Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey, sorry to freak you out. This is not a normal episode. No. But. We're here to talk about one of our favorite podcasts. Yeah. Favorite comedy podcast. Because we're allowed to like podcasts, too.
Starting point is 00:00:14 Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So, yeah. So, we want to talk about another podcast that's very near and dear to our hearts here at Conan. And it's Never Not Funny with Jimmy Pardo. The great, great, hilarious Jimmy Pardo. Oh, so funny. He is so funny. Every time I listen to that podcast, I laugh out loud.
Starting point is 00:00:31 He's truly never not funny. Yes. It's the most accurately named podcast out there. Jimmy worked with us at Conan for many years. Yep. He's beloved here. Yes, we all love him here. And when he comes back to visit, the entire building lights up. He's beloved here. Yes, we all love him here. And when he comes back to visit, the entire building lights up.
Starting point is 00:00:49 He's like a human light bulb. He goes in and everyone's in a better mood after he literally works the building like a politician. I know. He warms up the building like he used to do for our audience. And then we're like, how do we vote for him? What do you mean he's not running for office? But he's great. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:07 And his podcast, Never Not Funny, is the true OG of comedy podcasts. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I didn't realize this. In 2006, so it was one of the first comedy podcasts ever. I was in third grade. And it's been listed as a best of iTunes show many times over. Many times over is true. And he has amazing guests on that show.
Starting point is 00:01:29 He's had John Mulaney, Maria Bamford, Tig Notaro, Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, and then just big stars, you know, from beyond the world of comedy as well. Like people who were Keira Conan. That's right. Such as Laurie Kilmartin, Todd Levin, Matt Gourley. And wait, were you on it? I was on it. I was on it twice. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:52 Oh, my God. That's when I fell in love. Way to bury the lead. With the medium. They've never asked me back. And yeah, and of course, Conan O'Brien himself. Maybe you've heard of him. He's been on there a few times.
Starting point is 00:02:05 John Hamm's been on there. Oh times. Jon Hamm's been on there. Oh, that's right. Oh, yeah. No, isn't Jimmy Pardo actually close friends with Jon Hamm, isn't he? Yes, they're pals. Yeah. I thought it was more impressive if we didn't say they were friends. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:02:16 Because then it's just like. I think it's impressive that they're friends. It is. To maintain a friendship with a celebrity is not easy. That's very hard. It's hard work. Yeah, they get busy. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:25 Anyway, if you can't tell, we love Never Not Funny here at Conan, and I really think that you will, too. Yes. If you haven't checked it out, what the hell have you been doing with your free time? Or sit on your ass and listen to a podcast. And he's got a wonderful producer, Matt Belknap. They're great together. Yeah. Matt has a beautiful, mellifluous voice.
Starting point is 00:02:44 I could listen to it forever. Not like us. So yeah, we know. Starting a new podcast is a big commitment and you've already got us in your queue, but we think this is the perfect time for you to check out Never Not Funny because starting this week
Starting point is 00:02:59 he's actually launching a short form game show spinoff right in the Never Not Funny feed. Yeah, and Jimmy, like as part of his stand-up act for years, will like at UCB a lot of nights he'll host game shows. And he's hilarious at it. He's great. Yeah, it's second nature for him. So this podcast, he was saying it's kind of this game show is almost like a distillation of his longer podcast.
Starting point is 00:03:25 It's like intense Jimmy Pardo in 30 minutes. So it sounds great. You've got 30 minutes. Yes. We should tell you what the podcast is called. It is called Playing Games with Jimmy Pardo. And each half hour episode features a celebrity co-host to help Jimmy pit three call-in contestants against each other in a pop culture trivia battle royale. This week his co-host is the hilarious Jamila Jamil from The Good Place.
Starting point is 00:03:49 Oh, I'd love to hear those two together. I know. I think that's great. And again, never not funny, if you haven't dove into that, there's a thousand episodes, so that should keep you busy for quite a while. Yeah, that should keep you busy. So you have your plans for the next six years if you listen to them back to back.
Starting point is 00:04:06 If you end up in prison or something. Anyway, we've got a clip of Jamila's episode and we'll play that in a second. But just make sure to look up Never Not Funny in your podcast app and hit subscribe now while you're thinking about it because they have some amazing guests coming up like, oh, Sweeney, you already blew this one.
Starting point is 00:04:26 Oh, no. Jon Hamm. I didn't know he was coming on again. They really are friends. They are friends. And Sarah Silverman. And Sarah Silverman. I think he's also friends with her.
Starting point is 00:04:33 He is. And us. Sure. Anyway, let's roll that clip. Okay. Playing games. With Jimmy Carter. Playing games. Quincy Jones was there. He asked me if I had a sister but not one that say you too yeah he's amazing I've got a grandmother yeah yeah I saw that picture of you with him were you guys
Starting point is 00:04:57 it looked like you guys were dancing we were kind of dancing okay it's really fun he's really got like he's still full of beans I think he actually is now like 85 he's full of dancing. He's really fun. He's really got like, he's still full of beans. I think he actually is now like 85. He's full of energy and just like getting up on his feet, walking around. I should tell you that here in the States, by the way, full of beans means that you're full of shit. Oh, right. For a minute, I thought you were going to say jizz. That's not how I use it.
Starting point is 00:05:20 That's weird. I say that to my kids all the time. When they're excited, when they're bouncing off the walls, I say, you're full of beans. I thought, you're full of beans. Yeah. Huh. I thought you were going to say it was like a flatulence thing, but I know you would have said that.
Starting point is 00:05:31 I don't go that route. No, no. He doesn't like that at all. We learned that last time. Not into my poo humor whatsoever. Well, we don't need to do it again. We don't need to go down that path again. Sorry for taking it back.
Starting point is 00:05:40 No, but it was this amazing night and everyone made these incredible speeches and I just felt great. I feel very strong. Did you get up up and speak i did not get up and speak i can't believe i was invited i'm not even sure if i was invited or if they thought i was priyanka shopra which i'm still fine with and would like happily put on her accent to be able to get ahead in this industry um i uh was allowed past security somehow and just sat there staring at everyone i had had to be asked to literally be asked by my publicist to stop staring. And she was like, please stop pointing. So I think I still need to learn some basic manners before I go to one of those again. Here we go.
Starting point is 00:06:21 Name one of the two artists who had posthumous number one hits in the 1970s. Number one hit after they died. Posthumous, but it was in the 1970s, so they would have had to already be dead. Elvis? Elvis. In the 1983 film Risky Business, what kind of car accidentally ends up submerged in Lake Michigan? A Ferrari? I don't know. In 2004, do you want to take a guess? Any country? Israel?
Starting point is 00:07:02 In 2004, this iconic painting by Edvard Munch was stolen from a museum in Norway. True or false? Is that the question? No, it is not. No? We're looking for the name of the painting. Ah, the Mona Lisa. In 2012, this film became the first silent movie to win the Academy Award for Best Picture since 1927.
Starting point is 00:07:20 The Artist. Alright, we've got Jamila's answers. Now let's get Brian out of the isolation booth. I feel really good about the Mona Lisa answer. Playing games. Playing games.
