I've made you both something.
Did you do a reel of these?
I've seen them.
You were trying to be coy.
Show me?
This is a better vision than I ever could have, like, brought to life.
This is the Dashwood Sisters, like, at their peak.
Oh my gosh.
Guys, welcome back to Hot History.
This is a different kind of video to our normal Hot History videos today.
But I have just gotten some very exciting news.
I'm like, literally, fresh face, no makeup, just got the email that I,
I am going to be interviewing the cast of Sense and Sensibility when they come to Sydney.
And I was really thinking about what I could do.
When I normally interview stars, typically in a junket format where like you go to a hotel
and it's kind of part of like a press thing, I tend to do some kind of game, which is fun,
but I kind of was like racking my brains of what to do here and thought, how fun would it be if I could
make these divas something, you know? So I was thinking, what is so iconic about Jane Austen?
You know, what do I love when I watch Pride and Prejudice, when I watch Sense and Sensibility,
when I watch persuasion? What's the thing that I always find myself going, oh, slay? And for me,
it is always the bonnets. Okay, I was literally watching Pride and Prejudice 2005 last night,
and there is a scene where Jane Bennett is wearing the most incredible.
redible lace pink ribbon bonnet, which is just like chef's kiss.
So I thought, why don't I try and make Esme and Daisy Edgar Jones their own bonnets?
But not just any bonnets, I am going to make them hot bonnets.
Now, you may be thinking, what the hell is that?
And they are a thing of my own creation.
Basically, I want to make them super cut, okay?
I'm thinking sequins.
I'm thinking Diamanties.
I'm thinking cheetah print.
And I want them to be, like, basically the perfect summation of hot meets history.
So come along with me to go and figure out how I am going to create these three specific hot bonnet looks.
Okay guys, I am at Spotlight.
We have so much fabric to choose from.
So I know that I need three distinct separate looks.
So that's what we're going to be looking for.
Okay, so look number one, I know I want it to be definitely something cheetah vibe.
Right, so there's this, which I feel like is okay for the underside.
It's option one.
But I think we can do better, guys.
So let's look at this section.
So much fabric.
Cheetah.
Oh, hello.
Guys, this on the underside of the bonnet,
this is literally like pre-pleaded and everything.
All right, guys, this is look number one,
and I have been stopped in my tracks,
because I think I found looks two and three,
literally in the same place.
Let me switch you around.
Are we?
Okay.
This is a good.
exactly what I'm thinking.
These are our three looks, leopard, the blue sequins, the hot pink, and the organza as the
extra.
Now we just need to figure out, like, what structure we're actually going to use.
So I watched a couple of different TikToks, which I'll insert here.
So I know exactly how I'm going to make them, or so I say, we'll see once they actually
get here, but I need to pick what kind of hat I want to use, because I want to stick with the
traditional like straw look and to for it to still feel Regency, for it to still feel historical.
But obviously I want to elevate it and make sure that it can feel fresh and fun and modern.
So let's try and find the perfect straw hat for the base for us to then create these amazing
hot bonnets. So here are some of the traditional shapes of bonnets during the Regency period.
There are so many to pick from. You have some that are really elongated like number six here.
you have some that are more turned up like number one.
And there's really a mix of what we can do.
So it's time to decide what shape we want.
I know I definitely don't want something like this,
like the headbandy kind of ones.
I also know that I don't want the kind of like fully elongated.
That looks crazy.
So I think after doing this research,
I want something similar to this Eleanor design,
which has the front upwards,
and then the cap at the back, or similar to this kind of Eliza poke bonnet.
Right?
Again, we see that same shape where it's the actual cap and then the front kind of brim.
So this is what we're looking for, something akin to this that we can create, a poke bonnet.
Now, at first when I was looking up straw hats, there are a lot of different kinds.
So by process of elimination, at first I found,
like these kinds of bucket hats, which I was thinking at first, but I don't think that they would
give that like poke bonnet look. I think they'd be too soft and kind of like flop down. And again,
I don't think that the brim is big enough. So then I was like, well, what about this kind of vibe?
Like that's more like a structured brim. But I think this just looks a bit too solid and structured.
Like I don't think I could mould it into the shape that I want. And plus, I think it does.
need the bigger brim to like have all of the fabulous decoration. So I then found these from lack of
color. They're called the Paloma Sun Hat, which I feel like this is right up our alley guys.
