Starting point is 00:00:17 Two and five Canadians will hear the words, you have cancer. That's why every step and dollar raised matters. On September 19th, join thousands in Toronto for the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation Walk. Challenge yourself, friends, and family to walk 21 kilometers in support of life-saving research. Together, we can carry the fire and help create a world free from the fear of cancer. Register today at pmcf walk.ca.ca. What's up bad babies? Hello.
Starting point is 00:00:50 Wow. Welcome. We saw how many empty chairs there were, but it's still overwhelming how many of you were here. There's a lot of people. Thank you for coming. Oh, my gosh. Welcome to House of Our Live. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:05 At Oriole Park at Camden Yards. This is my church. This is the most important place in the world to me. Thank you for being here. That's Mallory Rubin. That's Joanna Robinson. Looks like she was born to wear an Orioles jersey. Sports show.
Starting point is 00:01:26 It's an absolute crime that I have an Orioles jersey with my name on it, but I'll take it. Thank you so much. We have decided today. Oh yeah, we haven't previously announced it. It's a secret. No, just us. To do a sacred, cherished, seasonal tradition, live in person. It's the fall hype meter.
Starting point is 00:01:49 Let's go. Let's go. Just for you. You all get to know before anyone else what we're excited about. You will. And after the game, of course, we will see you all out at the Pure Wager Pavilion, our special section. TBD, if there's going to be a rain delay. So far, no.
Starting point is 00:02:13 I heard there was a tornado warning. Welcome to Baltimore, me. Yeah, any quick takes you want to share on the mid-Atlantic humidity before we dive in? Are you ready to show your bug bites? Oh, yeah. Check this out. You guys see these? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:32 I grew up here, but I guess my body has forgotten what the local venom is like. So having an incredible allergic reaction to the local mosquitoes. That's exciting. Let's refresh everybody on the rules. Here's how the height meter works if you don't know. We count down 10 to 1. What we're most excited for for the, you know. You're nodding.
Starting point is 00:02:52 You know. We don't know the other person's list. It's a surprise. Usually Joanna can guess somewhere between 90 and 100% of my picks. And she is a complicated mystery to me. And I never know what she's going to surprise me with. If we have a shared pit, we will wait till the higher of the two spots to hit it. That might be a little tough life. We'll feel it out in real time. We'll see how it goes. Genre picks. That means if it is a topic that could be covered on House of R. If it makes sense, in our universe in any way, which increasingly, like we're doing a live show at Camp at Yards today, we talked about Survivor a few months ago. We do whatever we want. But we're going to try to adhere to the spirit of the exercise and to the rules. Did you not? We'll see. A mystery. You didn't look at the Google Doc I sent at 1am? No. Did you send it at Google Doc? No, I did not. I asked if you wanted to make a notes doc and he said no. I know. I did it anyway.
Starting point is 00:03:50 Any type of media is eligible. TV shows. film, comic book, novel, video game. Do you have Grand Theft Auto 6 and number one? Of course. I don't know to spoil your list. Okay. Time frame. All right.
Starting point is 00:04:07 We're doing something a little weird today. We honestly just want to be able to talk about lanterns because it rules. And so even though the summer height meter ran through August and we both picked lanterns for the summer height meter, we are starting the fall height meter on August 16th. running it through November 30th, so that Lanterns is eligible to be included again today. What is time? We have never once. We've been doing the height meters three to four times a year. Sometimes we skip a season. We realize later we skipped the season for half a decade now, nearly half a decade, never once match the season with the actual calendar. Not once. Not once.
Starting point is 00:04:47 Honorable mentions, if we have time, time permitting. We're going to do some honorable mentions at the end. we might have a special guest sharing a couple hype picks. We'll see. Again, nobody knows when the game is going to start. So we're going to find out. Rain delay permitting in real time. Any other rules that we need to refresh on. So you can't have like slow horses, for example, on your hype meter today, even though Jackson
Starting point is 00:05:09 Lamb is a patron saint of this podcast. Even that, even though Jack Lotton might be James Bond. Pick it. Even though House of the Dragon star Olivia Cook is returning for this season. Damn, spoiler. As well, spoiler, it's in the trailers. All right, should we get to the top 10? Let's do it.
Starting point is 00:05:28 You want to start with your number 10? Can you start? Are you still deciding on your list? Are you locking it in real time? First of all, she saw me redoing it in real time just 20 minutes ago. Hipe moves with the moment, and that's another thing we should say. The height meter, we always slightly disagree on this. It's not about predicting what is going to be good.
Starting point is 00:05:50 It's about living in the moment of possibility until something is, is decidedly definitively bad, and we can't pretend anymore that we're excited about it. That's how the hype meter works. I think I'm increasingly coming to your side of this. Fantastic. All right, I'll start. My number 10. Oh, wait, are there any kids here?
Starting point is 00:06:12 Oh, yeah. No, that's, that will be something to ask, but not until number nine. And again, at number five. Can you, can you woo if you have a child with you? Okay. Ed. They're ready. Hello, Ed. Okay, family-friendly event. We'll see how that part goes. Number 10, I have selected Resident Evil.
Starting point is 00:06:42 I also have Resident Evil number 10. At number 10? Yeah. Amazing. Incredible. We're so in sync. It's almost like we spend 18 hours a week together. It's a two-for for me. What else do you have? This is where my stock in Austin Abelms is going to pay off. Austin Abens, who's the star of Resident Evil, and also a film called Whalefall.
Starting point is 00:07:07 Hell yeah. Let's go. Yeah. I texted my best friend this morning. Weird. I don't recall getting a text from you about whale fall and Resident Evil. That's odd. Because she read the book, Whalefall.
