Starting point is 00:00:00 Hello, Hello. Welcome back to part two of Hyrule as a Roess. Our party are currently engaged in a battle, a duel of sorts, against Kalas Valkyrian, a.k.a. Kalas Starbane, an enemy that has been present throughout their history from the beginning of the campaign, and now testing them to see if the champions are strong enough an enemy that has been present throughout their history from the beginning of the campaign. And now testing them to see if the champions are strong enough to go against Hadar. They are fighting in the abandoned sky city of Kassatoris.

Starting point is 00:02:59 This is a magitek effect, so yes, they would, except for Aayla, because I think she's out of range because you are out of range of the attack so i got 20. that's a failure i'm afraid three plus three as well yep uh sorry what save is it dexterity dexterity okay maybe so i failed it for alia so far i got 19. ready for quills 23. 23 is a success for Lucius, so half damage to Lucius. The plasma cutter was from the blade, it just seems to be his power, but this, the Dampening Field, he kind of like boop-boop, and then swipes it and it moves over. Dampening Field, Quill, Lucius, Ayla, wisdom saving throw please. Is this still advantage? Yeah. Are you shitting all over my face right now?
Starting point is 00:05:13 I could be. Can someone shit all over my face right now? Man, no I don't think I'm going to... Sounds like you failed. Ayla, 19 failure for Quill. 18. 18 failure. Everyone fails. That is that you're all affected by the slow spell. Everybody gains a stack of Magitek Field. Do you count the plus 3s as well from his entry?
Starting point is 00:05:29 Yeah. Okay. It wouldn't have mattered if you didn't have Magitek Field. But yeah. So everyone is affected by slow and you gain a stack of Magitek Field. And then the last thing you can do is make one attack against Aayla. Fuck. Yep.
Starting point is 00:05:40 However, 24. Yes, it'll hit. Okay. Two stacks it'll hit. Two stars now. That's going to be 19 slashing, so half that down to eight, and then six points of force damage. And then we go to Aayla's turn. I'm going to move out of the thing.

The two swirling vortexes, I have to roll to see which direction they travel in. So, one, and I'm going to go round. So one at the top. One, two, three, four, five.
Starting point is 00:06:29 Five? Straight into me. It goes diagonally right, so I go five. Like that. Quill, I need you to make a straight turn. Yeah, advantage again, I guess. It's a spell effect. It doesn't matter. Well, maybe actually. I got a 20 that time. 20, and I'm afraid not.
Starting point is 00:06:52 Okay. 10 points of slashing damage, but you are pulled out of the field. Hey! Way to go, there's a benefit. Thanks, Starbane. Idiot. Well, he doesn't control them now. They're now just moving around. Sorry, Ayla, continue your turn. I'm going to try and hit him. That was 23.
Starting point is 00:07:21 23 hits. 16 hammer, 6 lightning. So 19 total. And I rolled a 3, so 18 won't hit. That won't hit, and it will activate one of his reactions. Can he...so I forgot, the one that did hit, because I've hit him with an attack, can you make a... Hang on, what kind of save is that?
Starting point is 00:08:00 I can use my reaction to knock him prone, strength save. Hmm. It was a natural 20 as well. 37. Nevermind, that's pretty strong. He's very strong. Also, you missed him with one attack, which means he can use his try again reaction
Starting point is 00:08:19 to hit you with a powerful strike. For a 23 to hit. It's gonna be 12 bludgeoning, so half to six. And I need you to make a strength saving throw as he's gonna try and knock the hammer out of your hands. 29. 29 is enough, yeah. So he tries to, as you miss, he tries to bring his blade down on the crossguard or in between the hammer and try and yank it out of your hand,
Starting point is 00:08:55 but you shove him off, basically. He still strikes you a little bit, but we prevent him from disarming you. Dex save. Dex save through. That is going to be a 16. 17 lightning damage there's eight lightning damage uh this is kind of you can see now that like the sluggish movements like the armor is still absorbing it he's not reacting like he's in pain or anything like that you've been pummelmeling him but he is kind of like
Starting point is 00:09:26 becoming more aware and sort of like more cautious as he's fighting you as he does so. Can I just step around to the side of him a bit? I want to just be further away.

If they pass within five feet of you, or you move within five feet of them, they can try and grab you. But they have a 15 for aura of difficult terrain around them. Oh.

