Starting point is 00:00:00 this is a head gum podcast swing around uh i was on a swing going back and forth i was with ruth here comes haze and sean uh kramer ruth kramer remind me and now you set us up huh so remind me what her like what her deal is she went to high school with me um we were in the aries theater class which was a class it was like a separate class during school time where you did like put on a play that ultimately got performed in the theater um the weekend that we did our show, The Boy Who Could Fly, I, of course, played the titular boy who could fly.
Starting point is 00:01:12 Part of the effect we had was there was a seesaw behind a bed frame. I would stand on that with my arms and then some stagehands would lower the seesaw, which would then raise me on the stage. And I would try not to wobble too much, but I certainly would wobble quite a bit. No one was in the audience for our show.
Starting point is 00:01:35 It coincided with the Relay for Life all-night marathon where people would walk to raise money for uh the uh the ill and during the relay for life there was a horrible thunderstorm and it rained so hard that everyone came in to watch uh almost the entire first act of the play then there was an intermission uh so they came in late they came in about five minutes in then they watched up until intermission then at intermission it stopped raining and everyone did leave and we did the second half of the play to an empty theater uh ruth kramer wore very clicky shoes that clicked very loud.
Starting point is 00:02:26 Mm-hmm. Here I come, she says. Ryan Duff did sort of a mean impression where he would, like, click his shoes and, like, be Ruth. I don't remember what. Maybe he put, like, bottle caps on the bottom of his feet or something to like do the Ruth impression. But anyway,
Starting point is 00:02:48 Ruth was a, yeah, she was in Aries theater with me. Okay. Well, I like she and I, cause you like, you put us together and I was like,
Starting point is 00:02:58 let's go to the adult playground. Let's go to the, like the playground when it's like closed off after hours where um just like yeah the adult playground it's the adult playground is is the children's playground it's just yes yes yes it's just off hours yes and you could crack a brew in there and you can get and you can completely twisted yeah yes and you can hit the different like uh the obstacle course like harder basically oh yeah because you don't have to worry about bowling over some little twerp And you can hit the different, like, the obstacle course, like, harder, basically. Oh, yeah, because you don't have to worry about bowling over some little twerp.
Starting point is 00:03:29 Right. But she was having me. That's so interesting. Stand on the seesaw. And she was like, would you mind just, like, standing on the one side of just, like, getting another guy to, like, just lift you up a little bit? And you put your arm straight out yeah uh and i'll just like sit i'll sit here and i'll watch but i think it was more about she ended up going home with the
Starting point is 00:03:54 other guy okay did you do a stage kiss with her no i did oh No, I did a like a real kiss. Like a real kiss. Yeah. Not me. Not me. What do you want to do? Do you want to do that? You want to talk to these guys?
Starting point is 00:04:18 Okay. Yeah. So I have a way to introduce this guest. So Jeremy and Rajat can have a little podcast guesting sometimes as a treat that's great that's awesome and they're on hollywood handbook and this is a big uh exciting thing for them to be doing uh they are sort of young upstarts in the comedy community they what they're exploding they're blowing it up they're exploding the entire comedy scene they're taking what you thought you knew about laughter and they're inverting it and uh they're really flipping
Starting point is 00:05:03 it and reversing it and they do these videos um who are some of the people who have quote retweeted you and what did they say i don't know i don't yeah we don't we don't jeremy's give me give me some laney one millennia what'd he say millennia said god jeremy and rajat uh always make very very funny videos that's right something along those lines and uh and just for some context on what mulaney is i saw on his netflix uh comedy description for his special new in town last night it was he looks harmless but he's actually a murderer not really his jokes just kill as soon as he gets on stage he says that in the special i think yeah yeah he says that okay that's the whole that's almost the entire special okay because he keeps saying it and it it gets laughed over the end of it gets laughed over and he goes, let me get the whole thing out, guys.
Starting point is 00:06:06 But he's not able to for about like 40, 45 minutes. Rajat, are you worried at all that during quarantine, other people will be able to adopt your signature hairstyle? Yeah, it's definitely crossed my mind because i'm going i'm looking at me and the zoom and i'm going a couple more weeks of this i'm gonna look like you exactly yeah no i've been seeing like on my walks i've been seeing people with this hair with long hair yeah what are you gonna do i'm gonna i've i like been stocking up on razors to shave people in their snow yeah you did that what's up you really did that yeah yeah you know like i mean
Starting point is 00:06:54 people stock up on other things toilet paper i think you've heard of this have you guys heard of this people stocking up on toilet paper yeah you've heard of that yeah yeah so i stocking up on toilet paper? Yeah. You've heard of that? Mm-hmm. Yeah, yeah. So I stocked up on razors. Sorry to interrupt. You were asking Jeremy. I'm sorry to interrupt. I've heard of that. You've heard of that?
Starting point is 00:07:10 All right. Everyone? I've heard of that, too. You've heard of that haze? Yeah. You heard of it. Cool. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:18 Yeah. So basically, instead of toilet paper, I stocked up on razors for the hair thing yeah well because people have been stocking up on toilet paper right you guys have heard of that right to shave again but you've been doing it to shave other people but that would be like you were stocking up on toilet paper to to to wipe other people's butts right that would that's what would make it the same thing i yeah yeah that was sort of why i was hesitant to jump in and even say i had heard of it right away when you first asked if we had of course i have heard of it right but there's another level at which i haven't or i don't see
Starting point is 00:07:57 how it applies yeah i still don't get what you guys are talking about uh razors stock up on razors to hairstyle can we talk about so obviously with this new attention from john mulaney um a lot of discussion on uh industry websites and things like that that there is uh one slot left in the sack lunch bunch and that he is uh sort of eyeballing the two of you but of course there's only room for one so what has there what has been that has there been any conversation internally like do you guys talk about this or is it just like is there tension there whatever happens happens yeah what's the system through which you would select is it like obviously like whoever gets it gets it and like we both talked totally we'd be happy for you'd be happy for one another
Starting point is 00:08:50 yeah i mean yeah it's it's all good either way like and do you have any indication of who he's leaning toward or has he reached out to one of you or um you know we haven't talked about that but i mean like if jeremy was the last member in the sack lunch bunch like that would be so good for him well he reached out to me and not rajat um really that's true but it wasn't it was just to like chat it wasn't he didn't say anything specific we were just shooting the shit for a while. It wasn't like an official interview. No, no. Did he mention the Sack Lunch Bunch at all?
