Starting point is 00:00:00 What is happening inside these places is so evil and so disgusting. I've talked to dozens and dozens of people, women saying they get used underwear every day. And so UTIs are rampant. Infections are rampant. Severe medical neglect. That's why you've had 52 deaths in ICE custody. A lot of horrific stories. I mean, I've had women break down sobbing telling me that they're enduring psychological and physical torture and they'll never be the same.
Starting point is 00:00:30 Joining me on I've had it weekend is Representative Yassiman Ansari of Arizona's third congressional district who is the youngest woman currently serving in Congress. Congresswoman, welcome. And what's going on at work? Well, I wish we were at work. You know, as you know, Mike Johnson shut down the house a couple weeks early before our existing October recess. So currently my focus is the midterm elections that I've been home in Arizona.
Starting point is 00:01:11 Arizona campaigning like crazy because we have multiple seats in Arizona that we're trying to flip. The road to the House majority quite literally runs through Arizona. We also have a Democratic governor, Secretary of State and Attorney General on the ballot. But that being said, as important as the midterm elections obviously are, I am very disappointed that we were sent home early given all that's going on with artificial intelligence and the need to regulate the industry. little Moses Mike is really quite spectacular at disappointing the American public. I mean, he is just truly each and every day an absolute disappointment.
Starting point is 00:01:47 What do you make of a speaker of the House when I think of it in my recent memory, Nancy Pelosi, who had all this power and she wielded it. Yeah. She whipped votes. She, you know, she, I remember Trump gave some bat shit speech and she ripped it up on national television from right behind him. I mean, just zero Fs to give. And then comparing that to this guy, Mike Johnson, he just seems to do whatever the White House wants him to do to protect what I perceive to be their crimes and corruption.
Starting point is 00:02:20 I could not agree more. I think Mike Johnson is such a joke. Like, I have tried to give him the benefit of the doubt from the beginning, but he has continuously proven to be somebody who is only there to enable Trump and only there to just abdicate the responsibility of Congress. I mean, we are supposed to be a co-equal branch of government, and we are supposed to legislate and get things done. And yes, you know, the majority party typically works with the White House, but they don't bend the need to the White House in every way, shape, or form. I mean, let's go back to last summer when, you know, there was the push to get
Starting point is 00:02:55 the Epstein files released. The moment Mike Johnson felt that he was losing some of his own party, He was like, oh, it's canceled. We're going home a week before August recess. So we had a five-week recess. And we came back. Of course, there was a congresswoman from my state, Arizona. Adelaidea took Rehalva. He kept postponing her.
Starting point is 00:03:16 Oh, yes. He totally did her over. Like, I think it went on for over a month. She's been on the pod. She's great. Yeah. Yeah. And she ended up being the last signatory there.
Starting point is 00:03:25 Let me just ask some personal questions behind the curtain thing that I think our audience is curious about. So we see the optics of Washington. We see the optics of the press conferences. Take us behind the scenes. When you see little Mike around work, do you talk to him? Have you seen that, what's her name, that girl that just had the threesomes or was growing somebody in her stuff? Lauren, do you see Lauren Bobert?
Starting point is 00:03:53 Do you see these people at work, Marjorie? Yeah, yeah. Do you talk to them? What goes on behind the curtain? So I've never talked to Mike, but I have a. set up outside his office during that time. I put up a table outside his office about how he was covering up the Epstein files. Love that. He didn't say anything to you about it? No, he never made it pass, but some of his staffers tried to turn up the music to get us to go away.
