Our party of heroes have taken on a job for the Lamplighter's Guild of Ashen Rest,
protecting Illuminator Teresa Lavendale
as she attempts to repair several Everlights,
lampposts, lanterns that are scattered around parts of the city
in an area a rough part of the Riverside District.
Our party have met with the Illuminator,
made their way to the plaza,
and there they have encountered several shadowy figures
waiting for them.
I am going to...
I'm probably going to be doing a lot of standing up,
so I might even just stay standing up the whole time.
How many are we talking?

So I will highlight a couple of points here on the map.
So you guys are all coming in from this side.
These posts here and the one over there
are the three Everlights that you need to repair.
These are all buildings.
They all look like, you know, people's houses.
This is like a general store,
and these are all like individual people's houses.
There are obviously more of them, you know, away from the map.
These areas in between the houses are the alleyways that I mentioned.
As you can see, one side is kind of fenced off and is impassable.
There is the fountain in the middle,
and then all of these little barrels and pits and pieces
are scattered around as well.

The figures that you can see.
They all have carpenter weapons.
Yeah.
If only we didn't go against the cotton candy guild.
Oh, that would've been so good.

in the cotton candy machine.

you can see three figures in the dim gloom
of this flickering light on the other side of the plaza.
Like I said, armed with hatchets.
Two of them do seem to have larger, broader kind of axes,
but the one in the green on the miniature
seems to have hatchets and small hands.

Kind of getting that kind of vibe, right?
These guys are wearing like clothes
and like laborers outfits, like leather aprons,
but they've kind of got that rough kind of street gang
kind of like look to them.

And so the first thing I'm going to ask for,
because these guys have absolutely expected you,
they've seen you coming,
we are going to roll initiative.

And then the last guild enforcer, this is the lieutenant,
also unfortunately succeeds.
But that area is difficult terrain,
and they will have to move through it.
But you see that, yeah, from in between the flagstones and the cobblestones, all the weeds begin to grow,
and they turn into this swarming mass of plants
called forth by Gruffydd's powers.
But yes, unfortunately, a very lucky DM series of rolls.

You have to basically clear these guys out,
and then she can start working on it,
which is why she has some ability to attack and do other stuff.

Having seen, they've not done anything yet.
No, they are definitely gearing up ready to come and fight, though.
Because Daisy doesn't like to be the first one to do the violence.

something that you guys actually asked about in the last session.
You can choose if you hit them with a melee attack
or something like that to do non-lethal damage,
if you just want to knock them out.
There are types of damage which cannot be used
to do non-lethal damage.
So things like radiant or fire or lightning
can't make that non-lethal.
What about finger of death?
Yeah, also lethal.
Things like thunder damage and force damage
can be non-lethal, so you can kind of use
those concussive force and it goes out.
Same with, I'm gonna to say, piercing weapons.
Can't really knock somebody out with a piercing,
like a stab of a dagger.
Doesn't really knock
someone out.
Slashing weapon,
you can use the flat
of the blade.
What about psychic?
Psychic,
I would allow to be,
yeah,
I'd allow psychic damage
to be non-lethal as well.

And you see, appearing from the alleyway
just off where that other light is.
Okay, to the east.
Pile those in there, they're gonna be moving shortly, Tom, so you might wanna move those for me. other light is okay to the east okay move all those guys together five of them yep and seeing as gruff earth is the one constant spell how they move they are, 15, 20, 25, 30. No, they are basically going to rush and surround Xanthius.

So rushing from the side of an alleyway.
However, this ability from the lieutenant, get in here,
does cost me a fate point.
So I must spend a fate point and you guys gain one.
So they literally like...
So they rush
bring in the crew. Sorry, this ability

And you watch as these guys rush and they will
the next two will move to get as close
to you as possible. So those last two squares.
And then
they are going to perform a group attack.
Monsters!
As they basically try and overwhelm
and beat the ever-loving crap out of Xanthius.
Will I actually go off?
It will go off, yep.
So you get to make your attack first
as a response to them starting the attack.
Cool.
So it's three of them fighting me, not all five.
So that's not as bad as it could be, but...
Oh, that was close to it.
It's a 19 on the dice, so 24.
That is going to hit.
And I get a sneak attack because they're besides them.
I would say that, yeah, they're within five feet of an ally.

So you watch as this radiant blade,
and it's radiant energy, right,
the blade's made out of?
Yeah.
Oh, shit, no.
Losing the nose.
Flies across.
You just react without thinking, Daisy,
like that kind of natural instinct of you see your friend,
you see Xanthius about to be swarmed by these guys
with hatchets and clubs and, you know, beat sticks,
and just, woof, this blade of light flies out of your hand,
embeds into the back of one of these guys, kills them.
These are minions.
As you watch, the other one kind of of takes a bit of the damage as well
as the blade kind of cuts past his mate,
but doesn't quite finish him off.
As you turn around, and this gang are just like,
get him, and just the group attack
becomes more sort of impassioned.
We don't wanna kill any of you, but she does.
I don't have...
I didn't realize they were going to be...
I'm not going to fight them.
I'm just going to rogue.
So this is going to be a group attack with three of them able to join in.
They are all attacking you.

So the way they work is they basically attack as a group,
so they all make one attack, basically.

which they are going to make lethal.

because they've won a better number of games.

Ophelia's going to look at the group
of mercenaries that are beating Xanthius.
Just go, ah, a feast. a feast how kind she's gonna rage
there's no way that she wasn't gonna try it and i'd like to run up to the group attack xanthius
yeah maybe like spider climb over one of them and like do like a little flip over to get to
the back of them oh my god uh well so because there's no wall to run along here,
so you would move, say, to like here.

If you go another space, they will get an opportunity attack.

After Ophelia, we then go to,
in fact, I'm gonna do my little trick for tricking who's gone.
The next heist initiative is Xanthius.
Xanthius, at the start of your turn,
if you start your turn within five feet
of three or more of these guild lackeys,
your speed is reduced by five feet
for each lackey within 15 feet.
So currently it's reduced by 15 feet.
Is that?
Oh no, you've actually, yeah, one's been killed.
So you've got, yeah, but within five feet it has to be.
So yeah, so it's only two, so 10 feet current reduction.
I am still beneath a flurry of fists
and clubs and a machete.

You hear the other Carpenter Guild members just like,
they're taking us out, they've got magic.
Get in there, you fools.
It's barely been six seconds.
The others are on their way, as they call out.

And then they're gonna spend their action to dash,
basically, and they are going to,
going to, yeah, I think they're all gonna go this way.
They're not too worried about Daisy.

of this plant growth as well.
They have to dash and do the exact same thing.