Starting point is 00:12:40 We go to Sentry. I would like to bonus action Misty Step. That's the only action I can take currently. Yep, that is what I was going to say. Starting point is 00:13:41 I won't remember that. 18. 17 slashing, 7 force, so 24 total. 21 is our highest AC as a collective, unless Quill. Okay, well, unless you shield it or use abilities and stuff. As I'm moving towards him, I will Hexblade Curse him. Great.
Starting point is 00:14:01 And then we'll start going in and seeing what happens. Perfect, love it. Did a lot of damage last time. That is a 20 to hit. 20 does not hit. You will activate his reaction. Try again because he gets multiple reactions. That is going to be a 22 to hit.
Starting point is 00:14:19 That hits. So this is going to be 11 points of bludgeoning damage, and he's going to try and do the same thing. Before you make your next attack, I need you to make a strength saving throw. Oh, I'm really good at those, yeah. Oh, 18 minus 2. 16. So as you go to strike, you miss, and he just looks like a shame.
Starting point is 00:14:42 Flips and then knocks Tiangong out of your hand. You are currently disarmed. Stop, Tiangong. Oh, yeah, that's right. Your new sword, which I can't remember the name of. Mundane. Something. I can't remember.
Starting point is 00:14:56 Starlight sword, something? Farseeker, the starlight blade. Farseeker, that's it. Knocks Farseeker out of your hands. It's just on the ground next to you, but it would be an action to retrieve it. Doesn't throw it towards one of us. No.
Starting point is 00:15:11 For the purposes of the narrative, like, it's just on the ground. Nova can just pick it up, but she needs a turn. So if you have another weapon, you could draw another weapon if you have another weapon on your person. Or you could punch. Or you can cast a spiel.
Starting point is 00:15:25 I can't. Actually, no, because you've started attacking, so you'd have to attack with another weapon. I don't have anything on my inventory because it all disintegrated. This is one of those rare things that doesn't come up in play often very much and I don't know off the top of my head if you can summon it I'm just trying to find it where are you hexblade curse hex warrior I don't I don't think I can because I think it's like pact of the blade yeah actually something back I think it's Hex Warrior. I don't, I don't think I can. Because I think it's like Pact of the Blade is what can actually summon it back.

For the first time, you don't think that the look is because of pain or anything it's just pure shock and surprise like as you kind of he's tall like nova's small you jump and like punch him across the jaw and he doesn't move it like taps him and then bounces off and he just looks at you like I did not think you had it in you. Like this look of like, wow, okay, you actually got me. I am done with having things taken away from me. Then you should hold on tighter. Oh, you're getting another slap.
Starting point is 00:18:20 In fact, actually, at the end of Nova's turn, I'm gonna take a Tiangua Legendary Action attack against you for a 24. Let's kill him. That was so quick. I was really worryingly quick not saying that. It was 16 slashing 9 force, so that's going to be 25 total.
Starting point is 00:18:42 Quill. I want to get out of the range of this thing. I also want to buff everybody. I also want to heal everything. I also want to hurt him. I also want to move a lot in the space of one turn. How tall is the cyclone thing, actually? It's maybe like 5, 10 feet, but it's just like a...

Starting point is 00:19:45 Different Quills doing different things, and they all pass through into the real world, all casting spells at the same time. Holy shit. And I take four turns. Oh yeah! Now, I will say, the audience at home, me and Tom have agreed, because I trust Tom, and I don't like the way Time Stop works normally because it is very restrictive.
Starting point is 00:20:08 So what we've agreed is that as long as he doesn't interfere with the hit points of a creature or tries to move them or basically interacts with a specific creature, like tries to take their equipment away or move them or heal them or damage them, he can take those turns. Because Time Stop is kind of like, oh, if you cast a spell on a creature, it fucks it up. I think that's lame.
Starting point is 00:20:26 If you do anything that affects anyone. I think that's kind of lame. Whereas the idea of like, because the whole point of it is to do exactly what Tom's doing now, which is like buff, buff, buff, dispel, dispel, do a bunch of cool stuff, then it all goes off at once. So we've said as long as he doesn't interfere with the hit points, the location or the equipment,