Starting point is 00:04:19 But he, I just think he's a joke and he doesn't really know what he's doing. Lauren Bober, I serve on two committees with her actually, both on oversight and natural resources. is she's fine. I've talked to her in the context of oversight committee work. Like we were in New York together when we had the deposition with the Clintons. And behind the scenes there, if you might remember, she actually leaked a photo out of the deposition and caused a lot of anger because agreements had been made that she wouldn't do that. You know, she's fine. I mean, a lot of these people, I think most of these Republicans at this point are just, trying to get past this Trump era. They know how unpopular he is. There's, of course, the diehards
Starting point is 00:05:02 who still believe in him. I think the rest of them are just trying to make it through their complete cowards because they won't do anything or say anything because they're scared of retaliation. But I think they're just hoping, like, let us get past this Trump era, and hopefully people will forget about the damage that we've caused. Yeah, they are such a disappointment. Okay, the polling, you're working on the midterms. The polling is looking really, really good for us. Let's pop this up. The Democrats lead Republicans, 53% to 38 in a general ballot, and this is according to a U-Gov poll, and I've been showing them every day these last several days, and it looks like this. Obviously, everybody is very concerned when you hear Mark Wayne
Starting point is 00:05:46 Mullen talking about, of course, we're going to have ice at the polls. And you see the Supreme Court on the shadow docket constantly, um, uh, uh, passing or allowing voter suppression type laws to go through. You know that Trump famously is a cheater. We've seen it golf. I've seen it online where he throws the golf ball down or, you know, he's just a big cheater. So what are you and your colleagues worried about these elections, particularly in states, like let's talk about Texas. You have Governor Abbott, who is a huge Trump thumper, a huge Trump fluffer, just like, you know,
Starting point is 00:06:27 know, Mike Johnson, no conviction, no backbone. And we have this major Senate race there. And you may remember back in the 2020 election, Trump called the guys in Georgia, I need 11,000 votes. Well, now he's put people in place that will find him those votes. And I'm terrified that we're going to have a major turnout, but they're going to cheat. I don't want to say that your fear is invalid because I think it is. We have been preparing for well over a year, because I think everyone who is rational agrees that this is a possibility that he's going to do whatever he takes to scare people. I think the ice tactic is really to make sure that people of color don't feel comfortable going, right, and decide to sit the election out. We have been preparing both within our caucus.
Starting point is 00:07:16 We have a specific task force that is designed to focus on election security. They're working with lawyers on making sure lawsuits are prepared if need be for a day of or day after the election. Like all of that needs to be, you know, proactively planned for. In Arizona, I can say, and this is happening at different states, we're working very closely at all levels of government to prepare for every single scenario. Like in Arizona, we have a county recorder. He's already doing this stuff. He's talking about shutting down polling sites that are in majority black neighborhoods. He's talking about he just wants to make it more difficult, right?
Starting point is 00:07:51 And so we have to over communicate with those populations, make sure people know how to get out. out and vote. There's massive efforts underway to knock on over a million doors in Arizona so people know what's true and like know that voting is safe and they should vote early and by mail. So it just worried about the mail. A little worried about the mail. I think voting by mail is secure and safe. And, you know, at this point with the judgments that have been made, I think I think it's important that just people vote as early as possible. And, you know, I hate, I hate to sound. like that, but I just think vote, the moment early voting begins, get it out of the way, do it.
Starting point is 00:08:32 And if you're more comfortable, drop it off at the polling location. You know, I think just we should, everyone should do what they're comfortable with and it's up to elected officials at different levels to really be informing their constituents on this. So our Secretary of State in Arizona, for example, is doing TV ads already explaining the processes. He's a Democrat, thank God, and a huge defender of democracy running against a whack job. But, you know, that's why, that's why all these elections are so important though because I always I sleep better at night knowing if I didn't have our top three in Arizona as Democrats, we would be in a massive shit show right now like Texas, right? Because you'd have people who would just spend the need to Donald Trump.
Starting point is 00:09:13 Yes. And I mean, I've seen some polling out that's very promising for Tala Rico where he's up in districts that Trump won by 20. And so, you know, Paxton knows this. Everybody knows this. It would be a huge, I was born in Dallas and from Oklahoma City and just borders Texas, but it would just be a huge win if Texas could finally flip blue because like the United States, Texas has these great big blue cities full of multiculturalism that are economic hubs for the state. They have a lot of rural areas that, when added up, compete with these cities. So that would be a big win. But let's say that we are, the turnout is too big to rig. They're going to try a lot of shenanigans.
