Pickaxe. links in chat and there's been a lot of spamming of that stuff yeah but that's why we're playing it it's sponsored by steamforged thank you very much for letting us play it but with that said in our
game so far you have awoken uh you have fought six die six undead dudes two of you have died
and that's where we are um you've got on a key you've unlocked the courtyard yeah you spoke to
a creepy guy very very Dark Souls.
The bonfire where we started,
we also can't use to level up
because you pulled a broken short sword out.
Yeah.
So we're trying to find the next one.
Sometimes it's like, you play with somebody,
it's my first time running a game for Tom,
and he's like, I wanna pull the sword out of this bonfire.
I was like, absolutely, Ken.
I'm not gonna say no,
but man, they're gonna be consequent.
Technically, shouldn't it be a coiled sword?
Is it always a coiled sword, though?
For it to be a bonfire.
Is it always a coiled sword?
It has to be.
Well, not this one. This is a starting bonfire.
This is an off-brand bonfire.
This is a shitty bonfire.
But also, I've got 150 souls.
Gutter has 175, and then 200 for the rest.
And I will tell you... I don't know if that's enough to level up.
Would you like to know how much it is to level up?
Yeah. Yeah, absolutely.
I can tell you that it is. Get past all these spells and things.
I'm pretty sure it's 300 for level 2.
300? And you spend it. So once you spend it, that's gone, those 300.
We have to kill two plebs. A couple of plebs.
A couple of plebies.
And then I think the next level is 900 for level three.
Wow, okay.
But also, I will say this,
you guys have played Dark Souls and Kim's watched it.
I will tell you now, there might have been some souls,
like item souls that you can find as well.
Shit, the broken pots in the first room.
We never checked those.
Fuck.
Why did we not loot stuff?
We could turn back rooms.
I mean, it's right there.
We're just down the corridor.
It might have been those zones.
It might have been the other room.
It might have been, maybe if you killed the weird guy.
I feel like we'd see that white glow, right?
That would be a highlighted item.
What's your passive perception?
It would be so obvious. My passive... 11.
Uh, passive perception's 11. Yeah.
No.
I don't even know. No.
Well, mine's 11 as well. There you go.
All of us is 11, yeah.
Oh yeah, I can't even find it on the thing.
There it is. If you want to go back, yeah.
I mean, like, yeah, no, no. It's right next to us.
It's right there, right? You want to go search the pots?
Also, like, we could sit... I don, right? You wanna go search the pots? Also, like, we could sit on those pots.
I don't wanna go back and search the pots.
I'm gonna go to the flaming tapestry and pull it down.
Okay, all right, so Wakefield goes back
and he starts pulling tapestries down.
Yeah, you pull them down, nothing, nothing behind them.
Yeah, you just pull them down.
They're ripping your hands.
This is no clothes.
I just wanna be sat at the bottom of the steps.
I'm not going back inside.
Trimming my toenails with a broken sword.
Nick.
Like bonfire sword.
Yeah, really.
Yeah.
They're so long, the toenails.
Oh God.
They're just disgusting.
Are you sitting at the bottom of the stairs?
Or at the top of the stairs?
They were going down, weren't they? Yeah, the bottom. Why not? You wouldn't sit at the top of the stairs yeah the bottom why not yeah you want to sit at the top of
the stairs no it's just so i can describe the courtyard okay i'm not paying attention to the
courtyard until people come back i want to sit down and start hacking and coughing loudly
and just oh coughing loudly yeah oh just just causing an absolute mess oh brilliant
right what the what the rest of you doing?
This is perfectly normal.
Just watching Lord Wakefield just pull tapestries down
and punch a few more walls, I don't know.
Swinging his sword at every wall,
trying to see if it's an illusion.
I imagine the clerics just dive rolling down the corridor.
I'll walk down the stairs slowly.
I will try to sense the presence of the good flame.
I don't know where the good flame is.
Dong.
Who could be the loudest?
So we've got the cleric and gutter down at the bottom of the stairs.
Sure.
You guys are surprised.
What? Whataaaat?
What?
Okay.
So with advantage, that's going to be a 17 to hit you, Mr. Cleric.
Yeah.
With what?
Two seven points of position damage as an arrow from the other battlements.
As you can see, skeletal archers drawn by the sound of coughing in a gong.
Shit.
I ran out of miniatures.
It's like three skeleton archers and a cool...
It's Arbor from Arrows.
But yeah, he's there.
Yeah, an arrow kind of thuds out.
I'm going to make a text for all of them, not against just you.
Gutter, that's an 18 to hit.
Yeah, that's a hit.
That's going to be six points of position damage.
That's a natural one
to hit you with a second one.
And then gutter, that's going to be a
11. That's a hit.
Have you got your shield equipped?
I don't feel like I would. I'm cutting my toenails.
That's going to be four points.
So that's 11 in total.
I think so.
I'm dead.
Dark Souls, my guy.
Yeah, well, you find yourself spawning.
In the room that you're tearing down the tapestry.
Can I search the pots that
didn't end up getting searched now i respawned yeah so well he's in a corridor just outside
that room i mean i'll walk back in with the tapestry just assume i'm gonna be dead sometime
soon i will say this when you search the pots uh you do find hidden amongst the broken shards of pot there is a faint
like you kind of find like this very gentle kind of glowing embers hidden
amongst all the shadows and it is the soul of a desecrated corpse if you were
to use it it is worth 200 XP but you do lose your 175 when you died Oh also roll a d20
I rolled a 2
Oh 2
Wait did he say 2 was a good one?
I don't know
One is really bad
One is mega bad
Probably
You probably have this
Your flesh withers
Your skin tightens on your bones
mummifying even as you watch
Lose 2 from your charisma permanently.
So this is the thing that you asked about.
This is the holiday.
Yay.
Yep.
So your charisma is two lower, so you get a minus one to anything.
You dehydrated again.
So, yeah, down to 11 charisma.
Down to 11.
Still more charismatic than most people.
Yeah, absolutely.
I'm going to take my swords back from him now.
Okay. Whilst you do that, let's roll some people. Most people. Yeah, absolutely. I'm going to take my swords back from him now. Whilst you do that, let's roll some initiatives.
I mean, yeah, I guess I'm in combat, right?
Okay.
Oh, 14.
I'm not in this combat.
Because I died.
Aren't you unprepared as well?
You had like minus to your initiative from the last time you died.
Minus one to the initiative.
I mean, roll initiative anyway, because you just died, but you're in the same room with these assuming you'll jump back in like do all of these cool boys still get
a bus 20 for initiative yeah all these debuffs yeah all the stacks yeah yeah yeah absolutely
oh god okay uh so 20 for initiative yes you are fast that means you're going before the monsters
uh 14. 14. you are also going before the monsters,
Lord Wakefield.
What about Sir Jolly Initiative?
Eight.
You are slow, you're going after the monsters.
And then Dex build.
Eight.
You are last as well, Dex build.
Cool.
So you are after the monsters.
So the two people who aren't anywhere near,
who are in the chamber, another chamber,
you two get to decide who goes,
you get to pick the order of it.
But yeah, you hear, well, you saw an arrow,
two arrows fly out and murder you.
An arrow hit me, surprise, look up, second arrow.
Dead.
Just for, so you guys are like here.
Yeah, so the room you started in is here.
The room that you went around the corner is above this keep area.
So imagine that these are stairs leading up.
So the corridor kind of leads around there.
You guys are in the starting room here. I didn't put it on the map.
I think you were like...
You're literally just a few stories away.
So Guy was in a room...
Above the main keep.
Pretty centrally?
Yes, there was a tower there.
Okay.
My lord, I've got a shot.
I think we can flank them though.
What have you got in mind?
Follow me and just start running towards the room with Gryon, the creepy guy.
Yeah.
I will fold.
If you guys dash there, you get to the room with him.
He's just like,
oh, here again are you?
Kind of thing.
Right, mate.
He opens the door.
He starts opening the door for you
and then you can do that.
Right, the monsters,
they only have one target now.
Yeah.
I've got three position left.
And what's your AC?
13. All right. Nine what's your AC? 13.
All right.
Nine or higher.
18.
That's five points of position.
I'm dead.
You die.
Oh, my God.
All right.
11.
Oh, Jesus.
So very much like the game as well The adventures are built around
If you just run into stuff blind
You're probably going to get shot to death
If I survived that round
I was going to be zigzag dodge rolling
Across the court
What was your roll?
11
11
Dismal
Any joy or laughter you use to retain
Is entirely gone.
Reduce your starting charisma score by minus one.
Minus one, all right.
I've been so jolly before.
So jolly.
I don't laugh at the end of my sentences.
I'm not a Dark Souls character.
No, you sigh.
That's another laugh.
You miserable soul.
They don't have another target
because Ser Jolly's still up in the corridor.
So these archers are just like...
Just de-aggro, just go back to pacing.