I know you're kind of manifesting this all at once, but imagine that for a brief moment, all of those realities are acting at once outside the flow of time. So it's like the world has gone still. Like Kalos has just been punched. Aayla's kind of like, he's like striking it,
Starting point is 00:21:30 like, you know, all of that. And it just... I mean, I'm obviously going to take a couple of turns to sort of walk around and just sort of tap stuff and watch them move slowly through the air. But yeah, if the vortex has stopped next to me... Yeah, you are free to do whatever you want. So if I had time stop as the first thing,
Starting point is 00:21:48 I'm trying to figure out how to... You have four turns now, so imagine that this is the start of a brand new turn, you've got move, action, action, bonus action. Actually, it doesn't matter either way. All right, I'm going to fly up 15 feet. Oh, perfect, you got one. Somewhere.
Starting point is 00:22:02 Like above the field, so I'm not affected by that. I'm gonna cast Bacon of Hope. All right, so everybody gets what Bacon does, because I've said it a million times. You all know. Everybody gets what Bacon does. All the hits. Because I only moved 15 feet and used an action,
Starting point is 00:22:19 a no bonus action, I'll lose all my stacks of Magitek Field. Second turn, I'm going to bring out Elder Quill as a bonus action and cast Holy Aura. So everyone within 30 feet of me now has, anyone that attacks them has disadvantage against them. Yep, as well as other things if they're undead. He is not undead.
Starting point is 00:22:45 He is not undead. He's not undead, but everyone's within 30 of me, aren't they? I don't know. You tell me. I might be just on the edge. Yeah, no. Nova might just be up if you do that. Oh, yeah. You're fine. It's a plenty of turns to move a bit closer. This is turn two that you're taking now.

Now, I didn't actually expect to get this many turns he hasn't planned this far ahead because I've only got two levels of concentration I can use yes I can't effect spells oh actually I can do this I can dispel ah that effect underneath me I'd say you can this is what level of dispel that effect underneath me. I'd say you can. Um... This is what level of Dispel Magic are you going to use? So I'm going to cast this at 5th level. Okay. Um... I would say at 5th level, you do not need to roll.
Starting point is 00:23:35 It is automatically dispelled. Okay. Okay, and... Before you get it. In changing health, I will automatically end... Yes. ...my time stop. This will be the fourth turn you are currently now on. So I'll use this turn to heal.
Starting point is 00:23:49 This time I will do a Mask Cure Wounds. With bacon. With bacon at sixth level. Okay. Which is 4d8 maxed plus 6. 16, 32, 38. 38 healing to everyone. Awesome.
Starting point is 00:24:05 And because of Spellbreaker, anybody who has Magitek Field Stacks loses them. So to the rest of you, there is a moment where there is just nothing. The battle is proceeding as normal, and then suddenly Quill is not where he was. He's glowing with this holy power. Elder Quill from the staff,
Starting point is 00:24:29 this future image of Quill is beside him, both of them channeling and casting spells, as the field, the dampening field disappears, and then this healing magic just flows through you. Like... And everything just happens all at once. Lucius gets a spurting nosebleed. And on my final turn,
Starting point is 00:24:50 I will also fly back to hide behind Sentry. Mommy! I do the thing. I now need to hold onto these concentrations. Yeah. Are you still in the air or are you on the floor? Close enough so that if this, well, Sentry's large, so. Are you on the floor though?
Starting point is 00:25:07 I'll be. Are you on the ground or are you up in the air? I'll be 10 feet in the air. All right, behind Sentry still. 10 feet is not behind. It's not behind Sentry. It's like you're not getting any cover. Well, she's big Sentry,

Starting point is 00:27:06 I will protect what? Attacks, plural. Yeah. First of all, we'll have one attack from Manifested Tiangong to Nova. You don't actually need to protect. He's got disadvantage anyway. Oh, yeah. But Tiangong is technically a separate creature in this regard,

De it's still significant deck saving three uh he does seem to be a bit quicker now 17 still a fail still a fail you can see why this uh character stat block is so big now he's got multiple stances yeah 21 lightning 21 points of lightning damage you kind of hear a grunt of pain as it strikes him. End of turn? Yes, I'm out of stuff. At the end of his turn, he's going to use one of his mythic actions.
Starting point is 00:56:36 And you watch as he kind of plants himself on the ground. And he seems to turn invisible. Oh, wow. Well, now he's invisible. Seems to. He disappears. He seems to... Well, we can't see him.

