the team must figure out how to proceed.
Welcome back to Arise.
Thank you guys very much for joining us. We jump back in as the party are exploring a flooded ruin, a ruin of a watchtower to
Siaska.
And yeah, the party have explored a couple of rooms, figuring out moving around underwater,
exploring strange places.
They've just discovered a scrop case, excuse me, with a key.
Every time. Guaranteed one per episode. Meh.
Instead of a daddy count we should have a burp count.

And it's basically telling the
troops to have the wounded move to the dormitories
and to activate the magical
security leading to the shrine
for fears of the watchtower being
overrun.

spend ten minutes
preparing something real quick.

level um what do we want to do guys then we could go back to the first room I found or
there's a there's a further down the corridor I didn't quite get there
there's probably more of these there's also that guy who definitely saw me in
the other room but if we have battle orders now there's no air in there. We can't talk. Oh, yeah.
And also, if he sees me, I mean, I'm not from his time.
He'll probably assume I'm Starbane.

is a portcullis, like a series of metal bars,
pointed, barbed at the end.
They've come halfway down the corridor,
and then it appears it's gotten stuck
and then rusted or stayed in place.
And you can see, kind of impaled on the portcullis
is a large probably nine feet tall if it had been standing um but now it's like hunched and
crouched down obviously creature its skull has these huge horns curling from the side of its head
its bulk is very wide skeleton um its legs
appear to be more like an animal's almost like cloven um and it's got armor it's got rusted
black metal armor um and it appears to have been impaled by the portcullis but obviously kept it
in place so long that now the portcullis is lowered um and it's just difficult terrain to
move past because you kind of have to go underneath it.
So we can go, it's just...
Yeah, but if you do that you'll basically be like here.
So that's another round, so it's now four rounds.
Okay, yeah, just move that down.
Scoot that down to about there so you can see um just ahead of you you begin to see that the
corridor turns to your left but then it appears that a part of the corridor has broken away to
the right and created a very narrow natural kind of like k like uh passageway but it's very tight. Somebody would need to
squeeze through it like you'd be spelunking
kind of thing.

At the end of this coil,
the rope's going to run out, I think.

So as you come around the corner, you can see, again, it seems to descend down.
You do get the sense that it opens up into a room,
but you can't really see beyond this kind of murky,
silt-filled, sedimenty water.

So, Araya, when you get to about here,
you're all kind of on the same two squares.
There is an entranceway into this room.
You can see that it opens up.
You notice, Araya, with your passive perception,
see that it opens up you notice ariah with your passive perception above you there is a thin like about the same width as an iron bar like space in the ceiling um like a like a groove okay you just
notice that as you're walking underneath it you're like look up and you can see this groove
leading into the room okay does it like does look weird, like a trap or anything?
It's a groove.

Yeah, you look up and where the rest of it has all been perfect carved stone,
you kind of just glance up and you can see this kind of thin groove,
like a space above the corridor.
Can I swim up and have a look at it?
Yeah, you want to inspect it.
It's an investigation check. Nice. Invest that's an eight. An eight. You're looking at it and you
could have put your fingers up a little bit and just it but it's quite dark and the
angle you can't quite see. Yeah you're not sure how far it goes up or what,
some sort of groove. I just gesture to Nova, point of it and just shrug at it.
Once a riot points out, you can all see it.

Looking up, you can get the sense that this is actually very similar to the portcullis you just passed.
It looks like iron bars are hidden quite far deep in, like you're really having to peer, use like a little bit of scarf to get your sight,
and it looks like the portcullis will drop down.
Okay, and you say it runs the whole length of the room?
It basically, it runs like across the doorway.
Oh, across the doorway. So it looks like it would cut the doorway off so i'll try and mime um like i'll point back
to where we came and just mime my hands dropping cool thumbs up scaldi just kind of like nods
and shrugs like what are we doing now yeah Yeah, I'll look to Araya and be like,
sort of point further in the room and shrug.
Can I look around for any sort of trigger?
Yeah, that would have been part of the investigation.
When you searched the groove,
there was no indication of what would trigger this.

It doesn't appear to be connected to this entryway, the trigger.

So as you swim into this room,
get ready to roll some dice. Um, so as you begin swimming through,
you can see the sediment, um, to this room. Um,
it's still that kind of like murky sediment, but what you can see is in the corner,
half buried, half submerged, but leading up,
there are stairs and actually there is air above you now.
As you kind of swim into this room,
you get the sense that this is a much taller room.
Like there's maybe about a good 10, 15 feet
above you of air.
And you can see a stairway that leads up onto a lipped platform
that is looking down on the water from about 10 feet high.
Mounted into the ceiling at the edge of that lip and looking down,
you see a colossal device that appears to be resembling like a ballistae
that's mounted into the ceiling
with rusted clockwork gears you hear this
As it snaps into place bolts fire down
So give me a second. That mini has four shots and that ballista.
That's crazy.
The mini is, I've had to use a Warhammer mini
because I didn't quite have an example one on here.
Let's do a quick initiative round for you guys
because this thing isn't the fastest thing in the world.
It's going to go well.

Natural one on Rhiannon.
This thing does have disadvantage
because of its rusted gears,
but that was still a 15.
Is there disadvantage for it shooting into the water as well?
If it was firing normal bolts, yes.

So, Scaldy just manages to, like,
swim to the side
as this bolt scorches the ground next to her.
Bowling drowned would be the worst way.

You're like, boop, as this pair of weighted bowlers like,
and just wraps and hits the ground.
You can see it's actually connected to a chain,
and then you hear like, as it snaps back into the bolter.
So cool.
Nova, your go go you can see there
are stairs leading up um so we we underwater you are currently so imagine if this was 3d
you guys are underwater there's about 15 20 feet of air above you this thing is at the far end of
the room mounted into the ceiling looking down like it can see everything in this room you see it all it's this and then
you can see a stairway leading up to a stone platform which appears to be above and is look
is you know underneath the the creature this bolter
it's just like i think technically you guys are like this because you're all swimming together
is it made of metal?
Parts of it appear to be.
Can I cast heat metal on it?

Well, swam into a ruin.

and the shimmer seems somewhat distorted,
and the thing just spins around again.

We go to Scaldi,
sees you swimming forwards,
is just going to try and follow I'm sure what else to do
and will
sacred flame up towards this thing
it doesn't seem to necessarily
it doesn't dodge out of the way
but what it does is
as the kind of flame hits it
this shimmering field of magic
somewhat seems to protect it
and the
it's just a way of it making deck saves without
making deck saves i'll see the thing roll out of the way uh if i if i had wanted i could have put
it on like a little track but i was just like no i'm gonna do that it does appear to be fixed in
one place um but the sacred flame just doesn't seem to affect it in any way oraya um i'm gonna
cast zephyr Strike for myself.
Uh-oh.
So I move like the wind until my spell ends.
My movement doesn't provoke
opportunity attacks.
I get an extra D8
of force damage on a hit.
But my walking speed
increases by 30 feet
until the end of the turn.
