After battling against Zarkira's simulacrum and her strange creations in the city of Gusthaven,
Quill was taken captive by a retriever and brought to Zarkira's personal ship,
the Serpent's Coil in Astral Space.
Stripped of his magical items and restrained by dimensional shackles,
Quill has found himself unable to escape. On Erois, the rest of the party try to come up
with a plan to rescue Quill, poring over spells and allies they have available to them to try and
find a way to contact him or find his location. Nova checks the information she gathered from their journey into the Astral
Sea before and learns of the Serpent's Coil, but not its location. Hoping for divine guidance,
they travel to the Cathedral of Gusthaven and speak with the Priestess who resurrected Quill
previously, hoping she can commune with Hesper and gain some information. To the shock of the party,
Hesper and gain some information. To the shock of the party, Hesper himself appears before them,
revealing his fears of Zakhira obtaining the power of Quill's foresight or the Spear of Oracles he carries. He transports them all to the Halls of Infinite Resplendence, an extra-dimensional space
of consecrated divine energy. Here, Hesper sends out millions of copies of himself to track down
the serpent's coil and quill, with the party having to assist him in controlling the vast
amounts of magical power required. The effort succeeds, but with a great cost, as all the divine
power given to him by the true goddess Siaska is spent, Hesper fades
from the world, leaving behind a magical grimoire capable of transporting individuals to other
planes through the barrier that protects Orois.
With Hesper's final gift, the party infiltrate the Serpent's Coil and locate Quill, though
not before Quill is interrogated by a mind Flayer who learns of Quill's secrets and memories,
including his vision of Calus Valkyrian's failed plan to defeat Hadar.
The Mind Flayer leaves Quill to report to Zarkira, and the party use this as a chance to free him.
So, as things currently stand, Sentry is currently positioned, holding up this automatic kind of astral ship door, keeping it held up so that Lucius and Aayla could rush in to try and free Quill. You have also been contacted mentally by a figure calling themselves Arana VL,
who appears to be a celestial woman, an angel, who is being kept prisoner here.
Quill has not seen you and doesn't seem to believe that the voices belong to his true companions.
Meanwhile, Nova is dealing with a guard who has become suspicious and has seen quill escaping his bonds as we have three who are invisible uh
this god does not seem to be aware that there are invisible creatures here i'm going to give you
guys literally a round nova uh century and ayla uh sorry, Nova, Sentry, Lucius and Aayla.
You guys have like a round to do something.
Quill, I'm assuming that you are basically just running for the open door.
That's kind of going to be what you're attempting to do.

So it doesn't really matter what order uh so you guys have

um my six seconds will probably involve
saying to quill whilst running get out of the door now we're here here. That's what I'm saying.

casting a spell will bring you out the invisibility so the others remain invisible as long as you're
concentrating however you suddenly appear in this guard's way as black lightning or energy kind of
erupts from tiangong your sword striking into the guard they're covered in like black full plate
armor with like these full blacks full black, you know,
very Stormtrooper-esque arms,
carrying this, like, bladed staff that looks like it has some sort of, uh,
kind of, like, magitek element to it.
They are struck by these energy,
and you hear, like, this kind of, like...
...
...
...like, scream of pain coming from the individual,
but they do not go down.
Um, they seem to erupt in pain, but they do not go down.

not anything else.
At this point, then,
just put a note,

At this point, that is going to be a full-on
roll initiative at this point.
As this guy screams out, Nova becomes visible.

appear kind of looks startled and like presses herself up against the glass it's kind of like
shocks her a little bit and sends her back you can see she's still injured from this kind of
effects that she she caused some sort of energy to disperse through her cell as a distraction
um she's like looking around but there's
just no way that she can currently help as she's
currently incarcerated but she is in the
initiative if you do manage to free her.
Ayla, you see Nova
appear and you see this guard still standing.

I'm going to move Quill a little bit out

So there's like a set of bears going
up there is a kind of one of these you know ship doors that kind of closes and opens when somebody
comes close to it it's magic magitex sci-fi fantasy bullshit um they left that way about
six to twelve seconds ago so well ayla wouldn't know anything about it. It was more like if there was someone else in the room.
If she saw another thing, yeah.
So she will, first of all, going past Quill, say,
We need your stuff. We can't go without that staff.
And then she will fly past.

