You're listening to In Your Pants with Dr. Suzy G, the physiotherapist for your private,
helping you get in the know down below.
Today on the show, Suzy welcomes intimacy coach and inventor of the water slide, Maureen
Pollock.
Maureen believes in removing the stigma surrounding sexual health and personal hygiene, empowering
women in all stages of life to embrace intimacy through coaching and lifestyle products.
All right.
Welcome, Maureen.
Thank you so much for being on my podcast, In Your Pants.
It's awesome to have you on the show.
How are you doing?
I'm doing great.
Thank you so much for having me.
This is awesome.
Oh my gosh.
Well, I know our listeners, especially all the females out there, are going to really
enjoy our talk today.
It's all about orgasms and how to kill two birds with one stone in your bathtub, right?
Yeah, there you go.
You said it.
so Maureen you are the inventor and the CEO of the water slide tell me tell us what kind of
product is the water slide in a nutshell the water slide is a water diverter that you tie to your
bathtub water spout and it redirects the water to land midline of the bathtub so when a woman is in
the tub she can just lay there and either get clean or feel great let's just say oh that's
awesome so yeah you literally are killing two birds with one stone right there you go get ready
or finish whichever way you want oh that's amazing so you know I'm sure we're all curious how did you
come up with this idea um it was a beautiful accident actually when I was 15 I was in the
tub and I went to go sit up and I grabbed on the faucet to help and it popped off and behind the
faucet is a pipe that shoots stray out and the water shot me in the face so I jumped back and
let's just say it hit me somewhere else and I took about three baths a day and till the water ran out
it was it was great you know being 15 not really feeling comfortable to have sex not being able to
buy sex toys yet and just being really frustrated and then having that experience it stuck with me
my whole life. And 15 years later, I was speaking to my OBGYN about hygiene, how chemicals are bad
and the best way to clean is with just water on the outside. And then we moved on to libido after
childbirth. And I had the aha moment where I said, well, what about the bathtub technique where girls
scoot underneath the faucet? And she said that many people enjoy that, but it's hard to put their
legs on the wall or it's uncomfortable. So in passing, I just said, what about a simple water
diverter that redirects the water to you so you don't have to scoot? I left the office not thinking
much of it. Three days later, I get a phone call from her saying that she brought it up in their
meeting with the practice and hands down, they all thought it was a great idea and they wanted
to invest so there you go wow oh my goodness so what was once you know like a fluke thing that
happened when you were 15 and is would you say that that's the that's the time where you kind
of started to explore your sexuality because you're also an intimacy coach correct yes so i
i would say even way earlier i was one of those lucky girls who figured it out at a very early age
I believe I was pre-kindergarten when I was masturbating with, you know, teddy bears or
I didn't know if it was right or wrong.
I just remembered it feeling good.
And it was just something that I did almost daily.
And when I had that water bathtub experience, it was way more intense and easier than anything
that I had done before.
In terms of intimacy coaching, my first course in college was psychology of human sexuality.
And I was so into it.
I'm still in touch with that professor to this day.
He's my mentor.
We speak about once a month.
And I've always been fascinated with it and always been learning about it.
That's just amazing.
I mean, how, so do you, what is your take on how important it is for female sexuality and the ability to just express yourself as a woman freely, transparently in your experience and expertise, I guess I should ask.
um in general i think that when women own their sexuality there's a misconception that you have
to be out there and promiscuous and which is fine if you are but you can still be a conservative
woman who's religious or pta mom but if you're repressing anything inside of yourself or your
desires or just feeling good on a day-to-day basis it comes through in your everyday life
and I believe in health and happiness.
So if I can give somebody a tool that makes them comfortable,
then I'm going to promote it every day of the week.
And in fact, I actually purposely don't put on my website
anything that's pornographic
or can make even the most reserved woman feel uncomfortable.
I feel that everybody should have it and have access to it.
That's great.
