resilient team I've ever been around.
And that plays big in the playoff.
Get your rest.
Come in late tomorrow.
Party hard tonight.
The last thing, JT, how many more playoffs?
We've got 13 wins.
Rob Thompson after the
Phillies won and clinched last night.
We are back. It is Marks and
Reese and joining us right now has been
a big part of the Phillies' success
this year. Trey Turner joins
us. Trey, how are you?
How we doing, guys?
Hey, Trey. How you doing?
What's up, Trey? By the way, congratulations.
You know, it's been 162 games, and you're almost there is a lot.
It's been a lot of twists and turns this season, but you got it done.
You got into the playoffs.
How do you feel?
I feel good, man.
I think we feel good as a team.
I don't think, you know, it's hard to get there,
and everyone thinks at the beginning of the year, you know,
it's going to go smooth, but it's a hard game, it's a hard sport.
And we kept our head up.
It hasn't been pretty all the time, but we did our job.
And now it's time to, like JT said, time to get those last 13 wins.
So just to get the ovation stuff out of the way, Trey,
we're taking credit on the Marks and Reese show here
with our producer and influencer Jack Fritz.
We came up with the idea.
We believe we came up with the idea that we say, hey, you know what?
Let's give Trey his innovation.
We put it out there on the air.
A lot of people got behind it, and the rest is history.
I'm just curious.
How did you hear about it?
When you came into the ballpark that day, did they tell you about it then?
Or how did you hear that this was a possibility happening that night?
Yeah, well, first off, I owe you guys a thank you.
I've heard that you guys are responsible, so I want to say thank you to you guys.
But yeah, I think my wife saw a video on social media about it,
and she showed me before I went to the stadium that day.
So she was kind of where I heard it first and then obviously the whole thing happened and you know the rest kind of
history started playing a lot better and and it was thanks to you know you guys in the crowd
well I'll tell you man you listen you know baseball players you guys have a saying of
just read the back of the card and it'll tell you who the player is.
So I don't think there's any surprise that you turned this thing around
and started resembling who you've been throughout your career.
And we're certainly excited about that.
We tongue-in-cheek take a little bit of credit for doing that.
But we know you put the work in and you carried it after that.
That month and a half, so after that, man,
you went on a run that we haven't seen around here since,
I don't even know, you have to go back to the Ryan Howard,
Chase Sutley, those type of days.
What was that like for you sort of getting your confidence back
and being your old self in the box
and being able to contribute and produce like you expect yourself to do?
Yeah, it was fun.
And like you said, it's just my expectations of myself,
how I've played for a number of years now, and I just want to do my job.
So I obviously knew those first 100 games or so,
I wasn't kind of living up to the standard that I've played at for a while
and just wanted to get back to that.
And then the next 35, 40 games have been pretty special.
I think it's probably the best I've hit in my life,
just from a power standpoint, really.
You know, obviously the streaks and the homers came
and probably hit for a higher average at times,
or the numbers were probably just as good.
But as far as, you know, power and consistency,
I think it's probably the best I've hit.
So it was a lot of fun.
Felt like I made up for some of the mishaps in the beginning of the season
and just kind of got in a role and winning some games.
And now we're in the postseason where we wanted to be.
So it just, you know, felt good from an individual standpoint,
but also just contributing to the team.
Okay.
Now moving on from the ovation stuff, right,
because you've done so many good things since that happened,
and this team has really been one of the hotter teams in the National League
coming down the stretch.
As a team, how do you guys feel?
I know you still got some games left to go here to finish up the season,
so I don't want to overlook that.
But postseason play, Red October, we're all excited about it.
How are you and your teammates feeling about your chance of going back
to the postseason and potentially finishing what you guys started last year
or what those guys started last year?
Yeah, we're pumped, man.
I think we think we can beat anybody.
We can play with anybody.
We know from day one we were kind of built from top down down and just with our lineup and our pitching staff our bullpen um just all the ways we
can we can kind of beat you know an opponent i think we feel really good about it um we're excited
to see you know who we play finish up strong these last few games and just keep the ball rolling and
i think that uh the energy that you know we get from our fans and the energy we have in the clubhouse
I think is just going to carry over,
and I think we're looking forward to the challenge.
You talked about the clubhouse,
and I remember when we knew there was a possibility
of the Phillies signing you,
and we knew the close relationship you had with Bryce Harper,
and I was like, can they really sign Trey Turner?