Like I can see the wide brim. I can see the box at the back. And I think based on some TikToks I
watched, I can very easily cut the back and mold it as I want. If we look closer here, guys,
we can see it in action, right? I think that this is so gorge and they're going to be perfect.
So let's get three of these. I'm just going to go ahead and guess to get three mediums and just hope that
that's what works. I've got three of them coming to me. I've got express shipping so they should be
here today or tomorrow. And then we can start the actual process of accessorizing and making them,
but I'm so excited. I think this is such a fun idea. And I love
with Junkets being able to do something a bit different.
And I feel like this is personalized.
It's Regency. It's hot.
It's history.
And, you know, it's sense and sensibility core, which as a Jane Austen lover,
I feel like Jay would appreciate.
You know, I can see her with a hot bonnet on doing the press rounds in like 2026 if she were alive today.
So check back in for when the hats arrive and we get to the arts and the crafting.
Alright, next day, the hats have arrived.
So let's unbox them together.
I feel like they're not going to need an awful lot of modifications
just based on kind of the images online
and the specific shapes that I want.
But let's see, this box is massive, guys.
See how we go.
I really hope these are the right size.
Let's see.
Okay, they're a little big,
but I'd rather them be a little big than a little small, because again, we're going to
like cut them down and reshape them, but I feel like this is a really good start.
Again, I'll do some alterations at the back to make them a bit more, like, rounded and
in the correct shape with the brim up.
But I feel like of all the ones I looked at online, these were the best starting points.
So let's get into the shaping to get the exact form that we want.

Every year, Ontarians win billions playing with OLG.
In fact, there were over 200 million wins
with OLG last year worth $2.7 billion in prices.
That's like 12 wins for every person in Ontario.
An average of over 380 OLG wins every minute,
or about 190 wins by the top.
time this commercial is over. With OLG, winning happens here from Ancaster to Wickwemicon.
Play at OLG.ca.c.a. And winning could happen to you too. Winner. Ganyl. All right. So I think I've got
the kind of rough turn up and cut out that I want. Let's steam it out with the iron to see if we can
make it a little bit more kind of form fitting how it's actually going to sit. But I'm obsessed so far.
I go back to my OG girl for inspo here. This
shape that I want and taking my iron. So she's steaming it into shape.
There's lots of steam and lots of moisture. It's to reform the shape of the straw.
Alright, so that's what we're gonna do now. This diva is guiding the whole way. I've got my
whole, we'll see, and faith in her, so let's do it. It really smells like cow. Okay, so looking
at it in the mirror, I think it needs a bit more trimmed off the base, just because it's not
quite... It's giving a bit like mushroom around my head rather than what I was wanting with
that bonnet size. I mean shape. I think this is going to be better. Just trial and error divas.
I feel like I'm really a regency diva just like making my own DIY. I love the shape. Like it's
giving. It's like really giving. But I think I need some more rounding because it's kind of giving
dog ears. So let's recut. That's better. And I'm not worried about like the messy edges because it's
going to be covered by the fabric. So I feel like I'm pretty happy with this shape and the styling.
I'm going to put ribbons here, which will also bring it in more. And I'll just keep shaping it
like as it cools down and sets. But I feel like this is a pretty good base to start with. So let's go
and do it two more times. So I've done all three. I'm going to keep them pinned just with Bobby pins over
night to try and set because they are still a little kind of damp. So I'm thinking that hopefully
if I can let them set, then they'll hold their shape because I'm just worried that as soon as I
put the fabric on the underside, I then can't go back and restime and reshape. So I'm going to
leave these to set overnight and we're going to check back in tomorrow to see how they've gone
and then do the interior fabric that we got from Spotlight with our three distinct looks, which we're
then going to access their eyes and I'm just so excited. So step one, complete. All right, so we
are back the next morning. I've been letting these cool overnight. Let's like unclip them and fingers
cross it they've held. Their shape. I'm feeling good though. Worst case, I can always go back in
a bit more. Good? I feel like that's held really well, especially once I like when I put the ribbons on
and they hold more under and it sits more upright.
I feel like we are on here, guys.
Let's get to decorating the fun bit.
Literally what I've been wanting to do now that we've got the structure done.
All right, so we've got our three looks.
You'll remember we got them from Spotlight.
One is going to be the pink.