I think at this point, yeah,
we will basically have them de-aggro
and you guys are out of initiative.
But we'll just reroll when you get into it.
Either that or they just take the shortest route to us together.
They definitely don't seem to be following.
They remain up there.
But we'll leave them up there so you guys know.
All right.
I just love that Sojolly just took one look out of this,
was like, oh, I'm about to go through, you know.
Everyone dies.
You weren't even warned about the archers.
You were.
You were specifically warned about the archers.
Wakefield and Gutt just go running past.
Like, do you say anything to me
or am I just like stood there like?
Oh yeah.
Come with us.
Okay.
Bring that shield.
I'd be useful.
Okay, okay.
In which case I'll go.
Just as they're running,
I'll just be walking behind them just like, yeah.
Sure.
You just shrugged to Gryon.
He's like, what's going on?
Just like, it's me again.
All right.
The two of us are just...
So you guys, whilst Greon is kind of unbarricading the door,
do you want to catch up and join up with everyone?
Well, I just hope you guys will join up.
I come out of my loading screen and no one is around.
Greon removes his barricades on the opposite door and opening it, it leads to a section of the castle walls that have long been broken,
but someone has built two ramshackle bridges to cross the rubble and fallen stone instead.
And on the other side of these two ramshackle bridges, you can see a tower, what looks to be like a guard tower on the corner of the castle walls.
Does it look like connecting to that tower would connect up to where the arches are?
Yes, yes.
You can see, in fact, from this doorway,
we'll say that the arches are currently looking at where you guys were,
so they don't spot you kind of like looking out.
But yeah, if you cross these ramshackle bridges,
if you make too much noise, those arches are going to know where you are
and they're going to be able to shoot upon you from here.
So it's like an open space between the space,
and then you have a guard tower that joins up to that battlement wall.
Okay.
I'll swap to one sword and a shield right now.
How far away are they?
They are within bow range, so like 70, 80 feet.
Oh, okay, so not like get there in one turn.
No, you would have to cross these ramshackle bridges,
keeping in mind these are not very safe-looking bridges.
This is like, you know, you're going to have to either go carefully
or, you know, jump or whatever it is going to be.
And then there is a tower.
The doorway is open.
It looks like there was once a door on this tower,
but it's long since been broken down,
and it leads into a dark, you can't really see inside,
guard tower with, like like arrow slits and stuff
cool spring all right i'll go for it don't forget to refill your hp and ss fasts for those of you
who died as well yeah don't worry i went from full health to no health that's all you've been
correct didn't even get it yeah uh yeah like man run kind of low okay so. Okay, so as soon as Gutter steps out,
I need you to make an acrobatics skill check.
So if you don't have a bonus, it's just dexterity.
Cool.
So this is to cross the first one.
It's a seven.
I was going to say, if you're running as well,
that would be at disadvantage,
so you would roll twice, take the lowest.
Ooh, it's a six.
It's a six.
So the first time you fail, so Gutter, you go to run out,
and immediately one of the boards breaks,
you fall prone,
you hear the skeletons hear the snap of wood
and look that way.
But basically to continue,
you would need to make another acrobatics check
to stand up from prone and continue on.
If you fail this one, you're probably gonna fall.
It's fine.
It's fine. Ooh oh it's a 13 uh a uh 15 15 yeah so you
managed to kind of like pick yourself up keep in balance not falling off um but there is one more
bridge to go and that's also going to be initiative because these skeletons are now very aware of where
you are nice i think i'm going first. Oops. Seven.
Right. So we have Gutter is slow
so you're going after the monsters.
I'm sure.
That is a 20.
20. Wakefield is fast. He's going
before the monsters. Jolly.
18. Also going before the monsters.
And you 16. 16. Also
before the monsters.
So the three of you
watching from inside Greon's secured room, you You 16. 16, also before the monsters. So the three of you,
watching from inside Greon's kind of like secured room,
you watch Gutter run out, immediately trip,
slam onto the ladder, make a loud noise.
He does manage to kind of like pick himself up and he's now balancing on this thing.
But you see the archers like...
And they start pulling their bows back.
Yeah, all right.
I mean, we're all like going to be sprinting across this thing, right?
If you run its disadvantage on the acrobatics, if you take your time and just move normally,
then it's a...
I'm going to take my time and move normally.
You do have a minus one.
But I'd also like to spend two position to increase my AC by plus four for one round.
Okay, yeah.
So I kind of imagine using my shield to kind of very slowly and methodically just walk out.
Well, give me an acrobatics check then.
Remember you have a minus one to this
because you're a knight's armor.
15, 16, 17.
Well, I've got plus two on the dex,
but then so 17 minus one is 16.
16 is enough.
So you make your way over the first one.
You kind of move over gutter or like around gutter you make your way to the midpoint so you and
gutter are now at the midpoint of these two broken bridges. Can I help gutter up? Yeah yeah you I mean he's already getting up anyway. Thank you brave knight.
But you're kind of holding your shield out in front of you and you currently have
plus 4 AC right? Yeah. Until the whole turn. Alright so weight field and
dex build. Is this a dex save or a dex check?
This is an acrobatic so it's a dex check. Okay okay damn I'm still gonna sprint across this bridge.
Disadvantage. So that's 16, 16, 18 and 18. 18, yeah.
I mean, you sprint and with the sprint,
you can get across both bridges, right?
That's the point of running fast.
You dash over, kind of leaping over the knight,
you kind of like parkour in a cool way,
sliding down like Legolas in the two towers.
Over, over, got his back as he's getting up to it.
Nice.
And yeah, you arrive on the other side
into what appears to be a kind of barracks.
This tower used to house the soldiers
and knights stationed at the castle.
There is a, you go through the broken door,
there are a couple of beds, a wooden chest,
a wooden set of stairs leading down,
and then another open archway
leading out onto the bafflements.
You now also, from this presence,
you hear the sound of heavily armoured footsteps below you.
I just need to maybe get another monster.
Is there like stairs in this room?
Is that something's about to plop those stairs?
That's certainly the impression you're getting, yes.
Oh, I just saw the picture.
I shouldn't have done that.
Yes, you did.
Yeah, I did. So that was your movement to kind of dash across. Do you want to take an action?
Can I like push a bed onto the stairs to kind of barricade the stairs?
Sure, sure, sure, sure, sure. Make a strength check for me.
I'm not great at that.
14.
You can spend position if you'd like to increase ability. I will spend two positions to make it 16.
Just enough.
So you manage to grab one of these wooden beds
and you kind of push and shove it,
manage to get it over to the side,
and it does tumble down.
And you glimpse down as you do so
to see a very polished silver helm of an armoured figure like beginning to make
their way up the stairs drawing a blade and a shield.
What colour is the armour?
Silver.
Okay.
Yeah.
Dark Souls boys are like, pffft.
Oh fuck.
That's shit in my pants.
He doesn't have like a fucking great bow or anything,
does he?
Has one on his back.
Yeah.
Oh.
He's got a sword and shield out,
but on his back has a giant two great bow.
Okay.
Can I just, as an interaction,
just go back to two-handed swords?
You can, yeah, if you wanna put your shield away
and draw two swords.
I put away my shield.
I mean, the archers can't see me in here, can they?
No, well, there is open way.
They could, in theory, like move into this room,
but they would have to use melee weapons to fight.
Okay, okay.
Yep, I'd do that.
Yeah, your bigger threat is that thing coming up the stairs.
Yep.
All right, next build.
If I play it safe,
can I get to the archers on the next turn
with just a regular move,
or do I have to like...
No, so regular move will get you halfway.
Next regular move gets you, or like another move gets you the next way i don't like no so it's i've got no souls so like i'm just gonna sprint yeah check my confidence uh sure so acrobatics
check with disadvantage yeah well you step out on that first ramp shackle bridge the same thing
right like you lose your balance you fall prone prone. Yeah, what's your foot?
Oh, my dog's a blank out.
I fall through the same hole.
So you can now spend your action to try and get up
and make another acrobatics check to get up from prone.
Yeah, yeah.
Because otherwise all attacks against you have advantage.
Yeah.
14, is that with disadvantage again or?
No, it's just normal.
15 then. 15, yeah.
You managed to kind of pick yourself up, not falling off.
Because if you would, you would fall 20, like 20-ish, 25 feet down into the courtyard.
And you would take falling damage if you did.
But you managed to pick yourself up.
So the three of you, so we have Dex build, Sir Jolly, and Gutter,
all on like a middle platform, like a big piece of broken steel.
Behind a mega shield.
Well, yeah.
It's my shield. It's definitely some cover. shield. Well, yeah. It's my shield.
It's definitely some cover.
It's huge though.
It's pretty big.
And then we have Lord Wakefield in the barracks tower.
Do you want to just move yourself across
into like that little gap so we know where you are?
So what, am I over here?
Like in that corner.
Oh, this corner?
Yeah, imagine that there's a room there.