Is the clubhouse, is the teammates,
or your teammates, or the fans of the city,
has it met
your expectations i mean now that we've almost been through a full season what do you think
of your first full season in philly it's been great man i think uh you know obviously i think
i wish i played a little bit better just from a consistency standpoint but as far as
you know living here and being in the organization and just lifestyle. It's been awesome.
It's been more than I could have thought, and I've really enjoyed it.
I think I told somebody the other day the hardest part this year was the baseball part,
and usually the baseball side is easy.
It's the lifestyle and family and just moving around and traveling and all that.
It's usually the harder part.
So from a city standpoint, teammates and fans and organizations,
it's been great.
And now we have the opportunity to kind of accomplish what we set out to do.
So I'm very thankful for the entire season,
just looking forward to trying to finish this one off
and just another 10 years here and just having fun
and winning some baseball games.
We have that term around here, Trey, that we call Red October, right,
for the Phillies, and obviously that's postseason baseball.
You're already a World Series champion yourself,
so you certainly know what it's like to take it all the way to the end
and finish the deal.
I guess that would be the perfect way to end this season, right,
if we can get back to that point and finish the deal. Yeah sure i mean that's that's why we play the game right is to
win win championships and uh like i said a little bit a while ago it's hard to get here you know
you think it's going to be smooth sailing but it's hard to get here and uh it's even harder to finish
it off but um we got the we got the right group um just came up just short last year you know with
these guys and hopefully, this year is different
and we can get the job done and share that championship with the city and the fans. I
think it's something that they deserve and we want to provide.
I got to ask you this about Bryce. We got Bryce Harper here a couple years ago. You
played with Bryce down there in Washington. You guys are very close friends. Watching
him from afar and then getting to experience him here as a Philly,
it's almost like it's a completely different player.
He obviously was a villain to us when you guys were down there with the Nationals.
But how has he changed or has he changed as a player or what have you
from you guys' early days down in Washington
to what you're seeing him here in Philadelphia?
Yeah, I think, I mean, I don't know if it's changed, but, you know, everyone just evolves.
You get older in your career and you learn things and your routine changes
or your viewpoints change or whatever it may be.
But, you know, I think one thing that's always stuck out, for me at least,
and it was back then and probably has been his whole at least and it was back then and probably been his whole life
but it's back then in Washington is now is just he was made for you know the big moment it seems
like every time we need a hit or a homer or whatever it may be he's right there to to provide
that and that's what you want out of you know your superstar player and your franchise player so
um he's he's special player I think he's you know he's the same guy he was then and
and I think that's a good thing and At the same time, he's kind of
evolved, and his
game's evolved, and he's
a special player, man. He's been good for a long
time, and he'll continue to be.
Like I said, he's just made for that big moment in
October, and we're lucky to have him.
Bryce Harper, also a listener to
the Marks and Reese show, and is driving to
the ballpark, Trey.
When you're deciding, you know you're
a free agent and you're thinking like,
alright, where do I want to go? Are you watching
the postseason last year and are you thinking
because Red October is going to start next week
and the atmosphere at the ballpark
is amazing. Were you watching that on TV
thinking, I could see myself there?
I think
going into it, no. Not necessarily.
I didn't really watch a ton of postseason.
And, you know, I'm just kind of relaxing.
You know, we came up short last year, and so you never want your season to end like that.
So I didn't really watch a lot of baseball.
But at the same time, it felt like when I turned on the TV, all I could hear was, you know, the atmosphere in Citizens Bank.
So it's funny looking back at it. I didn't realize it then, but now looking back at it, I was like you know, the atmosphere in Citizens Bank. So it's, it's, it's funny looking back at
it. I didn't realize it then, but now looking back at it, I was like, man, that's the one thing that
stuck out to me more than anything in the post-season last year was, was just the atmosphere
like through the TV. And, and that's, that says a lot, you know, it's hard, hard to see everything
on TV sometimes, but, um, you know, you could tell that from my seat and on my living room couch.
And I think looking back, that's definitely a big reason I wanted to come here
and looking forward to, you know, like I said, my first time playing in the atmosphere.
I only have one final question.
Is there any champagne left over from last night?
Hell no.
We had a good time.
