From late-nighter.com, it's late night last night with John Schneider.
And now, here's John.
Hello, everybody, and happy Friday, and welcome to Late Night Last Night here on this October 17th
to talk about everything we saw in late night this week on the week of October 13th through 16th.
And we are on the air just once this week because we only have two shows that we regularly cover that we're on this week.
So that's Jimmy Kim Alive and the late show with Stephen Colbert.
So no Fallon, no Seth, no daily show this week.
They will all be returning next week.
So very excited to get into everything that we saw this week on late night, starting with Colbert, who is back after a week away.
He was traveling overseas and he's going to return on Monday and talk to us about his trip.
what it was like being away from everything happening in the U.S.
Turns out they talk about us over there, too.
It's like going over to the neighbor's house to avoid the dysfunctional family dynamics.
Over there, you can still hear the screaming.
Yeah, you can still hear it.
Everything is still happening over here.
You could hear it over there.
So great to have Stephen Colbert back.
One of the main topics that he's going to talk about all week long, him and Kimmel,
is the ceasefire in the Middle East.
happening and how you know, Trump helped negotiate that ceasefire. And I thought there was a very
fascinating moment on both shows who both of these hosts had clearly had some problems with
Trump lately, maybe always, but you know, it's been in the media more lately. And I thought it was
fascinating to see them both praise Trump for his role in negotiating a ceasefire this week. So
here is Colbert addressing that on Monday. Important credit where credit is due. Donald Trump
did something good.
Are we still canceled?
You sure?
Hi, I think you are, Stephen.
But yeah, that was a really nice moment.
Kimmel also would say the same thing.
He's going to end up drinking a glass of bourbon, Stephen,
because members of the Environmental Protection Agency are out of work,
and he doesn't want to drink water.
And the government shut down continuing this week
will be something that Kimmel and Colbert will talk about all week long.
The guests on Colbert on Monday, we got Alex Winter and Kiana Reeves.
So Bill and Ted are there and they're promoting their waiting for Godot play.
That they do eight shows a week.
And it's great to get the team up of Alex, Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves on Colbert on Monday.
Over at Kimmel on Monday, we got 75-year-old Bill Murray, who was there to talk about being 75,
the Cubs losing recently, seeing them in Tokyo early this year, some stories about the 85 Bears.
And if you're an SNL fan, this is a fun interview because he talked.
about how when he got S&L back in 1977, how he helped his mom with a credit card and giving
it to her and what that meant for like his family to have some more money.
So I thought that that was a really fun interview from Bill Murray, who actually between
commercials played tambourine with Clito and the Cletones.
You may remember if you saw Bill Murray on Fallon that he recently sat in with the roots
and he was a musical guest.
So like him with music with late night pretty common lately.
and I would say that it's something that is really cool
whenever Bill Murray does a late-night show
to get to see him jamming out with the audience
and playing with the house band.
Kat Dennings is also a guest on Monday on Kimmel
and they show a nice video of her as a kid
and promoting a Tim Allen movie shifting gears.
So good stuff over there.
On Tuesday, Kimmel's going to have Naomi Watts,
who is talking about getting a star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame
and promoting her show All's Fair.
Oliver Jeffers is the other guest on Kimmel
who talks about his new children,
book. And this was a nice interview because Kimmel's written a children's book and really
admires Oliver Jeffers. But I really feel like the interview of the week potentially is
Bet Midler on Colbert on Tuesday night, who did a fantastic job. She's going to walk out with a
diploma. And I'm going to play this in parts, but this was a great interview from Bet Midler.
How much for being here? Did you bring your diploma? I did. I did. Well, it's not my diploma.
It's yours. I want to beg you, don't go. Don't go. Don't go.
Don't go. I'm here.
God, I'm here till May before I returned to...
I know, but I'm not coming back.
Oh, okay.
No, I might.
I worked this up for you because I wanted to thank you personally and publicly
for all you did for me for these last nine and a half years.
Now, this is interesting because Bent Midler, I can't tell if she's been an official guest.
Like, I don't see her listed anywhere and I've gone back.