I don't know if it will be the hot pink or the organza, so we'll play around with it.
The next will be the sequence, which, like, in this light, are you joking?
I'm obsessed with this.
I feel like I want to get a skirt made of this afterwards.
and then the next one is the cheetah, which as we said when we picked it up, is pre-pleated and has a little bit of gold through it.
All three of these are going to sit on the underside at the brim, so let's start decorating.
So I'm going in and cutting the organza to the right dimension so that I can layer it underneath the blue sequence because it was quite see-through.
So first I went in with a thread needle, then I gave up on that guys and just went in with the glue gun,
sticking that underneath all the way around before then going in with the sequence after.
You guys can see here this just gives that bit of pinky, greeny, like element to make sure that
it really shimmers. Again, cutting around the outside, honestly, I changed for all three of
these bonnets how much I cut them, but I really loved how this turned out. And again,
the glue gun never failed me. All right, that only took like seven million hours to do literally one.
but now I know what I'm doing, I feel like I can do two and three easier, but ready, reveal, three, two, one.
Hello?
I think this is so cute, guys.
I will say it is a little heavy, so I think I'm going to need to get, like, some good ribbons to have it sitting there.
But I'm sorry, as if this isn't the cutest thing, if Jane Austen was wearing this back in the day,
she would have been pulling all the baddies and be even more of a 10 out of 10 than she already
you know. So this is the underside then done. All I now need to do is like the actual
accessorising and figure out what I'm going to do around the rim. But I feel like as far as bonnets go,
this is like a rave of a bonnet, right? Like I can be able to up in the Regency era. Bridgetening it
up in this hot bonnet. So now to do the other two, which I can be able to go. Which
hopefully don't take as long as this one did. Period. So I'm doing the exact same thing, guys,
like I said, cutting around the outside and then working with the hot glue gun around the
internal bits to make sure that the underside is stuck down right. And then the exact same thing
on the cheetah, although this was a harder fabric, so I had to use a bowl to like properly
cut it down to make sure the plates worked correctly. And then hot glue gunning it up. All right,
guys, I've got the three undersides all finished. Wait, I'll go get them. So we have look one,
which is the cheetah. And I actually think, I mean, I did it last. So like I've learnt tips
along the way, but I think I did this one the best. And it was really hard with the pleat.
Okay, I thought I was in for a win with the pleat, like just making it easier. No, no, no, no.
It was much harder. But look number one, the cheetah. Look number two, which I think is probably
my personal favorite, the disco ball bonnet. I just think it's so fun and I'm really glad I did
the lining underneath because in the light, like I can see the pinky, greeny, iridescence.
And then look number three is this hot pink diva, which again, so fun. I'm glad I did go with
the stronger pink and the little sequence on it just give it that extra bit of jush, which I think
it needs. So we are now going to go into the individual decorations. So I know that I need to add
something to kind of like hide this. I've got feathers. I have got um ribbon. I've got gems and
diamonties. So we're just going to go and see what works for each of these three. So I took
existing velvet ribbon that I had and then pinned it in place before going in with the hot glue gun to
make this gorgeous rooishing, which I was obsessed with. I actually can't believe it looks this good.
Like, no glaze to myself. I genuinely am impressed. I have zero sewing and crafting ability.
So I feel like this is coming to life. I think we need some like florets and some other bits and
pieces and I'm going to tidy up along this rim because currently very messy. But all in all,
I'm pretty impressive. So now I'm just going around that I've put everything on, because I'm going to
It's quite messy along the back and using this as like a binding to kind of hide the seams.
Once I did that around the whole bonnet, I then created these cute little florets and glued the exact same pink velvet around the top of the cap there.
So it all matched up before then putting the little like floret thing on, which I was obsessed with guys.
I even had a button kit to make the buttons and felt this turned out really good.
I'm back at Spotlight, guys.
We need to find Velvet ribbon to go around the other two bonnets.
So let's have a look.
I've got the bit of this.
So, I mean, I've already done the fuchsia.
Could do...
Like that?
That's too bright.
That's not thick enough.
That's kind of fun, the light pink.
What else is there?
Red? No.
Purple-y?
No.
No.
Okay, so maybe it's not velvet for this one.
But if I did a silk?
Right, there's way more down here.
I think that one was too thin.
It wasn't really giving.
Right, seeing green, no.
