You guys have been asking for this type of content for months now, and I finally managed to track down three stories that will make you think twice about ordering pizza late at night. These aren't your typical delivery mix-ups or cold. old food complaints. These are real experiences from actual delivery drivers who found themselves in situations that were way more terrifying than they ever signed up for. I've been collecting
Starting point is 00:01:49 these stories for weeks, reaching out to drivers across the country. And let me tell you, the pizza delivery industry has some dark secrets that most people never hear about. Tonight, I'm sharing three of the most disturbing encounters that happen to ordinary people just trying to make a living dropping off your favorite food. Before we dive in, I want you to know that every single detail in these stories has been verified. I've spoken directly with the drivers involved, cross-reference police reports were applicable, and made sure these accounts are as accurate as possible. What you're about to hear isn't fiction or urban legends.
Starting point is 00:02:26 These are real events that happen to real people, and honestly, some of the details still give me chills. The first story takes place in a suburban neighborhood that looks completely normal during the day, but transforms into something much more sinister after dark. Our driver, who will call Marcus, had been delivering pizzas for about two years when this incident occurred. He thought he'd seen everything the job could throw at him. He was wrong. It was a Thursday night in late September around 10.30, when Marcus got the call for a delivery to 847 Maple Street. The order was pretty standard, two large pepperoni pizzas and a bottle of soda.
Starting point is 00:03:06 Nothing unusual about the request, and the address was in a neighborhood he delivered to dozens of times before. The customer paid with a credit card over the phone, which meant Marcus just had to drop off the food and collect a signature. Marcus loaded up his car and made the familiar drive through the winding suburban streets. The house sat at the end of a cul-de-sac, surrounded by tall oak trees that blocked most of the street. streetlight. As he pulled into the driveway, he noticed something immediately felt off. Every single house on the street had lights on in at least one window, but 847 Maple Street was completely dark. Not even a porch light was illuminated. He grabbed the thermal bag containing the pizzas and walked up the front steps. The wooden boards creaked under his feet, and he could hear what sounded like a
Starting point is 00:03:55 television playing somewhere inside the house, but the volume was turned up way too loud. He rang the doorbell and waited. Nothing happened for about 30 seconds, so he pressed it again, this time holding it down a little longer. That's when he heard footsteps approaching from inside. Heavy deliberate footsteps that seem to take forever to reach the door. Marcus stood there with the pizzas, checking his phone to make sure he had the right address. The footsteps stopped right on the other side of the door, but nobody opened it. He could actually hear someone breathing heavily just inches away from him.
Starting point is 00:04:30 separated only by the thin wooden door. Marcus called out, Pizza delivery for this address, but got no response. The breathing continued, and now he could hear what sounded like whispering, though he couldn't make out any actual words. He knocked on the door this time three quick wraps and said louder,
Starting point is 00:04:50 I have your pizza order here. The door finally opened, but only about two inches. A chain lock prevented it from opening any further. through the narrow gap Marcus could see part of a face, specifically one eye staring directly at him. The eye didn't blink, didn't move, just stared with an intensity that made his skin crawl. Leave the pizzas on the step, a voice said from behind the door. The voice was gravelly, like someone who smoked three packs a day, and there was something else about it that Marcus couldn't quite identify,
Starting point is 00:05:23 something that made every instinct in his body tell him to get back to his car immediately. Marcus explained that he needed a signature for the credit card transaction, but the voice just repeated, leave the pizzas on the step. The eye continued staring at him through the crack in the door, never blinking, never looking away. Marcus started to feel genuinely frightened. In two years of delivering pizzas, he'd encountered drunk customers, rude customers, customers who tried to stiff him on tips, but nothing like this. He decided to follow company policy and insist on the same. signature. Sir, I really need you to sign for this order. It'll just take two seconds.
