Starting point is 00:00:00 this is a head gum podcast hey guys support for today's show comes from dash lane dash lane makes everything you do online easier so much easier fill out forms fast remember all your passwords and keep your online data accessible and safe with this all-in-one app i use it i i love dash lane has already made my life so much easier. And is there a way, Sean? Way easier. Yes. I was, I mean, I, you know, I've talked about this a little bit before,
Starting point is 00:00:32 but, you know, I'm LD. I'm not Larry David. I'm learning disabled. And my reading comprehension sometimes leaves something to be desired. And one thing that would happen to me is if I was reading quickly, I would misunderstand what websites were requiring of me. So I often would kind of combine different words. And so I'd say, oh, this form needs a password.
Starting point is 00:01:00 I would read it as pass worm. And I would be out in my yard digging around hunting for worms to try to get into the website which was extremely time consuming extremely messy screwed up my computer and didn't get me any closer to entering the website so i you know i'd go oh pass worm let me go get one yeah and i. And then like feeding a worm into your CD-ROM drive. Sticking it onto the screen or yes, putting it into the drives or the different ports. And how the CD-ROM drive kind of automatically does the like. Yes.
Starting point is 00:01:36 And sucks the worm in. And the worm's not too happy either. And then the program that it runs on the computer is like. It for worms it's not interesting no it's i'm sure it's interesting to worms it looks like you're traveling through dirt which i guess is what they like but for me it wasn't helpful dash lane has eliminated the human error part of this where they see that the website wants a password and they just fill it in for me. So I'm no longer digging up a worm, putting the worm in the CD-ROM drive, hearing the noise, seeing a program that is just a simulation of me traveling through dirt, passing it through my body.
Starting point is 00:02:28 I am actually entering the website and getting to see what the lady or gentleman who I am merely a fan of has been up to this week. Merely fans. Merely fans. Stick around later in the show
Starting point is 00:02:44 to hear how Dashlane has helped us out. So it was me and the guy who played Taco on the league. Am I getting that right? Is it Taco or Nacho? Yes. I want to say taco or nacho? Yes. I want to say John or enchilada. Is that insensitive? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:11 No, I don't know who we... But we were embroidering pillows with swear word hashtags. Just like really, just the dirtiest, nastiest hashtag. It was like a contest, like a make each other crack up contest um and it had to look nice like you did it uh in the sort of way that you would buy like a like home is where you know the heart is sort of nice embroidered pillow with a little picture of a house but you would do like a picture of like spread ass cheeks and it would say like yeah it would be like uh hashtag planet of the games okay that's perfect and i wish i had come up with that one what did you do instead
Starting point is 00:03:56 i said like i think i said hashtag home is where the fart is. Okay. And I think that's why I even thought of home is where the heart is as an example of a traditional one. Is spreading their butt to fart. To release an even bigger fart. It's essentially being released from behind the paywall. That's a good way to set it up. Just be like, hey guys, just for my real fans, I am going to be releasing one bonus episode from Behind the Paywall. Every Friday, we're going to release one more of our bonus episodes from Behind the Paywall, and you kind of set it up that way.
Starting point is 00:04:38 And then you do bend over, pull apart your buttcheeks, and you do let one rip. It's probably going to get the same kind of sound but i love um those pillows and thank you for doing those i do need them soon i do have to give them to my uh grandma who is very old uh and then take a picture of her holding it and then be like my grandma made this she's like she's nasty she but tricking your grandma into accidentally being nasty has become really the only currency we have in this quarantine world is to is to first of all have materials touched by multiple other people me and taco who is unclean then give that to an elderly woman who is you know in the most at-risk
Starting point is 00:05:32 group in the world uh for possibly getting very sick and uh and having terrible complications have her touch it then you stand next to her you pose her for multiple photos you're kind of shoving her around yeah i'd say grandma's getting through quarantine okay grandma hold it grandma stop dropping that grandma grandma just hold just stop moving just hold it hi welcome to hollywood yeah it says pussy popping like a Pringles can. Yes, it says that. Just shut up. Smile. No, don't smile.
Starting point is 00:06:20 Hi, welcome to Hollywood Handbook. An insider's guide to kicking butt and dropping names in the red carpet lineback hallways of this industry we call showbiz welcome alan yang what's up guys how are you alan yang the first person to come on our show in a long time who is like doing shit yeah right he has a thing going on we always have these people where we're like so why do you want to do the show and they're kind of like, I guess I have nothing else to do. And it's like, yeah, you did. You practically begged. You got strong-armed into doing it. That's what they say on the show.
