Pickaxe.
Welcome back to Ulthaya, the Dragon Empire. Strap yourself in, this is a long intro.
Our heroes had been enjoying a delightful break in the tourist town of Wavemeet,
a part of the Bronze Dragon's province of the Suncrest Isles.
Sunny beaches, new outfits, a gaming hall, and even a fancy hotel paid for them
by their delightful friend, Caliphras,
tiefling planar broker.
They met their new best friend, Matteo Dead Eye Nerodel,
a wandering bard who helped them face off
against an elemental warlock and dissuade some guards.
However, things took a dramatic turn
when the party retired to their rooms for the evening
and sister Ophelia de la Rosa of the House of Blood
decided to indulge in a little late night snack,
seeking out a drunken reveler
and offering a payment of 50 gold
in exchange for letting her drink their blood.
Sadly, Ophelia's hunger as a young dampier
saw her drink too much and too greedily,
nearly killing the young man
and causing a terrible mess
in the hotel room. What follows is a series of unfortunate events that lead to Ophelia,
Rowan and Xanthius being arrested by the local sea guard, the military of the Suncrest Isles.
During this arrest, one of the guards noticed Xanthius' crown-steel corrupted arm and
informed the local authoritar, a dwarf named
Cazoran Caz Cardwell, who sent for priests of the Church of Sions to help confirm the
guard's report. As Xanthius is being questioned and refusing
to cooperate for fear of his secret being discovered, Gruffoth of Tremorro sought out
his nightly mentor, Sir Joran Harper, and explained the situation. The two shared a
quiet moment and Sir Joran gave Gru and explained the situation. The two shared a quiet moment,
and Ser Joran gave Gruff his thoughts on the matter and offered a small boon,
a reminder to the Watch Commander of Wavemeat that she owed Ser Joran a favour. With this,
Gruff set out to see the Watch Commander, Mirana Taravos, and try to help his wayward kids once
more. Though sympathetic, Commander Taravos wanted to bring in her draconic
lady Duchess Glimaxa, but fearing the political elements, Gruff used the favour with Sir Joran
to encourage the Commander to let Xanthias and the others go, despite knowing it would
cost her dearly. Outraged, the Watch Commander agreed on the condition that Gruff, Joran
and the others left Wavemeat and never returned. Leaving authority, Cardwell outraged.
The commander escorted Xanthias to a secret exit out of the fort and released Rowan and
Ophelia, with the group reunited at the docks on Sir Joran's boat. They head out to sea,
leaving Wavemeat behind. The watch commander stood at the dockside as they go. As we come back in, the boat, the Sunquist,
is bobbing on the waves, slowly making its way across the coastal ocean. It has been
a few hours since your departure of Wavemeat. At the side of the boat,
you hear gentle strumming of an instrument
and a soft voice kind of working on a song.
Rock song.
Not you.
Not you.
You hear Matteo.
The lovely maid of Elven Green,
upon a beach she lay serene,
when from the waves a beast did rise
and sought to claim her lovely life.
But oh, came the heroes of Ashen's Rest,
oh, came the heroes of Ashen's Rest.
They need something.
He's sort of tinkering away with a little tune
that he's working on, his feet dangling off the side
of the boat as he is sort of sat there working
on this little song.
With his hair sort of being whipped by the sea,
the ocean breeze.
What are you all doing at this point?
It has been several hours, you are maybe about halfway.
I can imagine it's like several very awkward hours
where it's like.
I leave that to you to decide.
At least my understanding of the situation is
we kind of want to speak to Gruff,
however Gruff is very cold shoulder right now.
It's almost like the massive elephant in the room that none of us want to bring up.
So, at least if that's the situation,
it's all sort of very short sort of speeches to other people.
Yeah, just like, oh, can you just pass me the thank you?
And then just walking away.
I've never really had to do that.
It sounds like that's how Xanthias sees it all.
That's how Xanthias is seeing it.
I don't know if the past few hours has been like that,
but at least that's my perception of it.
Sure, okay.
Well that's Xanthias.
What is Xanthias doing on the ship, do you think?
I think if there's any sort of,
It's been a while.
Yeah, any sort of busy work to be doing,
I think I would be assisting as much as I can.
Yeah, so Joran, I'll put you to work.
Yeah, if there's like little things to do, I wouldn't necessarily be assisting as much as I can. Yeah, so Joran, I'll put you to work. Yeah, if there's little things to do,
I wouldn't necessarily be the best at it, but.
It's a lot of basically, this is like a little coastal sloop,
so it's a lot of Joran being like,
right, pull that sail over to starboard,
or right, left, he's kind of directing you
a little bit like that, as he's making adjustments
on the fly.
This is not a very big boat, it is just like a little small sloop.
You know that there's like a very small living quarters
underneath which is basically just room
for Sir Joran really.
This is not like a big luxurious ship,
so you are all quite tightly packed in on this main deck.
There's like little side sails and things like that
that you're going and like adjusting
as he's kind of calling out directions and stuff as well.
Yeah.
So Zemthias is just helping out with the busy body work.
It's very much just like not ashamed as such,
but like it's a very awkward, tense situation.
I think the only people Zemthias would be
sort of more comfortable with is Rowan and Ophelia.
And occasionally being like, to either of you guys, feeling like,
we should probably go speak to Gruff at some point, right?
Sure.
All right, what is Daisy doing?
Let's go around to the table.
Probably hiding.
Like, you probably haven't seen Daisy in a while.
Do you think you're below deck?
I feel like she's just moving around
in a way that she's managing to avoid everybody,
because she's too uncomfortable to speak to anybody.
And then I think she's probably found a little nook somewhere
where she can sit and she's probably drawing out
from memory and from Nim's memory the map that we were shown
when we saw the Watch Commander and stuff,
just so that there's another version of it
that she can give to Gruff or to Joran, whoever needs it.
There's probably, on the back of the ship, there's not like a ledge or a shelf,
but there's like a kind of stuck out little section behind the railing, and you can kind of hop down there.
And it's safe, it's not like dodging anything, and there's plenty of room for you to sit cross-legged.
But because it's sort of back behind Joran and the sail,
most people aren't going to look there.
So you probably like hunkered down there.
Yeah. And so you've been there for like the last,
you know, maybe hour or so, couple of hours drawing,
just beginning now to hear Mateo working on this little song.
Yeah, I feel like Daisy just doesn't want to make anything
worse or bad in any way, because she feels like
she woke Xanthias up and now he's been in this worse or bad in any way because she feels like
she walks Antheus up and now he's been in this predicament and then she's just like, I'm just gonna stay away.
As you've been sort of, because you've been listening
to like Matero testing out this tune as well,
like Nim is probably quite softly like humming along
to the tune that he's working on and is like,
she's quite enjoying the music like,
cause Nim, oh sorry, they are,
Nim doesn't really have a,
is aware that this is a problem,
but is very happy to have a distraction
from your nervous kind of thoughts.
What's Ophelia doing?
Let's leave Gruff till last, shall we?
I think Ophelia would be,
I don't think she'd be wanting to sit still.
I think she'd be very like kind of
antsy and pacing and patient.
I think she'd be sort of spider climbing up the rigging,
like looking out if there's like a crow's nest of sorts.
Not really on a ship this size,
it's too small for that really.
But you could be at the front of the boat,
basically a prowl, with your spider climb basically
like out on the front, literally sort of like,
you know, sort of gargoyling there.
Just sort of looking out for danger,
or like walking around the hull of the ship as well,
checking to see if we're being followed by anything,
if there's any danger.
Just sort of pacing around the ship in her...
Nervously kind of keeping an eye out.
Yeah, in a strange vampiric way.
And I think her like, she'd be looking a bit of a state.
Like she'd have sort of blood stains on her clothes,
her face paint kind of almost a stain now.
Like, it's quite faded.
Where it's been half, like,
sweated and mudged off and like, yeah, faded.
You've not had a chance to reapply it.
You don't have Percy to help you.
Your hair's a bit of a mess.
No, my makeup's all gone.
Yeah, my hair's like a bird's nest of just tangles
and like, just a mess, basically.
She looks almost kind of like a shell of herself, in a way.
Just trying to keep busy in her own strange way.
Not helped by this almost agitated,
nervous pacing around, like,
creating this very erratic figure
that's sort of perhaps not helping the atmosphere
and making it feel a lot more on edge.
She's sort of creeping everybody out.
I love it.
And she's not slept either.
Yeah.
So she's even more of a state.
Some of you have.
Zanthea's got a good...
I had a good mini nap.
Yeah, well you had like half of an evening basically.
Yeah, yeah.
All right, what's Rowan doing?
Rowan was put to work early on, wasn't he?
Yeah, but you don't have to be,
like you could have pulled away from that,
it's up to you, it's your choice. I can imagine in that instance, if he's still doing stuff,
he's always looking at Gruff.
And then whenever Gruff looks his way, he looks back down again
and then shuffles around.
And then later on he's caught staring at Gruff again.
And he looks away again.
And he doesn't really know what to do, so he's sat on a crate now
just kind of kicking his feet, staring at Gruff.
Okay.
Last but not least, what's Gruff doing?
He's coiling a rope.
Just? Just coiling ropes.
Yep, tidying up.
Staring out into the blue.
Yeah.
All the ropes are coiled.
He uncoils a rope, coils the rope again.
Just keeping those hands busy.
Yeah, letting the mind wander, unfortunately.
Like keeping physically active,
but staring out a very unchanging horizon
leaves a lot of room for thoughts.
Um, so perhaps those of you who are looking to distract yourselves,
so in some ways perhaps you're not,
as the events of last night, for three of you at least,
certainly flash in very rapid succession, some more than others.
He's very much as well, like he's positioned himself
probably at the front of the boat,
so that he purposely cannot look at anyone.
Like all you can see is his back.
Sure, yeah.
From every angle.