Starting point is 00:09:32 Yeah, a lot. Mine probably got lost in the mail or something. Or like in the internet. Probably got lost. Did you guys watch anything on Netflix last night last night yeah did you Netflix party
Starting point is 00:09:51 I was on Hulu I watched devs okay you guys watch this just so interesting to come on this show and your wolf show and say that you didn't watch between two ferns the movie last night
Starting point is 00:10:07 all right it's just like so it's not what i would do it's an interesting choice what i would do but it's it's it's effective in its way yeah no it's a clear signal i mean we love
Starting point is 00:10:23 i just i've watched it before yeah yeah and we love it okay you didn't like it no i we really liked it didn't like it enough to watch it again last night well you know you're coming on here there's an earwolf show right does scott listen to this i mean scott has access to it he might if if actually even one person came out and said that they watched between two friends a movie last night yeah last night you specifically need it to be like the night before the podcast they need to watch it well it's got to be fresh in your mind that's true yeah that makes sense no i really like cameos and stuff yeah what do i didn't even what part?
Starting point is 00:11:05 I liked how much the setting was a part of the movie, like just to see some of those landscapes and just the in-between moments where Zach is like just like standing around it by his car and he's like sad that it didn't. What's the town? What's the town where he records his show? No, Arizona. That's not a town. It's a town where he records oh my god his show no arizona that's not a town it's a town some yeah phoenix is barely feels like a town right phoenix is huge the answer is the answer is flinch north carolina flinch flinch the answer is flinch north carolina too right lynching brett what did you watch last night
Starting point is 00:11:48 i watched um between two ferns a couple times the movie the movie oh that's right and the whole because i saw you there oh yeah i knew you watched that because i saw you there you were in my netflix party that's right and the chat was silent because we were both so locked in on the fucking film kevin what did you watch last night uh between two ferns the movie i was also that's right i had to mute myself because i was saying the lines out loud and yeah it's like distracting and yeah certainly you'll mute the movie you have to mute yourself kevin and leah so like this is like i don't want to say too much but kevin and leah never make it all the way through between two friends the movie they've yet to see the ending or no wait they've
Starting point is 00:12:39 seen the ending but they missed the same like four minutes in the middle all the time but it's a pass like kevin gets a little like head up like is how he said and so like we can see at the zoo party he like kind of sashays off to the other room you see one finger come out from the room and do a little like beckon long finger long novelty finger at the end of a broomstick and it sort of keeps sliding back towards the bedroom like this is where and then it usually falls off the broomstick and then he like scurries out and like reattaches it and then he goes and hides in the bedroom again did anyone else retweet a video and say something i know me i'm not like driving at anyone specific i just like who uh i i guess i noticed uh sean did oh and okay you trying to remember if you did i don't think so actually you could check yeah i guess you didn't
Starting point is 00:13:47 probably didn't no i probably didn't check yeah all i did was freaking go to your college jeremy and actually teach you about what comedy is and how to do it and maybe yeah sorry i didn't over fucking like hit a button for you from my. I actually went all the way to your college and did a lecture series for you. Gave you food, right? Really sorry. Yeah, you gave me a tiny little piece of food. You got sushi.
Starting point is 00:14:19 You got me to go all the way to your college. I guess sushi is smaller than other kinds of food. It's the tiniest little piece of food it's the smallest food expensive food pretty much yeah you're getting more per like little piece that's tiny you walk all the way up the stairs to the college yeah you gotta walk upstairs to get to the college great lots of stairs what is this video what's what like what's talk about the video let's talk about the video because people aren't gonna know what the fuck we're talking about when we say that you guys are here yeah they're not
Starting point is 00:14:56 gonna know what the fuck we mean but when we talk about the video now you've got their attention that's right is that oh is that bumping out this is it right here okay so brett has shared his screen and i'm able to see the screen as well oh watch again okay and look at number one number one trend for brett hashtag why i'm not voting for joe uh don't look at my trend number two trend for brett bill bill this isn't for me number four trend for brett rust in peace oh hell yeah that's a megadeth album classic oh do we so i i mean like i don't know if i need to watch this whole thing maybe it can just be described to me that we have so here he's got this video it says snl must not hire rajat right so he's got this video up so you guys made this yeah we made exactly you know what is what is happened? Well, if you remember in September, Shane Gillis, a stand-up, was hired on SNL.
Starting point is 00:16:13 Gillis? Sorry. Right. Yeah. Yeah. Gillis? Yes. Sorry.
Starting point is 00:16:21 Right. That's good. And he got fired beforel the show as snl right yeah um kristen wick but you guys did something else based on that but we did something exactly yeah we did something else not based on gilly um it's gillis shane gillis shane gillis yeah right there was a video that went viral of shane gillis uh on his podcast kind of riffing and being racist and we did our own little spin on that right uh-huh what'd you say we like mainly what did we say what did we say like we like talked about like stuff like doors and things yeah yeah why why did you do that why did you do it what do you mean yeah what are you
Starting point is 00:17:13 talking about what do you mean why did you make the video why did you do that i don't understand actually why so uh well uh well maybe i should back. So you're actually on the premiere episode of Hayes and My New Podcast. Uh-huh. And it is called Why Did This Get Made? And we go through some of the most insane, fucked up, so stupid, they're awesome videos and movies. And we try to figure out. And we love this shit. Like, it's not like, we're not making fun of it. No. Like out and we love this shit like it's not like we're not making fun
Starting point is 00:17:45 of it like like we live for this shit and like this stuff is actually to us better than stuff that's like yeah it's better than kind of feels like uh so bad it's good attitude right but it's like no it's like no it's like it's so fucked up sometimes it's it's like it's awesome yeah it feels like you're owning like but that's our video but we choose to watch it you know what i mean are you guys owning us or what what is this no it's no we're asking a question which i would hope you would be the people to answer. Right. Why did this get made?