Starting point is 00:06:55 Meanwhile, they're sending you emails. They're texting you all the time. Can I get on? Can I get on a Zoom app? Even a Zoom app. Good enough, you know? Even a Zoom app. Can I please chase Clout on a Zoom app? Even a Zoom app, good enough, you know? Even a Zoom app. Can I please chase clout on a Zoom app? Yeah. But you're actually doing stuff. I'm getting shit done.
Starting point is 00:07:11 How about that? Speak on that. You want me to talk about my process? Just about doing shit. Yeah, you know, you wake up in the morning. I've heard a lot of quarantine advice but you know dress like dress for the job you want so get up and and dress like you know dress for just in your power outfit and yeah you know i see you guys are wearing yours i'm wearing mine and yeah i got a branded nascar onesie on yeah i have my calm to fuck down t-shirt.
Starting point is 00:07:46 I love that. The job you want is like yoga teacher who's kind of wrong. Yeah. He's a little off. This class is not exactly like other classes you've been to. Bitches!
Starting point is 00:08:03 Some of the things he says are kind of twisted you know i'm gonna stay home i'm gonna stay home interesting i'm gonna stay home oh namaste home that's that's the new that's the have you do you have that instagram handle because it's it's good it's good um me and a couple other guys have it we've been splitting it um you've been squatting on that for years before corona that's what's crazy i'm not currently in charge of it but i own a piece of it so it's about 15 guys uh it's you fuck jerry fat jew you guys are all on it yeah that's right um yeah my my boys uh and we got you know we're gonna do some cool stuff with it when it's ready it's the the mistake a lot of people make is getting in too early on these like
Starting point is 00:08:53 sort of novelty instagram handles and like kind of blowing their wad and not really getting the funniest shit loaded and ready to fire. Tiger Tail. Speaking of funny. Tiger Tail. Netflix movie. Netflix movie, yeah. Walk me through this. How do I watch this?
Starting point is 00:09:21 It's the only movie on Netflix right now. There's no other movies. They took all the other ones off but yeah it's do they give you the option to even like to try to click on something else uh it's that kind of thing remember when roma came out like it was before you know you don't even have to sign in it's just i think you meant to say rana when rana came out rana and rana and beverly rana and bev i do remember when rana and beverly came out uh it was a big inspiration to us obviously we sort of ripped them off you have a you have a
Starting point is 00:09:53 rana and bev pod right just around and bev pod that's the side pod you guys do yeah break down every episode it's this this is this is how this started we're like what if we just do their thing but we don't have to like dress up and stuff yeah or do a whole like thing like a character thing we'll just kind of like talk like us and be like listen um but i wanted to say alan as you were talking about tiger tale on netflix dude tiger king is another thing yeah yeah. They're both equally great. Joe Exotic, dude. What about Carol Baskin, huh? Did she kill her husband?
Starting point is 00:10:30 Oh my god, Carol did it. Carol killed her husband. Oh, yeah. What about the guy with no legs? That guy. He's a guy. Dude, yes. Eric Reinke.
Starting point is 00:10:45 Yes. And hiske. Yes. And his legs, well, he doesn't have no legs. He has legs that are like crazy, like Joker clown legs. It's a Blade Runner situation, but he's not, it doesn't seem like he's running very much. He's just getting around. That guy actually seems pretty cool. But you have to admit that that's crazy.
Starting point is 00:11:03 It is crazy. Can you admit it that that's crazy it is crazy can you admit it it's it's crazy you know okay that's on record now sorry i would go so far to say it's wild it's also wild yeah speaking of wild man i'm watching this tiger tale i mean were you just smoking up when you came up with some of this shit i mean what that's some of the craziest you must have been high off your fucking gourd dude you know what you gotta you gotta plead the fifth on that you know i get that question a lot. A lot. I mean, were you just toking it up? I mean, I'm watching and like, you know, when the old dad finds Facebook, I'm like, were you Z-O-O-T-E-D? Yes, Zooted.
