Starting point is 00:00:00 From late-nighter.com, it's late night last night with John Schneider. And now here's John. Welcome everybody to late night last night here on this Wednesday, looking back at everything that happened in Late Night TV on Tuesday, October 7th. My name is John Schneider from Late Nighter. Very excited to be with you to talk about the four shows that were on the air last night. And those were on NBC, the Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, late night with Seth Myers.
Starting point is 00:00:34 On ABC, we had Jimmy Kim alive. And then on Comedy Central, we had the Daily Show. So let's talk about Fallon's show. First, he has had an incredible week. We talked yesterday about Taylor Swift appearing on the show and how big of a deal that was for her to go through everything from her new album, The Life of a Showgirl. And he's going to talk in the top of his monologue
Starting point is 00:00:54 about the week that he has had so far. What a week it's been so far. Taylor Swift here yesterday. J-Lo and K-pop Demon Hunters today. Maybe tomorrow will be the day people are here to see me. Maybe Jimmy, it's possible. We'll see. We'll talk about that one tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:01:17 But, yeah, certainly a huge week for Fallon. Tonight, as he said, he has Jennifer Lopez and Huntrix from K-pop Demon Hunters on there. So we have the actual musical performers on the show. He's going to do his monologue. He's going to play News and Improved, which is always a fun game, looking at news articles and then saying what the articles really should be called. Jennifer Lopez is going to make her lead appearance on the show. She is there for the 17th time.
Starting point is 00:01:43 That's like about top 15, top 20 all time on Jimmy's show. First since February of 2024, she's promoting her musical film, Kiss of the Spider-Woman. And they just have such a great conversation. She talks about her up all night tour, and you may have seen this crazy video of a cricket crawling up. Lopez's neck while she was performing. So she addresses that and talks about how that felt. She's going to address the polarizing decision, I would say, to have Bad Bunny host the halftime show, I guess polarizing for some people. And she actually says, which I think a lot of
Starting point is 00:02:14 people forgot that Bad Bunny participated in her halftime show. So he has a ton of experience being there and is going to crush it. And I would agree with J-Lo that Bad Bunny is going to do a fantastic job. They play one of my favorite games on Fallon that he does, which is the singing whisper challenge. And that's where one of them wears headphones as they're listening to loud music and the other person tries to whisper, or I guess like sound canceling headphones, and they try to whisper
Starting point is 00:02:38 the song and they guess what it is. And it's very funny with Jennifer Lopez and Jimmy Fallon. And then we get to the thing that I think most people were excited to see on Fallon last night, which is Huntrix, the three women who appear on the show there. And it was just very cool to see them after appearing
Starting point is 00:02:54 on Saturday Night Live this past week to appear in a sketch. And they're going to talk about what it was like to be on SNL. Did you ever think you would do Saturday Night Live? No, that's crazy. It's so insane. Yeah, it's wild. Literally dream true, I think.
Starting point is 00:03:09 The 10-year-old in me just came to life, being on set. Like Audrey said, it kind of reminded us of being, like, in theater camp. Yeah, I did. Yeah. Because it is live theater, basically. Literally. Yeah, it was really cool. It was one of the biggest moments of the SNL season 51 premiere
Starting point is 00:03:25 and then to have them come on to Fallon and talk about it was also a nice, moment. They will perform Golden, the biggest song of the year, my biggest song of the summer. So that was a really fun performance. But before we get there, they also have provided a Huntrix merch merch for the Fallon audience, which I'm sure everybody was very happy about. And then Jimmy has a big surprise for them. He's actually going to present them with their platinum record for Golden. So there's a great moment there. It's probably the moment of the night on late night where he's going to present that platinum record and they're a surprise for them singing golden. So that is a great thing. And
Starting point is 00:04:00 back-to-back, really solid nights for Fallon. Sticking with NBC, we got no closer look because it is Tuesday on Seth. So he's going to do a late-night White House press briefing. This is the first time he's doing this since July, where he asks questions to the press secretary, Caroline Levitt, and she responds by them playing clips of things she has said over the months. And it's a very funny thing that they do sometimes on set. He has three guests for the night. First, he's going to talk to Channing Tatum, who's promoting Roof Man. Kirsten Dunst was
Starting point is 00:04:30 on the night prior promoting the film. He talks a lot about getting how he got into the role and learning from the people who the movie was based on. He's going to talk about his daughter dressing up as a member of Blackpink for Halloween and going to Renaissance fairs and escape rooms with her. So it's a nice moment for Channing to talk with Seth
Starting point is 00:04:48 about their kids. Megan Maroney country superstar is appearing on Seth for the first time, talks about becoming a country singer, how she opened up for Chase Rice and convinced her parents that she shouldn't continue to pursue to be an accountant. So that was a nice conversation there from Megan Maroni, who has some really solid music. If you're a country music man, I feel like you should definitely check that out. And then we get a nice cooking segment with Jean-George von Gerichton, who is appearing for the second time on Seth Myers. The first since 2020, so it's been a while, and then we get to see Seth cooking.
Starting point is 00:05:19 He makes some shrimp and squash while sipping cucumber mint martinis. I always like it when we get a different type of performer on these late night shows. And the cooking segments used to be obviously extremely popular cooking, bartending. We don't get them as much on these shows. And I always think that it's kind of fun to see the late night hosts get out of their routine and make something with one of the guests here. So that was really great. Over at ABC, let's talk about what happened on Kimmel's show last night.
