Last time, our Stormchaser crew, the party, have made their way on the Sky City of Horizon
to the continent of Gisela, the northernmost peninsula above the City of Glass,
where they hope to be reunited with Herald and reunite the Guardian
race with Sentry. However, things are not going to be easy as it seems the City of Glass is under
siege. Fleets of airships as well as ground troops for the Sansian Commonwealth working with Calus
Valkyrian have begun an assault. The party decided to head down to the ground forces and to aid them in
defending and repelling these forces, as well as seeking out Harold and saving her from whatever
situation Harold has found themselves in. To do so, they took a skiff from the Sky City of Horizon
and attempted to sail down into the City of Glass. However, things were not as easy as it appeared.
Under a barrage of artillery fire, strong winds, and all sorts of other difficulties
in navigation, the party have been blown off course. Instead, Lucius, Nova, and Aayla found
themselves crash landing in the City of Glass, while Sentry and Quill were knocked far out
to sea. With an airship discovering Sentry's position and giving chase,
the party have now vaguely reunited on the walls of the City of Glass
and on the coastal shore of Jusela's Peninsula,
as this airship moves in to attack Sentry,
who is currently stood on the coast, separated from the rest of her companions.
And that is where
we're going to begin this week uh to set the scene we have the tall uh sort of you know nearly
probably a good sort of 80 feet high walls of the city of glass all built around the outskirts of
the city still covered in this uh transmuted in fact to this uh thick crystalline
glass nova lucius and ayla have just reached the top of the walls and are now looking out onto a
kind of open flat section of land that turns into a ragged rocky coast sentry is around 200 ish feet
away from you um standing on the shores,
looking up as an enormous,
a gargantuan airship
is barreling towards her.
Weapons at the ready,
loaded with soldiers.
You can see that this is not an airship
like the Storm Chaser.
This is a warship.
It's larger.
It has more soldiers on board,
manning weapons,
and it is making its way towards Sentry.
Quill, who was was separated has flown and is
rushing up from the south of the the coastal area um and is at a great distance as well so about 200
feet away so i feel like at the very very very end of the last episode didn't i land basically right behind Sentry Shield? Well, maybe.
Okay.
If that's what you remember.
I thought I remembered describing you about to arrive,
but not actually arriving.
If I've misremembered that, then that's fine.
I might have said that something really cool happened and I got ahead of myself.
In which case, that's what's going to happen next time on my turn.
I'm going to do something really cool. Sure.
Okay. That was the eye of the storm speaking.

Alright.
Well, people are saying that you did arrive, so
there you go.
You are now stood behind Sentry
as Quill and Sentry are
together again. Look,
my memory is shot.
So if other people say they remember it, then that's fine.
I was in a very big rush planning a very complicated combat encounter.
So forgive me.
Who will win?
Five level 15 player characters, one airship, one floaty boy.
Well, it's one floaty boy plus,
and judging by the size of the warship and the number of people
you can see moving on deck, there's probably more below
as well, around about
40 enemy soldiers
all armed with Valkyrian
weapons
on the actual airship
itself. This is not just a fight against the airship.
It is the airship's crew
also involved.
The ragged, rocky shore is very rough.
Most of it falls into kind of short cliffs that Sentry managed to climb up.
Oh, actually, no, you flew over on your periton before it perished.
And yeah, the rest of the space, though, there's not a lot of cover between the coast and the walls.
There are broken remnants of arcane cannons and things like that on the wall, rest of the space though there's not a lot of cover uh between the coast and the walls um there

transmuted to glass and do not look like they are functioning um and that is where we're going to
pick up this week everybody uh with initiative pretty much oh okay okay fancy Oh speedy boy my speedy boy
today see not bad not well I mean I literally rolled in that 20 and a 1
that's good job you have advantage not so Lucius, what have we got for Lucius? We've got a 13 for Lucius.
Virion, Elowen, and Elnest too.