Starting point is 00:18:29 I guess to, like, make fun of Shane Gillis and, like, kind of shine a light on. But would you agree that I just did that probably much more effectively? And cheaper. It didn't cost any money. Yeah, right. It didn't cost any money yeah right you didn't cost any money zero it didn't even cost one cent it's a two camera video right we used our iphone iphones yeah oh yeah okay and iphones are just freaking growing on trees now yeah and now you say to a working class coal miner that iphone doesn't actually cost any money to me no we didn't no i wouldn't say that not to a coal miner at least just own it own it
Starting point is 00:19:12 you're rich you're rich yeah this yeah we had to we bought two we went all over the video yeah then we bought two iphones to do the audio as well yeah that's true and all the furniture actually we bought as well on the video good they're admitting it and who retweeted that well who retweeted that uh judd apatow we got judd apatow yeah that's right yeah apatow for destruction brett do you like that appetite apatow for destruction judd appetite yes i do love that that's good i don't think he would retweet that if he tweeted it though seems like something brett would like more than he did were you not listening to the show? I'm sorry.
Starting point is 00:20:07 I was on my Russ and Peace hashtag. Just geeking out. From before? You said Apatow for destruction? I did say that. You see that cartoon Viking avatar show up in your notifications? What you doing? What? W-I-D. in your notifications what you do it what wyd your girls out of town do you see that kind of gray pencil sketch cartoon viking like your menchies what you do it what you do it
Starting point is 00:20:41 so so this isn't the only video of course that you guys made no yeah we've done other stuff yeah yeah yeah let's talk about that what's the other one oh you got all the tabs yeah it's. This is like you were doing this before. Ah, okay. So this one. All right. So this one is, I saw this shit. That's great.
Starting point is 00:21:13 You guys made this one. Talk about why. And what is it? What happened? Well, what happened in it? What happened? Oh, wow. You want me to explain it? I don't need to see it i don't need to see it brett i have them right here i have them right here the guys are here
Starting point is 00:21:31 oh did you i mean did you watch it yeah it's pretty it's basically all in front of you yeah but so like we get the freaking director of the famous movie on our show and we're like, so tell us about this. And they're like, did you watch it? It's like, yeah, I guess. Are you two? All right. Oh yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:56 Go ahead. I mean, I can describe it if you want. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I do. Yeah. Oh, all right. Well, I guess this was like a parody
Starting point is 00:22:09 of these Ben Shapiro owns compilations that are on YouTube. Exactly. Yeah. Yeah. No, you basically got it. Do you want me to keep going? It's a parody.
Starting point is 00:22:23 Yeah, I guess so. Right. So it's making fun of successful people again? Well, that's sort of the job of satire. Exactly, yeah. We like send up people, frontline satirists. Why? I don't think I understand the question again
Starting point is 00:22:48 what are you trying to it's confusing I love I mean I love this shit I watch this all the time it's one of my favorite things but why did this get made right
Starting point is 00:23:04 yeah why why did this get made right yeah um i guess just like we said like comfort the afflicted are you guys acting weird hey are they acting weird they're acting so weird are we acting we're acting weird right now just be normal just be cool man like you're weirding me out. We're like really... Just be regular. It's making me uncomfortable. I mean, like, it's good that you guys call it out because we're always looking to improve ourselves.
Starting point is 00:23:34 It's not calling... We're not calling anything out. All we say is, why did you do this? Like... It's calling out to you? I don't know how to answer that question. I'm calling your calling your ass out yeah it seems like the questions are all getting really hard question it's like too confusing it's like why did you uh give me uh give me why did you do uh episode four of ghosted lockdown oh well as the artist who created episode 104 Lockdown, which was also a bit of a parody and a satire and captured some of the motifs from films like Alien Movie.
Starting point is 00:24:15 I did it because I was being paid an outrageous amount of money. And that's what drives me. The amount of money was simply vulgar. It was obscene. It's too unmentionable for an all-ages podcast.
Starting point is 00:24:38 I'm afraid that a child could be in the car while someone's listening to this, hear the amount of money, attack their parent, and both of them would die in a fiery wreck because the money was disgusting. And so that caused me to, of course, make lockdown. We'd be the victims of a crusade from Tipper Gore where we'd have mentioned even the even the single digit what's this money hayes why did you make this show divorce why did i make the show divorce uh it's handling a subject that is i was previously taboo uh and hadn't been treated with both the sensitivity and the dramatic half,
Starting point is 00:25:25 but also the comedy that's inherent in the subject. So when the void exists for material like this, go ahead and fill it. Yeah. Group people. And am I correct in asserting Hayes that they backed up the fucking truck for you? The amount of money would make you absolutely throw up.
Starting point is 00:25:49 To make the show divorce. Yes. So that's it. Oh, well, that's a pretty good reason. Yeah. And it allowed me to do basically social work, charity work, like when I was in New York going to a college to for free, or I guess in exchange for like a tiny little piece of food that dissolved on
Starting point is 00:26:10 my tongue. Well, I don't know about that. After walking up all the stairs, is that right? Yeah. After walking up all the, all the stairs of college,
Starting point is 00:26:20 Hayes was a bit of a diva actually to teach a little boy. I, I email him. I go, we're actually going to order food. Do you have any dietary restrictions? He Facebook messaged me as a matter of fact. He still is on Facebook, even with everything Facebook has done. All the stuff they're tracking. No, no, no. This was not about that. was five years ago he's a zucker stan before facebook did anything that was bad they did really good stuff then five years ago i think well that was when they were saving comedy with their views exact yeah the view counts were outrageously high yeah inflated yeah well that well inflate gate right exactly i guess you guess you guess no guesswork involved
Starting point is 00:27:12 man i just fucking told you the answer you don't have to guess you're welcome i took that part away you guess all right thank you and what did I say when I had any dietary restrictions? Did I only eat food that's a little piece? Is that what I said? Nothing too big? No. You were like, I'm a vegetarian, but I eat fish. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:40 Did I say I only eat a tiny little fish? I eat a huge fish. I've seen this guy take down a school of carp. Call me freaking John August because I'm making big fish. Fish, baby. All right. We'll call you that. We'll call you that.

