Starting point is 00:00:02 Hello, hello, dear listener and welcome into ILD Speaking Part 2. Describe a natural talent, sports, music, you want to improve. You should say what it is when you discovered it, how you want to improve it, and explain how you feel about it. Rory, give us your story. Rory's story. Well, I don't think I'm gifted at anything in particular, to be honest. But if I have to talk about one thing, it might be my general flexibility, I suppose. By that, I mean being able to move the joints of my body in various ways.
Starting point is 00:00:51 I wouldn't say I was hyper-mobile or something like that, but generally speaking, I'm more flexible than my friends. It became apparent when I started doing yoga, and I was more easily able to get into poses than a lot of other people and hold them for longer. Some of my pals are quite stiff by comparison and struggle to move. move in different ways. But for me, it's not such a problem. It's been the case for at least two years now, or at least I've been conscious of it since then. I'm sure it's been true for longer than that.
Starting point is 00:01:20 I just wasn't aware of it because, well, I hadn't started doing yoga at that point. Of course, it's certainly not the case with all of my joints, and I'd really like to get better at anything involving my lower extremities, to be honest. So anything connected to my legs, like my knees and my hips. I still have issues in those areas, probably because I haven't practiced enough, so I suppose I would do more around those specific areas. And there are a load of classes involving things like hip flexors and muscles for abduction and abduction. So it's not like the opportunities don't exist. While it would obviously be great to become better at it, if it doesn't come to pass then, I doubt I'll be too cut up about it. An important part to developing in yoga is excessive.
Starting point is 00:02:09 where your own body's limits are, and I have so many other things going on in my life that it's not particularly necessary. Plus, being a bit less flexible hasn't stopped me from having an amazing life so far, so I doubt it will in the future as well. And what do your friends think about it? We haven't really spoken about it that much, to be honest. It's not something that comes up in conversation. Starting point is 00:02:51 click the link in the description below. See you soon. Ready listener, describe a natural talent. So what is a natural talent, Lori? Something that you are good at. I honestly actually don't think natural talents exist. You might just have a predisposition towards something. And then you become talented at it through practice, not through something that's just randomly being given to you. Yeah, do you listener. So a natural talent is an innate ability, like inborn ability to do something.
Starting point is 00:03:24 And this ability helps you to achieve a high level of skill. For example, usually we talk about sports or music or drawing, painting, something, I don't know, you do something with your hands, photography, you know, something genius. a natural ability to do something like dancing, for example. Definitely not getting better at that anytime soon. Yeah, and here kind of you choose something that you want to improve. So for example, now you are bad at it, but you want to improve it.
Starting point is 00:03:57 For example, I dance tango. I've been dancing for 10 years or more, and I want to improve this talent. I'm not sure if it's a talent or no, but I do hear music and I dance quite well. Well, I'm not professionally, but, you know, and I want to approve this talent. Rory told us about his general flexibility. Ooh. Yes, but it doesn't have to be something that you're bad at necessarily. It could just be something you're good at and you would like to improve even further.
Starting point is 00:04:32 So I picked that, but it's not a very great talent, to be honest with you. It's just being able to move around reasonably flexibly. You can start off with I don't think I'm gifted at any. anything in particular, to be honest. So, like, I'm gifted, I'm talented at anything in particular. But if I have to talk about one thing... Then I will talk about this. I might...
Starting point is 00:04:57 It might be my general flexibility or it might be my dancing skills. Drawing ability or my dancing skills. Drawing ability. Yeah, what about languages? If I want to improve my language skills, right? There could be that as well. photography skills. And general flexibility means being able to move the joints of my body. Joints are these things inside your body. You don't have to talk about that though. You could talk about anything and then explain
Starting point is 00:05:26 further. So it could be, I don't think I'm gifted to anything in particular to be honest, but if I have to talk about one thing, that could be used to talk about anything that you can call up with. And then by that I mean, it's just used to explain further. became apparent when I was doing something. So kind of I found out that I do want to improve it when to do too too. So I want to improve my dancing skills. It became apparent when I started dancing tango or when I painted a picture. But anything can become apparent or become obvious.