Yeah.
Like the opposite of a painting.
I think.
Or a painting.
Oh my god, not the fucking or a painting.
You know, Ophelia, certainly the events
of last night flash through.
Could you have done anything differently?
What if you'd done this? What if you'd done that?
What if you hadn't done this?
Should you have killed that man? Would that have been easier?
Should you have just left?
Like all of these thoughts kind of repeating.
For Rowan, it's that moment of getting to the docks,
trying to explain to Gruff, and just seeing that sternly and in face,
get on the boat, and that was it.
And that's like just replaying in your mind
over and over again.
For Xanthius, it's that paralyzing moment
of being in that room with that authoritarian,
those two priests, knowing you had no escape,
thinking, what would you have done?
And almost feeling, maybe not a voice,
but you know that sovereign would have encouraged you
to maybe a more violent solution.
And that panic, that fear,
for Daisy, it's being stuck in the hotel, not knowing.
Not knowing what to do, not knowing where to go,
who is, you know, what...
Just being left abandoned.
Until Matteo at least showed up.
And for Gruff, I think it's that image of seeing
Watch Commander Mirana Taravos on the docks,
watching you leave,
and just knowing, just knowing what you've done
to that woman.
And as the boat continues on,
as these moments you would just hear,
Captain.
They struck with spells and blades of light
and fought with courage and all their might
as the churning sea was against their side.
The beast controlled the very tide.
But oh, can the heroes of Ashen's rest,
oh, can the heroes of Ashen's rest,
just continuing to work on a little song
for his first meeting with you.
You would hear Sajoran for the first time in a while.
Like he's been speaking, but it is like,
need someone to hold that down
or someone come and help me with his sail
and things like that.
He would probably kind of call out like, we're about half a day from netting on sea just along
the coast now but we're gonna have to sail in a bit. Rocks get kind of dangerous over this way
there's a lot of a lot of short shallow corals that rise up so we need to pull in a little bit
so just be on the be on the lookout and just you begin to see the boat list.
And now, as you're drawing,
you've been following the coastline
and this beautiful, very sort of like
Cornish coastline cliffs,
like White Cliffs of Dover kind of esk coastline.
There's a sandy rocky beach,
but then tall cliffside, but then grass,
and you see maybe the occasional farmhouse,
but for a lot of the time it's quite barren and empty.
You can see in the very distant, distant horizon
what maybe is like an old, very, very old ruined tower,
and you can maybe make out beginnings of like smoke
and things curling up from what might be a village
sort of half a day sail away.
But as you draw closer, I hand it over to you guys.
I'm gonna sip my juice for a bit.
I think at some point,
Rowan is gonna try and gather Xanthia Sefilia.
I will point out, this boat is very, very small.
It is very hard to like,
you would need to be right at the back next to Sir Joran
like whispering to each other
if you wanna have a conversation away from Gruff.
Why would you wanna?
Hey, we gotta speak to Gruff.
Yes, we do.
I just don't know, I don't know what to say.
I know, we just offer everything up,
whatever he needs for the rest of his life.
That's all we need to do.
She's just clearly so angry.
You two don't need to say anything to Gruff.
What happened last night was none of your fault.
For starters, you had nothing to do with it.
You were just caught up in my mess.
Well, I think my mess spilled into your mess a little bit.
But if I hadn't have done what I'd done,
then you wouldn't have been in the mess in the first place.
I've been in a lot of messes, Ophelia.
I just don't know how Gruff got us out of that.
It seemed like we were stuck in a pretty tricky situation.
I don't know what he did.
Did you see the watch commander on the beach?
She looked furious. Did you see Gruff commander on the beach? She looked furious.
Did you see Gruff?
Ah, I actually can see Gruff now.
I know, I've been looking all this time.
That's the sixth coil of rope,
just coiled, uncoiled, over and over again.
As a point, Daisy, because you're at the back,
like, you hear all of this, but like, this is, you know,
Gruff, you've pretty good perception.
If you, you know, they're whispering, so I'd say maybe you're not catching any of this, but this is gruff. I imagine you have pretty good perception. If you, you know, they're whispering,
so I'd say maybe you're not catching any of this,
but Daisy, you and Sajoran are right there
as they're having this whispered conversation.
I think after I've made my map,
I will just lay down flat, just staring at the sky.
Just clouds, occasional sail mast,
kind of like, scooping overhead.
Just like, help! That's kind of like, sweeping overhead. Just like, hell.
That's, that's, yeah.
Sure.
All right, on three.
On three, what are we doing?
On three, we go.
Go, do what?
Who's gonna speak first?
I don't wanna...
I can speak first, if you like.
If you want to.
Okay, you happy with that?
Sure, fine.
Okay.
Okay, it's gonna be easy. We've dealt with it worse.
No, we haven't. No, we haven't.
This is rough.
We've done prototype magic, Paul.
Do you want me to do it?
No, it's... We should do it together.
We'll all be there, at least. I don't... I tend... I have...
a wonderful way of saying just the wrong things.
Have you noticed that about me?
I didn't want to say anything, but maybe yes.
Take a back seat.
Okay, all right.
I'll just, okay, you guys, I'll be with you.
Just nod.
Nod.
Look sad, I am sad.
Look apologetic, I am apologetic.
Yeah.
Okay, let's go.
We squeak our way over every plank,
making a little like...
Eh.
Towards Gruff.
His back is so intimidating right now.
We're shaking.
Probably tons of like, just go forward, go down.
We can go down.
Slow down a little bit.
The point talking, hang on.
I'm overboard.
And here we slowly make our way.
Excuse me, Sir Gruffiford's tremoro.
Full title.
We would like to have a word if you're not busy.
Hello.
Hello.
I'm going overboard.
Cast water breathing, we're living in a scene.
I'm gonna grow some gills.
I'll just sort of gently like elbow nudge Ophelia.
Gruff, if you want to speak with me, you can.
These two had nothing to do with what happened last night.
I'm ready to talk, if you'd like to.
Gruff.
At that. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Two nights since our confrontation with Lord Obsidius.
Yes. Just two nights since I used my words
to break a vulnerable man open.
And then not two nights later,
I find myself once again using my words
to tear down the life of a good, honourable woman.
I cannot do this again.
My wife once told me to lose patience is to lose the battle.
Well, I am losing the battle.
I expected the test of virtues to come from others.
I did not expect it to come from those I consider myself close to.
I don't have an answer to this.
Gruff, I'm... I'm truly sorry.
Really. For everything. All I've done, from you especially, is take and I've never given back.
You caught me from the air, you released your very blood to save me and bring me back from the dead,
you've given me gold to spend frivolously and I've never paid you back for any of that either.
I guess the truth is I don't really know how to give, at least not with my own interests in heart. All I've done is take and fight for myself.
That's how I've been raised, is to fight and live and survive.
That's all I know how to.
I wanted your trust.
I needed it because without you and without that, how could I possibly function here?
I'm not from here, I don't know the rules, I don't know what I'm doing, honestly.
And you've never judged me, you've never turned me away from my beliefs, you've let me practice freely,
and you've never cast your gaze away from me.
You've always been supportive of me, and honestly, Gruff, you were easy prey.
And I'm sorry about that.
I'm sorry for taking advantage of you and your good heart.
It was wrong of me.
I could never, I will never ask anything of you again. Ever.
I don't deserve it.
I don't deserve you.
Any of you.
You will see, won't say anything, but just from behind you, Ophelia, just a hand placed on your shoulder, Mattea looking very unsure what to say, but just sensing that this is
tense and just puts a hand on your shoulder, just a reassuring, you are heard.
Gruffydd, Sir Gruffydd of Tremorro.
I got on a knee.
I lied.
I can't believe I lied. I thought I was helping, but I, I buggered her.
I, uh, I heard the screams from Ophelia's room and, and it came running and, uh, it was pretty sleepy.
But either way, I think I made it worse for Ophelia for sure.
And then that's what made it 10 times worse
for the guards probably.
I don't know why the guards came.
Might be in the chair.
Either way, I made the whole mess worse.
So I'm sorry for lying.
Do you actually, does Gruff actually?
I'm just, I'm giving you, like, if you wanna say it,
like, I'm not.
You don't have to say it.
Well, that's the thing, I've got.
Yeah, I know, I know.
I think the question is,
is Gruff looking at Xanthias expectantly, or is?
I would say that there probably is almost like,
he's still got his back to everybody. But he to everybody. But there would, he would be turning
just to where he thinks Xanthias is.
There is like an expectation of something to say.
Maybe.
I've got things to say, it's just...
Maybe, like...
You can infer from that turn what Xanthias would infer.
Gruff, Gruffeth of Tremorru, uh,
I don't know what to say to you.
I, I, I'm just sorry.
I could say how terrible I feel, but you don't want to hear that.
I could tell you the events of what happened,
how things spiraled out of control,
but you don't want to hear that.
I don't know what to say to you.
I don't know what to say to you.
I don't know what to say to you. I don't want to hear that. I could tell you the events of what happened,
how things spiraled out of control,
but you don't want to hear that.
I'm just sorry.
And I want to pretend that things will be better,
but I don't know if that's going to be true.
I'm just, I'm just sorry.
Ron puts an arm around Xanthias' endophilia,
just waiting now for Gruff.
Ready to stand firm,
because we're about to get attacked.
Tidal wave!
You would, I think there's a beat after Xanthias stops speaking, and then you see Gruff's shoulders
drop and he sighs, like just a really long sigh, and he will, he'll turn around.
Rowan. I... Sorry. And he will turn around.
Rowan.
I'm sorry, I thought that was a tremor. Just stop that.
Sorry.
Stop it.
Yep.
I will never say it again.
You were just helping a friend.
I know.
I know you.
You were helping a friend in trouble.
He looks up and he's got tears in his eyes.
He's streaming.
His bottom lip is quivering.