This purple?
It's kind of cute.
Okay, I think we do the purple for that one, guys.
This is look number two.
All right, so now that the pink, and the pink I
am kind of... So now I've got the pink which I feel like I am kind of stumped on guys.
What's this? It's like a purple kind of one. I feel like I want something to stand out against it.
Do the light pink. Maybe...
Red. Okay, maybe pink and red. That's kind of cute.
Blue.
I'm thinking maybe like a yellow.
Like is that cute because I've got those yellow feathers.
Like I feel like that's not the right.
Maybe that lighter yellow.
Orange.
The orange I think is a bit too like burnt.
That yellow is kind of like as a fluoro.
Offset maybe.
A bit thick because it also needs to go around like as the chin strap.
And purple's predictable, predictable and a bit snooze.
That's kind of cute.
Hello, I think I found it.
Guys, I think that's super cute.
This purple, with that, which gives like the perfect amount of kick.
I think we've got it.
All right, so we've got our giant collection of things now,
which means I'm going to go in first and foremost and create the kind of binding and thrill around the outside.
Now remember we picked this colour to go with this and then we picked the purple to go with that.
So I'm going to go in with my thread and needle and start to make that roaching effect.
All right, so on this one, I've just pinned the organza.
So I want a bit of extra contrast here and then I'm going to go with the feathers and this cute little button.
It's very much giving like Barbie Prince and the Pulper vibes.
And I'm obsessed with that.
That one's done.
I think it's so cute.
All right, we're back.
I still cannot believe we're doing these.
I'm like excited for the first day.
And then afterwards, it's just like,
how did anyone build the Coliseum?
There's always what I think of.
Obviously, bonnets to the Coliseum.
Not comfortable.
But I'm over at Tevis.
I've come back and I've decided that this diva needs a little bit more.
So I found this like chain kind of thing and I think that would be cute to add on there
with then like another little rosette thing on the other side.
So I'm going to go out that now.
All right, my mommy's here.
She's going to help me figure out how to do the like the ties around
because I'm just not sure where the right.
positioning would be.
So you think just like connected down here and then pull it in there and pull it in there and then
it does up.
All right.
Let's do that.
So like this whole project, guys, trial and error.
Okay?
And I felt like this one turned out well with the positioning.
So with the same positioning on the second one.
And honestly, again, just guess the length.
I did think that they would pull in a little bit easier than they actually ended up.
but by this point, guys, I was so tired.
I literally looked like a Regency-era ghost.
Ready?
Haunting.
Look at my skin.
I'm dying.
But I was happy with how it turned out in the end,
although the silk was a little bit slippery,
but we get there.
Disco ball bonnet.
Obsessed.
All right, now we've got this one,
which I am dubbing Regina George's bedroom.
I can very much picture the hot pink and purple vibe for her.
So I've got the ribbon,
which I think we'll be.
We should do around the top and obviously down the sides, but then it's just what to put on with it.
So I'll go ahead and add to the headband and then we'll check back in after that.
Right, so I just added these blue feathers and I'm kind of obsessed.
I think I need to tie in another colour.
I'm also going to add the matching blue bedazzled underneath with the feather.
I've got hot glue everywhere, guys.
like Spider-Man with the amount of like webby stuff.
This one's a bit of a different shape.
It's like a bit pointier.
It's a bit cacoshenic.
Yeah?
Looks pretty good to me.
Let's stick it down.
And then we are done, guys.
I'm so excited to be done with these.
It's been such a fun project, but I'm honestly so busy at the moment.
I'm trying to get ready for my trip to Switzerland and just do like 25 million other things
as well as obviously making everything.
for you guys and prepping for the actual junket itself so I'm pretty keen to get
these done but I feel like they turned out way better than I thought and I'm not
gonna lie I'm pretty impressed with my crafting skills as someone who doesn't
even know how to work a needle like I'm giving Bets Ross a run for a money I feel
like this one's so cute again it's giving like regina george bedroom zara larsson i should have put a
dolphin on here somewhere but this is the third one dunsky just getting my mom to burn
the ends of these so that they're not don't go fray and weird is that enough yeah all right guys
one pink cheetah diamonds situation we're going to put that in there number two
go ball, Barbie Princess and the Paul Par, obsessed with the silk. And then number three,
we have Regina George, Zara Larson, purple pink blues. Done, guys. Three hot bonnets for three
hot divas. So let's package them up and then take them to the interview tomorrow. And hopefully
I like them. Packed and ready to go. All right, guys, we are...

