We rejoin in the inner sanctum of the Temple of Hesper, where the party is attempting to resolve the situation with the Tempest Dragon at the heart of the storms over Voxar. The party appear to be attempting to heal or somehow cleanse the corruption
Starting point is 00:01:47 that has infected it from Zarkira, and that is where you join us. Four of the party are currently in a dream realm occupied by nightmares that the dragon is plagued by, creatures, living creatures, that seem able to turn power against them. Meanwhile, Quill and Sentry are trying to heal the wounds around the dragon and remove the shards that seem to be causing these nightmares.
Starting point is 00:02:12 And we jump back in with Kelek and Kalah. Cool. Well, now that I've lost concentration on my aura of vitality, I will instead concentrate on Beacon of Hope. And I will use a bonus action to cast a second level i have some bad reminder for you there thomas just remember you've if you've cast beacon of hope you're right yeah it's kind of you've got that so can you can vote um so can beacon of hope um the creatures in it targets creatures in range now can i use it to target the shards as well uh the shots yes you you the beacon of hope effect will extend to
Starting point is 00:02:57 shards yes i will i will give you that yes i thought you were going to suggest your party members but no they are they are in another realm. Yeah, okay. Cool, so these two shards, the shard on its back and the shard on its leg, I'll target those as well, so they'll receive maximum healing. And that is... Actually, you know what?

Starting point is 00:03:29 Yeah, five feet in the air, and I nudge forward just a little bit just so I could get the extra shard as well. Okay. Nova Vija in the other realm. At the start of your turn, I would like a wisdom saving throw, please. Okay.
Starting point is 00:03:42 Meh. With advantage. 15 is the highest one. 15, 16, 17, 18 is the total. Minus 4 is 14. You're going to have some damage coming your way, I'm afraid. Boo. 25 psychic damage.
Starting point is 00:04:01 Mm-mm. SpaghettiOs. I have a question in terms of geography. If I was to theoretically cast Wall of Light, which can be free-floating and the walls can be aligned horizontally, is there a way that i can cast it now i've checked all the dimensions so i can hit all three but can i cast it so that it doesn't touch the dragon so it kind of hovers and aligns over the dragon kind of like above it yeah um in
Starting point is 00:04:37 which case i would like to cast wall of light in a triangular fashion that hits all three nightmares. I'll draw it out in a second because I did just measure it. Can all three creatures please make a con save of 17? Well, don't make 17. First one, fail. Second one, fail.
Starting point is 00:05:00 Third one, fail. All three fail. Okay. All three fail. Can. All three fail. It's the beginning of light, like a twan-like. Can they be blinded? They can. In which case, they're all blinded.
Starting point is 00:05:17 Oh, damn. And then I've also got 2d10 damage as well. Okay, so I rolled. 8, 8, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20. Oh my god, that's a 7! 27. I thought it was a 1. It was a 7.
Starting point is 00:05:37 What did I just say? 27. 27. Sorry! 27! 27 points of radiant damage plus 14 of the corruption damage. So 27 plus 14 is 41 points of damage. And then four points of extra damage to the one that is nearest to me