That was going to be my next question.
you do keep a very low profile about the sexual nature of your product and I think
you know in my profession I work with a lot of women who have pelvic pain or vaginismus or
vulvodynia or even have trauma you know sexual trauma in their past so you know the the fact
of inserting something into the vagina can be quite scary for a lot of these women and to have
a product that's available for that will stimulate and also you know kind of have that exploration of
feeling comfortable and having pleasure in a safe environment i think that's wonderful and
there's really not much there's really nothing out there comparable to your product that you've
created so really really great that makes me so happy you have no idea um if i could help just
one woman for any of those issues or even women who don't have issues my job's done
i'm that makes me so happy oh of course and we're all very happy that you you know again had the
courage to a explore your sexuality at such a young age and be to be very open and vocal with
your ob-gyn right and tell her like well what if this was available right because a lot of us shy
away from just talking about our genitals and sexual health and sex in general that um wonderful
ideas such as yours are usually repressed um so thank you so much it has been scary at some points
especially in the beginning to get out there and talk about it, but it's for a good cause
and I'm getting used to it. Oh, that's awesome. Oh, I love it. So you, so you and your company
have, uh, it has developed into more than just selling the water slide. Can you share more
about the other products? Sure. So along the way I've teamed up with other women who have similar
reviews or I find products that are also body safe and just people send me products here and
there. And when I enjoy them and I like them and I believe in their mission, I say, why not? I have
started having to offer a page where people could buy products that I find and that I approve of.
So there's only so many water slides I could sell to one woman because she buys them for herself
and then her sister and then her friend. And then a lot of times women will come back and ask me
follow-up questions like what do I do for this or for different needs and I just recommend them to
people and it got to the point where people started saying can you buy it for me I don't feel
comfortable let's say going on another website to purchase it or going into a store so it was kind
of a no-brainer for me just to start carrying other people's products that are awesome and an
example of some of my favorites are the Vespa by Love Crave it's a necklace that you wear that
is very benign but a very powerful great vibrator bullet that you use externally and it's made out
of stainless steel and there's even i think 24 karat gold and that that one's a big seller it's
great and another one is the womanizer are you familiar with the womanizer have you heard about
them yet no please do tell let's talk about new technology for a minute and i may not do them
justice, but they're so awesome. The Womanizer is a product that pretty much encompasses your
clitoris and creates a suction type seal. And then it uses these pulse technology that is not
vibration and different frequencies are for different women. So you may like a duller
sensation or a sharper one, and it solely focuses on the nerve endings of your clitoris without
desensitizing them so i won't say other brands because i don't want to bash anybody but there's
other brands out there that are just high powered vibrators that women start to not be able to feel
things anymore and then the womanizer and the water slide both don't desensitize the nerve
endings and help bring people back to having natural sensations with their partners so those
are just a couple oh oh and there's one more that i'm mad go for it go for it okay okay so um i
started carrying condoms for women. They're male based condoms that go over the shaft,
but they're marketed towards women. There's a company called lovability and they're pretty
much feminists who carry condoms and give women the power to carry their own condoms. And I
haven't seen another company that markets towards women in the sense of own your own power, babe
with the power. They're body safe. The lubes on them are organic. And I've noticed a lot of women
say they use condoms and get UTIs or they're nervous if a man even has a condom. And if it's
body safe, why do you have to depend on a man for a condom? Why don't you have one if you feel like
you may need one? So even though I don't personally use them, I love the fact that I offer them to
women that could use them. So Maureen, I'm so glad that you mentioned the condoms and giving women
the power to, and the comfort to say, Hey, I want to be responsible for what goes, what goes in my
vagina. So why not, you know, empower them to carry condoms. And secondly, as a therapist who
sees women who have frequent UTIs and yeast infections, you know, FDA laws are not required
to show the ingredients of a condom.
So the fact that the lovability condoms
have organic lubricant on them
really is hopeful for a lot of these women
that suffer with chronic UTIs, yeast infections,
or bacterial vaginosis.