Starting point is 00:10:00 Let's say they try the shenanigans. And then we have to rely on little Moses Mike to swear all of these people in. So we have hurdle after hurdle after hurdle. But let's be optimistic for a second and give my listeners some hopium. And let's advance to January of next year. You were on the Oversight Committee with Robert Garcia and who else is on it with Jamie Raskin. Jamie Raskin was.
Starting point is 00:10:26 He's now chair of, or he will be chair of Judiciary. We have Maxwell Frost. I love him. We have a lot of freshmen in my class, Suhoss, Super Monium, Wesley Bell, Melanie Stansbury. It's a good group. You're your top five. You're going to drag in? I think that we have to drag in Todd Blanche, number one.
Starting point is 00:10:51 Todd. All right. I'm making a list here. and then we're going to review him. Okay, Todd's number one. Todd's number one because of his cover-up of the Epstein files, and he never came in, even though he was supposed to. It's also campaigning for candidates from as Attorney General, which I think we need to ask him about that. Yeah. Who's number two? Number two for me would be, and this will be a tough one because of foreign affairs,
Starting point is 00:11:12 but I think Pete Hegg-Seth, there is a strong oversight element there. I mean, this, hopefully he's fired by then, but this is somebody who I think at this point, even Republicans have recognized as wholly unqualified for the job. I've introduced articles of impeachment against him. The guy needs to go. Even if he's fired, don't you think he needs to be drug in to talk about the alleged war crimes and blowing up boats and the Iranian school girls? Okay, who's number three?
Starting point is 00:11:38 Number three. So I have been, I think the Trump kids, the Trump family corruption is really important. I call them dumb and dumber here. Yeah, and I don't know if that gets, if that can all be at one. I think you could put that on their subpoenas, too dumb just for spite. No, no. Yeah, there's got to be. be away. There's got to be a way. All right, number four. So that was all one category.
Starting point is 00:11:59 Yeah, those are the kids, the kids. The Trump kids are one category. What about, let me tell you something as a pet project of mine. What about John Roberts or Clarence Thomas? You have John Roberts deciding on cases that his wife's law firm has received millions of dollars for. You have Clarence Thomas who decides on cases of people who, giving free trips on yachts. Famously, a lot of the wives of these Supreme Court justices collect insurrectionist style flags and or were in cults and or on the planning committee of January 6th. Yeah. The Supreme Court, and I don't know if oversight does this or not, but the Supreme Court, in my opinion, is just a corrupt evil institution to its core with no oversight.
Starting point is 00:12:46 And the Republicans have effed us on the Supreme Court. They have been ruthless. They have relentless and they got the people they want there now. And those people are allowing crimes to be committed by the President of the United States, allowing them. They are allowing immigrants that are not criminals that have paperwork issues, paperwork issues, to be deported to countries they're not from, which seems cruel and unusual. And I just feel like the Supreme Court has got to be a massive undertaking of Congress. Yeah. Yeah. I don't know if that falls better under judiciary than oversight, but yeah, absolutely. I think the Supreme Court needs to be a priority for sure and just Supreme Court
Starting point is 00:13:36 reform and expansion of the Supreme Court. Within oversight, we're really, the buckets that we're thinking about are Trump family corruption, corporate corruption, Epstein, ICE. What about Elon? You can drag his ass in there for what he did at USAIDE? And yeah, I think Elon absolutely. Right now, for me, though, top of mind is also these AI CEOs. That's like the top five is very difficult. I think it needs to be like a top 50, but the CEO of OpenAI, Sam Altman, and then even Mark Zuckerberg, because in just the last few days, we are seeing these news reports about how Meta is avoiding billions of dollars in taxes through data centers, some loophole there, and he's in Trump's ear.
Starting point is 00:14:22 He's one of the main reasons that Trump is, you know, I mean, Trump is an idiot. So I'm sure we would not have a solution regardless. But Zuckerberg is pushing Trump to not regulate AI and to just let them, you know, police themselves. And I think I think by January we're going to be in a very bad place when it comes to AI. What do you do if you subpoena, Elon Musking, doesn't show up? You hold them in contempt or criminal contempt. You can, that's something we've done like just the other day. Leon Black is part of the Epstein investigation.