Starting point is 00:31:45 mean when you drop someone off after a nice date and they turn around at the door and they take their little index finger and they kind of like draw it towards them they're pulling it what does that mean does their whole finger hurt i wonder if they spotted a spider web or something they're trying to pull down the spider down yeah but i've seen this too after a lot of dates and i need i need and have needed something like babble to figure out what the heck is this person doing with their finger because it looks like a it looks like an emergency i know i'm supposed to do something or how about those people that stand in the street they're kind of like they've got like almost like police clothes on it may be almost yeah and they're standing in the middle and as i'm driving and i'm cruising they're holding their hand up for like a high five almost. And they're really
Starting point is 00:32:46 aggressively pushing it out. And I'm like, am I supposed to drive by a car or just do it at the window as I'm going? That's what I've been doing. Dangerous. Yeah. But some of these very subtle body language cues have escaped me and many listeners. I'm sure. With Babbel, we can't promise it'll always be easy, but you'll always be glad you did it. Kind of like this podcast, except it is easy for me. Hey, guys.
Starting point is 00:34:15 Rocket Money is a personal finance app that finds and cancels your unwanted subscriptions, monitors your spending, and helps lower your bills. You can see all your subscriptions in one place, and if I see something I don't want i can cancel it with a tap i never have to get on the phone with customer service the subscriptions are insidious they're the scourge of our modern life and you never realize what you're subscribing to or that you're still being charged i know that i was about 19 dresses into receiving each one of the 27 dresses from the movie 27 dresses before i found out how much it was costing yes that they intended to send me by the way you'll this will shock you 54 dresses if i did not cancel and i you know oh that one's got an end
Starting point is 00:35:04 point by like dress 14 15 i think it starts to become clear like these aren't the dresses oh no they were not from the movie they didn't resemble anything from the movie they were not they were either way too big or way too small for a human to wear yeah and one of them was a dressing yeah one of them was it was it was a vinaigrette it was a raspberry vinaigrette it was a french raspberry vinaigrette dressing they'll even try to get you a refund for the last couple months of wasted money and negotiate to lower your bills for you by up to 20 all you have to do is take a picture of your bill and rocket money takes care of the rest they have over 5 million users and have helped save its members
Starting point is 00:35:49 an average of 720 a year with over 500 million dollars in canceled subscriptions and that was i mean just to be fully transparent that 500 million was most of that was the the dresses well yeah i mean you're talking about hollywood memorabilia you're talking about like ornate gowns you know in some cases and so that was uh yeah that was costing me a lot a lot a lot stop wasting money on things you don't use cancel your unwanted subscriptions by going to rocket money.com slash the boys that's rocketmoney.com slash the boys rocketmoney.com slash the boys hollywood handbook what was it you had a yeah what was the question yeah why'd you do that yeah why did this get made yeah that question's confusing though it's really hard to
Starting point is 00:36:39 oh well no because when i asked hayes why did this got made he just told me exactly why did divorce got made. That was rehearsed. That was rehearsed. No, it wasn't. It was rehearsed. Rehearsed. Please.
Starting point is 00:36:52 I'll put you in a hearse. Yeah, you'll be rehearsed. You'll be six feet under. Yeah. You'll be rehearsed. Hey. Come on. Hey.
Starting point is 00:37:00 Jeremy. You don't attack my friend. Relax. Please. Hey. I have an answer. Jeremy. You don't attack my friend. Relax, please. Hey, I have an answer. Jeremy. We got a dump truck. Yeah, money.
Starting point is 00:37:15 And they dropped our way. It was. No, we got basically a whole dump truck of money. That's right. Into the house the fucking stinking cheddar cheese and it dropped
Starting point is 00:37:30 it was absolutely cheddar and then we were swimming it fell all through the house that's right and we ended up doing a little pool like doing a little swim in the money
Starting point is 00:37:41 doing a little cannonball the money. Yes. Billionaire Boys Club. Swimming in the cash. Doing a little cannonball. Oh, the Kashish Mama. Yes. Yes. That's why this got made. A lot of good years in our history. Were you throwing up? What's that?
Starting point is 00:37:57 Did you throw up when you saw how much? Oh, yeah. There was so much puke. We vomited everywhere. Yeah, it was awesome. Brett, what's a Man Man song? What is one? Future Peg.
Starting point is 00:38:12 Why'd you do that? Why'd you do Future Peg? Why did this got made? That stinky aged Vermont cheddar. You know what I mean? The cheese. I'm feeling nauseous, man, here and about and brett's eating the rind yeah they were like um you know like like planes overhead spraying spraying the money down it was like agent
Starting point is 00:38:36 orange except the orange is cheese carpet bomb that's sick that really brings me back to my last video when that happened for us. Totally. What video was that? Seemed like it was my story. Oh, my God. The one, the redneck video. Yeah. Uh-huh.
Starting point is 00:38:57 Redneck video. Lots of money. Yeah. So much money. So much. That reminded me of lockdown. That was sort of like lockdown where it was like it sets you up with one expectation it kind of tells you exactly what's going to happen
Starting point is 00:39:12 and then pulls the rug out from under you and goes like nope wait it's something else that's happening and the fear that i felt in the adrenaline rush that I had in going through that experience took me back to being on set during the filming of lockdown when I was literally gagging, looking at the number of zeros in my check. Right. And had to go to the hospital. I was so sick from it.