I'm so sorry, Graeme.
Saint-Thiers.
I know you just got caught up in it and...
I know it wasn't your fault.
I know that you were in a bad situation. Did they hurt you? No, they didn't. Did they treat you fairly? Yes, they did.
Sister Ophelia, what I'm about to say I say with the greatest of respect for you.
This life of passions you have, it sounds wonderful.
Especially to someone like me who is every day is work and toil. But if I'm honest, it sets you up for a life of failure
when you don't have servants to care for you.
Sometimes you do have to knuckle down to hard graft
and learn how to care for yourself,
how to clean up your own mistakes.
yourself, how to clean up your own mistakes.
Your great father, he's failed you.
Now I'm sorry that in all this, we haven't had a chance to reclaim your Percival.
Maybe that is something we need to do sooner rather than later.
I am angry.
I am disappointed.
These things shall pass.
Just give me time.
But do not.
Do not let me down again.
Please. Not now.
I'm begging you.
I wouldn't ever let I won't ever let you down ever.
Gruff, I'm not asking for your forgiveness and I don't expect you to.
But as I said, I will no longer ask anything of you.
At least that's to do with the Grey Father and blood and all of that stuff.
My moments of weakness are my own to carry.
And I will carry those heavy burdens on my own
for as long as I can.
And I will be by your side if you will allow me to.
I will help you as long as I can.
Sister Ofilo, I think you missed the point.
We are stronger together.
You never asked me for these things
because you didn't have to ask me.
I give them freely because I saw you needed help.
Enough. What happened last night, I know there was no malice.
I know, I know it was a series of events that spiralled out of control.
But I have had to do something I am not proud of.
And that hurts.
We can be better than this.
We have to be better than this.
Rowan puts up a hand.
Rowan, don't be like that.
If I may, could you...
Could you, uh, explain what you did?
How we got out?
You would see Gruff because you are turned back towards them, behind them.
Your vision almost blurs of these three.
As you see Sir Joran on the tiller, cigarette.
He's looking at you.
Just smoking one of his paper cigarettes.
But he's looking at you.
You know he's waiting for an answer, too.
I called in a favour.
I asked a good and honourable woman to do something
that means her entire life is going to come crashing down
because...
She did it to protect Xanthias because I asked her.
And now all of us and you, Ser Joran, cannot return to Wavesmeet.
Sounds about right.
Flicks the cigarette off the side.
I'm sorry.
Gruffydd, I gave you that favour knowing that this was a likely outcome.
I didn't know what you would use it for.
I didn't...
Whatever trouble your draconic friend is in, it's not my business.
It's an extreme response, so I can only assume
it's something rather severe.
But I gave you that favour willingly and of my own will.
My heart wasn't set on wave meat.
I'm a man of the sea. This whole coast is beautiful. My heart wasn't set on a wave meet.
I'm a man of the sea.
This whole coast is a beautiful golden bronze gold coast.
This is my home.
This is the gestures.
Open sky and blue waters.
This is my home.
What I am sad for is whatever's happened to Merala.
You don't need to say anything, but if it's severe enough,
it will cost her her career, it'll cost her her honor.
But she did owe me that.
Favor for a favour.
It's not...
I do not take that responsibility lightly.
And I thank you for your understanding.
See it as a lesson.
Not just to Gruffydd, to all of you.
We're not defined by the mistakes we make.
We're defined by the things we do after.
Just nods.
I will be fine.
We...
well. I will be fine. We...
well...
we'll see in the following days.
Rowan, Xanthias...
I think Xanthias now...
when you said that it was to save Xanthias,
that her life is crashing down,
there's almost those words, like, really save Xanthias, that her life is crashing down. There's almost those words like really hit Xanthias in almost a physical way, where he's not recoiled from it as such, but there is a confirmation for Xanthias
that he didn't want to know necessarily.
But there's almost like, obviously you don't see this, but for Xanthias it's like
there is an anger that's sort of building up because of this, knowing that because of Xanthius this person's life is ruined.
And this night as well on the ship, and kind of just looking out to sea now,
like, very...
..in my own thoughts.
Er...
Yeah.
Yeah.
Move to the back where there's a railing,
kind of grip the sides of it.
Oh, there's not railings at the front, sorry.
No, it's kind of more open, but...
Yeah, I mean, if...
You kind of step away. Yeah. Not to not listen more open, but. Yeah, I mean if a... Kind of step away.
Yeah.
Not to not listen, but you know, like.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Rowan, if you could do me a favor right now,
I need you to check in with Daisy.
She was left behind in all of this.
She could do with your companionship right now.
He bows.
Stop that.
Um...
He gets out of his satchel a really stale latte fun cookie.
Well, it's only two days.
Do you like a cookie?
Not now, lad. Give it to Daisy.
All right.
He's testing how hard it is, it's really hard.
And he shuffles over to the bank.
Sister Ophelia.
Ophelia nods silently.
Come with me.
And he kind of falters and then digs around his satchel
and just pulls out a comb.
So carved from horn or bone, scrimshaw, proper ice-hard comb,
this smaller than what you would normally use?
If I may.
Yes, yes, yes, please.
Yes, yes, yes, please. I'm on my first.
And as we walk to somewhere to, you know, sit down and comb our hair out,
I'll pass by Xanthias,
and I will just lean down beside you and in your ear.
It was worth it to get you out.
You are worth protecting.
And then he walks off with Ophelia.
I think Anxanthius' head like that,
pierces through the noise,
but it is just like static in there.
It's hearing that back over and over again,
but then there's like, no it wasn't, no you're not,
like all of these different things just like
flooding through as I'm just, yeah.
Gripping, I almost imagined that.
You're gripping closed eyes.
The majority, those no you're. No, it wasn't.
Some of it's in your voice.
Some of it isn't.
Yeah, yeah.
Some of it is a very different voice.
Well...
Rowan, you go to the back of the ship.
You don't really... you don't know where Daisy is,
but there's only... she's either below decks or off the side.
You're not really sure where Daisy is at this point.
You will just see a hand come up with a cookie.
Yeah, because you've heard the whole thing.
Yeah, from your vision looking at the sky,
Rowan's head silhouettes the sun.
Just leans in.
Hey.
My hand's a cookie.
Thank you.
It might be a little hot.
It's okay. No, that's fine.
You okay?
Yeah, I just didn't want to make anything worse
or get in the way.
Me too, I think I...
I don't like it.
Did you hear all of that?
Yep, yep, yep.
Matteo leans in at this point.
Was my singing, did that ruin,
I thought it was, I was just working on my song.
No, it was nice.
Would that ruin things?
No. No, is that okay?
No, it's breaking the silence.
Oh good, okay good.
Should I, what should I do?
Keep working.
Keep working. It's quite nice.
Does it sound alright?
It sounds pretty good actually.
Okay good.
Are you alright?
Yeah.
Are you alright?
No.
Don't be silly big man, you're fine.
You're fine, you'll be alright.
Yeah.
Pack, pack, pack.
Got a cookie now, so.
Can I have half?
No.
Oh.
My cookie.
That's fair.
My cookie.
Daisy will probably make her way out
and just give the map that she made to Gruff.
Just in case you need like a solid copy, I know it's in here,
but I thought you might like it here,
because you need to lead the whole boat thing.
Thank you, Daisy.
And almost absentmindedly,
because he's kind of half-combing,
I feel like he's really not.
He actually just reaches out and pats you on the head.
Not in a patronizing way, but in a- not in a patronizing way, but in a-
Not in a patronizing way, but in a comforting way.
Yeah, like a- Yeah.
Like a, a appreciative way.
That's okay, let me know if you need any other versions.
I can, I can draw them up.
You okay?
Yeah, everyone gave me a cookie.
Well then, you're okay.
I might break my teeth on it.
This is very stale, but it's fine.
You think that stale blasts go.
You should introduce it to a hardsack at some point.
You think that's bad.
You get to soften it with sea water just to be able to not break your teeth.
Disgusting.
Ugh.
And this is the life, is it?
No, no.
If you ever hear sailors saying,
oh, a sailor's life for me, they're talking a load of shite.
It's not true. Being a sailor is horrible, it's awful.
But for those of us who hear the call,
hear the sirens call of the sea, you can't resist it.
It's just what it is.
You know, it's not all bad.
Sometimes you get, you don't have to always be eating hardtack
and sometimes the night's on the ship with your mates,
singing songs and drinking brew and that'd be nice.
That sounds good.
It's not bad.
He just sort of like, yeah, goes back to his business,
kind of just chipping in conversation
where he feels it's appropriate.
Trying to take too much away from it.
Matteo very much is like the same,
like looking around like,
I don't know these people very well,
but like, ooh, I'm in their drama.
Here you are.
Ooh.
I think Rowan will sit next to Mateo
and get out sostenuto and kind of,
well, you play, keep figuring things out,
and I'll provide some compliment.
All right, all right, that's very good.
So if we can go somewhere with it.
And start jamming together,
just kind of helping him work a few things out.
Oh, maybe go up here.
Oh, oh, oh.
He's doing a lot like that.
I think hearing more sort of talk around the ship
and people not getting along more,
but it's not just awkward silences and things like that.
People are actually-
It's starting to like unravel and break now.
Like that tension, the moments like it's kind of cracked
and it's beginning to unwind.
Yeah, I think, it's not like Xanthius
for the rest of the boat trip is just gonna be
on the edge of the ship.
I think he will eventually, like really long breath in,
constantly tensing his jaw,
trying to flood these noises out of his head
until they eventually vanish to the waves and the wind
and the speech and the music as well,
and would eventually turn around again
and sort of rejoin the crew.
But there's definitely a distraction,
but it's not anything he's gonna bring up anytime soon.
He wants to flood it out by getting on with the mission.
Sure.
Going back to the physical work,
to try and fill in, like, you know,
maybe asking if anything needs doing and things like that.
