You're listening to In Your Pants with Dr. Susie G, the physiotherapist for your private,
helping you get in the know down below.
Today on the show, Susie welcomes Dr. Justin Charles-Claire, chiropractor and host of his
own podcast, A Doctor's Perspective.
Dr. Justin calls in from China where he's the only chiropractor for a city of 200,000
people.
Listen as Susie and Dr. Justin discuss some different views on sexual health between
America and China. Hey guys, it's Dr. Susie G here bringing you another great episode with Dr.
Justin Trostclair. Don't let the Southern accent fool y'all because Dr. Justin likes to dream big
and live big, which is why he's chatting with us all the way from China. He's the only chiropractor
for 200,000 people in a small city of China. Isn't that awesome? So without further ado,
Dr. Justin, welcome to the show.
I'm so glad you're here.
Ni hao, hen gao xing, zhen dao ni.
Watch out, that's all I know.
That just says hello.
Please translate.
Hi, it's nice to meet you.
That's pretty good.
That's more than I know.
Hey, I can do very little without my translator.
It's pretty sad.
No, not sad at all.
You're doing great.
You're learning as you go.
True enough.
Yes. So Dr. Justin, tell us a little bit about yourself and what brought you to China.
Yeah, I'll give you the abbreviated version. I had my own chiropractic clinic for like six years in
Colorado. And I found myself just kind of, you know, waiting, doing okay, and then kind of slowing
down and just that every month's a new month. And after a while, I was like, okay, what else is out
there. Maybe I can sell my clinic, maybe move closer to home. You know, I was kind of missing
my family and all that kind of stuff. And I was like, what else can I do? Can I like do research
projects or anything? No. Can I work in a hospital? No. Okay. So, and the person who was buying my
clinic, it's like, oh, I worked in another country. And I was like, oh my goodness, that sounds pretty
cool. So I was looking around and Australia, Europe, you know, the cool places where you have
take boards again. It's been six years. I'm not taking boards again. I don't blame you. Right.
Unless I was married or something. And I was like, okay, I need to go to France and live there and
all that. So anyway, so China doesn't have any official chiropractic schools at all in the
entire country. So we're kind of a hot deal, hot commodity. And went back and forth with a guy for
about four or five months asking questions. To him, he was like, what are you talking about?
I was like, dude, we don't know much about China.
And, you know, I have a tattoo of a cross on my leg.
I was like, I don't want to go to work camp.
Right?
I was like, I heard you can't preach Jesus in China.
I was like, I don't want to get in trouble just for having a tattoo.
And he's like, you watch way too many movies.
I was like, well, I have no idea.
No idea.
So I was like, you know what?
There's a billion people here.
They survive all the time.
And I can surely go there, even if I hate it, I can stay for a few months, bow out gracefully and then come back home and start over or do it for a year, be happy, save some money and then come back to America and have some more money saved and start another clinic.
And that was the originally the idea.
So that was kind of how I got into China.
And now it's been three years.
That is amazing.
So you really just leaned into the face of uncertainty.
Yeah, it was, you know, that first week, luckily there was one mother, uh, American here and
he really showed me the ropes in the hospital, what to do, where to go to the bathroom, uh,
versus like the public bathroom, you know, and how to, you know, just recognizing like,
Hey, you have a lot more power here than you realize, like you're kind of a big deal.
They're going to treat you like a big deal.
you can, you know, don't, don't get a big head, but you can kind of get away with a few things
because you don't know the culture and things like that. So it was a, it was a lifesaver that
first month to have like a tutor. That's awesome. And don't worry, we're going to be talking all
about your toileting habits in China. They're pretty soon. Oh, I bet you do. I know I'm dying
to hear them. So, you know, first let's, let's back up a little bit. Let's back up. What, tell
us what your cultural experience is about sexual health in general um that you've realized through
your travels it's interesting you've got a group of people who and i'm in a small town too so
think small town america except 200 000 people um and maybe kind of more southern like bible belt
so you have some people who are like 18 or 20 let's say 19 or 20 but they kind of have the
maturity in that area of maybe like a 15 year old and so they flirt different here you know there's
there's not a lot of touching and you're very kind of segregated throughout school you're not
really supposed to date until you get out of high school maybe in college if your parents are will
you know officially give you the stamp of approval otherwise you're just kind of
going about your business. So there's naive innocence for certain people, kind of even in
the marriage relationship, there's definitely that old school, like if you want a wife that's
going to cook clean, hey, but they're not all like that, obviously. It's just kind of that's
one group. And you got another group, maybe like in the bigger city, where they are free,
like an American woman, if I want to do something, I'm going to do it. And I'm gonna go to the bar
and I'm going to find myself a guy and that's fine. Like, so guys, you know, obviously the
guys are the same way. They're like, can I find a nice one night stand or whatever? So
you have both ends of the spectrum in that 20 year old range, just kind of depending on where
you live and how you grow up. Nice. And are they, yeah, totally. And do you, do you feel like
they're more sexually expressive there where you're at? I mean, I know it depends on the
small town versus a city, which I think is pretty similar to the States. Like you mentioned,
you know, Bible belt versus, you know, Chicago or New York city. Yeah. What, what do you notice
the types of similarities or differences around that? And are, are people shy to talk about their