Starting point is 00:07:20 And I said, all right. And I was like, would we call that? genre. It's about a guy inside of a whale. He's trying to get out of the whale. And she said, much like Andy Weir with Project Hail Mary, they tried to make it scientifically plausible, but it's still a guy
Starting point is 00:07:37 surviving in a whale, probably longer than someone would survive in a whale. So I think that genre. So it's my Austin Abrams tufer at number 10. I love it. I thought you would be surprised that I selected this because this is an
Starting point is 00:07:53 overt abject horror film and I can't handle horror. I'm a coward and a baby. But this movie, that's my mom. Hi, Mom. Honestly, took her longer than I thought to weigh in. This movie Resident Evil comes out September 18th. So this will be the first movie potentially that I see as a 40-year-old. And I've decided I can do it. I can handle horror at that point of my life. The big four zero is when you get on board with new horror. I'm going to pivot to horror. And I just feel like I'm missing the Zach Crager moment.
Starting point is 00:08:35 Because you haven't seen weapons. I've not seen weapons. Okay. And you haven't seen barbarians. No. I think you could handle weapons. It's a lot of witch stuff. It's really fun.
Starting point is 00:08:47 Adam is giving me a, eh. Barbarian, absolutely not. Never. Not even in the brightest day. No, no. I'm not a fan of horror movies. I'm not a fan of the Resident Evil games. Not that I dislike them, just haven't played them.
Starting point is 00:09:00 Don't really like the prior Resident Evil movies, but I thought these trailers looked amazing. Wow, Shawfires and Milo Giovavovich. Tough. 2026. I'm so sorry. Okay, number nine. What do you have?
Starting point is 00:09:18 Okay, this is where I'm putting Godzilla minus zero, November 6th. Fantastic. I was counting on you to have this. This was what Resident Evil knocked off my top ten. So it's my first honorable mention. Okay. This is most of the cast. Who here saw Godzilla Minus 1?
Starting point is 00:09:37 I was late to this. We talked about this at the beginning of the year with Rob and Sean. We were talking about the hype draft. And I had yet to see Godzilla minus 1. But I've since seen it. I've gone to church. It is incredible. I'm really excited for this movie.
Starting point is 00:09:57 Mahoney took this in the fifth and final round of the House of our hype draft. I took Lader 2099 right before that. Let's put a pin in that. We'll go back to that later. Discuss whether that was a wise decision. Okay, no children here. Like, are you sure? Also, do you have maybe a delicate disposition?
Starting point is 00:10:23 They came to a House of Our Live show. They know what they're going to get. Shine on. You know it's a family-friendly event. We'll keep it in our pants. My number nine. Your entire family is here. Oh, they don't care.
Starting point is 00:10:40 They're used to it. They're used to it. They were at the rewatchables live show for Farscombe. They're good. It almost doesn't matter what movie you've finished. True. Could have been anything. That sentence with.
Starting point is 00:10:55 Could have been anything. Romanticie smuggle. It's a two for here. someone say yum exciting I just saw this Spike shirt that's very important to me
Starting point is 00:11:09 a splintered harmony oh spike nice court of splintered harmony title hot off the presses this was just announced this week this is the six Akotar Akatar
Starting point is 00:11:20 I always feel so weird to say that and I'm pairing it with threshing day the Rebecca Yaros 3.5 in the Imperian series, which, if you're a fan of the court books, you know that any kind of like, here's a novella to tide you over can go wrong, actually, right?
Starting point is 00:11:41 The fourth installment in the court books is not beloved by all. But Threshing Day, here's the premise. This comes out September 29th. It is... Yeah, what's being Thresh? So, 13 stories about Threshing Day, about the riders and their dragons. Great stuff. will there be an opportunity to fill
Starting point is 00:12:02 Freshing Day with sex scenes if it's about the writers and their dragons and how? I would say before they get on the dragons after they get on the dragons while they're on the dragons. Yeah. The dragons of course
Starting point is 00:12:18 also share the mating bond. While they're walking the parapet, you know, like any of those. I'm thrilled. On the court front, splintered harmony. So the seventh book, which comes out just a few months after in January, court of forgotten melody. I love that. Interesting.
Starting point is 00:12:33 I think exciting. It's a great title. These are part of a new trilogy inside of this universe called the Valkyry cycle. So it's like kind of a TBD reveal how present will Reese and Farah and our beloved faves be? I don't know, but I can't wait to find out. I miss those knee tats that Reese says. Always described in great detail and key moments. I just heard a sound I just heard a sound I've never heard before.
Starting point is 00:12:59 from right around there. A sort of grunting acknowledgement of the tattoos. TBD if we cover those in real time this fall, but we will of course check in during the V-Day Quickey next year. Yeah, absolutely. No matter what. But we have been trying to make some plans with perhaps another pick on your list.
Starting point is 00:13:20 We sure have. We sure have. I'll just notice unless you, do you have any, you have a book pick coming up? Then I'll save this. Okay. What do you have as your number eight? It's which stuff go time. Isn't it always? September 11th, nothing else is going on on that day, I think. That's when Practical Magic 2 is coming out.
Starting point is 00:13:42 Nice. Yeah. I mean, Nicole's here. Sandy's here. All of their plastic surgery decisions are here. You know, Maisie Williams is in this. So, yeah, it's a bunch of which. stuff and like Lee Pace.
Starting point is 00:14:00 I know. I should be more embarrassed by this than I am, but saw the trailer for this the other day in the theater seeing Oak Street. And this very like female forward story about sisterhood. It's just about women and friendship. Yeah. And empowerment, I was like, Leapace looks dynamite. You're like what percentage of this movie is naked Leapace?
Starting point is 00:14:19 The tattoos on the torso, just delightful. Okay. Great pick. So you've been excited for this for some time. Yeah, I would say it has gone down my list based on. some things I've heard, but it's still here. I'm still excited. They couldn't kick it out of the top ten.
Starting point is 00:14:33 No, still here. My number eight is season three of Percy Jackson. Are. Similarly, they can't talk me out of being like, not the level of conversation and buzz around season two that I'm going to try to do a better job of turning this way. Hello, everyone. Look at that.
Starting point is 00:14:54 There we go. Bad babies. Oh, my God. Look at these custom shirts. Oh, my God. Was sweet baby Grogo and the Anzellans? Incredible stuff. Wow. Amazing.