Starting point is 00:57:16 You can see trails. You can see the contests. And looking over towards Nova, it's almost like behind Nova, there is the shadowy image of Tiangong. But behind the blade, there is another Tiangong, and they're like caught sort of like wrestling with each other.
Starting point is 00:57:29 You look at like all their friends and allies, you see all their magical effects. Looking around, like you should be able to see him. Why can't you see him? I'd also say it's a free action if you want to try and perceive or figure out what's going on with the stats. Yeah, I will try and figure out where he's gone.
Starting point is 01:02:13 Sure. Perception. Perception. Nat 20, you two. Sentry. Because you knew, like, Lucius is looking around like you can't see him, and you know that, you know, Lucius, when he has this prismatic effect, he can see through invisibility, you guys know each other's powers.
Starting point is 01:02:30 So you think and you focus and you're like, he's not magically invisible. He's moving so fast your eyes can't keep up with it. He's just able to move. And it looks like the Magitek is enhancing his speed. He has got some sort of magical bonus to his speed, but it's not magical invisibility. He's just moving so quick. He's only appearing when he stops to attack.
Starting point is 01:02:50 Cool. But because you succeeded, you can treat him as being visible. And he is basically... Oh, so I know where he is. Yeah, he's moved on. He's basically in the process of running back. Okay. So for you, you count him as being visible
Starting point is 01:03:03 because you can actually actually predict where he's going to be based on that. All right, I'm going to move close to him then and let the team know that that's where he is. Like, he's next to me. Yep. Yep. Everybody would still have disadvantage to attack him because he's still invisible to
Starting point is 01:03:19 them, but because you've told them where he is, they can target that space. Cool. All right? Yep. Great. Great stuff. And then Celestial goes. Starting point is 01:04:01 you get to kick on it uh yeah hang on get to pick an action uh yeah yeah i've got multi-attack and then i'm also looking at it for reasons uh well brady and mace is when you make an attack you can then target creatures so you can't do that unless you attack something unfortunately so you could just use the healing touches all right i'll use the healing touch then instead yeah so you don't get the two temporary hit points yeah because it's only when you attack you can then give somebody hit points i did wonder that was like for an action two times that's yeah that's crazy so i'll give you um yeah 2d8 plus so that's the spell right no 16 16 hp nice 16 so yeah cool nice you've just doubled his hit points you've just doubled my hit points nice his hit points you've just doubled my head points nice okay uh after your uh angel goes your your
Starting point is 01:04:55 celestial the attack drone will now go uh it is going to uh that's the defense drone the attack drone will make two attacks uh first things actually because ayla you are within i'm right next to it uh you are right next to it. Can you make a strength saving throw for me, please? Well, I rolled a 19 plus 30. A lot. So you are pushed five feet back, but no other effects, as this thing seems to emit an aura of its own. Fly right over here. And then, looking at this, it's going to fire one attack towards Quill
Starting point is 01:05:36 and one towards you, Ayla. And it fires two different kind of coloured beams. Quill, that's a 20 to hit. Yeah. colored beams quill there's a 20 to hit yeah i'll shield it because i've got uh shield faith as well so i can surpass it okay yeah i'll shield it all right so you conjure the shield this this this kind of beam of force kind of bounces away uh not striking you fully uh ala that is going to be a kind of bounces away, not striking you fully. Ayla, that is gonna be a 23 to hit. This is only gonna be six points of force damage.
Starting point is 01:06:11 However, it fires it kind of like this tethering-like beam and you are restrained. It is an action to break free, strength check to break free as it tethers you to the ground. Buzhuang. Buzhuang. No, Vija.. Buzhuom. Buzhuom. No, Veja. Sad Buzhuom. Come to you.
Starting point is 01:06:29 I'm real scared to make this roll. You've got this. Big Nat 20, here we come. Is it a saving throw? It is a Charisma ability check. D20 plus Charisma. But portent will affect it. Yeah.

