Starting point is 00:00:00 From late-nighter.com, it's late night last night with John Schneider. And now, here's John. Hello, everybody, and welcome to late night last night here on this Friday, October 10th, to talk about everything we saw last night on a late night on October 9th, and it was another busy day around the late night universe. So let's talk about what we saw with the four shows on the air. And we will start over at Fallon, where he had a great monologue about Trump wanting to win the Nobel Peace Prize. So that was a big topic across late night as the recent Middle East deal was negotiated. We also had him talking about the season premiere of Grey's Anatomy and a big back and forth with Tariq about that.
Starting point is 00:00:50 But I think maybe the biggest moment in late night last night was a surprise appearance during the monologue that is, S&L-related, so I'll play you a rather long clip, but we'll go through it with Fallon getting a cameo in the monologue. Finally, a Dutch man just broke a record for the fastest marathon ever run by wearing crocs. Wow! Oh, I think I... So he's going to tell this joke about the Dutch marathon. He's going to fall to the ground, and he's going to pretend to be hurt. My ankle. Oh, yeah. This is real, guys. Oh, yeah. Jimmy, are you okay?
Starting point is 00:01:28 And out of the curtain comes Amy Poehler, who is hosting Saturday Night Live tomorrow night. Everyone is very excited about it. So what will Amy say to- Amy Poehler? Wait, what? Oh, my. Amy Poehler! Oh, Amy.
Starting point is 00:01:47 Amy. Amy. So obviously the crowd's going wild for a lot of things. Amy. Hey. Wait. Stop. Stop with the applause.
Starting point is 00:01:59 Stop with the applause and I'm hurt over here. Are you all right? Amy, Polar, hold on. You just let everyone know, let everyone know that you're hosting Saturday Night Live this weekend. You're hosting this weekend with musical guest, Role Model. And they don't typically do this.
Starting point is 00:02:21 Like, it's not like it's something that happens everywhere where the us and all host comes out, but obviously Amy was in a cast with Jimmy Fallon once upon a time. So I think it is kind of a fun. reunion she's been on the tonight show so many times uh here we go let them all know it's this saturday and go on and host and host a great show oh thank you jimmy thank you so much wait wait wait wait wait what are you what are you doing so she walks over to the couch next to the desk i mean jimmy's still in front of the curtain doing a monologue she's going to walk over to the couch over
Starting point is 00:02:52 there and she's going to i'm taking this cushion because taylor swift sat on it thank you No, Amy Powell, no, come out. Have a great show. Yes, this is Taylor switches on the show on Monday, so a great look back at the week with Amy stealing the couch cushion that Taylor sat on. I thought that was a great moment for the night. Channing Tatum is the main guest on the Tonight Show last night. He's there for the 10th time.
Starting point is 00:03:15 He was actually on set on Tuesday, so he did both NBC shows this week. He talks about being in the new Avengers movie, just a little bit, whatever he could talk about, and Roof Man, which we talked a lot this week about when he was on set. He's going to talk about, again, what Ruthman is based on, the person who is in prison, that he's impersonating, and then he's going to talk about how backstage before the interview, he actually got a call from prison about the interview
Starting point is 00:03:43 from the person that he's impersonating in the movie. And I thought that this was a really fascinating moment where he says to Jimmy that at the prison, they actually watched this night show. To see the movies, but his sister's got to see the movie. and one thing that we did talk about while we had all these conversations was that they watched your show
Starting point is 00:04:00 they don't get a lot of things in there but they watch your show and he's like if you ever do Fowlin before like you know where after the movie comes out can you give us a shout out? Can I give them a shout out? Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:04:12 Central Prison, Raleigh, North Carolina, 3G. What's up? 3G! Come on! Shout out. Thank you for you. Yeah, very, very cool for them to shout out to the prison that watched this night show every night. That was a good moment. He's going to play 30 seconds to one of the games where they
Starting point is 00:04:29 try and do as many challenges as possible and complete them in 30 seconds. The last time that Jimmy did this was with David Porn Sweat in July. Greta Lee is going to be the second guest on Fallon. It's her first time on the show. The last time was on Seth in 2023 that she was on a late night show. She was recently on the cover of Vogue and is going to be in Tron areas, which was one of the biggest movies that being promoted across late night this past week. She's going to teach Jimmy how to run like Tom Cruise and they have some fun back and forth. We're going to get a third set of guess here where we're going to have Boone Hogg and Logan Juggler, the stick review guys on Instagram.
Starting point is 00:05:03 You may know them that they have like millions of followers on Instagram and they're going to review a stick that Jimmy found and they're going to talk about their new book, Sticks, and they end up knighting him into Stick Nation. So it's a fun little end of the week interview there that's a little less, you know, mainstream, but still really cool. Queens of the Stone Age is going to perform music on the show. They perform Running Joke and Paper Machete. And I just want to say that there's a really cool angle of this performance that I thought was really interesting if you go back and watch it not using just the musical guest stage.
Starting point is 00:05:36 And John Theodore, the drummer for Queens of the Stone Age, first appearance on Fallon, but has been on Seth's show 28 times when they had a band and they had guest drummers. John Theodore is the number one guest, the most appeared guest on Seth Myers show makes his first appearance on Fallon. So I thought that was a very fun, unique late night stat that we had last night. Let's talk about Seth's show where he's going to do a closer look for the end of the week and welcome Ryan Reynolds to the program, who's there to promote the John Candy documentary.