Yeah, like, after the, I mean mean it's only been a couple of hours,
but there's some stuff I was doing before.
I'll just start doing that again.
Hopefully it will help make boat go.
Yeah, so Joran is like, he can correct,
he can sail the ship on his own,
but having an extra pair of hands just means
that he can focus on other things basically.
So he'll like, yep, grab that line, he'll tell you,
oh, grab that line, lad, you know, get that line,
you know, very good.
Pull it when I tell you, and things like that.
You know, it's kind of boring laboring work
where it's a lot of like just pulling ropes
and like watching sails and the Sunkist has like
these weird side sails that help catch the wind as well
and it's like controlling those and things like that.
Cool.
So we know Gruff and Ophelia are kind of at the front
of the boat, you know, sat down on the floor on the deck,
being, having hairbrushed and things like that.
Rowan, you're sat down with Matteo just kind of
jamming on music.
Xanthius, you're doing like this kind of like dog's body
work and sort of like just keeping him physically busy.
Yeah, like I guess if we're coming in closer to the shore
and stuff, if there's a rope to pull, I'll pull a rope.
Sure, yeah.
But you're at least in a position where like,
you are also very aware of like the sea as well
at this point, cause you're kind of like working,
pulling the ropes and looking at the water.
I think I'm still, it's still like, yeah,
like the eyes are looking in that direction,
but I'm so inward right now that it's just like, nothing is in focus.
It's just like daydream kind of sort of vibe.
What's Daisy doing?
Probably actually looking at where they're going
and just observing, because she hasn't been on a boat.
So she's just kind of taking it.
Looking at the horizon. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Especially as you're drawing closer to the coast,
there's like things to see and like rocky outcroppings
and things like that.
And probably just like in her mind comparing it to the map
and following that in her head.
So you would see like, occasionally you start to see
like little rocky islands, really not more than just like
a mound of stone out in the middle of the sea, and they
seem to attract creatures, like you see one which is covered, it's like this little tiny rocky island
covered with these tiny little, almost like puffin or penguin-like birds, but they have like shimmering
feathery kind of like surface over them. And their eyes kind of almost give off
like little bits of magic as they're like looking around.
Obviously some sort of native creature
to this province basically.
Just trying not to make another creature extinct.
Yeah, yeah.
And you see all of this going.
In that case, Daisy, can you give me a perception check?
Cause you are keeping a more active watch?
Is it time for fate? You can't get lower,
oh, in fact, yes, actually, let's do fate before then.
Okay. Because also,
I have to explain some new fate things.
Ooh!
I'm gonna be happy with it!
So a D6 from everyone, please.
Four.
Four, that's a dice.
I should have pulled my dice tray more.
You!
I got a five.
I got a five.
Oh, a dice for you.
A four. A dice for you. I got a five. Oh, dice for you. A four.
A dice for you.
Oh my God.
Five.
Oh, look at this, a dice for you.
Is it a five?
Oh.
Fully stacked.
Except you have to roll yours.
A five.
Yay.
Well, this is very exciting, especially as...
Nothing could go wrong.
Nothing could go wrong.
I'm still tweaking the Crucible of Fate rules.
I'm still kind of making adjustments here and there.
There's gonna be some things which I'm gonna change back
to how they were, and we're also adding in
some new stuff as well.
So, I wrote these down to explain them.
So, we're gonna go back to the system
where you have to declare you're using fate before you roll,
so you can't just add it on retroactively now.
So it makes it a little bit different
to things like bardic inspiration and stuff like that,
which I believe you can add after the roll.
But with this, you have to declare
you're gonna spend fate before you roll.
Add a d6 on an attack roll, a saving throw,
or an ability check, just like before.
You can use them to make a devil's bargain,
so like sometimes when you guys want to bend the rules
or like do something that's a little bit
sort of not mechanically in the game,
you can spend a fate point to ask me to do that
and we'll come up with an agreement for that.
You might also find magic items or special boons
or powers that might require fate
to be spent to activate them.
We haven't had too many of those yet,
but I'm hoping to introduce more of them.
And then this is the new one.
When you fail an ability check,
so not an attack roll or a saving throw,
but when you fail an ability check,
you can spend a point of fate to reduce the severity
of the failure, basically.
Or to add like some minor benefit to the failure.
You still fail at what you're trying to do,
but this is gonna make it more in line with things
like the Star Wars fancy flight system,
with the Warhammer system.
You get like a little something,
or it makes the severity not as bad.
And I like the sort of idea that narratively,
this follows on from the disaster series
of events that happen.
What disasters?
Why?
Perhaps learning from lessons,
or perhaps fate taking a bit of a shine on you
to try and help prevent these in the future.
Tom, you had a question.
Yeah, so only if you haven't spent fate to boost the roll.
So, yes, this is the other thing.
So, you can only spend, you guys can spend a fate
on a single, shall we say incident or event.
I can only spend one fate on an incident or event.
So you can't say like, I'm gonna boost it by a D6,
oh I failed anyway, oh well I'll spend one
to make the effect less, right?
So you have to choose between, do I wanna try
and push it and get that success,
or if I fail it, I kind of make it less bad.
To counteract that on the DM side of things,
gonna work the same as before,
I can spend one to activate a powerful enemy ability.
So generally this will be boss monsters
or very powerful monsters that'll have fate abilities.
I'm gonna add back in that I can spend them
to boost a damage roll of a normal monster
or I can choose to give a monster some temp HP.
I'm gonna test that one out.
I wanna see if it makes fights,
if it makes a big difference or not.
Then the new one, which is when you guys succeed
on an ability check, I can spend a point of fate
to add a minor complication.
Now you're still going to get what you want,
but then I get to add like a little narrative twist
that maybe makes it a bit like,
oh, there's a little bit of a cost to it.
So you still get what you want,
but there's like an additional cost.
And I think I used the example of-
That's for 20 to wake up, however.
However, exactly.
Or like for me the example is like,
oh, somebody's climbing up like a stone wall or a cliff side.
You succeed, oh actually, you know what,
I'm gonna spend a point of fate,
and as you climb up you kick like a handhold loose
and that's gonna now make the climb harder
for anybody after you, right?
So you still get up there fine,
but now the climb is harder for anybody else.
Or you're talking to the guard,
and you wanna convince the guard
to let you speak to the queen,
but I'm gonna spend a point of fate
so that now that guard is gonna want a favor from you
in return, and is gonna make sure they collect
on that favor kind of thing.
Yeah, okay.
So it's like adding success with a small cost
and I do mean I'll try and make it narratively minor.
Same for you guys, like it will
minorly reduce the effect of a thing.
So it's just like a new way to spend fate basically.
Yeah, that's cool.
If you fail on an ability check or if you succeed,
we can like add some narrative elements to it.
I like it.
And I'm still playing around with it.
But you guys are fully loaded, so go nuts.
Good luck with your complications.
Oh yeah, I can't, I can't have them.
You've got a breezy time.
Breezy time.
Nothing will go wrong.
Nothing will go wrong.
You could, you could have bought them.
But don't forget.
I think it's killed someone again.
Don't forget, in certain combats,
if you have too many fate,
most powerful monsters will have some sort of ability
where I get to go yoink and yoink them back.
With that, Daisy, perception roll from you.
Because you are actively checking around,
you can't get lower than your passive perception
is what I'm gonna say.
So whatever your passive perception is,
you can't get lower than that.
I will allow Xanthius, I will let everybody else,
you can make a perception,
but you're gonna be at disadvantage
because you're distracted by other things.
I think for me, it's like any cluding,
any noise or anything out of the ordinary
is enough to sort of shake out.
19.
19 total, okay.
18.
Okay, great, even with the disadvantage.
I rolled an 11 and a 12.
Nice, love it.
20 at disadvantage.
20 at disadvantage.
13 with disadvantage. 13 with disadvantage. Minus one. Min 12. Nice, love it. 20 at disadvantage. 20 at disadvantage. 13 with disadvantage.
13 with disadvantage.
Minus one.
Minus one, we love it.
You are very much internal.
I got an S1, again, not perception.
Like, it's crazy.
You're deep in your thoughts.
I'm gonna go with the lowest,
and then we're gonna build our way up
to those in the highest.
So what was it?
Remind me, Katie, you got an 18.
19.
So it'll be... What did you, Katie, you got an 18. 19. A 19. So it'd be, uh, uh, uh.
What did you get though, total?
18.
18.
You three are in the same category, basically,
so it's just gonna be a thing.
So the first thing, and you guys noticed this as well,
I feel like as you're kind of maybe staring out,
you can feel gruff brushing your hair,
combing your hair, you begin to notice
that off on the coast,
you know, there's a series of these rocks
and it's getting quite rocky around this area.
You notice flotsam, debris,
like barrels and pieces of driftwood,
but way too many of them,
barrels and crates and pieces of wood,
and is that a bit of sail kind of smashed up
against a bunch of rocks
and some of it's like bobbing and floating there?
And it just kind of catches your eye for a moment.
Gruff and Daisy, you would also notice this,
remember you're gonna get a little bit more at the end.
You notice the same thing, but your keen eyes catch
that actually there are just beyond that flotsam
up on the shore and amongst all the rocks on the coastline,
you see bodies.
You can see, or at least they look, they could be dead,
they could be unconscious, you're not sure,
but you can see several, you're not quite sure,
probably citizens of the Suncrest Isles washed up,
just like lifeless forms on the beach.
Then you see something.
Something comes out of the ocean, grabs one of these bodies
and then whips it back into the water.
Pfft.
And you just, as soon as it's underwater,
it's like the water is very cloudy,
it's like very silty around here.
You just don't see it once it goes under the water.
Rowan, you got a 20.
Dirty 20.
You notice all of that, but you then look down
from your side of the boat,
where you and Mateo are grinning.
You look over the thing,
and you are the only one who sees this.
