Starting point is 00:00:00 Welcome to IHIP News. It's January 6. And if we remember four years ago, how the biggest titty baby party the world has ever seen, the sorest losers of all sore losers, got together and stormed the Capitol. And a lot of people took a shit in the Capitol. And these are alleged patriots. And they did this all for Donald Trump. And I think it's really telling that how the Democrats are handling this. There is a peaceful transfer of power. Kamala Harris on Friday was swearing in all of the newly elected senators,
Starting point is 00:00:48 congresspeople, a total class act. And when I think back on after Biden won and after he took control, he flipped Georgia, he flipped Arizona. And Biden has been a consequential president. But I, in Monday morning quarterbacking, I wish that the minute he got in office, he would have fired every single person that Trump appointed. I'm talking about that postmaster. I'm talking about Christopher Wray. I wish that he would have appointed somebody at DOJ that was hardcore about defending democracy. The fact that the person at the top that planned this whole thing has not been held accountable and has been reelected because the right wing news and the appeasement of all of our elected officials to let this go on has led us to this moment is just so depressing. It's so depressing. And in my mind, the biggest failure of the Biden administration
Starting point is 00:01:52 was Merrick Garland not filing charges of insurrection against Donald Trump and holding him responsible for the Capitol attack, because we all know that he was in on it. He sat there for hours and watched it. Why he waited for the January 6th committee, I will never know. But that failure allowed him to be reelected. And the undermining of the democratic institutions because of Donald Trump and because of the insurrection and what was created by Donald Trump. Then we go up to the Supreme Court where they've given him just unfettered immunity.
Starting point is 00:02:30 And over the weekend, I saw someone say, well, I'm just afraid Donald Trump's going to abuse his power. Since when has Donald Trump ever not abused his power? That's baked into the cake. So it is just, it's very disconcerting. The police officers that died, the damage that was done, moving forward past the actual people breaking windows at the Capitol, breaking into the Capitol, taking shits at the Capitol, wanting to hang Mike Pence, all of those things, but the undermining of people's view in our election and democracy and the legal system, it all points back to that day.
Starting point is 00:03:07 And I just, I really wish that from Merrick Garland all the way over to the Biden administration, there would have been a sweep and the Supreme Court should have been addressed. And the way Mitch McConnell took Obama's pick and they put in an accused sexual predator, Brett Kavanaugh, in and look at what the Supreme Court did. Then they voted to give Donald Trump immunity. To me, it is a failure. You can't on the one hand say we have to protect democracy. We have to protect democracy. This man is a direct threat to democracy. And on the other hand, oh, yeah, sure, we'll keep his FBI guy in charge who declined to press charges on Matt Gaetz, by the way, you know, to investigate that further. We'll keep this crooked postmaster in here. We'll not do anything. We'll have no ethics,
Starting point is 00:03:59 no accountability, no investigation into Brett Kavanaugh. We won't reconcile what happened with Barack Obama's pick. They didn't do any of those things. So I have a problem as a voter that you say democracy, democracy is so important. I feel like a lot of the Trump supporters don't really understand different forms of government. Right. They don't know what fascism is. They don't know what authoritarianism is. They don't know what totalitarianism is. They don't really know what democracy is because they've taken it for granted. They just want to win and they want some guy out there that seems like he's some badass.
Starting point is 00:04:40 And all he does is he just feigns being a badass. I mean, he's such an incredible, sore loser. But speaking of gracious losers, here is Hakeem Jeffries last Friday. Two months ago, the American people elected Donald Trump as the 47th president of the United States of America. Thank you for that very generous applause. It's okay. There are no election deniers on our side of the aisle. You see?
Starting point is 00:05:25 One. You know, it just, it's so maddening because I think as human beings, we all want things that are fair. Right. And you see Donald Trump lose miserably in 2020 and he pitches the biggest fit. He's got Mike Lindell, the MyPillow guy, and the Kraken lawyer, and Rudy Giuliani, and all of this crazy shit going on. And then he gets his whole base riled up, all of these right-wing, basically terrorists, extremists that storm the Capitol. And they do all this crazy shit. And all of those people have been sold lies by a parasitic form of governing.