Starting point is 00:05:59 that has my hexblade curse on it. So. The first nightmare creature, the one closest to Nova, as the wall of light pierces through it, it almost begins to crack and break, and you feel the light beginning to
Starting point is 00:06:16 pulse out of it, kind of breaks up. Eventually, it shatters, and one of the illusory scenes, that of the Valkyrian invasion, evaporates from the dreamscape. As it does, Johan, as this thing dies, you see the kind of light around the shard area begin to swell. Sentry and Kelek, you see the glyphs on the shard close to the one that you've been healing burn out. They kind of seem to burn apart.
Starting point is 00:06:43 And now there's just this little bit of corruption left in the scales that needs to be removed. But the shard seems healing burn out. Johan, you may return everyone, and it has to be everyone, to the material plane when this creature dies, and then you can re-enter the dream on another turn. It's your reaction.
Starting point is 00:06:59 As a reaction, you can return everyone to the physical realm. I take everyone out now. Okay, so all of you kind of see uh you just seem to get pulled back into the material realm as that nightmare disappears the other two are still there um but yeah you will reappear next to quill uh and century uh quill and century see lucius has fallen unconscious um he's on one hit point yes you're correct that's true uh awesome um is that the end of your turnover oops um yeah if we're pulled out uh you can still maintain concentration no you're still concentrating on the wall of light will be there is there other plane in the
Starting point is 00:07:43 dream space yes in the dreamscape. Okay, cool. I am just drawing it quickly. You can still draw it. Draw it where it was. Yeah, that's fine. Sentry, start of your turn. Wisdom saving throw, please,
Starting point is 00:07:58 because you have a stack of corruption. Yeah. That is a 19. Minus 2, 17. It's still enough. You managed to hold off again this intense pressure building in your mind as you do so. Nice. It's your turn.
Starting point is 00:08:16 I'm going to raise Her Majesty's Rosaloft and I would like to cast Warding Bond on Quill, please. Using a charge. And I would like to cast Warding Bond on Quill, please. Okay. Nice. So that will give Quill a plus one bonus to AC and saving froze. And saving froze. Quill has resistance to all damage.
Starting point is 00:08:36 Each time it takes damage, you take the same amount, though, Sentry. So if Quill takes damage, you take the same amount of damage. But because Quill has resistance to damage, to all damage, it means he'll take half and then you'll take the same amount. Cool. Is that end of your turn, Sentry? Yeah, that's it. I'll just keep sticking close to Quill. Stick to him like glue. Okay. You can see, Sentry,
Starting point is 00:08:57 because you and Quill are the closest to the shard, there is still a little bit left of the corrupted wound around it and then there's the other two still remaining, as well uh johan cool um do i get the feeling that i could take people back again yes yeah you can yeah up to three creatures can i move my movement over to like here uh 30 feet i'm gonna call it again whenever you're ready we have to go back in and I'm going to hold out my hands just to wait for
Starting point is 00:09:30 oh start with your hand wisdom saving throw as well oh Mark Humes you have advantage don't forget 17 minus is that minus 4? it is advantage over yet seven plan mainest that means for his balls 13 it's the I'm quite slow, so just ignore it. 37 psychic damage.

