Starting point is 00:00:01 Hello, lovely. I'm Maria. And I am professional book hoarder, Rory Fergus Duncan. And we are the host of the AILT Speaking for Success podcast. The podcast dreams to help you improve your speaking skills, as well as your listening skills along the way. We've started this podcast to give you super grammar and fabulous vocabulary for your high aisle school. Your band nine score.
Starting point is 00:00:26 Oh, Rory, now you are a book holder. You know that I'm a book hoarder. That's a fact because I'm constantly reading. I've got three books to read now. Wow. So, de listener, a hoarder is a person who collects large amounts of something and they keep it for themselves, very often in a secret place. So, for example, if I collect a lot of bags, you know, I have like hundreds of different bags
Starting point is 00:00:57 in my flats, they're all over the place or I keep them in a secret place. so I'm a bag, hoarder. Rory has a lot of books. So he collects all sorts of books. So he hordes books. He collects books in large amounts. Yeah. Usually it's not like a positive word.
Starting point is 00:01:18 Because like hoarding could be, you know, like a mental condition. It could be, yeah. Yeah. So today Rory is a book hoarder. Oh, Rory, and have you checked our new website? I have indeed. Vanya has made a very good job of it, hasn't he? Yay, we have a new website. Check it out.
Starting point is 00:01:41 Successfuls.com. That's celebrate by talking about websites. Let's talk about websites. What's your favorite website? Probably YouTube, I'd say. I love listening to the different video essays and documentaries and audiobooks on there. it always keeps me entertained. What kinds of websites do you often visit?
Starting point is 00:02:09 Apart from YouTube, I have a few of my favorites bookmarks, so I can see them every morning. I check the news on the BBC's news site and the weather for the day as well. So news sites, and I log on to Duolingo to practice different languages. So I don't know what kind of website that would be, like a language practice website.
Starting point is 00:02:30 And then there are a couple of market research sites that I complete surveys on just at the start of my day when I'm not doing much. Have the websites you often visit changed over the years? Oh, absolutely. The BBC changes its layout all the time, and duolingo is much more aggressive with its marketing than it used to be. I also used to look at lots of different social media sites, but nowadays it's just Instagram and that's about it. What kinds of websites are popular in your country?
Starting point is 00:03:01 Good question. I suppose the ones I mentioned, like anything connected to social media and the news. Lots of people go on Wikipedia and run Google searches to check things. So anything like online encyclopedias and search engines will get a lot of traffic, along with AI sites as well. I think everyone is on them these days for various reasons. As you know, we now release all of our premium content for free, and it's available for.
Starting point is 00:03:35 one month. After one month, it goes into our super secret archive. To sign up for the archive, click the link in the description below. See you soon. Right, you listen to websites. You know, I asked Rory, like, what's your favorite website? What did he say? Did you say Success With IELTS? I was tempted, but like... Like, what's your problem, Rory? Seriously, like, seriously, what's your problem? Successwithis.com. We've done our advertising. Yeah, but come on. So it's not your favorite website.
Starting point is 00:04:12 No, it's not. It's not your favorite. Dear listener, do you see, we tell you the truth. You know, on this podcast, podcast, become American. On this podcast, right, you listen. So we tell you the truth. And Rory has just admitted. That?
Starting point is 00:04:36 Our website is not my favorites. It's not my favorite. I'm sorry. I like YouTube. YouTube is YouTube a website? But you can listen to our episodes on YouTube, so it's not that bad. Is YouTube even a website? Yes, absolutely.
Starting point is 00:04:53 It's a website, a video hosting platform. You have to type in a web address to go there. Yes, it is a website, dear listener. It's the second most visited website in the world. What's the most way of visited one? Is it Google? Oh, you know, like I've just Googled it. And you just asked Google what the most popular website is.
Starting point is 00:05:16 Yes, Google. Google, yeah, in May, 2006, Google had the largest number of visits. Yeah, it's like over 100 billion visits. Then YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, chatGPt.com. Reddit, Wikipedia, and then P-hm... Um... Yeah, WhatsApp, TikTok, Amazon, ex-hamster.com.