Okay, okay.
Okay.
The monsters get to go.
We'll do the archers first,
because that's a lot easier for me to worry about.
Four ranged attacks.
I will have most of them go into Sir Jolly,
and, yeah, we'll just do it that way,
because at the moment, like, you're presenting,
you're kind of covering the others and stuff like that.
You need a 22 to hit.
22.
That's going to miss.
That is going to be a 22 to hit. 22. That's going to miss. That is going to be a 23 to hit.
So five points of damage as one arrow does slip through.
The next one is a miss.
And the next one is just barely going to miss at 21.
So your shield defense managing to kind of like cover the other two
as this hail of arrows comes flying in.
But now that they see, okay, it's probably better we try and shoot cover the other two as this hail of arrows comes flying in. But now that they see, okay,
it's probably better we try and shoot at the other two.
Like their first volley is directed at you,
but the next volley won't be.
Meanwhile, Lord Wakefield,
this armored figure makes their way up the steps
and they're just going to try and barrel their way through
this barricade that you have constructed.
I hope they don't know they can just roll through furniture.
Yeah, yeah, didn't think about that.
It's cool but it's one of those ones you can't roll into.
Okay.
It feels so bad when you get the enemies who can drink Esther's flasks and do the same
things you do.
Jesus Christ, their damage.
Okay, so he's just going to try and cleave through the bed, basically.
He's going to try and smash through it.
So that's going to be a hit.
I mean, the bed crumbled the moment it hit.
Well, you.
Still rolling.
Wait, how many?
Four, five.
Oh, my God.
66.
66 plus something.
He rolled a bunch of fives and sixes as well.
Yeah.
In one blow, this sword comes smashing out and splits the bed in two,
and then it just stomps through the rest of it,
drawing up next to you, Sir Wakefield.
He must have stood speed.
He has two attacks, so he will make a second attack against you
for a 18 to hit that hits six seven eight nine I'm dead
that's in 16 points of damage. I'm dead.
And just impales you on a sword.
And that was super low rolls as well.
Was he two handing that?
That was one handed.
What was his max damage there?
66.
What did he actually roll?
16.
Okay, yeah. Even if I was full health I was dead.
Yeah, I mean, yeah. I would have Okay, yeah. Even if I was full health, I was dead. Yeah.
Yeah.
I mean, yeah.
I would have died, yeah.
Yep.
So do we see this through the open doorway?
We just see a sword and then you fall back with it.
Does he all sit there?
A sword go through him.
Well, the bad news for you guys is you see this silver knight figure stepping up to the
doorway and is beginning to put away their sword and pull out a giant bow
well that is their turn gutter it's your turn you're the only one on after the monsters so
we're on like a more solid platform like a stone platform in between these two ramshackle bridges
okay imagine like some of the walls crumbled away but some of it has remained enough to stand on.
You guys save yourselves! Oh god it literally is him.
Oh my god that's actually a silver knight.
I want to kind of like run onto this platform, the next bit of the bridge,
and with my club and sword,
try and like smash it.
Okay.
Destroy the, yeah, like make it so it,
the super ramshackle thing.
Whilst you're on it.
Yeah.
Okay.
Like I am jumping and I am like doing as much as I can
to physically break it.
You do it, you're going to fall.
Yeah.
Like that's the cost, right?
Is he on the bridge as well?
No, he stood at the doorway,
but like he could easily just step out onto it and start fighting,
but he's pulled his bow out.
But yeah, you watch as Gutter like jumps up and down,
smashes his club and his broken sword.
The bridge collapses.
You're going to fall down into the courtyard,
taking only three points of damage.
And then you land into the courtyard at the bottom of sort of like,
yeah, put yourself in this corner.
Yeah, prone.
And yeah, you just slide down the rubble,
slam down into the courtyard.
But yeah.
Anything else?
You got some movement left, if you would like.
You could try and stand up or you could crawl.
Yeah, I guess like, can I try and now make myself a bit more...
There is actually a doorway in front of you actually. I know this is splitting the party considerably but there is a wooden door
from this courtyard leading into where the skeletons are on the bafflements. There must be like a corridor or a room underneath it.
There's a wooden door in there.
Well I guess with club and sword,
just kick that door open and...
Step in.
Just step inside.
Yeah.
So what you find in there is...
The hallway seems to stretch.
It seems to connect the lower room of the tower
where that knight was in
and the lower part of the gate tower
that you were trying to get to.
It's like a long corridor that stretches between them.
It retains some of its former glory.
Three grand archways built into the corridor, each carved with effigies of knights holding
aloft a banner with a heron holding a torch and different numbers of swords on each archway.
The eastern arch has two swords, the centre has four swords, and the western arch has
three swords. There are metal sconces bolted into the walls with has four swords, and the western arch has three swords.
There are metal sconces bolted into the walls with thick iron plates, but the torches are long since spent.
Little flavour for you.
But yeah, so we now go back to the top of the round, which is the rest of the players before the monsters go.
I'm dead. You're dead, you respawn at the bonfire.
For this purpose's razz, we're just going to keep you here until this combat is finished.
That's fine. I got an 11.
Oh you got, yes, which I believe is the, I think you had an 11, didn't you?
14.
I had 14, I think there was an 11 before.
Was that the one that was like nothing or was that a 14?
Probably.
You're a wrinkly boy.
Wrinkly boy.
11. Dismal, yeah.
Any joy or laughter is gone.
Reduce your charisma by minus one.
Rich laugh.
Gone.
Okay, I'm a sigh boy now.
I sigh.
I just sigh.
So jolly.
And Dexfield, the two of you stare.
I'm gonna start making that noise.
Beep, beep, beep.
And just back the fuck up
Make an acrobatics check you gotta get over this ramshackle bridge
Oh that'll be a six
Six you fall prone
You land on that you are still on the bridge, but you are prone you can use your action to stand up
It's another acrobatics check
I will try and stand up
It's cocked
That's cocked, but it's close a one, but that was cocked.
That's cocked. That's an 11.
You fall. 12 is what you needed. You fall.
So you're going to land next to gutter. That's 10 positions.
Wait, are you dead?
I'm dead.
I'll get the table!
Can I have it so that I trip as I back up, like maybe over Dexter's head.
I trip, fall backwards and land on my sword.
Yeah.
When you get the, what is it, when you fall off and it's like, ahhh!
Well you look like you're about to step in the same hole we just fell into so I push
you.
I'm just i'm just
like sat at the bonfire one one knee up with my hand on my knee because i know what's coming nice
atrophy your muscles start to fail you you reduce your strength by one oh no that's my
most beautiful you said there were bonuses in here mark there bonuses, you just haven't got any. Yeah. Alright, well, on my turn...
You want to come down as well? I mean, I've got a plan.
Okay. Can I get, if I was, is this bridge, this now broken bridge, jumpable?
Yeah, it's still jumpable, yeah. And with that jump, would I be able to slink
behind, dodge roll behind this silver
knight you can try i'm going to try i'm going to try and jump over there
that's not it but sure yeah yeah so this is athletics or strength um
so if you don't have an athletic explainer just use your strength modifier
seven absolutely no i'll uh wait you can can't position I'm definitely boosting
this okay I couldn't didn't hear what you said did you say it was enough I
said it was not enough good in that case I'm gonna boost it by you can go pray
high on this six so that would give you a total of seven thirteen thirteen I
would say thirteen is just enough to jump this gap.
It's not too far.
You have like a little bit of a running start.
There is like a lip,
but you're probably like on the very edge,
and this knight is right in front of you with a bow,
and it kind of looks at you.
Its steely gaze turns to you.
Dodge rolling, dodge rolling, dodge rolling, dodge rolling.
Get behind it.
Yeah. I want to use...
No attack of opportunity so far.
I want to use Force No attack of opportunity so far. I want to use force.
Oh!
Nice.
So he makes a dex save of 11.
I imagine his dex is super high,
but if he fails, he still gets pushed 10 feet.
His dex is not very high.
That's a 10.
Ooh!
So that's a fail. Great, yeah, it's a fail.
So he gets pushed back 10 feet in a straight line
and is prone.
Yeah, and that would probably put him like,
yeah, in the hole.
Oh God.
But I mean, fall damage, at least,
I mean, in the game, does a lot of damage.
Five points of position.
I thought it would do more.
But he is prone.
He is prone.
Yeah, Gutter, you hear a
KADONG CLANG!
And you look behind you and this knight is laying down.
Okay.
The wooden door behind you does look like
there is like a crossbar or something
that you could try and bar it with.
Wait, didn't you destroy the door to get in here?
I know you just kicked it.
I kicked the door in.
Yeah.
Nice. Well, okay. Well, that's, so you done kicked the door in. Yeah. Nice.
Well, okay.
Well, that's...
So, you done?
Yeah, that's me.
That's movement and action.
Oh, right.
Okay.
So, we go to the monsters.
The Silver Knight is going to stand up.
