Starting point is 00:01:26 Story 1. Before beginning the tale, I want to describe the setting a bit. I was staying in a cozy cabin in Ontario. This cabin was part of a small community of 12 in total, all arrangements. in a semicircle around a beautiful park. The park was full of tall trees, had a small playground and a picnic area. In addition, the cabins were very close to a lovely lake, perfect for swimming, fishing, or canoeing.
Starting point is 00:01:54 During our stay there, my older brother and I became friends with a boy named Brandon, who was about 14 years old. Brandon often wandered off alone and preferred spending time with us rather than his family. As a little kid back then, I couldn't understand why someone wouldn't want to be around their parents. Maybe it was because I was a bit of a good kid. I always followed the rules, did what my parents asked,
Starting point is 00:02:18 and tried to stay out of trouble. To be honest, I didn't like Brandon very much, as he had a reputation for being a troublemaker. However, he was good friends with my brother, and since I admired my brother so much, I followed him everywhere, even if that meant hanging out with Brandon. I wanted to do everything my brother's,
Starting point is 00:02:37 did because to me he was the coolest person in the world. Over time, Brandon came up with the idea of sneaking out at night, and of course, my brother quickly agreed. Since we shared a room, I had no choice but to go with them. At first, we just went to the park and stayed there for a while, enjoying the nighttime silence and the cool breeze that made the leaves whisper. But soon we got bored and started looking for something more exciting to do. I suggested going back to sleep, but the older boys made the decisions. Then Brandon suggested exploring the forest, and although I tried to convince them it wasn't a good idea, they didn't even listen. So with a bit of resignation, we ventured among the trees, guided only by the faint glow of Brandon's phone. Luckily, the forest wasn't too
Starting point is 00:03:24 dense. You could even hear the distant hum of the highway a few kilometers away. After walking for a bit, I began to feel scared and wanted to return, but I only had two options. Go back. alone in the dark or keep following them. After a while I noticed something strange. The forest had gone completely silent. There were no crickets, no owls, not even the murmur of wind through the branches. I pointed it out to the others, and we all stopped to listen. After a few seconds of absolute silence, my brother spoke annoyed. Can you shut up? I'm trying to hear something. I was confused because I hadn't made a sound. I told him, so, and then he said he could hear heavy breathing, comparing it to that of a dying pig, and told
Starting point is 00:04:12 me to stop doing it. I was about to protest when I heard it, too. It was deep uneven breathing, almost painful. I whispered, it's not me. I hear it too. My brother looked at me, and at that moment the sound grew louder, as if whatever it was had become excited or was getting closer. Then we saw two lights above us. They gave off a bright blue. blue glow swaying gently from side to side. We froze unable to look away, as though some invisible force had enchanted us. Suddenly a chilling moan shattered the air. It was a hoarse sound, like someone who had smoked all their life trying to scream while struggling to breathe. A shiver ran through our bodies and without thinking we ran. Behind us we heard branches snapping
Starting point is 00:04:59 and trees shaking, as if something huge was chasing us. I couldn't run as fast. My short wouldn't allow it. I felt like it would catch me at any moment. Pain surged through my muscles, and I finally had to stop while my brother and Brandon kept running without looking back. That thing, whatever it was, was coming at great speed. Desperate, I dove into a nearby bush to hide, but unfortunately, it turned out to be full of thorns. Within seconds I was covered in scratches and cuts. I had to bite my lip to keep from screaming in pain. I stayed at the same. I stayed perfectly still, holding my breath. Then I heard something heavy fall to the ground very close to me. From my hiding spot, I could see those two lights again. But now I realize they weren't
Starting point is 00:05:48 lights at all. They were eyes. And those eyes belonged to a creature straight out of a nightmare. It stood about two meters tall, extremely thin with dark gray skin. Its arms were incredibly long, ending in sharp claws. It stayed there for quite some time, searching for. me with slow movements, sniffing the air, turning its head in an unnatural way. I didn't move a millimeter. I remained hidden for hours until the sun began to peek over the horizon. Only then did I gather enough courage to run in what I hoped was the direction of the cabin. I didn't care about the pain, the blood dripping from my wounds, or my torn clothes. I ran without stopping through the forest until I finally reached a road full of cars.
Starting point is 00:06:35 After that, everything became blurry. The next thing I remember is waking up in a hospital bed surrounded by beeping machines and my family's worried faces. Apparently, someone had seen me coming out of the woods, covered in scratches and still wearing my pajamas, and had called emergency services. When I tried to explain what had happened, no one believed me. They thought I was hallucinating from being in the forest too long or from the fright.
Starting point is 00:07:01 Meanwhile, my brother had made it back to the cabin during the night and waited until morning to explain what had happened. They were already organizing a search when they got word that I had been found. It's been more than seven years since that terrifying night, and I still spend countless hours on the internet, searching for any clue or story that might help me identify that mysterious creature that stalked us in the woods. Story 2. This happened about two years ago, shortly before the pandemic, began. At that time, my mental health and my relationship with my parents were not in a good place. I felt lonely, misunderstood, and everything seemed increasingly difficult to bear. To make matters worse, a good friend of mine, someone I had even gone out with a few times, moved out of the city.