Starting point is 00:15:02 On Orioles, orange. Wonderful. We're so bad at making merch and our listeners are so good at it. I know they're great. Yeah, exactly. You guys want merch? It's a summer. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:14 November 20th, Percy Season 3, Season 2, Just Air. Is that a good thing or a bad thing that these seasons come out mere months apart? Those children are growing. They're tall. They're so tall. We have a full Mike Wheeler Stranger Things situation on our hand. Like we're at stretch forward night. We saw Walker at D23.
Starting point is 00:15:32 When he came out, Jomi, who wasn't even sitting next to me, he was like, he was like, Joanna, that's a grown man. That is a grown adult man. Playing a middle schooler. You know, season two did not generate the buzz, maybe that season one did, but I had fun. And season three adapts Titans Curse, which is my favorite Percy book. I think it's the best Percy book. So I'm very excited not only to see that tale adapted.
Starting point is 00:15:57 Artemis is here. Kate McKinnon is here as Aphrodite, incredible stuff. But most importantly of all, the DeAngelo's are here. Bianca's here and Nico, my favorite Percy Jackson character is here. So I just can't wait for that. I'm excited. Will we talk about it? Yeah, of course we will.
Starting point is 00:16:15 I think it's our responsibility you talk about, don't you think so? Fantastic. Okay. What is your number seven? I also have an adaptation of a later book and a beloved series. Intriguing. It's sunrise on the Reaping. Okay. Hunger Games. Nice. I actually really liked the last Hunger Game movies. I had a great time with it. I didn't see it. Yeah. And Francis Lawrence, who's the director, who also directed Long Walk. Did you guys
Starting point is 00:16:47 see Long Walk? Incredible movie. And if you haven't seen it, you should know that they have cast every single actor who was in that movie in like it's just this incredible farm team is that a thing we say not not only is it a thing we say it's a thing we say here great at the ballpark so i think paying attention to the young actors and sunrise on the reaping will we'll we'll do good november 20th i mean some people you've heard of el fanning mayahawk kieran colkin jesse plemmons mckenna grace so this is the story of young Hamidt, Abernathy, Woody Harrelson's character. And I've heard that, I haven't read the book yet,
Starting point is 00:17:30 but I've heard the book is really, really good. So I'm excited. I'm excited. I'll read the book. I'll catch up on the prior film. I love the Hunger Games. Yeah. I just haven't participated in this most recent wave of Hunger Games content.
Starting point is 00:17:42 The prequels. Yeah. Maybe it's time. We don't have anything else going on. You love a prequel. I do. I do. I'm a glutton.
Starting point is 00:17:49 I don't love a prequel. I can't get enough. You might have my number seven higher on your list. Avatar? I don't. Sheesh. Well, Jomey, are you here?
Starting point is 00:18:01 Are you excited? No, I'm excited. I'm very excited. There's just certain things I knew were on your list that I left for you. You know me so well. October 9. Paramount Plus. Look at that.
Starting point is 00:18:13 This is apparently going to be a couple seasons, a couple books, 13 episodes each. And it's, of course, the newest show, the newest avatar installment from the original creators, the OG squad, right? So that is very exciting. Looking forward to that. It's a sequel to both the original Avatar
Starting point is 00:18:28 The Last Airbender and Legend of Cora, which we love. Rora Heads. It's Earthbender Time. It is. It is. Earth Bender Time,
Starting point is 00:18:38 Avatar Pavi, who is a twin. So that's a great little concept. Like a non-bender twin. Incredible stuff. I'm sure I have no issues with that. There's an apocelisk of avatar that has unfolded
Starting point is 00:18:50 and the gang must save the Seven Havens. It's a great plot. More importantly, obviously, than the potential decimation of civilization, the new creatures. It's a cat monkey, and it appears to be big enough to ride. This is important. We, I think, consider Appa, Momo, Babu, you know, not only magical creatures and characters, but close personal friends, central figures in our lives.
Starting point is 00:19:16 So I can't wait to meet the cat monkeys, voiced by Dee Bradley Baker, icon legend. Who's very exciting? What more do you need? I hope the show's good. I think it's going to be a killer. I'm really excited for it. It seems like it. Speaking of killers. Number six.
Starting point is 00:19:33 What do you got? This is where I have play phase. Do you have it higher? I do have it higher. Okay. I do. Because I'm all in on horror. I like this. I'm going to be so scared and I'm never going to sleep.
Starting point is 00:19:46 I don't really sleep anymore anyway. No. So you might as well fill your time. The nightmares can't get you if you're already awake. Something to think about. Number six is where I have Blade Runner, 2099. I feel sure this is not on your list. It's not.
Starting point is 00:20:03 You were not similarly compelled by the Sunshine Noir description at the San Diego Comic-Con panel that we attended. Faffled. I'm intrigued by the term. A sunshine noir. What a contradiction. I can't wait to find out what it means. Did the trailer for Blade Runner 2099 look good?
Starting point is 00:20:23 Did the San Diego Comic-Con panel convince us that the show, will be good. Maybe. Maybe not. That's up to each person to decide for themselves. That's so high for that squeaky little maybe. Here's the thing. Blade Runner is a sacred text in my home. It is the original Blade Runner film is my husband's favorite movie. It is very tepid.
Starting point is 00:20:50 Is that more about people not liking Blade Runner or not liking Adam? What do we think that's about? Not a very loud applause for that. Adam, how excited are you for Blade Runner in 2019? Oh, God. She's standing up. Okay, not impressed by the trailer. World's biggest Blade Runner fan, not impressed by the trailer.
Starting point is 00:21:24 When we watched Blade Runner together for the first time, and I was telling my dad about Adam, and I was like, yeah, we watch Blade Runner. and he's like, honey, a man doesn't show you Blade Runner unless he's interested. It was right. It was right. Which cut? Which cut?
Starting point is 00:21:43 Directors cut only. Right? Always. Directors cut only for Blade Runner. That's serious business. Yeah. It is. Blade Runner 2049.