Starting point is 00:39:41 Wow. That's a good thing that didn't happen now. Right. Because of how busy the hospitals are totally yeah i mean we try not to like make light of that no no no yeah we would never yeah no it is a good thing i mean if you're literally just saying that that is a good thing yeah yeah okay i'm just used to it is important though that people goofing a little bit well it's important that people laugh during this time right that's what our videos yeah not necessarily at the hospital's being overwhelmed but right of course no i think it's good to laugh i just don't know if that's what we should laugh at. Hayes, do you... I wasn't trying to. Like, what do you think would be good to laugh at? Right
Starting point is 00:40:25 now? Yeah. I guess maybe someone who is, like, evil and bad, or someone who's, like, intentionally trying to make people sick instead of people that are trying to make them not sick anymore and help them live. Totally.
Starting point is 00:40:42 Yeah. No, I don't think that's sort of what I would prefer to laugh at. That wasn't what I was getting at. I don't think,'s what i would prefer to laugh that wasn't what i was i don't think yeah jeremy's really supportive if anything i was talking about trump and like ben shapiro and ben shapiro like our video rajat how did you feel so like uh not that long before uh the redneck video that was on march 31st jeremy did a video that doesn't have you in it that um uh was like him playing the character chet hayes right and how did you feel when that video didn't do quite as good of numbers yeah and then and then you come back in and you're freaking swinging that big bat the odd deck circle yeah you know i mean like 31st rolls around and that pitch comes in and you're like, wow. Totally.
Starting point is 00:41:27 Yeah. I do think Jeremy still raked in a lot of dough doing the Chet Hayes video. Right. Oh, sure. He's cashing in on the previous success that he's had with you. Right. He owe you some of that. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:42 Right. I don't know. We do separate stuff sometimes. Right. It happens. You know, do you guys you guys i mean i saw the separate one you did i'm not that many people saw it i did happen to see it so like uh like when you wrote lockdown haze was like that like it was up with that down i didn't write i didn't write lockdown course, yes, I punched it up a lot. Totally. Yeah. So how did you feel? Was it your idea?
Starting point is 00:42:08 Hey, sorry. Oh, yeah. I'm trying to remember. Should hash it out. There's sort of a ticking clock element toward the end. And inspired partially by John Carpenter's The Thing, a portion of the creature which was blasted off by leroy when he was with annie carver the weapon specialist uh the portion actually crept away and later when the monster has been seemingly destroyed uh within the giant microwave they create inside the room where they brought
Starting point is 00:42:47 all the extra water cooler water. The building is still about to self-destruct and we're not quite sure why we're still in danger. And I think had the line for barry played by a deal where barry said like something like this calls for a donut or yeah let's celebrate time to make the donut i think i had i had thought maybe he would just reach for the donut and open the donut box. Of course, the extra piece of the creature has morphed now into a dangerous creature of its own, and it's going to burst from the donut box and attach to Adil's neck. It's grown since we've seen it last.
Starting point is 00:43:37 Yeah. Not unlike what happens in John Carpenter's The Thing. Yeah. I thought he could kind of walk over and open the donut box and the creature would burst out and maybe we didn't necessarily need to draw attention to it with him saying like now i'll have a donut yeah but you thought right weren't you like my note was i think i thought this was supposed to be a comedy it's sunday isn't it it's sunday night on fox right i thought we're supposed to be laughing and having fun this is but to be a comedy it's sunday isn't it it's sunday night on fox right i thought we're
Starting point is 00:44:05 supposed to be laughing and having fun this is but are we also supposed to didn't we also want to scare people straight out of their jeans yeah but like i'm already it's already really scary like everything you just described is like so scary can we please just like have one joke in here and then so yeah so we wound up with this joke, which I think is probably the best part of the episode where he goes like something and I'm not getting the wording right, but he says like, now I'll have a donut.
Starting point is 00:44:35 Jeremy and Rajat, have you, did you, you saw that Nick Cirelli and Brad Evans got hired on Jimmy Fallon? We did see that. You saw that? Yeah. And did you think that should have been us?
Starting point is 00:44:50 And if you did, have you ever heard of the concept of doing your time and actually putting the work in? Yeah, I think we do that. We like in like unseen ways, a lot of unseen ways. Yeah, we do a lot of work behind each video. We may not seem like we're putting in the time, but we definitely are. So you're saying that you actually put in the time
Starting point is 00:45:15 on each video, whereas they might have done more videos. Maybe. And they're basically like the frigging Gandalfs the gandalfs of this industry they're like 29 years old which is like this will be dead yeah yeah ancient uh but you guys on each video you're saying put in many more hours than the video takes you a long time yeah it's hard to come up with months and even years into every totally yeah have you thought about earning your stripes before you shoot off at the mouth and disrespect nick and brad oh there's we're
Starting point is 00:46:02 no disrespect nah they're friends. The OGs. And you have the original Giggle Masters. You have a writing job? You guys have a writing job currently? We do, yeah. But there's no Vulture article about it? No Vulture article, no. Okay, interesting.
Starting point is 00:46:19 Oh, that's interesting. Yeah. Because I know I read about Nick and Brad. And that's not why we do what we do no what's your writing job like uh we're on a new cbs all access show okay called tuning and carson and carson was on that show and you're continuing the legacy of johnny carson with that show exactly yeah yeah sort of basically did conan get fired from that show yeah for disrespecting john carson's legacy
Starting point is 00:46:50 there's a rich comedy legacy on tuning out the news that's right yeah the beatles i think they got their start on tuning out the news yeah who's the who tell me about this show uh it's a it's a satire of cable news so why the tree why why why this is confusing i don't i don't understand the question guys i think they i mean why did this for the money I don't know for the money I relate to that yeah probably not that much and you're splitting it right we're not splitting it
Starting point is 00:47:34 it's a dumpster of money it's a dumpster yeah whatever you guys are saying it's like a fucking a dumpster car of just a helicopter dropped off all the money at our house if it was a dumpster car of absolutely just a helicopter dropped off all the money at our house and it was a dumpster fire of money i think i know i think i know what it looked like you've been saying that the 2020 is that
Starting point is 00:47:54 every four years it's a leap year yeah you said that you um were that you had uh like an emergency plan in case you got owned on the show i heard obviously that's not going to to happen but just if it had happened i do want to know what it what it was right right um so is this... Are you going to own me right after I say this so that you're prepared? Right, we've disarmed you. Definitely a trap. Yeah, I feel like this is a trap immediately. Don't tell him.