Oh no, correction, sorry.
Daisy and Gruff, you're gonna notice this,
you are not surprised by this in this upcoming ambush.
As shapes from below,
you see something about to launch itself
up from underneath the water onto your ship.
The three of you are not surprised,
Matteo, Ophelia, Zanthius, and Sir Joran,
because he was working the tiller, are all surprised.
You will not get to act in the first round of initiative
as creatures breach the water and attack the boat.
The first one you see is a colossal orange crab-like beast.
Oh.
Oh, hi there.
Okay, hit the weak spot for passive damage.
Almost jumping up from sort of around the ship.
Kind of trying, they are attached to the sides,
but you see several of these kind of smaller creatures.
Oh, no, no, no, no, no.
Gross.
I can't really reach very well.
If somebody can put two of these on the opposite side.
You don't need that, just like this.
They're my new children.
Face them the other way, please.
Oh, he's blue.
Turn them to, they're heads.
Oh, I see.
Yes, they point that way.
And then finally, two more.
Oh, they are very trypophobia.
As these guys, can you put this one
in the middle of the other two, please?
You see, so the big, there's one huge creature,
four of these smaller creatures that almost have like coral
that's grown over their big, large, flat heads.
And then two of them with these spine starfish shields
and these clawed-like hands, all very crab-like
and carcinous, these creatures, these humanoids,
kind of just, preach the water and there is no battle cry.
They are eerily silent as they just launch themselves
onto the ship.
The moment you spot it, it happens.
And that is initiative.
Whoa!
Okay.
Is there a change to initiative if I'm surprised?
Or is it just, I don't know.
You still roll, you just don't act in the first turn.
Okay, okay.
Oh damn.
Are you shitting on my full face right now?
Yes.
No, you'd know.
No. You'd know. No.
You'd know.
I'd feel it.
So for the purposes of this, I'm going to run Mateo.
Kim has Sir Joran's stats, as he's going to act
as a retainer for Gruffydd.
And then the creatures.
Give me a minute, there is a lot of things
to write initiatives for. There is, in fact. Just take them away. the creatures. Give me a minute, there is a lot of things
to write initiatives for.
There is in fact, six creatures.
Six, yes.
Six creatures.
Four.
There should be seven, because there's the big lad,
two soldiers, and then four little lads.
Rowan's a fat ass.
My god.
My god.
Right, do give me a minute while I roll all my baddies.
In fact, actually no, I'll take your initiatives
and then I'll roll my baddies' initiatives.
Daisy.
25.
Nice.
I rolled a nat 20.
Zanthias.
Three, I rolled a two.
Gruff.
I rolled a nat 20 plus one, 21.
21, Rowan.
19.
It makes sense, you three have all rolled really high
because you're actually alert to this. Ophelia. 14. 14, soan. 19. It makes sense, you three have all rolled really high because you're actually alert to this.
Ophelia. 14.
14, so reflexes kick in,
but you are surprised, unfortunately.
Is he drawing a head?
Where is old Mateo Deadeye?
Ah!
Maybe she's like, ow, ow, ow.
It's a process, it's a process, it's a process.
Mateo is a nine.
I am learning, I am learning, I am learning.
So Joran can act immediately after you, Gruffuth,
but not in the first turn, he is surprised.
So I'm gonna put him at 21 as well,
but as a reminder, he goes after you, basically.
And then finally, I've got a roll for my lands.
For the naming purposes, the big creature,
which is currently on the right side of the ship,
is a brute.
Lovely six initiative for them.
The creatures with the nets and the tridents
are called crablings.
Which there is four crablings.
I want to eat.
They are color coordinated,
although the colors might be hard to see
because they'll just be painted.
The creatures with the starfish shields are soldiers.
Two of those, on either side.
Ooh, lovely, they're also a 17.
So they're still in the water, or are they like?
They are, so the boat itself,
because the boat annoyingly kind of sits
above the actual boat line, these guys are like right up on the boat itself, because the boat annoyingly kind of sits above the actual boat line,
these guys are like right up on the boat's keel.
Like they are, they are,
and it looks like they can easily clamber up
the sides of the boats if they wish to.
So this is not gonna be too difficult for them.
Damn.
Okay.
I will try my best to keep track of the HPs
and things like that.
Well, Daisy, you are the first to react.
You are not surprised, and yeah,
you see these things coming.
Your lightning fast reactions,
perhaps Nim helping you in that as well.
Making sure you're aware for the ambush,
as it is your turn.
Sorry, how far away from us are they at the moment?
They, so, annoyingly, because of the way the boat is angled,
they are like five feet by the keel.
So they are right.
And then say there's like a five foot like
up to the deck of the ship.
So you're like 10 feet from each of them currently.
Except the big brute who is tall enough
where he's within melee range of the side of the ship.
I would like to hop onto the banister
behind Sir Joran, like next to the sail, kind of.
To sort of try and not be in the middle of everything.
Okay, I'm gonna say, like, you can stand there,
but you are, it is precarious.
So if anything were to, like to hit you or knock you off,
it might be a bit scary.
Or maybe down on, there's the bit behind it, right?
Yeah, the bit where you are.
So the platform, so it's not just on the railing,
it's on the platform.
And can I shoot a blade at the big dude?
The big guy?
Yes, although from the back where you currently are,
if you're on the little railing,
he's probably gonna get a bit of cover from you.
Because you're kind of like throwing
around the corner of the boat.
I can shoot before I go.
You could, yeah, yeah, absolutely, yeah.
While you vault.
While I go.
I think I stuck wrong pretty firmly there.
Alright, against the big lad.
22 to hit.
22 will hit.
And he's within melee range of Xanthius,
so that means I get...
Sneak attack.
Sneak attack.
Mm.
I'm about to get chomped turn one and two.
Chomped it.
That was garbage.
20.
20 points of damage total.
Yes.
You watch as the blade of light fuzz
into the armored thick carapace of the creature
and it just kind of lets out this like, rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Throw a dagger as well. Yep.
One was a natural one, so. No, that's 18 to hit.
18 will hit.
Okay, okay, okay.
1d4.
Seven.
Another seven points of damage.
Yeah, you watch as these two blades of light
fly through the air as you hop over the banister
onto this ledge at the back of the ship.
Absolutely.
End of turn?
Yes, please.
All right, we go to Gruff.
So he will point his staff up,
and as the armor of Oaken Thorn spreads over his body,
First action.
the illusory Seren will shoot up to the sky
and as you've seen before,
crashing down is a bolt of lightning.
Cool lightning.
As I cast Cool Lightning,
I'm gonna cast it in between the big crab boy
on my side of the ship and then the one next to him as well.
So there are two, there's the Crabbling or the Soldier.
Is this...
Soldier is the one with the shield.
The Soldier.
The Crabbling is the one with the trident.
The Soldier.
I guess I can only hit two of them right.
It's a ten foot tall, sixty foot radius.
And it's the point, it's a five foot point and it hits every...
Each creature within five foot of the point.
So it would only hit those two.
Deck saving throw 15.
Okay, the big brute is gonna fail.
The soldier is going to also fail.
Oh sweet.
16 points of lightning damage.
16 points of damage.
So the brute takes the full amount
as the lightning sort of strikes the water and arcs
and splits into it.
You hear the creature kind of jerks for a moment.
The Soldier, you can see that on his person,
there's almost this coral rock,
almost placed or wrapped around with sinewy seaweed
and things like that.
As the Lightning strikes him,
that coral seems to absorb some of it,
and he is resistant. As the lightning strikes him, that coral seems to absorb some of it, and he is resistant.
And so...
Am I allowed to speak?
Yes.
Seems like a blessing from Oranya.
Or Janya.
Or Janya.
Could be.
Look for these armbands, these...
What the fuck would you call it?
It's all over them as well.
It's not just a single armband.
It's like, it's been built into its carapace.
It's in its shield.
It's almost wearing it like pauldrons and armor.
Runes, look for these runes or bands.
Just coral.
It's just coral.
Look for this, like a bluish, purple coral.
Look for this coral!
That's it, that's me.
All right.
Anything else on your turn, Gruff?
Nein.
All right, in that case, we go to Rowan.
I think Rowan's gonna spend his action
actually dragging Mateo behind him
because he's oblivious and surprised.
So he's gonna use this action to say,
Mateo, get behind me!
I am gonna very briefly just reorganize you guys here
because...
We were kind of over the side.
Yeah, Freddie was having a hairbrushed.
You guys were playing music over to the side,
so I'll reorganise you guys here.
So yeah, when you say behind you though,
to whence do you mean?
Because this is a very small ship.
To whence.
I'll just kind of be in the way of Mateo
and Creature in front, basically.
Okay, okay.
Depending on where they attack you from, you might give some cover,
but it's like, unless you have an ability that lets you do this,
it's very hard to, like, protect another character unless you have it.
Yeah, and just roleplay and stuff like that, yeah, for sure.
Yeah, you definitely are kind of, like, protecting him.
He's like, what's going on? He's, like, thrown to the side.
He's going to look behind him as well,
everyone else's current state of affairs,
being quite alert.
Look to Xanthius, who's kind of coming around.
Well, I think there was just a loud splash
of which I like immediately, you know,
when you hear a very loud noise,
you'd sort of jump down and then two light daggers
just flew right past me.
I'm like trying to look around to see what,
where this thing is happening from.
And then you literally see like a giant piercer grip
the banister as this hulking thing.
This is all just like rapid time for me.
He'll throw out an arm, his glyphs on his arm
will pulse with green energy, and he'll shout, Xanthius, let's not let Gruffoth down.
And it'll be bardic inspiration for you.
Nice.
All right, so make a note of that
and remember what you use it on
because it does affect the College of Creation's
bonus effect.
A D8?
D8, I believe.
D8, date.
Thank you, thank you, Roro.
Excellent.