Starting point is 00:21:51 Bill New Five, Bryce. Wonderful movie. So I'm excited about the prospect of a Blade Runner live action television show and a prestige TV show. Now. this is releasing as a binge drop on Thanksgiving, which I consider to be incredibly distressing news and obviously just an ill omen. I don't think there's any other way to interpret it, but I remain excited until I can't be it before. Played Render 29.9. Number six.
Starting point is 00:22:20 That's the point of the exercise. Yeah. We're heading into the top five. Yes. Here's the question for you. Tell me. Am I allowed to have something on my list that I've already seen? Oh, so you know it's good. Yeah, why not? Great.
Starting point is 00:22:36 Spoil all of it for us. Tell us everything that happens. I watched this because I moderated the panel at San Diego Comic-Con. It is Hope, a South Korean film. It's bananas. It is absolutely bonkers. It was such a fun watch, though. And it was so fun to watch it and then talk about it,
Starting point is 00:23:00 like primarily to talk about it with people who've seen. seen it. It's very confusing. You're like, Joanna, describe the plot. Really hard to. Honestly, aliens are here. At least two of them are played by Michael Fosbender and Alicia Vekander. So two of the hottest people are alive, but they're CGIs, so you can't even tell it to them. See, that seems like a critical error. But it's incredible action. It's like a slow boy. Like, I'm really excited for everyone to see it. South Korean film, Alien Invasion, Adventure. Fantastic.
Starting point is 00:23:38 I love it. Comedy. Action. Comedy. Yeah. A genre mashup. Yeah. A blend.
Starting point is 00:23:45 Yeah. Brew. Something for horse girls. Something for everyone. Yeah. You know how to sell it. They should get you involved with the marketing. Number five.
Starting point is 00:23:57 This is where I have Wicker. Are we sure there are no children in here? Who knows? what Wicker is about. Who knows the premise of Wicker? Okay. Wicker is, for anyone who is not aware, Olivia Coleman's Fisherwoman,
Starting point is 00:24:20 who apparently smells like fish and also maybe doesn't believe in the institution of marriage. Okay. Asked Peter Dinklitch's basketweaver to make her a husband. Fashioned means. a man and he
Starting point is 00:24:40 weaves her Alexander Scarsguard as a Wicker fuck Buffet. That is the plot of Wicker. I'm surprised it's not number one. Olivia Coleman fucks a basket
Starting point is 00:25:02 is... Yes. We have a lot of questions about like friction and... We got a lot of emails from listener based on our wicked part two discussion of the burlap situation on Fierro. They were like, we need you to go back into the texture minds to explore the wicker dick, I guess. I didn't like saying it.
Starting point is 00:25:28 You were so upset that you had to just say that. I didn't like saying it. It's great. Should we put that on the birch? Wicker dick? Wicker dick? Working title? Let me take you behind the curtain for a second.
Starting point is 00:25:41 Mallory and I just had a big meeting planning, like all the things we were going to cover for the rest of the year. Really excited. There's like a lot of cool plans coming. You just dedicated so much time to when and how are we covering Wicker. It felt important. And she got so excited when she figured out that the Akitar book is coming out like a few days after Wicker. So she's like, can we smash it together? or the most inappropriate
Starting point is 00:26:11 Yeah, weave something. Yeah. Like a basket. Indeed. Why does every movie come out on October 23rd? What's up to that? I don't know. Is anyone from Hollywood here?
Starting point is 00:26:23 Clayface, Wicker, Wildwood. Wildwood. I put a pin in that I expect. For higher on your list, I believe Clara on the Sun comes out that weekend, too. Let's spread some of this out. Let's spread some of this out. Wicker, we can't wait. based on a short story.
Starting point is 00:26:39 Should we read it? Little book club? Absolutely. Great. A little book talk. Yeah. Do you think they'll make, you know, like noises in the audiobook? I mean, I hope so.
Starting point is 00:26:49 If they're doing the appropriate job and committing to the craft. It would be very creaky. When you buy noises, you bent the creek of the wicker, not like sex moans. Yeah. Understood. No, like, both. No, the sex moans are a given. That's a given.
Starting point is 00:27:02 But how creaky will it be? Here's a question for you. What will the Quinn follow up? to wicker me. You think they're going to get SARS-guard to do... I mean, yes, people would listen. But I think, I don't think it's like Sean Hadessey from the pit to SARS-Guard. That's a leap.
Starting point is 00:27:21 That's a leap for Quinn. Yeah, again, Jamie Campbell-Bauer to SARS-Guard. I think that's, I think that's a gap. Okay. But swing for the fences, as they say. You're at the park. You're at the park. You're at Camden Yards.
Starting point is 00:27:35 Sports Joe. Thank you. Two and five Canadians will hear the words, you have cancer.
Starting point is 00:28:07 All right, are we on number four? Yeah. What do you have? This is my book smuggle. All right, let's hear up. So a couple sort of runner up here. We have Life Out of Order, which is the sequel to the Time Traveler's Wife, a movie and a show that we have questions about,
Starting point is 00:28:29 but a book I really enjoyed. So I'm excited for this book. That is coming out in October 6th. and then we have, and I, wow, didn't write down the name of the book. Emily St. John Mandel's book, it's Exit Something. Thank you, exit party. Thank you, September 15. Unbelievable.
Starting point is 00:28:56 All right. I'll allow a lot, though. Pete. All right, Pete. Yeah. Okay. Fair enough. But most importantly, September 15, Deadbeat by Lee Bardugo.
Starting point is 00:29:06 And that one's what I'm really excited about. It's a third in a trilogy. I've been long awaiting its arrival. So that's my book smuggle. Fantastic stuff. I'll just toss out also on the book smuggle front. Slant Wise History's collected stories. Alex E. Harrow, we love Alex Harrow's writing.