All right.
Just as folks know, by the way, because I get this question a lot,
the map I'm using today for Roll20 I made on Incarnate,
which if you haven't checked out before, it's not sponsored,
but I use Incarnate a lot recently for very cool maps.
Each square, for those of you who can see the map podcast listeners we will try and describe stuff as we go but those of you are watching live or watching on youtube um each
square on the map is about 20 feet um so you're gonna have to kind of factor in a little bit there
of of half movements and stuff like that um as you do. This is a big map. You can see that the airship, the enemy warship,
is a gargantuan creature.
It is massive.
It's about 20 feet wide and maybe about 100 feet long.
Wow.
It's total distance.
I have also calculated it so it should,
the rulers and stuff should be correct.
It does work.
Nice.
Okay, cool.
Around then.
So it's about 140 feet away from me in Sentry then,
at the moment.
Ayla, I mean, you have probably been the first one.
You've run up these steps
and got onto these crystalline battlements
of the City of Glass,
and you can still, there are battles and things going on
somewhere in the city.
You can still hear the bombardments
of the artillery cannons of Horizon
fighting other airships, but you see before you this immediate scene. city you can still hear the the bombardments of the the artillery cannons of horizon fighting
other airships um but you see before you this immediate scene you can see this single airship
has pursued sentry and is about to engage sentry and quill but it is a fair distance away still
um as you reach the top of the walls what would you like to do
she wouldn't know what to do. She can't get there.
How tall up is the wall, did you say?
It's about 80 feet.
The airship is probably about 300 feet up in the air as well.
So I don't know what to do, you guys.
It's kind of a descent angle.
It's really far.
Anything we can take it down with from here?
Like, closer? I don't know what to do.
I can make us fly.
Nova can
dimension door us.

Yeah. Well, Nova, you can speak
because Lucius and that were speaking.
I don't think it's a case of fighting. I think it's a case
of running.

Lucius or Nova
cast something like a
portal or dimension
door, she just goes with them
because at the moment Aayla's just
unsure of the tactic

In that case, the airship, the warship
I'm going to call it, the warship's turn.
So as you can see that the warship
has all these different soldiers on it all rushing around doing different things the warship
can take multiple actions as long as it has lots of crew um so it's going to do a number of things
uh the first thing it's going to do is it is going to fire its arcane cannon um at probably
sentry and quill it will hit both of you. This is like a radius effect.
It's going to fire its ballista.
It has two ballista.
You can see kind of being rotated and mounted around.
And then I think that it will use its third action to command a combat squad to basically fire a fusillade.
They were going to all kind of bring out ranged weapons
and fire their Magitek rifles down towards Sentry or Quill.
We'll see who they're going to attack first.
Okay.
I have to manually roll these
because I couldn't quite do it in custom sheets on D&D Beyond.
So the Arcane Cannon is going to attempt to hit both of you.
This is a slower moving weapon.
It's not as accurate, but we'll see what happens.
Would a protection work in this case?
Yes, you can try and protect
quill from this attack i would like to yes please okay uh well against you century that's going to
be a 20 total doesn't hit what and then oh yeah your ac is like a thousand and then against quill
would be a 15 is the lowest ah damn it yep so the century you try and block as much of it with a
shield but the blast it's like a kind of explosion, you try and block as much of it with a shield, but the blast
is like a kind of explosion around
you. Try and protect Quill as much as you can,
but your own, even for your own
defense, you've only just barely been
missed by this blast bringing your shield up
in time. Quill is going to take
some damage here.
That is going to be some
force damage for Quill.
Uh-oh. Uh-oh.
I don't have a huge amount of hit points either.
29 points of force damage, Quill,
as this explosion kind of erupts around you.
Sentry managing to just kind of deflect it at the last second.
You do also see that two Ballistae
are going to take long-range shots
towards those they can see on the wall,
having seen this blast kind of connect against that.
So Aayla and Nova, these are going to be a Ballista shot at each of you.
18 to hit Aayla.

