Hello, hello, dear listener, and welcome into IEL speaking part two.
Describe a boring place.
You should say where it is, who you went there with, what you did there,
and explain why you think it's a boring place.
Rory, give us your story.
Well, I don't usually go out of my way to be in places that are dull,
but the one that most clearly comes to mind is the victory.
and Albert Museum in Dundee.
Speaking about exactly where it is,
it's located on the waterfront area of the city.
Next to the riverbank,
I think it was meant to be one of the centerpiece attractions there,
but I'm not sure that's panned out very well, unfortunately,
which is a shame, since it's only about a half-hour walk from my home,
and it had great potential and maybe still does.
If we consider who I went there with,
well, actually, I've been there a few times,
despite the fact that I dislike it, the most recent visit was with one of my friends who came to visit for a holiday.
We wandered around about for a while inside since she's an artist and was really keen to see all of the different things there.
They had an exhibition on for kimonos, which for once was actually quite interesting.
But generally speaking, it's not like that.
When I think about exactly what went on there, aside from wandering around looking at these various exhibits,
It's not a great deal.
Maybe I'm just a phyllisine,
but the stuff they had on display wasn't terribly engaging.
And I was bored out of my mind the whole time
and couldn't wait to get home
and just chill out with some murder documentaries
or something like that.
As far as why I found the whole thing so dull is concerned,
well, like I said, there wasn't much to do.
It was, for the most part,
just a scattered showcase of some random artifacts
held together by some very loose themes.
And the space seemed so wasted.
They have this massive atrium in the entrance and entry area that's just devoid of anything.
And they could have filled that with something, I'm sure.
There was some stuff with a connection to our town, but frankly, we already have a museum that does that much more effectively.
And I'd much rather have gone there.
In fact, we have two.
Hopefully they will improve things in the future, but for the moment I'll be avoiding it like the plague.
I don't really fancy going through that again if I can avoid it.

Thank you, Rory, for your story.
Right, dear listener, so you should choose a boring place.
Boring means dull, not in.
interesting. Okay, so it could be a museum, an art gallery, another museum. Usually it's a museum
that is boring, okay? A university, perhaps, but the easiest way is to talk about a museum.
Do you find museums boring? Some museums are pretty boring, yeah. Oh, yes, something about, like,
with old things, like ruins or just stones or coins, you know, for me, like really boring.
Or me.
Very old things.
Oh, okay, right.
Ancient history.
And you can start off with, I don't usually go to places which are boring, which are dull.
But the one that clearly comes to mind is ta-t-ta-ta museum.
With museums, you use an article, so you say the museum of fine arts.
The ta-tata gallery.
The ta-t-tata-hall.
So just the name of the museum.
It's located.
It is situated.
It's by the river in the city center next to the river bank, next to the river.
Or next to my house.
I'm not sure that is penned out very well.
So that's a very nice phrase of verb.
But that just means it hasn't gone very well, unfortunately.
Hmm.
Like pen out to develop in a particular.
way. Kind of
you can say like, oh, things
didn't pan out well.
Things did not go well.
And it's a shame.
It's boring. It's disappointing that
it's really dull.
I went there with my friends,
with my family.
I've been there a few times.
So present perfect. I've been there
a few times. A few times. Wow.
Even though it's boring. This is how good of a friend I have.
I go with my friends to the boring place.
I wandered around for a while.
So you spent time walking inside the museum.
I wandered around for a while.
I wasn't keen to see everything.
So I'm keen to do something.
Like I want.
I like doing something.
But you can say like I wasn't keen to see everything.
My friend was keen to see everything in the museum.
I wondered about looking at various exhibits.
So in a museum you have items, you have exhibits.
So you have different exhibitions and exhibits.
What is on show?
Or on display.
On display.
So there were some coins on display.
There were clothes on display.
And the stuff wasn't terribly engaging.
So it wasn't interesting.
It wasn't engaging.
I was bored out of my mind.
Yeah, listener.
Okay?
I was bored out of my mind.
I was really bored.
I was bored to death.
I wanted to go home and chill out.
So I couldn't wait to get home.
And just chill out with a sitcom or with, I don't know, a nice film.
There wasn't much to do.
So I had nothing to do.
Everything was boring.
Just look at things and that's it.
There was some random artifacts.
Artifacts like exhibits, things on display.
And the space was wasted.
So they wasted a lot of space in a museum.
It was empty.
It was devoid of anything.
So like empty space.
Nothing to look at.
Devoid of.
Very loosely connected things.
So if they're loosely connected, there's not much of a story to them,
which could be interesting if there's nothing else.
Yeah, kind of like random things in a museum.
No connection.
And then you can finish on a bright note, like hopefully they will improve things in the future.
I don't really fancy going there again.
So I wouldn't like to go there again.
I don't fancy going there.
I dislike going there.
So I don't want to be there again.
Thank you very much.
Even if they pay me, I will not go.
Yeah, Rory, so what are synonyms to boring?
Dull, unengaging, uninteresting.
Yeah.
And a synonym is I was bored out of my mind.
I was bored to death.
Yeah, another one actually is tedious.
That is true.
Lovely deal, listener.
Please avoid boring places, okay?
talk about a museum.
Avoid them like the plague.
Oh, that's an idiom.
Have you never heard that idiom before?
Yeah, I have actually, yeah.
Because plague is this horrible disease.
I avoid it like the plague.
Avoid something completely.
So, kind of, I'm not a fan of such parties.
I avoid them like the plague.
The plague.
Plague, yeah, is a horrible disease.
from the past.
Well, we don't have it.
Oh, plague is C2?
Wow.
Is it?
Oh, my God.
Okay.
Look at me.
And avoid it like the plague will be an idiom with the word plague.
So that's probably C2 as well.
Yeah, deal with it.
So avoid boring places like the plague.
But listen to our podcast.
Okay.
In the next episode, we'll talk about boredom in general, that being bored.
See you then.
Bye.