Starting point is 00:29:23 Just the prose is gorgeous. Finally caught off on Everlasting. Just as good as Joe said it was. Wonderful. And this short story collection is both a printed home for some prior short stories that we've read and loved. And five, I believe five. I have new short stories, so that's exciting. Four is where I have Clayface.
Starting point is 00:29:41 You had this where? Lower. Clayface. October 23rd. Another movie on October 23rd. Unbelievable. This movie looks amazing. Because we thought, okay, maybe we would put Akitar and Wicker together for like a horny thing,
Starting point is 00:29:55 or maybe Wicker and Clayface together for body horror. Or maybe all three of them together. You can do it all. Body horror mantisie. Yeah, I love it. Oh, ma'am. We love a smuggle, we love a mashup. This is the third film in DCU's Chapter 1, Gods and Monsters.
Starting point is 00:30:12 And look, we're one for two so far. Superman ruled. We, you know, we don't support stories of future women here on House of Bar. Famously. So we did not podcast about Supergirl. I think the Clayface looks like it's going to be amazing. This movie looks great. The tone and the vibe of the trailer conveyed very specific, very clear, very assured.
Starting point is 00:30:34 Can't wait for this. You're a year of horror. I love this. Mike Flanagan. This is my, you have long sung the praises of all Mike Flanagan creations, wrote the script. Guess what I heard. Tell me. Rob Mahoney was watching Midnight Mass on the plane ride to Hawaii, finally.
Starting point is 00:30:48 There you go. There you go. Number three. We're in the top three. Yeah. You know what I'm really excited about? The fact that you haven't mentioned Wildwood yet, which means I've converted you or you don't have it on your list. You don't have it on your list?
Starting point is 00:31:05 I have it as my top honorable... I said already something else was my top honorable match. I have it as my second or third honorable mention. Because, as you so often say to me, I knew you would have it on your list. You can't bring that back in my face. You don't play by those rules. I knew you would have it on your list, so I didn't put it on mine. The top three is, to me, unimpeachable.
Starting point is 00:31:32 It means you don't have something from my top three on your list. Wow, did I forget something? I think so. me. Sounds like something I would do. Okay. Wildwood is my number three devastated to leave here. It's not on your list at all. I can't wait to share it with you. October 23rd. Yeah. Again. Have you heard of it? A reason I'm quite excited is that this is a story based on a beautiful book by Columoy of the Decembris. Not enough to be a great songwriter. You have to write. write an incredible book.
Starting point is 00:32:08 Okay, cool. And this is from the animation studio. Likea, who've done incredible work. Box trolls, my personal favorite, but Kubo, there's a million great
Starting point is 00:32:19 like a stop motion films. Why are you looking at like that? You're going to love this movie. I can't wait. But the premise is about a young girl whose brother gets kidnapped.
Starting point is 00:32:30 Stop me if you've heard this story before. She has to follow her kidnapped brother, younger brother, into a mysterious land and other world and fight to get him back. Sensation. It's the plot of labyrinth, a movie you will be seeing for the first time on Monday. Monday night. Monday night, Friends of the Fest, American Cinematheum Tech, Los Feliz 3.
Starting point is 00:32:53 If you're in Los Angeles, please come because that screening is at 10 o'clock, which is at this point of my life past my bedtime. So come hang and help me stay awake. I can't like to see this movie with you. Yeah. I'm just going to read out the cast. You're so mad. I'm so mad.
Starting point is 00:33:09 No, I'm not. I'm not. Carrie Mulligan, Marcia Ali. Okay. Jacob Trombley, Aquafina, Angela Bassett,
Starting point is 00:33:17 Jake Johnson, Charlie Day, Amandless Denberg, Jamain Clement, Maya Erskine, Tom Waits, and Richard E. Grant. Incredible.
Starting point is 00:33:28 My dad loves Tom Waits. How's your, dad feel about you leaving a Tom way it's movie off your top 10? Pretty disappointed, I imagine. Just like you. Pretty disappointed. We're good. We're good.
Starting point is 00:33:46 What from my top three? Don't you have on your list? What did I forget? And number three, I have Vision Quest. Yeah, I have that I. You have it at two? Or at one?
Starting point is 00:34:01 It's not up to me to tell you that right now. Okay. So we'll put a pin in that. will go then to number two. This is where I have lanterns. Oh, oh, okay. I didn't put lanterns on my list. That's right. Okay. I knew you'd have it. You bet the rules of space time so we could put lanterns on the list. And I felt like it didn't need our hype, but I support you. I ask you this. What is more important? What is more sacred? What is more profound? The calendar? or Kyle Chandler in that jacket with that hair.
Starting point is 00:34:42 You've seen the first episode of Lanterns. We podcasted on the first episode of Lanterns. We love Lanterns. Lanterns is a delight. I love the first episode. I haven't seen more, but I did love the first episode. People seem excited about lanterns. It's a great moment to be a fan of DC.
Starting point is 00:34:55 I want to hear from this room. Yeah. Woo if you liked Lancer. Absolutely. There we go. We got a couple people saying they've not seen lanterns. Will you watch lanterns after this? Great.
Starting point is 00:35:06 Oh, you got a strong maybe. Sunday night on HBO. This is an HBO Sunday night prestige treatment for a DC Comics adaptation. Eight weeks. We've podcasted on one episode. It was wonderful.
Starting point is 00:35:21 Excellent dynamic between Hal Jordan and John Stewart. It's set in Rushville, Nebraska. A lot of football humor for the Friday Night Lights fans in the first episode. Some true detective vibes. It's great.
Starting point is 00:35:33 Remember how we were talking about when they were like, there's hail Rushville and we're like, Hale doesn't really sound like alien. Yeah. We got about a million emails from people saying hail in is the joke. Alien. This is why we need all of you.
Starting point is 00:35:51 Never felt smarter. Any feedback in those same emails on the Whalen, the alien, Bailey, the alien conversation that we have since the 18 and 12 minutes. Apparently, Whalen is a Whalen, Yutani reference. So that's great to know. Wonderful. Secondly, we got 50 suggestions for other names that rhyme with alien. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:15 So we'll read them on the pod. I can't wait. So what do you have at number two, moment of truth? Is it rings of power or vision quest? What's your number one? It's rings of power. At two. Damn.