I mean, obviously, there's a great relationship there between Bet Midler and Stephen Colbert,
but I just thought it was fascinating to get to see how much Bet Midler
admires Colbert, and clearly they spoke about their relationship in the pre-show and
Bet Midler's relationship to late-night TV, but they're going to go on to talk about how
Bett Midler was also there to serenade and say goodbye to Johnny Carson.
So here, watch this.
I would not, and I mean this from the bottom of my heart, I would not, I'm going to cry,
I would not have made it through without you.
I really wouldn't have.
You're a voice of sanity and.
reason and honesty and most important honor honor that's nice and you say occasionally funny
I hope too oh no no no wait that goes without saying that goes without saying I mean you're hilarious
but it's it's all this other stuff mixed in with it which is so rare nowadays anyway so I
so lots of compliments and then now we're going to get to the part where there's the Carson thing
which is a little something for you and and and I feel you're a national no well it's a kind of a
proclamation. You know, I have
a long reputation for
singing certain talk show
hosts off the air.
No, I know that I actually was going to
I was going to show everybody this is like, this is
you famously with Johnny back at the end of his
run. Not that I'm, I would never
compare myself to Johnny.
No, no, no, please. Please. But that's, yeah,
I know you. Of course, certainly. And then
she's going to say how
she also sung Krusty the clown off the air
on The Simpsons. And
it was just a really great interview.
If you want to go back and listen to the whole song that she sings for Colbert, my favorite part of late night this week.
That won't be the only great interview on Colbert, though.
Tim Meadows is there to talk about his new show, DMV, which is airing now on CBS.
And Tim Meadows is going to talk to Colbert about the new show and then starts to tell the story about his cat.
And if you watch the extended interview on YouTube, we get this great behind the scenes meta moment where Tim Meadows is going to get interrupted by Colbert, who wants to know, like,
If we have time for this.
So this is a great moment here.
I found this cat.
My sister, she was hiding out in a carpet,
rolled up carpet in my sister's porch in Detroit.
I'm just a second.
Is this a good story?
No, not really.
Thanks so much for stopping by.
Because they're telling me to rap over there.
What?
There's a little rap side over there.
And I'm like, I got to make sure,
is this worth going along with the story?
Well, where would you cut this interview?
So they're going to talk about the whole thing
of like, do we continue with the story?
Where does the interview stop or not?
And Tim Meadows has such a great reaction to all this.
What?
Before you air it, where were you cut?
Were you cut after the David Byrne applause?
I just want to know how is this going to.
No, everything up until now would be in.
But then I realized I just started the cat story.
And I looked up and it said rap.
And I went, if this is a good story, then that creates.
it's a headache for my editor and the producer over there.
Right.
But if it's not a good story, we're good enough friends that I can just cut you off.
And we could do the story again if you ever come back because the show is over soon.
Or I can come on your show.
You know, you be a great host of this show.
No, no.
Yeah, it was a really funny moment.
And then they're going to end up telling a little bit of the story afterwards.
They're going to, like, take it back and go and tell it.
But the fact that they put up the whole clip on YouTube was great from Tim Meadows.
The other big thing on Tuesday was that the Time Magazine photo of Trump was released,
and Kimmel and Colbert are going to have a field day with that.
I thought that maybe the joke of the week was in Kimmel's monologue on Tuesday,
where he's going to talk about Trump's neck a little bit.
Or is it the turkey vagina slapping around over my joke?
I'm not sure even allowed to show his neck on TV.
Wouldn't it be funny if the FCC find us for showing his neck on TV?
Yeah, it's possible.
You never know.
But yeah, I thought that was a great joke there.
From Kimmel on Wednesday, we're going to have Chris O'Donnell on Kimmel, who's there to promote 911 Nashville.
He's also going to do more Show Me Your Hellhole videos.
Those are the videos that he solicited from the audience to show what's happening in their hometowns
as people continue to raid major cities around the United States, and they're going to show
like mascots walking around and restaurants and things like that.
Chris O'Donnell is there to promote 911.
Nashville. He's also going to have a guest that night where Trixie Mattel, the drag queen,
is going to be there to read Eric Trump's new book to kids. But it was really good.