Starting point is 00:06:05 That's when the whispering behind the door got louder, and Marcus realized there were multiple voices whispering. Not just one. At least three different people were having some kind of hushed conversation just out of his sight. The eye in the crack suddenly disappeared, and Marcus heard the chain being removed from the door. He thought the customer was finally going to open up and sign for the pizza. But instead, the door swung open to reveal a completely empty hallway. No one was standing there. The television was still blaring from somewhere deeper in the house, but Marcus couldn't see anyone. Hello? He called into the dark hallway. I still need that signature. His voice echoed slightly in what sounded like a
Starting point is 00:06:48 much larger space than he expected. The house looked modest from the outside, but the hallway seemed to stretch back much farther than should have been possible. That's when Marcus noticed, the smell. It was a combination of something rotting and something chemical, like cleaning supplies mixed with spoiled food. The odor was so strong that he had to take a step back from the doorway. He called out one more time. Sir, I'm going to need you to come sign for this. From somewhere deep in the house, he heard that gravelly voice again. Come inside. We're waiting for you in the kitchen. The way the voice said we made Marcus's blood run cold. He looked at it. He looked at the Looked down at the order slip on his phone one more time to make absolutely sure he was at the right address.
Starting point is 00:07:34 He was. Marcus made a decision that probably saved his life. He set the pizza boxes down on the front step, backed away from the open door and called out. I'm leaving the food here. You can call the store about the signature. He turned and walked quickly back to his car, but he could feel eyes watching him from inside that dark house. As he reached his car door, he heard the front of his first. front door of the house slammed shut with tremendous force. The sound echoed through the quiet neighborhood
Starting point is 00:08:04 like a gunshot. Marcus got in his car, started the engine, and drove to the end of the cul-de-sac. Before leaving the street entirely, he looked back at 847 Maple Street in his rearview mirror. Every light in the house was now on, and he could see silhouettes moving past the windows, not just one or two figures, but what looked like at least five or six people walking around inside. The television had been turned off, and the house was now completely silent, except for the sound of his own engine running. Marcus drove back to the pizza shop and told his manager what happened. The manager called the phone number from the order, but it went straight to a voicemail box that was full. They tried calling several more times over the next hour, but never got through
Starting point is 00:08:51 to anyone. The next morning, Marcus decided to drive past the house during a daylight to see if everything looked normal. What he found made his stomach drop. There was a for sale sign in the front yard, and when he peered through the windows, the house was completely empty. No furniture, no signs that anyone had been living there recently. But that's not the strangest part of the story. Marcus went to the real estate office listed on the sign and asked about the property. The agent told him the house had been vacant for over eight months. The previous owners had moved out suddenly, and the house had been on the market ever since. No one had been showing the property recently, and no one should have had keys to get inside. Marcus never found out who placed
Starting point is 00:09:35 that pizza order or who was in that house that night. The second story comes from a driver named Sarah who worked the late shift in a college town about three hours north of where Marcus had his encounter. Sarah had been delivering pizzas for almost a year, mostly to drunk college students who tipped well and never caused any real problems. She actually preferred the night shift because the tips were better and the roads were less crowded, so that preference changed completely after what happened on a Friday night in early November. The order came in around 1145 p.m. for three large pizzas with various toppings and a two-liter of Coke. The delivery address was for an apartment complex on the outskirts of town, one of those newer buildings that housed mostly graduate
Starting point is 00:10:23 with students and young professionals. Sarah had delivered there plenty of times before, so she wasn't concerned when she loaded up her car and headed out into the cold night. The apartment complex consisted of four identical buildings arranged around a central parking area. Each building was three stories tall with outside staircases leading to the upper floors. The customer had ordered from apartment 2B in Building C, which meant Sarah had to park and walk up to the second floor. When she arrived at the complex around midnight, the parking lot was mostly empty except for a handful of cars scattered throughout. Most of the apartment windows were dark, which made sense for that time of night.