Starting point is 00:36:27 Okay. Okay. That's my number one. So which order do you want to hit these? We can do vision quests first and ends with rings of power. Why not? Tell us why you're excited about vision quest? Okay.
Starting point is 00:36:37 I was already so excited for Vision Quest, but then we went to D23, which was a hellacious journey for us. We did not have fun. I won't be back. This trip to Baltimore has been a delight, but there have been a few setbacks, including the mosquitoes that have attacked Mallory. We had to move hotel rooms for reasons we don't need to explain. A lot of things have happened. There's a potential tornado warning.
Starting point is 00:37:03 None of that compares to what it took to get us to Anaheim. We live in Los Angeles. to be clear. Tell you something about the traffic. Yeah. That was a tough journey. The Vision Quest trailer was so good. And as I mentioned in our check-in on our trip to D-23,
Starting point is 00:37:22 that I have since watched that trailer like 20 times. I'm really, really excited. And I just feel like it's for me. It's for all of us, but it's also for me. So I love Wanda Vision. I love Agatha. and this is sort of the third in that trilogy. I love Paul Bedney.
Starting point is 00:37:41 I'm really, really excited. Famously, you love AI. This movie does appear to be about a bunch of AI constructs meeting in a mind palace. But you do love a Mind Palace. You do actually love a Mind Palace. Maybe that cancels out the AI. AI confronting humanity. We love that.
Starting point is 00:38:04 What does it mean to be human? Identity. is that my son? Are you scrambling to claw back how much you should just try to ruin my number one pick for me? No. I have it in my top three. I'm thrilled.
Starting point is 00:38:15 I agree. I thought the trailer looked amazing. Genuinely looked, very creative, very specific and really fun. Joe and I had the pleasure of potting about Agatha together, but Wanda Vision,
Starting point is 00:38:26 this is how you know, it was a long time ago. It was before we were potting together. It was the last thing that came out before we potted together. Half a decade ago. Wild. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:35 Sheesh. So we're excited to revisit that. Talk about it together. That'll be great. And then cover this wonderful new show together. Is it like the best moment for MCU TV? No. That's okay.
Starting point is 00:38:49 Maybe this will be a wonderful celebration as we close a chapter on that. And then, you know, when Figey goes out into Hall H at Comic Con and is like, we're not here to talk about TV. We'll say, okay, instead of, well, why aren't you showing us a Vision Quest trailer? Which is what we said. He said, because you're going to have to come to Anaheim for that. And we did. And we sat in that room
Starting point is 00:39:08 And then they just put it on the internet anyway Get to Gato Did you guys watch the Vision Quest trailer? Are you hyped? Are you hype for it? Fantastic. Okay. It's a little more muted than I would hope.
Starting point is 00:39:23 I think you ruined it with that air. More cheers for have you seen Kyle Chandler. But that's okay. We'll build the hype together. Okay. Number one. For me, number two for you, put top of the list for both of us here.
Starting point is 00:39:35 Rings of Power. One of our absolute favorite things to cover together. We love Lord of the Rings. We have some other fun ring stuff that we'll be doing that we'll tell you about more soon. I'm so excited to talk about it, but we can't talk about it yet because it's not finalized. But it is, I'm going to say this. And you can't stop me because you're all the way over there. It's the 25th anniversary of the Little Boothie.
Starting point is 00:40:04 And we plan to celebrate that in earnest. robustly. When I was deciding how to order my list, I was on an airplane, had headphones on, had shuffle on, and this wandering day popped on. I was like, that settles it. Pop, give us a warble pop. Does it impact your hype to know that Poppy is not in this season? Yeah, it's tragic. But Hot Star-on is here.
Starting point is 00:40:39 It's a very Hatsar-on who fucks Central Season, so that's really all we need. The aforementioned Bechna, Jamie Campbell Bauer, is here as Caliborne. Delightful, a lot of yearning tendrils in the trailer. We were at the Comic Concom panel. We got to see the trailer. It looks great. Simon Pegg is voicing the Bell Rock.
Starting point is 00:40:59 I don't know. Confused laughter ensues. Yeah. It's a puzzler, but also very exciting. The Fell Beaster here. It looks great. The trailer looks great. We love the show.
Starting point is 00:41:09 It's been one of our favorite fictional universes to inhabit together. We got matching Apple tattoos. because in part of talking about apples originally on Rings of Power, that was an apple. I thought it was another mosquito bite. They're very similar. Can you discern the difference? Probably not.
Starting point is 00:41:28 Earing over three weeks. This is the one downer. This is a bummer. I know. Maybe we can still, Jeff Bezos, my good friend. My best friend Jeff Bezos. Do you think I convince him to make it a weekly? You're a powerful person with a person.
Starting point is 00:41:44 giant platform making it happen. So the first four episodes drop in week one and then it's two and two in the subsequent weeks. That's a bummer. Yeah. But we will celebrate it and cover it in full. My actual number one is the Orioles making a surprise run to the World Series. Nice. Who says no?
Starting point is 00:42:09 Feel the magic. That was what I sang earlier for Soundcheck. And Adam texted me, don't quit your J-job, which I thought was really. Really rude. I don't know. Really rude. A question. Is Kevin Brown in the room?
Starting point is 00:42:26 Possibly. Oh, he is. Come here. Kevin. Kevin Brown. Voice. Move your lid. Of the Baltimore Orioles.
Starting point is 00:42:40 Hello. Is this on? Is this on? It's up. And babies. How are we doing? Hey. Is this my seat?
Starting point is 00:42:51 Yes, this is the table. When I say, house up, you say R. House of. House of. When I say, let's go, you say O's. Let's go. Let's go. O's.
Starting point is 00:43:03 When I say Mallory's going to throw a first pitch, you say strike. Mallory's going to throw a first pitch. Mallory's going to throw a first pitch. Thank you very much. I'm going to spike the ball. Let's get this out of the way now. Do you think we should have started with Kevin? What do you think?