Starting point is 00:48:33 I'm going to... No, I'm thinking I'm going to throw you off the set. You can see I don't have a gun. Why don't you slide your gun across the table to me? Then I take it, turn it around, point it at you. That's the purpose. Shoot you. That's exactly it, yeah.
Starting point is 00:48:42 Shoot you, you're dead. Kill you. Totally, yeah. And I don't want to just you. That's exactly it. Yeah. Shoot you. You're dead. Kill you. Totally. Yeah. And I don't want to just die. Go easy on him. Yeah. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:48:52 What was the question? Your secret plan for when you get owned. What was your backup plan in case you get owned? Right. Right. Right, right. My backup plan was to sort of double down on it and tell you to own me harder. Do you like it?
Starting point is 00:49:13 That you like being owned. That I like being owned. And then it's your choice. Exactly. And that makes it your choice and no one actually can own you in that case. Totally, yeah. And I'm trusting you guys with that info.
Starting point is 00:49:23 I'm hoping you guys won't own me now because of that. Because I told you that. That's kind of Kevin's thing. It's Kevin's thing? Kevin does that? Well, Kevin's thing is actually really liking it, but pretending not to. So this is like, that's what's really effective. It's a little different.
Starting point is 00:49:40 Guys. Yeah. Kind of a higher. You guys could be a good team. You know what I mean? Me and Kevin? If Jeremy wants to do more of his Chet Hayes stuff, if that takes off. Yeah. Kind of a higher. You guys could be a good team. You know what I mean? Me and Jeremy wants to do more of his Chet Hayes stuff. If that takes off. Right. Maybe he's on his own. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:49:51 No, no, no, no, no. And Chet Hayes says that I don't really know like much of what he sounds like, but I'm just kind of, I'm just kind of trusting you. That's his voice though. That's cool. I think that was maybe what people were realizing after i posted that video they don't know what ched hayes sounds like yeah no they knew it no they knew it before you posted the video oh i don't know jeremy don't listen to them man what's that on your
Starting point is 00:50:18 now rajat i see the the the japanese wave on your wall talk about this and uh what it means for so that like this is um for like real art people but there's this japanese wave that's the art way of saying it japanese wave yeah yes that is like so huge and crazy uh and rajat has actually welcomed it into his residence that's right uh talk about what that means to you well my roommate had this paint had this and they moved out and they didn't want it and it looked so japanese and wavy so i got it yeah. Yeah. Hey, Rajat, look. I have that on the shirt, too. That's why we'd be a good duo. That's great. Okay.
Starting point is 00:51:10 And I'm loving seeing this come together. That's awesome. A partner that actually supports his Japanese way. And Jeremy can go run to that other guy from the Chet Hayes video. I mean, Brett actually could maybe work with jeremy and jeremy can you take a sip of your water again and and something's written on yeah what's on there okay buffalo wings and that that's my that's been my thing for 15 years.
Starting point is 00:51:47 This is that New York sensibility of like... Things are a little different in New York. That's all I have. Buffalo Wild Wings in New York is better because of the water. A lot of different. Oh my gosh. Yeah, the water. The water makes the wings better. Oh my gosh. Yeah, the water. The water makes the wings better.
Starting point is 00:52:07 That's right. Yeah. It's harder there. Blue cheese or ranch. Harder water, yeah. Harder water, yeah. The metals. I just said blue cheese or ranch.
Starting point is 00:52:22 Be careful, Jeremy. Careful, careful. watch be careful jeremy so uh careful i'm actually uh hey carefully i've lured you right into my trap oh this is tense i feel like i'm watching lockdown so i i actually haven't why are you sweating to make uh yeah so brett i know brett jeremy i'll take this uh he uh brett i hate to do this to you this is a new york thing he doesn't like buffalo wild wings for real he thinks that buffalo wild wigs is for uh basically like fat people he said he basically, why did this get made when he even saw the wings that they cook? He thinks it's for people in other states and cities
Starting point is 00:53:10 who don't understand comedy and aren't cool. Jeremy. Yes, country pumpkin. He's making fun of you. Yes, and so it's like, wouldn't it be funny if I went to this restaurant? Jeremy, use the owning thing.
Starting point is 00:53:27 This is fucking ironic. Jesus. So here in LA... He's fucking with you, Brett. We do that like... Yeah, I was being ironic too. Fucking say it more. Brett, do the owning thing.
Starting point is 00:53:41 I can't do that. That's what I was just... I was just doing that. I was just doing that i was just doing that yeah i know that's why i that's why i suggest now i have now i have to triple down i don't know how to do that now jeremy i i want to reserve the right to edit this out if i don't like it but you were you had a story apparently about me zinging you in new york when you saw me yep what i do so i was talking to you and hayes after the show at the bell house and hayes and i had met before so we had talked about that and uh we just had a very brief conversation and there were a group of fans
Starting point is 00:54:27 behind me um and i turned around and saw that there were people waiting to talk to you guys which made me very nervous and i was like all right i'm gonna get out of here and i said all right well i'll let you guys get to the fans and sean says oh those are our fans you're our best friend wow that's so mean yeah and i i'm like yeah right all right guys well i'll catch you oh i'm sorry jeremy but that is very funny. It was very funny. But I do understand. It's sort of like the kind of thing I might do on the show, though.
Starting point is 00:55:32 Right. Isn't that what you want from me? Right. No, but... Jeremy, you should have done the owning thing. You should have done that. The owning thing didn't go well
Starting point is 00:55:46 if we had thought of it right it didn't go well just i say oh okay so now rajat doesn't know what is what goes well what does it even though he actually had to clean up the huge mess you made from the from the chet hayes video now he's the one rajat did other videos on his own too i don't know what you're talking about great so no all my videos go well i don't know if you guys did your research but you might see a few quarantine videos rajat made with his roommate nah i don't do that stuff i mean i've seen some clunker tweets coming out of the guy yeah nah i don't clunk here we go i don't clunk hey we're all guilty of it man rajat's tweets are dirty no this stuff no i'm clean some of this shit gets a little raunchy nah his stuff is wrong
Starting point is 00:56:39 that's how you know the difference between rajat's tweets and mine. No, no. Besides the name. You work clean. I work clean. No. Jeremy does family tweets. I think, didn't Jeremy... Rajat's tweets are all like, asterisk, I walk in on the Grinch eating his own ass. Nah, nah. Asterisk. I don't do that.