And then 15 to hit Nova.
Nice. So, you know, firing from long range,
these two large ballista bolts
kind of smash into the walls around you,
causing cascades of glass to fall down,
shattering on the rocky surface below.
And then the last thing they're going to do
is a combat squad,
of which there are five on the ship.
They are going to make a ranged combat squad uh of which there are five on the ship uh they are going to
make a ranged attack uh against uh who they can see which is sentry um they are going to fire their
force rifles in a fusillade so you can see that these combat squads it's like a maybe it's sort
of like eight eight or ten uh all kind of like line up on the side um i'm going to treat them
as one creature so they make one attack roll but they get a bonus uh as long as more of them are alive basically it's going to be a 30 to hit sentry yeah
yeah uh however it's not gonna be it's gonna be uh 14 points of force damage so you and it's like
some of them are missing so like they're rapidly firing these rifles and some of the blasts are missing you but enough of them are hitting you that it causes
damage basically um as you are peppered by this barrage of weaponry uh and then the ship is just
gonna move it's gonna move so it just becomes flying straight towards Sentry and Quill, and yeah, towards the wall as well.
Just move the whole ship on the map.
Oh, crap.
I mean, ships do move.
Yeah, I thought it was a static background image.
This is blowing my mind.
Shocking.
Nova Vija.
I can only take one of you. I'm gonna... invisible! Bye!
Grab Ayla. I'm gonna grab Ayla's hand and cast Dimension Door.
And zip us next to Quill and Sentry.
Okay.
And then, yeah, so zip. Zippity zip um so pop so we see this like tear in space you grab ayla you
pull her through or ayla held a reaction as well so she kind of just steps through i'd like i'd
like the idea that i grab ayla but it just doesn't move she doesn't move it's just like a rock she's
choosing to move uh that that's why ayla goes with you no no no you come here
you come here ayla drags you uh and you walk through this this tear in space and suddenly
what was you know nearly 200 feet in front of you becomes your immediate surroundings um as you look
up and this ship is coming down at an angle it is like barreling towards Sentry. And you can see that there is this giant
sort of reinforced
ram hull that is
coming towards you.
Are they flying right now?

They're on the ground.
Okay, cool.
Hello, gonna make you all invisible next, and then we get
out of here. Okay, cool. Yes, thanks. Bye!
Okay. Hi, Nova. Hello.

Ayla.
Ayla. Oh, it's good to see you.
I am going to...
So I've still got Expeditious Retreat concentrating.
I checked for that on the last hit.
But I'm going to Beacon of Hope and hold that in Elder Quill,
and that's going to hit the four of us now, which is pretty cool.

And then I'm going to glug a Superior Healing Potion as a bonus action.
Do I get maxed from that because of Beacon of Hope?
You would, yeah.
Technically, Beacon of Hope is active and it maximizes any hit points restored. I mean, unless it says only from a spell
or does it just say any hit points you regain are maximised?

regains the maximum number from any healing.

Up on the ship,
it seems that with the ship
barreling towards you, two more of these combat
squads are going to take aim, and they're
going to fire at Nova and
Ayla, the two new arrivals. They're just
basically lining up along the sides of the ship,
and as it kind of barrels forward, they lean over and all
blast you with a barrage of fire.
So, against
Nova, that is going to be a 22.
That will hit, yes.
That is going to be 11 points
of force damage. And then
against Aayla, that's a 19.
Oh, just.
Just hits. That is going to
be 13 points of
force damage.
So, you know, just
being peppered by these
stinging blasts of fire,
like all falling around you, some of them missing,
some of them hitting you, but enough to kind of
singe and burn, cause
injuries as you do so.
Lucius.
Right. Lucius is
going to panic.
However, still do things.
On your own.
I'm going to walk uh however still you have been left on your own i'm gonna walk over or run over trot over to the cannon here i'm gonna just remind you as i described this very briefly but i think you were getting stream stuff ready all of the wall the
cannon is turned to glass it is non-functional umal. It is turned to glass with the rest of the center.
Okay.
I'm going to cast Fly on myself.
Okay.
And then I hover at the wall
in anticipation of them coming towards me.
Okay, sure.

That's my action, isn't it?
So yeah, that's what I'm doing.

There is a captain on the ship.
The captain is just going to command his crew.
Doesn't need to take an action this turn.
So, Sentry.
I'm going to cast enlarge and go big time.
And then I want to try and...

It's a lovely idea in a sense of,
but also what I'm going to say is this.
At the moment, they have no reason not to attack you.
So unless you're going to offer them something,
like if you're just going to try and be like,
no, don't fight us, it's probably not going to work because they have numbers, they have strength,
they're in a position of power.
If they were like heavily injured or weakened,
then maybe there'd be a chance of something like this succeeding.
But I think that, yeah, it's going to be very difficult
to convince people who have taken no injuries to just stop.
Unless you're going to surrender,
unless you're going to try and offer them something.
As she goes massive.
Yeah, it's a hard sell.
Let's put it that way.