But can someone, let's say I have Kim, roll a d6 for me, please. Just quickly, so with my Hexblade Curse, I healed 17 when that nightmare died. Does that remove some of the corruption?

Starting point is 00:11:14 A 3? We are literally just going through the list. Yeah. So. You notice... Let's roll a d8 from Quill. You see just on the, a kind of pool of silvery light shaped like wind currents begins to swirl and appear like a faint trace of divine energy

Starting point is 00:12:09 go and stand next to Johan and ready an action that if he takes me back into the dream world, I will throw the Howling Gale to the
Starting point is 00:12:28 furthest away one, which will go through the one in front of you as well. That's awesome. That's a really great setup. Yeah, that sounds good. Sorry, at the start of your turn, Aayla, as well, there's another Wisdom saving throw, I'm afraid, as well. It's gonna fail. It's a fail.

He was clearly panicked, and it looked like he was probably going to be unable to do anything on that turn anyway. Being so close, yeah. The nightmares
Starting point is 00:14:05 and the mind kind of being influenced. When you go to zero, you cleanse all stacks of corruption. So like when you actually fall unconscious, the corruption kind of leaks out of you. Did that happen the first time? No, because you never went to zero. The Book of Shadows stops you. It stops you at one hit point.

Yep, and you don't have any corruption to equal, so yeah, they kind of tie and turn and haunt you with these visions but again, you manage to kind of steal your mind against them, resisting the influences of the nightmares. At the end of the round
Starting point is 00:15:16 Go on. Sorry, are they finishing their turn in the Wall of Light? They probably wouldn't because they're not stupid. They would probably just step back a little bit like this. They are blinded. Would that have affected what they just did?
Starting point is 00:15:32 No. It's like an extra sensory damage thing. Their physical attacks it would have affected, but they can't do that when you're in this realm. Can you do a constitution saving throw for both of them uh and then yeah they can end the blinding if you want so okay one one ended it was like 21 um and then the other
Starting point is 00:15:52 one doesn't so one of them seems to yeah become become aware ah but yeah as they do so at the end of the round that sadly that building silvery point of light, unfortunately your initiatives kind of work against you on this one. The silvery light vanishes. From sight. Kilik Ad Kalah. Right. I would like to... You can see this shard next to you is nearly healed.
Starting point is 00:16:22 That's fine. With everyone looking miserable, and while I've still got my Beacon of Hope, I want to cast, at 6th level, a Mass Cure Wounds. So 4d8. How many creatures can you affect? Six. Ah, six creatures
Starting point is 00:16:45 so the shards by the way you can count as a creature for purposes of healing so each shard counts as one creature 8 creatures ok well I'm definitely doing Lucius I'm definitely doing Johan and

And Beacon of Hope, is that something where when you cast it, it only affects the things in the Beacon of Hope, or is it constantly active? So it's only the two shards that get the maximum amount. Yeah, so they get 4d8 plus 5 maxed, which is 16, 32, 37 healing on the two shards. Okay, the first shard, the entire corrupted wound around it
Starting point is 00:17:48 burns away. Whatever power this shard had is eradicated and it now looks like you could pull it free. Whatever was anchoring it to the creature before is gone and now that the corrupted wound has been healed, it looks like it could be physically pulled free as you do so.
Starting point is 00:18:04 The other one that was at 37, you said, 37 hit points? Yes. That one, you see a large area of the corruption is burnt away as well, turning back to these stormy scales as it once was. Cool. And everyone else gets 29 healing. Awesome. Nice. Those of you with corruption, you reduce else gets 29 healing. Awesome. Nice. Those of you with corruption, you reduce your corruption by 2. Ah, free!