Starting point is 00:12:02 I mean, you must have been, brother. I was like, Alan is on one. Dude, that one shot, that, like, really beautiful shot where it's, like, pulling through the house, and then it's all these, like, green plants growing up through it now, like, through the wreckage. It's like, I think I know what some of those green plants were. Yeah, it's a symbol, right? It's metaphor. You might have been some of those green plants were yeah that's a symbol right it's metaphor you might be doing a little something with those it's metaphor man it opens with green and ends on green you know that that's not a coincidence uh yeah the green chiba stuff
Starting point is 00:12:37 but just to like bring it back to earth i was struck by uh this story of intergenerational trauma inflicted by uh like the like like and the specificity of a man who's like gone through the process of immigrating from taiwan and has been kind of accumulating this personal baggage written personal baggage and like when he's an adult his daughter he finds it difficult to even talk to his daughter because he is so blunted did you what was the thinking
Starting point is 00:13:16 in making him so blown out so bankrupt I mean so blown out so bankrupt i mean it feels like you just said it right there man you really just like i haven't heard such a straight flame broiled it really just like you know when you put all those ingredients together yeah you put it all together and you tell you have those these ingredients right and you you know those ingredients just get baked together just get baked in and they just get baked into the movie you know that's how it works that's how it works there's a couple
Starting point is 00:13:53 scenes alan where uh you know two of the characters are at a restaurant munchies and they're they're having their munchies and they're so fucking stoned they can barely talk to each other. You know what I mean? They're really struggling to get on the same level. Cross-faded. One of them must have did edibles and the other one's ripping tubes.
Starting point is 00:14:24 One of them must have did edibles, and the other one's ripping tubes. Because they're not, they can't connect. No, they're cross-faded. And so that made me think, that really made me think that, like, I don't know. I don't know. It was, I was like, what is it about the sweet hashish mommy that, that does challenge us, uh, and make it difficult sometimes to really share our internal lives and to speak on that for a minute. And if you want to take a minute to freaking inhale first, go ahead. You know know the guys can see we're on zoom so they can see what i'm doing yes again don't want to go i get the details but it's definitely you know it's part of the creative process like we were talking about you know
Starting point is 00:15:17 it's it's it's 10 in the morning and you just you just get in there. Yes. But, you know. Zoom and choom, baby. Zoom and choom. And just, you see the flumes. You see what's behind me. It's just crazy. Vape and then roll tape. One thing I think is, like, you've got to get in the mindset and perspective of some of these different characters. So, like, you know, maybe the dad character, like, wants to roll a fatty cone first thing in the morning but maybe his daughter only wants to pack up a tomahawk bubbler and just kind
Starting point is 00:15:56 of mow the lawn down the side of it yeah and it really just shows you the generational differences right no it's true yeah it's just it It's true. It's cultural, you know? It's cultural. No, I look at my parents and I don't even connect at all to the way in which they blaze earth. Yeah, I just don't think you've seen movies where, you know, obviously people have talked about the Wong Kar Wai influence and Edward Yang and and hoshua shen but really you see these you know taiwanese immigrants and they come to america and you know they smoke up the sticky icky and you just haven't seen that in movies before you just haven't seen like you know it's i think it's it's long overdue it's long overdue you just um that's why that's why i think people have really reacted so powerfully
Starting point is 00:16:42 to the movie it's just they haven't seen that before. And I'll be honest with you guys. I did notice that my audio recording had stopped. And I did try to start it again. And it did say, cannot record audio. And that's sort of like what happens a little bit in the film tiger tail right where he's trying to read he's trying to get his his heart to record audio and what it's saying is you're overheated there's something wrong internally with you and yeah you're not going to be able to do that right now much as you may want to, it's just not an option.
Starting point is 00:17:27 And so it's so funny. I'm just seeing Tiger Tail everywhere now. It's everywhere. I mean, at the end of the movie, I would say the climax is he unplugs his heart and plugs it back in. I mean, it's pretty clear. You see it everywhere. Yeah, it's true. He does manage to restart it.