Starting point is 00:05:45 He's going to open up with his monologue talking about there being no air traffic controllers at Burbank. as part of the shutdown, even though they're required to be there. I'm pretty surprised that he was the only show to cover that last night. I think that that's something that we may see more of in some of the shows tonight. I do wonder if Colbert was on the air, if he would have touched on that as well. But I thought that was something that was, like, unique to Kimmel. Talks about Trump's meeting with Mark Carney. And then he does a pretty scathing segment where Trump claims that he never wrote the letter
Starting point is 00:06:13 to Epstein because it's not the language that he tends to use. And Kimmel actually shows all of the times he's used them. language and just you know showing the hypocrisy is not something that is so uncommon on the late night shows but i thought this particular segment the way that they did it the music it was very dark and uh the transitions from shot to shot were like dairy like okay we're making a point here and i think they really went after him last night so it's a it's a skating segment that i recommend that you go check out jeff bridges is the main host on kimmel last night uh the main guest on kimmel he's there for the 11th time he's promoting tron aries and uh he has a nice
Starting point is 00:06:49 moment with Kimmel when he shows up for his interview. Good to be here. You're back, man. Oh, thanks. Yeah, it's a really relaxed interview. And again, I still like that we're still talking about everything that happened with Kimmel, not ignoring it completely saying you're back, you know, the people have spoken. He's going to talk about a garment that he's made for himself and his career. And then he talks about how we don't get to see it. They don't show a picture of it. But apparently Jeff Bridges brought his own recliner chair backstage to relax on prior to the interview. So I'll talk about that.
Starting point is 00:07:20 He also summons his The Dude Character to give some advice about things that are happening in the world. So, yeah, I've actually, I'm always been a fan of Jeff Bridges. So it's really funny to get to see him there on Kimmel. I thought they had a great interview with each other. Justine Loop from Nobody Wants This in Succession was on as well. She is the second guest on Kimmel. She's going to talk about her Hall Pass, which actually happens to be Jeff Bridges. So Kimmel says to her, did you get a chance to meet Jeff Bridges?
Starting point is 00:07:46 And she's like, I cannot meet Jeff Bridges. him and Benicio del Toro are my hall passes so I can't meet them so I thought that was a very funny moment connecting the guests together and it's interesting being backstage and imagining that they don't bump into each other at any point she talks a lot about like it gets a little raunchy when she talks about her dress that she were to the Emmys and how it was very revealing so then she needed like her stylist to tape her butt cheeks together and it talks a lot about that with Kimmel so that's the majority of the interview we get Christian McBride's big band performing with Jeffrey Osborne, they perform back in love again.
Starting point is 00:08:20 There's some really good music there if you like that type of thing. So I thought that Kimmel's night was very solid as well. Over at the Daily Show, Josh Johnson is hosting for the first of three nights this week, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. It does a great job talking about Trump mentioning that he wants to build a road in Alaska and how Trump said that he wants to go to heaven and how this seems to be like a new thing. And again, an interesting point, a Daily Show, bringing this up, I haven't seen any other late and I chose to address this, so I'm curious if they'll follow suit after this.
Starting point is 00:08:50 But it's a lot of talk about Trump saying how he wants to get into heaven. And Josh has a great rant about this. And then they end up going to correspondent Troy Awada to see what heaven is really like. And he's talking about how heaven, you know, you can't get there if you eat shrimp. But it's a good bit. He's also going to talk about Pam Bondi being asked about the Epstein files and Trump seemingly forgetting who Belaine Maxwell is. So Josh did a fantastic job. And he's gotten some great reviews for hosting the Daily,
Starting point is 00:09:17 show the last few times that he's done it and continues to crush it over there. His guest for the night is Wawa Githero, who is talking about the black girl environmentalist group and how to help diversify climate work and building a pipeline for black women to participate in helping the environment. So a really nice conversation there between the two of them. We're also going to get an appearance from Michael Costa, who does the thank me later segment, and he's going to speak to a Florida's Python huntress. It goes on the road with her to search for pythons.
Starting point is 00:09:47 So a pretty funny moment there from Costa on the show. But overall, last night on late night, I think that the major story was Huntricks appearing on Fallon. He continues to get some huge guests to start off the new season of his show with Taylor Swift and then Huntricks back to back. So I think that was a really big moment there. And clearly for all the people who are, you know, all the kids who maybe don't stay up for late night.
Starting point is 00:10:09 Maybe we'll tune in and check out these interviews online to get to see more and hear more about K-pop Demon Hunters. Not to say that Jennifer Lopez wasn't fantastic as well. there, but it was a really, really fun night last night in late night. The big story for tonight is the takeover of Taylor Swift on late night with Seth Myers. I'm so curious how that's going to work. Is she going to be all over the show? Is she going to participate in a closer look? What is late night with Seth Myers going to look like tonight when Taylor Swift joins the show? Is she going to be there for the entire episode? Like, those are things I cannot wait to see.
Starting point is 00:10:42 She's reportedly the only guest on the show tonight. So I think that's something that we will definitely lead off with. Jared Leto is going to be the main guest on Fallon tonight. Kimmel's got Tim Allen as well. And then looking forward to seeing what Josh Johnson has is cooking up for the daily show for tonight. So another great night in late night talking about the things that happened last night. I'm very excited to be back with you tomorrow to talk about everything that happens on this Wednesday, October 8th. In case you missed it, we have another great interview over on our inside late night podcasts where Mark Malkoff spoke to John Glazer this week.