Starting point is 00:07:55 We were very close, and losing him like that was a heavy blow. I remember feeling completely empty and numb, unable to process his absence. Over time, I began to have to have to be able to have a have horrible nightmares. Although I can't recall every detail, there was one recurring element. The place where I found myself, whether a room or another setting, would slowly start to darken. My dreams always unfold from my own perspective, so it was as if some kind of black fog seeped into my field of vision. But it was more than that. The entire environment sank into total darkness, like that scene in the Lord of the Rings where Gandalf gets angry at Bilbo, and every Everything suddenly turned shadowy.
Starting point is 00:08:38 That's the closest comparison I can make, although in my dream it felt even denser, more oppressive. Then I would feel a cold, heavy sensation in my stomach, accompanied by absolute terror, even before anything actually happened. If there were other people in the dream, they would either vanish when the darkness arrived or remain there, staring at me with empty lifeless faces. Having a nightmare is awful, but having one every single night without a exception destroys you. If the characters in the dream didn't fade away, they would just stand there staring at me. And then the feeling would begin. Have you ever had your arm or leg fall asleep,
Starting point is 00:09:17 that prickling, stabbing sensation of pins and needles? This was something like that, but much worse. The pressure would gradually increase until it felt like something invisible was gripping me tightly, squeezing me so hard that it felt like my bones were about to break. Sometimes that force would focus on my throat as if strangling me. I felt an indescribable fear surrounded by total darkness while a loud buzzing filled my head, a mix between TV static and the sound of cicadas. It was impossible to think speak or fight back. It went on until I finally managed to break free and force myself awake, but the terror didn't always vanish upon opening my eyes. Sometimes I'd lie awake for hours, unable to sleep again.
Starting point is 00:10:05 Because if I tried, the dream would continue exactly where it had stopped, as if that thing was waiting for me to return. It was 2021, and my life had become even more complicated. I cut off all contact with my parents, went through difficult situations and major changes that I'd rather not go into detail about. I ended up living with my best friend whom I'll call Amelia in a small cabin in the countryside. Amelia was a very religious and incredibly kind person. I slept upstairs in a small attic with a tiny mattress. One night Amelia was away babysitting her friend's kids, as she often did. I was alone in the cabin trying to rest.
Starting point is 00:10:48 I hadn't had one of those nightmares for over a month, but that night it all came back, and much worse. Normally my dreams began slowly, giving me time to understand what was happening. But this time it was like falling straight into a movie. no context, no warning. Everything happened fast. I clearly remember that in the dream. I staggered out of the cabin, got into my Jeep, and drove at full speed down dark rural roads. I almost lost control of the vehicle several times, but I kept driving while desperately calling Amelia. I told her in a trembling voice that I felt really bad, that something terrible was about to happen and that I was
Starting point is 00:11:31 heading to the hospital. She asked what was going on, but her voice began to fade, replaced by a low, terrifying growl. That voice whispered incomprehensible words right next to my ear. It didn't seem to come from the phone. It was inside the car. I glanced at the rearview mirror, and then the most horrifying thing happened. The jeep's lights went out completely, and no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't turn them back on. The darkness began to consume my vision. but something different happened for the first time. I felt a massive hand sliding through my hair from the back of my neck to my forehead. It was so big that the palm covered the entire back of my head and the fingers still reached my forehead.
Starting point is 00:12:17 I could feel sharp claws lightly scratching my skin. That hand grabbed my hair forcefully and yanked my head backward, slamming me against the car seat. The growling grew louder, more furious, and an overwhelming pressure. fell over my body. I tried to scream, but no sound came out. My mouth was open, but no noise escaped. I could feel that thing's hatred toward me, an indescribable burning rage. Then I remembered something Amelia had taught me when I told her about my dreams. She had shown me the Lord's prayer and told me to call upon God, the Holy Spirit, and St. Michael for protection. I had never tried it before. In the midst of panic, I begged God mentally to help me.
Starting point is 00:13:00 promising that if he freed me from it, I would believe in him forever. At that moment the grip on my hair began to loosen. I felt the dark presence releasing me little by little, almost reluctantly. The cold in my stomach and the buzzing in my ears slowly faded, until I finally woke up completely. I sat up abruptly and looked toward the attic window, and there I saw it. For the first time I saw it outside of my dreams.
Starting point is 00:13:29 In real life, The cabin was surrounded by darkness with no exterior lights, and remember, I slept on the second floor. Even so, from the window beside the fireplace, two red eyes were staring at me. They weren't reflections. They were huge, glowing, but the whites of the eyes also stained red. I could barely make out the strange shape of its head, but enough to realize something terrifying. There were no trees, no air conditioning units. nothing near that window for anyone to stand on. Whatever it was had to be over two and a half meters tall to be able to look inside from that height.