Starting point is 00:14:57 He did not show up twice. And so we voted unanimously as a committee to hold him in contempt of Congress. And that becomes a whole legal thing that they have to go arresting? Eventually, yes. Yeah. Because like, for me, like at this stage in the criminal takeover, it's like, ooh, you're going to hold them in contempt. Because that's the way those people see it. So it doesn't, those words don't have the meaning that they used to because Trump has eroded the rule of law so much.
Starting point is 00:15:29 Yeah, yeah. Like if somebody told me, we're going to hold you in criminal contempt, I'd be like, oh, shit. I mean, I would be like flop sweating. Yeah. For them, they're like, you know, oh, the Democrats are going to hold us in contempt. And so I worry that these people are going to just continue to be so flagrant in their disregard for the rule of law, the disregard for the voters. who elected you all and didn't elect these people. But I want to ask you a little bit about where the Democrats you think are going to be
Starting point is 00:16:01 as it pertains to the tech oligarchs. I had Kara Swisher in here last week, and she's the big tech oligarch journalist. Yeah, she's awesome. She's awesome. She said, it'll be interesting to see, do the Democrats have a reckoning with them and say, you guys need to be held accountable, or do they start making deals with them? And I've been thinking about that ever since she said that. I've been thinking about how there's two different types of Democrats.
Starting point is 00:16:28 There's going to be a Hakeem Jeffries branch of the Democratic Party that will want to Neville Chamberlain and appease the tech oligarchs. And then there's going to be the Rokana, I imagine you and Robert Garcia, AOC, and others that are going to be like, we're not kissing their ass. We're not making deals. We want accountability. and how do you think if we have this big Democratic Congress, how are you going to navigate the Hakeem Jeffries branch of the Democratic Party, which is appeasement, which is sitting down
Starting point is 00:17:03 with Jared Kushner, which is a Neville Chamberlain approach, and then what the people want, what I see out in our space, people want fighters. How internally do you imagine the party dealing with this? Very good question. I mean, I think the tech oligarchs have caused so much damage to this country that they need to be priority number one on the corporate side of things for dealing with the corruption. I do think there's broad support for that. I mean, as like the last few weeks, we've been in intense discussions about AI and what to do. I mean, it just blew up, right? In the last couple of weeks since the whistleblowers came forward, I've heard a lot of my calls. I've heard a lot of my colleagues talk about how badly we failed with tech and social media. And the failures to regulate
Starting point is 00:17:54 them as it pertains to social media have led to catastrophic harms to kids. And now we've seen this meta lawsuit, you know, settlement come forward. And we failed. I mean, and there's acknowledgement that there was failure and a recognition that we can't fail again. And so I, you know, I understand your skepticism, but I think there will be enough push within the caucus to go after these oligarchs and hold them accountable, use existing laws on the books to hold them accountable if people have gotten hurt. There's strong support for not bailing out the industry. If suddenly this AI bubble burst, like, it doesn't matter. We cannot bail them out. They've done this to themselves. And we have to hold firm on that. And you're right,
Starting point is 00:18:42 the people are on our side. I've never seen such a, you know, uproar among the public population because we already were seeing job losses, impacts on kids, you know, people using chat GPT to conduct mass shootings and carry out suicides. And now we're talking about the end of human life. And I don't think that these people are exaggerating. These are the engineers building this technology. Yeah. And they do that at great risk. Yes. You know, a whistleblower, to me, they typically do that at such a great risk themselves. It automatically lends a lot of veracity to their statements to leave kind of a safe cush job. All right.