This has been a hot mess.
I think it's definitely proving that, like,
you need to be quite careful and tactical and everything else.
The Silver Knight is going to stand up,
turn, seize gutter there,
and he's going to try a piercing strike.
I spend three position.
The Silver Knight doubles its to hit bonus on a single weapon attack.
Double its bonus.
Let's go, Goddard. Let's go. That's going to be 16 to hit. Yeah, that's to hit bonus on a single weapon attack
That's gonna be 16 to hit yeah, that's that's a hit
Seven life if you roll any one of these I die well
16 plus three I You're dead. Yeah, I die.
I'll just come over here.
And the knight continues its move.
It's only got half movement.
It steps into where you were and then turns into the bottom half of the tower it was in.
There's like a doorway leading in there.
So I can hear it like down the stairs again.
You can hear it down the stairs.
I got a 15.
15.
Man knowledge, Tom. Come on, you must know this.
I mean, I didn't see the door.
Well, yeah, you didn't go down there. Why would you know?
Traps, don't need to worry about those.
Madness, poison.
It comes up, I roll behind him.
What did we get on the 15?
Murmur, you have returned,
but something is lodged in your mind from beyond.
A voice is in your head now, whispering strange thoughts.
Ooh. Oh good, another one.
Where's the good ones?
Um... 16 is a good one. Nearly got a good one.
All right.
We'll see.
We'll see when I have a good one.
Ooh, four's really good.
Oh yeah? Yep. I've got like a turn when I have a lead. Ooh, four's really good.
Oh yeah?
Yep.
I've got like a turn until I have to roll again.
Well, no, you don't have a full turn because those four skeletal arches pull out scimitars
and come running back to the castle.
There's four arches there, guys?
Yeah, and they see that there's no more threats in front of them, but they do hear that something
has like jumped into the tower.
A lot of clanging around over there. Four
skeletons run in, and they're
going to make attacks against you. Yeah.
Six. That's a miss. Great.
Six is a miss. Hell yeah.
Fourteen
hits.
Son of a bitch.
I'm dead. Is that a white?
It's a white. Woo!
Roll back.
And I rolled 13. That can't be? It's a white. It's a white. Woo! Roll back. And I rolled 13.
That can't be good.
I don't think so.
No.
I think I should bookmark this paper.
Yeah, you're gonna bookmark for that paper
because we are dying a lot.
You ripped me off a piece of paper.
13.
It's getting dark.
The world is darker than it was.
Reduce your passive perception by one.
Oh, son of a... Okay.
Oh, my God.
Cool.
We return to the bonfire.
Could you read the beginning of the adventure again?
None of you have any souls.
You do have an item that has some souls.
I do.
Yeah.
And it was 200 as well.
Sorry, it was not a great plan.
It's okay.
But here, I have this. I pull it from the front of my loins, a little flame.
It's for you, my lord.
I'll just crush it in my hands.
No, you don't have to use it immediately. You save it until you're out of the bonfire.
Everybody gets 200 XP.
Everyone does.
Everyone, yeah, it's Shed.
Oh, everyone does.
Oh. Yeah. I think it was, I emailed Steamforged about it and they said Everyone, yeah, it's Shed. Oh, everyone does. Oh!
Yeah.
I think it was, I emailed Steamforged about it and they said you can either do it as Shed
or you could just do it per player.
It's up to the GM.
I'm going to make yours.
Yeah.
Crush it in my hand instantly.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Love it.
So wait, in terms of like the map that we know now, we know that in the courtyard.
Bad.
The silver knight is, I mean, he's back where he was he's back
he has reset his position so you know that there are four skeletons on the battlements
uh the silver knight is in the tower opposite the round of the stairs there's stairs leading up
though like exactly where we left in position to either one of those we know there's a door that
goes straight to him in a big corridor area but so the safest place so far is so the other thing you saw is underneath
where the arches were there was a wooden staircase that kind of goes up halfway through the batman's
and then turns into the upper floor of the the gate house there's a door that leads into that
we just need to not aggro the skeletons or you can kill the skeletons if you had ranged weapons
is the door in the to the upper gate house uh Whereabouts is the door to the upper gatehouse?
So there is a door.
So there's the...
Well, this is one gatehouse, and there's another gatehouse here.
The upper floor has a door connecting to these, like, wooden stairs.
Okay.
But the downstairs door seems to be blocked by rubble.
The other side, the other gate tower,
there is a door immediately from the stairs
that leads into the downstairs gatehouse.
I mean, as long as we don't go out there roaring and donging bells. Yes. there is a door immediately from the stairs that leads into the downstairs gatehouse.
I mean, as long as we don't go out there roaring and donging bells.
Yes, you definitely think that the distance is the sound that drew the skeleton.
I think you're donging your bell.
I ding, I dong.
Yeah, I mean, yeah, and then that's it. That's the map.
What if we just quietly walk onto the next tower?
I pray silence may be the best approach!
I would love
some silence, yes.
Or we could kill our friend and take his trinkets.
Which friend?
Well, we did say that
he wasn't
as tough as us,
so that's why he's sending us on this mission.
So, I guess...
If he has all these trinkets on him...
I guess we could do it.
But he's managed to stay safe while all of those things were out there.
But by barricading the doors.
All right, what about this?
We give him a shove through the door,
then that big archer fella, he does
the work for us.
I like it.
Or it draws the big archer fella towards us.
This is the first time you've all died, isn't it?
Yes.
Yeah, yeah.
What?
What?
What happened?
Nothing.
You don't know? You're all in the bonfire room.
Okay.
Oh shit. Wait, has the guys in the hallway come back?
Yeah.
Ah, okay.
But you've unlocked the door.
You don't have to go around the corner.
You could just go down into the courtyard now.
Let's go down into the courtyard.
I mean, I guess we could have a look, right?
We could just sneak a look if we stealth it, I suppose.
Cool. I run full pelt around the corner.
And then three seconds later, respawn back here.
I win.
I cross my swords off.
Yeah, so those mags that we killed earlier,
they seem to be back, everybody.
I do not recommend going back down there.
Roll your d20 again.
Roll your d20 again.
19 again, so I lose.
Another initiative.
Another initiative.
Oh my god, senses dull even more.
Okay.
Your ear appears to be hanging off.
Oh, I'll just pull it off.
Sticking it in somebody's loins.
Dabbing, dabbing with a bit of loincloth.
Yeah. Yeah. Everybody follow me, we must make for the gatehouse. I'm going to quietly walk behind him.
Quietly now.
So you're going to stomp down to this gatehouse, the one that's closest?
Yeah, down the stairs.
If I see those dudes look at me and point at me.
You don't need to make stumps.
As long as you're not making loud sounds like ringing bells or coughing loudly
The skeletons until you get out into like the main courtyard if you just come here, they won't notice
I do stop at one point and everything's looking so miserable. I sigh
Do I make a sigh check? See how loud it is? No, I'll get to the door. Okay. Yeah
This is a wooden door that leads into the lower half of...
This looks like it's beneath the room that you began in.
Like, the bonfire room looks like it's above this.
Oh, no, sorry, the room that was north of the bonfire room.
So you know there was that doorway you can go through.
It looks like it connects to that.
But this is just a simple wooden door.
Uh, yeah.
You can try it.
I don't...
It might be locked, you don't know?
Yeah, I'll give it a go.
It opens.
Great. Inside, this stone room contains scattered barrels, crates,
as well as a weapon rack and a wooden chest.
I roll into the barrel.
Yeah, we're all...
I'm just stood there like...
What?
What?
Is there a rule book?
Is there some rule to this hand that I don't...
I'm not getting here. Did I miss a memo? Um... Sorry.
Sorry.
Gutter looks like he's having a stroke.
So, you smash apart the barrels and crates. Nothing in those. There is a chest and a weapons rack.
Can I look at the chain next to the chest?
There is also a big spoked wheel with chains that connect to a part of the wall. and a weapons rack. Can I look at the chain next to the chest?
There is also a big spoked wheel with chains that connect to a part of the wall.
This looks like it's part of the portcullis control system.
Yeah, I mean, roll an investigation check.
19.
19.
You look at it.
There's something odd about that chain.
Yeah?
There's something... No, the. Yeah. There's something...
No, the chest you said, right?
The chest.
That's the telltale thing.
Yeah, it's fine.
The chain attached to the chest.
Yeah, yeah.
That's the right way, right?
When it's not a mimic, it's attached to the chest.
Well, it's kind of curved.
If it's fine, it trails off.
It's curved, then.
Why are we all looking at the chest?
Why are we not opening?
I don't know.
The voices in my head told me.
Yeah, the voices in your head.
Check the chain.
You've got backseaters.
The voices on the meta voices.
Yeah, exactly.
You've got backseat in-gamers in your mind.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
It's chat.
That's what it is.
I pull out an orange bar of soap,
and I write,
treasure ahead.