Starting point is 00:11:04 Sarah parked near Building C and grabbed the thermal bag containing the three pizzas. The order total was $42, and the customer had paid with cash over the phone, which meant Sarah was carrying change. She climbed the metal stairs to the second floor, her footsteps echoing. in the quiet night. The staircase was well lit by overhead fixtures, but several of the bulbs had burned out, creating pockets of shadow along the walkway. Apartment 2B was at the far end of the building, requiring Sarah to walk past four other units to reach it. As she walked along the second floor walkway, Sarah noticed that apartment 2A had its door standing wide open. This struck her as odd because it was late November, and the temperature was in the low 30s. She slowed her to
Starting point is 00:11:51 pace as she approached the open door, wondering if she should check to make sure everything was okay. The apartment was completely dark inside, and Sarah couldn't see anything beyond the doorway. She called out softly, hello? Is everything all right? But received no response. She decided it wasn't her business and continued to apartment 2B, which was right next door. Sarah knocked on the door of 2B and waited. After about 10 seconds, she heard movement inside and the sound of multiple multiple dead bolts being unlocked. The door opened to reveal a woman in her mid-20s with long black hair and pale skin. She was wearing a bathrobe and looked like she had just woken up, even though she had placed the pizza order less than 20 minutes earlier. Finally, the woman said, though not in a particularly rude way, I was starting to think you got lost.
Starting point is 00:12:45 Sarah apologized for the delay and started to hand over the pizzas, but the woman held up a finger and said, Hold on, let me grab my wallet. I'll be right back. The woman disappeared into her apartment, leaving the door open. Sarah stood in the doorway holding the pizzas, and from her position she could see into the living room. The apartment was sparsely furnished with just a couch, a coffee table, and a television that was turned off. What caught Sarah's attention were the windows in the living room. Every single one had thick blankets hanging over them, blocking out any view of the outside. While Sarah waited, she became aware of a strange sound coming from the apartment next door.
Starting point is 00:13:27 The one with the open door. It sounded like someone dragging something heavy across the floor, followed by periodic thumping noises. The sounds were rhythmic like someone was moving furniture around, but who does that at midnight on a Friday? The woman returned with her wallet and paid for the pizzas, giving Sarah a decent tip. As Sarah handed over the chain, she mentioned the open door next door.
Starting point is 00:13:49 Your neighbor's door is standing wide open. I wasn't sure if something was wrong over there. The woman's expression changed immediately. Her face went completely white, and she grabbed Sarah's arm. What did you say about next door? Sarah repeated that the door to 2A was standing open and asked if the woman knew her neighbor. There is no neighbor, the woman whispered, her grip tightening on Sarah's arm. That apartment has been empty for months.
Starting point is 00:14:18 The last tenant moved out in August, and the landlord hasn't found anyone new yet. Sarah felt her stomach drop as the implications of what the woman was saying sank in. The dragging and thumping sounds from next door suddenly stopped. Both women stood frozen in the doorway, listening to the silence that followed. Sarah wanted to leave immediately, but the woman was still holding onto her arm, seemingly too frightened to let go. We need to call the police, the woman whispered. Someone broke into that apartment. Sarah agreed and pulled out her phone, but before she could dial,
Starting point is 00:14:55 they heard footsteps coming from inside apartment 2A. Heavy footsteps that were moving toward the open door. The woman yanked Sarah into her apartment and quickly locked the door behind them. They both stood with their backs against the door, hardly daring to breathe. Through the thin walls, they could hear someone moving around in the empty apartment next door. The footsteps were deliberate and slow. as if whoever was in there was searching for something. Sarah finally managed to dial 911 and whispered their location to the dispatcher.
Starting point is 00:15:26 The operator told them to stay where they were and that officers were on their way. While they waited, the sounds from next door continued. It sounded like someone was going through the empty apartment room by room, opening and closing doors, moving things around. About five minutes into the call with 911, Sarah and the woman heard something that made their blood run cold. Someone was trying the doorknop to apartment 2B. The handle turned slowly, and whoever was on the other side pushed against the door, testing the locks. The woman had installed three dead bolts on her door, and Sarah had never been more grateful for anything in her life.
Starting point is 00:16:05 The person on the other side of the door didn't knock or say anything. They just kept testing the doorknob and pushing against the door. Sarah could hear them moving back and forth in front of the door, and at one point, It sounded like they were trying to peer through the people from the outside. The police arrived about ten minutes later, and Sarah could hear their radios crackling as they climbed the stairs to the second floor. The sounds from the hallway immediately stopped. When the officers knocked on the door of 2B and identified themselves, Sarah and the woman finally felt safe enough to open the door. The police searched apartment 2A thoroughly but found no sign of whoever had been inside.