private parts or. Yeah. Hugely shy. I mean, you don't, Oh man. Um, it's funny that you'll wear,
and I always think like, I didn't think girls, but cause they were like short skirts, but they
always have shorts underneath them because they're always like on scooters and stuff
so you know in america kind of like they're you know people are shy and kind of proper and
they might just be kind of sitting sitting kind of in a crazy way where you're like as a guy you're
like well what's going on over here you're like oh everybody has shorts on nobody cares because
there's you know just it's expected and there's a lot of um just that when you're dating when
you're hanging out with people there's not as many uh like crude jokes sexual jokes and a lot
of sexual advances you know those types of things it's much more calm um you're not i don't have i
ever seen anybody kiss in public that's a great question for myself and i don't i don't think so
i mean you see some people holding hands uh you see that you'll see some people kind of like with
the arm around each other type of thing um but i don't think maybe once or twice i've ever seen
young people even uh kiss a little bit in public it's just not you don't you just don't see it
here at least where i'm at um interesting and just do they do they educate the kids about like
sexual health or sex ed do you think do you know or yeah um i had a translator once and you know
we were having these kinds of conversations and did have a video apparently in school that was
like hey you were not plucked from a mango field it was kind of like hey you don't know that doesn't
happen i mean now look i don't know if big daddy's gonna listen to me on this podcast so hopefully
not but um there was you know the story where you know these these village educate you know
village education is not going to be on the high end and uh sometimes they'll get pregnant 13 16
uh and and the family's okay with it because that's really all they want for their kids in
their life is to you know have a kid and and and move on and sometimes they people know about you
know, condoms and other people, they don't really understand what they're for. A lot of them have
IUDs, you know, cause they only had, you know, the one kid policy. Now it's a two kid policy.
And so now they got 36 year old, 40 year olds, like second kid, let's do it. And so they actually
are having to figure out like, okay, what do we do with all these new moms? You know, there's an
influx of new moms now. Do you feel that these moms are, I'm curious that they're supported by
the community in terms of like, you know, pelvic health. Cause I'm a pelvic health therapist. And
And one of my goals is to get the message out there that, you know, there's antepartum,
prepartum and postpartum help during pregnancy, post-pregnancy, you know,
vaginal pelvic floor work. I can't suppose that that's prevalent where you're from.
Not where I'm at. I mean, I've had a few people have kids. Um, they, you know, you don't guys
aren't allowed to like be in the back when they deliver the baby for, for some reason. And, um,
And so you have the kid and I don't know, you know, that's just that they don't really
talk about like, I don't, hey, did you do Kegel exercises for six weeks after you had
your kid?
I have no idea.
I have no idea.
Nobody talks about it.
I mean, even, you know, sometimes I'll ask my wife, I'm like, hey, y'all ever like talk
about stuff like girl talk?
She's like, not really.
It's like, what?
Really?
She's like, no, we don't really, you know, have those kind of conversations.
It's very private.
Like with that situation, you know, maybe I hope my husband doesn't cheat on me, you
know same kind of those type of questions but as far as you know there's an ob department in our
hospital like we could deliver babies and um you know they'll do a lot of exams but there's not a
lot of um cleanliness for some people so that probably has its own bag of bacteria that you
have to deal with as a doctor sure i can only imagine yeah wow well so then you definitely
don't have, um, you know, topless beaches, right? No, no. Right. Right. But you do see babies with
no diapers. So, so when I was on your show, you interviewed me for your podcast, the doctor's
perspective, and you mentioned babies with no, no diapers. Let's talk about those babies with
no diapers. So I was asking these questions like, what stopped this baby from just pooping all over
your arm and your pants and he just got had a you know he's on a second kid and his kids about
one and a half so he's still pooping and i was like hey what do you do with that and they're
like well the first while you you wear diapers and at night you probably put them in a diaper
but if you're walking around the streets you can train them to just kind of like you can see in
their face so they're they know how to like gesture hey i gotta go and then you just if
you got that the pants that don't have um you know crotchless pants if you will you just lift
their legs and just hold them in like a um a u-shape just right on the street or on the on
the bush or you know off the sidewalk or wherever they just pee real quick or do whatever they got
to do and then you're just moving right along and i was just like i don't i don't think i can do it
because you know you know good and well and then he finally said oh yeah yeah i've been pooped on
All right. I can't imagine that. Okay. This is, I have two dogs of my own and you know,
there's signs everywhere at the parks, please clean up after your dog. Do they have those
signs after please clean up after your kid? Not graphically. Not that I can see. I mean,
there's a no, no, I think, you know, hopefully I would say, I mean, if I had to give a percentage,
let's just be generous 85 of the time like it's in a spot where you wouldn't walk on it
that's courteous yeah i mean like i said 85 of the time you're gonna remember those 15
though you're gonna want to make the whole you know i'm trying not to stereotype an entire
country on the bad a few bad apples that's my that's my job right now um but those stories
are better i was walking down the street just came with just pooping all over the street like
you know that sounds better everybody wants to hear that story but it's very it's not as common