So I think it's important to know
what you're putting in your body,
just like lubricant, right?
So talking about lubricants, Maureen,
because you mentioned that you really like
body-safe products, and as an intimacy coach,
what type of lubricants would you recommend to our listeners?
Yes. So I have found a hidden gem made by a woman in LA. It's called sex butter and or boudoir
butter. She makes two different kinds and they are the creme de la creme, let's say of lubricants.
They come in a jar and the consistency is kind of like a chapstick that you have to rub a little
bit to melt. And people use it not just for intercourse, but as moisturizer, whether you're
going through hormonal changes or any issues, or even if you just would like it to feel good when
you walk around. Sex butter is phenomenal. And one little jar can last a long time. And I really
can't, I guess, promote them enough. I'm obsessed. Sex butter is my favorite sexual condiment ever.
sexual condiment I love that's awesome so do you know what the ingredients like just for the
listeners and for myself like what's in it sex butter has all natural ingredients and they're
organic and I believe it's a blend of shea butter cocoa butter coconut oil jojoba oil
grapeseed oil and peppermint oil and even though there's the peppermint oil in there I never once
felt that it was too tingly or like a burning sensation that I've had with other lubricants
that have peppermint oil. It kind of smells like an Annie's mint candy. It's phenomenal.
So it's just very refreshing and feels good. And yeah, everybody who's purchased it or used it
has all come back to me and said, it's amazing. That's great. And I'm sure it tastes good.
i don't i don't know if your part your your partner spouse has uh commented on the flavor
i have tried it he has tried it and you know how they say that with memory that the sense of smell
is the strongest that links back to memory oh yeah i have i have a problem now because when i
smell like mint chocolate when i'm out and about i yeah it's a problem it gets you going
oh do you smell that that's so great that's and you're right the the limbic system
it's it brings back and that's you know it's a positive pleasure
stimulant um without needing to do much right so associating it with something really positive
that's great that's awesome yeah um i actually wanted to loop back to the um the the pulsating
vibrators that you mentioned um how does it i'm curious do you know how it um it doesn't
desensitize the nerve endings like the other vibrators do do you know what the i believe that
high powered vibrators have been linked to desensitizing nerve endings the vibration just
dulls you know desensitizes it in the terms of it's being overstimulated and when you use the
womanizer and the water slide it kind of has this duller sensation instead of a sharp one you know
when you put a vibrator on your finger how after a while your finger could get numb so it's the
same thing you have so many nerve endings in your clitoris when you put the vibration on it it can
be intense and the orgasms from the water slide and the womanizer are drawn out and it's this
duller, deeper sensation. So I guess I'm not sure exactly how the technology works and why,
but the results have come back that people have used them to help wean people off of vibrators.
Wow. That's awesome. Cause I've always thought that myself with, um, women who use vibrators
intensely, like that can totally alter their experience either with penile vaginal penetration
or using a non-vibrator toy how that can increase the threshold right of the amounts of stimulus
that you need and the roughness right and we all have our own thresholds but if you're training
the nervous system and there's so many nerve endings to the clitoris that that that could
really ultimately change your threshold and then require more and more and more and how how does
that impact your relationships moving forward, right? I don't know, but I can only imagine that
it does change that in some way. Well, the good news is that from what I've read and come across
that the desensitizing the nerve endings is not permanent. So if you hear somebody say,
oh, I've been using a vibrator for so long and I can't feel anything, I'm done. It doesn't take
that long for you to stop using it or wean yourself off of it for your nerve endings to
come back and become sensitive again right oh awesome awesome and how would you so if someone
is doing that like do you ever recommend what would be an ideal weaning off or recommendation
based on your experience so not to promote my own product or anything go for it this is why you're
on the show i'm just saying no i'm not a big person who loves to do that but honestly the
water slide has been amazing for that because we're also trained let's have an orgasm as fast
and quick as possible and be done the water slide takes some i guess some discipline because you
are in the bathtub you have the water flowing it's dull that is a great way to wean yourself
off of vibrators because it can be difficult for women to have an orgasm sometimes just vaginally
most orgasms are external and using the water slide you're getting your body still that
stimulation on the outside yet you're not desensitizing the nerve endings and then I
always try to bring couples together instead of saying oh go masturbate on your own which is great
but starting off at the water slide and having let's say your first orgasm in the bathtub or
even just getting stimulated and then go be with your partner you're more likely to have multiple
orgasms and be more present. That's, that's some great advice right there. I think gifting yourself
time, just like you're saying, being more present in the moment, not having to rush wham, bam,
thank you, ma'am kind of thing. You know, we're taught, you know, your shibbles have an orgasm
right away and men and women, I feel have that expectation where, you know, they get frustrated
when it's not happening right away. And that frustration totally creates a block, you know,
homosexual block. So that is, that's amazing. Bringing back intimacy in the bedroom, right?