I don't want to say no,
but it's the kind of idea that this would be
an incredibly hard DC.

To convince them not to attack.
When they're attacking the city,
you are clearly foes or potential foes.
Yeah, it's a tricky one okie dokie um i mean you may certainly always try but i just want to warn you that
maybe save that for when you've injured them or like when they're on on the run or like you know
you've got the upper hand that's always a stronger position to try and make those kind of bargains from all right in that case then i will uh prepare an action to get out of the way or to not get out
of the way but uh uh can i like move in front of someone if an attack is made against them sure
yeah yeah absolutely yeah yeah yeah i'd be a shield. Just get ready in case something like that happens.

In that case, we jump back up to Ayla.
So Sentry, you've kind of enlarged.
I'm assuming at the moment you are at the front.
Ayla, I'm assuming you're also kind of next to Sentry
and then Quill and Nova are behind you, yeah?

There's like a little circle on the ruler
icon. It's about sort of
60, 40, 60 feet away.
I'd say the front of the ship is about 40 feet
away from you.

There's technically two.
There's one on the top and then there's one on the bottom.
And the one at the bottom was the one that took the shot last time.
So it looks like one's designed for like shooting ground and then one's for shooting other airships.
Can I try and take out the one on the bottom with throwing my hammer at it?
Yeah, you can certainly try.

it's kind of built into the bottom of the hull.
The hammer, crackling with lightning, it surges up and strikes into the cannon.
Okay, so the ship can't make a dexterity saving throw, so I guess it just takes the damage?
Technically, it can make a dexterity saving throw. It's very, very bad at them.
Could you make one?
Because it's a massive giant ship. I mean, you rolled the attack bonus. I would say that
you're just going to try and beat the cannon's AC. I don't think that it needs to make the
dexterity saving throw. It's just going to take the damages as if you'd thrown the hammer and
then the lightning goes off.
So, ooh, I rolled full damage on my dice.
filled damage on my dice uh uh 21 hammer damage and then oh six oh i rolled two sixes on my dice what's happening so the lightning damage does not seem to be as effective so half the lightning
damage so that was if you got two sixes 12 so six for that right 20 21 total lightning damage 20 so half to 10 so 21 hammer
damage and then 10 lightning damage for 31 total damage so the hammer throws through and the impact
of the hammer cracks parts of the crystalline um you know barrel of the this arcane cannon this
magitek magical cannon the impact of of the hammer cracks a section of it
and you see parts of it break away.
The lightning does seem to echo around it
and it kind of singes it and you see it smoke,
but it seems that some of the lightning
was maybe absorbed or resisted in some way.
But yeah, the blow kind of smashes against it.
The cannon still seems operational,
but a heavy blow for sure.
Okay, I can't really do anything else.
Uh...
And then Hammer comes flying back.
Oh yeah.
Okay.
Alright. On the warship's
turn, its first action
is going to be to
ram.
It moves 100ft in a straight line.
So, hang on. let me just measure so ramming
ram to the ground we win it scoops and it's this ship is huge and it's got this giant
ram built into the front of it so when it hits the earth it churns the rocks and it
kind of scrapes the ground as it does so.
Holy crap.
It means that the Hulk, or the Ram in this case,
is going to take some damage.
But all of you need to... So you have a choice.
Each player who the ship moves through must make a choice.
A creature can try and dodge or brace against the ship.
If a creature wishes to dodge, they must use their reaction.
So if you don't have your reaction sentry,
you can't make the dodge attempt because the dodge attempt is
you are going to try and move out of the way before the ship reaches you.
Basically, so you spend your movement to go to one side.
Basically,
if you can't dodge or if you, you know, don't have enough movement
to get out of the way,
then you're basically going to be making a strength saving throw
against this thing smashing into you.
So what do you guys want to do?
I do have Expeditious Retreat.
Does that help in any way?
Yeah, if it's active.
So basically, if you want to dodge, you use your reaction
and then you can move your movement speed.
Okay, awesome.
I mean, I can move like 100 feet,
so I won't do the entire thing.
Sure.
I want to move off to the side as much as I can.
You basically don't want to be anywhere
where the hull of the ship is going to touch you.
So the sails, the things on the side are fine
if they touch you.
It's a massive airship, you duck under them or whatever,
but it's the hull of the ship itself.
Yeah.
What's the save to dodge? Sorry?
There's no save to dodge.
You just have to use your reaction if you have it.
Oh, okay.
Use your movement speed to run out the way.
If you don't have your reaction,
you must make a strength saving throw to brace.
I'll run.
I mean, I feel like this ship is about to crash
into an enlarged sentry.
Something is going to take more damage.
I don't think it's sentry.
I can't move my token, by the way.
I mean, sentry's only large.
This ship is gargantuan.
Yeah, I know, but there's going to be a sentry-sized scrape
along the entire bottom of the ship.
Poor sentry gets knocked away
and gets
impacted with a colossal force.