but you do see it okay okay great yeah yeah yeah i mean it's very different from what we're used to
obviously in the states so i think it's good for others to hear about the culture experiences even
if they don't get a chance to travel overseas and visit china it's it's fascinating the differences
and you know you can appreciate cultural ethnicity and and differences so but going on that speaking
of your toileting experience what is your toileting experience like in china you know give us the good
the bad and the ugly well luckily we call them western toilets and squatter toilets so western
is obviously what you'd expect and we have one in my house and we also have a squatter so we've got
two and everywhere's in the hospital is all squatters and just as you can imagine some people
have a good aim and uh some people i don't know what they were doing describe if you can't sorry
i don't mean to interrupt you describe a squatter can you pick can you give us a visual of what the
squatter looks like yeah it's a rectangle think of like a flag that has three bars across
does that make sense yes okay so the outer two bars are where you would stand or you know squat
you know you put your feet there and then you squat down and in the middle it's uh i don't
want to say like a like a hole but it's like a porcelain it's a it's a toilet material and
there's a hole for the pipe and then there's like a little spot that you uh you know that has
like a little bowl kind of area so your pee stays there your poop or whatever and then when you flush
it depending on the kind of toilet you know it has different ways of flushing and cleaning it out and
then it just goes down the pipe but you you just it's like with the woods you just squat down and
and go which and yeah yeah you go for it no i was gonna say like that's the the best position to
pooping i don't know yes the pooping unicorn how could i forget soft serve soft serve that's right
comes out rainbow color i didn't know maybe if you eat dragon fruit um so yeah so so yeah it
makes sense because they're trying to replicate i think that was the backstory they were trying
to replicate a an asian toilet and um it works really well like you use less paper you it just
there's no like uh resistance in a sense like it just it's it's a great process it's a great
process i actually enjoy it oh and let me tell you you know a porta potty yeah i don't know what
y'all call them in wherever you're at yeah like a portable yeah got a festival yeah yeah those
are disgusting for you for me they're just disgusting and in a public place you don't
know how clean something is and so instead of having to put paper on the lid or hover and deal
with that you you just squat and no matter how disgusting it is if there's like if it's an
outdoor style like in a village where there's flies and things and all that crazy stank
you still just like okay i just gotta hold my breath squat down and i'm done i don't have to
touch anything right but it's gross it's gross i mean there's fly you know the smell is that's all
it is it's a big old cistern that you're doing it on and uh but otherwise you know you flush it and
they get dirty you know it depends on how much you clean them just like anything else you'll
have like the stains and stain upon stain after a couple of months of not cleaning it very well so
you know they can get pretty ugly i can imagine i was my husband and i were in italy somewhere and
there we were at a train station and i wanted to use the bathroom like real bad and i've never
experience in europe usually they have western toilets right so at this train station i think
it was near florence somewhere i go to the bathroom i walk in i damn near walked out like
i couldn't even get out faster than my legs could could carry me because seriously the poop was like
over the over the the cutout like it was it was like a mound like no one cleaned that and i was
i was not about to squat over that because my ass would certainly touch whatever was coming growing
out of there it was a bad day yes it was i was like nope i think i'm gonna hold it i don't need
to go that bad it's all good but you know it comes with the territory it's a public toilet and
a camping 101 on that is just pull your pants half down your thigh don't go to your ankles
just half thigh and you're good perfect clearance no worries right right my buddy said he goes the
first time i used one he goes i was ready and everything ready to go peed right in my pants
they were too low oh no you had to go home and change oh no the aim oh my goodness yeah no that
happened i mean that happens true stories right real life events but uh you gotta do what you
gotta do and i always tell my the ladies that i work with uh not to hover over a toilet seat
because that'll that's what they'll do and they'll end up you know sprinkling all over on the toilet
seat and the next woman that goes into the stall is like oh my god i gotta wipe the seat down
because i actually want to sit i heard y'all are pretty horrible actually like yes yes women's
public bathrooms are pretty bad i've heard they are and literally and research has proven that
our bathrooms are dirtier than men's they have done swab testing cultural swab testing and they
have proven that because one we spend more time in the bathroom where you guys just in and out
we're done we spend more time in the bathroom and we actually have to touch a lot more things like
the sanitary napkin dispenser and you know we make up and facial all this stuff in the bathroom so
anyway your sanitary story yeah i'd love to hear a sanitary story so there was this time i was no
So actually, I was I was noticing I went to the big city and I went to a hostel and was hanging out with somebody and she was going to bring back a couple of pad containers for her friends.
And I was like, well, that's an interesting gift to give.
And she said it's because the price was really cheap.
So, she wanted to buy these pads because they're cheaper here than in her country.
And I was like, why don't y'all, I was like, y'all don't use like, you know, tampons?
She's like, no.
I was like, really?
No.
I was like, okay.
And you look around and there's not any.
It's all pads.
You know, different sizes for nighttime and all this other stuff.
But that's all they have here.