Starting point is 00:06:12 And Donald Trump offers parasitic governing where they lie to the masses and exploit basically anybody who's not a multimillionaire for money and they lie and feed them all this red meat that caters to their worst impulses as human beings. And he fed it and he's cultured it and he's rocked it and he's cuddled it and he's embraced it. And so they have this false notion of feeling protected by him. And it's just so maddening to watch everybody do the right thing, except for him and his supporters. And at the end of the day, democratic policies, whether they like it or not, help them, right? They help the economy.
Starting point is 00:07:00 Mark my words, in four years, if not sooner, there will be a massive recession because there always is. He is going to offer ridiculous tax cuts. I just read recently that Jeff Bezos saved $1 billion in taxes by moving to Florida. He pays a lower income tax percentage than a public school teacher. Meanwhile, a cartoonist for the Washington Post did a cartoon where she depicted an image of everybody bending the knee to Donald Trump. Jeff Bezos killed that cartoon. And so you have Tim Cook, Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, all giving $1 million to Donald Trump's transition. And it's so gross. It's so disgusting that we all use these products daily. And they know that this man is a convicted felon. They know. They're smart enough to know how corrupt he is. But instead of having principle, instead of having
Starting point is 00:08:06 conviction, they say, fuck it. If everybody else can use this guy as a useful idiot to enrich themselves, we're going to do it too. So now this parasitic form of government has turned into an oligarchy and it's going to get so much worse for everybody in this country. Well, it's going to get better for the billionaires involved in the oligarchy. But I just wanted to touch back on something we were talking about January 6th. Mitch McConnell, who stood on the floor of the Senate and had those words for Donald Trump, and then he did not vote to impeach him. Donald Trump is the worst of the worst. But the Republican Party enablers, Moses Mike on down, Mitch McConnell on down, they are every bit as self-interest. We saw white women do it. We saw women do it. We've seen the middle class do it. We've seen the working class do it. So we are now on a stage of life. It's kind of the fuck around and find out. We're getting ready to see what
Starting point is 00:09:14 Donald Trump's policies do. Remember, he was raging because he couldn't increase the debt ceiling. And he wants to go in and create all of this debt because he wants to give tax cuts to the billionaires. So those are the people that are going to benefit. And it's just, it's gross. And I look at Hakeem Jeffries and I say, that's classy. I look at Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump's inauguration, that's classy. And I think we all know who Donald Trump is. Jen, this morning I was reading up on the story of Elon Musk endorsing Germany's extreme right party, AFD. That came up on my news app. This does seem on brand for Elon. A left-leaning news source, The Wrap, reveals the editor of the German newspaper that featured
Starting point is 00:09:56 Musk's op-ed, where he announced his support for the far right party actually resigned in protest. Listener, before we go any further, and in case you want to follow along at home, I want you all to know that Pumps and I are using our favorite news app. It's called Ground News. This allows us to see all angles of this story through the lenses of 336 news sources, to be exact, all of which I can access right here in one place by using Ground News. I can see that from the left, the Rolling Stone labels the German political party as far right and must article a quote, controversial opinion piece, while right leaning the build
Starting point is 00:10:38 frames must endorsement for the AFD as a celebration. Obviously, our sponsor today, Ground News is basically the Spotify of news. And that's why Pumps and I love it so much, because they give you access to all of the world's news on one platform with context on each source, like their political lean, how subjective their reporting is, and even where they get their funding, which is so crucial for stories like this one on Elon Musk. So listener, join us by going to groundnews.com forward slash I-H-I-P to get 40% off the Ground News Vantage plan that we use every day. They're subscriber funded and female founded.