Starting point is 00:19:22 Let's talk about where the electorate is. And in my lifetime, I have never seen myself as included in what I'm about to describe. So many people swing from liberal to progressives or moderate Republicans to progressives. Kylie's got a relative that was a Republican a couple years ago and now she's, I love Zoran Mamdani. And this is a woman, a middle-aged woman in rural Oklahoma. So this is happening all over the place. You have people that have shifted to progressive politics. And you recently announced earlier this year that you were no longer taking money from pro-Israel groups, which I really, really commend you for that. And I think we all as an electorate and our elected
Starting point is 00:20:11 officials have educated ourselves, have seen what has happened over there. And so will you please talk to my audience about your decision to not accept this money and your personal evolution in that because I didn't take money from them, but I also had a personal evolution. And I think it's a very relatable story for a lot of Americans. Yeah. Well, first of all, I just as I don't take corporate pack money, because I don't even want the perception that a $5,000 check is impacting what I do or don't do because foreign policy has become and should have always been a very important issue to Americans. A major reason is I don't want anyone to even think that a dollar coming from an organization
Starting point is 00:20:58 or an entity is impacting what I'm doing. I always want, especially when it comes to foreign policy, which is what I studied an undergrad and I've always been interested in national security. I'm the daughter of Iranian immigrants. Issues pertaining to the Middle East broadly are issues that I think very thoughtfully about. And I don't just go in one direction without probably, in some cases, years of thought and years of research.
Starting point is 00:21:27 And so given how important this is, I think it's really important to not take money from some of these organizations, also because I did learn that there's just very little, if not no nuance allowed when talking to some of these organizations. And I really also want to make clear, I'm not talking about the individuals who may have supported these organizations over the years. Millions of Americans, Jewish Americans have been part of, whether APEC or DMFI,
Starting point is 00:21:58 it's not about anyone individually because anyone is, of course, allowed to support and take part in the political process. But the national organizations, I just could, I just was not in line with their policies, you know, anymore. And I think that given how the situation in relating to Israel and Palestine has evolved over the last few years looking at everything from Netanyahu stating over and over again that there will never be a Palestinian state to Ben-Gavir, you know, talking about expelling millions of Palestinians from Gaza, of course, the abhorrent violence in the West Bank that nobody is trying to stop in a meaningful way. That type of position of this Israeli government became impossible to continue to support. I think, and I know as a politician you have to approach
Starting point is 00:22:55 it a certain way because of the Israel lobby, but when I hear politicians now, caveat their critique of the country by throwing in the platitudes that people need to hear, even that starts to feel disingenuous because I feel like it is an existential crisis what they're doing. Ben-Givir put out videos of like Palestinians on a conveyor belt sending them to a concentration camp. I mean, it's really crazy. And then you find out, we've sent billions upon billions upon billions of dollars for this iron dome and all of their defense. You're telling us some people on motorbikes penetrated this dome, and then you find out, oh, Benjamin Netanyahu knew. He knew the whole time. He was warned by multiple different people. Then you find out from very reliable
Starting point is 00:23:44 sources that Hamas offered to give the hostages back the very next day, and Israel said no. And so my critique for politicians right now is why do we have to placate platitudes for a genocidal, homicidal war criminal government when we just need to get right to the nut cutting of what they're doing right now. Benjamin Netanyahu has the blood of those hostages on his hands. They offered to give them back to him and he said no because they're transactional to him. much like the people in Alligator Alcatraz are transactional to Donald Trump and what's his name, Stephen Miller. And so I'm desiring a more honest conversation about all of this. And it's a minefield because what I just said, some Jewish people will hear that and they will feel like I'm being anti-Semitic. What I am saying is solely about the government of Israel, not about Jewish people because Jewish people are not a monolith.
Starting point is 00:24:48 and in the Jewish diaspora. I mean, I know a ton of New Yorkers here who were like far worse, I mean, they are far worse critics on Israel than I am. And is it such that we have to kind of tiptoe into talking about it? Okay, I'll take a step back. Okay. I'm the daughter of Iranian immigrant. So I've grown up understanding or dealing with people thinking a government of a place is horrible
Starting point is 00:25:17 and linking the people to that. And I feel that that is now in recent years because of what the government of Israel is doing and the absolute atrocities that have taken place in Gaza, now that is somewhat happening, or at least there's a perception for the Jewish community that that is what's happening to them. There is a rise of anti-Semitism.