That's all right, Zhen-Zen.
Zhen-y-wen-y.
So, after Rowan,
Rowan.
it is the Soldiers and the Crablings.
So, the Soldier, one of the Soldiers is gonna,
unfortunately, move to the back, Daisy,
and sort of half clamber up
to make some attacks against you.
Tom, that Soldier on that side,
can you get him up into the space between Sir Joran, no, the guy in the middle? Oh, yes. can you get him up into the space between Sir Joran,
no, the guy in the middle.
Can you get him up into the space
between Joran and Mateo there?
Ah, he's on the ship.
Yeah.
The little crablings, all of them,
they pull out these kind of like nets
made of thick kind of sinuous seaweed
that has heavy like spines and teeth all embedded it.
The Crablings are gonna go far,
no I have the Soldiers go first.
Nope, mechanically, tactically it's better
if the Crablings go first so I'm gonna do that.
Apologies.
They planned their assault.
Yeah, they absolutely have.
They all throw these nets.
They're gonna throw one at Xanthius, one at Ophelia,
one at Rowan, and one at Mateo.
So they throw these nets, basically.
So Ophelia, this is a Coral Razor net against you.
That is a 23 to hit.
Yep.
All right, you're gonna take only four points
of slashing damage, however you are restrained.
At the start of your turn, if you are restrained in this way, you take 2d6 slashing damage, however you are restrained. At the start of your turn, if you are restrained
in this way, you take 2d6 slashing damage.
As this net, you can feel it's made of like fine razor sharp
like needles and spines and it's digging into your flesh.
So you are currently restrained.
Fiberglass.
Santheus.
God.
That is a nine.
Nine does not hit.
Ah, you were surprised.
I would have had advantage.
You would have.
A nine, two nines.
Oh my god.
Maybe it's Rowan, maybe it's the thing behind you,
but you kind of duck as this.
I mean, yeah, I rapidly move, I guess,
in the fear of this attack.
Against Mateo.
Mateo is unfortunately hit.
He also takes four points of slashing damage and his restraint. Help! I'm just attacking against Mateo. Mateo is unfortunately hit. He also takes four points of slashing damage
and he's restrained.
Help!
I'm crying.
He's just wrapped up.
And then Gruff.
Oh no, so Rowan I said he was gonna be against.
Rowan, that is a, oh, only an 11.
Oh, that fails.
Yeah.
So, yes, yeah, make sure.
I just wanna check everyone's put their armor back on.
I'm wearing my major on.
I don't wear armor, I'm good.
Yeah.
Okay, okay.
Stuffed together so...
You do have to activate your thing though,
to summon your...
Like I put my back on in the hotel.
Yes.
But I was like, no, no, no, no, no.
That is...
Oh, and then all of the...
So they throw their nets as one action,
and then they hurl a trident, basically,
as their second action.
Their second action.
So I'll just do it against all the same targets,
because they would.
Who was restrained?
Ophelia, you were restrained, so this gets advantage.
Which it had anyway.
That is a 18 to hit you.
No, misses.
What?
18 misses.
Have you activated your army yet?
18.
I just think without your army? Yes Just think you're without your armor it's lower
So I think it's just set to your armor currently
Just well wearing it. I have plus one to AC does that count is that I think it's already
I think it's already factored in so it also counts as a certain counts as half plate
I believe on the armor class shield and it should tell you what your AC is currently made up of.
So tap on that, and it should say at the top,
like plus 12 and all that.
Okay, so 16 armor, living scarab armor.
Yes.
And then it had, then I have two for my decks,
then one for my magic bonus.
So yeah, so that would make it 19.
So it'd be 16.
19.
16 plus, yeah, so it is currently using your armor.
So I'm 16 base.
So what is your dex and con modifiers?
Dex is plus three, con is plus two.
So it'd be 15 base without the armor on.
So I'm 15, so it would have hit anyway.
So it does hit,
because you haven't activated that yet.
So that is going to be five points of piercing damage.
Oh, sorry, plus an extra 36, because it has a value, oh, six points of piercing damage. Oh sorry, plus an extra D6,
because he has a value, oh, six points of piercing damage.
So Trident sort of hits you,
and it pulls another one from its back.
They only seem to have one, a spare one each.
Rowan that's gonna throw one at you,
it does not have advantage,
however that is still a 21 to hit.
Yes.
That is gonna be five points of piercing damage
as a Trident strikes you.
Cool.
Xanthias, that is a natural 20, I'm afraid to say.
Ah!
So that is going to be...
Tucked down just enough for it to hit me in the face.
That is eight, that is 12 points of piercing damage.
Luckily you weren't surprised,
although that would have done even more damage
if you had been restrained.
Oh, you're right, yes, yeah.
No, I wasn't.
So yeah, this Trident catches your arm as it tears it,
and then it gets Mateo, who does have a advantage.
Yep, it definitely hits Mateo.
Some of you are.
Some of you are.
10 points of piercing damage to Mateo.
Mateo looks really bad already.
I told him.
Yeah?
Fucking told him.
Oh, I've been stabbed!
Help, help, help! As he calls out. Already. I told him. Yeah? Fucking told him. Ah! Oh! I've been stabbed!
Help, help, help!
Oh no.
As he calls out.
Then that is just the crablings turn,
but you can see they don't have any more tridents to throw.
They're now resorted to their backup trident, basically.
The two soldiers, these are the guys with the spine shields.
Daisy, one is going to make attacks against you.
It is gonna make two claw attacks.
That is a 22 to hit.
That is gonna be 10 points of piercing damage
as its pincer grabs you.
Then it is going to use its second attack.
That is only a eight to hit, however.
So the first one snaps shut
and you manage to move out of the way.
That is that one's turn.
The one that is now on the deck of the ship
is gonna go against Xanthius and Sojorin.
It is going to claw attack Xanthius.
Xanthius, that is a 21 to hit.
Go ahead, show me why.
I would like...
She likes to use one of Sojorin's abilities.
I would like to use Reinforce.
Okay.
So ally within 20 foot is a target of an attack roll.
Use a reaction to move within five feet
if able to reach the ally.
And they gain plus four AC against the attack
until the start of Sojorin's next turn.
Would that help?
It's not enough.
It puts me to 18.
Can I not use it then?
Yeah, yeah.
You declare it when they have the target of an attack.
Oh, so before that.
If I say like, I'm going to attack Xanthius,
you have to face me.
I should have done it then.
Okay.
I retract.
I say nothing.
That is 10 points of piercing damage.
He watches and laughs.
A 10.
10, please.
And then against Ser Joran is only an eight.
That's a hit.
You can see that he's like locking the tiller in place
and he's beginning to like pull out his weapons
and things like that, getting ready.
That is the two soldiers go.
We then go to...
Buh-buh-buh-buh-buh-buh. Da-da-da-da-da. Mateo! Mateo! Getting ready. That is the two soldiers go. We then go to...
Mateo!
He dies.
He was surprised he doesn't get a turn.
Oh my god, this is turn one.
This is turn one.
Also, Ophelia, it would have been your turn, but you were surprised.
So that is turn one.
Before we skip over that, though, can you just confirm your HP?
Single digits. Half of ten. What? So, did you, you didn't long rest?
Didn't long rest, no. Not even a short rest.
I've not long, we've not long...
Rested since the fight on the beach.
Not even a short rest?
No. Was there a short rest between now and then?
I mean, there was, but like, if you didn't, yeah, like...
I mean, she went boozing.
That's true, you did go boozing.
I did go boozing.
Alright. Damn, okay. Oh, my hubris. She went Boozin'. That's true, you did go Boozin'. I did go Boozin'. All right.
Damn, okay.
Oh, my hubris.
My hubris.
In that case, it is the Brute turn.
This thing is basically considered in melee with a bow
because it's so massive as it pulls itself out of the thing.
It is going to, Xanthes, you're still up, aren't you?
Yes.
Okay, it's gonna use its first claw attack against you.
Yeah, it's weaker claw attack, right?
That's a 14.
Doesn't, does hit.
Does hit.
Okay, oh, okay.
Bardic Inspiration.
Can't add it to AC, I don't think.
You wish you could.
I could try it.
13 points of bludgeoning damage, and you are grappled.
Yaa!
As it has you in its claw.
It then is going to open up its weird crab mouth.
Oh, I'm getting snuffed!
And no, it doesn't snuff you, it sprays a 15 foot cone,
which is gonna hit you, Matteo, Ophelia, Rowan, and Graf.
It's gonna angle it to catch all of you guys.
I see, the entire front of the boat.
As it sprays highly pressurized salt,
which basically works as acid.
So I need all of you.
You automatically fail this.
Zan, Zan, Zan.
Can I have this for you, because I'm re-amping?
You can, let's do that in a second. All right, I'll re-amp. Dexterity saving throws from everybody. If you fail this, Xan Xan Xanthius, because you are a massive man, you can.
Let's do that in a second.
All right, my words.
Dexterity saving throws from everybody.
Do I see this coming?
You do.
Hell yeah.
Is a Hellish Rebuke,
wait, can you Hellish Rebuke as a reaction
if you're surprised?
Did you save for Joran or?
Yes, no, he's gonna actually angle it
so it's kind of catching the corner of Xanthius
and then hitting the rest of you.
Can you use reactions when you're surprised?
I would, yeah, I'd say so.
Well save it, sorry.
If the rule says no, I'm allowing it.
Okay.
I'm allowing it.
You're still stacking for us an entire turn.
Yeah.
I think that's stinky.
What do we get on our deck seven throws?
21. Success.
15.
Success?
15. Success. 15. Success.
Half damage for a success, by the way.
Was I also a fail?
You automatically fail.
Let's be D10s.
I'm right in the way of the stream.
My eyes, it's so salty.
16 points of acid damage, so eight to those who succeeded.
I am on the floor.
Oh, you can't make a little move.