And I was really quite surprised.
and the the thought if you see their face like oh yeah describe that to somebody the horror in
their face is like you are the most disgusting person ever that you would do that for describing
it or for talking about it like yeah like you would actually use a tampon like that is disgusting
oh like that whole concept yeah the whole concept of that would just be disgusting like why would
you not just use this little diaper right are there pads are they disposable are they reusable
oh come on well i'm just wondering because we have they have reusable pads here where you can
wash them i worked at a naturopath and she sewed one that was kind of like a supernatural catch it
in a cup and i was like no no no she's like yeah it's pretty messy it's a learning curve yeah they
call it like the diva cup a menstrual cup yep that's what it was yeah i'm gonna go with no they
uh they they just throw them away every time got it oh my gosh well that is quite that is a funny
story i do have a guy story outside of my office on the wall in the hall there's a big picture of
a banana and the pills halfway down to his ankle and he's covering himself and um off to the side
And you're like, oh, it's like adult vasectomy, not vasectomies, circumcision.
And there's like the little tool.
So it kind of shows you like, if you want one, you can get one here.
So it's a commodity there.
It's actually sought after, you think?
No, I'm just thinking if they, if, you know, if you wanted it, if you thought about it,
if you had a medical reason to have it, they're letting you know that you could do it.
but generally they don't circumcise their, their babies. Correct. Correct.
I've, I talked to somebody and I was shocked that he had this opinion that he's
like, no, if I had a boy, I wouldn't circumcise. I'm like, what are you?
And he was an American. I was like, what are you talking about? And, um,
is there like a controversy on that these days?
There is, there is a huge controversy to circumcise or not to circumcise.
And you know, it's really cultural based. Like in the States, they,
the circumcision came about because back in yeah you know the 1800s 1900s it was it was thought
that masturbation was very bad for you and in order to prevent that they would circumcise the
little boys you know thinking that if they were circumcised it would prevent them from masturbating
yes yes i thought it was from judo christian days from from judo christian days yeah it's in the
Iowa like eight day Jews were circumcised I thought that was just like it just carried over to all of
Christianity from then on obviously I've not looked into this at all it it may have but the
there's a book called out in the open and it's a it's a male pelvic uh like health book written
by a rolfer um and a guy who has who's got his PhD I can't remember his name off the top of my
head right now but he writes the history of circumcision in there for the states but they've
really promoted i mean i don't again i'm not sure like the complete origination but they were
promoting it in the 1800s 1900s because they were trying they thought sex you know touching yourself
and sex was bad and masturbating is the devil right so they so they promoted circumcision
they were saying no our boys have to be circumcised and then it was the the argument of well it's for
hygiene purposes but currently there's nothing in the literature to support yes or no that
it's more hygienic to be circumcised than not circumcised it's just preference and some
countries like i believe they're like portugal or spain um have outlawed circumcision like
they just don't do it i know europe europe it's not very common european men are not circumcised
yeah our hospital is not overrun like my little apartment has chiropractic acupuncture and a
basic surgery. Oh, I cut my finger or I've just got like this belly pain. I don't know what to
do with it. I don't see people like doing any penis gestures or I hurt down here. I've got
an infection. What do I do? Like, I don't really actually see any of that. Very interesting. And
don't quote me on all those facts, but I just know that it was a reason that that was not totally
valid. It was just hearsay. Stop masturbating. It's bad for you. It's the devil. So let's
circumcise you let's expose it more let's yeah let's expose it more and yeah cut off your nerve
endings but it anyway that is very controversial speaking of that yeah how how open is the topic
of men's health overseas like what do you what do you see more of or less of and what do you think
is lacking and well a guy a acquaintance sent my wife a a scrotum pick which at first you know
obviously my reaction is that's not cool not cool bro um and then it was because he had i don't know
he had i don't know if it's an infection or like something weird i don't even remember i was just
like dude that's not my thing but he was too shy to go to the doctor first so he's like let me just
get this guy's opinion and then we were like dude we don't know what that is but obviously you should
see a doctor and then he couldn't really afford the care so we loaned him the money to get it
taken care of because he's like I can't really tell my parents about it so I was like all right
Well, I guess was it more of a fear of talking to his parents?
Cause it seems like then it wouldn't, it's not common to be like, Hey mom and dad, something's
wrong with my, my scrotum.
Can you check it out?
I mean, right.
If I was 22, I would probably still not want to be like, Hey mom, uh, there's an issue,
but no, I don't, you don't hear a lot about it at all.
Like you might hear, you know, burping and farting is not a, you know, we see, we see,
we hear that all the time.
That's not a problem, but you don't really hear much about it.
I mean, my boss one time said, I was like, oh man, I wish this place had a gym before
they had a gym.
He said, what do you need a gym for?
Just go have more sex.
Okay.
That's what they told you?
That's what he told me.
I was like, all right then.
So there's some value to sexual activities.
That's all the exercise you're getting though.
Sexercise.
We call it sexercise.
That's right.
well then in your opinion do you think that the men's attitudes towards sexuality and their
sexual health is any different from our culture in the states i mean not really i mean you know
if a guy found a willing participant it'd probably be on
that's usually the the stopping factor for most guys is willing participants you know but not all
of them like i talked to just a couple of guys they're like uh college age and i was asking
him about like you dating anybody and he's like well you know I'm about I don't know 23 he's like
it's I'm getting older or 25 whatever he's like I'm getting older the girls are getting older
you know I can't be marrying somebody who's like 27 and if she's a if she's not a virgin it's a
it's a game killer I was like what really yeah he's like yeah definitely I was like wow all right
I guess yeah you better get on it you know so there's definitely those types of people that
are waiting for that and want that. And like I said, there's the other half that are 15 and
pregnant. Right, right. So being a chiropractor working with your patients, I'm always curious
to find out how common it is for your patients or for you to bring up topics like sex and sexual
issues, especially if they're coming in with low back pain or pelvic pain or something like that.