60 feet, so you've got about 5 so i managed to get up to this dude then
five thirty he doesn't know i'm here he doesn't know i'm here so i will rage and smack you in the
face yeah advantage on the first attack you make and then you'll become you'll become visible again
um okay oh poor god and your five initiative. I don't think you're going to make it.
Even though you're an elite guard of the Valkyrian Empire
and you're probably still going to die.

rana's cell so currently ayla is kind of blocking can i eldritch blast or does that
yep eldritch blast you can he'll get a little bit of cover um being behind ayla but not too much
okay so first beam is 25 to hit. That does hit.

doesn't look to be in a good shape uh quill unless there's anything else nova on your turn you've
still got a bit of movement left you got your bonus action nope okay uh quill you see ayla and nova
appear in front of you and are fighting this yeah um so i'm wondering my
limitations here so i don't have any of my gear no spear and these shackles symbol yeah can i fly
with the shackles you can clumsily i'd say you probably can't go particularly far you're probably
like 30 feet speed can't go particularly you know fast're probably like 30 feet speed, can't go particularly
fast or high.
You can just about keep yourself
or you can just walk. They're not
on your legs, they're on your arms.
You can gesture with your hands.
You could probably attack
with a weapon, but it'd be at disadvantage.
But anything more complicated,
imagine that your arms are
bound in front of you.

but a pair of Durgar are kind of scooby-dooing around the corner,
kind of like looking around like, what the fuck is going on?
They don't look like they're coming to engage.
They're wearing like overalls and they have tool belts,
but they're kind of perplexed at what's happening.
You do, however, then see something emerging from the door to the north as a very
confused looking mind flayer
comes running
in like he's running at full sprint
and kind of scans the room
sees Quill sees
just the edge of Nova around the
corner like this kind of flapping coat
and just seems
to be alarmed that is their full turn
however is uh running into this room and then seeing what's happening lucius do i hear that
i assume i'm right next to quill and century about the mind controlling yeah you have you
absolutely heard that yeah i'm gonna fly past century because i kind of know where she was
right or yeah yeah you know where century roughly, right? Yeah, you know where Sentry roughly is.
No, no, no, you know where Sentry is.
You've got the
bracelets.
You've got the rings.
Yes. Messenger rings.
So you can just be like,
I'm in the middle. Go around.
I'm gonna do a quick...

Not to kind of use this terminology in a bad way,
but it's a Mind Flayer.
They look identical to any other Mind Flayer you've seen.
Like, they don't seem to have, like,
different shaped craniums or features.
They all look identical to you.
Sorry, for some reason I couldn't see it on my roll.
But does he look as overwhelmed
as the one that Quill, because the guy
that Quill obviously
had questioning him was like,
ugh, mind blown!
I'm so confused!
This one, I mean, yeah, he kind of wandered
out. This one has run in
some sort of panic,
you see. Like, there is
definitely an element of surprise to their face, is panic you see. Like, there is definitely an element of surprise
to their face, is what you read.
I'm gonna
translate that to common
and that's gonna be...
That's the one. So, what I'm gonna try and do,
I know this is bad for mind flayers,
I'm gonna try and do i know this is bad for mind flayers i'm gonna try a dominate monster wisdom saving throw of 18 oh he is that's interesting
huh
you must be wisdom 18 yes i rolled pretty bad uh and this is dominate monster you're casting yes
this is an eighth level spell lucius you feel you kind of reach out with your with your magic i
guess and i guess how does this work with the the you know the uh you know the dichromantia or like
the you know the colored magic is this like street ribbons of like blue and orange like go into its
mind and kind of take control that way it's because its eyes change color to match yours
or something like how's this look yes that's that exactly that is a combination of the acid
and cold spiraling as like an energetic beam
that goes into their eyes.
And then you watch
the previously kind of lessened
eyes. Yeah, they turn blue and orange
like Lucius's. You have
full mental control over this creature.
I have a telepathic link.
As long as we're on the same plane.
And failed.
Who mind controls a mind flayer?

This guy.
I can use this telepathic link.
I would have assumed
I genuinely thought they were immune to being
charmed. They're not, so they can be
mind controlled. Oh my god.

