Hello, hello, dear listener and welcome into IEL speaking part two.
Describe a time when you worked in a group.
You should say what you did, who you worked with, what problems you faced,
and explain why you worked in a group.
Rory, give us your story.
Rory's story.
Well, generally I work by myself, but one time,
that does come to mind is when I was at this training session for teachers about a year ago.
We had weekly sessions on Fridays, and this one was particularly odd since it focused on creating
tasks to get students to work together. Speaking about this specific activity, we had to try and get
a stone to travel the longest distance. In order to achieve that, most of the teams were
dropping their rocks from different heights, which made sense since the building we were in was
very tall. However, I had the idea to try throwing it from one person to another in a kind of
leapfrog manner, so we could theoretically just keep going for as long as we liked. I think we actually
went from one side of the school grounds to the other, so I think we were the clear winners. That must
have been over, oh, I don't know, at least a couple of hundred metres, probably. If we consider
who I worked with, it was just a group of teachers, though it was so long ago, the fine details of
who they are where escapes me now.
doubtless they'll remind me when we meet up in a few weeks. I do remember we had a lot of fun
with the task though and obviously we were happy about winning too, even though it wasn't exactly
high-stakes stuff. It was still nice to be the winners in a competition. When I think about the
problems we had, well, there weren't many. It's a pretty easy idea to explain, but I think we had
some problems coordinating our movements at first and there were times we dropped the ball,
or at least or the stone in this case. But we made
at work after about five minutes. So it wasn't exactly insurmountable in terms of the scale of the
problem. There might have been a time like it, but I don't remember really. Or there might
be the time limit, but I don't really remember. As far as why we work together is concerned,
it's, well, it was pretty much compulsory in order for the session to work. Normally, I'd have a
problem with that, since I don't like being forced to do anything, but being made to do something
by necessity is hardly the same thing. And it was all in good fun. Hopefully we'll get a chance to do
something similar.

See you soon.
So, dear listener, you worked in a group.
At work, obviously, or at university, at school, so you did something with other people.
It could be a small group, maybe three people, four people.
Well, two people is a pair, but kind of, yeah, even if you did something with another person,
there were two of you, say that there were three of you.
So three, four.
Or maybe like a large group, like 20 people and you did something.
You could be like playing a sports game or something or a sports team.
But yeah, here kind of you were.
worked in a group.
Well, you work in a team and you play football.
You have to coordinate yourself.
So I'd choose something like from studies, from work.
You worked on a project.
You worked in a group when you organized the party, for example.
Yeah, like my birthday party.
So we worked in a team in a group to organize a holiday for my parents, my birthday.
We chose a present for my teacher.
So, yeah, could be studies as well.
we studied together, we prepared for the test together.
You can start off with, I usually work by myself,
so I work alone on my own by myself,
but one time that comes to mind is when I worked with teachers,
when I worked with my friends, my colleagues, my, I don't know,
random people, strangers.
and you can intensify the meaning,
like one time that does come to mind.
Like one time that comes to mind, neutral,
one time that does come to mind.
You know, like, I do remember it.
Like vividly, yeah, it does come to mind.
If you work in a group, you work together,
which is a good collocation.
We worked together.
We studied together.
We did a project together.
Or we organized a party.
for my friends together.
We focused on doing something.
So we focused on organizing a party.
We focused on doing the tasks, writing an essay,
making a project.
Then Rory told us about specific activities.
Like as for specific activities, like what did you do?
As for the activities, we did, da, da, da.
So you planned, you wrote,
You organized things.
You researched.
You read books.
You wrote things together.
So what did you do?
Yeah, listen, maybe you cooked something, right?
In a group of people.
There were three of you and you were cooking.
I don't know, something.
But you can talk about what you had to do,
which is like when something is mandatory.
It's not an option.
You have to do it.
Or in the past, had to do it.
I had to research.
I had to run.
I had to write to essays.
I had to plan.
I had to find a house for the party.
I worked with my friends.
I worked with my colleagues, with my teachers.
An important collocation.
Work with people together.
You work with somebody on something.
Yeah, like on a project, for example.
If you don't remember certain things, you can say,
The fine details escape me now.
It's Rory's favorite phrase.
So he seems not to remember a lot of things, especially his age.
Be nice to me, it's my birthday.
The fine details escape me now.
Yeah, it's Rory's birthday.
Well, it's my birthday week, I suppose.
Yeah, it's your birthday week, right?
So, happy birthday, darling.
Yes, happy birthday.
Now sit back as we criticize you for being forgetful and old.
No, no.
So the fine details escape me now.
Like I don't remember everything.
But I do remember that we had a lot of fun.
And again, we intensify the meaning.
I do remember.
I really remember.
I vividly remember.
We had a lot of fun with our tasks.
We were happy about doing something.
So Rory told us about a competition.
So he did something with his colleagues.
during some training, at work.
So, like, we were happy about winning.
He worked in a team with a group of teachers.
So we were happy about completing all the tasks.
We were happy about doing this project together.
And problems.
You can say, well, I don't remember that we had any problems.
It was a pretty easy task to do.
Or we had some problems with planning, with deadlines, with how much work we had to do.
So some people were too lazy.
Not kind of the usual thing.
You know, like if you work in a group, some people don't want to do anything.
They are late.
Or deadlines, right?
So you are not ready.
Like you don't do stuff.
There's too much to do.
Or there was too much to do.
But if you don't do what you're supposed to do,
then you might drop the ball, which is an idiom, meaning you don't do what you're supposed to do.
So this work working together was compulsory.
It was obligatory.
We must do it.
Right, we had to do it because it was part of the training.
So we had to work together in order to do something else.
Like we had to work together to complete a project.
So we had to work together in order to complete a project.
It was necessary for us to work together because it was part of the training, but it was fun.
It was fun to do it.
It was fun working together.
Or it was challenging.
It was difficult.
It was challenging.
I didn't like it.
You can say, yeah, it was just, I didn't enjoy it much because there were too many people.
Some people were lazy.
Or it was a dream team.
Yeah.
It was a dream team.
I had the time of my life, I enjoyed it a lot.
And if you had any problems, they weren't insurmountable, meaning you could overcome them.
Insurmountable.
About problems or difficulties, like they can't be dealt with successfully.
So unsurmountable difficulties.
And you can say that, well, we didn't have any unsurmountable difficulties.
So we did it well.
We succeeded.
It was a dream team.
Because we were being made to do something.
If you're made to do something, then you're forced to do it.
But even though we were forced to do it, it was all in good fun, which means we had a nice time.
Right, dear listener, choose your topic.
Okay, teamwork.
You worked in a group in a team, dream team.
Yeah, you can just lie that you worked with Rory.
Why would anyone lie about that?
Like, and Maria, you know, like, well, once I worked with Rory and,
Maria and we were preparing for the IOT's test.
Thank you very much for listening.
We'll get back to you in our next episode.
Bye.
Bye.
Okay.

I want to help my kids, and I want to give back to the community.
Then it's the vacation of a lifetime.
I wonder if my out of office has a forever setting.