I mean, I don't know if it's very common in your practice to see those things.
Well, yeah, that's like top, that's the top thing we see.
But we don't, nobody really discusses that when they, they'll just say, I can't bend over.
I can't lay down.
It hurts the farm.
You know, all, you know, the standard activities of living when you have low back pain that you can't do.
They don't usually mention that.
once or twice we might have heard somebody and they always say it and i guess probably most guys
would say like a joke anyway to like make it not so awkward they'll just so uh can i start having
sex again yet you're like uh probably not man you've been here two visits you know you still
got a good amount of pain why don't you just hold off so you're not talking about sex positions with
these men oh my god optimizing their sexual positions maybe modifying no that's not in your
14 we gotta have it we gotta talk to one guy he he had a conversation i had a conversation with
him and he was talking and his his lady was right next to him and i was just messing with him was
like oh man y'all y'all try any different things and he goes nope i'm on top every time i was like
what he goes i like to be in control i was like all right okay so nope i guess she doesn't have
an opinion or i don't know wow well you could be controlled from behind too i'm sorry am i making
you blush right now no good i mean that's what kind of those comments that i was i was like so
she's never on top okay all right that's what you're you know that's your game plan and she
doesn't have any issues i guess you know i don't know if they have those kind of conversations and
that's something that i was asking in my wife sometimes like do y'all ever you know have those
Girl talks, you know, like girl talks.
They'll never know if you talk about it.
I'm trying to get the gossip.
Right, right.
But she's like, no, they never ask.
I was like, really?
Because I'm the only one that's married.
You know, you're married to a laowai, a foreigner.
Surely they got questions.
They want to see that hybrid baby.
They don't want to probably babysit it, but they want to see what one looks like.
That's right.
We're all curious, right?
Yeah.
I'm like, can we just have a picture program?
And just like, look, that's what it would look like.
98% accuracy.
you can put your curiosities aside that's right we'll print it out for you we'll print it out for
you post it everywhere you should oh my god the first hybrid baby
the hybrid baby we're moving away from hybrid babies but i'm because again i'm a pelvic
therapist and i'm always curious to what what what are your go-to treatments for
you know low back pain or pelvic pain for example and again i'm not sure how frequent you have
clients your patients coming into your office complaining of pelvic pain yeah which is which
it could be like groin pain or testicular pain i don't know you mentioned we were chatting last
time you know testicular pain you've you've dealt with that with some of your clients so what what
do you recommend yeah so one of my craziest patient one time was uh vulvodynia and i was just
like huh i know these words i was like but i don't really know what to do with this um and so i was
like all right just think all right guys l1 l2 that's kind of an area if they have testicular
pain you know from um embryology it all kind of forms from the same area and everything so i was
like let's work on that area obviously do some l5 and some sacral work and just kind of you know
see what happens well she flared up so i didn't see her for like a long time but she ended up
coming back and she found some medicine that actually helped but generally speaking we you
know we do adjustments all the time manipulations grade five whatever you want to call them
that's our bread and butter whether using like a table like a drop table to make it faster
or side posture or using an instrument so that you don't have to deal with um you know if they
have a hot low back you know they don't really want to move and they hurt to get on the table
so i can use these instruments and all they have to do is lay there you get the motion back into
the spine it shuts off the you know the the nerve fibers and the pain sensors and all that and
resets everything and um you know the pain starts to go away after a few visits if they have air
you know pain in that area one thing they always are worried about is i'm on my period
can i have treatment oh good question yeah wholeheartedly like yes in fact a lot of women
have less cramps have less issues when they are adjusted just like when you're pregnant you know
30 of them will get back pain you know it's a good it's a good you know manipulation is a really
good option to uh remedy those back pains and could help you know not everybody you know it's
one of those things you can't go around saying you know no more no more uterus pain once a month but
potentially you could see some result and, you know, something resolved and it doesn't hurt as
much. Right. And maybe it doesn't flow as bad. Right. Right. Exactly. Right. And just for the
listeners out there, vulvodynia is pain in the vulva. Multiple causes can lead to why one gets
pain in their vulva, but a lot they're speculating are it's a little neuropathic pain and central
sensitization and all that sort of fun stuff um definitely not permanent and can be remedied
yeah can be remedied in colorado we always had to do um if you want to do sports physicals for
you know kids in school for you know little league you had to do sports physicals and you
had to go to class and the class the guy always made the same joke he's like if you do an internal
hernia check on a female we will not help you in court at all get it yes yeah so you cannot do that
at all ah okay okay so it's not within your scope then too that is definitely not within our scope
go down there literally ah especially not on underage people that would be double double
strike lose your license probably end up in county jail for a while yes i could i could imagine i've
always thought that yeah if that was within the chiropractic scope of practice to do internally
allegedly i can deliver a baby in certain states really what states i mean curious it used to be
maybe wyoming because there's not enough doctors oh okay now i don't know if they make you take
an extra class once you're there because i know somebody was an eye doctor in another state and
And they have to take a class on more laser training to be licensed there.