Now that I have a telepathic
link with it, this is going to be a bit more
your discretion Mark

I don't believe so I believe that with dominate person
you can basically give it
mental commands
you could tell it like tell me what
you're thinking or tell
me what you were going to do
you attempt to beguile a creature it must succeed in a wisdom saving throw while the creature is charmed you have a telepathic link
with it as long as the two of you are on the same plane of existence you can use this telepathic
link to issue commands to the creature while you are conscious no action required which it does
its best to obey you can specify a simple and general course of action such as attack that
creature run over there bring that object if the creature
completes the order and doesn't receive further direction from you it just defends itself as best
as it can you can use your action to take total and precise control of the target until the end
of your next turn um the creature takes only the actions you choose and doesn't do anything that
you don't allow it to do during this time you can also cause a creature to use a reaction so basically you can as a free action be like stand there don't do anything or uh tell me
something you know whatever like that but if you want it to do something very precise or specific
you have to spend an action to do it right so as i casted it this round what i'm going to get it to do is say are you the one that interrogated Quill?

You hear the doors at the far end of the cell open
and something steps through.
A tall, grey gray skinned creature
with four arms uh quill you've seen this thing before it was what kind of dragged you here
uh and it was what was kind of wandering around and guarding the cell this thing kind of
is great big lumbering arms is looking around uh nova you probably see the two two dergar kind of scamper
backwards when they see this thing coming um and it does definitely seem to register that something
is is happening here um it will probably spend that was most of its turn was moving up hearing
the thing and then coming through the doors uh from the previous chamber so i think
that that is going to be its go uh century um the only thing i'm going to say kim are you going to
take control of her battle she would probably let the door drop now um because everybody is out so
she that's like a no action she just lets the door drop okay um. She's still flying, right?
She's flying and invisible.
Wait. None of you
are flying.
Dominate monster is a concentration
spell and Lucius was the one
that cast fly. Correct.
So you're not high enough
that you fall or anything like that, but you
are on the ground now.
She is still invisible though.

And she is sentry, so any
movement is going to be very obvious
where she is.

I think what I want to do
is attack the guard that Aether is
attacking, but also
protect Quill. No, I'm gonna
have her stay next to
Quill because I think that would be her
priority. In which
case I would like to, and I'm
a bit unsure so I may not have the
action bonus action right
but two things I would like to do is
cast Shield of Faith on Quill
but also Lay on Hands heal him.
Yeah, because Lay on hands isn't
lay on hands isn't a spell so bonus action spell lay on hands action yes you can do both
uh so i'll do that and i will heal him for 50 points um of health um okay and then plus two ac
from shield of faith i can't her, but if you could position her
so that she's between Quill
and the big thing that's coming down the corridor.
Okay, tactically, it's better for her to be next to Lucius and Quill
because then she can benefit both of them with protection and stuff.
So I'd put her next to both of them.
Where she is now, I think.
Because I think that's tactically the smart thing that she would do.

doors opening and stuff just like that.

it. The Mind Flayer doesn't react
because it's currently doing what it was told.
And so instead, it charges up.
You see kind of like this charge go into the glaive that it's wielding.
The tip begins to glow.
It's going to cast a spell on itself,
and then it is going to attempt to attack Aayla
so that it can get away, basically.
Attack against Aayla.
That's a natural one.
That's a miss.
Second attack.
That is a 19 to hit Aayla.
Oh, just, yeah.
Just hits, okay.
That'll be it.
This is going to be...
So this is magical damage,
so not resistible, I'm afraid.
That's going to be 13 magical
slashing damage but then you take a bunch of radiant damage as as this weapon strikes you
ayla uh it like bursts with bright light um blind pretending to blind you and deal radiant damage
so yeah 13 magical slashing damage and then uh 20 radiant damage and i need you to
make a constitution saving throw please so that is a 12 plus nine so that is what you you kind of
your eyes sting for a second
as this bright light attempts to like burn your eyes out almost,
but you blink it away, your eyes soar in red,
but this thing does not take effect.
You do take the damage, so yeah, a bunch of damage there.
But he kind of grunts, thinking that,
ah, that should have had a greater effect on you.
And then will probably use his third and final attack
because he was hoping he could blind you so he could run away.
That's only an 18.
No, that wouldn't hit.
That doesn't hit.
So you kind of parry the first strike, the second one catches you,
and the light bursts in your face, and then he goes to strike you again,
but again, you can easily block it because you're not actually blinded by the effect
of this
stunning, this glaive, this bright
shining magitek weapon.
That is his go.
We go back to
you. In fact, you see
the celestial woman. She speaks
in your mind. There should be
a release on the side of this
place. I can help you.