I mean, that's fine. Absolutely.

Alright, so three of you scatter to the sides
as this thing just moves through.
This is just one of its actions, but Sentry,
having protected Quill, you just don't have
the reaction speed to be able to
run out of the way, so instead
this thing comes towards you. I need you to make a strength saving
throw for me, please. I get
advantage because I'm big.
You do? And you get to add a d4, I believe.

Oh, no!
So you watch as Sentry
is pummeled by this thing.
First of all, Sentry,
you are knocked to either side
50 feet, and you're going to be not prone,
but you also, this thing hits you
so hard like
with all the force of this ship coming in at full speed it it hits like a it hits badly
it hits like a warship
that's 68 bludgeoning damage as this thing slams into you and sends you flying let's just
uh roll a d4 up towards those guys keep touching the ship uh so 20 so century
so quill you watch a century gets like thrown to the side slams into the ground leaving this kind of like drag mark where she gets impacted into the ground oh next to me yeah
amazing my bigness goes i'm no longer big remember we did change it rihanna you don't need to
concentrate on business concentrate oh. Oh, thank god.
Yeah, because we changed it because we talked about how it was basically really shitty that you would use it and then it would go away.
So, yeah, you're still big, you don't have to worry about that. You're big for a minute, it doesn't change.
Still big.
But yeah, you watch as this ship then just sails forward, basically.
That's okay, I mean, all its weapons,
or its big weapon is at the front, which is
now pointed at Lucius.
Yeah, exactly that.
So Lucius is flying
and it does still have a cannon
on the top.
And the other problem is that there's now a big
ship between us and Aayla.
Ah, you're fine. Don't worry
about me. Aayla will find a way through it. So it's Ram you're fine. Don't worry about me.
Ayla will find a way through it. So it's Ram is
one action. Life will find a way.
Whenever it fires a weapon or does one of
these special actions, it means that one of the squads
on top doesn't get to do anything else
that turn, by the way. So it kind of uses its
crew as a resource.
However, Lucius, yeah, you see this
glowing cannon at the front of the ship like
and it fires towards you.
I picture it just, you see that glow through a thick mist of smoke
that's just been churned up.
And all I see is this airship pushing through.
Yeah, so also it kind of dips upwards.
It's only maybe sort of 20 feet off the ground,
but this thing does look like it can turn pretty sharply if it needs to.
But it's kind of dug into the ground in a scoop
and then it's now making its way back up
into the air.
So, Lucius.
That's a 24.
My AC is

Is there anything you would like to do?
Do you have shields or anything?
I'm flying, so
I'll look good as i get hit okay nice
i'm gonna die

So you manage to stay in the air as you're hit by this enormous explosion.
And then for its last action, it's just going to fire its two ballistae.
One is going to fire at Quill,
one is going to fire at Ayla.

That is a 17 to hit.
Yeah, I have no reaction, so yeah.

Ballista kind of
screams past you, scraping alongside. Ayla, that's a 10 to hit, so you just Ballista kind of screams past you, scraping alongside.

You hear the shouts of the crew on board, just like,

On Teleport, plans don't seem gravy um question uh on teleport um so it obviously has the little fun um table of conditions um if i wanted to teleport to where lucius is um would that come under i feel like
it would be seen casually um because i'm i don't know because i'm looking at it i'm looking at it yeah you're
looking at it i would say very familiar very familiar yeah i'd count as very familiar i mean