Starting point is 00:16:44 The apartment was indeed empty, just as the woman had said, but there were clear signs that someone had been there recently. Footprints in the dust on the floor and several windows that had been opened from the inside. Most disturbing of all, the officers found a small pile of tools near the front door, a crowbar, a screwdriver, and what looked like lock-picking equipment. The police filed a report and increased patrols in the area, but they'd never caught whoever had been in that empty apartment. Sarah finished her shift that night, but she put in her two weeks notice the next Monday.
Starting point is 00:17:19 She told me that every time she thinks about that night, she wonders what would have happened if the woman in 2B hadn't pulled her inside and locked the door. But even Sarah's terrifying experience pales in comparison to what happened to our third driver. This last story takes place in a rural area about 40 minutes outside a mid-sized city, where the houses are spread far apart in cell phone service is spotty at best. The driver in this case was a guy named Kevin who had been delivering pizzas for almost three years and thought he could handle anything the job threw at him. Kevin had taken the rural delivery roads because they paid better.
Starting point is 00:18:00 Most drivers avoided them due to the long distances and poor roads, but Kevin didn't mind the extra driving time. The tips were usually worth it, and he actually enjoyed the peaceful drive through the countryside after dealing with demanding customers in the city all day. The order that would change everything came in on a Wednesday night around 915. It was for two large meat lovers pizzas and an order of breadsticks, totaling $38. The delivery address was 4892 County Road 15, which Kevin recognized as being way out in the sticks.
Starting point is 00:18:34 The customer had paid by credit card over the phone and specifically requested that the driver call when they arrived instead of knocking on the door. Kevin loaded up his beat up Honda Civic and headed out. into the darkness. County Road 15 was a narrow winding two-lane road that cut through dense forest and farmland. There were no streetlights once you got more than a few miles from town, and the houses were scattered so far apart that you could drive for ten minutes without seeing another building. The GPS on Kevin's phone kept losing signal as he drove deeper into the rural area. He had to rely on the written directions the customer had provided, which included helpful
Starting point is 00:19:12 landmarks like turn left at the big oak tree and keep going until you see the red mailbox. After about 25 minutes of driving, Kevin finally spotted the mailbox marking 4892 County Road 15. The house sat about a quarter mile back from the main road, connected by a narrow gravel driveway that disappeared into a thick stand of pine trees. Kevin could see a faint glow through the trees that he assumed was the house, but the driveway was so dark that he had to use his high beams to avoid driving into the ditch. As his car crunched along the gravel driveway, Kevin noticed several things that made him uncomfortable. First, there were no other tire tracks in the gravel, which seemed odd for a house where people presumably lived. Second, he passed what looked like
Starting point is 00:19:59 the rusted remains of two other vehicles partially hidden in the trees, an old pickup truck and what might have been a sedan, both covered in vines and obviously abandoned for years. The driveway curved to the right, and Kevin finally got his first clear view of the house. It was a small single-story building that looked like it had been constructed sometime in the 1960s. The exterior was covered in faded aluminum siding, and several of the windows had sheets of plywood nailed over them instead of glass. Only two windows showed any light, and both were covered with heavy curtains that prevented Kevin from seeing inside. Kevin parked his car near what he assumed was the front door, and grabbed his phone to call the customer as requested.
Starting point is 00:20:42 The call went straight to voicemail without even ringing, which wasn't entirely unusual in an area with poor cell coverage. He tried calling two more times with the same result, then decided to get out and knock on the door despite the customer's instructions. The silence outside the car was absolute. No traffic noise, no sounds of civilization, just the occasional rustle of wind through the pine trees. Kevin had grown up in a rural area and was used to quiet nights, but this felt different.
Starting point is 00:21:14 This felt like the kind of silence that comes when even the animals know to stay hidden. He walked up to the front door carrying the thermal bag with the pizzas. The wooden steps creaked under his weight, and he noticed that several of the boards were rotting and felt unstable. Kevin knocked on the door three times and called out, pizza delivery. He waited about 30 seconds and knocked again. again, this time louder. From inside the house he heard what sounded like furniture being moved around, heavy pieces being dragged across the floor, followed by muffled voices having some kind of discussion. Kevin couldn't make out any words, but the tone sounded urgent, almost frantic.