So I don't know if there's extra classes you have to take.
But let me tell you, the class we had was like a video.
And Justin is by no means delivering any babies anytime soon.
Well, you know your limits, right?
You respect them.
Yeah.
But, you know, I'm not afraid.
Like we had a lady, you know, since we're talking about pelvic health, she had a C-section.
And she had really bad cramps once a month.
and kind of that fibromyalgia, gluten intolerant kind of thing.
And so I was trying to get to the bottom of it.
Things were getting better, and she was on her period,
and she was talking about how uncomfortable it was.
And I asked her, like, have you had a C-section?
She's like, yeah, I have.
I was like, do you ever get any catches or issues in that area?
And she's like, actually, I do.
I was like, okay.
I was like, if you're comfortable with it,
I can use some myofascial tools and work on some of the scar tissue
and some, you know, all that area and see if, see if it helps. And she's like, yeah, that's fine
with me. And so three, four visits later, she's like, yeah, that doesn't, I don't have that issue
anymore when I'm running. So, uh, we did it and obviously she didn't get naked or anything.
She didn't get naked. We just dropped the pans down low enough, kept it professional. And, um,
like I said, she got great results. So I was excited about it. She was excited about it. And
one more skill to let somebody else know next time that hey there's options available absolutely
c-section scars are like icebergs you know you only see the scar incision now they're super tiny
on the surface but they go pretty deep and can seriously limit uterine mobility and
fallopian tubes and bladder and it kind of adheres to the abdominal wall so
if you're a big keloidy type person that doesn't i don't think that's uh just on the outside like
that's probably something on the inside that could happen too right yeah absolutely it's all connected
right doc exactly it's all connected so speaking of you know pain sexual
conversations and topics in your opinion what if any do you think needs to what needs to change or
what needs to happen in order to change the conversation about talking about our private
parts in sexual health i think you almost have to get your maybe i don't know get your parents
out of the conversation they have to be in the conversation obviously but i always go back to
you know with the with politics the way it is and you know cutting medicare benefits cutting medicaid
and all this kind of stuff we start saying okay well what do you do with all these you know the
poor people who have kids or like four kids why do they have four kids to begin with what's the
problem with that. Have they never heard of free condoms and free birth control? And, you know,
okay, we don't want to have abortions. Okay, well, then what is the other option? Okay,
they, you know, there's all these different avenues. And it's like talking to my buddy
about it. It's like, it's educating, whether it's commercials or maybe at school, they have more
like a class that's dedicated to, you know, this is how you get pregnant. This is how you not get
pregnant and just not being shy about it. Use the big words if you need to and just have the
conversation. That way you know this is how it works. This is the consequences when you have a
kid at like 15, you know, for the rest of your life. And just having these hard conversations,
that way maybe, you know, if you're anti-abortion, then you got to have these conversations so that
they're educated to not do these things otherwise you know you can't have it both ways you know you
got to have these hard conversations to avoid certain things and then if you don't care you
know if you're bored or not you know then there's still like okay you can't afford three kids so
what do you do about that you know how do you the government can't just be like all right you get
one free kid and then force sterilization until you get off welfare then then you can start having
more children. You know, obviously the government can't do that. So that's kind of where when I look
at like public health, pelvic health in a rural world setting that's beyond just for me, like
pain and symptoms, that's kind of where my mind goes more, I guess, on a political front.
Right. Totally. And I like how you said just opening up the conversation and educating because
education as power and starting with this generation and getting the word out there
to spread the message, to change the way future generations speak to their children and to their
children and so forth and so on. Right. So being, being the change right now is what's going to have
a trickling effect. Cause there's always a cause and effect, right? We always got a cause and effect.
So I think that's awesome.
I don't think.
Sorry.
No, go ahead.
I don't know if I've met anyone who said, oh, man, I got pregnant.
And you're like, oh, dude, are you happy about it?
He's like, not really.
OK.
Oh, you mean you didn't use a condom?
Well, that was, you know, every now and then at one time.
Like, yeah, there you go.
I don't hear about it.
You chose not to use it.
And that's what happens.
Like consistently.
like it happens so often that it's like the girls the guys everybody's gotta be prepared like
teaching the girl like hey you gotta be prepared because the guy's probably not gonna
and then sometimes the sometimes the guy's like no i want to use it and the girl's like
hey i'm on birth control we've been together for a year i just and you're like no i think
we should probably still use it yeah well birth controls and protect against stds
you know what i'm saying it doesn't so you're right i mean are you cheating on me right exactly
exactly like the conversation has to be there and i like how you say like the woman and the
and the guy and the girl have to be prepared and ladies you can carry condoms in your wall in your
purses you know pick the one you like to use it's it's it goes both ways and i think empowering
both the female and the male to take control of their health and empowering them to make
sound decisions is is key here so i'm glad you brought that up that's great because the only
education i got when i grew up was uh robert crown do you remember this at all maybe you do
maybe you do maybe you don't robert crown center education where they kind of take you in in grade
school i was i think i was in sixth seventh grade and they take you into this like center where they
where they give you like the birds and the bees talk and then they talk about girls that girls
get their periods we were excused all all the guy all the girls went to the gym and all the guys
were just like what's going on in there no way so it was only for the girls yeah i don't oh my
goodness i don't think outside of just figuring it out you know my parents finally had a conversation
with me but i mean at that point you kind of wait you're gonna that is way too late i mean these
days kids are like addicted to porn at 14 having sex blow jobs all this crazy stuff i guess that
would be a public service announcement hey girls don't give dudes blow jobs when you're freaking
13 years old it's just not necessary like yeah guys stop asking teach your kids to have a little
more respect for themselves and for their girl like you're 14 get calm down right they're growing
up too fast and and you're and you're right it's what they're seeing on social media and
what the role models are looking like now, you know, you got Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift and
who knows, I don't keep up with those things. I'm sure there's other new ones popping up, but
it's kind of scary to see the way things are moving in American culture anyway. I know it's
just from my own traveling experience and yours, I'm sure you can chime in too. I think it's very
different in other parts of the world where our priorities are different, bottom line, you know,
Yeah. I think, you know, here, like I said, it's, it's a little bit more reserved and it's kind of
nice to not just always have sex blown in your face at all times. Like everything is sexualized.