I can't have a trick.
What's the wording?
When does it say, when does it trigger?
Let me have a look, shall I?
I think it triggers right away.
The creature, one reaction which you take
in response to taking damage from a creature
is I have to take damage, so I would have,
it would have been after.
Yes, you would be unconscious, yes.
How's that sound looking?
Oh, um, be unconscious, yes. How's that Xan looking?
Not great. He's looking.
I've been worse.
You've been better.
So Xan is being held in this giant claw.
Ophelia, you drop down, you are now unconscious.
I'm in a net, I'm a net.
You are in a net.
Who's a net?
It's my friend.
That then brings us to Xanthias, but you were surprised.
Yeah, I'm really surprised. This has been a rough six seconds.
Yeah, it has been.
Top of the round!
It's been a rough couple days.
Let's try and rock it through this and then we'll take our break at the end of this round.
Daisy?
OK, I know that there's this thing right in front of me,
but seeing that Xanthias is currently being grappled
by a crab. By a giant head.
I'm gonna try and hit the crab.
The big one? The big boy.
Just to try and see if he can.
Remember, if it's you making a ranged attack
with a creature in melee with you, it's disadvantage.
But I would have advantage from vex,
so it's a straight roll. What is a straight roll?
Giant enemy crab.
Ooh, I rolled an 18.
Plus eight.
So 20 something, yep, yeah, you hit.
Numbers!
Luckily with that advantage,
canceling out the disadvantage,
so you do still get sneak attack.
Yeah, I think I'm within five feet of this guy.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Technically, Surjoran is as well. Technically, Surjoran was within five feet of it as well. Yeah, I'm like making out with this guy. Yeah. Yeah. Technically, Sojoran is as well.
Technically, Sojoran was in five feet of it as well.
Yeah, I'm like making out with this dude.
20, again.
20 more points of damage.
Ow.
It is hurt, but not down.
It is definitely bloody.
You can see this kind of thick, gelatinous blue blood
leaking out from these cracked pieces of carapace.
Oh my.
Yeah.
She thinking.
No, I'm gonna do another one.
Bonus action.
Yeah, yeah.
13 plus eight.
Hits.
45.
Nine.
Another nine points of damage.
You can see this thing is looking wounded.
Badly beaten up, but still standing.
Anything else on your turn, Daisy?
No, I'm...
No, if I move, then it will...
Yeah, this thing is, yeah.
Nope, I'm gonna stay.
All right, Gruffydd, and then Ser Joran afterwards.
Kim has just picked up a lot of dice.
Five.
She's going to annihilate the rest of them.
I hope so.
No. Five.
Can I have another D8, please?
Yes.
I will heal Ophelia, cure wounds, level three.
Perfect.
Get your 10-page D for your armor.
Sorry, how much dice is level three?
Yeah.
Six D8. Whoa! He's a page P for your armor. How much does his level three? Yeah, a lot. 68.
Whoa!
He's a great bro.
New rocket game dude.
That's great.
Seven, seven.
And it kinda needed it.
It did, really did need it.
It did, it did.
20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26.
I think you're all at healing, you would've done anyway.
27, 28, 29, 30 points.
Oh my god.
30 HE.
That's rockery.
30 points.
He's a hero. I was playing hard. Thank you very much. Level three spell slots. 30 points. Nothing my god. 30 page B. I never agreed. 30 points, indeed.
I was playing hard.
Thank you very much.
Level three spell slots.
30 points.
Nothing to sniff at.
That is your action gruff.
Bonus action.
And you get your 10 page B.
I, yeah, I will...
30 for a level three.
Yeah, did you just compute that?
Yeah, no, I was just piecing together this.
Do you wanna know what level four is?
No, I don't.
8 to 8.
I'm gonna tell you anyway.
It's 8.
And we went 2 for 20 with me as a cleric?
With those heals?
What heals?
Fuck, dude.
You didn't heal us a lot.
Because the healing was trash!
I...
It's so bad!
I'm going to roar at the boys, the crablings...
The little lads.
...coming up.
Do you get both of them?
All creatures within 10 feet, right?
10 feet.
Yes, I'm gonna say that is gonna affect the little lads.
And it feels like there's a lot of emotion in that row.
He needed that.
Wisdom saving threats?
Yes.
One fails.
One succeeds with a 19.
Okay, he scared me.
But one, I will say is the one furthest away from me,
so the closest to the proudest ship.
Yes, Cullen.
Can I sacrifice my movement to pick a failure up?
Is that a thing?
Am I allowed to do that?
Can I do it?
I will let you as bonus action,
if you, sorry, as a devil's bargain.
Fuck it, yellow swag, let's give him some dice.
Thank you.
That's a swap for dice. So yeah, you, I would say you can use your boat.
Rather than you doing any movements, you just lean down and,
whoop, pick her up, basically.
He's in a net, so it's easy.
Cos Cure... You are still in a net, though, yeah.
Oh, at least she's up. Cos Cure Wounds is...
What a catch.
...not a concentration style,
so that means I'm still concentrating on calling him.
Yes, correct.
OK, so Joran...
Yes, so Joran's turn.
I would like him to,
I can't quite see the end of the boat.
There is a crab man right in front of him,
there's a crab soldier.
He is also technically within melee range
of the big brute as well.
Who's down off the side of the ship at the moment.
So you've got to imagine that the ship
is like more level with the ocean floor,
and this thing is so massive,
it's basically within five feet. Hey, Joran imagine that the ship is more level with the ocean floor, and this thing is so massive, it's basically within five feet.
I join in, isn't it?
Yes, because he's kind of at the back.
I suppose I've put him more on the other side.
He's more close to the one that's next to Mateo.
Yeah, in that case, he can't hit the print there.
Big boy's grappling Xan.
Yeah, he can't hit that guy.
We're going to harpoon.
The soldier.
17 plus six, the thing that's grappling Zan.
No, so that's what I was going to say.
He can just take a 5 foot step to the side and then he can be in range.
I'll take a 5 foot step to the side and then make an attack.
Harpoon.
17 plus 6, it hits...
5...
7 points of damage.
He's in there.
He's in there.
He's in there.
He's in there.
He's in there.
He's in there. He's in there. He's in there. He's in there. He's points damage. And I would like to use my Free Booter Mark.
OK.
On... Is this soldier looking gross?
Like he's looking bloody...
No, the big guy?
Or the soldier, the one with the shield?
The big guy.
The big guy looks really badly hurt.
Like the brute has been wounded by Daisy's cracked arm
several times.
The soldier?
Right in front of him, next to Mateo.
Yeah, you could do it on them.
He's not injured, I don't think, yet.
No, almost nobody else is.
I will put the Free Booter Mark on him.
Okay.
I have to choose now.
And I will choose Ophelia.
Okay.
So what this does is, Ophelia, for the next minute,
any attacks against that soldier on the boat,
you deal an extra four damage with each attack.
As like, Ser Joran is basically like,
calling out like, Ophelia, hit him now!
It's like distracting him and basically,
is keeping him marked, so he's kinda keeping
his attention on Ser Joran, whilst you can go in there
and strike at the flanks and things like that.
Very nice. So the soldier, yeah.
Yes, the soldier on the ship,
the one with the spine shield.
I think that's all for me.
Alrighty, we then go down to Rowan.
I think Rowan is going to look at Mateo and Ophelia both in a net.
Using that to make a decision.
Sorry Mateo, and is going to try and pry Ophelia free.
Okay, so it's an action to make, and it's an athletics check. and is gonna try and pry Ophelia free to her knees.
Okay, so it's an action to make,
and it's an athletics check.
He's dead and he's crying.
Oh my T.
He's fine, he's so fine.
He's so not, he's crying.
That's a 12 plus two, 14.
It's just barely enough,
so you kind of get your hands in there,
and like avoiding these spikes,
you manage to rip the net and break,
you are no longer restrained by the net.
But hell yeah.
She's free.
Ophelia, keel.
Keel!
Keel, huh?
You need keel.
All right, so that's your action, Rowan.
Any bonus actions, any movement?
I've already, I'm gonna move behind.
Hmm.
There's nowhere to really move.
You've got a little tiny spot up the boat,
next to the moon.
Is it slightly closer to this soldier versus Mateo?
Or is it kind of inconsequential?
So I'll just stay near Mateo.
Okay, all right.
Consequential.
Nothing else?
That's it.
Or why do you, it is the crablings and the soldiers.
Grab.
So I'm gonna be very annoying
and have one jump up onto the ship.
And then can you, Thomas, this one,
can you pop him next to Rowan
and jump up on there as well?
It's the crowded ship.
Nice.
It's going down.
We're packed in like sardines, we are.
It's not gonna come out, buddy.
Oh no, not two on me.
I'm gonna have to.
Two on me.
They're gonna scoot round.
The Crablings, they've used their nets,
they just have their tridents.
Daisy, two attacks against you with a trident.
First one is a 10.
Second one is a 13.
Nope.
All right.
Ophelia, the one that's jumped up on the ship,
is gonna go for you.
That is a 17.
Yah!
I'll just do the second attack.
Second attack is a 10, so it's not gonna hit.
That is gonna be five points of piercing damage.
Okey-dokey, hellish rebuke.
On that one.
Reaction please.
Okay, dexterity.
Let's save, please.
That is a 17.
Succeed, so twoD10 fire damage halved.
Are you?
Where am I D10-ed?
Is it 2D10?
At what level is it?
Level. First level?
It's level one, yeah.
Okay, yeah, it's 2D10.
It blew. Baby bullet.
11 halved, six, five.
Five, that's round down.
All right, we will say that they are A,
five points of fire damage to them,
as the flames lash out as it strikes you.
The one that's just jumped up next to you, Rowan,
that's gonna go for you, that's a 10 to hit.
No.
A 19 to hit.
Yes.
Five points of piercing damage.