Starting point is 00:05:49 It's also a f***, right? Yeah, so weather.com is actually like at the bottom of the list. But yeah, the listener. So, Google, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, chat, GPD, Reddit, and Wikipedia. the top websites. And you can talk about it. Now you know the trends. All right.
Starting point is 00:06:09 And you can say like, yeah, I love listening to different videos. I love listening to IELD Speaking for Success podcast on YouTube. Yeah, listen to something on YouTube. I listen to documentaries,
Starting point is 00:06:22 audiobooks. Yeah, keeps me entertained. Keeps me amused. Keeps me happy. So it gives me fun. So you visit websites, you go to websites, you use different websites, and I check the news on BBC website.
Starting point is 00:06:44 Oh, how English is this, Rory, using BBC. Well, that's what it's there for. I check up the weather, I check the weather forecast. Also, Rory told us about duolingo. It's a website for learning language. also they have an application so Deolingo if you want to you know get in touch
Starting point is 00:07:06 just go ahead we can do something together and yeah do listen like what websites do you use you know maybe some local ones but you can name the website and say yeah I check the weather I check the news
Starting point is 00:07:21 I listen to this I watch this I read I learn but whatever you do with them it might keep you entertained So if something, if you find something fun, it keeps you entertained. About the past, you can say, I used to use blah, blah, blah. These days, I normally visit Google or I usually use Google.
Starting point is 00:07:43 I used to use Facebook, but now I'm on Instagram. I used to use blah, blah, but now TikTok. I look at different social media sites. I use different social media. And again, like on TikTok, Instagram. Instagram, Facebook, maybe your local websites. And which websites are popular in your country? So I've just told you, right?
Starting point is 00:08:09 Google, they're popular all over the world. Yeah, like Google, Wikipedia, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram. Chat GPT, Reddit. And actually, it's chat GPT, not some other AI. Amazon, perhaps. Or some local websites. But you'll need to explain what. you can do on them. For example, on YouTube, you can listen or watch video essays, documentaries
Starting point is 00:08:36 and audiobooks. But when you go onto a site and you need a password, you have to log on. Google is a search engine. Yeah, it is a website, but to be more specific, it's an online search engine. You search for things on Google. And you can say like, oh, I go on Wikipedia. Yeah, or I go to Wikipedia. Both of them are okay. On a website, yeah. Yeah, I read it on Wikipedia. I go to Wikipedia.
Starting point is 00:09:09 But you run a search, or you run a Google search. I use different AI websites. Proplexity, chat GPT. Now, what else? Gemini. Oh, God, there's about three billion of them these days. Claude. Yeah, kind of, like again.
Starting point is 00:09:26 But you see, like according to Semrush.com, Chat GPT is the most popular. I think that's just because we hear about it on the news all the time. Do you have a favorite AI website? Proplexity. Yeah, I usually use proplexity. I like Claude. When Claude decides to work.
Starting point is 00:09:45 All right, okay. Yeah, I'm checking some other website, and it's also Google. YouTube, ChatGPT, Wikipedia, Amazon, Baidu. That's Chinese, right? Netflix? Baidu. Yeah, yeah. I think, oh, Baidu is like to learn Chinese or Baidu Maps.
Starting point is 00:10:07 There we go. Yeah. Yeah, I couldn't download them for some reason. But yeah, Google, like almost 90 billion visits every month. Oh, gosh. And 90 billion visits, dear listener, can you imagine? Every month, it's insane. How many people are there in the world?
Starting point is 00:10:29 How many searches are they running? Okay, what population, Google? It's like 7 billion people. 7 billion? 7? 7. Like, every month Google gets
Starting point is 00:10:44 almost 80, 85 billion visits. Oh, wow, okay. So it's 8. 8 billion. I thought it was 7 billion. It's a lot of people anyway. But whatever you do with your website, Remember to check out our one.

Cookies are a kind of program, which helps track activity on your computer and informs choices by algorithms. Why they are called cookies? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:11:28 but that's what they are called. Cookies are a kind of biscuit in America, but in the UK, what we call cookies are called biscuits. So if we talk about British people, oh, their cookies are biscuits. But these are not the things we eat. These are the things that our computer programs is the joke.