This blow knocks him into the side of the wall on his left.
He just kind of crumples against it,
and then you bring the second strike down.

Bang on exactly his hit points.
You watch as this guard crumples to the floor. Just this rage
of blows and being unable to kind of defend
himself. This elite guard
is just dropped.
His body just collapses into
the ground as you do so.
Can I
hit the release
on the wall as a bonus action?
Sure, yeah. I'd say this
guy's dead. You knock him over and
dead. Yeah, if you step up and
then there is this kind of series
I think for thematic purposes
there's this panel and it's all crystals
and knobs and switches
and Aayla just punches it.
You just get like a
and then the wall of force
drops. And yeah,
you see this celestial this celestial woman no wings
they've been kind of surgically removed um this metal plate over her eyes she kind of stumbles
because she was leaning on on the thing um and you kind of she catches your shoulder ayla almost
like steady herself um thank you thank you a weapon i should if you can get me a weapon i i can try and help fight and she's like
like reaching out to like grab something um you do see the guards glaive uh there if you wanted to
pass that to her or if you've got a weapon you could give to her yeah fuck it she can take the
glaive just get her to take the glaive okay so you kind of like pass that up to her and yeah she
kind of takes that in her hands um you can see, like, I think that she...
It's not her turn, but yeah, she seems to be aware of you and Nova,
but walls and objects she's blind to.
She can't see where, like, the walls and objects are,
but she seems to know exactly where you and Nova are.
Like, she reached out and purposely grabbed you to steady herself.
But yeah.
Please help us.
We need to get out of here
before
ideally the rest of the ship
knows that we're here.
I'm afraid that I've been a prisoner here.
I don't know if I can help you find
your way out, but I can certainly fight.
Especially if Zarkira sends
any of her fiends or monstrosities
at us there's one nearby i i can sense it um it's just entered and she points in the direction of
the south of the cells where you heard this like large creature enter from um uh any movement left
ayla you still got like 30 odd feet of movement if you wanted to go anywhere uh i think i'll probably just get into
the middle again so that i'm ready to go for whatever comes next yeah you look down and you
see this like giant you know large nine foot tall four-armed gray-skinned beast kind of lumbering in Nova.
Can I check the guard
for any, like,
keystones or, like, you know, kind of security
things? Yeah, I think it would
be reasonable that this guard would carry
a keystone. You don't
recognise the number or anything on it, but he
does have a keystone, similar to the ones you've
encountered before.
Okay, would that be
an action bonus action?
Bonus action, I'd say.

You know what you're looking for. The guy
doesn't really have pockets, so it's probably hanging
on a chain around his neck
or something like that full plate armor same problem as a lot of ladies no pockets
yes it's a problem you have to have bum bags really um
uh can i just say are you okay do you need healing or is there anyone else here that we need to get out are you talking to
Rana the angel

there's another creature
to the south of here
but I've never spoken to them
they won't respond to my telepathy
I don't know if they'd be an ally
but they are imprisoned here
there's also two of
there are two dergar nearby engineers
i think um okay uh i'm gonna be a bit of a useless sausage this round and i'm gonna use my
action to dash so i've moved 5 10 15 20 25 30 35 40 45 50 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50.
You dash down, you can see more kind of cells on either side.
You're not sure which one.

So when you kind of rush down and you catch a glimpse of like a figure
and you turn and look in the thing,
looking through the wall of force on the front of the prison cell,
it's a very odd sight.
You see Sat cross-legged hovering doesn't not flying but sort of hovering uh is a
kobold with purple skin with his eyes closed and his hands kind of like in a meditative state
and around him is swirling kind of purple magic um and the little, he's just sort of like floating there,
just like...
Is he like a tiny Yoda?
Like a little purple Yoda meets Doctor Strange, yes.

His eye is open and when they do, they are like
storms of stars
and magic. Like his eyes,
there's no pupils or anything left.
They're just like these vortexes, but then they seem
to condense down into purple irises.
He kind of blinks.

you kind of uh press it and the the wall of force goes down ah excellent i am no longer bound by

Zarkira will not be pleased that you have

gone through the ship not in stealth yeah so Yeah, there's a lot of ship.