Starting point is 00:43:16 Hi, guys. You know how to work the room. Let's get this out of the way now. I am going to spike the ball 10 feet in front of me to the left. It's happened every time I've tried the first throw. You give me 10 more bumps. I can do it. The first one's a disaster every time.
Starting point is 00:43:28 It's a lot. I'm sorry to say it's going to happen. Set your expectations according. Kevin, voice of the Baltimore areals, my fellow Syracuse graduate. Yes. Pride of Syracuse, I say. Hang on one second. Hold on.
Starting point is 00:43:39 Hey, did my people not give you the introduction I asked for? Here's the introduction. Hold on. Hold on. I don't think you got it. Can you just read this and then we'll fix it in post, right? Okay, so we'll pretend this is what you said when I came up the first time. This was always the plan to introduce Kevin as follows.
Starting point is 00:44:04 You wrote this about yourself. This is demented. Again, my people who have very nice handwriting wrote this. Is it two-sided? That's my top three. Yeah, don't look at that. Okay. Please welcome to the stage where he has to sit on a little table here
Starting point is 00:44:27 because we decided today that he was going to join. And Elizabeth, who's a legend, was like, I'm testing this table. Don't think all this was in the script. Pretty sure it was not, but go ahead. A genius billionaire playboy philanthropist. Okay. Iron man. He is inevitable.
Starting point is 00:44:47 He is vengeance. We've been able to be. waiting a long time for the next version of that movie. He is the boy who lived. He was born amid salt and smoke. It's too soon to take that back from Reniro. This is how I know you're not current on House of the Dragon. Please use this opportunity to scream Lisa and Al-Gaiyi as most siphersly as possible. Madi. He didn't write Madi. I added that. The voice not only of the Baltimore Orioles,
Starting point is 00:45:25 but of a generation. And yes, he wrote that part too. Kevin Brown. Thank you to join this thing. Thank you so much. Unbelievable. Are you overwhelmed by those compliments? How great is she? Oh, how great is she?
Starting point is 00:45:41 So listen, when Kevin found out that he was not going to be invited to join his actual favorite ringer podcast, the big picture, he said, yeah, I'll show up for a few minutes of House of Art. Sometimes it's good to get the silver medal now. What is your top three for the fall height meter? Give us the three properties you are most excited for this fall. I spent a lot of time on this. Podcasting is now a visual medium, so I can unfold this.
Starting point is 00:46:10 At number 17, no, these are Yankee stats. I don't need those. My number three most anticipated thing of the fall, is not having to hear the phrase or some version of the phrase, the Batman Part 2 is delayed again. Yeah. Enough. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:33 Just put out the movie. My God. Have you seen the Batman recently? Great movie. Excellent. Let's get the second one out. My actual number three, this is a personal one. You get seen The Odyssey?
Starting point is 00:46:46 Nice. I am seeing next week. The Orioles are going to Sacramento, which for some reason is currently hosting a major league team. No disrespect to Sacramento, much disrespect to the people who ran the Oakland A's. Yeah. You're coming in hot.
Starting point is 00:47:06 Joe is an A's fan. Yeah. Yeah. And you know what? You got screwed. Those people, bad people. Sacramento has one of the 25 theaters in the country that show The Odyssey in IMAX 70 millimeter.
Starting point is 00:47:23 So next Friday, 11 a.m. before the Orioles blast the Sacramento Athletics, I'll be seeing The Odyssey and IMAX-70. And I'm just personally very hyped about that. Did you have to get those tickets on the secondhand market? I don't want to answer that question. Did you sell a kid to get those tickets? I also don't want to answer that question. You won't disclose.
Starting point is 00:47:43 No, actually, the tickets have been extended so far in the future that, like a couple of weeks ago, they were announced through September 1st, and I was able to get them easily. Incredible. There you go. We love Sacramento. Let's go to Sacramento. We'll join you there. Yeah?
Starting point is 00:47:58 Okay, great. Fantastic. What's your number two? What is my number two? Give another piece of paper. You're going to dramatically, throw across the room. Oh, hold on.
Starting point is 00:48:06 I want to read something. So when Mallory texted me about joining the show, she said, here are the rules. This was after your text that said, I'm crashing the live show. Yeah, that was it. Sorry.
Starting point is 00:48:23 I kind of did that. Anything that releases from August 16th to November 30th, any type of media, genre picks, something that could be covered on House of R, so like sadly not Slow Horses. Yeah. I'll be selecting Slow Horses.
Starting point is 00:48:37 Yeah, great. I was hoping you one. That show on TV. And the genre, the genre of Slow Horses is... It rules. Hell yeah, brother. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:48:49 The genre is Jackson Lambs, slurping noodles and saying, you can clean a coat. It's the best. It's the best. I know it doesn't belong here, but I just wanted to give it a shout. And my actual number two will be Godzilla minus zero.
Starting point is 00:49:03 Which I know nothing about, but I loved the first one so, so much. And this is like blind type. I don't want to watch a trailer. Oh, the trailer's great. I'm sure it is, but I don't want to know anything. I just want to go. Filmed for IMAX?
Starting point is 00:49:16 Yeah. Yeah. So you can continue your IMAX. Miles does a Godzilla count as horror for you? Monster movie. I think, no, but adjacent. As you know, any monster movie or creature horror, I have an easier time with. But it's more like action. It can be horror. It depends on the movie. What's your number one? I just got to give a shout out to a film that was shot for IMAX, featuring an incredibly charismatic leading man.
Starting point is 00:49:48 Some thought impossible that this would happen, nay, unfilmable. It starts with a desert word in the title, has a colon. Yeah, I'm talking about Oasis colon. Don't look back in anger. The concert experience. We did it. Oasis is back. An incredible bit.