I'm starting to feel a little nervy.
Okay, I've done three junkets before this,
and they've all been fine.
But this is the first time I'm like,
I've worked hard on this thing,
And you just never know how they're going to react.
Like, of course they're going to be divine.
But you just, you know, never know.
And maybe they'll, like, they offended.
Be like, what is this hideous contraption?
We'll see.
Got my cards.
Got the bonnets.
Got myself.
Let's go.
All right, guys.
It's so nice to meet you.
My name's Ainslie.
And I have a personal philosophy in my life that history is incredibly hot.
And I love that you guys are bringing sensibility Jane Austen to new audiences.
So to kind of blend the hot with the history, I've made you both something.
So I was feeling pretty confident at home when I was making it.
Now I'm here, I'm sure I'm nervous.
So let's see how we're going to go.
I feel like Jane came to me in a dream and gave me this idea.
Did you do a reel of these?
I've seen them.
You were trying to be coy.
Okay, I can't deal.
All right.
Are we ready for the final product?
Yeah.
But we're really excited.
I've made you
the heck hot bonnets ladies
so there's different ones to pick from
disco ball
like Barbie Princess and the Purple was my
inspo for this one
that is incredible option two
I was thinking Zara Larson Midnight's Sun
she kind of came to me as inspiration
never ending oh my gosh with the orchids
right
very good that one and then
hot pink cheater print
bedazzled
Cheetah girls.
So up to you guys which one you'd like.
They're so beautiful.
I'm so much that you.
From scratch.
They are amazing.
Step one through the whole process.
So did you make the actual the bonnet itself?
Wow.
You didn't just buy the bonnet and then put the stuff.
That's very impressive.
That is so impressive.
That is amazing.
Jane would be proud of me.
She would be very proud.
Whichever we don't choose, will you.
I've got hot glue gun burns so I'm going to wear mine.
Whichever one you guys would like.
I'm feeling really drawn to the blue shimmer shimmer.
You take that is giving.
They take the blue, shimmer, shimmer.
You take the blue.
Do I wear it?
You can wear it if you want to.
Wow.
It looks really beautiful actually.
Yeah.
I'm obsessed.
Yeah.
I'll go for cheetah.
I think the cheater as well.
I'm so happy you chose that.
I feel like that's going to be cute and then I'm going to go.
Wow.
With the purple.
Actually really gorge.
Are you not wearing yours now?
Are we wearing it for a second?
Guys, you're like my muses.
I'm just doing it.
Show me?
Show me.
this is a better vision that I ever could have like brought to life.
This is a Dashwood sisters like at their peak.
Oh my gosh.
The love of run is going with.
It's so good with the pink.
No, seriously.
Wow.
All right.
Shall we get into the question?
Now that we're like historically accurate.
So Jane Austen,
she's been around for like 230 years, right?
An icon.
Why do you think we're still so obsessed with her today?
Well, I think what she was writing about was so timeless, you know.
I think that she was writing about interpersonal dynamics,
relationships, the human heart, sisters.
her wits, societal dynamics, you know, and her wit really translates even now because it's always
so situational.
I know she's so funny.
She's so funny.
And I think that her observations about the specificity of certain characters.
Because she is so character-led, you know, we all know an Eleanor.
We all know Marianne.
We all know a Mrs. Jennings.
Yeah.
Obsessed.
I mean, obsessed.
So good.
Even though she was writing 200 years ago, I feel like, you know, the kernel of what she was
exploring is something we can all still relate to.
Yeah.
100% I think Daisy summed it up.
I agree.
What more can you say?
What more can you add to that beautiful reply?
No, I agree.
I think it's like pure escapeism as well.
Yeah.
It's like a retreat from what's happening now.
Yeah.
Or like terrible stuff that's going on now.
To be able to go back then and experience, I think it's so nice.
Yeah.
Well, thank you ladies.
Thank you so much.
I'm glad I got to bring my like bonnet moment to life.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Me and my hot glue gun burns.
Yeah.
It was worth it.
Very appreciative.
I think I'm going to put this on a plink somewhere in my house.
Stop.
And if you don't.
wear that for the rest of the day.
I'll be very upset.