It was a lot of fun. I think, like I said, everyone in this clubhouse knows good time it was a lot of fun i think um like i said everyone in this clubhouse knows
how hard it was and and uh when you get a chance to celebrate with your teammates and coaches and
staff and everybody that put the uh blood sweat and tears into it i think uh you celebrate as
hard as you can and enjoy it and uh we went through a couple bottles. Bet you did.
Satona Trey Turner, who is not in the lineup tonight for the Phillies,
any idea how you're going to be managed here over the next?
Because you did clinch.
I'm sure you're going to be playing in some of the games.
You're off tonight.
Any idea how you're going to be managed here over the rest of the regular season?
No, I'm not sure.
I think today was kind of assumed off day for a lot of guys, but I would imagine just play the last three games in some capacity and keep those reps up and timing. I feel good, body feels good, so no reason to kind of shut it down, but just get right for the postseason and that's kind of the focus now and I think that's what we're all doing. When your name's called, just get ready to play and keep it rolling.
Man, we can't wait for next week.
Trey, congratulations on the season
and congratulations on the baby.
Tatum Trey Turner.
I've got to ask you,
how's the baby sleeping? That's what you asked
the parents when they had the new baby. How's the baby
sleeping? It's hit or miss.
It's definitely harder on my wife.
She's been wearing a little bit, but
yeah, some nights are good, some nights are bad, but
that's part of being a parent, and
we're excited to have him. He's been awesome, and
just seeing him and my other son
together is a blessing, so
we're lucky. Awesome. Congratulations.
Thank you so much for joining us.
Good luck next week. Appreciate you.
Alright, there he is. Trey Turner.

I was watching a video before we went to the ballpark that day.
I'm assuming the video was Jack Fritz's face pleading with people.
Was it really?
Yes.
Well, yeah, because I got done running.
I was huffing and puffing.
My face was flush red.
There's no way that wasn't the video that he watched.
And yes, and I remember the same thing.
Being like, why?
Oh, my God.
That's awesome.
It is awesome.
Well, we went full circle on it.
Yeah.
Awesome.
I didn't know he'd seen the video.
Me neither.
Yeah, that's, wow. Yeah, so before I didn't know he's seen the video. Me neither. Yeah, that's... Wow.
Yeah, so before you went to the ballpark...
You're walks in the morning with
Walker Lee, you know.
By the way, I haven't seen many of those
lately. Well, because now he's
like, I walk him and he's starting to go to sleep.
So I don't want to do a video and wake him
up and be a bad guy. Oh, you don't want to
talk while he's sleeping. Yeah, exactly.
Wow. Yeah. Okay. Yeah, so... Oh, you don't want to talk while he's sleeping. Yeah, exactly. Wow. Yeah.
But you also don't want to ruin the nap by having him fall asleep for 10
minutes and then he won't take the nap.
And that used to happen with me.
Whenever I would take my first
born Gianna, whenever I would take her for a walk in the stroller,
she'd fall asleep within 10 minutes. And then I'd be like,
no, it's nap time. And she wouldn't go down and nap.
You ruined nap time.
Yeah, so all good.
But, yeah, it was good.
I liked Herb's cameo, too.
Yeah, I mean, there's coaches and staff and everybody that put the blood.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's not on purpose.
Yeah, that was not on purpose. No, there's a glitch in the system that for whatever reason,
whenever it decides to play, and it's always Herb, too.
It's only the one drop, yeah, yeah.
It's always Herb.
It's usually at horrible times.
It's never a normal time.
And coaches and staff and everybody that put the blood.
He was so confused, man.
Well, Jack, listen.
Hey, it's live radio.
Yes, it's live radio. Well, there you go. Trey Turner, Phil, listen. Hey, it's live radio. Yes, it's live radio.
Well, there you go.
Trey Turner, Phil's tonight.
We'll give you the starting lineup.
We have leading off coming up here.
Trey not in the lineup.
Bryce Harper is in the lineup tonight.
So there you go.
All right.
Text line or phone calls, Jack?
What do you think here?
I'll let you.
Let's do some phone calls.
All right.
Let's do some phone calls here.
We have Pete.
Let's go to Albert in Narber. He's got something on the Phillies. Albert, what do you got? How are you? Hey, gentlemen. What's up? Good you. Let's do some phone calls. All right, let's do some phone calls here. We have Pete in. Well, let's go to Albert in Narber.
He's got something on the Phillies.
Albert, what do you got?