Starting point is 00:19:40 I like it. A melee spell attack with the Wall of Light against the creature that is on the right wing. Okay, sure. Nothing else over on your 10? That one. I got that now, Swoo. Okie dokie.
Starting point is 00:19:57 Can I move up to the corrupted foot standing in the goo once more? And then pull out the shard. Surge of corruption. Yeah, then uh gain of surge of corruption yeah so you gain that's two levels of corruption for you now century two levels yeah okay so so uh so at the start of your turn sorry century
Starting point is 00:20:14 can you make a wisdom saving throw this is when you're at one i'm trying to remember the sequence of how everything goes that's the first that is 21 yeah minus 2 19 still enough you step through the goo. You feel that power surge. You step up to the shard.
Starting point is 00:20:28 Your strength is 20. It is... Strength score. Strength score... 18. 18's still enough, just. With 18 strength, you heft, kind of planting your feet, and you manage to pull out this
Starting point is 00:20:45 jagged blade of black crystal metal similar to you've seen in Valkyrian warships and things like that and as you pull it free and throw it to the ground the wound just begins to heal up on its own like sealing as if regenerating and you see that the actual wound
Starting point is 00:21:02 is knitting back together and is not turning dark and corrupted once again. The black crystal just begins to dissolve, turning into a black dust. Awesome. I'll move back out of the goo. Not to say to
Starting point is 00:21:18 Quill, good job. Two left to do. We can do this. Up to them now. Okay. Johan. I'm gonna meet eyes with Lucius and be like, are you ready?
Starting point is 00:21:39 Someone else should go. I'm not ready. Then could I just bam for the two of them? Yeah, you can. It's up to three. So yeah, with Aayla and Nova in hand, you fool yourself re-enter the dream. You do automatically
Starting point is 00:21:54 gain one level of corruption each as soon as you enter. But yeah, you emerge back in the dream and you can see. So Aayla and Nova, both of your readied actions go off. Aayla, you can still hit both of them with the hammer throw. And then Nova, your spells go off. Do Aayla first.
Starting point is 00:22:11 Okay. 22 to hit. 22 will hit the one at the back, and then it's a deck save for the one en route. That's a failure. So 46, I think, to the one before, and then a hammer hit plus 46 to the one at the bottom
Starting point is 00:22:27 1d10 added to both so 10 oh 20 lightning damage to the one that failed because I rolled 10 twice on my 2d6 get the right dice and the hammer blow is because I rolled 10 twice on my 2d6. Get the right dice.
Starting point is 00:22:49 And the hammer blow is not great, but 13 on the hammer blow, plus, do they take the same 4d6, or do I roll again? They take the same, and they roll again. Yeah, we'll just do it as that, actually. We'll just do it the same.
Starting point is 00:23:05 Plus then an extra D10 for both of them. No, it's one hit, so it would just be one. Nine. Nine points. Okay. So as the hammer transforms into a bolt of lightning and passes through the one closest to you, very similar to when the wall of light
Starting point is 00:23:25 pierced through its body, it just breaks apart, already clearly heavily injured by all the damage you've done to it, and it just shatters. The shard in the dragon's back in the middle, you see, those of you in the material plane, see the
Starting point is 00:23:42 glyphs go dull once again. The corruption's still there, but the glyph's now dulled as that nightmare vanishes. The last remaining nightmare still standing, just kind of writhes, and you all begin to hear this kind of voice just like, No, no, this is mine. You cannot have it. Then Johan takes his go go because those were both held actions oh sorry Nova's
Starting point is 00:24:09 held actions I thought that Nova had taken her but you targeted the one on the wing I said the nearest one on the right wing so because I specifically said that I guess I can't do it as you are casting that's when the lightning hits it your spell still goes off you still cast the spell,
Starting point is 00:24:25 but it just hits nothing as you were kind of aiming in that area. Unfortunately, that's the way with held actions, is you have to specify the target. Okay. So, yeah, Johan. I'll take a step to here, and I'll cast a fifth-level lightning bolt on it, hitting that one. It is a failure. Cast a fifth level lightning bolt on it. Sure.
Starting point is 00:24:45 Hitting that one. It is a failure. Let's see what we do. Oh, my God. Forty-five. Oh, my God. Forty-five damage. Oh, boy.

Starting point is 00:26:03 okay surge of power and then your 30 points of psychic damage Johan okay surge of power and then your blast launches out of your hands nearly destroying a shadow all of you in the dream so Ayla, Nova and Johan you gain another stack of corruption putting you all up to two and then
Starting point is 00:26:20 let's have Katie roll a d6 for me please I don't wanna Mark please roll a D6 for me, please. I don't want to, Mark. I don't want to. Please roll a four. Two. It's a two. Oh, no.
Starting point is 00:26:31 The dragon, the next chain, now both wings completely free, held down by only one powerful chain remaining. The second wing now completely free as the dragon begins to writhe and spin its body around trying to break free um alias hello can i um can i get up onto the wing am i yes so this dragon so in the dream whilst the dragon in the real world is kind of thrashing around and trying to break free, the dragon in the dream, its wings are kind of lowered to the ground,
Starting point is 00:27:08 its body hugging as close to the ground as possible with both claws kind of covering its head, reaching up towards its mind. So you can run up the wing, basically. I would like to run up the wing. With some saving throw. I'm going to remember this before I make you roll anything else. It's a fail. I didn't get you roll anything else. It's a fail.
Starting point is 00:27:25 I didn't get a 20, so therefore it's a fail. Yeah, that's basically how it goes down. Oh, it's quite low damage, though. 20 points of damage. Ah, quite low damage. Hey, it's better than 37 or whatever I just did to Johanna. Ow. Yeah.