Yeah. And decreasing expectations. So that's, that's awesome. Thank you for sharing those.
I think a lot of us, you know, we, we, we kind of rely on word of mouth for products that are
great. And what's the best way to recommend it is just trying it yourself and exploring it with
your body so um go go for it women all you women out there orgasms are healthy and if you're shy
you can always tell yourself that you're using it just to get clean exactly exactly with a little
bit of benefit right um clean never felt so good that's right that's right so speaking of um
intimacy in the bedroom what is one of the techniques that you would advise your clients
on how to boost their intimacy with their partner?
Ah, that's a good one.
So this may sound counterintuitive,
and it's something that I've adopted
from religious studies, actually.
There's a practice in Judaism called Nida,
the laws of Nida,
and it's pretty much separating through touch
and intimacy in terms of bodily touch.
You could still be intimate
by having conversations or eye contact,
but the physical aspects you refrain from touching each other for a given amount of time and if
somebody's telling me that they're having a lull in their relationship there's lots of factors that
could come into play but one thing I say is try for one week just both you have to be on board
and you both have to know it and it can't come from a place of anger but say we're not going to
touch each other for one week we're going to refrain from stimulation passing something in
your hand, touching each other as you walk by. And the idea of when you're consciously not
touching each other, your body starts to want what it can't have. And by day four, people have
reported that, oh my God, my husband walked by me and the wind that he created as he walked by
aroused me. Or a husband, I had a fantasy. I dreamt that I was with my wife of 30 years. I
haven't had an erotic dream about her and God knows how long little things start to come back
just from the idea of we're not going to no matter what. And then if you break that rule and you by
accidentally can't keep your hands off each other, oops, it's a wonderful win. And when you do hold
out for the week and you decide you finally have your night together, it can be incredibly
passionate and intimate and amazing what is there so for a woman is there a specific time frame
that would work best to do this and you know in terms of what is someone's menstrual cycle
yeah so in the actual laws of NIDA it's longer than a week so they say when a woman starts
menstruating to when you're done menstruating you have a cloth and you check yourself to make sure
you don't have any blood and after seven clean days is what they call it that's when you actually
go submerge yourself in water and clean yourself from head to toe and you guys have to be together
so it ends up being about a 12 day on average for most women and when you start menstruating
your hormones probably don't really want or need to be together let's say and after you're done
for seven days that's when your body starts to most people unless you're you've gone through
menopause that's when you're actually becoming a little bit more interested anyway so you combine
all that together and it creates a perfect storm that is that's amazing and so so just to make this
clear they are not there's no hand holding there's no hugging cuddling you know when they're sleeping
in bed they're completely on opposite ends of the bed or separate beds if you want to go the real
way. Oh, wow. People who practice this on their lifestyle, they actually have separate beds.