Starting point is 00:25:43 Absolutely, in the United States. I'm talking about like the, I'm trying to distinguish between the people of the country and this government that is absolutely abhorrent to the recent reporting you mentioned. I mean, it is, it is appalling, but it's honestly not surprising. It's not actually that shocking to me because I think Netanyahu throughout his career has done anything he needs to stay in power and to avoid prison and to be, you know, he's very much like Donald Trump. And so I think that, you know, I know there's still more.
Starting point is 00:26:15 validating to do on that, but it was pretty credible reporting that he had the information and chose not to do anything about it. And I just truly hope that they have better outcomes in their elections coming up because at this point, you know, as you mentioned, all of the actions that they've taken have isolated them from the world. I also, you know, I know Palestinians from my district who've lost 60, 70 family members over the last couple of years. it's devastating. There's going to be a lot of work that's going to have to be done
Starting point is 00:26:47 on both sides to move. I don't even know where you begin with that. It's difficult. And I say all of those things really bluntly because I think we have to start getting blunt about it. But at the same time, we do have to acknowledge that, like in the Iranian diaspora, you're here. Y'all don't support the Ayatollah and your family
Starting point is 00:27:07 wouldn't support that. And the Iranian culture, particularly in Los Angeles, I think they call it Little Iran, is incredible. And if you look back to images from Iran in the 1970s, how democratic and amazing it was and how it can switch like this. But we have in the United States right now a fascist and competent dictator. And in Israel, they have a fascist, very competent, very nefarious dictator, Benjamin Netanyahu. And I think that we're all just kind of programmed with this out.
Starting point is 00:27:43 ally ship. And one thing I see is like both countries right now are aligned because they're both corrupt as all get out, our country and their country. And so my hope as we move forward is that we have a Democratic Congress. And it's going to be difficult because Halkim Jeffries is a big receiver of APEC money. And he's not very critical of Israel, the government and their provocations. And so I'm hopeful that we can have a Democratic Congress that really anchors in a moral clarity about that. And I think a good way to do it, and I try to do this on this podcast, is elevate American Jewish voices that oppose this government.
Starting point is 00:28:31 I think you probably saw the protests when Benjamin Netanyahu was here in New York. And actress Hannah, how do you say her last name? Imbender. She's a Jewish actress. She was on hacks with the red hair. arrested with Susan Sarandon. Okay. And so it's a difficult issue, but I know where the public is now on both the left and the right, that people don't want our money being sent to Israel anymore. Yeah. It's generational too, like even among the Jewish community. It is generational.
Starting point is 00:29:02 You'll see, you know, younger Jewish Americans broadly opposed, you know, to Israel's policies, but not I still think there is majority opposed even in the older generations but it's it's there's a big discrepancy yeah there is and that gives me hope yeah for the future that younger generations are more inclusive of universal human rights that even despite 10 years of their formative years being under trump that they that they have this north star of universal human rights and fighting for the most marginalized people in that fight yeah you know so i think okay, all right, uncomfortable conversation. No, I think it's so important that we have national conversations about this,
Starting point is 00:29:45 because these are just, these are issues that come up, especially on the far left side of our party. It's a really, really big issue that, you know, we see in our comment section, it permeates all over. And I'll say this. The most recent vote that we had on the Thomas Massey Amendment that would have blocked 3.3 billion in offensive military aid. We had very robust conversations within the Democratic caucus about it. This is my first term, so I don't have prior experience with it. But according to people who have been around, this was the first time where we've had really intense debates among everyone, which I think is really important.
Starting point is 00:30:29 Because to your point, it's hard. Some people on all sides have their entrenched opinions. but I think there is a reckoning happening and the conference and you know there there was agreement you know for everyone to respect each other no matter which way you went in the vote but as you know I'm sure you remember more Democrats voted to block that funding that didn't which was historic and you know leader Jeffries did put out a statement saying and you know we will have to change our policies what that looks like we shall see but I think the tide is turning for sure.