Starting point is 00:28:02 So I got a 19 on the first one, which is my highest. So 19 plus 12 and then 10 plus 12 for the second one didn't get that 20 um so for the first one uh while you roll and work this out katie johan you would have had the option to send everybody back once you destroyed the first one i'm assuming you were like yeah we're good fight this i'm gonna wait till we hit that one, yeah. I'm holding that thought in my mind. So, 17 on the first hammer blow, plus an extra 3.
Starting point is 00:28:35 As the hammer connects, lightning explodes and whatever threads were containing this nightmare evaporate. Sending it to wherever it came. Johan, you have the option of returning everyone to the material
Starting point is 00:28:49 plane. Is Aayla going to get returned on top of the dragon that's thrashing about? Maybe. Let's do it. Bam. You feel yourselves all thrown back into the material plane. Aayla, you do end up where you are,
Starting point is 00:29:05 which is on the dragon's back, as it is beginning to kind of thrash around. Make a... Make a... Acrobatics check for me. Acrobatics? Yeah. Keep you balanced.
Starting point is 00:29:21 I don't get my athletics prowess. No, it's just different skills. Like, ac acrobatics if you were climbing up the dragon it'd be athletics keeping your balance is acrobatics yeah you still manage to keep your balance like as the dragon shifts and moves around you've kind of grabbed like a spine like a spike coming out of its back and you're holding on
Starting point is 00:29:40 as it thrashes sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry you still have an attack would you like to do anything? Would you like to hit the dragon maybe? I don't think I want to hit the dragon I think I'm on the back next to the
Starting point is 00:29:55 bit that's being healed, right? Can I see how much is left to heal? There's still some corruption left Not much, but still some Okay, I think I'm just gonna stick it out on the back of the dragon and try and be there to pull the shard out
Starting point is 00:30:11 if and when that happens. Lucius. Can I stabilize myself? Can I hunker down and stabilize myself by that shard? That's your acrobatics check. That's basically what you are doing. Cool. Lucius. You don't have any corruption, do you?

And it's huge. Like, this dragon, this sort of here on his snoot. Yeah. So, yeah, and it's huge. Like, this dragon's... This is the largest dragon you've seen. It's larger than the one that you saw in Korsari. In the, you know,
Starting point is 00:37:54 the Dragon General. You manage to kind of have to, like, almost climb up it, yeah, with one hand on, like, a giant horn, and you can see it still thrashing around. And this giant kind of, yeah, jagged shard is just embedded in its eye and its face is all torn up on the side.
Starting point is 00:38:09 You can see all the corruption spread around. Okay, I'm going to use 20 Lay on Hands points and just pull them into the dragon's eye. Okay, 20 points. You see that, you know, not quite half, but a large chunk of the corruption is burnt away just as you channel the power of the Matrix in. Did you have corruption at the start of this turn?

Starting point is 00:40:06 Johan collapses to the ground, the black mist hissing out of him. And you see that unlike before, he doesn't just vanish. This time he just collapses to the ground, weakened. And as Johan hits the ground and falls unconscious, the dragon lets out an immense roar and begins kind of thrashing and kind of pulling against its one remaining chain.

Starting point is 00:40:43 the floors, and across the dragon itself, begins charging. Ayla? Can I pull the shard out of its back, please? Easily. Unlike Century, with your strength of 25, you just reach down and just one solid movement, just lift it up and throw it. It begins turning to dust immediately

Starting point is 00:52:44 It just seems to... It feels like a powerful wind current. I mean, it hasn't done anything yet. You can feel it's building in power. Oh, right, okay. I don't really know what to do. You can just stand in it and wait and see. Stand in it.