Starting point is 00:21:56 He knocked a third time and called out louder. I have your pizza order here. The sounds inside the house suddenly stopped. Complete silence for about a minute, then Keketka Kevin heard footsteps approaching the door. But these weren't normal footsteps. They were uneven, like someone was limping or dragging one foot behind them. The footsteps stopped right on the other side of the door and Kevin could hear heavy breathing. Who sent you? A voice asked from behind the door.
Starting point is 00:22:26 The voice was rough and suspicious, not at all like someone who had just ordered pizza 30 minutes earlier. Kevin explained that he was from Tony's pizza and that someone at this address had placed an order. The voice behind the door was quiet for a moment, then asked, What kind of car are you driving? This struck Kevin as a very strange question. He told the person he was driving a blue Honda Civic and immediately heard whispered conversation behind the door. Multiple voices this time, all talking in hush tones that he couldn't understand. Kevin was starting to feel genuinely uneasy and considered just leaving the pizzas on the step and getting back to his car. Step away from the door, the voice commanded.
Starting point is 00:23:11 Walk back to your car and wait there. Kevin asked why, but got no response. The breathing sounds behind the door continued, and now he could hear what sounded like metal objects being moved around. Kevin decided to follow the instructions and backed away from the door. As he walked back toward his car, Kevin heard the front door open behind him. He turned around and saw a figure standing in the doorway, backlit by the dim light from inside the house.
Starting point is 00:23:39 The person appeared to be wearing some kind of heavy coat or jacket, and Kevin couldn't make out any facial features in the darkness. Bring the food here, the figure called out. Set it on the step and go back to your car. Kevin walked back to the door and placed the thermal bag on the wooden step as instructed. Up close he could see that the person in the doorway was definitely male, probably middle-aged, with long hair and a thick beard. What bothered Kevin most was that the man never took his eyes off him, tracking his every movement with an intensity that felt threatening.
Starting point is 00:24:13 Kevin returned to his car and waited for the man to come get the food, but instead of stepping outside, the figure just stood in the doorway watching him. After about two minutes of this stalemate, Kevin rolled down his window and called out. I still need payment for the order. The man disappeared back into the house without saying anything. Kevin waited in his car for another five minutes, engine running, ready to leave at any moment. Finally, the man reappeared in the doorway and walked over to retrieve the pizzas. But instead of bringing money or coming to the car to pay, he just took the food inside and shut the door. Kevin got out of his car and walked back to the house, knocking on the door again.
Starting point is 00:24:55 Sir, you still need to pay for this order, he called out. No response. He knocked louder and repeated. his request for payment. From inside he heard that same furniture moving sound, like heavy objects being dragged around. Then Kevin heard something that made his stomach drop. From somewhere behind the house came the unmistakable sound of a dog barking. But this wasn't a normal bark. It was the kind of frantic, terrified barking that dogs make when they're in pain or extreme distress. The barking continued for about 30 seconds, then stopped abruptly with a yelping sound that Kevin never wanted to hear again. Kevin decided he was done. He walked quickly back to his car,
Starting point is 00:25:37 but before he could get inside, he heard the front door open again. This time, two figures emerged from the house. Both were male, both wearing dark clothing, and both were walking directly toward his car. Kevin jumped behind the wheel and started the engine, but one of the men called out, Wait, we have your money. Against his better judgment, Kevin rolled down his window as the first man approached. The man handed him two twenty-dollar bills, which was the exact amount of the order with no tip. Kevin took the money and was about to drive away when the second man appeared at his passenger window. You didn't see anything here tonight, the second man said in a low threatening voice. You were never here. You understand. Kevin nodded quickly and put the car in reverse, but the
Starting point is 00:26:25 first man grabbed onto his door handle. We know what kind of car you drive now. The man said, leaning closer to Kevin's window. We know where you work. Don't make us come looking for you. Kevin gunned the engine and backed away so quickly that the man had to let go of the door handle to avoid being dragged. Kevin drove back down that gravel driveway faster than was safe,