Starting point is 00:31:06 Yeah, I do too. And I just want to point out to, you know, some people listen to these conversations and they get uncomfortable. But if I compare it to like the United States right now, I cheer on Canada when their PM tells Trump, you are not acting as a Democratic person that is for liberal democracy. You are acting like a despot. You are acting like a dictator and we will not be bullied by you. I cheer Canada on in that because I believe in liberal democracy. And so I welcome liberal democracies around the world like Spain and Canada to criticize the shit out of my government and to tell my government right now that is murdering American citizens with our taxpayer money. I encourage them to critique us, to not do business with us, to have sanctions on us because there's nothing good that our government is doing right now except for covering up for pay.
Starting point is 00:32:02 head of files and then making, you know, here we have number three on your list of people you're going to whose asses you're going to drag in to oversight, making all these people richer. Okay. Thank you for having that conversation. I just think it's super important. All right. So now, do you think Democratic leadership when we get in? Let's have the Hakeem Jeffrey's conversation. I don't like disliking Hakeem. It drives me crazy. I hate it. I want him to fight for us for the Democratic Party to listen to where the base is. You're in a precarious situation. I'm not going to corner you here because I'm not that big of an asshole.
Starting point is 00:32:43 I'm just kind of an asshole. And I understand that he would be your boss and you would have to work with him. So my question is this. The Progressive Caucus has enthusiasm, support. You've got all the cool kids that are in the AOC, Maxwell Frost, etc. Rokana, you, do you think the progressive caucus, oh, who's that Greg Kassar? I love him. Yes. He's been on a couple times. So all of those stars in the party, are you guys ready to go to bat with what I call preservationist Democrats, Democrats that want to preserve the system
Starting point is 00:33:23 of protecting corporations? Are you guys ready if we get the gavel and we march in and you have the Blue Waiver, you're all ready to go fight with leadership and say, come on, we can't do this. Yes, yes, we are ready. We are ready. We are ready. We've had a lot of conversations about it. And, you know, again, I've never been in the majority, but I hear it's tense. And, you know, Nancy Pelosi ran a tight ship. But Leader Jeffries has a different style of leadership. He is, he is very collaborative, which I think is a good trait. I think what's going to be important also to push leadership to be more with the base is also the caucus changing itself to be more in line with the base. And I think next Congress, we have a lot of new people coming in who will bolster our
Starting point is 00:34:14 ability to push the overall caucus, if that makes sense. Like his job is to represent the amalgamation of here comes the asshole. Do you see any scenario where there's like we should do a vote and not vote him in? I don't see that scenario. Okay. I don't either because you've got like Zoron and AOC saying like, you know, I think it'd be a great summerlee. I think it should be a great speaker. Like you're getting silent and nodding. I don't want to be, I want the Democrats to win.
Starting point is 00:34:44 I want to love Hakeem Jeffreys. I want Hakeem to tell his donors to go fuck themselves and that he's going to fight for the American people. And I will be the biggest Hakeem Jeffries thumper cheerleader on the planet. But as long as he's taken that corporate pack money and word saluting answers and taking private meetings with Jared fucking Kushner, I'm just like, I'm trying to like you, dude. Come on. Yeah. So that's that's very, very irritating. All right, let's see what else I can make you uncomfortable about. I'm not uncomfortable.
Starting point is 00:35:19 Let's talk about Mark Wayne Mullen. So Mark Wayne Mullen is from my home state. And he, if you go over at his Twitter feed, he posts a lot of Bible verse stuff on the weekends. And then during his job, you know, his organization, people are dying in ICE custody. But let's let's do a little, play a little clip of Mark Wayne and get Yossaman's take. Biden holiday ends. These people broke the law. That's where they're there and they're in the deportation process to lead the country because they chose to come to the country legally.
Starting point is 00:35:54 And it's my job to arrest them and to send them. back and we do a good job with that. I hate these people. Me too. I really hate these people. I think Mullen has been a little bit more under the radar than Christy Noem, so we don't see as much of him, but the policies are just as awful. Look, going after ice and shutting ice down is one of my top priorities in this job for as long as I'm in it.