Starting point is 00:14:08 I called Amelia immediately, begging her not to hang up as I explained what had happened. It was three in the morning, but luckily her friend had returned home, and Amelia was able to leave for the cabin. She asked me to put the phone on speaker, began praying aloud, and told me to burn white sage. Little by little, the darkness and the heaviness and the heaviness and the evidence, atmosphere disappeared. When Amelia arrived, everything returned to normal. From that night on, I started going to church with her, praying every day, and creating my own personal prayer before
Starting point is 00:14:40 sleeping. Since then, I have never had those dreams again, nor have I felt that presence. Now I live alone in a new apartment, but I still keep in touch with Amelia and maintain the habit of praying each night. I know some people might think I'm crazy, or that it's impossible to believe that what I encountered was a demon. But I can only say one thing. When you come face to face with something truly evil, something that wants you to know it's evil, that wants to hurt you, you just know. Story 3. When I was younger, I used to spend a lot of time at my friend James's house. He was a great friend, almost like a brother to me, since I had no siblings and didn't get along with. with my parents. That's why I tried to stay at his house as much as I could. However, sometimes
Starting point is 00:15:34 his parents hinted that they were starting to get a little tired of having me around. We always tried to hang out in the backyard where James had a small hideout, a sort of mini-game room with a couch where we would play video games for hours. Even so, his parents got annoyed when I stayed too long. His father would come downstairs, knock hard on the door, open it, and pretend it was time for James to go to bed. He would say things like, James, it's late, you should go to sleep. But we both knew it was really just a polite way of telling me it was time to leave. Every time that happened, I would get up immediately and leave without arguing. I didn't want to cause any trouble, because that house was the only place where I truly felt at peace, almost like being at home.
Starting point is 00:16:20 When I went back to my own house, the atmosphere was completely different. As soon as I walked in the door, my mother would start yelling at me about the dishwasher, the dirty dishes, the laundry, or any other thing. She never stopped. It made me nervous and tense. Everything seemed to irritate her, and I felt like nothing I did was ever enough. I think she was just taking out her own stress, but for me, an 18-year-old still trying to figure out who I was and what I wanted to do with my life. It was too much. At that time, I still didn't drive, so I always walked to James's house. It was about a ten-minute walk, or three or four, if I ran, though I rarely did in summer because I'd end up drenched in sweat, and I didn't like arriving there smelling bad. Besides, if I ran home right
Starting point is 00:17:08 before bed, I'd have to shower, and I hated doing that so late. That night I stayed at James's house until midnight. I looked at my phone, then at him, and we both smiled, knowing that any moment his dad would come down to knock on the door and hint that it was time for me to leave. I decided to get ahead of it. I didn't want his family to be bothered, so I chose to leave early, thinking maybe that would make me more likable. I said goodbye to James with a friendly fist bump and walked out of his house. The street was completely dark. It was midnight and there were hardly any lights around. Halfway through my walk as I neared my street, I started hearing strange noises. They sounded like groans or muffled grunts coming from somewhere a few meters ahead.
Starting point is 00:17:55 I slowed my pace and listened carefully. As I moved forward, the sounds grew louder. Between the paths, there were thick hedges dividing the houses. I called them paths, but they were really dirt trails running alongside the backyards. The bushes made it impossible to see what was on the other side. Finally, I got so close to the sound that it felt like I could touch it if I reached out my hand. Only one more hedge separated me from it, and the grunting was clearly coming from behind it. Instinct made me step away toward the road, increasing the distance between myself and whatever was there. As I passed by the hedge, I saw something grayish. It looked like hair, the hair of an elderly person. I kept walking slowly, and then I saw her. On the front lawn of a house lay an old woman, maybe around 80 years old,
Starting point is 00:18:44 moaning and grunting weekly. Without a second thought, I ran toward her. I gently placed her in the recovery position. The only thing I remembered learning back in school, maybe in middle school or even earlier. She wasn't speaking, not responding, just making those faint noises. I didn't know what else to do,
Starting point is 00:19:03 so I left her like that, hoping I'd done it right. I called emergency services and waited. Five minutes felt like 50. It was the longest time of my life. I felt as if somehow that woman's life was in my hands. I had never done CPR or anything like that before. I only knew that basic technique, and I prayed it would help somehow.
Starting point is 00:19:26 The thought that she might die right in front of me was terrifying. Fortunately, she didn't. The paramedics arrived and took over immediately. I don't usually talk to people in the neighborhood except for James, but ever since that night, every time I see that lady working in her garden, I smile and wave at her. I never imagined I'd find her like that, lying on the ground, while I was walking home from my friend's house. Since then, I've walked that same route hundreds of times, and nothing unusual has ever happened again.
Starting point is 00:19:58 But every time I pass through that dark stretch, I can't help but remember that night, when for a brief moment life and death crossed paths right in front of me.