Nice.
What is the soap?
For Western travellers to find our path.
What travellers?
I'd like to open the chest, please.
Yeah, you open the chest.
I say out loud.
Did I put the treasure in the middle?
Okay, you can open the chest.
Thank you!
You open the chest and inside is...
a shield! You open the chest and you receive a shield.
Come on, baby.
Come on, find them.
Grasscrest.
Grasscrest, give me the Grasscrest.
Come on.
No, he's a cleric, he wants the...
I don't want it, but like...
He wants the casting shield.
Oh.
The miracle.
Oh, the one with the...
Yeah.
What's a good shield to give you.
Grass Crest.
Well, Grass Crest is...
Yeah, I want that anyway.
I don't want it for myself.
It's just a great shield.
It's good.
I also kind of want to see how it works in this.
Like, probably higher initiative, right?
I'm going to tell you something, Tom.
Can't see a Grass Crest shield.
What?
What?
What? So offended. How fucking dare you.
Ring of Clorency.
Is that what it's called?
Is that a fat one?
Clorency ring.
Oh, Grass Crest Shield.
Let's have a look.
There we go.
You know what?
Sure.
It's a Grass Crest Shield.
Fuck yeah.
The Grass Crest Shield.
Amazing.
I forgot as well, by the way, some shields are only plus one AC, which is why I think
your bonus says plus one for shield.
I think some shields are only plus one.
This is a plus two AC.
I think it's a plus two.
I think it's a plus two.
I think it's a plus two. I think it's a plus two. I think it's a plus two. I think it well, by the way, some shields are only plus one AC, which is why I think your bonus says plus one for shield.
Oh.
I think some shields are only plus one.
This is a plus two AC shield.
When using the Grass Crest Shield, once per long rest,
you may spend one position to restore plus one position to yourself
or to a friendly creature.
That's pretty good.
Strength 13.
Wait, hang on, plus one, wait.
So you spend one position to restore plus one position to yourself or to a friendly creature.
That is hot garbage.
You asked for the grass.
Compared to
my wooden shield, which gives
one position every turn.
But you can give it to somebody else.
One position to heal yourself, one.
I don't know.
Maybe there might be abilities
that you grant more position when you give up.
Oh wait, no, that's right.
Yeah.
Yeah, I think I have something.
If I heal someone, then I can increase it.
Well, that would count.
Yeah.
Okay.
Okay.
Um.
Anybody?
There is also a weapons rack which has what appears to be long swords, broads, two-handed
swords and stuff on it as well.
Am I allowed to touch the weapons rack
or do you need to all stare at it first?
Yeah, I'm gonna have to stare and look at the weapons rack.
Yeah, it's another investigation check.
I just wanna examine stuff.
Yeah, that's a 17.
17?
There's something about this weapons rack.
The voice is in your head.
I think there's something about this weapons rack.
Right.
Where it blends into the wall,
where it's the studs should be embedded into the wall,
they seem to almost blink.
Fuck it, I'm going to draw my weapons
and start just attacking the weapons rack.
Well, you have advantage because this is a surprise attack.
But as you do, yeah, the weapons rack. Well, you have advantage because this is a surprise attack. But as you do, yeah, the weapons rack,
the limbs of the weapons rack
kind of stretch out,
becoming these long spindly hands.
The swords actually morph into like a face.
These big legs come out.
And it is a mimic.
But you get a surprise round.
Oh, it laughs like you.
Go, go, go. I told you I had experience with mimics. And it is a mimic. But you get a surprise round. Oh, it laughs like you.
I told you I had experience with mimics.
It was one in this room.
Yeah.
You can have that. I tried to fake you out by making it not the chest,
but you're too smart.
Voices.
17 initiative.
Oh, yeah.
Okay, well, let's do those and then keep an idea of it.
We'll get these. Oh, 15.
15 is a hit.
Oh no, that's a 19 on the hit.
Okay, well 19 definitely hits.
Sorry, I was rolling for initiative.
No, it's all right.
So the mimic is 11.
And that's four damage and I'll attack with the sword.
Yeah, you have advantage on this one as well.
So roll twice to hit the highest. That's good. and I'll attack with the sword. You have advantage on this one as well. So you're supposed to take the highest.
That's good.
That will be 13.
13 is a hit.
Oh, and that's three damage.
So total was four.
Four plus three.
Seven, nice.
All right, so initiative wise you got 15.
Did you say gutter?
Yeah.
So gutter is fast.
Lord Wakefield. 17. Lord Wakefield?
17.
Lord Wakefield is also fast, going before the monster.
Sir Jolly?
13.
That is also fast.
17, so yeah.
All of you.
Okay, so we know that all the players go first.
So yeah, as Gutter reaches in, this thing seems to come alive, some beasts that you have awoken, but you're all quick on the initiative.
You guys get to decide who takes turns.
I'm going to just keep wailing.
Yeah, go for it.
No more advantage because it is no longer surprised.
Well, that is a red hot miss.
And then the sword is 19.
That is a hit.
Five damage.
Five points.
Okay.
So Gutter kind of like slamming his blades and club into this thing.
It does seem to react.
All of us surrounding this thing.
Yeah, yeah, it does.
And this is a quite small room,
so there's only barely enough room for you all
to kind of get engaged, yeah.
Who wants to go next?
Astab.
Okay, yeah.
That is a 16 to hit.
16 will hit.
Seven, eight, nine points of slashing damage.
Another nine points of slashing damage, Another nine points of slashing damage.
Yeah, big heavy blow as the sword comes cutting through.
Sure, I'll two-handed mace it.
Okay.
14.
14 hits.
Oh, damn.
All right.
You can spend position to do damage.
Six plus one, so seven.
Seven more points.
Another heavy blow slams into this thing
all right um i'll i'll start swinging uh that's 20. natural 20. no just oh yeah it hits uh okay
so that is uh six damage six more points uh i will still an offhand attack, not going to do my fancy position thing. Oh, it's a
natural one. It's going to be a miss. Okay, so you swing it. You've all dealt like severe
laborious. It is still functional, it's still fighting, but it does look heavily injured
and it is bloodied. I will tell you this, It is bloodied. But it's gonna turn its attacks. It's gonna do, I think it just gets one attack.
Oh.
Yeah, yeah, it just has one attack.
It is going to use its pseudopod, one of its long limbs.
It's gonna stretch out towards Gutter,
because you were the one that woke it up.
Cool.
And that is gonna be a 14 to hit.
Yeah, that's a hit.
That is gonna be 10 points of position.
See ya.
I'll just go back up here.
I'm deprived.
It's just so bad.
You've got that bookmark.
It's an 11.
Oh, I'm sad as well now.
All sad.
All sad.
Just so you know, you've been taking two damage off every attack as well
because that's like the knight's armor thing, I think.
Or like something.
Or is that a bloodied thing?
No, I took a strength one.
Yeah, that's right.
No, but I think one of your bloodied things
is you take two less damage or something.
Bloody defense.
Oh, okay.
Okay.
So yeah, this thing slams Gutter,
whose body sticks to his hand and his body just fades into ash, and you appear bonfire.
And we jump back to everyone else.
Gutter, no!
I'll just start swinging.
Sure, yeah.
A frenzy.
Yeah, 19.
19 hits.
Two damage.
Two points of damage.
I will spend,
wait no, four damage, sorry,
four is plus two slashing as well.
Okay.
I will spend
four points of position to do extra damage.
Extra four damage.
Yep.
Okay, I mean a heavy blow there dealt by Lord Wakefield. I'm still still barely alive offhand
That's a two. Yep. So Jolly or Dex
Mmm, it's um 12 to hit just barely hits it
Seven points of damage seven points of damage
It's gonna to bring us to 49.
Still standing. Just barely.
Two-handed mace.
Oh, god damn.
Six, nine.
All right, I'm going to spend three.
That will hit it.
That will hit it.
I'm on one health.
Oh my god.
And d8 plus one. Two. You've not got any position to spend do you know I just
spent it on boosting that yeah I got one health it still lives you and you do
look injured it would to see that you are weak it's's going to go for Dex build. I'm dead.
16 to hit?
Yeah, I'm dead.
Any way to boost your AC?
I did, but on the mace attack, but it would cost 2 position to do that, so I would have just died doing that.
Goodbye, you're dead.
See ya!
Baaah!
Give us a roll.
Oh yeah, shit.
Come on!
You two are going to get some nice XP though.
Ten?
Ten?
Forgotten.
Some memory, some fragile recollection of your past or current life has gone.
Between you and the GM, decide what this memory is and what effect its loss has on you.
The touch of my wife.
Nice!
I can't remember it!
What a callback!
Love it!
Yeah, and what effect that has, I think that it's had plenty of effect.
I'm just more miserable.
Even more size.
It kills you, Sir Johnny and Lord Wakefield.
Swing at it.
Yeah.
Let's see, 14?
14 will hit.