Starting point is 00:50:06 I'll be honest with you. It was a better bit when five minutes ago I asked Elizabeth, why haven't they picked Doom Part 3? And she said, oh, it's through November. So I didn't actually read the first part of your text. Yeah. Well, you know, there's been a lot going on. So I will select, which would have been my actual number two,
Starting point is 00:50:21 Resident Evil. A movie I have, like you said, no relationship to the game. My relationship is to Zach Prager, that beautiful man. I am also not a horror person. I watch some of weapons like this. Sorry, it's a podcast. That's with my hands over my eyes. You're on camera. That's right. Podcast. This video now, baby. Red lights on. I will follow Zach Krieger into the dark. And I have read that Resident Evil was described as a 90-minute Mad Max Fier Road style. zombie movie, to which I again say, hell yeah, brother. Incredible.
Starting point is 00:50:57 Kevin Brown. Yeah, Kevin Brown. Thank you so much. Thank you. I'll leave this table now. Up to you. I'm just going to stick her out for the end of the show. You have a game to call.
Starting point is 00:51:06 Any other honorable mentions before we wrap here that you want to toss out, Joe, that we haven't hit. Anything else you want to make sure people are aware of? Coyote versus Acme? Yellow Jackets. Oh, yeah. Yep. We're going to at least cover it once.
Starting point is 00:51:20 Get in the pit, Maury. We're going to cover yellow jackets. It's coming out of a tough time, but we'll figure it out. You know what? Mention Grand Theft Auto earlier. Marbles Wolverine, GTA. It is a big video game fall. And so that's an exciting thing.
Starting point is 00:51:33 We won't be covering those. But many of our colleagues will. They're excited. And your husband will be playing. He will. I will watch him playing some of those video games for sure. Yeah. What else is coming out?
Starting point is 00:51:42 Street Fighter? You know what? The Vampire List out, One Night Only Live? Wait, wait. Yeah. Street Fighter? That trailer kind of rick. in a way.
Starting point is 00:51:51 Some good needle drops. I had a really good time with it. It looks fun. We've got Lego Star Wars, the Mandalorian, probably better than the Mandalorian and Grogo. Lego One Piece. What else do we have?
Starting point is 00:52:02 Dog Stars? Technically eligible. Clare on the Sun, I want this to be high on my list, but I love that book. And yet it's not on your list, and you're the only one who gets to decide what's on your list.
Starting point is 00:52:14 I know. And here it is my top, my third or fourth top, honorable mention of today's Under Wildwood. Under Wildwood. Godzilla. Can I ask a question?
Starting point is 00:52:23 Yeah, please. Tyca. Yeah. What happened? I can't say that into a microphone. I'll tell you off my under question or just a general question. It's like a general tycoon. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:52:34 I don't know. I would not have been my choice tonally for this adaptation. Got some questions about the tone of the trailer. Wonderful book, though. Never let me go. That book rules. Excellent book. Not my favorite adaptation either.
Starting point is 00:52:46 Maybe Ishiguro is unadaptable. Remains of the day. Remains of the day rules. But since then, talk. All right, any other honorable mentions, anyone in the audience astonished that we left something off? Shout it out. Nothing. We did a perfect job.
Starting point is 00:52:59 No notes. 10 out of 10, no notes. Fantastic. Whale fall. Whale fall. Will fall. All right. I love it.
Starting point is 00:53:08 I'm excited for well fall. Another Gato trailer. Gat to Gatto. I can't wait for Gatto. It looks wonderful. Okay. Well, we have time for any of other. Okay, wait.
Starting point is 00:53:16 Can I make a House of the Dragon pitch to you? Because you're not, what's the last House of the Dragon? season you watched none uh season zero episode zero okay but but i did watch thanks to my good friend maly rubin yeah a night of the civic kingdoms which yeah yeah loved yeah so based on your your love of oasis and your love of these brothers feuding and then reuniting i really feel like you will see that oasis DNA in house of the dragon which is about a a family divided and then potentially reunited question what if music was dragons And tonight's broadcast will be broadcast solely by Jim Palmer.
Starting point is 00:53:54 I am going home to watch House of the Dragon. You have sold me, my friend. Great stuff. We want to say thank you. Not only to all of you, the bad babies, for joining us today. This is an incredible treat. But also to everybody who helped us make this show happen. Thank you, Kevin.
Starting point is 00:54:11 Our wonderful squad. Thank you to Kevin for joining us. Thank you to Carlos, Arjuna, Jomi, the house of our team, as always. Our live events team, Elizabeth and Tessa, they are the absolute best. Legends. Geniuses. Literally nothing would happen without them. We'd be lost.
Starting point is 00:54:31 Jordan. Our Spotify colleague Jordan is here. Thank you to Jordan. And then we have Ted Matt, Jesse, Dylan, Alex, and Brian helping us out today. And we want to give a special thanks, of course, to the Baltimore Royals, my favorite team, the most important team in my life. For inviting us. To host House of Our Night at Oriole Park and Camped in Our Hearts, which is just nuts.
Starting point is 00:54:55 House of Our Night and Faith Night. Same night. That's right. That's right. That's right. Exactly. Exactly. Faith at the 7 for us. You know. Exactly right. Old God's and the new. Can I just get the biggest round of a hometown hero, Mallory Ribbon? Thank you. Oh, ma'am. Buddy, thanks for coming home with me.
Starting point is 00:55:31 I've been waiting for you to introduce me to your parents for years. It's been a decade and a half since I introduced the love of my life to my family, and now I get to do it again. Just want to say a special thank you to Patrick from the Orioles, who had the idea for us to do this and made this happen and spoiled us with a bunch of swag before the game, including these custom jerseys with our names on it, which is sick. That's amazing.
Starting point is 00:55:56 To Sarah who babysat us all day. Sarah, legend. Kevin, Eve, all of our pals. It's the best. This is just a dream. All right, enjoy some food's barbecue. Thank you to the bad babies. You guys are the best.
Starting point is 00:56:07 We can't wait to hang during the game. We'll see you soon. Bye. Two and five Canadians will hear the words you have cancer. That's why every step and dollar raised matters.