Starting point is 00:57:00 I don't talk about the Grinch eating his ass. I think Jeremy did some some like like baby oh face stuff didn't you no this is no baby doing an oh baby making an oh face no showing you his oh face yeah and then i saw a video of a baby laughing for the first time and he quote tweeted it and said baby's first oh face I didn't say that. And we watched the follower count just drop in real time. One of those things where there's like one like and five replies. Oh, he got ratioed on the baby O-face?

Starting point is 01:00:37 Harry's or Harry I said Harry's we always talk about Harry's first and then we talk about you clean Harry who are sort of our new noted mask i don't know no taken for this campaign talk about harry's first what we want to talk about is something funny that happened to you recently great a ridiculous or fun situation that you were in okay recently that's the prompt and that'll take us into discussing the product particularly the product funny to me or funny to just anyone i i mean do
Starting point is 01:01:15 you you feel like there's a difference there like you yeah i mean i've had things happen to me that i suppose you would find funny okay but that you didn't find funny and and you have not really and you have things that have happened that you would find funny but the rest of the world would not yeah i guess i'm interested in that one that i would find funny yes but that others would not find funny you seem to think that you have a specific taste when it comes to what's funny or ridiculous that is not. I ordered a scented spray for my pillow to help me sleep at night. Like a lavender scent.
Starting point is 01:01:56 Okay. And they accidentally sent me two. Okay. So you understand that most people would not buy that funny or ridiculous but but you but you do i just had a little chuckle about the mix up at the at the shipping uh warehouse harry saw customers getting screwed over by questionable that's a come up overpriced shaving product harry on the come up i decided to do something better instead of charging the same stupid high prices harry's found their own way to double scent bottle beautifully designed razors for a fraction of the price of other big brands except bogo baby exceptional products
Starting point is 01:02:42 honest prices i don't is there a Bogo as part of this? Because I don't want to be talking about deals that aren't. No, but I clean Harry Punk. Harry's. Actually got two bottles. Buy one, get one. Their deodorant, their lotion, their body wash, their hair gel, all very high quality products.
Starting point is 01:03:01 They all smell great. German engineer blades made in their own factory they stay sharp longer you get a five blade razor weighted handle foaming shave gel and a travel cover for just three bucks at harry's.com slash the boys highest customer satisfaction in the shaving industry no risk trial don't like your shave no worries it's on them getting ripped off isn't funny do you want to hear what happened to me that you might find yes yes sure but that you didn't yeah so you're attuned to to this stuff i got my foot stuck in the dryer at the laundromat and it somehow turned on
Starting point is 01:03:39 and you know that that was something other people would find funny based on well the responses you were you were getting a lot of people inside that laundromat seemed to find it pretty humorous when my legs started spinning around and flipping me over what happened was i was holding my laundry basket with both hands and i saw oh still a sock left in the dryer so i stuck my foot and tried to pick it up with my little toesies i wear sandals punk and as i'm picking it up i just sort of tripped and my foot got wedged in between there's like slats in there and stuck inside there and then i don't know who somebody pushed the button or what, but it turned on. And the thing starts flipping over.
Starting point is 01:04:27 And I'm flying in circles. Help, punk. Help me, you punks. Are your clothes staying in the basket or are you going fast? No, no, no. I'm wearing all of them by the end of the cycle. Get started with a $13 trial set for just $ dollars at harrys.com slash the boys that's harrys.com slash the boys for a three dollar trial set hollywood handbook now look i i don't want to
Starting point is 01:04:54 see you turn against each other i'm i'm very happy for your success um as jake and amir uh basically float off on an ice flow we needed uh some but we needed to you know now they're like 35 or whatever uh we needed two people to sort of replace what they were bringing as nick and brad kind of move into their place um you know the cycle of life. And you guys are definitely worthy of this. It's necessary. And we appreciate you. Again, as Hayes talked about with divorce, when there is a void, you fill it. And so a void has been created, you know, by Jake and Brad.
Starting point is 01:05:42 Yeah, and Brad and Nick moving on, and you feed off of Jake and Amir's decomposing videos. And it continues. And then two other little boys come along and do that for you, too. I mean, like, you know, as long as you're ready. What's next for you guys? along and uh do that for you too i mean like you know as long as you're what's next for you guys well we're going along the the jake and amir trajectory a little bit why we're thinking of starting head gum exactly yeah why why um i don't do you get this do you
Starting point is 01:06:20 get that question i don't know how to answer that i don't know how to i don't even know how to understand it yeah why would you don't know why like you don't know why they for the i guess sean mentioned because she like because she's or something like that yeah there's five reasons five five freaking figures per month, pal. Yeah. So I guess that's what we want to do as well. Like a dumpster of... Kashish. Exactly.