This is such a zero tactics fight.
It's just, I'll hit it. It's because you're level one as well.
You didn't have anything.
Six damage.
Six points.
Still alive.
One hit point left.
I will spend three points of position
to roll again at disadvantage.
Just swinging those twin blades like,
please die.
I'm blind now, so I have plus one.
It's like that bit in the game where you're like,
it's on like an inch of health, but you're nearly dead.
You go like, just one more hit!
20.
20 to hit, hits.
Yep, okay.
It's dead, it's one hit point.
I did one.
You just managed to slice,
cutting this thing as it falls into a pile.
And you do see a two-handed sword does drop,
kind of. Can I touch that now
I think so you two gain 450 soul that's a lot wait hang on we were alive when it
died oh that's true you were alive my dice yeah you guys do gain it some soul
but you lost all of your other ones but you were dead you didn't have it yeah i didn't know you had 200 because they used the item yeah well we have the 250. yeah we have died in exactly
the same place yeah yeah yeah that's definitely how it goes i feel like that's yeah quite apt for
you too as well legit souls players um all right uh yeah so what's the sword then? It is a flambeur.
Should we just come and join?
Yes, absolutely you should.
So where are the swords?
I guess I'll sigh as I walk through there.
We're all sad now.
Some memory lost?
The touch of my wife?
Not that I know.
Oh man, I'd love to be able to remember the touch of my wife.
Can you remember yours?
Do you have any good stories about that?
No, none.
So this is a heavy two-handed flamberge, the wavy sword.
She must have touched me at least once.
Strength of 14 requirement.
It does a D12 in damage.
Ooh.
That's its base damage.
And it's special as you can spend two position to deal plus three damage on a successful attack.
Oh, my gosh.
It's a two-handed blade.
No, she touched me zero times.
I prefer the lighter weapons, and I pass ithanded blade. No, she touched me zero times. I prefer
the later weapons and I pass it to you. Yeah, I'll take it. You say later weapons? Well,
anybody who's got strength of 14 can use it. So if you're happy with your sword and shield,
like I've got strength 14. Have you? Yeah. Take it. I quite like my shield so. I mean
this is probably going to do, well it's only one attack. It'll do more than my 1d4 plus 2 club.
Yeah, it certainly will do more than that.
So yeah, it's two-handed, 1d12, spend two position to deal plus three damage.
I certainly wouldn't mind the shield.
What do I need to...
The shield, I think, was like...
I don't have a shield at all, so...
Oh, do you not?
No, just my sacred chime.
And it was the grass shield, wasn't it?
Grass crest, yeah.
Grass crest shield.
Strength 13.
Perfect.
Plus two AC.
Amazing.
And you get that weird position,
spend one to grant plus one to someone else or yourself.
If I level up, that's super useful.
Cool.
But not right now.
Not right now.
So, yeah, apart from this, you kind of clear this room out now. Like, there's nothing left apart from this, you've kind of cleared this room out now.
There's nothing left apart from this great spoked wheel
that seems to be connected to chains,
which you would all recognise is like a portcullis control, right?
And normally there are two of them,
and they need to be pulled at the same time.
At the same time.
Oh, so we've got one, but not the other.
So I'm assuming the other one's over there.
Yeah, but you saw that the actual doorway is covered in rubble,
but there is a tower above it.
There is like a room above it.
Full of skelly bums.
Or there was that corridor that you saw
that led to a doorway that leads to the lower part.
Full of the bad men.
Right.
Through the corridor with the archways.
That was, you had to get across the courtyard.
If we walk quietly there, we might not aggro.
Yeah, you could also just run.
Like, you could just try running across the courtyard.
I'm pretty sneaky, actually. I reckon I could also just run. Like, you could just try running across the courtyard. I'm pretty sneaky, actually.
I reckon I could do a sneak.
All right.
I am going to stay here and watch this.
I'll see you up in that room in a minute.
Yes.
All right.
So, yeah.
So, Gunther wants to, like, basically, where you fell down,
you could try and sneak across the courtyard,
go in that doorway with that corridor that you saw. Hug the wall as much as I can. So yeah. So Gutser wants to like, basically where you fell down, you could try and sneak across the courtyard. Yeah.
Go in that doorway with that corridor that you saw.
Hug the wall as much as I can, try and sneak.
Sure, yeah.
And I'll follow him.
You know, it's misty.
Okay, it's misty and it's dark.
So make it with advantage and make a stealth check
or dexterity if you don't have stealth.
Cool, I've got stealth for me.
Plus four.
Ooh, that's 13.
Have advantage. Roll twice, take the me. Plus four. Ooh, that's 13.
Roll twice, take the highest.
Or 18.
Okay.
11.
So I have either 13.
Oh, wait, I'm bloodied, so...
That'd be 14.
That'd be 14.
Plus one.
Oh, 19, 20.
Yeah.
Wait, 20.
The two of you hugging the wall,
you do hear the clatter of bones as those skeletal arches seem to be like looking for
something, but kind of sticking to the shadows pressed up against the wall.
You sneak along until you make your way back into that hallway that Gutter had been in
before with these three sort of extends between the two towers and it has these three archways
very beautifully decorated with these effigies and things like that.
There's a faint carpet still.
I'll try and quietly weave the others on to come.
Wait, no, we need to open at the same time,
but I say that through elaborate hand gestures.
Same time, turn wheel.
I mean, I'm not even looking outside.
Yes, Jolly wasn't even looking anyway.
I mean, I'm not looking because I'm just miserable. reginald and all that yeah and so jolly's like
we want to stealth down the corridor towards this room yeah i mean you don't even need to
stuff like at this point you don't think like anything knows you're in here so i'm just very
aware there's a big silver boy with a bow
and he has stabbed me once before.
Your current stealth checks are still active
until you like run or like do something.
All right.
I'm creeping.
Okay.
I'm right behind them with both my swords.
Who's going first?
Gutter.
Don't worry.
So as you move, the second you step
under that first archway gutter, you something in the floor give what do you do?
Like something up you've stood on pressure plate
You're underneath this like stone archway. I'll throw myself forwards throw yourself forwards. You throw yourself for make an acrobatics check for me
Boom that is not super good
Boom! That is not super good. Um, a nine?
You throw yourself forward but you basically sprawl on the floor in front of you.
Can I use my memory of the roaring explosion to make a reroll on a save roll?
Yeah, absolutely. Like you feel like this pressure. Well, I'll say it on any check, but yeah,
you feel this, like, I remember this, like I was diving
away from something. Yeah, like, I have a panic
moment. What kind of explosion
is this, like, I think actually
tied into what I know of the story.
This is, like, you sense the explosion of flame,
like the roar of dragon's breath.
And you kind of feel this need to, like, leap forward.
I feel like I was
bombing, like, a bakery. And it went wrong. Perfect. And it just kind of feel this need to like leap forward. I feel like I was bombing like a bakery.
Shut up.
It went wrong.
Perfect.
And it just kind of exploded out.
And blew me up.
Nice.
Sounds about right.
So you have advantage.
You get to make a second, yeah, roll it again basically.
Ooh, 21.
Okay, much better.
So that extra boost of effort, you know, this memory,
you leap forward, but you stop yourself
before you fall under the next archway, this memory, you leap forward but you stop yourself before you
fall under the next archway, right? Because you threw yourself forward, there's two more of these
archways and you're now between these two as behind you a guillotine blade hidden in the archway
and locks back into place. Okay. I'll just carefully step over that pressure plate.
Okay, making uh,
after this would be like uh acrobatics or dex, dexterity check. Make sure you don't
slip. Um, okay that is a 14. 14's enough. 12, 12. Yeah, you managed to just like step
over it, it's only like you know it's there, like you step over it kind of thing, yeah.
Um, you said there's like- Now between these, like there's three, so it's like first one, you're between the first and the second one, and then there's the third between these like there's three so it's like first one you're between the first and
the second one and then there's a third one and there's like tables and shit in here no no it's
just basically a corridor with these stone archways and carved into the archways are effigies of
knights holding banners and on the banners there is a heron holding a torch with different sword
numbers like numbers of swords what number of sword is this banner we're next to?
The one in front of you is the center arch,
and that has four swords on it.
How many bricks are on the ground?
Six.
I'm gonna go step across the fourth brick.
Okay, you step down.
I need you to make a dexterity saving throw for me.
Fuck.
Uh-oh. Okay, you step down, I need you to make a dexterity saving throw for me. Fuck.
Uh, uh oh. I'm just gonna get my D10s out.
Don't say that number.
That's a four plus, that's an eight.
Can I use some healthy times to...
Healthy times?
Some reactions to get boost this number.
Is that a thing you can do?
Yes, you can, yeah.
I will boost that to a...
I'll use three points.
To get it to a total of?
12, no, 11.
11?
You try to like leap out of the way,
but this thing catches you on the side.
You're gonna take five damage as this guillotine blade just narrowly...