Starting point is 00:06:06 Surely apparent has got to be a high level word. You can also say that I'm, I'm trying to be a high level word. with something. It was difficult for me. And I've known this for some time. I've been conscious of this. And you could talk about the scale of the problem by comparing to others. By comparison, or it's not such a problem, or it is a problem. How long has it been a problem? It's been the case for talking about the time. I'd like to get better at something. So I'd like to get better at dancing, painting, learning languages. I still have issues with something.
Starting point is 00:06:48 Or I still have issues in these areas. I haven't practiced enough or I haven't studied. I haven't learned something. And I should have more classes. I should read more, practice more. And if we talk about a talent, a skill, so that's usually about practicing it, yeah? Like doing it, developing it, improving.
Starting point is 00:07:16 And an important thing is to accept your body's limits. And kind of your limitations, so if you can't do it, you can't do it, it's okay. If you can't become another dali or if you can't become another, I don't know, Usain Bolt, so that's okay. You can do something else. Yeah. And it's fine. Rory, what helped you to organize this answer? Oh, just the usual things.
Starting point is 00:07:44 First of all, saying about how I'm not gifted it anything in particular. So not gifted, not talented. And then, but if I have to talk about one thing, oh, conditional. Then I explained what that was. And I moved into how I discovered it or when. It became apparent when. And how I want to improve it. well again, I talked about there are, I just haven't practiced enough, so I still have issues,
Starting point is 00:08:15 and I can improve it by, or I haven't practiced enough, and I can do that by taking more classes, and then talking about the feelings about it, it would be great to be better at this, but if it doesn't happen, if it doesn't come to pass, then it's okay. So here, just moving from one part to the next, I paraphrased a bit more this time, and just to give a bit more variety. But there wasn't really anything very different to what we do usually. Follow the prompt, add in details and move to the next thing. Yay!
Starting point is 00:08:48 Radio listeners, if I were you, I'd pick sport or learning languages or dancing. I think these are the easiest skills, like talents. Or you can steal Rory's story. So it's always a good idea to just repeat what Rory has told us. about his yoga, about his general flexibility. So that's absolutely fine. The talk has great vocabulary about joints and the legs and hips and knees. So yeah, you can just learn Rory's story and off you go.
Starting point is 00:09:23 But even if you don't, there are still things that can be used to talk about pretty much anything. Thank you very much for listening. We'll see you next time. Do we say bye-bye? Yeah. Bye-bye. natural talent, sports, music, you want to improve. You should say what it is when you discovered it, how you want to improve it, and explain how you feel about it. Well, I don't think I'm
Starting point is 00:09:56 gifted at anything in particular, to be honest. But if I have to talk about one thing, it might be my general flexibility, I suppose. By that, I mean being able to move the joints of my body in various ways. I wouldn't say I was hyper-mobile or something like that, but generally speaking, I'm more flexible than my friends. It became apparent when I started doing yoga, and I was more easily able to get into poses than a lot of other people and hold them for longer. Some of my pals are quite stiff by comparison and struggle to move in different ways, but for me it's not such a problem. It's been the case for at least two years now, or at least I've been conscious of it since then. I'm sure it's been true for longer than that. I just wasn't aware of it because, well, I hadn't started doing
Starting point is 00:10:43 yoga at that point. Of course, it's certainly not the case with all of my joints, and I'd really like to get better at anything involving my lower extremities, to be honest. So anything connected to my legs, like my knees and my hips, I still have issues in those areas, probably because I haven't practiced enough, so I suppose I would do more around those specific areas. and there are a load of classes involving things like hip flexors and muscles for abduction and abduction. So it's not like the opportunities don't exist. Well, it would obviously be great to become better at it. If it doesn't come to pass, then I doubt I'll be too cut up about it.
Starting point is 00:11:24 An important part to developing in yoga is accepting where your own body's limits are. And I have so many other things going on in my life that it's not particularly necessary. Plus, being a bit less flexible hasn't stopped me from having an amazing life so far, so I doubt it will in the future as well. And what do your friends think about it? We haven't really spoken about it that much, to be honest. It's not something that comes up in conversation.