It's not like that here. And it's really nice to just get a break from it.
Exactly. Right. There's a, there's a balance, you know, being educated, being knowledgeable
about your body. If something does come up or if you have questions, you know, not being reserved,
but asking and being, and being a lifelong learner, just like yourself and myself,
We're always learning and we're always exploring, but we're using that knowledge to enhance our lives instead of, you know, going the opposite direction.
So hopefully I can get crazy.
Shit can get crazy.
So thanks for sharing some light on that and your experiences.
I know you're working on a new book.
That's very exciting.
Yes.
Tell us what it's all about.
Come on.
We're dying to know.
All right. So earlier this year, actually on St. Paddy's Day, I released Today's Choice is Tomorrow's Health, Small Steps to Improve Health, Food Choices, and Exercising.
And it's my personal 25-pound weight loss tips and tricks from China, going from a couch potato to being able to do 30 minutes on an elliptical machine, learning how to bodybuild a little bit, learning how to lose weight, how to pick food better, all those types of things.
and then over the last couple of months i was never really finished with the book but i just
was like i want to get this out here and and start so now i'm going to version 2.0 it's going to have
like budgeting and uh optimal calorie calculator fasting it's going to have uh yeah it's going to
probably another 140 pages when it's all formatted probably it's a huge part of like budgeting and
finance because i think those are things i'm passionate about like i could talk to my some
of my buddies about money a long time and i enjoy it and i'm doing all this you know facebook
marketing and trying to like create funnels for me to buy this book and the um the second book
that i've i'm finished but i need to finish editing in it type of thing is needleless acupuncture
and so it'll be 36 wait a second needleless acupuncture yeah i'm not sure if needleless
is a word so you know i need to double check the title of this book but it's a no needle
acupuncture 36 conditions things that i've picked up around here so that you can do it at your house
because like look not every place has an acupuncturist and you might be scared of needles
so it's going to give you an option and uh it's look it's not going to be super polished it's not
going to be mcgraw hill quality book okay it's gonna be quality come on doc it's gonna be quality
look it's gonna be a good quality it's gonna be a nice price uh but it's you know when you look at
the pictures. I've definitely did it myself. I'm not, I'm not going to pay somebody thousands and
thousands of dollars to do it. You know, books, sometimes it's all about becoming the authority
because you wrote the book. Sometimes it's just a big business card, but I think people actually
could get big benefits from this book. It's just, you know, I don't expect necessarily to sell
20,000 copies and, and, and have a Harry Potter following. So I got to keep the cost down
somewhere so i made i like i like doing graphics i have the pictures i plan to maybe do some videos
and uh make it even easier to find the points um very cool can you briefly kind of just for my own
i really am curious how does needle needleless acupuncture what does it look like
you can do what i'm what i'm promoting is the ear beads or ear seeds if you amazon that oh i've had
those yeah so using those in different areas and just wearing them for like an hour or something
dude i love them they helped with my sinuses i had a bunch in my ear yeah so yeah it's just
it's about stimulating because here it like american chiropractic trained acupuncturists
they only go like a few millimeters deep but here oh oh you got a piriformis syndrome issue
you're getting a two and a half inch needle in your butt no way oh yeah down the hatch
i just clenched my ass right now very tightly because that was like oh i don't know if i could
in the neck i mean obviously not as deep in the neck but like you could still go pretty deep in
uh in the suboccipitals okay all right all right so i had one i had a headache and the guy
we had we were at a new hospital we were we're seeing what they do because they had some kind
of like special thing and um i was getting a headache so i was like okay this guy's supposed
to be an expert let's do acupuncture he stabbed me right in between the the web of my hand and a
couple of spots around my fingers and i have a nice artery in the middle of my web because of
all the adjusting that i do so it needs you know my hands are strong right there anyway so it was
thumping and moving with my pulse. And then he put the moxa on top, which is burned. And that
takes 20 minutes. I was like, all right, all right. You can do it once. I can't move. I'm
freaking out. I'm not happy. They take it off and they do it three more times. I was sitting there
for an hour. I was like, oh my gosh, I am not happy right now. And I don't want to be insulted,
but I'm tired of these needles being in me. And they're warm because he's burning that stuff and
it stinks so that was uh about the end of my love affair with the needles but i mean but they work i
mean it's not really once they're in there you don't really notice them right to be honest unless
it's a really painful spot like if you got a lot of issues they get stabbed in the office and you
hear them wincing and and we just kind of look and we kind of everybody's kind of laughing at
them like the patients laugh it's an open room and uh so everybody kind of giggles at the person
that winces a whole lot which is horrible oh that one hurt but they keep coming back for more
that's it man seven or eight more times that's right it's got to be working somehow right
yeah nice nice yeah that's that's what i got cooking in the pot cool thanks dr justin well