Starting point is 00:17:44 And then he is able to in a way finally share his audio file with his daughter um which i haven't had that moment alan uh i remember we were hanging out a few years ago um you used to host these rewatchables parties where everyone would go to your place and we would listen to an episode of the rewatchables. And I think we were,
Starting point is 00:18:15 I was there for, we were listening to the Any Given Sunday episode. I think the third one of those that they did. And you said, any given Sunday episode, I think the third one of those that they did, and you said, I'm going to do it. And I was like,
Starting point is 00:18:31 what are you, what? You're going to do what? And you said, I'm going to make a movie for the express purpose of getting on the rewatchables. And I think I did it. I mean, i think i did it i mean i think i did it well you lean into so many rewatchable staples uh you know the kind of things that they like to discuss where
Starting point is 00:18:55 it's like there's this one moment when the mother is um and you know has an accident in the factory and her hand is injured, and I go, oh, God, this is so 2015 Game 7 when LeBron came down on his wrist wrong and had to shoot the free throws anyway. Yeah, and the other thing is the chill moments. It's really the moments that give you the goosebumps. You get a little dusty in there. You guys got a little dusty during the movie i feel like you did i feel like you did yes uh it is you have to have a part in the movie where a man is sad and so that that it will get a little bit dusty in the ringer studios when you are on the when
Starting point is 00:19:48 you are on the rewatchables uh talk about the process i guess like the different pieces we talked about uh getting dusty with it uh we talked about uh different like you know sports analogs, but the entire movie is that, is just a string of basically bait to get your movie to be a rewatchables episode. What else went into that? And are there other sports allegories that we can unpack? Yeah, i think the
Starting point is 00:20:25 whole movie is really kind of a visual representation of lebron's chase down block um you know it's it's really you know him for offense you know him for you know me from comedy right you know yeah and then suddenly his signature play is a defensive play and now my signature movie is a drama i mean yeah the parallel is almost too strong but you're lebron yes i'm lebron in this scenario yes i i did think that the um the man making the choice to uh essentially go to america the sort of superpower, the super team, right? Was a little like KD signing with the Warriors. Yeah, I mean, it's that you don't want him to do it. It might not be the right choice, honestly, for him in the long run.
Starting point is 00:21:15 But you obviously get why it seems like it's going to be more fun. America's playing a brand of basketball that really appeals to him. It's almost too on the nose, a parallel. I mean, 35 Ventures has reached out, full disclosure, and they have talked about how do we make this into a multimedia experience, Tiger Tail, podcasting, the boardroom. It all kind of is of a piece. And so we're talking talking we're still talking
Starting point is 00:21:45 we're going to monetize this obviously in some way that's so the chase down block I mean you're so right and the pieces are just falling into place so obviously you said you're known for comedy and Iguodala and Curry are
Starting point is 00:22:01 Adam Sandler making Uncut Gems and Steve Carell making Welcome to Marwen. And it's like they are getting ahead of you. And it looks like you're never going to make up that ground. I mean, yeah, Marwen is one of those movies you watch and you just... Definitely. Stop right there.
Starting point is 00:22:24 It is absolutely one of those movies you watch and you just you definitely just you stop right there it is absolutely one of those movies you watch but it just you know how things fill you with despair because you just you don't know how you can top it you know that's that's the sort of like wow you know it's it's just yeah just like hurts so good tiger tail merch i see you're wearing a bucket hat with a literal tiger tail sticking out of the back uh on your hair um that's right what else can we expect to see from the factory i mean i i know oh and he's showing okay he's standing up and showing me you got cargo shorts with a tiger tail coming off the butt as well so um what was the thought process behind like was the idea of naming it that strictly because you could do so many funny clothing products? And what else is coming out?
Starting point is 00:23:13 Are there any like sayings on T-shirts that we should be looking out for? Where can I buy this stuff? The merch came first for sure. The merch came first. We have the underwear for ladies as well with the tiger tail. As you see the shorts. We have pants as well we have ski pants we have hats we have bucket hats we have uh you know we have cargo hats i don't know if you guys have seen those but they're hats with pockets and they got the tail in the back of course um but yeah and
Starting point is 00:23:38 and and you know we just feel like you know we're doing some cross promotion stuff with supreme we're doing stuff with the hundreds. Um, we have a Tony, the tiger tie in, uh, we have a tiger woods tie in. He's a quarter Asian.
Starting point is 00:23:51 I don't know if you guys know that, but, uh, he's, he's, uh, um, he's actually suing me as well.
Starting point is 00:23:55 He's Cabellan Asian. Yes. He's Cabellan Asian. We think we're going to work it out. So he has, we have a tiger woods hat that has a quarter of a tail because it's a, he's a quarter. So he is,
Starting point is 00:24:04 you know, We have a Tiger Woods hat that has a quarter of a tail because he's a quarter. He is suing you for making products that capitalize on the fact that he is a quarter agent to promote your movie. Yes, the Netflix film. Oh, that has no grounds. What grounds? What are his damages? There's no way.