You do things that you don't want to turn the other person on. So you won't walk around the
house in sexy lingerie and then say, oh, you can't have this. It really, it creates a moment
to another part of, let's say you're fighting or you're just being together on a day-to-day basis.
it's not based around sex so you actually become more intimate and close when you learn how to
connect with each other without the sexual component that that just makes so much sense
like you you have to find other ways to communicate to connect both with you know verbal body language
right that's amazing i'm gonna have to try this it's amazing yeah the laws of nita so it's a
In the intro, I tell people, maybe start when you have your period and just say for seven
days, you're not going to touch each other.
Start with that.
See if you could do it.
And so day one of your period.
Yeah, day one of your period.
And both people, I really can't stress this enough.
Both people have to be on board and understand what's going on.
Because then if you're not on board, I would hate to see any resentment or from a negative
place.
This is a place to build intimacy, not disconnect from each other.
right oh wow that's amazing and so and they're obviously I'm assuming that there's no
self-pleasure involved in those seven days so parties the irony here is that it's for men
they should not self-pleasure for women it's totally fine what wait explain this a little
bit because well you know I have both men and women listen to my show so elaborate on that
thought. Okay. Men don't hate me. Just trust me. Women, you are so welcome. So I don't have
any scientific backing on this. This is purely my theory. When men masturbate, I feel that they've
released their sexual energy and it's done. When a woman masturbates, it gets the engines revving
and we're ready for more the more you use it the more likely you are to want it so when a woman
masturbates she could have multiple orgasms and it doesn't mean you're done if a man has an orgasm
at least for that day or for some men the next few hours we've all witnessed that it's like okay
i'm done if a woman could go and masturbate five times in an hour and then come be with their
partner and have five more orgasms yes possible and there's people who it happens to so in terms
of not touching each other and masturbating when a woman does it it's really just building up and
building up until he's finally inside of you so i i would never tell a woman not to masturbate
well and i totally agree with you just from personal experience again no scientific evidence
that I have to break the table by any means but just my own anecdotal evidence which is evidence
enough right I mean it's your own experience and how you experience life is so important but um
yeah I I have the same experience that you just described like I can I the more that I do self
pleasure myself the more that I kind of want to have sex and be with my with my husband and I want
it more versus like you know like you said if he masturbates he's good for the he's good for
the entire day he's just like whatever right don't put the fire out right right we build that's
amazing so that's wonderful well I have one more question I'm sorry I'm like thank you so much for
your time but so the the clitoral so the clitoris the nerve endings I've read I've read in several
books that it's the left side of the clitoris this is true that there's one side versus another
that is that you can stimulate that has more sensory input or stimulation that you feel is
that is that true do you know i have not come across it but i'm definitely going to look into
it i know that it has double the amount of nerve endings as the tip of the penis and there's no
other anatomy purpose for the clitoris besides pleasure so the left side versus the right side
i guess i have to do some research which is always fun yeah and honestly i've i the recent
book that i read was mama gina's pussy uh proclamation or reclamation i think it's called
and she mentions it um she mentions it in there saying that so they found that on the clitoris
which is the whole like region the left side versus the right side um i want to say it was
the clitoris but i'm not 100 sure so i'd have to take a look at the at the chapter where she
mentions it but it's just interesting because i can feel yeah i mean it's like i can feel the
difference versus like even when i'm pleasuring myself it's like oh one side feels more involved
or more stimulated than the other side so i'm just curious i'm sure we're all made differently
we are yeah and people like different things some people can't handle external stimulation or
actually dislike it some people prefer other areas but yeah i want to find out now about
left side versus right side oh nice so yes do your research and we'll have you back on
and we have to do a study actually about male masturbation and female masturbation
right on count me in it's a fun study
it's awesome great so maureen thank you so much for your time i mean it was such an awesome
conversation with you um ladies and gentlemen please please check out her product the water
slide spelled s-l-y-d-e it is a phenomenal product and i'm speaking from experience and a bunch of