Starting point is 00:36:29 I've gone to 13. I've done 13 oversight visits at detention centers in Arizona, Texas at the Dilley Detention Center, and Florida. And what is happening inside these places is so evil and so disgusting. I've talked to dozens and dozens of people, women saying they get used underwear every day. And so UTIs are rampant. Infections are rampant. Severe medical neglect. That's why you've had 52 deaths in ICE custody. obviously at Dilley you have families there and so children who are being traumatized a lot of horrific stories I mean I've had women break down sobbing telling me that they're enduring psychological and physical torture and they'll never be the same and then of course and that's the stuff we don't even see like that's just I can just share that with you because I go and I come out and I tell people
Starting point is 00:37:19 but it's hard to even fathom and then it's the third country deportations are absolutely insane I know I know a woman, an Iranian woman who had come here as an asylum seeker. They put her on a military plane and sent her to Panama last year. And she had no idea where she was going. What happens to that person? Her story is, so basically she was with a group of people she never met, some from China, some from Afghanistan. They literally just put them on a plane. She thought maybe she was going to like another state to go through an asylum process, nothing.
Starting point is 00:37:54 No interview, no nothing. Got to Panama. They're suddenly at like a hotel of sorts or a camp and they're like, you're now here. She used her phone and social media and like basically filmed this experience and got it out to the world. New York Times got a hold of it. So her story became known. And as a result, I mean, I introduced a bill named after her in Congress around deportations of third countries. Panama let her stay additional time and then a Canadian family just helped her get asylum in Canada.
Starting point is 00:38:32 But this is one story. You now have thousands of people being sent to Africa. I mean, it is outrageous. I don't know if you know last year when Kilmara, Breggo-Garcia was deported, I went to El Salvador with Robert and Maxwell and Maxine Dexter, just so we could put more attention on it because everything in today's environment, the most horrific stories get lost. an hour. So I don't know. I just, I can't stand. And you mentioned Stephen Miller earlier. This all comes from Stephen Miller. Oh, is he on our list, top five? He should be number one. I agree. Yeah. So I think a democratic talking point needs to be abolish and prosecute.
Starting point is 00:39:14 I've been saying that. Okay, good. I think we have to prosecute these people. I think, and this is just a petty thing, if you could address this for me. American to Congresswoman. Enough with the grandstanding of the people that are the head of the DHS, having these videos that torment us and the TSA lines at the airport. Oh, my God. For the first year, first year and a half, it was Christy Noem with, you know, one of her looks on.
Starting point is 00:39:46 And now I was just flying to Los Angeles and I'll be god damned if Mark Wayne Mullen wasn't in the line was so long and there's mark wayne mullin on a screen i think we need to ban these people from being on television screens in airports there's nothing good that comes from and i think both if it's a democratically appointed dhs leader yes enough hire an actor this is the united states we're the entertainment capital hire an actor to talk about it yeah the grandstanding of this is that something that you think you can get bipartisanship support for i think so and if i remember correctly i think certain airports were deciding to play this or not.
Starting point is 00:40:25 Because in Phoenix, we didn't. And it was like a decision made by the director of the airport. So I need to look back into that, but it's interesting because I don't think it was a mandated. They couldn't force it. The fact that some airports are- This is at JFK. Yeah, that means. J-FK.
Starting point is 00:40:41 I don't know what's going on there, but get Mark Wayne off the screens. Yeah. Yeah. All right, yes, I mean, this has just been fantastic. I want to thank you so much for the candid conversation. I think it's so great that we have this space now where my audience can get to know the youngest female member of Congress. I think that is so cool.
Starting point is 00:41:00 Thank you. And I think it's, I'm so, I'm so excited to see the new generation of politicians come in and I'm so over all of the seniority and the way things work. I want you guys to just go in and break it all and tear it all down and you have my support. So thank you so much. This is fun. Nice to see you. You too.