Starting point is 00:24:22 Dude, you're so going to win. I'm going gonna get his green jacket is what I've been told by my attorneys is that he's using that as collateral wow Hollywood Handbook hey guys support for today's show comes from Dashlane
Starting point is 00:24:39 Dashlane makes everything you do online easier you can fill out forms fast remember all your passwords and keep your online data accessible and safe with this all-in-one app. Even safely remembers and autofills all your login information so you won't get slowed down by forgotten or misspelled passwords. The spelling issue, I do want to just like sort of shine a light on, you know, something really brave my friend Sean did was talk about being LD. Not Larry David guys yeah and so that is actually you saying that might seem like a joke but I do want to talk about a moment that
Starting point is 00:25:13 you've shared with me which is you this is not really related to passwords necessarily but you showing up to a new school and your parents telling the teacher that you were ld and then them putting you in the class for larry davids yes and being so embarrassed that you actually stayed in the larry davids class for the entire year i didn't correct i didn't correct the teacher when they would say, well, you're LD. So you, of course, will have an observation about where chewing gum should be stuck or what proper etiquette is actually stupid versus what you think should be done more often and i would just struggle like i'm doing now to come up with any any specific take or example and and just being in a class with all these kids who are basically like miniature versions of larry david yes just like shining in this environment no because they are total naturals larry babies they're fish in water and i was um like a uh something else in water i mean larry david would be able to come up with
Starting point is 00:26:43 the perfect thing but i was like... You were actually kind of like... Not a... I guess a book in water. Or you're like a Larry David in water. No, that's right. Yes, it's interesting. It is the kind of thing that would happen to Larry David. Ironically,
Starting point is 00:27:01 by struggling... So you learned something from... And being completely out of my element due to a sort of verbal misunderstanding, I was the most like Larry David in the class because I was the least like Larry David. It's interesting. Plus, it works across devices. You can access your accounts no matter what device you're using, computer or phone. Starting point is 00:29:05 i wonder if they spotted a spider web or something they're trying to pull down the spider down yeah but i've seen this too after a lot of dates and i need i need and have needed something like babble to figure out what the heck is this person doing with their finger because it looks like a it looks like an emergency i know i'm supposed to do something or how about those people that stand in the street they're kind of like they've got like almost like police clothes on it may be almost yeah and they're standing in the middle and as i'm driving and i'm cruising they're standing in the middle. And as I'm driving and I'm cruising, they're holding their hand up for like a high five almost. And they're really aggressively pushing it out. And I'm like, am I supposed to pull over and get out of the car?
Starting point is 00:29:54 Yes. Or just do it out the window as I'm going. That's what I've been doing. That seems dangerous. Starting point is 00:33:54 the phone with customer service. The subscriptions are insidious. They're the scourge of our modern life. And you never realize what you're subscribing to or that you're still being charged i know that i was about 19 dresses into receiving each one of the 27 dresses from the movie 27 dresses before i found out how much it was costing yes that they intended to send me by the way you'll this will shock you 54 dresses if i did not cancel and i you know by like dress 14 15 i think it starts to become clear like these aren't the dresses oh no they were not from the movie they didn't resemble anything from the movie they were not they were either way too big or way too small for a human to wear yeah
Starting point is 00:34:47 and one of them was a dressing yeah one of them was it was it was a vinaigrette it was a raspberry vinaigrette it was a french raspberry vinaigrette dressing oh they'll even try to get you a refund for the last couple months of wasted money and negotiate to lower your bills for you by up to 20%. All you have to do is take a picture of your bill and Rocket Money takes care of the rest. They have over 5 million users and have helped save its members an average of $720 a year with over $500 million in canceled subscriptions. And that was, I mean, just to be fully transparent, that 500 million was most of that was i mean just to be fully transparent that 500 million was most of that was the the dresses well yeah i mean you're talking about hollywood memorabilia you're talking about like ornate gowns you know in some cases and so that was uh
Starting point is 00:35:39 yeah that was costing me a lot a lot a lot stop wasting money on things you don't use cancel your unwanted subscriptions by going to rocket money.com slash the boys that's rocket money.com slash the boys rocket money.com slash the boys hollywood handbook hi sam hi engineer sam hi guys how is everyone engineer sam i've noticed this is the first time you've engineered a show i am noticing that you're uh and obviously commenting on zoom backgrounds is is hack and so that's why i'm doing it uh but you sit in front of a framed american flag and an axe yeah it's it's an old flag i got at a flea market, and then it was my grandfather's axe
Starting point is 00:36:28 that I brought through the Milwaukee airport. Okay, so obviously Tiger Tail's got me in the mood to read into symbolism. Are you threatening to chop up the flag? I want to chop up the Patriot. Okay, and that is represented by... Can I see who is in the photo? I think I know who it is, but can you just move your camera
Starting point is 00:36:50 so I can see? Yes, if you can guess, it's a bit obscure. It's a bit obscure. I was going to say, yeah, Pee Wee Herman. Oh, yeah, it is, actually. Yeah, there it is. Yeah, that's Pee Wee Herman. Oh.
