Hi, this is Mark Malkoff. You may know me from the Carson podcast, my long-running in-depth podcast about late-night legend Johnny Carson and his Tonight Show. Over the years, I've been asked numerous times if I would ever do a podcast about other late-night shows. Well, I've partnered with late-nighter.com to explore them all past and present. Welcome to my new podcast, Inside Late Night with Mark Malkoff. I'm excited to bring the same meticulous.
research and curiosity to the whole world of the late night.
Like with the Carson podcast, I will not only talk to people who are guests on these shows,
but also will have interviews with cast members, staff and crew, writers, and talent coordinators
sharing their stories and insight behind the scenes.
My goal is to uncover the never-before-told stories.
I'll talk to late-night powerhouses such as Robert Smigel.
You know, Conan and I were given this opportunity to create
this playground and do the silliest stuff we ever dreamed of doing that would never work on
SNL.
Rachel Dratch.
You know, I put stuff up the table at SNL that was, like, been killed at Second City,
and it couldn't even get on the show.
Rob Cordry?
My first interview with David Letterman was terrifying.
Like, I've never been terrified for a light night appearance before.
And those are stressful, man.
And Spike Ferris Day.
Well, I benefited from a lot of really good advice.
You know, it was at a time where I could pick up the phone and call John Stewart
or pick up the phone and call Jay Leno and call Jerry and comedian friend.
We will continue to delve deep into Johnny Carson,
explore the innovativeness of Letterman,
the American Institution, which is Saturday Night Live,
and Masters of Talk such as Dick Cavett and Jack Park.
Please join me on what I hope will be an epic journey into the world.
world of late night television.