Starting point is 01:06:54 Dumpster of Kashish. Cream. Hmm? Cream? Cream. Yeah, get the cream. Kevin, why do you produce the um the megan malali and nick offerman podcast uh the mocha chocolate mula yeah i knew he'd have something right secure the bag
Starting point is 01:07:17 and i uh i think devs is the right response jeremy they're the next between two ferns so i think it's okay to who's they yeah the devs nick and megan yeah oh okay yeah just to bring that back yeah devs is good yeah from before yes from before yeah who can relate i gotta use that somewhere kevin says i'm just gonna sit on this such a good callback too thanks yeah i'm enjoying it and it's one of these rare moments where i get to just be a fan of the show and just kind of sit back and i don't like that you guys so discord between me and rajat yeah right that's not ever our intention we we believe in equal partnerships and that's why when we do see an element of inequality where like jeremy's chet hayes video was a fucking disaster
Starting point is 01:08:15 and rajat has to swoop in and perform CPR on the dude's entire fucking career. We do like to point out, like, let's not, you know, let's not let this happen. And again, it wasn't exactly how that played out, but. Yeah. Right. I'm just saying, like, essentially, this is your notice. Like, you've got a DNR on you now. this is your notice like you've got a dnr on you now like if you make another chat haze video jeremy will not be permitted no no that was just like a one-off to perform emergency life-saving
Starting point is 01:08:55 procedures on you so that's and it's and that's good like you should know that he should know that right no it's good to know i guess yeah totally right totally yeah jeremy you weren't planning on making more no no no no no yeah not that much not that much right exactly so we're who's saying that is that jeremy or chet hayes saying that because you did the sort of no no no thing that yeah i think you're telling me he's known for no uh oh yeah no no no no i don't we no one i don't think anyone is trying to like so um this end between the two of you i do think it is uh revealing how quickly you sold each other out oh uh for you guys are trying to pair up rajat with kevin kevin for for just for more clout essentially jeremy with bread even more clout is this and so when it becomes more about clout
Starting point is 01:09:59 then then actually the work and uh and the relationship between the two of you um you know i think it's worth just looking inward a little bit but um that's for that's for after the show uh jeremy i saw you say to someone else on twitter that uh a bit that you did in your first huge video that is now tagged as borderline a hollywood handbook ripoff did you ever consider thanking thanking either of us oh that would be interesting god i'd love to hear something like that no i don't know i i or even or even even borderline even borderline thanking us that wow i don't know yeah i don't i might actually even retract that tweet maybe i'll delete it right now yeah take it down okay i think people people will know anyway nah nah well you know what do you remember when uh i said to sean or when Sean said to me you're our best friend sarcastically
Starting point is 01:11:06 that same night oh no he's says to Sean have you seen this guy's video where he's interviewing the cast of Tag it's really funny
Starting point is 01:11:21 it heavily borrows from our bit. Yeah, I forgot. I talked to so many fans. Yeah. It was a busy night. It was a big show. You saw the line. But Jeremy's your best friend, right?
Starting point is 01:11:44 Yeah. I mean, I remember every single conversation. Sorry sorry sorry my bad the fuck is sorry dude where are we all right brad do you have any any um any questions for these guys me yeah i just want to know why that's kind of that's sort of what we did before. That's actually a good question. It's a little bit of what we did, yeah. Is your position, guys, that for an artist to in any way
Starting point is 01:12:14 explain their work is inherently putting themselves on the defensive and diminishes both the work and the artist? And that's purely the domain of the critic? Who are you asking? This is to us?
Starting point is 01:12:31 Hmm? Who are you asking? Rajat. Me? No, yeah, I thought you were asking me that. Yeah, totally. Jeremy can answer. If Jeremy's got an answer I know I can answer
Starting point is 01:12:51 right oh really? Jeremy can do anything you didn't look like it I could see your face what your face was saying to me what your face was saying to me was not that you knew you could answer
Starting point is 01:13:02 Jeremy it's hard to tell over zoom but um yeah i would i would say yes okay but i was asking rajat right well well rajat and i answer together yeah totally we don't like taking separate right questions so yeah that's kind of what's up oh nothing you can go oh we're we're like so this is we're not clicking like it's hard over you know me and rashad damn just took one it'd be a real shame if another comedy duo came in destroyed your chemistry and then just kept feasting oh i see what's happening that would suck on all the clicks that were available out there on the web oh my god maybe uh maybe this says something about kind
Starting point is 01:13:58 of the difference between podcasting and videos and uh which one is operating with a net and which one is working without one maybe yeah and which one is like hard to tell the actual doing like a circus high wire act and which one is like just doing a video about it that's fake right it seemed there like you were saying the video was doing the fake one. Yeah, the video was being fake. You guys always know what I like to say about working with Annette. I don't know. She was great in American Beauty. Right.
Starting point is 01:14:37 You always say that. Okay. Okay, you got me. You sniffed it out. That's the first time you said it i could tell yeah yeah no he he busted my ass and i should have tried the owning thing there tried the owning thing yeah if i thought of it yeah what's your next video gonna be about uh you wait who are you asking who are you asking again you rajat you're asking me yeah all right yeah our next video is about you guys it's about you and it goes viral because like people are hungry for a hollywood handbook
Starting point is 01:15:27 parody right yeah retweet it and be like jesus christ jesus christ these guys don't miss it goes viral yeah yeah it's like a reference point that everyone knows and they're gonna get it immediately these guys need to be taken down a notch someone's gonna reply to it with a gif of you guys and be like it's this energy this energy i'm getting this energy oh no and that guy then the guy the guys like from the i'm not a rapper video that gif yeah yeah you guys like like bodying us yeah wow it's gonna be i guess that would mean that i was really famous if that happens
Starting point is 01:16:20 i guess it's good for me i guess I'd be spending those Ben Shapiro bucks yeah I know but like still bye hey guys sorry for the fake ending there Jeremy and Rajat after the recording sent us their amazing parody
Starting point is 01:16:43 of Hollywood Handbook and we want to include it in the episode. So enjoy. It was you, it was me, and we were being mean to everyone we talked to. Right, and was it for a reason? No, it was for no reason, and we were hanging out with Yola Tango because we're also old. I was on stage shredding with the Yola Tango guys. You know, one of them came up to me and said a compliment. A compliment.
Starting point is 01:17:16 I decided to be mean right back to them. Now, Martha Kelly, you are so great and so funny. You're not going to be able to tell if that was a genuine compliment or not, because the heightened versions of ourselves are like really subtle. Thank you for having me, guys. Martha, how was it working on Marriage Story? Well, I was pretty intimidated at first to work with Adam Driver and Noah Baumbach, but they ended up being really sweet. Okay, I'm not listening, and I'm going to cut you off.
Starting point is 01:17:52 Bye! Hollywood Handbook. That was a Hate Gum podcast.