Starting point is 00:37:02 So Pee Wee Herman. I forget you guys are like deep cut comedy guys. Well, and then when you scroll around the room, do you see all of Paul Reubens' roles? Like, is it just every Paul Reubens character? I have a blow-themed bathroom. And then the back part of my fridge is his cameo in Blues Brothers. Okay. Where is, of course, in Mystery Men.
Starting point is 00:37:24 Mystery Men Mystery Men I have one shelf for that and then below that where he played Spleen is Terry's every once in a while Spleen would release a special episode from behind the paywall
Starting point is 00:37:38 that was his super power ahead of his time what if he pulled his butt cheeks and then he said, welcome to Marwen? I don't know. Is that too much? I don't know if he would do, if Spleen would do that. I think Keenan and Kel are in that.
Starting point is 00:38:01 Just Kel is, yeah. I mean, it's possible that Keenan is in it. It's got it all. It's possible that keenan is it's got it all it's got paul rubens it's got cal it's got tom waits watch mystery men that's right tom waits uh the not so goody mob is in it i hate to turn this tiger tail thing into strigley into a mystery conversation but it seems like sam's steering it that way. I'd say you're going to be lost if you watch Tiger Tail first. I would say Paul Rubens' most iconic role.
Starting point is 00:38:32 You know? I did say, I did see someone the other day posting that they had watched the All-Star video, the Smash Mouth All-Star video, and say, like, wow wow they got so many famous people to be in this video who's in it it's a all-star was like in it's from the movie mystery
Starting point is 00:38:56 men and so it's just clips from the movie that is a lot of people that's yeah they're like ben stiller they got him to be in the all-star video is mystery men the one where ben stiller's role where he the where he's angry mr furious right yeah yeah yeah i guess you could say mr furious is uh is angry yeah sure I like when he does that. I like when he's angry instead of funny. Shade. Hi, Kevin. There's a bowling ball in that movie. Hi, Chef Kevin. They're sort of changing the way we look at bowling.
Starting point is 00:39:39 Chef Kevin, talk about how you viewed bowling before and after Mystery Men. Chef Kevin, talk about how you viewed bowling before and after Mystery Men. Well, before I just thought it was like a lame sport that losers played. And then when I watched Mystery Men, it actually is now something I try to do every day, which has been difficult with the lockdown because I have to sneak into the bowling alleys. Me and Darius try to sneak in, get a quick game in. Alan, I wasn't sure if I was going to let Kevin do this, but he actually does have some questions for you. He is actually working on a project kind of about his own ancestry and sort of the difficulties of growing up, being part of the family that owned the Mayflower.
Starting point is 00:40:31 Talk about this, Kevin. Yeah, I'm all ears. I'm all ears. It sounds like a promising project. I mean, we're in pre-production, so we're open to ideas. Pre-pro during COVID, very bold move. Might be a little bit of a lengthy pre-pro, frankly. I feel bad for your line producer. Those dates are going to be real uncertain. No, his family has a health insurance empire.
Starting point is 00:40:58 And so basically they can get anyone to work under any conditions. Yes. They also own a giant biosphere where you can shoot inside, right? So that's... No one knows about it, of course, but it's been here since the Mayflower. Kevin, now you had
Starting point is 00:41:17 leaked to me a little bit of a working title that I didn't... I don't know how official this is yet, but you wanted to call it White tiger tail because there is a famous, you know, white bangle is a specific breed and, um, it's a green Roy worked with them. So it's not, it's not totally out of line, I guess, but I talk about how you came up with that. Uh, you know,
Starting point is 00:41:44 what it means to you and to your family I mean I was checking out Netflix and I have like an algorithm I heard the merch for White Tiger Tales being done by Vineyard Vines and Tommy Bahama so it's a great cross promotion Vineyard Vines and Tommy Bahama.