okay i have since we're all about what's going on in your pants i've got one more final question
that i'm starting to ask everyone so please don't be shy it's just to open up the conversation
what's one question you've always wanted to ask a professional regarding your nether regions
but been too shy to ask if any you know i thought about this question for a little while
and i thought maybe i answered uh i asked it a little earlier in this interview and i was
going to get a pass on this one but here it comes what is the deal this isn't a very medical
question is it okay if it's not very medical sure all right it's an aesthetic there's all these
rules for women shave it off definitely not natural or you know the little line or whatever
that was called back two years ago yeah the landing strip was popular i love how there's
always this double standard like what are guys are guys supposed to mow the lawn or we do we
have to have patterns we need some question marks in there like what are we supposed to do
well what do you think you're supposed to do hey i'm a fan of mow the lawn but
i don't know what uh what is the general rule these days and that is a question i think it's
a i think it's a legitimate question that normally would never be asked and i think it would be
other partners preference if you were you know that would be my thought but that's an awesome
question and honestly we didn't plan this listeners but I have a I have a podcast I just
did about ladiescaping and manscaping really with the with a colleague of mine Mari Zanstra so
you'll have to stay tuned for that one to get your question answered but on no it is a tease
that's a good long story short pubic hair is there for a reason you know trim it but it's it's
protective and so we in the pelvic health world we like to go on that all natural if you catch my
drift not a crazy bush you know just like you're landscaping outside i mean we have some bushes
here that need to be trimmed otherwise they get wild you want it manicured but you still want
the purpose of having hair down there it releases lots of good bacteria and assists in healing and
cleansing that area especially for women because it's so close to the vagina and the urethra but
yeah yeah it's all good there it is you know how it's surprising like that's a lot of work to have
a vagina i would think i mean you guys got all kind of special washes and like y'all have so
much stuff i'm just glad i hate to end the interview with that but like i am glad that i
was born a male it just seems like a lot of work you know we make it hard on ourselves to be honest
with you and you know sex sells and marketing especially in the states is geared to sell you
anything you know they'll slap a probiotic label or all natural label on it and holy shit it's the
new best thing. It's, you just gotta be an educated consumer. Most oftentimes, sorry,
most oftentimes you don't need anything to clean down there. It's a self-cleaning oven,
no fancy soaps or detergents, no herbal infusions, no yoni eggs. I mean, you just keep it simple,
keep it clean and it won't give you any trouble and it'll smell great. And your diet makes a
huge difference too, believe it or not. What you put in your body is it's going to change the
bacteria and the flora of the of the vaginal canal so it makes a difference but anyway i didn't mean
to cut you off no no you're good i had two little stories one was a joke and one was real one was a
person i know and she was always team i and she's like oh can't eat tomatoes this week
boyfriend's coming to town come on man we did not need to know that like nobody needed to know that
see that's awesome she knows acidic tomatoes they make her vagina smell not so great and she doesn't
eat them that's it but my joke was you could get like some some uh some jelly down there
with some probiotics and we could sell it like 29.99 two at one personal lubricant with some
bifida and some other fancy words for probiotics yeah lactobacillus yes yeah i mean that's gotta
to be oh well you know we could it's probably already cherry pick some research a cherry pick
exactly we'll make the research work for what we're trying to sell sounds very scientific today
oh my gosh well no they've got all sorts of you know ky is now coming out with you know edible
lubricant and all that sort of thing which isn't the greatest for your body parts either for men
and for women but that's another topic for another day in general or uh no like the type of lubricant
that you buy and i don't want to out any one lubricant it's just looking at the ingredients
is going to be really important because it's it's got all sorts of crap in it you know glycoline
propol and um parabens and you know artificial flavorings and colors and that that just that
just irritates the the vagina and changes the ph of the vagina and also the you put it on the guy
too so it also alters their urethra and their bacteria so it can be quite irritating so just
you know keep it simple coconut oil olive oil and that sort of thing goes a long way and doesn't
harm your tissues yeah yep interesting what about petroleum jelly too thick uh no i don't think so
and it's not super it doesn't absorb it kind of just glides and should be fine yeah i don't think
i've read anything on petroleum jelly but yeah the pure the pure it is the better it is for you
and and textures there's water-based and there's also plant-based so it just depends on your what
you like in terms of texture because some people don't like the texture of a water-based versus a
plant-based but if you're using a plant-based oil or some sort of oil it's not really compatible
for condoms so just be careful oh yeah be careful because lubricant can make a difference yeah
it breaks them down yeah yeah that'd be a bad day that would be a bad friggin day you're right
like this sobering thought right here like oh that'd be a bad day oops yeah so good disclaimer