No.
No.
The other one is two, is sort of moved
a little bit away from the ship,
is next to the big crab buddy,
so he's not gonna do anything this turn.
He's just gonna hold his action.
The soldier's daisy, this one's going for you, unfortunately.
With its crab hand, that is a 14.
Nope.
Second attack, yep's only a nine.
Missed miss, yeah, lucky.
You're like just matrixing it down the back.
Can't go in the bank.
Xanthius has been taken care of,
so Sojourn is gonna get this soldier
who is being marked by him as well.
He's gonna fight him.
That is an 18.
Exactly.
Oh, sorry, 17 actually.
In does not hit.
Does not hit.
Sojourn pulls up his big rounded pauldron to block the way. The second attack, sorry, 17 actually. And does not hit. Does not hit. So Joran pulls up his big, rounded pauldron
to block the way.
The second attack is a natural 20 though.
Oh no.
Is he wearing a helmet?
Who, so Joran?
No, he has a kind of big, rounded, diversuit style armor,
but it's just the collar.
It's quite high up in his neck, but he keeps his head free.
Maybe he has a salad helm so it doesn't block his face.
But sorry, you've distracted me from damage.
I get onto your game.
Zero damage.
15, 20 points of damage to Sajoran, unfortunately.
He gets like jabbed by a big claw.
But that is the crablings and the soldiers turn.
We go to Ophelia.
Ophelia is going to Rage bonus action.
And then, yeah, she's gonna go and attack this soldier
that has been marked by some kind of...
How are you going to reach him?
Let's see.
Ophelia has reached him with her whip.
With a whip she could attack him, yeah.
Can I spider climb round the side of the boat,
up onto that railing, and and then jump off the railing
and with my big brain?
Yes, you will provoke at least one attack,
no, two attacks of opportunity.
One from the big brute, one from the little crabling,
and then two from the crabrablings next to you.
What if my Devil's Bargain would make any difference?
Not against opportunity attacks,
they are a fairly set rule of the game.
Then it is a worthy trade,
DM and I shall carry on regardless.
Oh no.
Right, right, well let's have the Crablings
tax opportunity first, each one with a Trident attack.
The first one, an eight.
Misses. Second one, an eight. Misses.
Second one, a seven.
Misses!
The Brute, with its, okay,
only has one Claw free at the moment,
the other one's holding Xanthias.
That is an 18.
Yeah.
You take...
I am raging, so I am resistant.
You're gonna half this.
She's just attacking three opportunities.
16 bludgeoning, so half to eight.
Okay, yeah.
But you are grappled by the Grifritch.
Oh!
Oh!
Grappled!
Yeah, so I will say that you do.
Let me at him, let me at him!
Yeah, so as you sort of jump off
and run along the side of the ship on the right side.
Fuck.
Just as you get to the banister ready to jump up,
you feel yourself snatched out of the air.
Ah, Misty Step would be my friend.
But alas.
But alas, too many bonus actions,
not enough time. Too many bonus actions,
not enough time.
So yeah, you are grabbed and this thing is now
holding Xanthius and Ophelia midair.
Does that mean he can't attack currently?
You cannot get him while he's holding me.
You are grappled, so you can still attack, yeah.
So yeah, you are just grappled. Does that mean he can't attack at the moment, because he's got...
Oh, he can attack the two people he's grabbing.
But he can't attack anyone else.
All right, I'm just going to take my abilities,
because I've got a thing that might help.
He just gets to now crush them.
He doesn't make attack rolls against them.
He just deals damage.
OK.
Cool.
Cool, love that.
Love that. 11, 17.
Against the soldier.
Yeah.
Is going to be just barely hit,
so I'm gonna use his reaction, Rhianna,
before you roll any damage,
to use his Toxin Spine Shield.
To increase his AC by two.
If this causes an attack to miss,
I get to make a shield bash attack against you.
Oh my god.
So 23.
Just throw me in the ocean.
No.
Okay.
Six points of piercing damage.
And I need, you are resistance, so only three.
I need you to make a con save,
or are you immune to poison?
I am not immune to poison.
I'm not.
Constitution saving throw, please.
As his shield slams into you.
14.
Is a failure by one, I'm afraid.
On a failed saving throw, you are poisoned for one minute.
You can repeat this saving throw at the end of your turn.
Okay.
Do you have, poison means you have disadvantage
on attack, rolls, and ability checks.
Okay.
It is the end of, that is the end of your turn.
Oh no, you have a second attack.
I have a second attack?
Yes.
There is hope.
16.
Misses, I'm afraid.
End of turn?
Yeah.
Two constitution saving throw, please.
Oh my God.
17.
You succeed, you burn off the poison
before it can do too much damage to your system.
I'm too angry.
You're too angry.
That was Ophelia's turn.
We then go to Mateo.
Yeah!
At the start of his turn,
he unfortunately takes damage for being in the net.
He takes six points of damage.
Mateo looks real bad.
I don't mean to alarm anyone,
but I can suddenly use a bit of help.
As a bonus action, he is going to...
Who's closest to this thing?
He will say to the, well to anything really.
You know, to Rowan, he's like,
Rowan, my good friend, I really believe in you,
and I think you should save me next.
As he bardic inspirations you.
Thank you, Mateo.
That really means a lot, actually.
And then he's gonna use his action
to try and get out of this net.
And in fact, he will say,
you know, this reminds me of the time,
actually it was really funny, I was in the circus,
and they put me in an act where I was in the net,
and I had to escape.
Really?
That's an extra bonus.
He fails.
Ah.
Ah.
What is a?
He's like fumbled his dagger, he's like, no!
Scalebane!
Like, no!
He's trying to get it to like cut the rope.
What is his Bardic Inspiration dice?
D6.
So I need a D6, unfortunately, for little Matteo.
But that is his full turn.
Then it is the Brute turn.
Xentheus and Ophelia, you both just,
in fact it does make an attack,
but it's not automatic damage.
I was lying.
Oh, does it Salt Spray Recharge?
No. Roll a d6.
No. Yes.
Close, but no.
Against Ophelia, with advantage.
Still, it's only a eight, even with advantage.
Yeah, miss.
So you managed to get your blades
and stop it from crushing you.
You're holding with your strength,
holding its claws apart.
Xanthius.
That is a 21.
Unshieldable 21.
Unshieldable.
Xanthius has not had a good time.
Oh, luckily very low damage though.
Only eight bludgeoning damage.
Yep. Yep, yep, yep. Big crush. Yeah. Very low damage though, only eight bludgeoning damage. Ah!
Yep, yep, yep, yep.
Big crush.
Yeah.
Ah.
That's not good.
With that, we then go to Xanthias.
Yes!
Ha ha!
It's turn.
Oh, I've been holding this in the entire time.
And every time you've been saying,
up next it's someone else!
It's a big combat, dude.
Right!
I'm casting Confusion on Ophelia's face.
Everything within 10 feet of that
has to make a saving throw.
I'm casting Careful Spell,
which means casting it with Careful Spell.
Four creatures, I've added it up.
Ophelia, Joran, me, and Daisy,
who are in that radius, auto-succeed it.
Okay.
What's the radius?
10 feet.
If it's on Ophelia's face.
It's gonna hit Mateo.
Would it though?
If it was circle radius.
I believe so, yeah.
Get the circles out, motherfucker.
Get those circles.
Do you want me to get the circles?
Yeah, am I getting the circles?
Get the circles.
Bring out the circles!
It happened so much.
Now the reason I say that is
because he's on like the diagonal,
so I think he would be cut off
by the concave shape of a circle.
Oh, when have I ever counted diagonals, my guy?
Well, right now.
Right now we're ready to start.
Is that 10 feet?
No.
No, okay.
That was a big step.
10 foot radius is this one where my thumbnail currently is.
So.
Yeah, he's right on the edge, guys.
He's missing. But it's touching him. No, it's not. Is outskirts. But it's touching him.
No, it's not.
Is it not?
No.
It's touching the guy underneath him.
Okay, alright.
In that case, yeah, sure.
So it would...
So who doesn't it hit, bad guy-wise?
I don't think it hits this guy.
No, agreed.
It hits the soldier, it hits the brute, it doesn't hit this guy.
Doesn't hit that guy.
So it's the soldier on the deck, the little crambling here,
the brute and this soldier back here.
Yeah, so two, yeah a couple people.
Oh, we got the disc out, fine!
Worth it.
So careful spell means they automatically succeed.
They auto succeed, only four people.
Let's do this in order then.
I will do the brute confusion.
Wisdom saving throw, I'm assuming?
Wisdom saving throw against a 15.
Yeah, 15.
Okay, you're not innate sorcery-ing, are you?
Fuck!
I was meant to do that!
I had my whole turn!
What a shame.
The brute fails.
The brute is confused.
Yes, good.
The soldier on the deck.
Soldier wisdom saving through.
Fails.
The soldier next to Daisy.
Fails.
The crabling on the deck next to Xanthius.
Fails.
Oh!
Or fail their confusion roll.
The way this works is they cannot take bonus actions
or reactions and at the start of their turn,
roll a D10 to determine what they are going to do.
Alrighty, let's keep that in mind.
That's cool.
Now, please help me keep track of what's affected.
Yes.
One's holding me.
And you're Andophilia.
Yeah, one of the results is they move.
Great, I love it.
Anyway. We've lost like it. Anyway.
We've lost them to the sea.
Because I've spent sorcery points
and a fourth level spell, I gain five runes.
Whoa.
It's glowing as dim as a candle.
He's been waiting for this for so long.
Fuck you, dude.
The rules, dude.
And as a bonus action, I should have done my other thing.
All right, with that, end of turn?
End of turn.
All righty, with that case, we are going to take our break there.
When we come back, we will continue this battle.
We will see you all in five minutes for part two.
Take care, bye-bye.
See you up here!
Bye now.