Starting point is 00:42:06 So it's a great cross promotion. Vineyard Vines X Tommy Bahama. Yeah. X L.L. Bean. I mean, it's a crazy collabo. It's really just, it's got the White Tiger Tail in the back. It's boat shoes with the Tiger Tails. It's salmon shorts, salmon colored shorts. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:27 It's got it all we were merch first uh and then i was you know checking out uh netflix titles i have an algorithm where i put white in front of the movie uh and see which one sticks and uh yeah white tiger tail like looked really promising it's like when i made a movie called chicks and then the wayans brothers made white chicks yeah same it's the same formula yeah it's the same point yeah yeah equally good movies good chicks was fucking great another small meditative family movie about an asian american family i don't know if it didn't you know well kevin made you know i i've known kevin for a few years now and i remember when he was working on white bright and white bird box and uh a couple of other projects that i haven't seen the finish i'm still but yeah i'm still looking forward to white black landsman um it's a it's it's it's been a fraught
Starting point is 00:43:20 production but they're yeah you know again there i think you're also in pre-production on that pre-production and a lot of things it's really really impressive really in development you know all your imdb it's like in development you know having seen uh a lot of the merch um if i could give a note on one of the uh the promotional products uh the smallpox blanket that your family uh of course invented and uh did uh create their initial uh like financial empire uh on the back of uh i don't know if that's something that people will necessarily want to own in their homes even like a like a fake promotional one i don't know what is the what what is the thinking there um well it's a it's a weighted blanket um okay crushing weighted blanket it's a lot heavier than people think it is it gets heavier as you wear it um so we are
Starting point is 00:44:22 going to get rid of that because of the complaints. It's just regular blanket now. It's weighted by impression, right? It's weighted by impression. That's what it's full of. That's also in pre-production, the blanket. The blanket is in pre-pro. The line producer is
Starting point is 00:44:42 stressing. Hi, Sean. Hi. I love an outside record kevin you should let us record outside every day when if it's nice we should be allowed to record outside i'm sure it helps the sound quality basically, the garage has been a non-starter. But inside the house, also currently, is not a possibility for me. It's always good for sound. You just want more atmosphere.
Starting point is 00:45:18 You want people to feel like they're not there in the room with you, but they're there sort of on the deck with you. They're not there in the room with you, but they're there sort of on the deck with you. And it's so funny when you're inside the house, you lose so much texture where a helicopter could fly overhead and you would have no idea when listening to the recording of like there's no sense of time or place. Or a cat could get mad at you or a squirrel could drop something or a bug could land on you and as an engineer it saves me time normally it takes me a good i love a sentence being interrupted with the phrase as an engineer it sometimes takes me up to two hours to go back in and put outside noises in your normal podcast so this this cuts it down substantially for me no you're gonna get a lot of really authentic stuff there's been some flies uh i like to add sounds of people dropping quarters near their microphone oh that's hot
Starting point is 00:46:18 throughout an episode yang did you ever record in the Earwolf Studios? No, I don't think I did. Oh, dude, you should have been there, man. Those were the days, huh? Yes. It's basically Sound City. That was on and popping. So you just walk in, full of
Starting point is 00:46:39 greens, yellows, whites. So you just grab a handful roll into the studio richter's there just like the scene man like it'll never ever ever be like that again you could not do that today. Those days are over. It's basically 70s SNL and then 2019 Earwolf is what you're saying. It's just those are the two. It's like those eras. Just like, good luck. Good luck recreating that. Good luck.
Starting point is 00:47:18 You can try. And they have. Yeah. You got Belushi dying in the corner. The same thing. Same thing. Please. Forever Dog is mad TV.
Starting point is 00:47:30 I hate to say it. I don't want to be the one to call their ass out. Forever Dog is mad TV. Yes. They're trying to capture something that we already did. And they're being pretty funny doing it. Yeah. And it's pretty good and
Starting point is 00:47:45 it might be better yeah and what we'll see years from now is that a lot of the people involved in that actually are maybe better than some of the people involved in the other thing yes i look forward to the get out of whatever forever dogs alumni make it's just a different genre just blows your mind and you look back you're like oh wow you know that was oh yeah it was there all along it was there all along it was miss swan get out kevin is white get out uh in pre-pro still or is is that in the can uh that's in the can uh yeah we shot that a while ago um, I have a huge favor to ask of you. Have you already, do you know if they've already recorded the Parks and Recreation lockdown episode?
Starting point is 00:48:33 Oh, that's in the can, baby. That's in the can. They did it before. No, they knew this was coming. They seeded the disease so they could do this special. Yes. I thought they used one of your blankets, Kevin. Yes, they did.
Starting point is 00:48:52 Is it too late to give Sean and Hayes a role? Like, could we stick us, maybe the three of us in the... What about... Because they haven't released it yet. They haven't released it yet. Is there a scene now that just gets plugged in? I mean, it's going to look like this anyway, right? Yeah. It will look worse than this.
Starting point is 00:49:04 Yes, it will look worse than this. It's being being shot they sent them worse phones to shoot it on i don't know why you know it's a budget thing but gotta match it yes gotta match gotta match the worst phone gotta match jim o'hare's phone so so at you they they're sending they're sending chris pratt an ipod shuffle to shoot it on it's it essentially, yeah, it's going to look bad. I wonder how they will balance doing jokes about Jerry, who is the most medically vulnerable person. I mean, you're assuming that Jerry's in it and he hasn't passed away from the disease.