Starting point is 00:06:06 You may remember he did that on Kimmel just a couple of weeks back. He talks about always loving late night and how he remembers, you know, Carson and all of the late night shows. And it's always really interesting to me when I hear a celebrity talk about just like loving late night as a whole. I thought it was a great start to the interview. You're going to talk about getting the order of Canada and making a documentary and interviewing Dan Aykroy and Delmarie. Tell some of the similar stories that he told on Kimmel. But yeah, just great, some great stuff there. And obviously, Seth is a late night aficionado and loves John Candy and SCCV and
Starting point is 00:06:37 sketch. So I think it's just really a good interview with Ryan and Seth. Amelia Jones is the second guest. It's her first time on Seth. She was on Fallon back in 2022. Talks about her HBO miniseries task and taking some pictures with some puppies backstage. Over at Kimmel on ABC, he's going to do his monologue on Trump having a physical today and then wanting to get the Nobel Peace Prize as well. You're going to do a follow up to a story we talked about yesterday, which is that in his monologue yesterday, or two days ago, he did a hashtag, show me your hellhole where he wanted to get Democrat run cities to show how bad things have gotten to justify why Trump is sending the troops into those cities. And this time we got to.
Starting point is 00:07:18 some of the videos sent in by viewers of Kimmel Show, who are showing just how bad Portland has got, where they're showing the streets in the parks where people are knitting and things like that. Then he's going to speak to Jimmy Kibble, who is a, I believe, a wide receiver who plays for Georgetown University, and they're going to show some highlights of him, and he's going to talk to him. And this is the real guy, and he's going to talk about what it was like the last couple of weeks with Jimmy Kimmel being so much in the news.
Starting point is 00:07:45 But Jimmy Kibble is his name. and then he offers to fill in for Kimmel if he's ever sick on his show. So I think that was a really funny moment there at the start of Kimmel. Caitlin Olson's going to be the main guest. She's there for the fifth time. You may know her from It's Always Sunny and High Potential. And she's going to start the interview talking about how happy she is to see Kimmel back. Good to see you.
Starting point is 00:08:05 It's so good to see you. I'm very glad that you're back. Oh, thank you. Thank you. I'm glad to be back. Listen, that was a very challenging few days for me. So, you know, I'm glad. I love you.
Starting point is 00:08:17 and I love your whole incredible crew and I also love Dana Walden and she's been my employer for about 17 decades, right? Yeah, that's right. And you were both put in terrible, uncomfortable position and it's not fair and I'm happy. I appreciate that.
Starting point is 00:08:31 It's good to see you. Yeah, so still a very nice moment there with Caitlin and Kimmel. Yeah, just love getting to hear them talk about what it was really like, especially on the show and the thoughts and feelings of Kimmel being off there and then back on the air. Now we got Adam Polly as the second guest.
Starting point is 00:08:46 It's his fifth time on the show, as well, but it's first since 2017, and they're going to show a clip of him coming in in a bubble the last time that he was there. And they joke about that. He's promoting his stand-up comedy rock documentary and intimate evening with Adam Polly. So there's a fun conversation. Lucy Dacus is going to be the musical guest on Kimmel last night. Over at the daily show, Josh Johnson is hosting for the third and final night of the week. He's going to give Trump actually some props. It's a great turn in it, you know, where everyone else is sort of, you know, I guess like ripping Trump all week. for various things. Josh Johnson is going to actually give props to Trump for brokering a deal in the Middle East. I thought it was very interesting the way he started that. He has a great joke, and he says that the guy who couldn't stop a fight
Starting point is 00:09:29 between Gary Busey and Meatloaf actually brokered peace in the Middle East. And then he's going to talk about Trump going in about Antiva. So I sort of take that turn after that and then go after him for some of the things that he said this week. But I thought it was a really, like, poignant opening for The Daily Show last night with Josh Johnson. I thought it was interesting, not that we need everybody to always, you know, lean one way or another way, whatever it is,
Starting point is 00:09:49 but I just thought it was different from what I've seen over the last few weeks, and Josh did a great job. There, Hunter Prosper is his guest. He's an ICU nurse and a content creator. He wrote a book, Stories from a Stranger, and they have a very nice conversation. And then Grace Cool and Schmidt, one of the correspondents of the Daily Show, has her own segments there, and she's going to do some tech talk and talk about the latest stories that are happening in tech,
Starting point is 00:10:08 including OpenAI, releasing SORA 2, which is this new program that you can create AI videos, talk about Tilly Norwood, the celebrity that is a not real celebrity. It's a AI actress that everyone cannot stop talking about. And it's a really funny commentary from Grace Bull and Schmidt. So great night across late night to end the week. Really, I enjoyed probably the most seeing Amy Poehler come out to talk to Jimmy Fallon, just very briefly about her expectation to host Saturday Night Live tomorrow night.
Starting point is 00:10:39 And I thought that it was a great. I'm at Channing Tatum was really fun playing some games with Fallon as well. But it was a huge night and a huge week across late night, especially with the two appearances of Taylor Swift, both on Fallon and Seth Myers. Those are clearly the stories of the week and everything she did to take over NBC. So I'm really looking forward to next week on late night. It will be a quieter week at late night where we only have Kimmel and Colbert returning. So those are the two shows. The NBC shows are off next week.
Starting point is 00:11:08 I believe the Daily Show off as well. So because of that, I won't be doing a late night last night every day next week. the plan is we're going to try something new and it would love to know if you're listening along what you think when we do this next week. But I'm going to be back in a week from today next Friday to give you the late night this week and talk about the biggest moments of the week. So we still get to talk about the things that we saw in late night, but just with only two shows on the air, we don't have to do that every day next week.
Starting point is 00:11:34 And then, of course, we'll continue after that. So really looking forward to being back with you next week. We will also have a new interview with Mark Malkoff next Tuesday for his insight late night. So on behalf of everyone here at late nighter, my name is John Schneider, and we will see you next time. Have a good one.