Oh, there you go.
Why didn't you drink your Estus before?
Good point.
Oh yeah, shit.
Estus.
Estus.
It's Dark Souls.
Oh, why did I forget that?
Bye bye 650 souls.
Oh god.
He watches your lord, like, it's like, I've got it.
Steps on this brick and
chops his leg off.
And he just bleeds out and dies.
And it disappears.
As it is slowly rising
can I just step over it?
While it's rising up you can just jump over it.
But there's still one more arch in front of you.
Okay, are there still banners and stuff on the walls?
There's an iron torch sconce on the wall
with a broken torch and then yeah,
the archways are carved into this like banner above you
being held by two knights.
Can I like just take the torch and just like bang, bang, bang
You go to take the torch but it doesn't move.
Okay, with my wooden club,
can I bang, bang, bang along the floor?
Shook! I'll see my club gets chopped.
Yep, yep, club's destroyed.
Just then just step over.
Step over, yeah.
Yeah, easy.
No problem.
Smart boy!
Smart boy.
There you go.
Yeah, it's the voices.
They told me.
They told you.
There might be another blade.
So watch out.
Watch out.
Can I start sneaking my way back though?
You can make a stealth check.
Oh, I need to roll my dead. Oh yeah. Yeah, can't forget that. I got a three. So watch out! Can I start sneaking my way back there? You can make a stealth check.
Oh, I need to roll my dead.
I got a three.
Three is a new one.
Darkness falls. What is left of you?
Almost nothing!
Reduce one attribute by two.
So it's your choice.
Intelligence.
Very little of your mind remains.
Very little of your mind remains. Very little of your mind
remains and then it's a stealth
check to try and get back to where you were
meanwhile gutter you get to the end of this corridor and there's a
wooden door that leads into the bottom half
sneak your way over
and we'll come and find out what you guys are up to
wooden door
that leads into the bottom of the second
guard tower
gate tower
yeah fucks that leads into the bottom of the second guard tower, gate tower yeah if I just kick it open
yeah it does open
it is not locked
inside you find
there is another one of those
giant spoked wheels that
connects to it, there is also a ladder
that leads up to the roof and there is like a wooden
trap door above you, there's no other
entrances or exits the floor is somewhat sticky in
this room cool I'm pretty sticky as well
yeah I can just have a a cursory glove yeah make a perception check Ooh
That's a two
That's a two
It's dark you can't really see much
And sticky
Yeah I'm not really paying a ton of attention
Got my eyes on that wheel
Kind of grabbing it
Give it a feel
You start jostling it and you two notice
Your one starts jostling as well at the same time
Yeah, I'm kind of like he's crying
I'm mid pat pat pat while he's crying on my shoulder and I'm like
The wheel at some point I slumped over and I'm like leaning over the edge of the wheel that would push it correctly
Yeah, so like yeah as your slumps on it as gutter starts playing with it
You do both manage to twist it.
And we see the portcullis gate begin to write.
I do, the voices in my head are also trying to guide me into making sure that we're opening this as you're stealthing about here.
Yeah.
As you're sneaking along stealthily.
That's fine.
We time for it to be when you are just in front of the gate.
That's perfect and I 100% know what happens, but also Tom Clark, do you want to run the
combat where six slimes jump out at you after you finish jumping this way?
Oh god, slimes are such a tedious enemy to fight.
Or you just want to die.
Or you could try and run.
So you see these things drop from the floor.
Yeah, you're just going to run back the way you came.
Run.
They are slow as hell.
Yeah, they are insanely slow, right?
So you just run through the corridor, right?
Do a run.
Okay, can you make Dex safe?
Yeah, yeah, over those guillotines.
Oh.
Can I...
Does it look like they're ever going to be able to catch me? No. Can I broken sword, does it look like they're even going to ever be able to catch me?
No.
Um...
Can I broken sword the first one?
Yeah.
Lose that.
Snap the blade in half.
Shield the next one?
Aww.
You aren't using any of these things, to be fair.
I've just got my sword now.
Oh, god.
I mean, the sword's definitely tougher.
What about your loincloth?
It will damage you. No. You mean
you could also just try and like, just try and like jump over where the plates are right?
You could just be like I'm just gonna jump and hope you don't fuck it up. But he's seen
what happened when people try and like cross. His lord died. It looked really bad but yeah
I guess the last one, just hail Mary, do a jump and roll. Yeah, just give me a dex saving throw.
Ooh, that's a nat one.
Oh my God.
60 damage.
And you're like, here we go.
Whoa, fuck, you put your hands down on the plates
and it jumps around.
So,.
Yeah, go into like a runner's stance.
Press down.
Oh, fucking hell.
I just dropped.
Cut in half.
Perfect.
Absolutely perfect.
As that happens,
Lord Wakeford, as you guys are like in the room being pressed,
you're crossing over as the portcullis rises
and you look behind you and you can see now
that this castle is built onto a small island
in the middle of a huge lake
and there is a long bridge that extends
and I think you can faintly see
what looks like a bridge house on the other side,
but this whole area is just surrounded
by a really thick gray mist,
like on the very outskirts of the lake basically.
Okay.
And then you guys hear like a noise upstairs.
Yeah, the sound of...
We go outside like...
You hear the sound upstairs.
We should fetch gutter from that tower over there.
No, no, I don't think we need to.
We'll find him upstairs.
I'm going to head down the bridge.
Are you going to tell the others that that's what you're doing?
Are you going to wait for them or are you going on your own?
I'm going on my own.
Okay. Okay. Sure.
Hey, I'm Nat 20 stealth here as well.
Yeah, but...
It's looking pretty... yeah, you are.
You begin making your way down the bridge.
I guess I'll come and join these guys.
Yeah, I'll meet up with them.
I mean, you guys can, you all heard the portcullis.
Can we see a window outside to the bridge?
Oh yeah, you heard the portcullis and you can see the bridge now, right?
So you see Lord Wakeford making his way.
We'll meet in the courtyard ready to go.
So you guys can follow after him, but he's up ahead of you. As you're making your way
down this long bridge, leading to what you think is
at least escape from this castle, wherever
you happen to be. And as you're making
your way down, you begin to see the waters
of the lake becoming disturbed,
thrashing, kind of
flowing, breaking apart. And then
suddenly something leaps
from the water and comes slamming
down onto the bridge with
a thunderous roar.
A bite, a kind of like quadruped creature of fat and scales with a giant horned head
clutching a huge hammer in its hand.
Let me in.
Roll initiative.
1v1 this asylum demon
That's a 3
That's a 7
14
Oh he always acts first
What?
Initiative DC always acts first
So it doesn't really matter
what you roll for initiative
So on his turn
he is going to make two attacks, one with his ground pound and one with his hammer drive.
So he brings his giant hammer down on Lord Wakeford. That's a natural one. So you roll
to the side as this hammer comes slamming down, chunks of stone reaching up and then
as he leaps up into the air with these tiny little vestigial wings,
holding him aloft for a moment,
and then he comes slamming down.
All creatures in a 15 foot cone.
Can you make a con saving throw, please?
Con save, oh God.
Boom, boom, boom.
12, and I'm pointing you.
12 is enough.
Yeah, yeah, this is like baby boss.
This is mini boss. This isn't, no, this is like baby boss, this is mini boss.
This isn't, no, this isn't a mini boss.
This isn't the real boss.
Does he have a tail?
He does, yeah, he has like a little tail, stubby tail.
But yeah, you are on a failure.
On a successful save, the creature takes half damage
and that's it.
Obviously still take, all right.
Seven, half, three.
Three points of damage. Okay.
You all get to go first. Wakefoot is the only one there.
The rest of you see this happen in front of you.
You're stood on the very edge of the bridge looking down as he's standing off against this humongous creature.
I'm gonna run behind it and try to chop off its tail.
Okay, sure.
Kind of roll underneath its legs, make an attack.
That's a 16 to hit.
That will hit.
Six damage.
Six points of damage.
You cut into it, you manage to bite into some of the flesh and tail,
but there's something eldritch and unnatural about its toughness,
like trying to chop into some rubbery, thick material.
I'll do an offhand attack.
That is a 19.
19 will hit.
One.
Lovely.
Seven points damage.
What about the rest of you?
You guys can get there in a movement,
or you can just wait there.
Tell me, Gato, what do the voices in your head
tell you right now?
I don't know if you want to know exactly what they're saying, but is there any way we can drop all this portcullis on that big fuck?
That's actually quite a smart idea.
Just be careful. There's a lot of blades and slimes over by that gate.
We shall use this lever then.
Yeah, we're going to need both, aren't we?
You could drop one, it would drop the entire thing, right?
Make a... just make an intelligence check for me.
Both of you two, as you're... and Gutter as well.
I like how it just instantly just counts Gutter.
Five.
Idiot. Ooh, 14.
Well, no, because you came up with the idea, that's why.
49.