There was a really good second guest on there, Jackie Tone from Nobody Wants This,
who talks about having notes in her phone for a long time with potential late night stories
because she's always wish she could be on a late night show and her Hollywood themed but
mitzvah. So this was a really good interview there. On Colbert on Wednesday,
he's going to talk about the Pentagon's new rules for journalists and how all major
media outlets have declined to sign them.
Anderson Cooper will join that conversation and talk about the Middle East Peace Accords,
as well as this new podcast, all there is.
So Anderson Cooper, one of the most frequent guests on Colbert, I believe this is his 20th
official time on Colbert.
So truly great to have Anderson back there.
Mason Thames is also a first-time late-night show guest on Colbert, and he's going to talk
about The Thing with Stephen, who they both seem to really, really like.
So on Thursday, what we saw last night, on late night, it is National Bosses Day.
So Colbert is going to open the show.
And of course, you know about Colbert's relationship with his bosses.
So here's a great moment from Colbert in his monologue last night.
As you know, today is National Boss's Day.
I hope you all treated your boss to their favorite gift, two minutes of awkward chit-chat
until the elevator arrives.
Remember to say your kid's name so they don't have to.
And I want to take a moment to celebrate my new boss, Paramount CEO, David Ellison.
Mr. Ellison, I love you.
Better to buy us a couple more months.
There you go.
Will it buy him a couple more months?
We shall see.
We'll cover it over here.
So Nick Offerman is the main guest on Colbert last night.
He's going to join Stephen for the segment Community Calendar that he does.
Once every few months, last time was with John Sina.
June, and they're going to talk about what's happening in the community of Manuka, Illinois.
Offerman is there to promote his new book, Little Woodchucks, and talks.
It tells a great story about, you know, being inspired by working on Parks and Rec and
producing the book.
So that's a good interview if you're a fan of Nick Offerman.
He's going to stick around to eat some Philly cheese steaks that were made by Stephen
and Jose Andres, who is there to cook with Stephen at the end of the show.
Over at Kimmel last night, we have Maya Rudolph, who is there to talk about the new season of Lute and loving Madonna and Henry Winkler cameo in Lute.
So always fantastic to hear from Maya.
And then Roy Wood Jr. is the second guest on Kimmel last night.
He says he's glad that Kimmel's here because he thought he was in prison, which he's not.
He's going to talk about his new book, The Man of Many Fathers.
And Roy tells a lot of great stories, including having a cameo on the judge show Hot Ben.
Roy is hilarious, as always.
And if you like hearing from Roy, you're going to love getting to hear more of him when he is
an upcoming guest on Inside Late Night with Mark Malkoff.
That'll be out in just a couple of weeks.
But overall, this week on late night, just two shows on the air.
We got Kimmel and we got Colbert.
And to me, the biggest moment of the week was Bet Miller's interview on Colbert.
I thought that she was fantastic.
And if you're a fan of her, so great to get to hear her sing on the show and sing and serenade Stephen
Colbert, that was a great moment.
But between that and Bill Murray, Nick Offerman, Meyer Rudolph, Anderson Cooper, like a lot of fantastic guests this week on late night.
It was a fun week to get to cover with only just two shows on the air.
Late night's going to get busier, though, next week.
We do have Jimmy Kimmel off the air, but the rest of the shows do return.
So, of course, I will be back on more of our daily schedule to talk about everything that we see next week in late night, starting with Tuesday, where we will talk about the Monday shows.
As mentioned, Inside Late Night with Mark Malkoff is our interview podcast over here.
on Late Nighter. It is a fantastic interview podcast that Mark has been doing with all sorts of guests
throughout the late night industry. And this week, he spoke to Liz Winstead, who helped work
and produce the John Stewart Show and then co-created the Daily Show. So if you're a fan of the
daily show, that is a can't miss interview with Mark Malkoff. Right now out on our feed, of course,

we're Bill Carter will have some interviews with some prominent people in late night.
So really excited to see what we're going to have in late night next week when I'm back on Tuesday.

over here as we get our feet under us for late night.
last night. So appreciate it and hope you continue to comment and let us know how we can make