How are you?
Hey, gentlemen.
What's up?
Good afternoon.
What's up?
What's up?
Going back to Harper Lent, man.
Congratulations, dude.
Doing the Lord's work.
How much more?
Putting the team and the city on your back.
My God, man.
It has been a pleasure to listen and watch you do this stuff, so thank you.
We're going to start saluting Jack.
Doing the Lord's work and putting the city on his bag that's a lot right there
really is man um yeah i was down there last night and i just want to like dude like don't forget
what it was like in like 13 and 14 and 15 and 16 and 17 and it was dead and there were so many blue
seats and i go to game in september for my birthday every year man and it was so many blue seats. And I go to a game in September for my birthday every year, man, and it was so dead.
And just, like, see them clinch consecutive years.
Man, that's just a beautiful thing.
So don't take it for granted.
My last point.
There's a video right now of Spencer Strider getting interviewed
by some, like, TikTok kid.
And he asks Spencer Strider, what's your hot take?
What's your sports hot take?
And Spencer Strider says, let's get rid of the fans.
He's like, let's go. No lower
bowl. We don't need you. You're too loud.
And that is absolutely, because he's
terrified of Citizens Bank Park,
and I want to amplify that video for everyone
to see. So, Spencer, we're coming for you, bud.
We're coming.
Wow. Yeah, just what I
appreciate it, Albert.
Just what you want is no fans,
less fans at a game, no lower bowl.
Listen, he's a pitcher.
He's strange like that, I guess.
Yeah.
You don't have to worry about it.
It's not happening.
But, yeah, those are his thoughts.
That's what happens when you ask athletes their thoughts.
You get them.
Like Scooby-Doo being a superhero.
Yep.
Yeah.
That's a good take.
And I agree with him.
Also, ask cassianos
what'd you learn this year nothing no right which i love he's very real yes i'm going to keep that
to myself yes cassianos is in in real time is very real uh the marks and reese text line sponsored

Tell Larry my check's in the mail.
Scott on his way to the ballpark.
Yes, Larry. He laid on thick at the beginning of the mail. Scott on his way to the ballpark. Yes, Larry.
They laid on thick at the beginning of the interview.
Anderson very impressed by the final call of Scott Franski last night.
Larry wasn't working.
It was Kevin Stocker.
Yeah.
So Larry, we're assuming, returning for playoff baseball
starting next week at Citizens Bank Park.
Why wasn't L.A. working last night?
Just the schedule.
No.
I thought he did all home games.
According to a source close to Larry, he thought that they were going to clinch before.
So then he thought over the weekend.
He thought this whole thing was going to be wrapped up.
Ah, gotcha.
Because we remember last year, Michael Bourne was on the call for the Phillies clincher.
Oh, that's right.
He stepped all over Scott.
We can't even use it. Nope. No, we can't.
We can't use it. Poor Michael.
That's right. I totally
forgot about that. Alright, what's next?
Wait. What happened?
James in Houston.
Oh, the Dame Lillard thing?
Yeah.
He just woke up.
Saw a couple text messages like, ah, same gut training.
Maybe Daryl will deal me next.
All right, what's next?
Oh, s***.
Stubb seeing himself in the lineup today.
Well, the one thing I'm sure of is that he knew he was playing today.
Yeah, I'm sure he did.
Yeah, he knew he was playing today. Yeah. He didn sure he did. Yeah, he knew he was playing today.
He didn't care. And he didn't care.
He didn't care. Party time.
We taking a anytime homer?
Not from Stubby.
But you know there's some player, like David Wells
was hung over and threw a perfect game
or whatever. Stubbs is the type that can come out
and go three for four after a long
night like that. I wouldn't bet on it.
Me neither.
Marshy's batting cleanup.
We saw him riding that bull last night on Xfinity Live.
Yeah, I would stay away from this game tonight.
Unless you're going to bet the other team.
Besides Pirate's Moneyline.
Exactly, unless you're just taking Pirate's Moneyline.
So is this an over?
I think it's the Pirate's Moneyline.
Okay.
Yeah.
That's the easier bet, yeah.
All right, what's next?
Joe G would look like a toothpick in a trash bag in overalls.
Tim in Newark.
Come on.
By the way, official comment from Kyle Quinn, producer of the Midday Show.
He says he feels like they're obligated to wear the Phillies overalls next week.