Starting point is 00:53:57 when you've, when you touch like guardian matrixes, you kind of felt this immense magical presence and kind of connected with them when you touch this dragon a similar effect takes place you see flashes almost memories glimpses this being is not just a dragon it is magical it is a a thing beyond just a creature. It is an element. This isn't just a storm dragon. This is a storm in the form of a dragon.
Starting point is 00:54:30 This is primordial. This is ancient. Siasca created it. You see memories of flying high above Arois, bringing rain and wind and storms sometimes. Not through malice or cruelty, but simply because that is what it is. It came to rest on the temple, protect it. It came to fight against Calus, to protect the people of the land with its power.
Starting point is 00:55:06 The war, the battles were brutal. And then its last painful memory is not a woman, but a thing. The torso of a woman with great, a great metal headdress, giant demonic wings, and then the long body of a serpent, battling against it high in the air, a trident in her hand. She stepped back and there was a brief moment in the battle where the dragon thought they had won,
Starting point is 00:55:39 when the trident split apart and the three shards embedded into it, one into the face, one into its back, one into its side. And just madness took over. You kind of pull back as you feel this kind of corruption. This lingering connection
Starting point is 00:55:57 with Siasco and with Erois still lingering there. I'd probably utilize that and just reinforce the points I made saying, we're removing what she's done to you. It's almost over. Sure. Kelek.
Starting point is 00:56:15 So the magical glowy circle, is that still charged? That vanished. That vanished at the end of the round. The unfortunate initiative timing. You watch as it just vanishes. Yeah. With everyone with their hand on the dragon,
Starting point is 00:56:30 I want to fly down with the most radiant overkill burst of healing onto this shard, saying, For the mercy of Merskir and by Hesper's grace, I banish Zarkira from your mind. Let the storm rage on. And I'll heal the shard at level 5.

Starting point is 00:57:07 blackened corruption around the wound, around the face is burnt away as Quill's words echo through the chamber and his radiant healing spreads through its body Aayla with immense strength pulls pulling the shard free
Starting point is 00:57:23 throwing it to the side as it disintegrates in dust and you see the flesh beginning to knit back together the dark gray fog around the walls and above you that has been raging begins to evaporate diminishing pulling, suddenly rushed up in towards the sky as clear skies begin to form. Johan, would you like to say goodbye? Aww! Yeah.
Starting point is 00:57:58 I'm going to look up at Quill and I'm going to say, you just finished your last trial. All of you did. And I'm say, you just finished your last trial. All of you did. And I'm proud of you. And as that happens, storm out. You see Johan's form sort of dissipates and then seems to be pulled back in to the dragon itself
Starting point is 00:58:22 as one eye blue grey kind of blinks open deep laboured breath at last Yohandrius awakes from the nightmare.
Starting point is 00:58:48 Goddammit! I don't speak Ukrainian! Amazing! You see the dragon turns. I require great rest. But now I am free to continue my protection.
Starting point is 00:59:17 Champion of Hesper, High Priest of the Sky and the Winds and of Magic, carry me with you, and I shall aid you. The dragon seems to turn into cloud as it pulls back up into the sky itself, but left in its place, hovering. A long, slender spear with a crackling blue gemstone and set into the head. A storm brewing inside of it just hovers in place and then drifts towards Quill's body, just kind of expecting to be taken up.
Starting point is 01:00:02 Oh. Thank you, Johan. And yeah, I'll grab the spear. Okay. As you do, you feel the power flowing from it. I have not made it yet, but you may add it
Starting point is 01:00:18 when you need to. This will be called the Spear of Oracles and I will tell you immediately what it does. I need to make it so it's not available yet it will give you plus 2 to range to spell attacks
Starting point is 01:00:35 and plus 2 to the DC of your spells What? That's also as a bonus action, Kelek, you can create a phantom image of your future self the image appears as an illusory creature within five feet of you it moves with you it cannot be harmed and it cannot be mistaken as a real creature but as long as the phantasm is real as summoned it can concentrate on a separate spell.
Starting point is 01:01:06 You may now concentrate on two spells. Holy hell. I knew he'd amazing. Oh my God. Damn. You can also, as a reaction, you can basically send the phantom to aid an ally when they are hit or they fail a saving throw,
Starting point is 01:01:24 which means that they automatically save on the saving throw or causes the attack to miss. But once you use it, that feature can't be used for 24 hours and the phantasm is gone. So the future phantom is gone. So it's like a hit team. You're very welcome.
Starting point is 01:01:39 There is also an additional effect that I'm going to talk to Tom Hazel about separately. Because only he would know about it. But with that, we will end today's episode of High Rollers.