Starting point is 00:49:39 I don't want to spoil anything, but I wouldn't speak too soon there. The first six minutes of the episode are just a full moment of silence for Jerry. Have you guys ever seen a Zoom funeral? Because you're about to. I mean, it's sad. It's sad, but it's poignant. I hope those coffin dancing guys are in it.
Starting point is 00:50:01 Oh, yeah. From the meme? Yeah. Did you get them? Their quote was too high. they did a guest spot they did a guest spot on superstore and the president was just too high there's a zoom superstore couldn't get them what's next yang so uh somebody else's uh oh hey here's a really good idea it goes now in the the daughter the daughter is now the grandma and it's in future mode and it's in the future and the flashbacks are present day but we still shoot them instead of 16 millimeter film we shoot them on like
Starting point is 00:50:47 two millimeter and so it's just it's so tiny you basically don't know what's happening it's all grain so you know it's so the millimeters are so small that you what i would like if the screen shrinks too so it's just a little pinprick in the middle of it we are talking about the voices are very quiet it's sort of like horton here's a who it's exactly like that me and ted surround us are talking about it um it's a new technology they have to send everyone in the country a new roku for that to work but it might be worth it it might be worth it and she had to emigrate of course um to the planet venus yes uh and like obviously you can't say venus for like copyright reasons so like uh probably venus probably that
Starting point is 00:51:36 she emigrated to the planet venus uh and because of course venus venus will Venus Williams would sue us, right? Venus Williams, the Venus Razors. I mean, Val Venus would probably be pretty upset. He spent a lot of time building that brand. And the fact that she's a lady and his catchphrase is, ladies, that is going to be really stepping on his toes. So I would rather avoid it altogether. really stepping on his toes. I would rather avoid it altogether.
Starting point is 00:52:07 I wonder if she should live in Venus, but she wants to go to Jupiter. We have Venus. What are you going to call Venus? Sorry. Venus? If she lives in Venus, but she wants to go to Jupiter
Starting point is 00:52:22 to get more stupider. That could be an interesting generational divide. Maybe the grandchild wants to go to Jupiter to get more stupider. Yeah, I think that's Tiger Tail 3. I think that's, there it is. There it is. And you have the trilogy. Unlike, you know, I won't name certain trilogies, but we have the plan.
Starting point is 00:52:42 We know what the last shot of the third movie is. And we have a in place there's no sort of backtracking it's like you know what you want trigger tail and and then now i see kevin writing down the words white trigger tail so he's already he's already on it i mean you can you you can count on him to always oh no he's mailing it to himself he's just now it's irreversible he's calling the wga for copyright he's getting that printed on the cover it's just a it's just a index card but he's calling it a script well that sounds like uh that sounds like a really good movie um we are uh still doing the show i just want to ask our fans uh we are still doing this podcast um we're gonna do it again uh next week i think uh and we're gonna keep doing it uh after that is there any i can't wait
Starting point is 00:53:43 to see where I end up. Like, I'm excited now for where I will be next week when we record it. I want to see a Venusian background. I want to see something in the background that I've just never seen before. Yeah. Venusian, yes. Venusian, yeah. Venusian.
Starting point is 00:54:01 Venusian. No, you're saying it. You're so close. You're saying it You're so close You're saying it almost correctly The thing about the word is no one has ever said it correctly It's a word that's never been pronounced correctly By anyone My wife's taking a picture of me
Starting point is 00:54:16 Who is? My wife Nice It's like I'm Some sort of comedy prop for her do you ever get treated this way in your own home or outside your home i guess just on the back deck what what you look ridiculous. Tony's here. There's a kitty cat. Yeah, that's Tony. Anyway.
Starting point is 00:54:52 Yeah, tiger tail, right? Cat. There's a real tiger tail. Yeah. So, anyway, thanks for getting together with us getting high with us i loved it man i loved it um you know getting higher i would say because i think we all know what was going before we started recording so no we all started yeah we all started pretty um uh pretty cheaped out pretty ganja ganja gooby i pretty ganja goobied.
Starting point is 00:55:27 I was ganja goobalt to the max. I was fucking I was Z-O-O-O-O-T-E-D X-Glam, X-Glam, Triple X-Glam, question mark? Interrobang? Interrobong? I was Chinandlerbonged.
Starting point is 00:55:49 I was... Bye. Bye. Hollywood Handbook. That was a HeadGum Podcast.