Starting point is 00:11:18 By subscribing, you're not only getting a tool that we all need today, you're also supporting our work. That's ground, G-R-O-U-N-D, news.com forward slash I-H-I-P. The link is below in the show notes. I just want to go back to what you said about Mitch McConnell and the Republican enablers. Yes, they are abhorrent. They're almost worse than Donald Trump. But I never, ever, ever think those people are going to do the right thing because they never do. And that's why as a voter that lives in a red state, that lives in a MAGA hellscape,
Starting point is 00:11:56 where we have a governor right now that is trying to tell people what their choices are when they graduate from high school. Not that you can pick what you want to do, but you either have to go in the military, a vo-tech school, or a college, which is full-blown government control. But I digress. I'm upset that when Biden won that mandate and flipped historically red states, that he didn't come in and slash and burn every bit of Trump, all of his appointees, everything he did to the ground. To have any expectation that Mitch McConnell is going to do the right thing is a fool's
Starting point is 00:12:35 errand to the highest order. You think Moses Mike is going to do the right thing? You think any of these sycophants are going to do the right thing? No. The Democrats historically do the right thing? No. The Democrats historically do the right thing. As you see what's going to happen today, they're going to certify the election. So that's why when the history books look back on this and we see that the Democrats know that the Republicans don't do the right thing, the minute they got into power, we worry so much about, oh my gosh, are we going to upset
Starting point is 00:13:07 the right wing? There's all this deference, the silent deference that's given to patriarchal systems. And this democratic desire to have those people like us is so weird because they're never going to like us. And listen to me, all of you that live in the Beltway, we live in a red state. They cannot stand liberals. They cannot. They've been indoctrinated from a very young age in their megachurches to think that liberals are demons, Satan. That's why they call us the demon crap party and all of this crazy, crazy, crazy magical thinking, Iron Age bullshit.
Starting point is 00:13:47 So you have to, once you get power, you have to wield it because that's what the Republicans do. That's what Mitch McConnell did with the Senate picks. That's what Donald Trump, when they get in, it's going to be brutal to watch this, but that's what they're going to do. They're not going to give a shit if any centrists or anybody on the left like them. They don't care if they piss anybody off. They won and they're going to govern accordingly. And Democrats have got to learn that lesson because it's the lack of fangs that causes the voter apathy that led to the second coming of Donald Trump. I like that, the lack of thanks, because you're exactly right. The Democrats, we've always said this, they play integrity politics.
Starting point is 00:14:30 I'm the good guy politics. They're held to an exorbitantly high standard. And the Republicans come in, shit all over everybody, don't give a shit what anybody thinks, and they win. So what do you, I mean, it's as clear as the nose on my face. We have to get into fuck you politics and stop with trying to be the good guy that everybody likes. Yes. And I think that if the Democrats win in the midterms, it has got to be a full on assault. I
Starting point is 00:14:58 mean, one thing Mitch McConnell said when Barack Obama won is it will be our job to make sure he doesn't get a second term. And that's the way they governed. And he, so any expectation that any of these crusty old white fuckers are ever going to do the right thing, it will never, ever, ever happen. So the Democrats have got to go all chips in on the midterm elections. And whether it's Gavin Newsom or Gretchen Whitmer or whomever, it needs to be a year round campaign with rallies in red states, take a populist economic message to the people that are going to get sucked on, the people that the Republicans are going to suck on. Jeff Bezos killing that cartoon, getting a billion dollar tax reprieve by moving to Kitten Hills State, Florida. And it's just and then his workers have to fight to unionize for wages.
Starting point is 00:16:00 This is a parasitic party. Donald Trump is a parasite. Look at all the riffraffs and the knickknacks at the Roach Motel, Mar-a-Lago. And now the Roach Motel is going to be the White House. And the majority of you people that voted for him, you're going to get sucked on the most. You're going to pay more taxes. The Jeff Bezos and the weird Elon Musk of the world are going to get more and more and more enriched. And it's really terrifying. It's terrifying. And it's just, it's heartbreaking to look at it and watch it. Okay, guys, we'll see you later.