Starting point is 01:07:07 Because Porten is normally like seeing the future in some way, but right now Nova can't really be reached. She's trapped in this block of ice. She's engaged in this mental battle. But what does it look like? How does Quill represent this Porten role? I had a visual in my head of how it would look if I did the other thing,
Starting point is 01:07:25 and it was to use Elder Quill to auto-succeed it. But I don't know how I can… I mean, we could still have Elder Quill reach out, like fly towards her and sort of reach her through, because he's spectral. He could probably reach through the ice and a stone or something. Elder Quill basically just flies up and places a hand on top of Nova's hand, which is on Tiangong, and just magically assists.
Starting point is 01:07:52 Is it a mechanical wing hand as well? Yeah, and it would be this kind of feeling of, like, Nova feels this surge of confidence. Like, you know that your allies are with you. No matter what happens, they're here. And no matter what happens next, they'll be there for you. And it gives you that surge of confidence to come through. And you feel what was once tipping over. You can feel other Tiangongs, Khaleesi's Tiangong mind overpowering your memories and your magic.
Starting point is 01:08:20 And now it swings back the other way as you tighten your eyes and you focus, pouring some of the more, maybe the darker moments, but also more of the more emotional moments. Like that feeling of terror as you stood on the precipice of Vorten Sarr and Tiangong came beside you. And all of these little moments, right, of like these deeper kind of like more heartbreaking memories. And it kind of keeps everything back, you know, in the. Still locked in this contest, but now it is even. And the next roll. Oh god! Yeah, I said it was best of three. Best of three.
Starting point is 01:08:53 But locked in, it is currently locked down. In terms of just pure mechanics, the Tomb of Vistas would have broken by now. Okay, so now you watch Nova is no longer covered in ice, but he's just stood there holding this blade, eyes shut, and the blade is rod still, just holding it, and they're locked in place, almost like they've been frozen in time. Quill.
Starting point is 01:09:17 And this is going to be our last one for today's session. I want to fly basically in a position where those two drones are in a line. There is a little bit of cover from this one. And I will cast... If he's flying, would it cover? Oh, that's true. Yeah, if he's flying, the cover won't apply. Good call.
Starting point is 01:09:42 Am I? You can be. Yeah, you are. No, I'm looking at spells again. I thought I could. Yeah, I will. I'll cast Sunbeam. Fade.
Starting point is 01:09:53 At what level? This is at 7th level. Nice. In that case, what do I have to do for both drones? For both drones, they have to make Constitution saving throws, and they have to do for both drones for both drones they have to make constitution saving throws and they have to be 22. they both fail cool they take 68 damage both should i roll individually or uh roll it once and i'll do it to both they don't they have the same resistances 30 to both of them 30 points of damage and. And I'm concentrating on that. You watch as the attack drone,
Starting point is 01:10:26 the one with the gun, is looking pretty beaten up. Like you can see scorch marks. It's still capable of, it's still in flight, it's still activated, but you can see like that sunbeam like tears like part of its front armor off. The other drone, there is a moment where the sunbeam almost stops. Like it kind of blocks it as if by shield,
Starting point is 01:10:42 but then the powerful magic kind of penetrates through and like burns through them both. But yeah, does strike true. Sweet. And I mean, I know Elder Quill is assisting Nova, but I'd like to think that Elder Quill is kind of saying these small phrases to Nova to spark up memories like Bortensar, airship, Rosehall, Kali's Rest,
Starting point is 01:11:09 all these different things to just bring up new memories for Nova. Just being well-activated. 17, firetruck. Since the beginning of this turn, you cast a spell, because you cast Conjurer of Selector. You cast a spell, didn't you? Uh-huh, yeah. Did you cast a spell this turn?
Starting point is 01:11:23 Razorgore. Before the sunbeam goes off, I have to check because the defense drone seems to flicker as you cast that spell as it begins you detecting it. It's going to try and cancel. It doesn't cancel. Oh, okay. It tries to count spell it and it does not.
Starting point is 01:11:38 On that drone's turn, however, it is going to attempt to dispel the Sunbeam. Um... It is an active ongoing spell, and it casts at 7th level, so the DC would be 17. I'm going to make it roll a 6. Okay. It fails. I am sick of my concentrations going away. So you kind of imagine you see this thing projecting this kind of dispelling force,
Starting point is 01:12:04 and for a moment you just let the sunbeam go drop, and then the dispelling kind of shot flies overhead, and then the sunbeam continues on. And that, my friends, is going to bring us to the top of a brand new round, and that's where we're going to have to call it today, because we're already over time. The duel continues. The battle.