Starting point is 00:26:48 his headlights bouncing wildly as he hit potholes and ruts. In his rearview mirror, he could see both men standing in the driveway watching him leave. When he reached County Road 15, Kevin didn't slow down until he was back within the city limits. The next day, Kevin told his manager what happened and suggested they stopped delivering to that address. His manager called the phone number from the order, but it was disconnected. They tried looking up the address in their delivery database and found that it was the first
Starting point is 00:27:18 time anyone had ever ordered from 489 to County Road 15. Kevin never found out what was really going on at that house in the woods, but he did some research on his own time. He discovered that the property had been the subject of several police investigations over the years, mostly related to reports of strange noises and smells coming from the area. Neighbors who lived miles away had complained about hearing dogs barking at all hours of the night, though no one had ever seen any dogs on the property. Most disturbing of all, Kevin learned that two hikers had gone missing in the woods near that property
Starting point is 00:27:53 about six months before his delivery. Their car was found parked at a trailhead about three miles away, but despite extensive searches, neither hiker was ever found. Kevin couldn't stop thinking about the sound of that dog barking and the way it had stopped so suddenly. Kevin quit his delivery job two weeks later and moved to a different city. He told me that he still has nightmares about those two men standing in the driveway, watching him drive away. He's convinced that if he had arrived 30 minutes earlier or stayed 30 seconds longer,
Starting point is 00:28:25 something terrible would have happened to him. These three stories represent just a tiny fraction of the disturbing encounters that pizza delivery drivers face every single night across the country. Most drivers have at least one story about a delivery that went wrong, a customer who seemed dangerous, or an address that just felt completely wrong. The scary truth is that when you're delivering food to strangers' homes late at night, you never really know what you're walking into. After collecting and verifying these three accounts, I reached out to several. pizza chains to see if they had any policies in place to protect their drivers from situations like these. What I discovered was shocking. Most major pizza companies have virtually no safety protocols for their delivery staff beyond basic traffic safety training. Drivers are essentially on their own
Starting point is 00:29:15 when they encounter dangerous customers or suspicious situations. The companies I spoke with admitted that they receive reports of threatening or bizarre customer behavior on a regular basis. But very few of these incidents ever get reported to law enforcement. Most managers simply tell their drivers to avoid certain addresses in the future, creating unofficial blacklists that get passed down through word of mouth rather than any official company policy. What's even more disturbing is that all three of these drivers told me they initially hesitated to report their experiences because they were afraid of losing their jobs. The pizza delivery industry has such high turnover that many drivers feel replaceable, and they worry that complaining about scary deliveries will just result in getting fewer shifts or being let go entirely.
Starting point is 00:30:04 Marcus, Sarah, and Kevin all emphasize the same point during our conversations. They want people to understand that pizza delivery drivers are real human beings, putting themselves at risk every night to bring you food. They're not just faceless service workers who magically appear at your door. They're people with families, hopes, and fears, just like everyone else. These stories have completely changed how I think about ordering food for delivery. I always make sure my porch light is on now. I answer the door quickly when drivers arrive,
Starting point is 00:30:35 and I try to tip generously because I know these folks are dealing with way more than just traffic and cold pizza. Most importantly, I never ordered delivery to an address where I'm not actually located, and I always answer my phone when the driver calls. If you're a delivery driver yourself, please trust your instincts. If something feels wrong about a delivery, don't ignore that feeling. Your safety is worth more than any tip or company policy. And if you're someone who regularly orders delivery, remember that a little kindness and consideration can make a huge difference in someone's night.
Starting point is 00:31:11 The next time you see a pizza delivery car pulling up to your neighbor's house at midnight, maybe take a second to make sure everything looks normal. You never know when that small act of awareness might help someone avoid becoming the subject. of the next horrifying story. Stay safe out there, and thanks for watching. Make sure to subscribe if you want to hear more real stories like these, and let me know in the comments if you've ever had your own strange encounter with a delivery driver, or if you are a driver yourself with a story to share.
Starting point is 00:31:40 Until next time, maybe think twice before ordering that late-night pizza.