49.
Five.
Five. Gutter being the one.
You think that like, even though the voices in your mind,
even though they were both needed to open it,
you think if you could break the wheel of one side,
that would probably disbalance the system and drop the portcullis.
And then we would never go through it again. But then you would be trapped inside the castle.
But there might be another way out.
Maybe you could climb over the walls,
or there might be another, there might be a secret passageway.
True.
So anyway, yeah, what do you guys want to do?
Before I get to me trying to kill rams again.
Who wants to smash the wheel?
I will go and smash the wheel.
And just like with the sword over my shoulders,
I'll just start walking down the bridge,
standing directly on the grooves of...
Where the portcullis slams down.
Nice.
Try and sit on me, you fat fuck.
Hear a growl.
I'll move up next to Gutter and dong my bell aloud
and say, end my miserable existence, you fat fuck!
Definitely seems to pay some attention.
And then, so, Jolly, you're going to go back into the gate room
and then do you want to, like, take a swank?
Yeah, when the thing...
When the fat fuck is on the colours.
OK, in that case, fat fucks go.
I mean, are we able to say, like, if it gets to us, we, like, move back?
Yeah, you can ready actions just like in the other game that we play.
Cool.
I'm planning on just respawning up there.
I've got nothing to lose.
I literally have nothing to lose.
I have 650 XP.
Ten to hit, Lord Waverford.
A big hammer comes slapping down again, rolling behind him,
trying to get into his blind spot.
He will turn and try and ground pound you once again.
That's a con saving throw, please.
That's a 13.
13 is a success.
It's gonna be half damage.
Four.
Two, two points of damage.
He's doing it, he's doing it everyone.
He's Dark Souls-ing. He's gaming. He's doing it. He's doing it, everyone. He's Dark Souls-ing.
He's gaming. He's rolling.
He's dodging. He's learning the moves.
This is the one.
We can do it.
Well, yeah, in that case, we go to you, Plants10.
You guys can decide who goes first.
I think Lord Wakeford probably makes the most sense, right?
Okay.
So you can do like normal game.
You can disengage and stuff like that as well, Lord Wakeford,
if you wish to, or you can just keep attacking.
I will keep attacking.
Okay, okay.
Yeah.
Oh, do I keep attacking?
Okay, can I pull out my wooden shield?
Uh-huh.
And I have one sword.
Yep.
Okay.
I don't know how that, how does that change?
It's free action.
It's part of like making an attack. how does that change? It's free action.
It's part of like making an attack.
How does that change the damage though?
No, it doesn't change the damage.
It means you just can't make an offhand attack.
Ah, got you, got you.
Okay, so that's a 14 to hit.
14 will hit.
Okay.
Yeah, this guy's pretty easy to hit.
Eight, 12, 10.
10 damage.
10 points of damage, yeah.
Nice.
And then I will spend one position to move up to ten feet without making an opportunity attack after making a successful attack.
And then you still have your normal movement off that as well.
Exactly.
So you kind of like leap back, you do like a cool back step, and then what, you're just going to run to your companions?
I'm just going to roll backwards and I'm going to run behind my friends.
You do that really weird like Falchion power attack thing where you just do like a spin
Nice right the rest of you so you guys want to read need actions like when this thing gets to you're gonna jump back We move backwards. So it's under I mean, what are you doing? I'm planning to be there for what he but slams me
I'm gonna move backwards. Okay, so you're gonna ready an action to basically run backwards. Yeah
It's yeah, yeah.
And then we know that Sir Jolly is waiting to like smash this thing.
Cool.
All right.
In that case, yeah, this thing on its turn it will move up.
You back off, run away.
It will try and make a slamming hammer against Gutter,
who's now sort of stood in its way, and then he's gonna try and butt slam you.
That's a 10.
Whoa, my marmot 10.
Yes, I dodged that.
You did, yeah, yeah.
Dodged just, I just stepped to one side
as the hammer comes down.
Just one step, like the orc in the two towers.
Yeah, yeah.
And then he will ground pound.
So that's a 15 foot cone.
So constitution saving throw.
Well, you said that you were ready in action, right?
For when he runs up, you're going to run away.
Yeah, but then I only moved 10 feet away, knowing that it's a 15 feet cone.
18.
18?
7.
That's a fail for you.
10.
10, that's a fail for you.
So Guts are actually...
That's 8 damage to the two of you and 4 damage to Guthrie.
Oh my god.
Are you down?
I'm dead.
That almost killed me.
I've got two left.
Okay, roll a d20 for me Rams.
Oh god.
Six.
Six.
Immune.
Death has cleansed you of some of the frailties of human life.
You are immune to poison and the poisoned effect.
Hell yeah.
The first beneficial one.
Yay!
Hell yeah.
You're immune because he like shit on you.
Yeah.
He vomits his evil demon.
That's what the spray was.
Yeah, the spray.
It's slamming down and just a shit cone.
Meanwhile, Guthrie's just covered in it and he doesn't even notice.
So at this point, he is now underneath this thing and it's your guy's go.
I will...
Quick breaks at night!
I'd do that.
Do your thing!
I will do my thing.
All right.
We'll just assume that you cut it, you smash the spokes.
As the spokes will break, the wheel just assume that you cut it, you smash the spokes. As the spokes
will break, the wheel just turns rapidly.
You hear like a kind of
and then crashing down, the portcullis
comes slamming down, piercing
through this thing's head. Can you make a dex saving throw
for me, please? Yeah, I can.
Gutter.
Ooh, that ain't good. That
is an eight.
You spend...
Stop to boost it?
Yeah, can I...
Spend...
Oh!
Can I use one of my...
Can I use my drive?
Yes.
Because my drive was to achieve redemption.
I need to redeem myself of darkness.
And so I was trying
to do a heroic sacrifice
yeah I love it
you're like come at me
to try and save everyone else
even though Will Wakefield died but you don't know
I don't know because I'm still facing the deep
I'm saving everyone
you're covered in shit
oh so that'll be 13
13
can I also spend this?
You can.
Yeah, you can spend position.
Sure.
You know what?
I'm going to spend five to take it up to 18.
Hell yeah.
Yeah, so you leap backwards as the portcullis comes slamming down,
managing to avoid the damage.
The sharp points at the bottom of the portcullis slam into the abyssinian,
asylum demon, sorry, and spin it, killing it instantly.
Everybody who's alive, which is everyone, 1,800 souls.
Wow.
That's a lot of souls.
That's a lot of souls.
So I've still got my 250 from the Mimic, I think.
You do.
So I've got 450 for the Mimic.
Oh, shit.
That's 450 for the Mimic.
250 I've got now.
I'll just walk back down the stairs like.
But with the mini boss defeated, we aren't gonna have to call it there
as we've reached our allotted time.
What is the health of that thing?
Of the Asylum Demon, 91 hit points and it takes 17.
Oh, okay.
This is not a boss.
This is just a mini boss.
It's a tough creature.
That's reasonable.
Would you like to know some of the stats on a boss?
Name a Dark Souls boss.
Well, that's the Dancer of the Boreal Valley.
Oh, the Gaping Dragon.
Oh, yeah.
The Gaping Dragon.
Yeah.
Gaping Dragon is challenge rating 21.
The Asylum Demon is challenge rating 5.
Ooh.
It has 350 position.
It's melee attacks.
It makes three attacks with plus 15 to hit.
Plus 15?
Plus 15 to hit.
It deals 4d10 plus 8 piercing damage.
Oh, my God.
If you take a crit from its bite, you take 14d8 acid damage.
What?
Yeah.
Oh, my God.
I mean, there must be, like, levelled up gear and all this stuff
to get to a point where you're like, oh, God.
Well, also, like, you guys could level up to, like, level three now.
Like, if you got to a bonfire, you could be like, we're level three.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
I never tried.
Can I put the sword back in?
Can we have our bonfires on level one?
You did try.
If you had, it would have worked. Can we have our bonfires You did try If you had
It would have worked
Can we just go up
And just level up
No you broke your sword
Oh fuck you're right
You put it
You put it on the pressure plate
Right I did break
I did break my broken sword
If you want to give up
Your flambeuse
You could put that in there
And then have nothing
But yeah
But yeah
That was it
That's all we've got time for today.
Thank you very much for watching.
I think that's the most fun you can have dying.
It was great. It was really good.
I also love the idea of just building this really intricate but kind of small dungeon and it's just full of enemies.
You won't be able to see this on camera, but this was my crappy map that I drew of the castle.
And I was like, right, this is the upper level,
and then I'm going to have a dungeon here,
and I had a bunch of stuff in there.
And we just died over it all.
As it was written.
As it is written.
This is the way.
I mean, it's like when people say,
oh, Dark Souls is like a 20-hour game,
and you're like, I can't get out of the first area.
That's me.
That's pretty much my playthrough.
But yeah, so go and check it out. I do think this is, I think it's a very cool game.
