Today, I would like to discuss the impact of bro podcasting on not only the election, but just American culture in general. And Joe Rogan has this massive audience and primarily male and evidently pretty impactful on his audience. And he hasn't always been a Trumper, actually quite far from it.
Starting point is 00:01:42 I want to play this clip for you and our listener of some things that Joe Rogan has said in the past. I really believe if Michelle Obama runs, she might win. She's good. She's great. She's the wife of the best president that we have had in our lifetime. I've never voted right wing in my life. I consider universal basic income a really good idea. I want free college education. Take it easy. Hello, Bernie. How are you, Joe? Wonderful. Pleasure to meet you. Nice to meet you. I like Tulsi and I like Bernie. That's it. Oh, yeah?
Starting point is 00:02:10 Everybody else can eat shit. Look at you, fucking progressive. Yeah. I think I'll probably vote for Bernie. I think he's looking out for the interest of the working people, and I think he wants people to have a better life and do better. And I'm all for that. And if that means I have to pay more in tax, like people think, oh, you're a socialist. I've heard people say that. Oh, you're a fucking socialist you're a socialist bro like first of all he's not even a socialist
Starting point is 00:02:28 he's a democratic socialist it's a different thing i would like to spend more in taxes if they could fix inner-city communities and and take these poor neighborhoods and we should spend a lot spend more you republican 87 percent of scientists said that human activity is driving global warming i'm very pro-choice. I'm very women's rights, civil rights, gay rights, trans rights. I'm even universal health care. Obviously, this protected status is driving me crazy. This thing that Trump's doing with children that were born in other countries and then brought over here as children.
Starting point is 00:02:59 And then they're talking about deporting them. That drives me fucking crazy. And the hard right version of that is despicable this these people that i see online why didn't they apply for citizenship oh who knows maybe because they're 13 i don't give a if they broke the law you don't take parents and kids and separate them you just don't you know alonzo no i was like a funny comedian yeah he said he goes not all donald trump supporters are, but all racists are Donald Trump supporters. He definitely awakened that side.
Starting point is 00:03:32 But the January 6th thing is important. See, it is important, but is it the six months later? Is it should be the ruling number one conversation of a journalist? I think it's really important. And one of the reasons why I think it's important because it highlights the reasons why a guy like Donald Trump is so fucking dangerous is because a guy can incite a bunch of morons
Starting point is 00:03:49 to do something really fucking stupid. But as far as trans people, some trans people listening to this, I got nothing but love for you. For everybody. And in fact,
Starting point is 00:03:56 Eddie Izzard is one of my all-time favorite guests. Oh, I love Izzard. The right-wing thing is just an easy way to dismiss me because I'm not right-wing. I can't recommend
Starting point is 00:04:04 your book Race Matters enough. I can't recommend your book, Race Matters, enough. So isn't that interesting? I'm shocked based on his current stance these days. Well, I'm not shocked because I always knew that he had a lot of libertarian leanings, and I don't listen to his podcast, but I stay abreast of the news. And, you know, right now you hear a lot of Democrats say, how do we message? That's it. That's the messaging right there. It's simple. It is, calls people out in a very simple way. I don't like picking on trans people. Trans people have nothing but love for you guys. I'm not for being mean to immigrants. Why didn't they apply?
Starting point is 00:04:47 Well, maybe because they're fucking 13 years old. Maybe that's why. Don't bully them. It's a very simple, moral approach with a strong blend of fuck you to it. And what happened to Joe Rogan? You hear all of this moral clarity that he has there. And he's not a pussy when he talks about all these things. I mean, he's just he's smart about it.
Starting point is 00:05:12 And but what happened to him happened to millions of Americans. Millions of Americans went from feeling like that about a lot of these social issues and then have shifted completely to a man that took a victory lap for overturning Roe v. Wade. And so I think it's interesting that when you see the messaging of Joe Rogan now kind of matches somewhat of what the electorate is and his messaging there, I would imagine some of those clips are around the time Biden won, and he won by like eight, nine million votes, you know, very decisive and won the popular vote over 50%. So I just think it's really interesting how thought leaders in the United States right now have such impact on what people think? It is interesting because of the switch. And obviously, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:06:09 But my question is, why the change? Why move over to MAGA? What was it that caused that? Was it that that's what its audience wants? Is it because the disinformation is so high on Fox News, his viewers and listeners tune out if he doesn't feed them red meat. Are we so addicted to red meat as a society and being in our own silos and hearing what
Starting point is 00:06:31 we want to hear that we can't hear from the other side? I mean, I guess that's my question. Because until we understand why these people have switched to hating immigrants, to not giving a shit if the middle class and poor people have health care and social security, that women have reproductive freedom. Until we figure out why nobody thinks that's important, we can't send the message to help them understand how it impacts them and other members of society. I'm at a loss. I think what happened is this. Rogan there is talking about January 6th and how dangerous it was.
Starting point is 00:07:15 And we all saw with our own eyes how dangerous it was. And then they started, oh, it was actually Antifa. Oh, it was just a dust up, blah, blah. The Democrats pussed out. They completely pussed out. Joe Biden should have said, I won. It was free and fair. These people are sore losers.
Starting point is 00:07:39 They're liars. I'm going to appoint an attorney general that will prosecute every single one of these people. But I'm mostly concerned about who authorized this, who funded it and who called off the National Guard. We all saw with our own eyes. Why isn't the military there? Why are these local cops fighting for their lives against all of these depraved people? We just let it go.
Starting point is 00:08:02 We let their narrative become true. And so it was this slow lying of allowing all of these crimes to go unreported. Then we find out Trump's stolen all the classified documents. What do we do? Oh, we've got an investigation with a special counselor and it's going to take this long and blah, blah, blah. That motherfucker should have been arrested. This whole thing should have been dealt with. And I think you would have not seen this many people float when the leaders say, this is bad, this is terrible, this is a crime. But then they don't do anything that equates to those statements. Then you start to think, well, he's still out there.