And official comment from Joe to camera, he will be wearing the full uniform as expected.
Tuesday, yes uniform as expected.
As expected.
Okay, there we go then.
So Ike's going to have his Red October shirt and a World Series.
Take October.
Take October, sorry.
So what are we going to do, Jack?
I wear my Steve Jelts jersey.
We could go shirtless.
No, we can't.
No, that's not a good look. We'll figure out a bit. Yeah, we can't. No, that's not a good look.
We'll figure out a bit.
Yeah, we need a bit. I would have loved to wear the overalls, but Hugh beat us to it.
Well, you can.
You can.
I don't really think Jack
wants to wear overalls. I just know.
I'm not setting myself up for success.
No? No, no.
It'd be funny. It would be funny.
Alright, what's next? Through two shows,
is BG pro
or anti-text line?
Jack in the producer's booth.
Text line!
I think he gets a kick out
of it. I'm not sure.
I've thought about it
He may not
really understand what's going on
He didn't understand it as much
Agreed
He hears these quotes coming in
like okay
What am I supposed to do with that?
It's a radio bit that he has no idea what it is
He got a chuckle or two last night
out of some of the stuff right?
He enjoys when we attack Howard.
That's something he always likes to get.
Yeah, he liked the Howard drops.
Right.
He does like the Howard drops.
Howard, not happy the Philly celebrated last night, by the way.
Not happy.
Was he there?
I don't believe.
Normally, he was over there before.
So he goes early.
He asks the hard-hitting questions early, yeah.
Yes, and then he goes.
I remember Doc Rivers made fun of him and said,
you're always here early, but then you leave.
So that's what he does.
He comes early.
He's got to go home and go to sleep.
All right, let's get to Angry Al before we get to leading off.
Angry Al, go ahead.
How are you?
How are you, Johnny Marks.
What's up, Al?
What's up, John? What's up, Ike?
What's up, Al?
What's up, Cowboy fan?
You know what? Can I send a little
message to... What's his name?
Cowboy Jim.
He was not okay.
On the fourth and four
where he threw the ball and it got knocked away,
a real quarterback would have run for the first down.
Right.
Okay?
He's not okay.
He's an idiot.
Dak Prescott, you're speaking of.
Yes.
And because of that, come on, man.
And then after watching the Eagles defense the other night.
You're impressed with the Eagles.
When are you coming over to join us, man?
See, I get so right.
You did this the year they won the Super Bowl.
You've done this since.
Let's just be an Eagle fan now.
We want you on board.
We want you on our team.
Not really, but.
Well, you know. Well, you're a Cincinnati fan anyway, for real, for real.
That's where he grew up.
I forgot you grew up in Dallas.
I didn't grow up in Dallas.
I didn't grow up in Philly either.
In Bryn Mawr.
The only reason I say this is because you're so complimentary about the Eagles
and you ripped the Cowboys.
The fact of the fact.
It's like Charlie Daniels said, what it is, what it is, right?
Like you put out the Twitter question the other day,
are the Eagles' defense better this year?
If nothing else, they're faster.
And in the NFL, that generally means you're better.
Right?
Well, I disagree with everybody who believes this year's defense
is better than last year's defense.
Well, I believe they're faster.
Okay.
And I believe because of that, they're going to do much more disrupting.
And people like Dak, who can't handle the rush, are going to have trouble with him.
All right.
Yeah, Sam Howell, by the way, this Sunday, is on a historic pace for sacks in a year.
So that might play into the Eagles' hands.
Yeah, I think so.
And they're bums anyway.
They won the first two games by accident.
All right.
All right, Al.
All right, Al, quickly with the Phillies.
Phillies are going to the World Series.
I told you.
I said 90 wins, but I got that over 88 and a half.
Oh, they're going to clear 90.
Yeah, they're going to clear 90.
Yes.
So, they're gone.
This is it.
This year.
And I don't care.
I'm not worried about the Braves.
The only team I worry about is Arizona.
The Braves, I'm not worried about.
The Braves win the division all the time.
They don't win the division like a thousand times.
They've got one World Series out of it.
Well, they got the second one, but to your point, yes,
they've won a lot of divisions.
We'll see.
We'll see.
I know the Phillies aren't going to be going down there
feeling like they can't beat the Braves, that's for sure.
Oh, yeah.
It's going to be good.
All right, time for leading off.