Starting point is 00:08:46 He's still out there campaigning. He's selling Bibles and sneakers and it's becoming a meme. And he does the double jerk off dance. And it diminishes how bad all of that stuff was. And you can feel the diminishing of how horrific all of the things he's done. But I don't hold Republicans accountable for that because I don't hold hold Republicans to a moral standard because I know what they're going to do. I hold the Democrats to account for this. What the fuck are y'all doing? What are you doing? Seriously? Merrick Garland? Are you are you serious right now? He prosecuted Timothy McVeigh. They got the death penalty against him. Somebody blew up a building in downtown Oklahoma City. It was a serious crime. It was seriously prosecuted. And there was a serious punishment.
Starting point is 00:09:39 I oppose the death penalty, so nobody go bananas in the comment section. But that's what it was. This guy incites a riot, beats up cops, takes shit in the Capitol, tried to kill the vice president of the United States of America. Nobody took it seriously. Nobody. So you see the diminishing impact of it. You see Rogan change and you see tens of millions of Americans change and say, oh, yeah, he's kind of funny. Trump talking about Hannibal Lecter. That dude's off the rails. I kind of like him. Right. I do agree with you. The biggest mistake the Biden administration made was a Merrick Garland. He sat there and was like, well, I don't want to be seen as playing politics and I don't want to do this and I don't want to do that. Kind of back to the integrity politics. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris should have beat that drum all day long. Merrick Garland
Starting point is 00:10:37 should have filed charges within the first three to six months. The nuclear codes being taken, they fucked around with him for 18 months to get those secrets back. The classified documents they fucked around with for 18 months. Please, please, please, please, please give us that back. They should have gone in. They should have arrested him. They should have taken him out in cuffs, questioned him and shown the American people a robust response to his crimes. But instead, we dumped it on the judicial system that he's been undermining for eight years.
Starting point is 00:11:10 And people are like, oh, I mean, I heard so many people say, oh, well, he couldn't get a fair trial because the system's rigged against him. Well, that's not true. Everybody with half a brain knows that's not true. But he's been allowed to undermine the judiciary, the legislative branch, the executive branch. He has undermined everything, and now he's in control of it. And so I agree with you, and I think Merrick Garland was the biggest mistake in the Biden administration. Look at the game that they play. Look at how ruthless Trump, Stephen Miller, and all of these people are.
Starting point is 00:11:47 And then you have Joe Biden saying, no, I'm not going to pardon Hunter. Are you fucking kidding me? If dumbfuck Eric or Tweedledee Don Jr. were charged or investigated with something, that shit would be buried so fast it'd make your head spin off of your body. They covered up FBI complaints against, with a beer drinker, Kavanaugh. And give me a break. And we're not pardoning Hunter. Are you kidding me? Which was a totally politicized thing that they say, oh, well, he's a private citizen. Yes, but we need to investigate the shit out of this. But Matt Gaetz, now private citizen, we can't investigate him or release the documents.
Starting point is 00:12:29 They play by a completely different set of rules. And when you see, when history judges how the Democrats handled this moment, when Biden was sworn in in 2021, their acquiescence caused this directly. They have shown the public, showed a younger electorate, we don't hold people accountable. We're worried about what that would do to his base. You know who doesn't worry about the Democratic base? Fucking MAGA. They could give two shits. So quit worrying about them because you know your policies help them.
Starting point is 00:13:04 Quit trying to, you know, your policies help them quit trying to, you know, look at us. We got a trophy, Liz Cheney. Look at her. We're going to trot her out. Look, a Republican likes us. She voted with Donald Trump 95% of the time. Look at us. Give me a fucking break. It's the Joe Roganization. That's you heard what he was like. And I think he would have been, and all of those men, if they would have said, this motherfucker is a liar. He tried to kill his own vice president. This is what America isn't about. People want that shit. What'd we do? Oh God, we don't want to upset the base of MAGA. Fuck them. I think the Democrats are under some misguided notion that they're going to be able to play kumbaya with MAGA Republicans and that there are still
Starting point is 00:13:53 true conservatives out there. And my response to that is you are never, ever, ever going to bring a MAGA voter to the Democratic side. And the pool of true conservatives that haven't gone headlong into MAGA is infantile. But let's talk about the true conservative. Why do we give a shit about the true conservative? Even that language is the problem with the Democratic Party. Fuck the true conservative. Even that language is the problem with the Democratic Party. Fuck the true conservatives. The true conservatives are the Liz Cheney's who trot around and vote with Donald Trump 95% of the time, who perpetuate the lie that after a baby is born, it is executed. Fuck the true conservatives. They're the ones who lie to the middle class and say, wealth trickles down.
Starting point is 00:14:47 Give me a break. I've had it with the true conservatives and the MAGA base. Fuck all of them. Why do we have to? Oh, my God. You know what? Mitt Romney likes us. Liz Cheney likes us.
Starting point is 00:14:58 They don't give a fuck if we like them or not. They just go and say, we're going to do what we want to do with reckless disregard for the rule of law, people's feelings, all of these things. And they plow through. They tell us what they're going to do and they do it. And I think you would have seen a completely different American electorate had Joe Biden done his job, starting with dealing with a coup d'etat. They tried to kill his own vice president. And how did they respond? Lollygagging, pussyfooting, Wimpleville, Wussville, and then yearning for the true conservative.
Starting point is 00:15:42 Fuck off. I mean, that shit is over. I've had it. All right, guys, we'll see y'all later. It's so entertaining to have the fame. So good.
